War in Ukraine today: latest news, 01 June, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 829th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 7 pm:   

The number of combat engagements along the entire frontline increased to 73 since the beginning of the day. Most of the fighting is towards Pokrovsk. At the same time, during the day, the invaders kept trying to push our defences towards Siversk and Kurakhove.

The invaders continue to terrorise Kharkiv oblast with air strikes from their territory. Specifically, from Belgorod (russia), the aggressor launched one UAV at Kharkiv and Velyki Prokhody respectively, three UAVs at Ruska Lozova, another UAV at Piatykhatky and Chaikivka, and eight unguided aerial missiles at Vetarynarne.  

Kupiansk axis: the number of combat engagements increased to 4. Two attacks were successfully repelled by our troops, two more are ongoing near Druzheliubivka. Here, russian invaders are also actively using guided aerial bombs. Specifically, Druzheliubivka was hit twice by UAVs and Raihorodok was hit by one UAV. Enemy aviation attacked Tobaivka and Synkivka with unguided missiles, firing seven and 14 missiles accordingly.

Siversk axis: the number of combat engagements increased to 10. Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack, 9 are still ongoing. The situation is under control.  

Kramatorsk axis: russian troops attacked with the support of aviation. The Defence Forces repelled 4 russian assault actions.

Pokrovsk axis: the situation remains tense. There have been 23 combat engagements since the beginning of the day. The enemy is trying to push through our defences with the support of aviation. Our troops repelled 14 attacks, 9 are still ongoing.

Kurakhove axis: the total number of attacks increased to 19. The Ukrainian defence forces successfully repelled 13 russian assaults. Another 6 battles are ongoing near Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka and Vodiane, where the enemy is actively using aircraft.

Vremivka axis: Ukrainian troops repelled 4 russian attacks.  

Prydniprovskyi axis: there were three combat engagements near Krynky since the beginning of the day. The enemy used aircraft.

The situation in other sectors remained unchanged.

Units of the Defence Forces are courageously repelling enemy attempts to advance into the depths of Ukraine’s territory, inflicting fire damage on the invaders and exhausting them along the entire frontline.


The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 548 Ukrainian children have been killed. More than 1,300 children have been injured of varying severity.

Mykola Kuleba, Founder of the Save Ukraine organisation, informed that 5 orphans have been returned home. In October 2022, russia took the children to Crimea and then to Krasnodar territory, from where they were rescued and taken to a safer territory, Georgia.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

At around 5am, the invaders attacked Balakliia, Izium region. At the time of the missile strike, there were 12 people in two houses: 4 adults and 8 children aged 2 to 17. A fire broke out. All the victims are in moderate condition, one child has an acute stress reaction. The victims were taken to hospital. There is a partial power cut in the town.

The press service of Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that the youngest boy injured in Balakliia is 2.9 years old. According to the press service, a total of two girls aged 4 and 9, six boys, the oldest of whom is 17, two 35-year-old women, and 32- and 38-year-old men were injured in the city.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Kharkiv oblast, russians have killed 92 children and injured 332 others.

Vitalii Karabanov, Head of Balakliia CMA, stated that the house, where the injured lived, as a result of the hit in Balakliia almost completely burned down. Debris and the blast wave damaged the garage and outbuildings nearby. According to him, neighbouring houses also suffered damage to their roofs and windows.

According to preliminary information, at 1:16pm, the invaders struck a forest belt in Kharkiv region with a guided missile. Information about the damage is being established. At the moment, there are no casualties.

The press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that more than 3.7 hectares of forest are on fire in Kharkiv oblast. The fire has covered an area of more than 3,700 hectares of forest. Most of the fires were started by russians. So far, 6 out of 9 fires have been localised over an area of about 2,300 hectares.

Oleksandr Hololobov, Head of Mala Danylivka community, said that one person was injured as a result of a shell hit in Chaikivka village, Kharkiv region. According to him, gas supplies may be cut off in the village due to the strike.

