It has been the 1593  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm: 

On 5 July, the aggressor launched 55 attacks on the positions of the Defense Forces.

Artillery shellings of border areas continue. Sopych, Holyshivske, Ulanove, and Bachivsk in Sumy oblast, as well as Liady and Yasna Polyana in Chernihiv oblast, came under fire. The enemy also launched airstrikes near Ulanove and Tovstodubove.

  • Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk: No enemy attempts to advance were recorded; however, the occupiers launched one airstrike deploying a guided aerial bomb and carried out 22 shellings of settlements and Ukrainian troop positions.
  • Towards Southern Sloboda: The invaders made seven attempts to break through the defense lines in the vicinity of Izbytske, Starytsia, Vilcha, and Sheviakivka. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
  • Towards Kupiansk: No enemy attempts to advance were recorded.
  • Towards Lyman: Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled two attempts by the invaders to advance near Stavky and Dibrova.
  • Towards Sloviansk: The occupiers made 13 attempts to push forward near Zakitne, Rai-Oleksandrivka, Kryva Luka, and Riznykivka. One combat engagement remains ongoing.
  • Towards Kramatorsk: No enemy attempts to advance were recorded.
  • Towards Kostiantynivka: Our defenders successfully repelled seven attacks near Ivanopillia, Illinivka, and Kostiantynivka.
  • Towards Pokrovsk: Twelve attempts by the occupiers to push our soldiers from their positions have been recorded since the beginning of today near the settlements of Kucheriv Yar, Vilne, Novyi Donbas, Bilytske, Dorozhne, Novooleksandrivka, Serhiivka, Udachne, and Hryshyne. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
  • Towards Oleksandrivka: Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled two attacks in the vicinity of Oleksandrohrad and Verbove.
  • Towards Huliaipole: The Defense Forces successfully repelled 10 enemy attacks near Hirke, Novoselivka, Pryvilne, Rizdvianka, and Kopani.
  • Towards Orikhiv: Our defenders stopped two enemy attempts to advance in the vicinity of Kamianske and Plavni.
  • Towards Kherson: No enemy attempts to advance were recorded.

In other directions, there were no significant changes in the situation.

  Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Over the past day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that 295 combat engagements were recorded along the front line.

  • Towards Southern Sloboda: russian troops launched 15 attacks on the positions of the Defense Forces in the vicinity of Starytsia, Synelnykove, Artilne, Kudievka, and Vilcha, as well as in the directions of Khatnie, Izbytske, Zarubynka, and Sheviakivka.
  • Towards Kupiansk: The occupiers carried out two attacks—in the direction of Novo साहसynove and near Kolisnykivka.

russian troops targeted Kharkiv with drones, striking the Kyivskyi, Slobidskyi, Saltoivskyi, and Industrialnyi districts. In the Kyivskyi district, a UAV strike left three women aged 73, 75, and 40, a 74-year-old man, and an 18-year-old girl with blast injuries, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported. All victims were hospitalized.

In Bohodukhiv, a russian drone struck the town center. Two men were killed, and two other people, including a police officer, sustained injuries, while a 26-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction. A supermarket, a furniture store, and two cars were damaged, according to Mayor Volodymyr Belyi and the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration.

The Head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration reports that Kharkiv and 22 other settlements in the region came under russian fire over the past day. Three people were killed, and eight others were injured, including a child.

In total, russian troops deployed six guided aerial bombs, four “Geran-2” UAVs, seven “Molniya” UAVs, eight FPV drones, and 20 unidentified drones. The attacks damaged apartment buildings, a gas station, railway infrastructure, an agricultural enterprise, a combine harvester, power grids, cars, and other civilian infrastructure objects across Kharkiv, as well as the Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Kharkiv, Lozova, Chuhuiv, and Berestyn districts.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova accommodated 158 people over the past day. Since it began operating, 44,142 evacuated individuals have passed through the point.

Donetsk Oblast

Over the past day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that more than 200 combat engagements were recorded along the front line.

  • Towards Slovyansk: russian troops launched 25 assaults on the positions of the Defense Forces in the vicinity of Kryva Luka and Rai-Oleksandrivka, as well as near Zakitne and Riznykivka.
  • Towards Pokrovsk: Ukrainian military forces repelled 31 attacks.
  • Towards Kostiantynivka: The occupiers carried out 17 assaults.

The 7th Assault Corps reported that the Defense Forces launched an airstrike on the base of the russian “Rubikon” unit in temporarily occupied Pokrovsk. According to their data, the occupiers lost up to two UAV crew operational stations, a communications hub, ammunition stocks, and 10–15 servicemen as a result of the strike.

Donetsk Regional Police reports that on 4 July, russian troops launched 1,147 strikes along the front line and the residential sector of the region. Seven settlements came under shelling, damaging 19 civilian objects, including five residential houses. One person was killed, and six others were injured, including a child.

