It has been the 957th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

Serhii Dubrov, Deputy Minister of Health, announced that in July of this year, the population of Ukraine amounted to 35.8m people. As of 1 January 2022, the population of Ukraine was 42.6m.

The Ministry of Defense is implementing NATO standards for gender equality in the Armed Forces. The corresponding program brought together Ukrainian and foreign experts, advisers on gender issues, politicians and practitioners in the field of humanitarian security. They worked on improving knowledge and skills in the field of gender integration, which will bring policies and practices of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in line with NATO standards and the UN Security Council resolution Women, Peace, Security.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The  General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the russian army is concentrating its attacks near Krutyi Yar and Selydove towards Pokrovsk. On 6 October the occupiers conducted 21 attacks in this area of the frontline.  

 russian troops also remain active towards Liman, where 18 russian attacks took place over the previous day. In particular, the occupants attacked Torske, Dibrova and Hrekivka.  

 The occupants also conducted 18 attacks towards Kurakhove. They attacked in the direction of Tsukuryno, Hirnyk and Horoshne.

Kharkiv oblast

Russia struck Zolochiv in the Kharkiv region around 16:40, likely with a KAB bomb, according to the head of the community, Viktor Kovalenko. As a result of the strike, 14 private houses, utility structures, and power lines were damaged, Kovalenko noted.

In the Kharkiv direction, the occupiers attempted to storm positions near Starytsia and Vovchansk; all attacks have been repelled as of 16:00, according to the General Staff.

Russia attacked positions in the Kupiansk direction 15 times in the areas of Synkivka, Novoselivka, Hlushkivka, Lozova, and Kruhliakivka. Five attacks were repelled, while ten engagements are ongoing.

Around 16:00, Russia shelled Kupiansk. As a result of the strike on the grounds of an educational institution, a 35-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman suffered blast injuries. They were hospitalized. Russia also struck Kurylivka, causing grass fires.

Balakliya Military Administration reported that at 9:33am, an explosive was detonated under a mechanical demining machine in Balakliya community. 

According to Vyacheslav Zadorenko, Head of the Dergachi RMA, trains on the route Kharkiv – Dergachi – Slatyno – Nova Kozacha stopped running due to damage to the track caused by russians’ nighttime attack. Перший потяг із Харкова у напрямку Дергачів і Нової Козачої вирушив о 15:10. 

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, reported that at 00:03pm, Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv was shelled. The shelling set fire to coniferous litter, branches and trees over an area of 1 hectare.

At 03:35pm on 7 October, Zolochiv of  Bohodukhiv region was shelled. A private civilian car was damaged as a result of UAV shelling.

At 03:00pm on 7 October, Mytrofanivka village of  Dvorichna community, Kupiansk region was shelled. A 73-year-old woman was injured.

At 23:37pm, Mala Danylivka village of  Kharkiv region was shelled. They hit an open area. 

At 23:15pm, Cherkaska Lozova village of Kharkiv region was shelled. One house and partially two houses were damaged. A 50-year-old man, a 51-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy were injured.

At 17:11pm, the Lipetsk forestry, Cherkaski Tyshky village of Tsyrkuny community, Kharkiv region was shelled. Forest litter and grass were burning on the area of 1.5 hectares.

At 14:25pm, Ivashky village of Zolochiv community, Bohodukhiv region was shelled. A private house, outbuildings and a power line were damaged.

At 13:25pm  Kupyansk, Kupyansk region was shelled. The roof of a private house on the area of 150 m² was burning. A 54-year-old man was injured.

At 11:20am, Pershotravneve village of Borova community, Izium region was shelled. A 57-year-old man died as a result of an FPV drone shelling a car.

At 08:30am, Kupiansk, Kupiansk region was shelled. A UAV strike injured men aged 40 and 68.

Near Starytsia and Vovchansk towards Kharkiv, russian terrorists stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops five times. Estimated enemy losses: 58 occupants killed and wounded, 14 artillery systems, 33 UAVs, 10 vehicles and three special equipment destroyed.

Towards Kupyansk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian fortifications eleven times near Kucherivka, Kruhliakivka, Vyshneve and Novoosynove. At present, fighting continues in three locations.

Ruben Brekelmans, Defence Minister of Netherlands, paid an unannounced visit to Kharkiv on 6 October. In particular, the official visited a multi-storey building damaged by a russian bombing.

