What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the invaders’ advance. On 2 June, there were 67 combat clashes with the russian aggressor.

The community of Petrushivka, Sumy oblast, was hit by enemy airstrikes.

Towards Kharkiv, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack in the Vovchansk area. The enemy launched an airstrike on the Vovchanski Khutory settlement.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked five times in the areas of the Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane, and Zelenyi Hai settlements. Four combat clashes are still ongoing

Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out ten attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the Hrekivka, Novyi Myr, Ridkodub, Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Torske settlements and in the direction of Hryhorivka; three combat clashes are still ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding their defenses and inflicting losses on the enemy.

Towards Siversk, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked near Verkhnokamianske.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy stormed the positions of the Defense Forces in the direction of Bila Hora. Ukrainian defenders stopped three enemy offensive actions.

Towards Toretsk, five clashes occurred in the vicinity of the settlements of Diliivka, Pleshchiivka, Toretsk and in the direction of Yablunivka. The defense forces repelled all enemy attacks.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian invaders made 23 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions near the settlements of Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Malynivka, Lysivka, Dachenske, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Muravka and in the vicinity of Pokrovsk. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelling 17 enemy attacks, five clashes are ongoing. The enemy launched an airstrike on Myroliubivka.

Towards Novopavlivka, there were twelve enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Kostiantynopol, Odradne, Novosilka, Vilne Pole, Zelene Pole, Novopol, and in the vicinity of Novoukrainka and Komar; two clashes are still ongoing. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the area of ​​the settlement of Novopol.

Towards Huliaipole, enemy aircraft carried out strikes in the vicinity of the settlements of Olhivske, Poltavka, and Huliaipole.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy carried out air strikes in the vicinity of the settlements of Orikhiv, and Novoandriivka.

Towards Kherson, the invaders carried out an airstrike in the vicinity of ​​the settlement of Olhivka.

Towards Kursk, there were 12 clashes. In addition, the enemy carried out eight airstrikes, dropping 14 anti-aircraft missiles, and carried out 70 artillery attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, including two from multiple launch rocket systems.

In the remaining areas, there were no significant changes in the situation.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Over the last day, 146 combat engagements were recorded.

▪️ towards Kharkiv, three combat engagements took place in the vicinity of Fiholivka, Hlyboke and Krasne Pershe.

▪️ ten enemy attacks were registered towards Kupiansk. Defence forces repelled the enemy’s assault in the vicinity of Stepova Novoselivka and Nova Kruhliakivka.

Attacks

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office said that five people have been wounded in air strikes on Kupiansk. The first hit occurred at around 9:30am, injuring two women aged 56 and 60, as well as a 78-year-old man. At least 30 residential buildings were damaged. A second attack took place at 11:45am, causing damage to a private sector building, wounding two women.

Yesterday Kharkiv city and 5 settlements of Kharkiv oblast came under hostile attacks. As a result of the shelling, 12 people were injured, including 2 children.

In Kharkiv, a 7-year-old boy, women aged 56, 35 and 81, and men aged 42 and 36 were injured; in Kupiansk, a 49-year-old, 68-year-old and 75-year-old women were injured; in the village of Vilshany, Solonitsev community, a 7-year-old boy, a 36-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were injured.

The enemy attacked Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv with 3 UAVs and Kyivskyi district of the city with 2 ballistic missiles.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast: 

▪️ 1 Iskander-M missile;

▪️ 1 missile (type to be determined);

▪️ 1 KAB;

▪️ 5 UAVs of the Geranium-2 type;

▪️ 1 Shahed UAV;

▪️ 1 UAV, preliminary, Lancet;

▪️ 1 drone (type to be determined).

Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:

▪️ in Kharkiv, 4 private houses, a multi-storey building, a civilian enterprise, and 3 cars were damaged;

▪️ in Kharkiv region, a private house was damaged;

▪️ in Kupiansk region, 4 private houses, a multi-storey building, a car, and power lines were damaged;

▪️ a warehouse building was damaged in Chuhuiv region;

▪️ an educational institution and a hospital were damaged in Izium region.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

The Russian army has increased the number of assaults in the Seversky sector to eight. There were two attacks the day before. The Russian army was attacking the positions of Ukrainian units near Bilohorivka, Verkhnekamianske and towards Hryhorivka,” said the General Staff. In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped 47 attacks over the past day, while in the Lyman sector the Russian army attacked 20 times.