  • Druzhkivka: An FPV drone hit a civilian car, killing one person and injuring another.
  • Kramatorsk: russian troops deployed a KAB-250 guided aerial bomb and drones. Five civilians were injured, including a child. The attack damaged a bus station, a supermarket, a cafe, a service station, a medical facility, an auto parts store, an enterprise, and a car.
  • Slovyansk: Three Gerbera UAVs damaged two private houses, a bus, and a car.
  • Other areas: Damage was also recorded in Oleksandrivka, Ocheretyne, Bilenke, and Bilozerske.

Luhansk oblast

The Head of Luhansk Oblast Military Administration reports that russian troops carried out 33 shellings on Luhansk oblast over the past day. The occupiers deployed 27 drones—including four FPV drones and 23 ammunition drops—alongside striking four times with mortars and twice with tube artillery.

  • Towards Lyman: The Defense Forces repelled 9 attacks.
  • Towards Kupiansk: The russian army made two offensive attempts.

The leader of the so-called “LPR” has signed a decree to conduct a cadastral valuation of real estate in temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast in 2027. According to Luhansk Region Military Administration, the assessment will cover all categories of land plots, residential and non-residential buildings, and other real estate objects. The administration notes that this is another step toward integrating the occupied territory into the property and tax system of the russian federation, creating a framework for identifying and subsequently seizing the property of Ukrainians who were forced to leave the region.

Luhansk Region Military Administration reports that the occupation authorities continue the militarization of youth in occupied Luhansk oblast. Cadets of the military training center, established on the basis of the relocated Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, took a military oath in Volgograd. The center trains reserve officers and sergeants, specifically for artillery and mortar specialties, promising students military ranks and subsequent employment within russian security and law enforcement structures. According to the RMA, russia is thus building a personnel reserve for its armed forces and drawing youth from the occupied territories into the war against Ukraine.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as of the evening of 4 July, emergency rescue operations have been completed at the site where a 16-storey residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district was struck during russia’s overnight attack on 2 July. Human remains recovered during the operation have been transferred to the National Police for forensic examination. As of today, the russian attack on 2 July has claimed the lives of 31 people, while another 102 were injured.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, bomb disposal specialists in Kyiv safely destroyed cluster submunitions from a russian Kh-69 missile. The ordnance was neutralised at the site where it was found. Emergency responders used an Avenger tactical robotic system to dispose of the explosive devices.

According to the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group, as of 4 July, efforts to rescue wildlife are continuing at the Obolon lakes in Kyiv, where petroleum products leaked following a russian attack. Over the past three days, volunteers have rescued more than 40 birds, a beaver, and a marsh turtle. The rescue operation is ongoing. State Emergency Service personnel and environmental organisations are also working at the site to mitigate the consequences of the petroleum spill in the Obolon lake system.

According to the State Emergency Service in Kyiv oblast, firefighters have extinguished a large wildfire covering 130 hectares in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. Firefighting operations are continuing at three remaining hotspots, one of which has already been contained.

According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the symbolic “Flame of Hope” memorial was inaugurated in Bucha this week to honour Ukrainian prisoners of war and those missing in action. The city also hosted German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Defence Sebastian Hartmann, accompanied by senior military officials, followed by a visit from Swedish experts in strategic communications and countering disinformation. In addition, the Bucha Resilience Centre completed Ukraine’s first Art&Tech programme, “Circle of Resilience: Artistic Regeneration of Communities.”

Zhytomyr oblast

In Zhytomyr, seven more internally displaced persons (IDPs) will receive housing vouchers worth a total of UAH 2 million to purchase homes. The decision was approved by the city council’s executive committee. Under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1176, the vouchers are available to combat veterans and persons with war-related disabilities among internally displaced persons who previously resided in temporarily occupied territories. To date, the Zhytomyr community has received 340 applications, all of which have been processed.

According to the Zhytomyr City Council, another “Solar Panel Installation” training course for veterans and their family members has been completed in Zhytomyr. This time, certificates were awarded to 10 participants. According to the council, the knowledge gained will help some graduates improve their own households, while for others it may become the foundation for a new profession or the development of their own business.

Sumy oblast

The City Military Administration reported that on the evening of 4 July, russian forces struck a filling station in Sumy. Three women aged 55, 20 and 47 were injured in the attack. Their condition is satisfactory. They underwent medical examinations and are receiving outpatient treatment. The filling station staff were not injured.

The State Emergency Service of Sumy oblast informed that throughout 4 July, rescue workers were operating at the site of the overnight russian air strike in Sumy. The work had to be temporarily suspended several times due to the threat of repeated enemy strikes. Despite the risks, the emergency operations were completed.