As of now, 9 people have been killed as a result of the hostile shelling of Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv. Among them are three women aged 39, 68 and 86 and four men aged 52, 64, 41 and 28. This afternoon, rescuers found the bodies of two more victims. Their identities are being established.

Rescuers continue to work at the site of a five-storey building in Novobavarskyi district. According to Tetiana Tsybulnyk, Head of the district administration, 41 buildings were damaged as a result of the russian missile attack. 4 people from the destroyed five-storey building asked to be moved to dormitories. The rescue and search operation has been going on for almost a day.

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation will finance the reconstruction of the Factor-Druk printing house, which was destroyed by a russian missile strike on 23 May. It is planned to restore the printing house in 4-5 months so that our children can read textbooks in Ukrainian and publishers can continue to print books.

The de-occupied communities of Kharkiv oblast have received 20 vehicles for medical needs. The new vehicles were purchased with funds from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and the Government of Japan. The cars will be sent to the de-occupied communities for the needs of hospitals.

Serhii Bolvinov, Head of Kharkiv police investigation department, reported that the Centre for Searching for Persons Disappeared in Special Circumstances is operating in Kharkiv.

Yesterday at 8:29pm, Yurchenkove village in Chuhuiv region was hit. A private house, a garage and an outbuilding were damaged as a result of the shelling by an UAV.

At 5:58pm, a private house burned down in Kozacha Lopan village, Kharkiv region, as a result of a UAV hit.

At 4:37pm, a car was on fire as a result of a UAV shelling. Another car and a garage door were also damaged.

At 4:30pm, a house was damaged as a result of hostile shelling in Cherkaski Tyshky village, Kharkiv region.

At 2pm, 2 men were injured as a result of shelling by the KABs of a farm in Shestakove village, Chuhuiv region. 32 animals on the farm were killed.

At 1pm, a private house and outbuildings were damaged as a result of hostile shelling of Ruska Lozova village, Kharkiv region.

At 1pm, 7 houses were damaged as a result of shelling in Bilyi Kolodiaz village, Chuhuiv region.

At 10:30am, a house was destroyed and one person injured as a result of the shelling by the KAB of Vovchansk.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy continues to use guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian settlements from the territory of the russian federation.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attempted to storm the positions of the Defence Forces 10 times. Fighting continues near Petropavlivka Berestove and Druzheliubivka. The situation is under control.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, said that a total of 11,436 people have been evacuated from Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv regions.

Donetsk oblast

The Khortytsia operational-strategic group reported that russian troops lost more than 25,000 servicemen, over 400 tanks and 800 armoured vehicles in eastern Ukraine over the past month.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ukrainian troops are trying to hold back the advance of the russian army towards Pokrovsk. Since the beginning of the day, the Defence Forces have repelled one russian attack on the eastern front and 11 more battles are ongoing.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Management of Prisoners of War reported that Mariupol defender Dmytro Zhynhalov returned from russian captivity. The marine returned from captivity with his mother, they spent almost 20 days getting to Ukraine through several borders.

Anastasiia Miedviedieva, Spokeswoman of the regional Prosecutor’s Office, said that a 48-year-old woman was injured as a result of russian shelling of Kostiantynivka on the afternoon of 1 June. The condition of the injured woman is critical and she is being operated on.

Vadym Liakh, Head of Sloviansk City Military Administration reported about the attack. Enemy shells hit the industrial zone. There were no casualties or destruction as a result of the strike.

Selydove CMA stated that one person was injured in the morning shelling of Ukrainsk. The russian army probably dropped a guided aerial bomb on the town.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 1 June is as follows:

Towards Pokrovsk, Paraskoviivka, Maksymilianivka and Elyzavetivka of Marinka community were shelled. In Kurakhove community, 2 houses in Illinka were destroyed, Ostrivske, Stepanivka and the private sector of Kurakhove were under attack. 5 people were injured, 12 apartment buildings and an administrative building damaged in Myrnohrad.

