It has been the 1256  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

On 2 August, there were 50 combat clashes on the frontline.

Border settlements, namely Zarichchia, Karpovychi, Kliusy, Leonivka in Chernihiv oblast, Progres, Oleksandrivka, Ryasne, Kucherivka, Khodyne, Tovstodubovo, Studenok, Ulanov, Pokrovka in the Sumy oblast, and Lemishchyne in Kharkiv oblast, suffered from shelling from the territory of the russian federation.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian defenders repelled five russian attacks. There were seven air strikes, ten guided aerial bombs, and 126 artillery attacks.

Towards Southern Sloboda, Ukrainian soldiers stopped three enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk, Kamianka and Krasne Pershe, two more clashes are ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the aggressor carried out three assault operations in the vicinity of the settlements of Kupiansk, Stepova Novoselivka and Zahryzove, one clash is still ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked eleven times near the settlements of Karpivka, Hryhorivka and towards the settlements of Cherneschyna, Seredne, Shandryholove. Six clashes are ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, the occupiers made one unsuccessful attempt to advance towards the settlement of Novomarkove.

Towards Toretsk, in the vicinity of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka and Ivanopillia, four enemy offensive actions were stopped, and one more battle is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the invaders made 14 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Popiv Yar, Novoekonomichne, Sukhetske, Rodynske, Lysivka, Pokrovsk, Zvirovo, Udachne, Zelenyi Kut, and Novoukrainka. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and stopped thirteen attacks.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked six times in the vicinity of the settlements of Maliivka, Voskresenka, Novopil and Filiia. Three battle clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of the settlement of Bilogiria.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy dropped an aerial bomb in the vicinity of Novoandriivka.

Towards Kherson, Lvove was under an airstrike.

In other areas of the front, the situation did not undergo significant changes.


 Sumy RMA states that in July, russia carried out almost 2,700 attacks on the oblast. This is more than 800 guided bombs, more than 250 strike UAVs and 52 missile strikes.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

The General Staff reported that towards Southern Sloboda, the Ukrainian military stopped three russian attacks near Vovchansk, Kamianka and Krasne Pershe, and two more attacks are being repelled. 

Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers stormed three times in the vicinity of Kupiansk, Stepova Novoselivka and Zahryzove, one battle is ongoing.

Towards Lyman, russians attacked near Hryhorivka and Cherneshchyna, in total there were 11 assaults.

There were 172 battle clashes. Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy attacked four times in the vicinity of Krasne Pershe and Kamianka. There were ten attacks towards Kupiansk. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions in the vicinity of the settlements of Holubivka, Zahryzove, Lozova and Kindrashivka.

The State Border Guard Service reported that in Kharkiv oblast, border guards destroyed a russian UAV control point, several drone launch sites and struck russian logistics.

According to the chief of staff of the reconnaissance battalion of the 13th brigade of the Charter National Guard, call sign Wolf, the russian army is trying to strike at logistics routes, warehouses and ammunition storage sites, using strike and reconnaissance drones, in particular FPV and Molniya.

Shelling

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community,  reports that a Molniya drone hit the outskirts of the village of Zolochiv at around 2:00 p.m. The UAV fell in open terrain, there were no casualties or damage as a result of the fall.

Two people remain in hospital after yesterday’s attack by an enemy UAV on Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv. One of the injured is in serious condition in the intensive care unit.

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 10 settlements of the oblast were hit by enemy strikes. 13 people were injured as a result of the shelling, including 3 children. One person was killed.

In the city of Kharkiv, 11 people were injured, including 9-year-old, 10-year-old and 5-month-old boys; in the village of Tokarivka, Derhachi community, 62-year-old and 64-year-old men were injured; in the village of A 75-year-old woman died in Lisna Stinka of Kurylivka community.

The enemy attacked Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv with  UAVs.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in the Kharkiv region:

▪️6 unguided aircraft missiles;

▪️5 GABs;

▪️5 UAVs of the Shahed type;

▪️8 UAVs of the Geran-2 type;

▪️1 UAV of the Lancet type;

▪️1 UAV of the Molniya type;

▪️3 FPV drones;

▪️2 UAVs (type to be determined).

Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️In the city of Kharkiv, an apartment building and a car were damaged;

▪️In Kupiansk region, an apartment building (Pidseredne village) and a private house (Andriivka village) were damaged;

▪️In Izium region, a private house was damaged (village Borova), a private house, a post office, a shop, a car (city Balakliia);

▪️In Chuhuiv region, a private house was damaged (village Zemlianyi Yar), warehouses (village Lyman);

▪️In Bohodukhiv region, a private house was damaged (village Ivashky).

Yevhen Rezchenko, the secretary of the city council, reports that after the beginning of a full-scale war Chuhuyiv community recorded four thousand cases of damage to housing as a result of hostilities, and applications for the e-Restoration programme were issued half as many. 

City Mayor Ihor Terekhov says that 179 residential buildings were damaged in Kharkiv due to russian shelling in July. In particular, in apartments and the private sector, 4671 windows were broken and 38 roofs were damaged as a result of hits.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Serhii Chaus, Head of the RMA, reports that as of August 2, Chasiv Yar remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fierce fighting continues. There are 130 civilians in the city, communication is almost non-existent. People live in basements.

The commander of the company of the “Shershni Dovbusha” unmanned aerial systems of the 68th OMBR Vyacheslav, call sign “Fluty”, says that russian DRGs are disguised as civilians in Pokrovsk, mine the roads with drones, attack civilians and try to advance with armored vehicles – the Armed Forces are repelling them.

The General Staff reports that russian troops increased the number of attacks in the Pokrovsk direction in the past day to 66, the day before there were 47 assaults. The russian army attacked in the areas of the settlements of Popiv Yar, Maiak, Razine, Novoekonomichne, Zatyshok, Lysivka, Promin, Zvirovo, Udachne, Dachne and Zelenyi Kut. In the Novopavlivske direction, the Defense Forces repelled 23 attacks. Towards Lyman, there were 20 attacks.

Shelling

A tractor driver died in a field as a result of an attack by an FPV drone on the village of Raiske in the Donetsk region on August 2. The man was 72 years old, said Olena Rudenko, a representative of the regional prosecutor’s office.

One person died in his own house during the shelling of Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, on August 2. Russian troops shelled the city with artillery. Houses and cars were also damaged, said Sergey Gorbunov, head of the MVA.

The Russians shelled the city center – previously, the Geran-2 UAV. According to police, at least 8 hits were recorded. Among the injured were six women aged 22 to 71, as well as a 57-year-old man. 2 residential buildings, a shopping complex, three administrative buildings, a store, and 9 civilian cars were damaged.

At night, russia attacked Sloviansk with two Geran-2 UAVs. A 75-year-old woman was injured. A hotel and 2 apartment buildings were damaged.

On August 1, there were 3,296 attacks on the front line and residential sector.

18 settlements were under fire: the cities of Bilytske, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Sloviansk, the villages of Berestok, Vodianske, Drobysheve, Raihorodok, the villages of Dobropillia, Ivanopillia, Kamianka, Kryva Luka, Nelipivka, Pleshchiivka, and Starovarvarivka.

43 civilian objects were damaged, including 12 residential buildings.

russia killed two civilians in Pokrovsk. In Kamianets-Podilskyi region, two civilians were injured by a Lancet UAV strike, a civilian car was damaged.

One person was injured in each of Bilytske and Vodianske as a result of being hit by enemy FPV drones. One injured in Myrnohrad.

In the village of Dobropillia, the occupiers struck with two Geran-2 UAVs – two people were injured, 2 private houses and 2 non-residential premises were damaged.

russians dropped three GAB-250 bombs on Kostiantynivka – one person was injured, three apartment buildings and three private houses, an infrastructure facility, and an enterprise were damaged.

Kramatorsk was attacked by 9 russian drones of the Gerbera, Geran-2 and Geran-3 type – a civilian was injured, 2 apartment buildings, an infrastructure facility, an enterprise, 4 cars were damaged.

In Raihorodok, two Geran-2 UAVs destroyed a medical facility. In Drobysheve and Kryva Luka, Lyman community, one private house was damaged each.