Biologist Yurii Bengus and his scientist wife Liudmyla are planting acorns in Zhuravlivka forest, which was destroyed by 70% by wildfires. The forest caught fire on 16 September, covering about four hectares. The next day, while rescuers were extinguishing the fire, the russians struck the area with a guided aerial bomb.

Donetsk oblast

Around 5:00 PM, Russian forces shelled Sloviansk, reportedly using UMPB D-30SN bombs. Among the injured are a two-year-old girl, a man, and three women. At least six apartment buildings, an administrative building, a car wash, and several vehicles were damaged.

Four people were injured following a strike on an industrial facility in Kostyantynivka during the day on October 7th, according to the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The injured workers are between 41 and 61 years old. Russian forces reportedly hit the city with a KAB-250 bomb equipped with a universal planning and correction module.

In the morning, the Russian army struck Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, reported Oleksandr Honcharenko, head of the Military-Civil Administration (MCA). Russian forces hit an inactive industrial facility, and experts are working to determine the type of weaponry used.

Over the past day, Russian forces shelled populated areas in the Donetsk region 29 times, according to the Regional Military Administration (RMA). A total of 267 people were evacuated, including 29 children.

Pokrovskyi district: In Illinka, Kurakhove Territorial Community (TC), one person was killed and another injured; Kurakhove, Kurakhivka, Veselyi Hai, and Sontsivka were shelled. In the village of Shevchenko, Pokrovsk TC, one person was injured, and a house was damaged.

Kramatorsk district: In Lyman, five houses were damaged; in Torske, two houses; and in Zarichne, one house. In Mykolaivka, 17 private houses, an apartment building, an administrative building, a dormitory, and two warehouses were damaged. In Kostyantynivka, one person was killed, and two were injured. Damage was reported to 12 private houses, four apartment buildings, two administrative buildings, a store, a café, a post office, a bank, and two power lines.

Bakhmut district: In Siversk, two apartment buildings and two private houses were damaged. In Chasiv Yar, one person was killed and another injured, and nine private houses were damaged. In Toretsk, one person was injured, and a house was damaged.

As a result of Russian shelling in Illinka on Sunday, October 6th, a volunteer from the NGO “Rose on Hand,” Tigran Galustyan, was killed, the organization reported. The volunteers were en route to evacuate residents of Hirnyk, according to Roman Padun, head of the Military-Civil Administration. Russian forces struck the volunteers’ vehicle with an FPV drone, injuring another volunteer.

 

In the city of Toretsk, Donetsk region, not a single building has been left undamaged by Russian shelling, said Vasyl Chynchyk, head of Toretsk City Military Administration. Approximately 1,200 civilians remain in the community today. Most of them are sheltering in basements and other underground shelters and are reluctant to leave the area.

 

Luhansk oblast

Over the past day, the enemy deployed 42 drones in our section of the front near Zhuravka Gully. According to the Regional Military Administration (RMA), artillery shelling occurred 12 more times. The Russians attacked from several directions. Notably, Ukrainian forces near Siversk halted the enemy’s attempt to improve their tactical position near Bilohorivka. The occupiers also tried to advance in the areas of Hrekivka and Zhuravka Gully.

 

Meanwhile, the Kremlin allocated funds for designing six landfills in the so-called “LNR” territory. For three of them, the volumes of waste to be imported from Russian regions have already been determined. The complex in Rodakove will receive 350,000 cubic meters of waste annually, while the ones in Sievierodonetsk and Antratsyt will each receive 175,000 cubic meters. However, no funds from the Russian budget have been directly allocated for the construction of these facilities. The local authorities were instructed to find financing on their own. The so-called “Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the LNR” responded that they are currently seeking solutions for securing the necessary funds to continue the work.

The so-called “Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of lnr” responded that they are currently exploring ways to secure funds for further work.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said that Kyiv region was attacked by attack drones and missiles at night and in the morning. Air defence forces were deployed, enemy targets downed. There were no hits to residential and critical infrastructure, or civilian casualties. The fall of the wreckage of the downed targets was recorded in 4 districts. Three private houses, a warehouse and two cars were damaged as a result of the falling debris of downed enemy targets. The damage to the houses was minor – windows and doors were smashed. 

