What happened in Ukraine today:
Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:
Since the beginning of the day, 85 combat engagements have taken place in the frontline. Our defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line and disrupting the russians’ plans. At the same time, the occupants continue to be active towards Pokrovsk.
The russian aggressor continues to launch guided aerial bombs from its territory in Kharkiv oblast. From the direction of Belgorod (Russia), the enemy launched airstrikes near Lyptsi, Kozacha Lopan and Borshchova. Towards Kharkiv, two attacks near Hlyboke were repelled and a battle continues near Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy unsuccessfully tried to advance towards our positions near Hlushkivka and Petropavlivka throughout the day. Three enemy attacks are still ongoing near Stelmakhivka, Makiivka and Pishchane. Near the latter and Kolisnykivka, the invaders dropped aerial bombs, a total of four KABs.
Towards Lyman, the enemy increased the number of attacks to six. Fighting continues near Nevske, Makiivka and towards Lozova.
Towards Siversk, the enemy tried to break through our defences eight times near Vyimka, Spirne, Pereizne and Verkhnokamianske. Two firefights are still ongoing. The situation is under control.
Towards Kramatorsk, our defenders continue to repel two enemy attacks near Klishchiivka and Kalynivka. The total number of enemy assault attempts in the sector increased to six today.
Towards Toretsk, there were four enemy attacks near Zalizne, where the enemy is still attacking, and Niu-York. The occupants also bombed Pivnichne, Dyliivka and Toretsk.
Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy is currently most active. 32 times today there were clashes of varying intensity. Fighting is currently ongoing near Novooleksandrivka, Novoselivka Persha, Vozdvyzhenka and Prohres. The invaders’ aviation was firing at Vovche and Tymofiivka with anti-aircraft gunships during the day. In addition, terrorists conducted three air strikes with NARs in the area of Oleksandropil.
Towards Kurakhove, fighting continues, in two locations near Krasnohorivka. Our troops successfully repelled six more attacks – the enemy suffered losses near Heorhiivka, Paraskoviivka and Kostiantynivka.
Towards Vremivka, the aggressor made four attacks on our positions near Kostiantynivka and Staromaiorsk. Enemy attack aircraft attacked with multiple rocket launchers near Urozhaine.
Towards Orikhiv, there were three combat engagements near Mala Tokmachka and Novodanylivka. The enemy launched more than fifty unguided aerial missiles towards Kamianske and Lobkove.
Towards Kherson, our defenders repelled four enemy attacks near Krynky.
Ukrainian troops are controlling the situation and depleting the enemy along the entire frontline.
Ukrenerho reported that During the night attack, russian UAVs attacked power facilities in Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts. In the morning, power supply was restored to most consumers.
The Air Force informed that on the night of 20 July, russia attacked Ukraine with 17 drones, 3 ballistic missiles, and one Iskander-K cruise missile. Air defence forces shot down 13 of the 17 drones.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
According to Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, at 15.40 the occupants attacked the village of Ivashky with an FPV drone. ‘As a result of the strike on the store, four civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two men aged 48 and 33, and two women aged 62 and 44 were hospitalised.
According to Serhii Bolvinov, head of the Kharkiv police investigation department, russian soldiers killed and presumably raped a 41-year-old woman during the occupation of Izium, Kharkiv oblast. She was buried in a grave in the woods under the number 440.
At 4:10am, the russians attacked Lisne village, Mala Danylivka community, Kharkiv region. They struck a forest area, resulting in a fire.
At 3:15am, russians attacked Barvinkove village, Barvinkove TC, Izium region with Iskander missile, damaging more than 50 residential buildings, administrative buildings, outbuildings and cars. 2 men were killed and 3 people were wounded.
At 12:10am, russians attacked Oleksiivka village, Krasnokutsk TC, Bohodukhiv region. The wheat in the warehouse and the structural elements of the building burned. 3 warehouse buildings were damaged.
At 11:45pm of the previous day, russians attacked Vodiane village, Krasnokutsk TG, Bohodukhiv region. A grain storage facility was damaged as a result of Iskander strike.
At 10:34am, russians attacked the city of Kupiansk. A house caught fire.
At 9am, russians shelled the village of Kozacha Lopan, Derhachi community, Kharkiv region. The roof of a residential building caught on fire.
Towards Kharkiv, five clashes took place in the vicinity of Hlyboke and Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, there were 10 attacks over the last day. The AFU repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Novoosynove and Stelmakhivka.
According to Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of the regional police, at least two people were killed and three wounded as a result of three russian missile attacks on the town of Barvinkove in Kharkiv region on the night on 20 July. More than 50 residential buildings, administrative buildings, outbuildings and cars were damaged.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported that 4 railway workers were minorly injured in a russian attack on the night of 20 July in Kharkiv oblast.