In Sloviansk, 5 Geran-2 UAVs were hit, damaging a hospital, an enterprise, a non-residential building and a civilian car.

Vadim Liakh, head of Slavyansk RMA says that as a result of a missile strike on a high-rise building in Kyiv on July 31, a family from Sloviansk, Mykyta and Sofia Lamekhova, their 2-year-old son Lev and their unborn child, died. They moved to the capital in 2022 after being evacuated from Sloviansk. The family rented an apartment on the fifth floor of the building where the russian missile hit. In total, 31 people died during the attack, including five children.

Other

Roman Buhaiov, an evacuation worker for the Vostok SOS charity, reports that the number of people wishing to evacuate is increasing in Donetsk oblast due to the intensification of hostilities. People with limited mobility and pensioners are especially in need of help.

Luhansk oblast

Near Dibrova, Ukrainian defenders repelled severalenemy attacks. According to the RMA, in total, the enemy stormed towards Lyman 20 times. Twice russians used rocket artillerythere, 16 times – barrel artillery. Combat missions were carried out by 98 UAVs and FPV drones of the occupiers.

In the territories occupied by the russian federation, 74.5% of people with disabilities, namely 169,000, have not yet had time to undergo a re-examination under russian legislation, which they are required to do by December 31. That is, every 3 out of 4 people with disabilities will be deprived of pension or social benefits by the invaders from January 1. Among the main reasons is the lack of medical personnel to quickly cover such a large number of people. And also – a large number of refusals due to errors in the registers, because of which people with disabilities are forced to undergo a re-examination after clarifying the data.

The so-called “lpr” once again reminded about the upcoming construction of three waste processing complexes. Promises are being made to put them into operation in 2022. The corresponding work on one of them, in Rodakove, is planned to begin next year. The issue of designing facilities in Anthratsyt and Siverskodonetsk is under development, that is, once again postponed for an indefinite period.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The State Emergency Service reported that a fire caused by a russian attack was extinguished on the territory of an industrial facility in the Bilotserkivsky district of Kyiv oblast in the morning. Firefighters worked for more than a day, and only at 05:50 on 2 August were they able to completely extinguish the flames. The fire covered an area of 10,000 square metres. The fire was fought by 106 rescuers and 34 pieces of equipment.

The Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Health informed that after the massive strike on Kyiv by russian troops on the night of 31 July, 25 wounded residents, including three children, remain in hospitals. Ten wounded people are in serious but stable condition. The youngest patient is 5 months old, and Kyiv paediatric neurosurgeons saved her life the day before yesterday.

The head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhovsky reported that Senior Lieutenant Lilia Stepanchuk was killed during a russian missile strike in the Svyatoshinsky district of Kyiv. Lilia worked as an inspector in the Patrol Police Department.

The Dobrobut Medical Center reported that on July 31, neurologist Roman Moskalenko was killed as a result of a missile strike on Kyiv. A russian missile hit a residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where he lived. Roman was 39 years old. He had worked at the clinic for 9 years.

The Regional Military Administration (RMA) reported that, as of today, 592 out of 825 destroyed or damaged objects in Borodianka have already been restored. These include multi-apartment and private residential buildings, educational institutions, administrative buildings, and infrastructure facilities. In addition, solar power stations are being installed on residential buildings and social infrastructure sites. A total of 69 facilities are planned to be equipped, including 63 residential buildings.

In Vorzel, the second phase of the senior care home “Ridni Lyudy” (Dear Ones) has been opened. This important milestone was implemented by the charitable foundation “Do Ukraine With Love” with the support of the Kyiv Regional State Administration. The facility provides shelter to elderly people who lost their homes due to the war, occupation, and active hostilities.

The weekly awareness campaign for prisoners of war and missing persons titled “Don’t Be Silent – Captivity Kills!” took place on Saturday, August 2, in Kyiv. Relatives of soldiers from various brigades gathered on Lavrska Street in the Pecherskyi district.