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration announced a meeting between the head of the RMA, Ruslan Kravchenko, and the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Natalie Tsmoc | Natalie Tsmitz. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current security situation in Kyiv oblast, the consequences of russian aggression and the results of the oblast’s reconstruction. The energy situation and the need for cogeneration plants in Kyiv oblast became another important issue in communication. The Head of the KRMA proposed to create an online platform for business, where representatives of business, companies and production from specific regions can inform about their products and services. The meeting also discussed the construction of shelters and the need for modern equipment for healthcare facilities in Kyiv oblast to provide quality medical services.

Kyiv RMA reported that a resilience centre to support military families and IDPs has been opened in Rzhyshchev. This space for support and recovery became the seventeenth in Kyiv oblast. The centre provides legal, psychological and social assistance, as well as coordination on medical issues. In partnership with the Employment Centre, it offers employment services and preparation of documents for obtaining grants.

Kyiv Regional Military Administration informed that Kyiv Regional State Administration and the Charitable Foundation ‘Blagomai’ signed a memorandum of cooperation and partnership. The document envisages coordination of the parties’ efforts to open new and equip existing rehabilitation facilities and meet the current needs of healthcare institutions in Kyiv oblast. The partners agreed to work together to improve the quality of medical care for residents of oblast, especially those affected by the hostilities. The document provides support for the renovation and restoration of institutions that were under occupation or damaged as a result of hostile aggression. It also provides charitable and humanitarian assistance in the modernisation of medical and rehabilitation equipment.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration reported that due to the shelling of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure by the russian army, residents of Zhytomyr oblast periodically face interruptions in mobile communications. According to the operators, in the case of power outages from fixed networks, it is possible to provide 3G and 4G mobile and internet services during 72 hours, but in case of overloading of data networks, communication standards may be downgraded to 2G. 

 

The RMA also informed that as a result of the full-scale war unleashed by russia, culture in the Zhytomyr oblast has suffered serious losses. According to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, as of 25 September 2024, 55 cultural infrastructure facilities were damaged or destroyed. The affected sites include 3 cultural heritage sites, including one of national and two of local significance. The list includes the Settlement No. 3 of the chronicle town of Iskorosten and the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Pokrovska), as well as the Women’s Diocesan School of Virgins.

Sumy oblast

 According to Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on 7 October, around 3p.m., the russian army conducted an artillery strike on the civilian infrastructure of Nova Slobidka community in Konotop region. The strike directly hit a house, killing two brothers, aged 35 and 38. The private property was also damaged.

On the morning of 7 October Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that on the evening of 6 October, the russian army attacked Sumy community. About 10 private homes were damaged in Sumy, including roofs, walls, and broken doors and windows. Four people were injured: an 11-year-old boy, a 34-year-old woman, and two men aged 51 and 65.

During night and morning, russians carried out 18 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 49 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopollia, Krasnopollia, Putyvl, Shalyhyne, Berezivka communities. 


The Main Directorate of the National Police in Sumy Oblast reported that on 7 October, the “White Angels” evacuated seven people, including children, from Krasnopillia region. Officers from the “White Angel” unit, along with juvenile police officers, helped evacuate four children, a woman with mobility issues, and two other adults from the area.

 

Chernihiv oblast

Viacheslav Chaus, the Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration reported that between 30 September and 6 October, 63 people, including 20 children, evacuated from the border regions of Semenivka and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities in Chernihiv Oblast due to russian shelling. 

Sapper units of the State Emergency Service (SES) discovered a part of a russian Kh-59 guided missile in Chernihiv oblast. The remnants were safely removed and transported to a designated site for destruction by a team of four sappers and two pieces of specialized equipment.

The rivers Seim and Desna in Chernihiv Oblast have been heavily polluted, leading to a mass fish die-off, including critically endangered sturgeon species. The death of sturgeon, particularly the sterlet, a species on the verge of extinction in Ukraine, has been confirmed. If the pollution persists, there is a high risk of significant reductions in the already small populations of these unique fish, posing potentially catastrophic consequences for the species.

 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

There was a loud explosion in Pavlohrad. A fire broke out in the city due to a russian missile attack, damaging an enterprise. No casualties were reported. Also, during the night, the occupiers shelled Nikopol by artillery, but no one was injured.

 

At night, air defence worked in the oblast, shooting down 4 enemy Shahed drones.

 

Throughout the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region about 10 times by artillery and kamikaze drones. They targeted the regional centre, Pokrov and Marhanets communities, damaging 3 private houses. There were no casualties.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​It was reported that 8 defenders from Vinnytsia were killed. These soldiers are Maksym Lishchynskyi, Pavlo Kolomiiets, Yevhenii Haiduk, Kostiantyn Strelnikov, Maksym Mulk, Oleksii Skokov, Yaroslav Plakhotniuk and Roman Sokol.