Donetsk oblast
General Staff reported that russian army is advancing near Novooleksandrivka and Novoselivka Persha towards Pokrovsk. A total of 36 russian attacks took place in this area of the frontline over the past day.
The russians are also actively assaulting towards Toretsk, Lyman, Siversk and Kurakhove directions with more than 10 attacks per day in each of these areas.
Anastasiia Miedviedieva, Spokeswoman of Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office, informed that russian troops attacked the village of Yampil in Donetsk oblast in the afternoon. A 40-year-old local was wounded near his house.
According to Olena Rybakova, Deputy Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Complex, russian shelling has destroyed more than 700 hectares of wheat in the fields of Donetsk oblast since the beginning of the year.
Anastasiia Miedviedieva added that russian troops attacked the towns of Lyman and Toretsk with aerial bombs and struck a petrol station in Selydove community with a drone. Three people aged 42 to 71 years were injured.
According to the CMA, the russian army shelled Pokrovsk at night. Besides the city, one of the community’s starosta districts was struck. Municipal and private buildings were damaged, and as of 9am, 32 reports of damaged property were recorded. The regional police said that the russians struck the town of Pokrovsk and the village of Pershe Travnia. The strike damaged three houses, an administrative building and an enterprise building.
The regional police reported that the russians dropped at least five bombs on Toretsk over the past day. They dropped two bombs on Hrodivka, and fired at Raihorodok with Uragan.
In total, the russian army shelled 11 settlements in Donetsk oblast on 19 July.
The operational situation in the region as of the morning of 20 July:
Pokrovsk region. A multi-storey building was damaged in Kurakhove. In Pokrovsk, 3 houses and an enterprise building were damaged, the administrative building was partially destroyed.
Kramatorsk region. In the village of Rai-Oleksandrivka of Mykolaivka community, 19 houses, a shop and 2 infrastructure facilities were damaged. In Markove of Kostiantynivka community, 2 houses and an infrastructure facility were damaged.
Bakhmut region. In Toretsk, 1 person was killed and 2 injured, 2 houses and a non-residential building were damaged. In Chasiv Yar community, 4 private houses and 2 multi-storey buildings were damaged.
The russians fired 26 times at the settlements of Donetsk oblast over the past 24 hours. 421 people were evacuated from the frontline, including 83 children.
According to Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, russians killed one resident of Donetsk oblast in Toretsk. Six more people were wounded.
Luhansk oblast
The russians shelled the de-occupied Ukrainian villages with cannon and rocket artillery, drones and aviation. They hit the territory of three households in Nevske, where the remaining premises caught on fire and burned down. One house was damaged in Novoliubivka.
The AFU repelled russian attacks near Stelmakhivka, Hrekivka, Nevske, in the Serebrianskyi forest and in Bilohorivka.
According to Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, clubs on wheels advertised by russians are brought from russia to the so-called “luhansk people republic” without specialised equipment. Cities and villages will have to buy all the necessary equipment at the expense of local budgets. They cannot refuse, because the relevant issue is under the control of the occupation authorities of Luhansk oblast.
Instead of timely collection of household waste in Luhansk, video cameras are being installed in places where garbage is most heavily accumulated.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
As a result of a nighttime UAV attack on Kyiv, debris from an enemy drone was seen falling in the Solomianskyi district of the capital. The information is being clarified. According to KCMA, there is no information on damage or casualties.
The city’s Nephrology and Dialysis Centre has been renovated in Kyiv, which received young patients from the Okhmatdyt clinic for treatment after the russian shelling. The 5-storey building was repaired, cutting-edge equipment was purchased, and several new departments were created. In addition, 5 new operating theatres and laboratories were equipped.
Kyiv City Military Administration announced that Kyivteploenerho is repairing a boiler about 20m high, which will improve the heat supply for 2,500 buildings in the capital.
According to the Regional State Administration, the preparation of housing and communal services for winter is currently 51%. This includes repairs and reconstruction of boiler houses, hydraulic testing of networks, repair of roofs, putting heating and cold water supply systems in order, and flushing of heating systems.
Olena Biletska, Head of the Ukrainian Women’s Guard, informed that in Zhmerynka UWG conducted tactical medicine training for the local community.

According to the regional military administration, work is underway in Kyiv oblast to ensure the integrated development of the transport system. The regional military administration hosted a working meeting with representatives and senior executives of South Korean companies that are helping to develop a transport model for the region.
