The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the advance of russian invaders.
On 1 August, there were 70 combat clashes.
Border communities of Seredyna-Buda, Prohres, Chuikivka, Shalyhyne, Bobylivka, Myropilske, Popivka, Khliborob, Sumy oblast; and Timofiivka, Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, one of the three enemy attacks was repelled by Ukrainian defenders, and fighting is currently ongoing.
The enemy also launched five airstrikes, dropping eleven GABs, and carried out 159 attacks, including seven from multiple launch rocket systems.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the invaders attacked Ukrainian positions near Krasne Pershe, and received a worthy rebuff.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to advance three times in the vicinity of the settlement of Holubivka.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out seven attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Karpivka, Yampolivka, Kolodiazi, Zelena Dolyna, Torske and Dibrova. One battle is still ongoing.

The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and have repelled thirty enemy attacks, four clashes are ongoing.
Towards Novopavlivka, the Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Oleksandrohrad, Piddubne, Tovste, Maliivka and Voskresenka.
Towards Huliaipole, the settlement of Bilohiria was subjected to an airstrike by unguided air missiles.
Towards Kherson, the invaders advanced on the positions of Ukrainian units seven times, one battle is still ongoing. The invaders also launched an airstrike on the settlement of Kozatske.
Towards Orikhiv and Huliaipole, there were no enemy offensive actions.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that as a result of the russian attack on Kyiv on the night of July 31, 31 people were killed, including 5 children. Another 159 people were injured to varying degrees of severity, 16 of them were children.

Kharkiv oblast
Front
There were 160 combat clashes in this front area.
Towards Southern Sloboda, Ukrainian troops stopped seven enemy attacks near Vovchansk, Dvorichanske, and Kolodiazne.
Towards Kupiansk, there were three attacks. Ukrainian defenders repelled the enemy’s assault actions in the vicinity of the settlements of Kupiansk, and Petropavlivka.
Shelling
Serhiy Starikov, Head of Shevchenkove RMA, reports that in the village of Shevchenkove, at around midnight on August 1, russian military personnel attacked the building of a children’s psychoneurological boarding school with four Shakheds. According to him, the children were evacuated before the occupation of the village in 2022. The building was significantly damaged.

Kharkiv oblast police reported that a 51-year-old man, who was injured the day before in a drone strike on Kupyansk, died on the morning of August 1 in hospital.
6 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy strikes.
2 people were injured as a result of the shelling.
In the city of Kupiansk, a 51-year-old and a 54-year-old man were injured.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons in the oblast:

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️A private house was damaged in Ruska Lozova village;

▪️in Izium region, a warehouse was damaged (the city of Balakliia).
2,975 apartments and houses were purchased by residents of Kharkiv oblast under the state program eReconstruction. The cost of the purchased housing is over UAH 6.7 billion.
Donetsk oblast
Shelling
Serhii Horbunov, Head of the RMA, reports that the russian army carried out air strikes with guided bombs on the territory of Kostiantynivka community on August 1: one person was injured, a bridge was damaged. In addition, the facade of the funeral service area, the facades of three multi-storey and three private residential buildings, and a gas pipeline were damaged.
After midnight, russians attacked Sloviansk with two Geran-2 UAVs, damaging a hospital, a non-residential building, and a civilian car. According to police, another drone destroyed a medical facility in Raihorodka.
On July 31, there were 3,026 shelling attacks along the front line and residential sector. 13 settlements were under fire: the cities of Dobropillya, Kostyantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Pokrovsk, the village of Sviatohirivka, the villages of Bilokuzminivka, Vesela Hora, Ivanopillia, Kamianka, Lozove, Rubtsi, and Yatskivka. 104 civilian objects were damaged, including 85 residential buildings.

In Kramatorsk, russians killed at least two people, and 11 more civilians were injured. 30 apartment buildings and 13 cars were damaged. Rescue work is ongoing.
The enemy struck Kostiantynivka 11 times with a GAB-250 bomb, drones and artillery. Two residents were injured, 2 apartment buildings and 17 private houses, an outbuilding and a car were destroyed.
Six people were injured in Pokrovsk, an apartment building was damaged. Another person was injured in Sviatohirivka, Pokrovsk region.
In Lyman, an enemy FPV drone damaged a private house. In Lozove, Lyman community, the occupiers dropped a GAB-250 bomb, damaging a private home and an educational institution.
In Ivanopillia, as a result of two KAB-250 bombs hitting it, 27 private houses were damaged. In Belokuzminivka, one house was damaged.
In Dobropillia, russia hit a Geran-2 UAV, 5 private homes were damaged. In Kamianka, an FPV drone damaged two civilian cars.
Two civilians were killed in Pokrovsk on July 30.