Towards Kramatorsk, 2 people were killed and 3 injured, 3 houses were destroyed, 9 residential buildings, 2 administrative buildings and a shop damaged in Drobysheve of Lyman community. 3 houses were damaged in Markove of Konstiantynivka community.

Towards Bakhmut, 4 private houses, an apartment building and 2 industrial buildings were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. 1 house in Siversk and 1 more in Serebrianka were damaged.

In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 13 times over the day. 450 people, including 66 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russians killed 2 civilians in Drobysheve. Another 8 people were injured in the oblast over the day.

Luhansk oblast

The invaders shelled Nevske and Novoliubivka by Grad multiple rocket launchers.

In Nevske, explosions occurred both in the area of household premises and near residential areas.

The enemy used artillery and mortars to attack Makiivka, Stelmakhivka, Kuzemivka and Nevske.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defence forces repelled the enemy’s attacks, specifically near Novoiehorivka and Makiivka.

Also russians dropped two guided aerial bombs near Novoiehorivka. According to preliminary data, the enemy lost 64 invaders and one tank in this sector yesterday.

Our defenders are reinforcing the frontline of defence towards Lyman.

The enemy is also constantly attacking Bilohorivka.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that almost 170,000 tonnes of wheat have been delivered from the occupied Luhansk oblast to Rostov region. Despite the declaration of an emergency situation in this occasion, agricultural products were also sent to Voronezh, Belgorod, Volgograd, Tula regions and Krasnodar Territory.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the forests near Rubizhne continue to burn. The invaders do not have sufficient forces, means and desire to extinguish the fire. The only thing they have done is to ask residents of neighbouring Kudriashivka to leave their homes for safety. Then, as nature allows.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

For the third night in a row, the enemy has not stopped its massive attacks on Kyiv oblast – the russian military attacked the region with a combination of drone and missile strikes. According to Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, there was neither damage to residential or critical infrastructure in the oblast nor casualties.

According to KMWA, all consumers in Holosiivskyi district who were left without electricity as a result of the russian missile attack on Kyiv on 31 May have been reconnected to the power grid. Emergency crews have completed repair work and supplied power to the remaining private homes that were without electricity.

The RMA reported that Kyiv oblast has allocated more than UAH 165m to support defenders, veterans and families of the victims. The programme provides annual assistance to the families of fallen defenders and the families of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, defenders with disabilities, and monthly targeted assistance to children whose parents died defending the country. Part of the funds will be used to reimburse the defenders and their families for the cost of medicines and a week’s stay in rehabilitation facilities and sanatoriums.

The new aid package for the Ukrainian energy sector, approved by the Swedish government, will be distributed among energy facilities in 4 oblasts, including Kyiv. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is the coordinator of the aid. The funds will be spent on the supply of power equipment (generators, transformers, etc.) and the restoration of energy infrastructure.

The medical volunteer of the Hospitaliery battalion reported that on 2 June, Kyiv will hold a funeral service for paramedic and journalist Iryna Tsybukh, call sign Cheka, who was killed in Kharkiv oblast. The funeral will start at St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral at 1pm, followed by a mourning procession to Maidan Nezalezhnosti, where a commemorative event will take place. During the event, all the people who care will sing ten songs that Iryna chose for the ceremony.

Kyivzelenbud reported that on 28 May, public discussions were held in Kyiv on the concept of overhauling the park in Pecherskyi district in honour of Dmytro Kotsiubailo, the Hero of Ukraine, commander of the Da Vinci Wolves special forces unit, who was killed in the war. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Training sessions for new psychological support counsellors for police officers were held in Zhytomyr oblast.The counsellors learnt to provide first aid in stressful situations and practised a number of practical techniques to stabilise their psycho-emotional state.

The implementation of the project “Cities and Communities Free from Domestic Violence”, initiated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), continues in Khoroshiv community of Zhytomyr oblast. This project aims to build municipal systems to prevent and combat domestic and gender-based violence.

Sumy oblast

At night and in the morning, russians shelled the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast twice. 10 mortar attacks were recorded on the territory of Seredyna-Buda community. The enemy attacked Bilopillia community by small arms.