Zhytomyr oblast

A Mental Health Centre has been opened in Zviahel. The newly established facility aims to become a modern hub for providing information, counselling and support to community members on mental health issues. Its efforts are focused on raising awareness, promoting healthy lifestyles, early detection and prevention of disorders, and expanding access to medical and social services.

Sumy oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that over the past day, eight russian attacks were recorded on Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk fronts. The enemy carried out 14 airstrikes, dropped 24 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 445 artillery attacks, including seven by multiple launch rocket systems.

One child was killed and another injured as a result of a drone strike in Sumy oblast. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the russian army attacked Svessa community on 2 August at around 2:30pm. A 12-year-old boy was killed. Another 13-year-old teenager sustained injuries.

In Sumy region, a Ukrposhta vehicle came under enemy fire. A russian drone attacked the postal van in one of the villages of Mykolaivka community. Both the driver and a postal worker were injured. The vehicle sustained damage.

Over the past day, a woman born in 1959 was injured in Esman community as a result of enemy artillery shelling. In Sumy community, civilian infrastructure was damaged, including a non-residential building, an administrative facility, train carriages, and a passenger vehicle. In Sadivska community, a private car was damaged.

Between the morning of 1 August and the morning of 2 August, russian forces carried out over 70 attacks on 33 settlements across 15 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), VOG grenade drops from UAVs (over 10 strikes), and multiple launch rocket systems (20 strikes), as well as FPV-drones and other UAVs.

Two people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organizations.

Chernihiv oblast

During an air raid alert, a 50-year-old civilian man sustained shrapnel injuries in Chernihiv region. He is currently hospitalized. A drone attack also damaged the roof of a residential building in the same village.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 1 August, russian forces attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy shelled the area by mortars and tube artillery, launched a Lancet-type UAV (1 explosion), used FPV-drones (3 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (6 explosions).

According to Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, since the start of the full-scale war, over 300 meetings have been held with representatives of foreign governments, diplomatic missions, partner regions, businesses, and international foundations. These efforts have resulted in more than 500 diverse cooperation documents. Chernihiv has the highest number of sister cities — 13, followed by Nizhyn with 12, Mensk community with 6, and Ichnia community with 5.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of DOC, says that as a result, a 30-year-old man was injured in Vasylkivka community of Synelnykove region. An outbuilding was destroyed, an administrative building, 5 private homes and a car were damaged. In Mezhova community, two people were injured, 2 private homes and a car were damaged. Until late in the evening and into the morning, the occupiers continued to strike at Nikopol region. They targeted the regional center with artillery and drones. A fire broke out, 2 outbuildings were destroyed by fire, 2 apartment buildings, a private home, an outbuilding, 2 cars and a power line were damaged. About two dozen attacks – the enemy struck with artillery and drones in Nikopol region. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities. There was a fire, a damaged enterprise, 3 private homes and a power line.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Vinnytsia, almost half a hundred cars joined a motorcade in support of captured and missing defenders.

Kirovohrad oblast

In the village of Volodymyrivka, Petrivka community, Oleksandriia region, 39-year-old soldier Petro Smolyarchuk, who was released from captivity, came home. The soldier was returned after three years of russian captivity at the end of May, as part of the “1000 for 1000” exchange. He was captured in April 2022 in Donetsk oblast.

Poltava oblast

In Reshetylivska community, Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Vershinin was paid tribute to. The soldier fell while defending Ukraine from russian troops on July 28 in Donetsk oblast. The soldier was 22 years old.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that 3 people were injured as a result of a russian shelling of a village in Zaporizhzhia oblast. A 66-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were hospitalised following an attack on Zaporizhzhia oblast. The man is in serious condition, while the woman is in moderate condition. Both are receiving all necessary medical assistance. Up to 100 private houses were damaged: windows shattered, roofs and doors destroyed. The strike caused fires in a building, outbuildings and nearby land.

The Regional Military Administration reported that russian forces attacked Malokaterynivka village, damaging private houses.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a russian assault near Kamianske was repelled by the Defence Forces in Orikhiv region. No combat clashes were recorded in Huliaipole region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 1 August, russian troops launched 579 attacks on 11 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. These included 401 drone strikes (mostly FPV drones) targeting Kamianske, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novopavlivka, Mala Tokmachka and Charivne.