A two-day seminar on ‘Teamwork in Creating a Safe Educational Environment’ was held for officers of the Educational Security Service in Kyiv oblast. The seminar participants received important and up-to-date information necessary for communicating with students, their parents and employees of educational institutions. Starting from the new school year, officers of the Educational Security Service will work in 94 schools in Kyiv oblast on a permanent basis.
An artist from Los Angeles under the pseudonym Trek Thunder Kelly is working with Ukrainian artist Olena Yanko to create a mural in the Four Lions Cultural Centre in Gostomel. The mural will feature flowers as a symbol of peace and unity, as well as elements reflecting Ukraine’s cultural heritage. He decided to visit Ukraine after the rocket attack on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital.

Zhytomyr oblast
Through cooperation with the Yevhen Pivovarov Foundation, Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration has received 150 sets of integrated energy storage and transmission systems to be installed in healthcare and social care facilities, rescue units and administrative service centres. In total, 91 institutions will receive energy storage devices to cover unexpected power outages.
During the exchange with russia on 17 July, 23-year-old soldier AndriI Trokhymchuk from Zhytomyr oblast was returned to Ukraine from russian captivity. AndriI joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the second day of the full-scale war and fought for Ukraine. Later, he was taken prisoner by russia.
Sumy oblast
Mayor YuriI Zarko informed that at 3:36pm, the russian army shelled the centre of Bilopillia with multiple rocket launchers. According to him, people were not injured, but there were damages to local houses, and there are problems with electricity, communication and the Internet in the city. According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Sumy oblast, the shelling damaged 2 apartment buildings, 6 private houses, 3 outbuildings, a low-pressure gas pipeline, and a power line.
On the night of 20 July, the enemy attacked an energy infrastructure facility in Konotop region using a Shahed UAV. According to the regional military administration, emergency repair work is underway. One of the enemy drones was destroyed by the Air Defence Forces.
At night and in the morning, the russians fired 13 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. A total of 29 explosions were recorded, including mortar and artillery fire and the use of FPV drones. Yunakivka, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Nova Sloboda and Esman communities were under hostile fire.
The RMA reported that on 19 July, russians fired 16 times in Sumy oblast. A total of 59 explosions were recorded. Eight border communities came under fire.
Krasnopillia community: shelling with the use of 1 FPV drone (1 explosion), mortar shelling (14 explosions), artillery shelling (9 explosions) were recorded.
The russians fired mortars at Shalyhyne community (3 explosions), and dropped three mines on the territory of Znob-Novhorodske and Esman communities.
Yunakivka community: tank shelling (4 explosions).
In Velyka Pysarivka community, as a result of mortar shelling on 19 July, 1 civilian died and 1 was injured. The enemy shelled the community with mortars – 18 explosions were recorded. According to the North military command, it happened in the village of Popivka – a woman was killed and her husband was wounded.
Shelling with the use of FPV drones took place in Nova Sloboda community (2 explosions) and Myropillia (2 explosions).
The regional police reported that on 19 July, 3 shops and a bakery were damaged in Sumy oblast as a result of russian shelling. According to the North command, damage was recorded in Krasnopillia and Osyivka.

On 19 July, rescuers once again joined the evacuation efforts in Bilopillia town. the SES reported that the evacuation of the population from the border areas, which are subject to constant attacks by the aggressor country, continues in the region.
Chernihiv oblast
The regional military administration reported that on the night of 20 July, the enemy attacked an energy infrastructure facility in Chernihiv oblast with a Shahed drone. Emergency repair work is underway.
Over the past day, on 19 July, russian troops fired on two border communities in Chernihiv oblast. The SBGS informed that a total of 8 explosions were recorded. The enemy struck 6 times at the territory of Novhorod-Siverskyi community in the direction of the villages of Mykhalchyna Sloboda and Hremiach – mortar fire and an explosive device dropped from a UAV. There were 2 mortar explosions on the territory of Snovsk community in the direction of Khrinivka.
The building of Chernihiv Centre for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children is undergoing major repairs at the expense of the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression. The building sustained significant damage as a result of shelling by russian troops in March 2022. According to the RMA, the facility is currently undergoing the necessary dismantling work, facade insulation, floor screed, and plastering.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that last night, the occupiers continued to attack Nikopol region with artillery and kamikaze drones. They targeted the villages of Pokrovsk and Marhanets communities. In the morning, the enemy directed kamikaze drones at Nikopol, damaging a private house.