Kirovohrad oblast

Kirovohrad oblast lost soldier Valentyn Vivsianyi from Shepylove village, Holovanivska community, in the war with russia. He completed basic training in Spain from 14 October to 23 November and was considered missing in action since January 2024. The soldier was killed near Synkivka village (Kupiansk region of Kharkiv oblast), during a combat mission.

Poltava oblast

In Poltava, a memorial service was held for 48-year-old soldier Oleh Artemenko, who was killed on 29 September as a result of an enemy airstrike, succumbing to fatal injuries.

 

On 30 September, Oleksandr Nesterts was killed while performing a combat mission near Novohrodivka village in Donetsk oblast.

 

In Poltava, nearly UAH 6m were allocated for the restoration of a building damaged by a russian strike on 17 June, 2024. These funds were provided through the VidnovyDim (RestoreHome) program from the State Energy Efficiency Fund.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, said that during the night 3 strike drones were destroyed in Cherkasy oblast, with no casualties or damage reported.

 

In Cherkasy, a farewell was held for 2 defenders who killed protecting Ukraine  — Ihor Karpenko and Ihor Nesterenko. One soldier fell in Donetsk oblast, while the other in Sumy oblast.

 

Smila community bid farewell to fallen defender Vitalii Stupenko, who was killed in Kharkiv oblast.

 

On the night of 7 October, 44 people from Donetsk oblast arrived in Cherkasy oblast by evacuation train, including 12 children and 3 people with disabilities. They were accommodated in 3 communities within the oblast, the specific locations undisclosed for safety reasons.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, on 7 October, кussian military forces attacked Zaporizhzhia in the afternoon. Infrastructure facilities were hit, and three people were injured in the attack.

Yesterday, the occupiers launched 383 strikes across 13 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian troops conducted 9 airstrikes on Novoiakovlivka, Kamianske, Shcherbaky, Novodarivka, Poltavka, and Levadne. 225 drones of various modifications targeted Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, and Malynivka. There were 8 MLRS strikes on Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, and Malynivka. Additionally, 141 artillery strikes were carried out on Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Preobrazhenka, and Levadne. There were 10 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure facilities. One person was injured due to russian aggression.

​​In Zaporizhzhia oblast, energy workers restored electricity to over 20,000 consumers who had been disconnected due to russian shelling. Electrical crews repaired damage in the power networks of 11 frontline settlements in the region. However, 3,731 consumers remain without power supply.

Mykolaiv oblast

During the night of 7 October, air defense forces in Mykolaiv oblast destroyed one Shahed-136/131 drone.

Yesterday, on 6 October, at 12:30, the enemy shelled with artillery the village of Lupareve in Halytsynivka community. As a result of the attack, a private house was damaged. Additionally, yesterday, the enemy fired artillery twice at the village of Dmytrivka in Kutsurub community, damaging two private houses. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

As of 6 a.m. on 7 October, four russian ships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo capacity of up to 24 missiles were stationed in the Black Sea. There were three russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea, two of which were also armed with Kalibr missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 20 missiles.

Over the past 24 hours, six vessels passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in the interests of the russian federation, and another five ships entered the Sea of Azov.

During the night of 7 October 7, border guards from Odesa detachment shot down a Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drone, which the russian army used to attack southern Ukraine. The drone, approaching from the sea, was taken down by a mobile fire group of the border guards.

On the night of 6 October, russia attacked Odesa oblast with missiles, damaging the civilian vessel “PARESA,” sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The ship was loaded with corn for export at the “Pivdennyi” seaport. None of the 15 crew members were injured. The vessel was carrying approximately 6,000 tons of Ukrainian corn. This marks the 20th civilian ship damaged as a result of russian attacks.

The new commander of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, defending Vuhledar, is Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko. He has been participating in combat against russian forces since 2014. He has been awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree, a personal firearm, and several honors from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In October 2021, as a lieutenant colonel, Okhrimenko became the head of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. On 4 July, 2023, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, appointed Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko as the new head of the Odesa Regional Territorial Recruitment Center.

