War in Ukraine today: latest news, 07 December, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 1018 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 7 December, there were 91 clashes on the front. Ukrainian defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the lines and destroying the plans of the russian army. At the same time, the occupiers continue to concentrate their efforts on Lyman, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, Vremivka and on Kursk oblast.

The border areas of Chernihiv oblast suffered from russian artillery shelling. The enemy struck at the settlements of Vylchyky and Senkivka.

Towards Kharkiv, the Defense Forces repelled one assault by enemy troops near Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to advance to Ukrainian positions near Lozova, Masiutivka and Zelenyi Hai five times during the day. Three clashes are ongoing.

The aggressor increased the number of attacks to 15 towards Lyman. It attacked near Tverdokhlibove, Kopanky, Bohuslavka, Hrekivka, Cherneshchyna, Makiivka, Zarichne, Terny and Yampolivka. Eight clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attacks by occupiers near Chasiv Yar, Stupochky and Bila Hora. Two more attacks are ongoing.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy tried to advance five times in the vicinity of Toretsk, Diliivka and Nelipivka. One battle is currently ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy is also currently active. Clashes of varying intensity begun there 13 times. Enemy attacks were repelled in the vicinity of Promin, Lysivka, Dachenske, Pushkine, Zoria and Novotroitske. Six clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Kurakhove, fierce fighting is taking place. There were 19 combat clashes near Sontsivka, Zori, Kurakhove, Yelizavetivka, Romanivka, Hannivka, Uspenivka, Rozlyv and Neskuchne, eight enemy attacks are ongoing.

Towards Vremivka, the aggressor attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 10 times in the area of ​​the settlements of Veselyi Hai, Kostiantynopolske, Sukhi Yaly, Novodarivka, Novosilka, Temyrivka, five combat clashes are ongoing.

Towards Kherson, the Defense Forces repelled one enemy assault.

In Kursk oblast, Ukrainian defenders are still repelling 10 enemy attacks, with a total of 16 combat clashes.

In other front areas, there were no significant changes.

Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of combat contact and in the rear.

According to the RMA, as a result of the russian strike on December 6, 10 people were killed in Zaporizhia, including two children. Another 27 people were injured to varying degrees.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy informs that the second batch of F-16 aircraft from Denmark has arrived in Ukraine.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Around 2:20 PM, Russian aviation struck near the village of Orishanka in the Zolochiv community, reportedly using two guided aerial bombs (KABs), according to Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the Civil-Military Administration. The strike targeted an open area, with no reports of casualties or destruction.

In the village of Kachalivka, Bohodukhiv district, a 12-year-old child sustained shrapnel wounds due to an exploding munition, as reported by the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. The boy has been hospitalized.

The day before, at 2:30 PM, the settlement of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi came under attack. An FPV drone destroyed a house, but no injuries were reported.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attempted to storm Ukrainian positions five times near Vovchansk, Tykhe, and toward Vysoka Yaruga and Kozacha Lopan but were repelled.

Over the past 24 hours, nine clashes occurred in the Kupiansk direction, particularly near Kolisnykivka, Lozova, Zahryzove, and Zapadne.

In total, 60 people were evacuated from the Borivske and Kupiansk directions during the day.

Donetsk oblast

The Russian army has shifted its focus to the Pokrovsk direction. Over the past day, December 6, there were 48 attacks in this sector of the front, an increase of eight assaults compared to the previous day, according to the General Staff’s report.

In the Kurakhove direction, the occupiers launched 35 assaults near Stari Terny, Zoria, Sontsivka, Kurakhove, and Dalnie. The day before, there were 50 attacks.

Ukrainian forces repelled 21 more Russian assaults on the Vremivka front, where Russian troops attempted advances near Uspenivka, Konstantynopol, Rozdolne, Novodarivka, and Novosilka.

The Russian army is trying to push Ukrainian defenders away from the outskirts of Dalnie in the Kurakhove direction, said press officer of the 33rd Mechanized Brigade Nazar Voitenkov.

Russian forces on all active fronts in eastern Ukraine are concentrating and deploying strategic reserves they have been building up throughout the year. On the Pokrovsk front alone, four Russian brigades are opposing a single Ukrainian brigade, reported Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesperson for the “Khortytsia” Operational and Strategic Grouping of Troops.

