It has been the 1257  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 3 July, there were 116 combat clashes on the frontline. Ukrainian defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the lines and destroying his plans.

The following settlements were affected by russian artillery shelling: Yastrubshchyna, Velyka Pysarivka, Sorokyne, Starykove, Brusky, Bila Bereza, Khliborob, Pokrovka, Babyne, Tovstodubove, Bachivsk, Prohres, Stara Huta in Sumy oblast; Timofiivka in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven russian attacks, and three more combat clashes are ongoing. The enemy launched seven airstrikes, dropped a total of 17 guided aerial bombs and carried out 143 artillery shells, including five from a multiple launch rocket system.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy attacked Ukrainian troops’ positions three times in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Fiholivka, and Krasne Pershe.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled seven enemy assaults in the vicinity of Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Nova Kruhliakivka.

Towards Lyman, the aggressor attacked Ukrainian troops’ positions 13 times near Karpivka, Torske, Hryhorivka, Seredne, Cherneschyna, and Shandryholove. Two clashes are ongoing.

Towards Siversk, Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack, and three more enemy attempts to advance near Hryhorivka, Serebrianka, and Siversk are still ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, the Ukrainian military repelled four enemy attacks near Markove, Bila Hora and Stupochky.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian troops’ positions nine times in the vicinity of Rusyn Yar, Shcherbynivka, and Katerynivka.

Towards Pokrovsk, there were 38 combat clashes in the vicinity of the settlements of Popiv Yar, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Horikhove, in the vicinity of Novoukrainka, Novopidhorodne, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman. Three combat clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Novopavlivka, the occupiers tried to break through 14 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Zaporizhzhia, Novokhatske, Voskresenka, Zelene Pole, Myrne, Maliivka, Temyrivka, Novopil and towards the settlement of Levadne. One combat clash is still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, Orikhiv and Kherson, there were no combat clashes. The enemy carried out airstrikes on the settlements of Kherson, Novoandriivka and Lvove.

Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of combat contact and in its rear.


President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy informs that Ukraine is making lists for the exchange of 1,200 people with russia. 

The Air Force reports that on the night of August 3, russia attacked with 83 air attack vehicles. Namely: 76 UAVs, an Iskander-M ballistic missile, 5 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles and an X-22 cruise missile.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Over the past day, 138 combat clashes were recorded.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the Ukrainian military stopped ten russian attacks near Vovchansk, Kamianka, Vovchanski Khutory, and Krasne Pershe.

Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers stormed five times. The Ukrainian military stopped ten russian attacks near  Kupiansk, Stepova Novoselivka, Nova Kruhlyakivka, and Zagryzove.

Shelling

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and nine settlements in the Kharkiv Oblast were hit by enemy strikes.

Four people, including a child, were injured as a result of the shelling.

In the city of Chuhuiv, women aged 31, 35 and 54 were injured; in the village of Ivano-Shyichyne, Bohodukhiv community, a 6-year-old girl was injured. As a result of ammunition explosions, one person was killed and two injured.

A 43-year-old man was killed in the village of Eskhar, Novopokrovsk community; a 67-year-old man was injured in the village of Slatine, Derhachi community; and a 75-year-old man was injured in the city of Izyum.

The enemy attacked with two UAVs in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast:

▪️3 GAB;

▪️21 UAVs of the Geran-2 type;

▪️1 Lancet-type UAV;

▪️2 Molniya-type UAVs;

▪️2 FPV drones;

▪️1 UAV (type to be determined).

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️in the city of Kharkiv, a non-residential building was damaged;

▪️in the Kupiansk region, a private house, a garage (Kupiansk), and a warehouse (Sumskoe village, Prikolotne village) were damaged;

▪️in the Izyum region, 15 private houses and 2 fire engines (Balakliya, Novoplatonivka) were damaged;

▪️In the Chuhuiv region, two private houses (Chuhuiv) and a non-residential building (Velyka Babka) were damaged.

▪️In the Bohodukhiv region, a car (Ivano-Shyichyne) was damaged.

Donetsk oblast

Shelling

On 2 August, the police recorded 2,888 strikes. Sixty-nine civilian objects were destroyed, including 16 residential buildings.