Mykolaiv oblast

The RMA reported that on the morning of 2 August, the russian military launched a mortar attack on the coastal area of Ochakiv community. There were no casualties reported.

During the night of 2 August, air defence forces shot down 6 Shahed drones and other types of UAVs over the oblast.

Odesa oblast

Referring to the Ukrainian Navy, as of 6am, no russian warships were detected in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov.

Kherson oblast

Based on the information provided by the RMA, around 6pm, russian forces dropped 2 guided aerial bombs on Kherson. The strikes damaged a vehicle bridge leading to Korabel neighborhood, 3 private houses and 1 high-rise building. There were no casualties reported.

According to the City Military Administration, at midday, russian troops struck residential areas in Korabelnyi district of Kherson. A 50-year-old man suffered a concussion, blast trauma and a closed head injury. He was hospitalised in moderate condition. A 70-year-old man sustained blast trauma and multiple shrapnel wounds.

The RMA reported that at about 5am, russian artillery shelled Bilozirka in Kherson oblast. 2 men were wounded. They were diagnosed with blast injuries, concussions and shrapnel wounds.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that russian forces shelled a house in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A man was killed and his body was recovered from under the rubble by rescuers.

The CMA informed that in the morning, another russian strike hit Korabelnyi district. A 68-year-old woman was killed and a 41-year-old man was hospitalised with blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to his torso and legs. Also, a 79-year-old man was hospitalised in moderate condition with a blast injury and shrapnel wound to his arm.

The Regional Police reported that at night, russian aviation struck Kherson with 2 guided bombs, which hit an industrial zone in Korabel neighborhood. 2 police officers were injured and suffered concussions.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, stated that on 1 August, as a result of shelling, 1 person was killed and 9  injured in Kherson oblast. 2 high-rise buildings, 17 private houses and several vehicles were damaged. The russian forces attacked 34 settlements in the oblast. 

According to the Regional Military Administration, Bekhtery community in Kherson oblast received an ambulance vehicle from Italian volunteers through the PHOENIX organisation. The vehicle will be used to transport medical personnel to areas where internally displaced persons reside.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

2 DJI Mavic 3 Pro quadcopters and 1 DJI Mavic 3T Enterprise (Thermal) quadcopter worth over UAH 380,000 sent at the request of the commander of the Rubizh brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine thanks to the city budget of Volodymyr.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod community received 2 large, low-floor Mercedes-Benz city buses and medical supplies from German partners from Darmstadt.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 150 FPV drones and a Mavic to the 109th Battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade.

Lviv oblast

During July, 10 coordination centers operating in Lviv oblast received 661 applications from IDPs and community residents and provided 1,628 services. The team worked on the following areas: humanitarian aid – 504 applications (food, water, hygiene, medical supplies, medicines); psychological consultations – 191 applications (individual, group, crisis); legal applications – 138 (pensions, lost documents, property, entrepreneurship) and psychosocial services in communities – 28 applications (support for veterans, psychologists, spiritual support).

Rivne oblast

The RMA held a meeting with representatives of the Tellus Conservation company. They discussed the possibility of processing logging waste in Rivne oblast.

Ternopil oblast

Defenders from Ternopil receive assistance for treatment and rehabilitation. During 2024, 295 wounded defenders received UAH 15,000 each.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community has agreed to receive humanitarian aid from the German Government through GIZ in the amount of UAH 38m. This is equipment for cogeneration plants.

Chernivtsi oblast

2 women who were injured in the terrible missile strike on the night of 12 July still remain in Chernivtsi hospital. One of them is in moderate condition. The other is in serious but stable condition.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Donald Trump, US President, announced the dispatch of two nuclear submarines “to the appropriate regions” after provocative statements by dmitry medvedev, deputy chairman of the russian security council. Trump did not specify where exactly these nuclear boats would be deployed. At the same time, he expressed hope that Medvedev’s words would not lead to “unforeseen consequences.”

548 women from Ukraine participated in a study by scientists from Gdansk. Results: refugee women living in Poland have higher blood pressure problems and stress levels than women who remained in Ukraine.