In the Toretsk sector, Russian troops are trying to break through towards Kostyantynivka. There is no threat of encirclement of Toretsk, the situation is under control, said Viktor Tregubov, spokesman for the Khortytsia military command post. In the Novopavlivka sector, Russia is trying to break through to Bahatyry, but suffers losses.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian troops continue to attempt a “creeping offensive”. Russian troops are acting without equipment, trying to break through the Siversky Donets – Donbas and from Klishchiyivka and Andriivka. Despite the increase in shelling, the Russian army is not making progress,” said Vitaliy Pyasetsky, chief sergeant of the 93rd separate mechanised brigade “Kholodny Yar”.

“In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian troops destroyed a self-propelled artillery system “Gvozdika” of the Russian army,” reported the Khortytsia military unit.

Attacks

A church in Novoekonomichne was destroyed by russian shelling.

Vadym Liakh, Head of the RMA, reported that around 4am on 2 June, russian military fired a Geranium-2 UAV at Sloviansk. There were no casualties, but administrative buildings, cafes and high-rise buildings in the city centre were damaged.

Russia also struck Lyman and Staroraiske. There is no information on casualties so far.

One person was killed and four injured in Donetsk oblast over the last day. Police recorded 3,294 russian attacks along the frontline and in the residential sector.

The enemy focused fire on 7 settlements: Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Dmytrokolyne, Pryvillia, and Samarske.

The destruction of 62 civilian objects, including 32 residential buildings.

The russians dropped three KAB-250 bombs on Kostiantynivka, and also attacked the town with drones, killing a civilian and injuring three others. They damaged 27 private houses, a car, and critical infrastructure.

One person was wounded in Hryshyne of Pokrovsk community, a private house was damaged. In Pokrovsk, an apartment building was damaged as a result of a bomb attack. 

Two private houses were damaged in Lyman. Russian troops attacked the Oleksandrivka community with 11 drones: a private house and 2 non-residential premises were damaged in Samarske, and an agricultural enterprise was destroyed in Dmytrokolynome.

Veronika Bakhal, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service in Donetsk region, said on Suspilne Donbas that in Bilozerske, rescuers continue to search for two people under the rubble of a damaged five-storey building, and rescue operations at the site of the strike are ongoing. Other

Yana Stepanenko, who lost both her legs as a result of the shelling of Kramatorsk on 8 April 2022, became a laureate of the Children’s Heroes campaign. 

Last year, Yana ran the Boston Marathon to raise funds for a sports prosthesis for Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Riasnyi. This year, she took part in the Tokyo Marathon to raise funds for sports prostheses for Oleksandr Zhavnenko.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported about the forum Irpin that focused on child protection challenges that have arisen as a result of russia’s full-scale invasion. The discussion focused on:

– challenges for Ukrainian children during the war;

– return and reintegration of children who were in the occupied territories or forcibly deported to russia;

– the impact of stress on learning and psycho-emotional development;

– protection of children from recruitment, manipulation and destructive influence of russia.

The press service of Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that demining was carried out in Kyiv oblast. The sappers of the State Emergency Service will destroy explosive devices in Vyshgorod district. Residents of the district and the outskirts of the capital are urged to remain calm.

The press service of Kyiv City State Administration has announced the launch of the online training programme ‘Veteran’s Wife’. The programme is aimed at partners, wives of veterans, missing persons, prisoners of war and fallen defenders. The course is designed to help veterans’ wives support their loved ones and themselves, gain essential knowledge and skills. The course is free of charge and covers medical, legal, economic and psychological issues. It is based on proven practices of working with veterans’ wives.