The russian army struck Kostyantynivka with aerial bombs, artillery and drones, killing two people and injuring one. Three houses, two administrative buildings, an educational institution, a workshop, and cars were damaged.

The russians fired on Siversk with barrel artillery, killing one civilian, injuring another, and damaging a house.

A woman was killed in Pokrovsk as a result of enemy strikes. Another civilian was killed in Raiyske as a result of a drone attack.

The russian troops attacked Sloviansk with UAVs and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems, injuring two people and damaging an apartment building, a hotel, a dormitory, an administrative building, and non-residential premises.

The invaders sent 13 Geran-2 UAVs to Druzhkivka, injuring seven residents and damaging two houses, a shopping centre, three administrative buildings, a shop, and nine civilian vehicles.

Luhansk oblast

In an attempt to advance, the russians made 19 assault attempts in the Lyman direction. They fired 18 times with barrel artillery. They used multiple launch rocket systems twice. The invaders directed 110 UAVs and FPV drones towards Ukrainian defenders.

Near Luhansk, in Oleksandrivsk, a landfill caught fire. Solid household waste has been transported there for about 50 years. The facility should have already been mothballed. However, it is being used until the construction of other landfills is completed, which the so-called ‘LNR’ expects to happen starting in 2022. However, the implementation of the projects announced by russia has not yet begun.

The russians plan to fill 9,000 vacant positions in the cultural sector in the russian Federation and the occupied territories of Ukraine with incentive payments until 2030. Additional funds are promised to those who agree to work for five years in the specified positions in villages and small towns. It should be noted that in the so-called ‘LNR’, most rural clubs have been closed by the invaders, and some have been destroyed by the russian army.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports that as a result of the russian massive attack on the capital on the night of July 31, 2025, the warehouse of the Lithuanian volunteer organization Blue/Yellow was destroyed. This warehouse was used for temporary storage of humanitarian aid from Lithuania before being sent to the front. It is noted that the warehouse was completely destroyed as a result of being hit by a Russian drone. Nearby buildings were also damaged.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that two russian servicemen have been suspected of killing a civilian and abusing civilians during the occupation of Bucha in Kyiv oblast. According to the investigation, in March 2022, a sniper scout found a 45-year-old civilian man in an apartment and shot him in the head with a Vintorez sniper rifle. Another soldier from the same military unit, a senior sapper rifleman, saw a resident of Bucha on the street. It is noted that he fired a burst of fire from his machine gun for no reason, laughing loudly and humiliating the frightened woman.

According to KyivZoo, four servals, which were evacuated from the front-line Kurakhove in Donetsk oblast in 2023, have found shelter in the capital’s zoo. Now they have a new home. This is the next stage of the rehabilitation of the first pair of animals – Osiris and Sekhmet – after stabilization of the condition, treatment and adaptation.

A fishing competition among war veterans – The Circle of the Indestructible – was held in Obukhivskyi district. Almost fifty veterans, as well as members of their families, took part. This is an informal veteran retreat, where fishing has become not a goal, but a tool for recovery, communication, psychological support, and adaptation to peaceful life.

A sports camp and wheelchair rugby competition for veterans will be held in Kyiv on August 25-29, and on August 30-31 – All-Ukrainian competitions, which will become a real celebration of strength, endurance and team spirit. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr City Center for Social Services for Families, Children and Youth reports that a year ago, a free 24-hour service “Veteran Telephone Line” began operating in Zhytomyr community. During this period, 3,719 people used its services. Among them were both city residents and residents of other communities in the region and Ukraine, as well as defenders from the front line. 

Sumy oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk front, eight russian attacks were recorded. Over the past day, the enemy carried out 14 airstrikes, dropped 24 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 445 artillery attacks, including seven by multiple launch rocket systems.

On 3 August, russian forces attacked Putyvl community using combat drones. According to the Regional Military Administration, at least 16 private homes were damaged — windows shattered, roofs destroyed. Vehicles were also affected.

Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that at around 2:30pm on 2 August, a drone strike on Svesa community claimed the life of Kyrylo Holovko, a student of Svesa school. The 12-year-old boy died from his injuries before medics arrived. Another 13-year-old boy was wounded by shrapnel and hospitalized. Both children were near the impact site.

One child was killed and six people injured as a result of russian shelling over the past day. In Sumy oblast, damage was reported in: Mykolaiv rural community — a Ukrposhta service vehicle, a passenger car, the village cultural center building, and a utility structure; Sumy community — a civilian infrastructure facility; Druzhba community — an apartment building.

Between the morning of 2 August and the morning of 3 August 2025, russian forces carried out 110 attacks targeting 43 settlements across 16 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 30 strikes), drone-dropped VOG grenades (up to 30 strikes), and multiple launch rocket systems (10 strikes), as well as FPV-drones and other UAVs.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, in July, nearly 2,700 russian attacks were recorded in Sumy oblast, resulting in the deaths of 23 civilians and injuries to over 140 people. Over the month, the enemy launched more than 800 strikes by guided aerial bombs, over 250 drone attacks, and 52 missile strikes. Nearly 200 private homes and more than 30 apartment buildings were damaged.

Over the past week, 57 residents — including 8 children — evacuated from dangerous areas of Sumy oblast. Most were from Bilopillia, Seredyna-Buda, Vorozhba, Krasnopillia, and Svesa communities, which, like other border areas of Sumy oblast, remain under regular enemy shelling. There are over 400 available places in the transit centers in Sumy and Shostka.

Sumy Regional Police announced that recently, ‘White Angels’ police unit evacuated a 61-year-old man from Sumy community who survived a direct hit by a russian shell on his home. His village is located just a few kilometers from the frontline. Officers found him severely exhausted, with no belongings — everything had burned down during the latest shelling. He was transported to a safer area.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 2 August, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. Around 80 strikes were recorded. The enemy used automatic grenade launchers (15 explosions), mortars (22 explosions), and tube artillery (18 explosions), launched Shahed drones (2 explosions), a Molniya-type UAV (1 explosion), FPV-drones (6 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (13 strikes).

On 31 July, the documentary film Chernihiv Shield was screened in Nizhyn. The film tells the story of the defensive operation in Chernihiv oblast during February–April 2022, through the experiences of defenders, volunteers, and local residents. The director, Volodymyr Berezynskyi — a Chernihiv native, showman, and organizer of the intellectual game National QUIZ — joined the military from the first days of the full-scale invasion and took part in the defense of Chernihiv.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

 Mykola Lukashuk, head of DOC, reports that as a result of the russian attack, there is damage in Synelnykove region. Infrastructure was damaged in the district center. A building was burning in Mezhova community. Yesterday evening and at night, the occupiers continued to strike at Nikopol region. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities. 2 private houses and an outbuilding were damaged.

During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region about two dozen times. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities with drones and artillery. Fires broke out, 4 apartment buildings, a kindergarten, enterprises, equipment, a market, a shop, administrative buildings, a private house, a car, a greenhouse and a power line were damaged. They also attacked Malomykhailivka community of Synelnykove region with drones. The occupiers also hit Novopavlivka community with GABs.

Kirovohrad oblast

The action “Become the voice of prisoners” was held in Kropyvnytskyi. Its goal is to remind society of the importance of honoring the dead and returning prisoners and missing persons home.

Poltava oblast

In Poltava oblast, participants in hostilities will be involved in teaching the course “Defense of Ukraine”. Currently, almost 350 educators teach this subject in schools, more than 20 of whom are veterans.

Cherkasy oblast

Igor Taburets,  Head of Cherkasy RMA, reports that at night, the defense forces shot down 8 russian UAVs. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, russian forces attacked emergency responders in Huliaipole. The rescuers came under attack while extinguishing a burning car. A fire truck was damaged. There were no injuries reported.

Vladyslav Voloshyn, Spokesperson for the Southern Defence Forces, russian troops have not fully captured Kamianske. Ukrainian forces are conducting operations to regain positions within the settlement. He clarified that russian troops destroyed Ukrainian positions inside Kamianske, prompting a tactical withdrawal to the outskirts. Currently, efforts are underway to restore control.