Two coal industry workers were injured due to shelling in Kotlyne — a driver born in 1988 and a security guard born in 1966, according to the Pokrovsk Military Administration. Russians struck the facility with three FPV drones.

In Pokrovsk, firefighters extinguished a fire on a balcony of a multi-story building caused by a Russian FPV drone strike the previous day, reported the Donetsk Emergency Service.

Operational situation in the region as of the morning of December 7:

  • Pokrovsk district: Kurakhove and nearby villages remain under constant shelling. In Pokrovsk, two houses and a gas pipeline were damaged. In Kotlyne, two people were injured, and a house was destroyed.
  • Kramatorsk district: In Lyman, two apartment buildings and an administrative building were damaged.
  • Bakhmut district: In Siversk, five private houses were damaged. In the Chasiv Yar community, four private houses, an apartment building, and an industrial facility were damaged.

In total, Russians shelled settlements in Donetsk Oblast six times over the past day. From the front lines, 570 people, including 53 children, were evacuated.

Over the past day, two residents of Donetsk Oblast were injured in Kotlyne, reported Donetsk Regional Military Administration Head Vadym Filashkin.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past week, the enemy has significantly increased the use of UAVs on our section of the front. While at the end of November and the beginning of December, the number of drones per day ranged from 40 to 60, this figure now exceeds 100. Just yesterday, the occupiers directed 116 unmanned aerial vehicles toward our positions. Ukrainian defenders were shelled nine times with barrel artillery, and rocket artillery was also used. An airstrike was carried out on Novoiehorivka. Attacks by invaders were repelled near Hrekivka, Nadiia, and Makiivka.

In the occupied part of Luhansk region, a competition was held for children to determine the “best Cossack cadet corps,” where schoolchildren were evaluated on their ability to operate drones. This way, children are being prepared for war against Ukraine, according to the Center for National Resistance.

In the temporarily occupied settlement of Aidar in the Starobilsk district, the occupiers continue conducting raids and blocking the town, searching for relatives of ATO participants, reported Luhansk Regional Military Administration Head Artem Lysohor.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko, head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that 8 private houses, 2 trucks and outbuildings were damaged as a result of a Russian UAV attack in one of the settlements at night. The enemy targets were destroyed by air defence forces. There were no civilian casualties.

According to the RMA, on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kyiv oblast handed over 20 powerful diesel all-wheel drive Toyota Hilux pickup trucks to Ukrainian defenders. The vehicles were purchased at the expense of the Bila Tserkva community. The defenders also received a batch of drones and generators.

Part of the land of the Chornobyl reserve is being transferred for the construction of fortifications. By his decree, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy withdrew them from the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve and transferred them to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. This refers to the withdrawal from the territory of the reserve of land plots 45 metres wide along the state border line for the construction, arrangement and maintenance of engineering and fortification structures, fences, border signs, border clearings, and communications.

The RMA reported that 24 mobile boiler houses will be installed in Kyiv oblast for the needs of educational, medical and residential institutions to ensure a sustainable heating season. For this purpose, 12 mobile boiler houses have already been delivered. The equipment was purchased and delivered in cooperation with the Coca-Cola Company System and the Ukrainian Red Cross.

Verkhovna Rada opened an exhibition dedicated to media workers killed due to russian aggression. The exhibition will run until the end of 2024. According to IMI, as of December 2024, 100 media workers are known to have died since 2014. The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, noted that more than 30 journalists are still in captivity in russia.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Zhytomyr City Council reported that 13 Zhytomyr families received new housing to replace the destroyed ones, using housing certificates under the state compensation programme. In total, the commission for reviewing applications for destroyed real estate processed 99 applications for compensation. In 83 cases, applicants received housing certificates totalling UAH 75.5 million.

Sumy oblast

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, on 7 December, russian forces launched a missile strike on the infrastructure of Konotop community in Sumy oblast. No casualties or damage to civilian infrastructure in Konotop were reported.

On 6 Desember, russians carried out 34 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 148 explosions. The attacks targeted Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Druzhbivka, Seredyna-Buda communities.