Oleksandr Kovtunov, head of the Darnytsia district administration announced that a dual-purpose shelter is being built in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv. The shelter, scheduled to open this summer, is designed to accommodate more than 200 people and be accessible to people with disabilities. The area of the shelter is almost 160 square metres.

Zhytomyr oblast

Vitaliy Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, announced that a reconstructed and modernised kindergarten, damaged by russian air strikes last week, was opened in the Andrushivka community. The project was implemented through the joint efforts of the community, entrepreneurs, local and regional deputies, and with the support of UNICEF. The space can accommodate up to 50 boys and girls. The kindergarten has a music hall, a resource room, centralised heating, a ramp with handrails for people with disabilities, barrier-free access to the ground floor and a shelter. The shelter is designed for 318 people and is equipped in accordance with all safety and inclusivity requirements; children can comfortably rest there during alarms.

Sumy oblast

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that on 2 June, russian forces struck the area near ‘Hlynsk Desert’ monastery in Sosnivka village, Shostka region, using an FPV-drone. As a result of the attack, a 21-year-old man who worked at the monastery was injured. He was hospitalized in Hlukhiv by blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to the chest.

The Regional Military Administration informed that this morning, russian forces struck the center of Khotin village in Sumy region by three guided aerial bombs. Civilian infrastructure was damaged — under enemy fire were a medical facility, an educational institution, a church, and around 20 private houses.

According to the Regional Military Administration, on 2 June, two women — aged 57 and 43 — sustained shrapnel injuries due to a russian attack on Sumy. The strike occurred around 10:15am, hitting industrial infrastructure as well as residential areas.

Throughout the day, from the morning of 1 June to the morning of 2 June, russian forces carried out over 130 shellings across 45 settlements in 16 territorial communities. The most intense attacks were recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (15 strikes) and UAV-dropped explosive devices (nearly 30 strikes). Additionally, russian forces launched UAV, FPV-drone, MLRS, and missile strikes on Sumy oblast.

As a result of russian shelling over the past day:

  • In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house caught fire.
  • In Velyka Pysarivka community, civilian infrastructure was damaged.
  • In Vorozhbianka community, five private houses and civilian infrastructure were damaged.
  • In Sumy community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.

Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, announced that in Lypova Dolyna, plans are underway to build a modular town for displaced persons, costing nearly UAH 14m.. The project will be funded by partners under a trilateral memorandum between Sumy Regional Military Administration, UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and Lypova Dolyna community.

Chernihiv oblast

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that on the morning of 2 June, russian forces struck an enterprise in Pryluky region. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out, covering nearly 7,000 square meters. Production facilities were damaged, but there are no civilian casualties.

 Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that throughout 1 June, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (14 explosions) and barrel artillery strikes (9 explosions), launched FPV-drone attacks (8 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (25 explosions). Ten settlements came under enemy fire.

In Semenivska community, due to UAV-dropped explosive devices in the area of Mykolaivka village, an administrative building and two non-residential houses caught fire. In the villages of Zarichchia and Chornozem, non-residential houses also burned.

The Department of Civil Protection and Defence Work of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration informed that throughout 1 June, russian forces attacked Pryluky region by ‘Geran-2’ UAVs, resulting in a total of 11 explosions.

According to Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, over the past week, all regions of the oblast — 35 settlements — came under russian attacks. A total of 190 shellings were recorded, resulting in 414 explosions. These included five missile and aerial strikes: guided aerial bombs (GABs), unguided aviation rockets, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.

During this period, eight people were injured due to enemy attacks in Novhorod-Siverskyi and Nizhyn regions. Around 20 houses, a school building, a village council building, an agricultural enterprise, hangars, a shop, and civilian vehicles were either destroyed or damaged.

The Regional Military Administration announced that over the past week, 17 people have left the shelled border areas. Despite this, around 770 people still remain in the 5-kilometre zone.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Throughout the night, the enemy attacked Nikopol region. The occupiers carried out about two and a half dozen attacks. They mainly targeted the regional center, damaging 2 high-rise buildings, a kindergarten, a shopping center, 2 private houses, an outbuilding, a car, infrastructure, and a power line. Marhanets community was also shelled several times. Three people were injured, men aged 51, 68 and 72. They were provided with the necessary medical assistance. A medical facility, a fire station, a store, and a power line were damaged.