Kherson oblast

Today, around 10:30 a.m., russian forces carried out an airstrike on Kherson, dropping four guided bombs on the city. As a result, 14 apartment buildings, two private houses, two kindergartens, a school, and three cars were damaged. Reports indicate that 20 people were injured, including two children. A 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were taken to the hospital with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to their legs.

Around 13:00, russian forces shelled Zymivnyk, causing a 76-year-old woman to suffer blast injuries.

Last night, russian occupiers attacked residential areas in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. One person was killed. In another overnight attack, an 82-year-old woman suffered a blast injury, concussion, and shrapnel wounds.

Two teenagers sought medical help after being injured by russian shelling in Kindiika. The two 16-year-old boys were at a bus stop during the attack. One suffered a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to the shin, while the other experienced a blast injury and concussion.

Yesterday, russian forces shelled Antonivka, Honcharne, Shyroka Balka, Stanislav, Oleksandrivka, Kizomys, Zelenivka, Sadove, Novovorontsovka, Mylove, Zelenivka, Olhivka, Poniativka, Prydniprovske, and the city of Kherson. Residential buildings, including an apartment complex and 25 private homes, were damaged, along with a gas pipeline, a garage, a bus, and private vehicles. In total, five people were injured due to russian aggression.

Ukrainian forces in the south eliminated 68 russian soldiers and destroyed 36 pieces of russian military equipment yesterday. Nine bunkers, a fuel storage site, two UAV launch sites, and two ammunition depots were also targeted.

The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with special units of the 124th Marine Territorial Defense Brigade, called on russian forces to surrender. Ukrainian forces sent leaflets with this message to the temporarily occupied left bank of Kherson using artillery and drones.

Volyn oblast

Volyn community sent DELTA-TEC Loli 3, 5 DJI Mavic 3 PRO, 5 DJI Mavic 3T, 2 DJI Mavic 3, 2 DJI Mavic 3 FMC, 2 Starlink and 2 EcoFlow to the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

In Zakarpattia, a training session on the affairs and politics of the European Union began today. The purpose of the training is to develop the professional competencies of regional military and state administration employees, to present the successful experience of European integration of states that have already become EU members, to improve the qualifications of civil servants and to use the acquired knowledge to write grant projects.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 30 FPV-drones, 10 FPV-drones with auto guidance and a repeater to the military thanks to the budget funds.

Lviv oblast

Over the past week, another 163 people,included, 41 people with disabilities, were evacuated to Lviv oblast from front-line oblasts, in particular from Pokrovsk and Zaporizhzhia. Everyone was met by volunteers of the Medical and Psychological Aid, who, on the initiative of Lviv RMA, have been on duty at the Main Railway Station of Lviv since the beginning of the full-scale war.

Drohobych region sent 4 off-road vehicles and 2 charging stations to the military thanks to the KOLO CF and from the funds raised during the charity concerts held in the region the day before.

In the city of Busk, the XI All-Ukrainian Charity Festival-competition of folk, classical, modern and ballroom choreography Rhythms of Carpathia-2024 was held in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The event took place within the artistic project For You, Warrior!. During the event, it was possible to raised over UAH 80,000 to help the Armed Forces. These funds will be used to purchase electronic warfare equipment (EW).

Captain Yurii Zhukovets was awarded with the Golden Star order and awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Yurii serves in the 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast joined the European Alliance for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. This is an important stage for the region in the context of European integration, which opens up new prospects for development and cooperation with foreign partners.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council sent 2 quadcopters and tactical shoes to the 16th Separate Battalion thanks to the budget funds.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In the morning, during an air alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces within the oblast destroyed 1 enemy UAV of the Shahed type. There were no injuries, deaths or destruction.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Chernivtsi to philanthropist Marta Levchenko and Dmytro Sirman, soldier who gave his life defending Ukraine (posthumously).

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Ruben Brekelmans, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, announced that the first F-16 aircraft from the country arrived in Ukraine. He also added that the remaining 24 planes will arrive in Ukraine in the coming months.

The Netherlands are investing €400m in the advanced development of UAVs together with Ukraine.

Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia, announced that Slovakia will provide emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine in the event of a blackout.

France and Canada support Ukraine in the issue of returning children abducted by russia. The foreign ministers of the countries called on the russian federation to return Ukrainian children to their families, legal guardians and communities. They will jointly develop a clear plan with concrete measures for the return home of Ukrainian children who became victims of russia’s war of aggression. In this regard, parties will support efforts and mediation.