From the morning of 4 July to the morning of 5 July, russian forces carried out more than 110 attacks on 23 settlements across 12 territorial communities of Sumy oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 23 hours and 57 minutes during the reporting period.

According to the Regional Military Administration reported that, as of the morning of 5 July, seven people had been injured in enemy attacks across Sumy oblast over the previous 24 hours. Damage to civilian infrastructure facilities and residential buildings was also recorded:

▪️ In Sumy community, a 19-year-old, a 49-year-old and a 55-year-old woman were injured in a UAV strike. Civilian infrastructure facilities, non-residential premises and a passenger vehicle were damaged. A 30-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman, and girls aged 16 and 18, who had been injured in the guided aerial bomb strike on the community on 3 July, also sought medical assistance;

▪️ In Bilopollia community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;

▪️ In Richky community, a private residential house was damaged;

▪️ In Trostianets community, an outbuilding was damaged;

▪️ In Sad community, a non-residential premises was damaged;

▪️ In Myropillia community, a private residential house was damaged;

▪️ In Krasnopillia community, a private residential house was destroyed, while civilian infrastructure facilities and another residential house were damaged;

▪️ In Esman community, a private household was destroyed;

▪️ In Shalyhyne community, a residential house was damaged;

▪️ In Znob-Novhorodske community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.

The Regional Military Administration announced that Sumy is introducing an additional public warning system in the event of an immediate threat of enemy guided aerial bomb strikes. A separate announcement will be broadcast over loudspeakers across the city: “Attention! Guided aerial bombs targeting the city. Everyone to shelters!” This does not replace air raid alerts or notifications from the Air Force. It is an additional level of warning intended to help people react more quickly and move to safety.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that at around 8:25am. On 5 July, russian forces attacked the Rohove House of Culture by a Molniya UAV. At around 7:20am., the enemy struck the premises of an agricultural enterprise in Semenivka, Novhorod-Siverskyi region. At 10:20 am., another Molniya UAV struck Semenivka, damaging an administrative building.

The National Police of Chernihiv oblast informed that on 4 July, the russian army attacked an agricultural enterprise in Ripky community, an agricultural enterprise in Smiach village, and households in Budo-Vorobiivska village, Novhorod-Siverska community. The attacks damaged the enterprise and destroyed and damaged outbuildings and a residential house.

According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, on 4 July, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar attacks (22 explosions), artillery strikes (2 explosions), one Molniya UAV strike, FPV drone attacks (3 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (3 explosions). Eight settlements came under enemy fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that an enterprise was damaged in an enemy attack on Dnipro.

The enemy also used artillery and drones to attack the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities. A private residential house and an outbuilding were damaged. According to updated information, three people, including two children, were injured in yesterday’s artillery strike on Nikopol: a woman and two boys aged 13 and 2.

A UAV attack in Piatykhatka community caused fires and damaged infrastructure. The enemy also struck Pavlohrad by UAVs. A fire broke out, damaging a private residential house, a garage and a vehicle. Two people were injured.

The enemy struck Vasylkivka community by guided aerial bombs. One person was injured. A fire broke out, and apartment buildings and a garage were damaged.

A UAV attack damaged infrastructure in Synelnykove. The occupiers also used artillery and drones to attack the regional centre, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural and Pokrovske urban communities. An apartment building, enterprises and vehicles were damaged.

UAV attacks in Pavlohrad caused fires. A vehicle service station, infrastructure, private residential houses and vehicles were damaged. russian forces also attacked Samar and Pishchanska community by UAVs. A wheat field caught fire, and infrastructure was damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

Residents of Olhopil paid tribute to Yevdokiia Voitovska, the mother of fallen Ukrainian defender Ihor Brodskyi. She was killed on 2 July during a russian missile attack on Kyiv. 

Cherkasy oblast

A rally in support of prisoners of war and missing service members, titled “Do Not Stay Silent — Captivity Kills”, was held in Cherkasy. Relatives of prisoners of war and missing defenders gathered with placards and flags.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, 5 July, russian forces attacked civilian facilities in Zaporizhzhia. The shelling damaged a store and the grounds of an enterprise. Three people were injured.

It is reported that russian forces also struck Vilniansk community in Zaporizhzhia oblast today. According to preliminary information, two women were injured. The attack damaged 15 private houses in Vilniansk and also destroyed the building of Pavlivka Village Council boarding school.

Zaporizhzhia RMA reported that yesterday, 4 July, russian forces launched 912 strikes on 56 settlements across Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian troops carried out 24 airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia, Kushuhum, Balabyne, Veselianka, Hryhorivka, Tavriiske, Novooleksandrivka, Novosoloshyne, Lisne, Rozivka, Rizdvianivka, Zaliznychne, Omelnyk, Mykilske, Kopani, Shyroke, Babashy, Chervonyi Yar, Vilnianka, Rivne, and Danylivka. 