The State Emergency Service reported that fires broke out in Huliaipole, Orikhiv and Preobrazhenka on 2 August as a result of russian shelling. Residential houses and outbuildings were on fire.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 1 russian attack was repelled by Ukrainian forces in Orikhiv region, where russian troops attempted to advance near Kamianske. No offensive actions were recorded in Huliaipole region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that a 56-year-old man was injured during a russian strike on Zaporizhzhia oblast.

On 2 August alone, russian forces launched 517 attacks on 16 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. These included 366 drone strikes (mostly FPV drones) on Stepnohirsk, Kamianske, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Huliaipole.

Mykolaiv oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that russian forces launched an air-to-surface missile strike on Mykolaiv, completely destroying several houses. As of the morning, a 57-year-old and a 74-year-old man remain hospitalised in moderate condition, while a 32-year-old man received outpatient care. A total of 9 people sought medical assistance.

Also, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community 3 times on 2 and 3 August by FPV drones. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

Referring to the Ukrainian Navy, as of the morning of 3 August, no russian warships were detected in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov.

Kherson oblast

Based on the information provided by the RMA, at around 5am, russian troops shelled Bilozirka. An 80-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man suffered blast injuries, concussions and traumatic brain injuries while in their yard.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that russian forces again attacked the bridge leading to Korabelnyi district in Kherson. Details on casualties or damage are still being verified.

According to the State Emergency Service, yesterday evening, russian troops struck residential areas of Kherson with guided aerial bombs, sparking fires that simultaneously engulfed 5 houses. Firefighters extinguished the flames.

The RMA reported that at approximately 5:30am, the russian military targeted Korabelnyi district of Kherson. A 52-year-old woman suffered a concussion, blast trauma and a closed head injury. She received medical assistance.

The CMA informed that later that morning, russian forces shelled Kherson again. A 69-year-old man sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to the head and leg and a 21-year-old woman was wounded, suffering a blast injury and shrapnel wound to her right hand.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, stated that on 2 August, russian forces shelled 30 settlements in Kherson oblast. 2 people were killed and 10 injured. Damage was reported to 10 high-rise buildings, 15 private houses, a vehicle bridge, a gas pipeline and vehicles.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

24 psychological training sessions will be held in Lutsk and the region to help specialists restore resources, develop self-support skills, and prevent secondary traumatization that they experience while working with war victims. The project will last for 6 months.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 50 bags with grocery sets and loaves of bread. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (1,018 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Spletinnia Kosice, the religious community of the Reformed Church of Beregovo (Bulcha), Valentyn Stefanyo and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The 24th Brigade of the Sapsan Unit received 3 antennas for electronic warfare and 50 drones from Ivano-Frankivsk community.

Lviv oblast

30 family members of military personnel from Lviv oblast set off on a journey to the Middle Ages as part of the Travel Therapy project. This time, the place of power was the Tustan historical and cultural reserve, where the Living History Camp is underway.

Rivne oblast

915 times the air raid siren sounded in Rivne oblast since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Summarizing July: 32 alarms (in June there were 18); the longest – 9 July (4 h 52 min); the shortest – 13 min (14 July); on 5, 21 and 28 July the alarm was announced 3 times; the maximum number of days without sirens was 2, such a silence regime occurred 3 times during the month. 

Ternopil oblast

Servicemen will receive UAH 10,000 each to purchase the necessary equipment and technical means. Since the beginning of 2025, 2,385 servicemen from Ternopil community have already received such support.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that 66 participants in the russian-Ukrainian war will receive 50% compensation for the cost of studying at universities.

Chernivtsi oblast

A farewell ceremony was held in Hlybochko for Mykhailo Rebi, soldier of the Military Unit A2582, who was killed defending Ukraine from russian occupiers.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Great Britain announced new sanctions against russia, which are intended to limit its revenues from the transportation and sale of oil. Britain has added 135 oil tankers to the sanctions list, which are part of the so-called shadow fleet, which russia uses to secretly transport oil.

Ursula von der Leyen, Head of the European Commission, announced that the EU has planned €100bn for Ukraine in the budget for 2028-2034.