The enemy continues to terrorise the peaceful residents of Nikopol region. Due to the artillery shelling in the regional centre, a 44-year-old man was killed. A 60-year-old woman was also injured in Pokrovsk community. Overall, there were about fifteen attacks during the day. The occupiers used artillery and kamikaze drones, also targeting Marhanets community. Several fires occurred, destroying a farm building and causing a private house’s roof to catch fire. A multi-apartment building, a gymnasium, 17 private houses, 7 farm buildings, 3 greenhouses, 2 cars, and a truck were damaged, and power lines and gas pipelines were hit.
Vinnytsia oblast
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine said that the artist from Vinnytsia Volodymyr Koziuk presented the artistic project “Prayer for Ukraine” in the Lavra. The central theme of the project is the image of the “Ukrainian Madonna” surrounded by the most important historical and artistic artefacts of different regions of Ukraine. This image personifies not only the Mother of God, but also all Ukrainian women-mothers who believe in God, victory and their nation.

Kirovohrad oblast
In Kropyvnytskyi, an art therapy session was held for the relatives of military personnel. This therapy session utilised the “mandala” technique, which creates a unique atmosphere of trust and deeper self-discovery.
Poltava oblast
Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA, reported that at night, the enemy attacked the Poltava oblast. The shooting took place in the Poltava oblast. Civil infrastructure was damaged in Myrhorod region.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that on 19 July the russian army struck nine towns and villages in the oblast 362 times. They shelled the territory of Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Zatyshshia, Malynivka and Levadne 177 times with artillery. There were no casualties.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that seven attacks of the russian army near Mala Tokmachka, Shcherbaki, Robotyne and Novoandriivka in Zaporizhzhia oblast were repelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine towards Orikhiv.
Zaporizhzhia State Emergency Service reported that four fires in Polohy region occurred as a result of russian shelling on 19 July. Rescuers extinguished the fires.
Mykolaiv oblast
Oleksandr Senkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv and the Office of the Prosecutor General, reported that a man injured in a rocket attack on the city on 19 July died in hospital in Mykolaiv. As of the morning of 20 July, 4 people have already fallen victim to russian terrorist shelling – 2 women, a man and a 12-year-old boy.
On 19 July, an exhibition Chronicles of Victory by Olha Kurska, talented Cherkasy artist, opened in Mykolaiv, in the House of Fleet Officers. Prior to Mykolaiv, the exhibition had already been shown in Zhytomyr, Kremenchuk, Kropyvnytskyi, Cherkasy and Mukachevo. The exhibition was organised by Volodymyr Alekseiev, a well-known Mykolaiv artist and volunteer. The exhibition features 55 works by the author. All of them were created during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the russian troops.
Odesa oblast
Late in the evening of 19 July, the russian army attacked Odesa oblast with an X-31PD anti-radar missile. The consequences of the missile attack have not yet been reported. The Air Defence of Southern Ukraine also destroyed one ZALA reconnaissance drone and three Lancet strike UAVs.
According to the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 20 July, the russian fleet continues to manoeuvre in the seas. The occupiers brought one of the ships from the Sea of Azov to the basing point. However, the absence of warships in the Black Sea does not reduce the threat to Odesa oblast due to the possibility of launching Kalibr missiles from port areas.
Kherson oblast
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, on 20 July, in the afternoon, the russian military attacked Antonivka near Kherson. Two women sustained mine-blast injuries and shrapnel injuries.
On 20 July, in the morning, the russian military shelled Bilozerka, Kherson oblast. A non-residential building was on fire. Rescuers extinguished the fire.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that on 19 July, the russian army shelled 14 settlements in the oblast. An administrative building, six multi-storey buildings and 98 private houses were damaged. Three people were killed and 13 injured in the shelling.
On 19 July, 12 fires broke out in Kherson oblast as a result of russian shelling. Rescuers extinguished the fires in residential buildings, a multi-storey building, farm buildings and three cars.
According to activists of the Yellow Ribbon movement, in the temporarily occupied Skadovsk, Kherson oblast, the russian military are actively looking for empty houses or forcing people to vacate them. Recently, the occupiers forcibly evicted an elderly woman from her home, offering her to live with a neighbour while the russian army continued its rotation.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs is launching an information campaign of gratitude to defenders throughout Ukraine. Volyn oblast was one of the 1st to join the campaign. The 1st posters can already be seen in state institutions, social welfare institutions, on billboards and city lights in the oblast.
The other day, the 60-day period for clarifying the data of conscripts in the Centers for the provision of administrative services ended. During this period, the employees of Volyn Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: processed 48,901 applications; prepared 12,589 extracts based on the results of services and generated 28,696 electronic military registration documents.
Lutsk City Council reported that the Military Unit A4599 received 2 DJI Mavic 3T Enterprise (Thermal) quadcopters, 3 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters.