The occupiers attacked Nikopol and Synelnykove regions of the oblast. They bombed the Nikopol region with drones. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Pokrovske, and Marhanets communities. A high-rise building, car, and infrastructure were damaged. The enemy hit Novopavlivka community of Synelnykove region with GABs. Malomykhaylivka community was also attacked.

Kirovohrad oblast

In the village of Kutsa Balka, Holovaniv district, Kirovohrad region, they said goodbye to serviceman Dmytro Petrov. Since October 21, 2024, he was considered missing, but on 28 May 2025, the death of the soldier was confirmed by DNA examination.

In Kropyvnytskyi, a memorial plaque was unveiled in honor of Ihor Zamotskyi, a soldier of the third separate special purpose regiment named after Prince Sviatoslav the Brave. He was killed on 8 June 2024 near the village of Blahodatne in Donetsk oblast at the age of 25. On 30 September 2024, by Decree of the President of Ukraine, Ihor Zamotsky was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Gold Star Order.

Poltava oblast

Volodymyr Kohut, Acting Head of the RMA, reports that during an air raid in Myrhorod region, a fence and glazing of a private household were damaged by falling rocket fragments. There were no injuries or deaths. 

A serviceman from Poltava oblast, Yevhen Averkeiev, was killed on 27 May as a result of russian shelling with FPV drones and artillery near the settlement of Shevchenko, Donetsk oblast.

Soldier Igor Kirii from Khorol region was posthumously awarded the For Courage Order of the 3rd degree. The soldier served as a sniper in the 95th separate airborne assault brigade. He participated in battles in Kursk oblast, where he was killed on 4 January 2025 while performing a combat mission. The order and certificate were handed over to the family.

Cherkasy oblast

In Uman, the residents paid tribute to the fallen defender Oleh Dyshkant. The defender was killed on 24 May in Donetsk oblast during a gun battle with the enemy.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, 2 June, the russian army attacked a fire station in the frontline Stepnohirsk community. As a result of the shelling, four rescuers were injured. The fire-rescue station building and fire trucks were also severely damaged.

At night, the russians attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones. One private house was destroyed in the night attack, and more than 60 others were damaged. Four apartment buildings and infrastructure facilities in the Komunarskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts were affected.

Yesterday, 1 June, the occupiers carried out 593 strikes on 16 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched one missile strike on Zaporizhzhia. Twelve airstrikes targeted Ternuvate, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, and Kopani. 351 drones of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Lobkove, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Novodarivka, and Vasynivka. Six MLRS attacks hit Kamianske, Novodarivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Luhivske. There were 223 artillery strikes on Bilenke, Lobkove, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. There were 56 reports of damage to apartments, private houses, cars, and infrastructure. Five people were killed and nine were injured as a result of enemy attacks.

On 1 June, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled two russian attacks towards Orikhiv.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 1 June, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community 13 times with FPV drones. As a result of the attack, two people were injured and hospitalized in the village of Dniprovske. By morning, both were in moderate condition. Three private houses were damaged. Several passenger cars were also damaged in the village of Dmytrivka due to shelling.

Odesa oblast

As of 6:00 am on 2 June, two enemy carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles were in the Black Sea, with a total salvo of up to 12 missiles. There were three enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, including one Kalibr missile carrier with a total salvo of up to 8 missiles.

Over the past day, 12 vessels serving russian interests passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea, and another 6 ships entered the Sea of Azov.

Kherson oblast

Around 5:00 pm, russians attacked a medical vehicle in downtown Kherson using a drone. As a result of the enemy strike, the car was destroyed by fire. One person was killed, and two others — employees of outpatient clinics — were injured.

Around 11:30 am, the russian army shelled Bilozerka with artillery. Two men were injured in the attack, suffering blast injuries and concussions.

Around 10:30 am, russians shelled Kherson with artillery. A man was injured, receiving blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to his legs.