Myropilia community: there was shelled by MLRS with cluster shells (shells with high-explosive cluster warheads were fired) (90 explosions). As a result of the shelling, a civilian was injured, residential buildings and non-residential premises were damaged.

Krasnopillia community: the enemy struck by mortars (9 explosions), dropped explosive devices from UAVs (8 explosions).

Bilopillia community: the russians struck by artillery (8 explosions), mortars (6 explosions), dropped explosive devices from UAVs (7 explosions).

Seredyna-Buda community: a strike was carried out from the territory of the russian Federation by FPV-drones (3 explosions).

Druzhbivka community: a strike was recorded by FPV-drones (4 explosions).

Velyka Pysarivka community: a strike was carried out from the territory of the russian federation by drones of the “FPV” type (4 explosions), as a result of the arrival of the FPV-drone, a private residential building was damaged. There was also mortar shelling (2 explosions).

Esman community: the russians dropped 2 mines on the territory of the community.

Chernihiv oblast

On 5 Desember russian army attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast. The enemy used mortal, grenade launchers and barrel artillery. In total, 36 explosions were recorded.

Semenivka community:

– 2 explosions by barrel artillery near Tymonovychi village;

– 2 explosions by a 120mm mortar towards Yanzhulivka village;

– 4 explosions by barrel artillery towards Lohy village.

Snovsk community:

– 3 explosions by a 120mm mortar near Kliusy village.

Horodnia community:

– 25 explosions by an easel automatic grenade launcher near Senkivka village.

No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling.

Oleksandr Lomako, Acting Mayor  of Chernihiv, reported that Chernihiv community has supplied military personnel on the front line with drones and electronic warfare equipment worth a total of UAH 6.2m.

 Chernihiv Regional Police reported that in Chernihiv oblast, police officers assisted in evacuating a woman in need of medical care from a village in the Semenivka community, located near the border with russia. 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Emergency rescue operations in Kryvyi Rih have been completed, according to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council. Updated reports indicate that rescuers recovered the body of the third victim from the rubble. In the city, two apartment buildings, ten private houses, three administrative buildings, an educational institution, and several vehicles were damaged. Attacks on Nikopol region continued, with strikes from Grad multiple rocket launchers and artillery targeting Nikopol and Pokrovska communities. Two industrial enterprises were damaged.

More than two dozen attacks have struck the Nikopol region as the occupiers continue their relentless assault. The enemy used artillery, kamikaze drones, and Grad rocket launchers to attack Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka, and Pokrovska communities. A fire broke out as a result. A gas station, five private houses, two outbuildings (one of which was completely destroyed), three vehicles, gas pipelines, power lines, and infrastructure were damaged.

In Dnipro, an exhibition titled “Unseen Strength” has opened, dedicated to the non-violent resistance against Russian occupation.

Vinnytsia oblast

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with representatives of the volunteer movement and presented them with the “Golden Heart” award. Among the honorees were two women from Vinnytsia who support Ukrainian military personnel.​​ 

Kirovohrad oblast

In Oleksandriia, a women’s charity car rally titled “Thank You, AFU!” was held in honor of the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to support the Ukrainian army.

Cherkasy oblast

During the night, defenders shot down three Russian UAVs within the Cherkasy region. This was reported by Ihor Taburets, Head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that the number of injured from the russian airstrike on Zaporizhzhia on 6 December has risen to 27, 13 of the injured are currently hospitalised.

A 65-year-old man was killed in a russian shelling of Prymorske village in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Forces repelled 8 russian attacks in Zaporizhzhia oblast and 1 assault in Orikhiv region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, said that on 6 December, russian forces launched 276 attacks on 11 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. This included 19 airstrikes targeting Zaporizhzhia, Novopavlivka, Novoandriivka and Mala Tokmachka.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the RMA, on 6 December at 4:10pm, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by an FPV drone and at 9:05pm shelled the community by artillery.

Later, at 11:45pm, the water area of Ochakiv community came under russian artillery attack. There were no casualties or injuries reported in either attack.