Luhansk oblast
Towards Lyman, the russian army launched 30 attacks, and seven towards Siversk. They were supported by powerful artillery, which struck 24 times. The invaders have significantly increased the use of drones, with 116 UAVs and FPV drones reportedly directed at Ukrainian defenders in a single day.
The Kremlin has signed a new law that introduces fines for searching for “extremist” materials online and advertising VPN services. Under the new law, which takes effect on September 1, individuals can be fined five thousand rubles for searching for information on the Internet. For advertising VPNs that allow residents of the occupied territories to bypass the blocking of resources banned by the occupiers, the fine is 500 thousand rubles.
The forest fire near Siverskodonetsk, which threatens the village of Bobrove, is already being extinguished by Cossacks and students. This decision was made by the occupation authorities ruling in Luhansk oblast. The invaders admitted that the “lpr” lacks the forces and means to combat large-scale natural disasters. russia did not come to help this time. Therefore, Cossack corps and youth using only sabers were sent to the forestry area, where the fire is only getting worse due to the strong wind.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy attacked the Kyiv oblast with UAVs at night. In the Bila Tserkva district, the russian attack caused a fire in industrial premises and partial destruction of the administrative building of one of the furniture factories. According to the State Emergency Service, more than 100 rescuers and 34 pieces of equipment, including robotics, were involved in the liquidation of the consequences.
In Kyiv, search operations continued throughout the night at the site of a russian missile strike, which killed 28 people in a residential building in the Sviatoshyn district. During the night and morning, 10 more bodies were recovered from the rubble, including a two-year-old child.
In total, 31 people were killed as a result of the russian shelling of the capital on 31 August, including five children (born in 2007, 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2022). 159 people were wounded, 16 of them children. All are getting the medical help they need.
1 August has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv and oblast.

The Regional Military Administration reported that six headquarters have been set up in four districts of Kyiv since the morning. In addition, assistance is being provided to people by district state administrations. On 31 August, the Solomyanskyi district was most affected by the russian attack. There, 101 houses were damaged, 2,822 windows broken, and 20 roofs in need of repair.

In the Sviatoshyn district, a russian missile destroyed an entire entrance to a high-rise building. Other locations have also been affected. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the residential building on V. Makukha Street suffered the most damage — its 870 m² roof was completely destroyed, and more than 175 windows broken. Roofers have already removed the damaged structures using a mobile crane. The gas supply has been temporarily cut off. Cold water is available in 80% of apartments. The inspection is ongoing. About 120 window openings have already been closed, and about 60 cubic metres of debris removed.
In the Holosiivskyi district, 44 houses and 4 educational institutions have been damaged. Gas supply is still being restored in the houses. Over 40 cubic metres of debris have already been removed. 116 applications for financial assistance have been received from residents.