Over the past day, the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 24 times. A total of 131 explosions were recorded – attacks from mortars, artillery, FPV drones and the dropping of explosives from UAVs. Nine communities were shelled: Krasnopillia, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Mykolaivka, Seredyna-Buda, Esman, Svesa, Velyka Pysarivka. 

Chernihiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that yesterday russian troops launched 7 mortar attacks in Kliusy village of Snovsk community.

In Slobidka village of Novhorod-Siverskyi region, there is an amateur museum dedicated to the defenders of Ukraine. The museum was opened on 5 June 2019 in honour of fellow countrymen who died in the ATO zone, on the anniversary of the death of the owner of the house, Ihor Medved. In the villages of Novhorod-Siverskyi community, this is the only museum dedicated to the modern russian-Ukrainian war. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the museum has been replenished with exhibits – new items are being donated by the military.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the enemy attacked energy facilities in Dnipropetrovsk oblast at night. In Nikopol, a bus was damaged by an enemy drone strike. Four people were injured, including a child. A 7-year-old girl received a shrapnel wound. A 69-year-old man and two women aged 74 and 68 were also injured. In general, the region was shelled with artillery and kamikaze drones in the evening and in the morning. The region’s centre and Pokrovsk community were targeted. A private house, an outbuilding, an unused building, and cars were damaged.

During the day, the occupants attacked Nikopol district 8 times. They launched 3 kamikaze drones and about two and a half dozen artillery shells. The region’s centre, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities were hit. An enterprise and a power line were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​Serhii Borzov, Head of the RMA, reported that a fire broke out at a critical infrastructure facility in Vinnytsia oblast as the wreckage of a downed drone fell. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of RMA, reported that the russian army shelled an energy infrastructure facility in Kirovohrad oblast in the morning. 

In Kropyvnytskyi, the Give Children a Smile charity event was organised for children of active military personnel, those killed, missing, and those in russian captivity on Children’s Day. Workshops, entertainment, horseback riding, and more were organised for children. 

Poltava oblast

Filip Pronin, Head of the RMA, reported that a soldier from Poltava oblast, Yurii Oleksiienko, has been returned from russian captivity. He served in the 32nd separate mechanised brigade.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy oblast, Horodyshche community said goodbye to the fallen defender of Ukraine Serhii Lysak. He was killed in Kharkiv oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The”East” Air Command reported that on the night of 1 June, during a massive enemy air strike on critical infrastructure facilities in different regions of Ukraine, air defence forces in Zaporizhzhia oblast destroyed two kamikaze drones and one X-101/555 cruise missile. 

Zaporizhzhia City Council informed that as a result of a night attack in Zaporizhzhia, the enemy hit an energy infrastructure facility. Dnipro hydroelectric dam is currently blocked. The attack also damaged 74 residential buildings, three educational institutions and a number of non-residential buildings. Windows were smashed, balconies and loggias were damaged. No people were injured. 

Since the morning, all city services and volunteers have been working at the scene to cover the broken windows with OSB sheets and restore the outdoor lighting network. A total of 125 people and 25 pieces of equipment are involved in the response to the attack.

On 31 May, russians have launched more than 540 attacks in Zaporizhzhia oblast, shelling 12 settlements, causing destruction. The occupation forces launched rocket attacks on the regional centre and conducted an air strike on Novoandriivka.

230 drones of various modifications attacked Chervonodniprovka, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, Robotyne, Malynivka and Novoandriivka.

18 attacks from multiple rocket launchers hit Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka and Piatykhatky. Also russian troops fired 291 artillery rounds at the territory of Krasnodniprovka, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Stepnohirsk, Dorozhnianka, Levadne, Malynivka and Nesterianka. There were no casualties.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, said that Ukraine managed to return three servicemen from Zaporizhzhia oblast who had been in captivity. It happened yesterday, 31 May. 

The russian invaders do not stop “nationalising” the property of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast. Currently, the pseudo-authorities are conducting an inventory of agricultural land. 