Odesa oblast

Oleksii Neizhpapa, Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, stated that naval drones attacked seized gas platforms near Crimea, destroying russian military surveillance systems.

Kherson oblast

Roman Mrochko, Head of Kherson CMA, attacked Antonivka, a suburb of Kherson, by a drone, injuring a 35-year-old man who was hospitalised.

According to the RMA, a 62-year-old Kherson resident was hospitalised with an explosive injury and a shrapnel wound to the shin following russian shelling a few days ago.

As reported by Roman Mrochko, Head of the CMA, informed that a 46-year-old man from Kherson oblast was hospitalised due to a russian drone attack last evening. He suffered an explosive injury and hypertensive crisis.

According to the RMA, russian occupiers dropped explosives from a UAV on a resident of Kindiika. The 46-year-old man was hospitalised with an explosive injury and shrapnel wounds to his arms and legs.

As reported by Roman Mrochko, Head of the CMA, in the morning, russian forces shelled Komyshany near Kherson. A 53-year-old man sustained a concussion, an explosive injury and a closed traumatic brain injury.

According to the RMA, last evening, russian forces attacked a 57-year-old man in Vesele by a drone. Today, he was hospitalised with an explosive injury and leg wounds.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, said that a total of 16 people, including a child, were injured in russian attacks on Kherson oblast over the past day. Yhe russian forces targeted 20 settlements in the oblast and launched 3 missile strikes on Beryslav region. The attacks damaged a grain storage facility, a gas pipeline, a gas station, 16 private houses and vehicles.

Volyn oblast

The 1st Operational Battalion of the Military Unit 3028 received a DJI Mavic 3T Enterprise Thermal quadcopter, DJI Mavic 3 Pro RC quadcopter, ECOFLOW DELTA MAX, Starlink satellite modem, AVANGER Booster remote antenna kit. The Military Unit A7091 received 10 VRK-8 UAVs with a day camera, a DJI Mavic 3T Enterprise Thermal quadcopter and a DJI Mavic 3 Pro RC quadcopter. Help was provided by Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 20 packages with necessary things for children under 1 year old and 50 bags with grocery sets. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (1,200 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help eV and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Children from Kherson oblast arrived in the oblast. They are hosted by one of the health facilities in the mountainous area. A rich and interesting leisure program with sports and creative activities is provided for young guests. Also, specialists will work with boys and girls who will help to get rid of anxieties and fears.

Lviv oblast

In Lviv Center for the provision of services to combatants, professional and experienced psychologists provide free counseling to military personnel and their families and help them overcome crisis situations. In 11 months of 2024, over 2,500 such services were provided here – mostly to military personnel who returned from the war.

Rivne oblast

Another cogeneration plant that produces electricity from gas was launched in Rivne. This powerful equipment will work at one of the boiler houses of the regional center of Rivne oblast, providing it with electricity and the residents of the city with heat. This is already the 8th such installation for Rivne oblast that the oblast received within the cooperation of Rivne RMA, the Ministry of Reconstruction and the USAID project on energy security.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil community sent a car to the military thanks to the Wheels of Victory CF.

The RMA handed over 13 housing certificates to combatants from among internally displaced persons and veterans of the Anti-Terrorist Operation. Ternopil oblast received a subsidy from the state budget in the amount of UAH 27.5m for the purchase of 13 apartments (houses) and improvement of living conditions.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In Khmelnytskyi community, 43 family members of fallen heroes received financial aid. The total assistance itself is over UAH 810,000.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council reported that the Chernivtsiteplokomunenerho company received UAH 20.3m for the stable supply of heat to residents of the city.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Canada banned the use of 324 types of weapons in its country. It is planned to be sent to Ukraine. According to the report, the move is a continuation of a ban Canada implemented in May 2020, when 1,500 makes and models of firearms were banned, and by November of this year, the number had grown to over 2,000 due to the discovery of new types.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, arrived in Paris. The Ukrainian leader has a series of meetings planned with several heads of state, specifically with Emmanuel Macron, French President. Donald Trump, newly elected US President, is also in Paris. His conversation with the Head of France should take place immediately before Macron’s meeting with Zelenskyy.

In Vilnius, free travel in public transport was left for Ukrainians for another year.