On the night of 31 July, the headquarters of the Veteranka movement was damaged as a result of a russian missile attack on Kyiv. The ceiling collapsed, pipes burst, windows were shattered, and electrical wiring caught fire. The office premises, warehouse, and workshop where women’s military uniforms are sewn and sent free of charge to female military personnel at the front suffered the most damage. The workshop’s work has been temporarily suspended due to the damage.
The Alexander Dovzhenko National Film Studio was damaged as a result of the rocket attack on Kyiv. During the rocket strike on 31 July, the studio’s production facilities and part of the hotel were damaged. The blast wave shattered about 90 windows.
Zhytomyr oblast
The religious community of the village of Zarubyntsi decided to leave the Moscow Patriarchate and join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). The community reps filed the paperwork on 31 July at the Zhytomyr-Ovruch Diocese of the OCU. The decision was made by the parishioners of the Holy Protection Church after a general meeting.
Sumy oblast
The General Staff reported that over the past day, Ukrainian defenders repelled sixteen russian attacks on Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk front. Enemy forces carried out seven airstrikes, dropped a total of 17 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 331 artillery attacks, including four by multiple launch rocket systems.
On 1 August, the enemy attacked the railway station in Sumy by two drones. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, windows in train No. 45 Kharkiv–Uzhhorod were damaged as a result of the russian strike. No passengers were injured; railway workers promptly relocated them to other carriages. The train continued its journey on schedule.
The Regional Military Administration informed that as a result of russian attacks on energy infrastructure in Sumy oblast, some consumers in Sumy regions were left without electricity. Specialists are working on restoration.
In the morning, russian forces shelled a village in Esman community, located in close proximity to the border with russia. As a result of the attack, a 66-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds.
During the day, from the morning of 31 July to the morning of 1 August, russian forces carried out 85 attacks on 41 settlements across 17 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), dropped VOG grenades from UAVs (up to 10 strikes), and also launched attacks by FPV-drones and other UAVs.
As a result of russian attacks in the oblast, the following damage was reported:
- in Mykolaivka rural community – a utility structure;
- in Sumy community – civilian infrastructure facilities;
- in Shalyhyne community – a private residential house, a garage, a vehicle, and a civilian infrastructure facility;
- in Nedryhailiv community – a private residential house.
Over the past day, three people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection of Sumy Regional Military Administration, since the start of the full-scale war, environmental damage in Sumy oblast has exceeded UAH 15.4 b. Soil, air, water, and forests have all been affected.
- In Konotop region, ecological losses amounted to nearly UAH 9b;
- In Okhtyrka region – UAH 1.7b;
- In Shostka region – over UAH 670m;
- In Sumy region – over UAH 580m;
- In Romny region – UAH 20m.
Losses in Sumy community total UAH 3.5b.
Damage to forest resources in the oblast exceeded UAH 33 m., and harm to atmospheric air was estimated at UAH 26 m.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 31 July, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. A total of 39 explosions were recorded across ten settlements. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (3 explosions), artillery strikes (5 explosions), launched unguided aerial rockets (8 explosions), used FPV-drones (10 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (12 explosions). In Mykolaivka village, Semenivka community, a non-residential building caught fire as a result of russian strikes.
According to the City Council, in Mena, the street named after Hryhorii Kochur will be renamed in honor of fallen pilot and native of the city, Oleksandr Myhulia. Flight unit commander Captain Oleksandr Myhulia died at the age of 27 while carrying out a combat mission on 12 August 2024. According to the tactical aviation brigade in Vasylkiv, the pilot had dedicated his life to military service in the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2014. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Oleksandr completed over 160 combat sorties.
In July, a veterans’ space began operating in Borzna. It hosts trainings, educational sessions, meetings with psychologists, and provides consultations from a veterans’ support specialist and a medical professional from the city hospital. The same building also houses the Social Services Center and the Resilience Center — a hub dedicated to supporting people’s mental health.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reports that as a result of the russian attack, Vasylkivka, Ukrainska and Mykolaivska communities of Synelnykove region were affected.
A 35-year-old woman was injured. Fires broke out. An educational institution, a post office, agricultural enterprises and a private home were damaged. They also hit Pokrovske community with GABs. A house was hit. Previously, children were injured. The occupiers continued to hit Nikopol region. They hit again with drones and artillery. They targeted the district center, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities. A 25-year-old man was injured. A fire broke out, a private house, a car and infrastructure were damaged. According to updated information, another house was damaged due to yesterday’s drone strike in Nikopol.
During the day, the occupiers hit Nikopol region about two dozen times with drones and artillery. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Pokrovske and Marhanets communities.
Fires broke out, 4 apartment buildings, an educational institution, 11 private homes, 4 outbuildings, a private enterprise, a car and a gas pipeline were damaged. According to updated information, a utility company was damaged in Marhanets community due to a night attack.
Kirovohrad oblast
A 50-year-old serviceman Volodymyr Protasov, who was released from russian captivity, returned to the village of Volodymyrivka, Katerynivka community. He was in captivity for three years. The soldier was returned to Ukraine during an exchange on June 20, 2025.
Poltava oblast