The National Resistance Centre reported that the collaborators are forcing the local population to provide title documents for the land they cultivate. It doesn’t matter whether the owners of the land shares have managed to get the documents in accordance with kremlin legislation. All the land will be under the control of the russian army. 

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that at night, on 1 June, air armed forces and means destroyed eight Shahed 131/136 UAVs over the territory of Mykolaiv oblast. 

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, reported that on 31 May, and in the morning, on 1 June, russian troops shelled Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities of Mykolaiv oblast. There were no casualties. 

Mykola Kuleba, Commissioner for Children’s Rights, reported that on 31 May, 5 pupils of Novopetrivsk boarding school in Mykolaiv oblast were returned to Ukraine. In July 2022, the russian occupiers took them to Kherson Centre for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation, in October — to the occupied Crimea, and then to Anapa, Krasnodar territory. From russia, the children were first taken to Georgia, then to Ukraine. Here they were handed over to their legal guardians.

Odesa oblast

On 31 May, in the evening, the enemy attacked Odesa with a ballistic missile with a cluster munition. Russian terrorists targeted the port infrastructure. According to Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, two people sustained shrapnel injuries as a result of the shelling: a 28-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man. They were hospitalised in moderate condition.

The “South” Air Command reported that on the night of 1 June, 23 Shahed-136/131 attack drones were destroyed. In particular, Ukrainian defenders shot down 2 attack drones over Odesa oblast. In addition, in the evening, the enemy fired a guided missile from the sea at Odesa oblast. However, it lost its combat capability in the coastal zone. 

The roundtable “Impact of hostilities on marine ecosystems of Ukraine. Problems and prospects for research” was organised by the Institute of Marine Biology of the National Academy of Sciences. Scientists discussed how military operations pollute marine waters, pose threats to cetaceans and lead to significant resource losses. In particular, they believe that the key problem in the Black Sea is the undermining of Kakhovka Reservoir dam by russians in June 2023, which they called one of the largest environmental disasters of the 21st century.

Kherson oblast

The “South” Air Command stated that on the night of 1 May, the Air Armed Forces of southern Ukraine shot down 8 Shahed-136/131 attack drones over Kherson oblast. 

On 31 May, the russian military attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Inzhenerne, Shyroka Balka, Kizomys, Veletenske, Stanislav, Poniativka, Novotianka, Beryslav, Mykhailivka, Kachkarivka, Zmiivka, Tomaryne and Chervonyi Maiak in Kherson oblast.

As a result of the russian attacks, 2 private houses, a power line and a private car were damaged. In addition, the russian military hit an administrative building, the territory of a medical facility and a bus stop. On 31 May, at around 6:30pm, the russian army attacked Beryslav in Kherson oblast with drones, injuring 3 people. The occupation forces also hit a medical facility in Korabelnyi district of Kherson.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that in the morning on 31 May, russian troops fired on the centre of Kherson from the occupied left bank of the Dnipro River. The shells damaged a public transport stop and a car, severed a trolleybus line, and smashed windows in cafes and shops. A 65-year-old woman was injured, she sustained a mine-blast injury and contusion. 

The “South” Air Command stated on its page that on the night of 1 May, the Air Defence Forces of southern Ukraine shot down 8 Shahed-136/131 attack drones over Kherson oblast. 

Holoprystan City Military Administration reported that among the Ukrainians released from russian captivity on 31 May is a resident of the Holoprystan community in the Kherson oblast. He was captured by russians on the Zmiinyi Island. In total, 75 people were returned from russian captivity. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard, border guards and civilians. 

Kherson Art Museum named after Oleksii Shovkunenko stated on its Facebook page that the russian occupiers stole more than ten paintings from the collection museum, the main characters of which are children.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Two servicemen from the oblast returned from russian captivity. Anatolii Kholevinskyi from Kivertsi, born on 21 August, 1984. He has been in captivity since April 2023. Oleksandr Sichkovskyi from Turiisk, born on 20 January, 1992. He has been in captivity since July 2023.