607 UAVs of various types, primarily FPV drones, targeted Zaporizhzhia, Kushuhum, Malokaterynivka, Richne, Novoiakovlivka, Bilenke, Mariivka, Rozumivka, Novooleksandrivka, Semenenkove, Rozdillia, Bohunivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Luhivske, Charivne, Novoselivka, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, Kosivtseve, Dobropillia, Rybne, and Preobrazhenka. 

russian forces also carried out 24 MLRS strikes on Lukianivske, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Huliaipilske, and Verkhnia Tersa. In addition, 257 artillery strikes hit Richne, Novoiakovlivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Luhivske, Charivne, Novoselivka, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, and Dobropillia. Authorities received 283 reports of damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure. One person was killed and 16 others were injured in russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia region.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 16:00 on 5 July, Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled ten russian attacks towards Huliaipole near Hirke, Novoselivka, Pryvilne, Rizdvianka, and Kopani. Ukrainian defenders stopped two russian attempts to advance near Kamianske and Plavni towards Orikhiv.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that its forces struck russian military facilities and logistics hubs in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia oblast. The strikes targeted a key communications hub near Huliaipole, russian ammunition depots, and warehouses containing military equipment and logistical supplies. In addition to damaging infrastructure, russian forces suffered personnel losses among drone units and rear support services.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 4 July, russian forces attacked the region with Shahed drones. As a result of the attack, a warehouse building belonging to a dairy processing enterprise in Mykolaiv was damaged. Two women, aged 47 and 54, suffered acute stress reactions. They received medical assistance at the scene.

Odesa oblast

On 4 July, Superhumans Reunion, the annual event of the Superhumans Center for War Trauma, took place in Odesa. The event brought together veterans, the center’s patients, medical professionals, partners, and government officials. It was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska. Discussions focused on the rehabilitation of wounded service members, while veterans with amputations took part in an amputee football tournament.

Kherson oblast

Kherson RMA reported that at approximately 14:20 on 5 July, russian forces attacked a vehicle in central Kherson with a drone. Two people were injured.

At around 10:30, russian forces shelled Tomyna Balka with artillery. A 55-year-old man sustained a blast injury as a result of the attack.

The Police of Kherson oblast reported that yesterday, 4 July, russian forces shelled settlements in Kherson and Beryslav regions using artillery, mortars, and tanks, while also carrying out attacks with FPV drones, strike UAVs, and drone-dropped munitions. The attacks damaged six private houses, three apartment buildings, a company cafeteria, a kindergarten building, a police service vehicle, and a civilian car. Ten people, including four police officers, were injured as a result of the russian attacks.

According to Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces, Ukrainian defenders in the south eliminated 156 russian troops over the past day. They also destroyed 84 pieces of russian weapons and military equipment, two supply depots, and 87 russian military shelters.

Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces struck three power facilities on the occupied left bank of Kherson oblast. According to the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, the strikes targeted two electrical substations and a transformer in Henichesk, Overianivka, and Preobrazhenka. Overall, between July 1 and July 5, Ukrainian forces destroyed 37 power facilities in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, as well as in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The 15th veteran business fair I Could Do It – You Can Too! and the all-Ukrainian sports competition Veterans Games were held in Lutsk. This time, over 30 veteran businesses presented their goods and services.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod City Council reported that the budget will allocate UAH 300,000 for one-time financial assistance to a Uzhhorod resident who has made special contributions to the Motherland.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

A ceremonial opening of an annotation board in honor of Andri Litaniiuk, defender of Ukraine, soldier of the 102nd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, took place in Ivano-Frankivsk. The life of a brave warrior ended on 1 November 2025.

Lviv oblast

8 people from Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions arrived in the region. They were taken to a place of temporary residence in the Oleshanska community, where they will be provided with the necessary social support, help to formalize the status of internally displaced persons, assign state assistance, and provide psychological and medical support. Immediately after arrival, the people were registered to receive a one-time cash assistance.

Rivne oblast

The Veterans’ Office reported that over the past 2 years, funds have been allocated for the purchase of 135 apartments for veterans in Rivne oblast.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council reported that 80 children of the military personnel and families of internally displaced persons went on vacation to the Carpathians.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

An additional UAH 2.2m was allocated for the rehabilitation of children from privileged categories – children of the fallen, captured and missing Defenders. Several stages of rehabilitation abroad are already being planned.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council reported that UAH 8m was allocated to co-finance projects in two community lyceums to continue implementing the standards of the New Ukrainian School.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Ukrenergo will receive a grant of EUR 11m from the German Government through KfW. The assistance will allow it to purchase critically needed equipment for the repair of energy infrastructure.

An agreement has been signed with the governments of Norway and the Netherlands to provide a grant of EUR 44.6m to Ukrnafta.