Poltava oblast paid tribute to serviceman Valerii Khoroshko. The man was killed in action while performing a combat mission in Kursk oblast of the russian federation.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, says that in the oblast, defense forces shot down 6 russian UAVs.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
On 31 July, the occupiers launched 614 attacks on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 9 airstrikes on Malokaterynivka, Veselyanka, Orikhiv, Malynivka, and Bilohiria. 441 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Kamianske, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Seven MLRS attacks targeted Malokaterynivka, Veselianka, Huliaipole, and Shcherbaky. There were 157 artillery strikes on Kamianske, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Forty-five reports were received about the destruction of apartments and private houses. One person was killed, and five were injured due to enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia region.
On 31 July, twelve fires occurred in the Zaporizhzhia oblast due to russian shelling. In particular, rescuers saved a 64-year-old man from a fire in Malokaterynivka; he was hospitalized.
On 31 July, russian troops attacked employees of the Proliska charitable foundation with an FPV drone in Orikhiv. The UAV exploded near the foundation’s team, but no one was injured.
The General Staff reported that on 31 July, russians attacked twice towards Orikhiv. The occupiers tried to advance towards Kamianske and Mali Shcherbaky.
Mykolaiv oblast
On the night of 1 August, air defense forces shot down or suppressed eight enemy Shahed-type UAVs over Mykolaiv oblast. As a result of combat activity and falling debris, a grass fire broke out in Voznesensk region. No casualties were reported.
On 31 July, at 12:15 pm, the enemy carried out an artillery strike on Kutsurub community. As a result of the attack, a grass fire broke out, and three private houses and outbuildings were damaged in the village of Dmytrivka.
Also yesterday, russian forces attacked the waters of Ochakiv community with an FPV drone and conducted artillery shelling. No casualties were reported.
The head of Shevchenkove territorial community, Oleh Pylypenko, reported that after three years of searching, the bodies of tortured brothers from Mykolaiv oblast were found. In March 2022, russian soldiers abducted brothers Yevhen and Oleksandr Revak from Liubomyrivka. Three years later, their bodies were found in Chornobaivka, and DNA testing confirmed their identities. It was revealed that the brothers were tortured and killed by russian servicemen in March 2022.
Odesa oblast
More than UAH 12 million was allocated to support the Defense Forces at an extraordinary session of Odesa City Council. According to Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov, this refers to unscheduled funding within city programs supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine, security forces, and Territorial Defense. The funds will be used to supply units currently carrying out combat missions.
Kherson oblast
At approximately 06:40, russian forces shelled Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with artillery. As a result of the attack, a woman was killed. She is survived by three young children.
An elderly resident of Antonivka was hospitalized after coming under russian shelling at 14:00. The 78-year-old woman suffered a blast injury and multiple shrapnel wounds.
Two residents of Bilozerka who were injured in a Russian shelling on 29 July sought medical help today. According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, both were diagnosed with blast injuries, concussions, and traumatic brain injuries.
A man injured in the shelling of Dniprovskyi district of Kherson on 30 July was also hospitalized. The 67-year-old Kherson resident sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his arm.
Another man from Antonivka was hospitalized after being injured in a russian drone attack the previous morning. He suffered a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to the leg.
Yesterday, the russian army attacked Antonivka, Beryslav, Bilozerka, Vesele, Virivka, Havrylivka, Dniprovske, Zelenivka, Zarichne, Zolota Balka, Ivanivka, Kizomys, Lvove, Mykilske, Mylove, Mykhailivka, Novodmytrivka, Novotiahynka, Novoraisk, Olhivka, Osokorivka, Poniativka, Prydniprovske, Romashkove, Sablukivka, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Tokarivka, Tomyna Balka, Tiahynka, Khreshchenivka, Shyroka Balka, and the city of Kherson. The shelling damaged one apartment building and eight private homes, critical infrastructure facilities, an administrative building, three garages, two vehicles, and two utility structures. Six people were injured due to russian aggression.
According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 1 August, the enemy launched seven assaults on Ukrainian positions on the Prydniprovskyi front; one battle is still ongoing. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one enemy attack in the past day. russian forces lost 29 personnel, 9 artillery systems, 5 radar stations, 21 pieces of armored and automotive equipment, 1 motorcycle, 8 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs, 6 reconnaissance UAVs (Zala, Supercam, and Orlan-10), 5 communication antennas, and 3 generators. Additionally, 58 shelters, 1 field ammunition depot, 6 fuel depots, and 1 checkpoint were destroyed or damaged.
Sappers discovered and neutralized 1,448 explosive devices on the right bank of Kherson Oblast over the past week. Demining teams cleared 132.7 hectares of land, 1,031.5 hectares of fields, 0.6 hectares of water bodies, 95 facilities, and 90.1 hectares of forest belts.
The Caritas-Kherson team delivered drinking water to Myroliubivka, where there is an acute shortage. Thousands of bottles of clean water were distributed. This aid was made possible with the financial support of Caritas Ukraine and Caritas Internationalis as part of the Emergency Appeal project.

Defenders Volodymyr Parashchyshyn, Andrii Ruzhyl, Volodymyr Mykhailiuk, Mykola Hembych, and Ihor Vasyliv from Strii oblast were awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).
Rivne oblast
A forum on the development of rehabilitation care was held in Rivne oblast. It brought together heads of medical institutions from Rivne, Volyn, Zhytomyr and Lviv oblasts.
Ternopil oblast
The RMA reported that over 500 Ukrainian books from Ternopil oblast were sent to children in Moldova through the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
The RMA reported that children from the oblast whose parents are defending Ukraine, as well as children of prisoners of war, missing persons, and disabled veterans, are currently resting in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship of the Republic of Poland.