Zakarpattia oblast
Uzhhorod City Center of Social Services of the Department of Social Policy of the City Council reported that over 20 children of the fallen Heroes from Uzhhorod, accompanied by their relatives, went on a 1-day vacation to the water complex Kosino, Berehovo region. Various entertainment and relaxation, as well as lunch, await them there.
Uzhhorod City Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital received humanitarian aid, included, a Easy Stand Evolv verticaliser, which has over 50 options, wheelchairs, infusion materials, tubes, catheters, medical gloves, clamps, syringes, bandages, scalpels, drainage devices, etc., from Opsterland and Smallingerland (communities in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands).
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Over 1,000 children from front-line oblasts have already been accepted by Prykarpattia for rehabilitation. The other day, 18 children accompanied by adults from Mykolaiv oblast and 27 from Kherson oblast arrived at the recreation and health facilities of the oblast. Also, in July, the oblast expects to receive another 20 children accompanied by 6 adults from Kharkiv oblast.
Lviv oblast
Lviv City Hall sent a car to the Ukrainian defenders at the community’s expense, within the framework of the city-wide program of support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The car will be used for special tasks.
Lviv City Council reported that the French government will allocate a €5 grant for the first stage of the construction of the tram track near the Unbroken centre.
The City Center for Support of Families of Prisoners of War and Missing Persons has been operational in Lviv. The centre works in coordination with the Western Regional Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
In Chervonohrad, a mural was created in honour of Vitalii Habytskyi, this year’s Lyceum graduate, who today defends Ukraine in ranks of the Airborne Assault Troops, and Elizaveta Kozak, student at the Faculty of Missile Forces and Artillery. Vitalii was repeatedly awarded honorary state awards, namely the Defender of the Fatherland medal by the President. Elizaveta’s parents serve in the 24th Bridge named after King Danylo.

Rivne oblast
The RMA held a meeting with representatives of USAID Program projects working in the oblast. They discussed supporting Rivne oblast.
The RMA held a meeting with Remy Duflo, Deputy Head of the EU Representation in Ukraine. They discussed attracting the financial resources of the EU to the area.
The RMA held a meeting with Saulius Ivoshka, Advisor to the Mayor of Alytus (Lithuania). Directions of cooperation between cities, which soon intend to sign a partnership agreement, were discussed.
Funds for the purchase of 35 apartments for veterans and families of the war killed was deposited into the treasury accounts of communities of the oblast. For Rivne oblast, the Government has allocated UAH 80.2m for this.
A few days ago, the 60-day period of providing a service for clarifying the data of conscripts in the Centers for the provision of administrative services ended. During this time, almost 45,000 residents of Rivne oblast complied with the law and clarified their registration data.
Ternopil oblast
As part of the Children of Heroes program of Ternopil City Council, 25 children of Heroes from Ternopil together with their mothers went on vacation to Bukovel. Ternopil City Council fully covered all transportation costs. And the trip was organized by the Light of Reformation CF and the Bread of Life Church.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
5 servicemen from Khmelnytskyi oblast were posthumously awarded with III degree For Courage orders. High state awards were presented to relatives of fallen Heroes.
Chernivtsi oblast
Another pilot initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine is being implemented in Chernivtsi oblast. It is about the introduction of social services of supported accommodation and social adaptation.
In autumn, an innovative rehabilitation centre is planned to be opened at Chernivtsi Regional Hospital for Veterans. The new state-of-the-art centre will be located on the basis of one of the key medical institutions of the oblast. The centre will be able to provide assistance simultaneously to 60 defenders of Ukraine who were injured as a result of russian aggression. The facility is currently under renovation.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Lithuania will send energy equipment worth over €50m to Ukraine. Specifically, it is about over 300 units of the most important equipment of the Vilnius CHP-3.
Ukraine and Great Britain concluded an agreement on credit support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities. British suppliers will be able to conclude credit agreements and contracts with Ukraine for 2bn pounds. The amount may be increased in the future.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, stated that the Polish government has made a decision that will accelerate Ukraine’s acquisition of F-16s.
Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of Great Britain, announced that 44 European countries have approved a plan to combat the shadow fleet of russian oil tankers used to circumvent international sanctions.
Germany will provide €14m to the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital. Martin Jager, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine, said that €4m of them are provided as emergency aid, namely, medicines that are needed now, medical supplies, etc.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Donald Trump. They agreed on a meeting to discuss what steps can make the peace fair and lasting.
Pietro Parolin, State Secretary of the Vatican, arrived in Ukraine on an official visit. He will be in Ukraine for several days, visiting Odesa, Kyiv and Zhytomyr oblasts.