Around 8:00 am, a resident of Kherson was struck by a russian drone in Tsentralnyi district. The 60-year-old man suffered a mine-blast injury. Additionally, a 59-year-old man sought medical attention after being injured the previous day by a drone-dropped explosive. He sustained a blast injury, concussion, a fractured fibula, and leg wounds

In the morning, russian troops attacked a car in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district with a drone. A 55-year-old man was hospitalized with a mine-blast injury, shrapnel wounds to the back and arms, and thermal burns to the head.

Around 4:00 am, russians shelled Kherson’s Korabelnyi district with artillery. A 40-year-old man was killed. Later, at 4:30 am, they launched another artillery strike. Two women, who were at home during the attack, sustained blast injuries and concussions.

A man injured the previous day in a russian attack on Bilozerka was hospitalized. The 51-year-old local was diagnosed with a blast injury and a concussion.

Yesterday, 1 June, the enemy attacked settlements in Beryslav and Kherson regions. Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Bilozerka, Komyshany, Stanislav, Veletenske, Beryslav, Dudchany, Shevchenkivka, Tiahynka, Odradokamianka, Olhivka, Lvivove, Vesele, and Kozatske were affected. As a result of the attacks, three apartment buildings, seven private homes, three administrative buildings, ten civilian and two emergency service vehicles, a store, gas pipelines, agricultural machinery, two outbuildings, and a garage were damaged. Three people were killed and 19 injured, including two children.

Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces continue to strike enemy positions, fire points, and rear areas. Over the past day, enemy losses included 88 personnel, 9 artillery systems, 26 vehicles and armored units, 8 reconnaissance UAVs (“Supercam” and “Zala”), 3 motorcycles, 2 ATVs, 2 boats, 2 electronic warfare systems, 1 anti-aircraft unit, 5 Starlink antennas, 7 UAV control antennas, 3 communication antennas, 1 UAV ground control station, and 3 fuel and lubricants storage sites. Additionally, 34 shelters and dugouts, 2 firing positions, and 7 observation posts were destroyed.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The Center for Resilience has opened in Starovyzhivska community. The key areas of activity of the institution are primary consultation, psychosocial and other support for families in difficult life circumstances, demobilized military personnel and their family members, families of the deceased and missing, people with disabilities as a result of the war, IDPs, etc.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod City Council reported that Junior Sergeant Eduard Leshchenko, grenade launcher of the Mountain Assault Detachment, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Nadvirna community, the defender’s relatives were presented with a state award (posthumously). Yurii Moldavchuk was awarded with the Combatant’s Cross honorary badge.

Lviv oblast

A tactical training for students was held in Lviv oblast. The training was organized by Volunteer Formation №2 LEV. The training program covered key elements of tactical and pre-medical training. Scenarios of defense and assault of a certain area of ​​territory (a conditionally simulated combat zone) were also practiced.

Lviv oblast sent 21 DJI Mavic 3 Thermal drones to the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment thanks to the Safe Lviv Oblast program, almost UAH 5m were allocated from the regional budget for the purchase of drones.

Rivne oblast

Rehabilitation is being carried out in 23 hospitals in Rivne oblast. Over 3,500 people received rehabilitation assistance in Rivne oblast in the first quarter of this year. Of these, over 1,200 are military personnel.

Ternopil oblast

The 144th Separate Mechanized Brigade received a Hyundai HHY 3050SI inverter generator and a DJI Mavic 3 Thermal quadcopter from Ternopil community.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community sent 12 DJI MAVIC 3E quadcopters worth UAH 1,4m to various units of the Defense Forces from the budget-funded.

Chernivtsi oblast

Serviceman Dmytro Hryhorchuk was awarded with the Defender of the Fatherland state medal. The resident of Velikokuchurivka community serves in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Gitanas Nauseda, President of Lithuania in Vilnius. They discussed sanctions pressure, European integration, and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

In 2022, 70% of international aid to Ukraine came from warehouses, only 30% from the defense industry. In 2024, 67% of weapons are already coming directly from manufacturers, highlighting the need to scale up defense production in Europe.