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent a BRAVERY-R unmanned aircraft complex, 2 Mitsubishi L200, Volkswagen Transporter, 6 Quertus AD G-6+, 3 Quertus AD COUNTER FPV, 11 Mavic 3, 9 Mavic 3 FMC, 11 Mavic 3T, 43 FPV Drones, 4 EcoFlow, 6 Motorola Radios, an AVENGER Booster, a Bandera Flashlight, a Bandera Power 225S and a Kraft Dele Gasoline Generator to the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that during the night shelling of Ukraine, 2 cruise missiles entered the airspace of Zakarpattia oblast at a considerable height, but immediately changed their course to Lviv oblast.

The Regional Council held a meeting with clergy. They discussed issues of social and humanitarian projects, assistance to IDPs, etc.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Among the released prisoners are servicemen from Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. Chernyi Ruslan from Kalush region and Ihor Cherniavskyi from Rohatyn region returned home.

As part of the Care for the Hero’s Family project, 2 families with children went on vacation to the Carpathians. In the new season of the project, 132 native fallen defenders were able to go on vacation, including 84 children.

Lviv oblast

During the air alert, which lasted from 3:29am to 6:10am, 6 cruise missiles hit 3 objects of critical infrastructure in Lviv oblast. There is destruction. 4 people were injured. They were hospitalised. The condition is of medium severity.

This night, units of the West Air Command destroyed 16 Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kalibr cruise missiles and 4 Shahed-131/136 type attack UAVs over Lviv oblast.

Lviv RMA has allocated over UAH 31m for the needs of the military. The funds will be used for the purchase of: an unmanned aerial vehicle, electronic warfare equipment and FPV drones to the 141th Separate Rifle Brigades; telescopic low-frame semi-trailer (maximum adapted for the transportation of all types of aviation equipment, Ukrainian production) to the 57th Air Base of the Army Aviation; drones with a thermal imager to the 117th Separate Mechanised Brigade; quadcopters and EW means to the 25th Separate Amphibious Assault Brigades; quadcopters, spare parts and for the current repair of cars to the 82nd Separate Amphibious Assault Brigade.

Rivne oblast

The 110th Safety Classroom was opened at Bilashiv Lyceum, Ostroh community.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA reported that since 18 May, over 2,300 conscripts have updated their registration data in Administrative Service Centers of Ternopil oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

At night, during the air alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces destroyed an enemy UAV of the Shahed type. The place where the debris fell is being established. So far, there have been no reports of injuries, deaths or damage to property.

Chernivtsi oblast

Annalena Burbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, reported that the country will send a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine to strengthen the country’s air defence against the background of russian aggression.

Yuriko Backes, Minister of Defense of Luxembourg, announced that the country will allocate €5m to the “artillery coalition” supporting Ukraine.

The Diplomatic Meetings on Defense Industry Issues in Kyiv was held, in which military attaches of the embassies of the USA, Canada, the Netherlands and Denmark took part. The meeting behind closed doors was devoted to military-technical cooperation. The event brought together about 100 participants, included, weapons developers and manufacturers, logistics, security and consulting companies, representatives of diplomatic and political circles.

The first batch of shells under the Czech initiative will arrive in Ukraine in June. So far, funds for the purchase of ammunition have been provided by Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, Canada and the Czech Republic.

The US will send their advisers to the defence ministers of Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia and the Balkans. This will be done in order for the agencies to become more compatible with American forces and to move away from the russian model.

Ingrid Simonite, Prime Minister of Lithuania, announced that the country is ready to send military instructors to Ukraine.

Radoslav Sikorskyi, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, stated that they proposed to create a unit of Ukrainian conscripts living in the country. According to him, Poland considered the Ukrainian request to send military instructors to Ukraine to train the Ukrainian military, however, he called the formation and training of a Ukrainian unit from those men living in Poland a more effective way to help the Ukrainian army.

Kharkiv printing house, which was hit by a russian missile on 23 May, will be restored thanks to The Howard G. Buffett Foundation. It will take 4-5 months to recover.
