It has been the 624th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

There were 55 combat engagements. The enemy launched a total of 1 missile and 13 air strikes, 42 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged. Also, the russian federation carried out  another attack on Ukraine with a Kh-59 cruise missile, shot down by the Ukrainian air defense.

The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes and signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, they maintain its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Around 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Senkivka, Bleshnia, Mykolaivka, Zaliznyi Mist, Chernihiv oblast, Volfyne, Basivka, Yunakivka, Stepok,Sumy oblast), Ternova, Izbytske, Starytsia, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the vicinity of Synkivka, Kharkiv oblast. The Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 attacks in the area. The occupiers launched air strikes near Petropavlivka and Stepove, Donetsk oblast. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Novomlynsk, Synkivka, Kyslivka, Krokhmalne, Tabaivka, Kharkiv oblast. 

Towards Lyman, russian occupiers conducted failed assaults near Stelmakhivka and Novoiehorivka, Luhansk oblast. The invaders launched air strike in the vicinity of Novoselivka, Donetsk oblast and Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast. The occupiers fired from artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, Fedorivka, Rai-Oleksandrivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 enemy attacks in the vicinities of Bohdanivka and Klischiivka, Donetsk oblast. Over 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka, Kurdiumivka, New York, Donetsk oblast. 

Towards Avdiivka, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations with air support southeast of Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Donetsk oblast, where the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks. The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 15 settlements, including Novokalynove, Orlivka, Lastochkyne, Avdiivka, Opytne, Sieverne, Donetsk oblast. 

Towards Mariinka, the enemy made 23 unsuccessful assaults with air support in the vicinities of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. The occupiers launched air strikes near Oleksandropi and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. Around 10 settlements of Donetsk oblast, including Heorhiivka, Mariinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Antonivka, were under the occupiers’ artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the invaders conducted assaults with air support in the vicinities of Zolota Nyva and Staromaiorske, Donetsk oblast, to no success. Around 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast, came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the invaders made failed assaults in the vicinities of Verbove and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 attacks. The occupiers launched air strikes near Novodarivka and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast. Over 20 settlements, including Levadne, Huliaipole, Novodanylivka, Novopavlivka, Novoandriivka, Kamianske, Zaporizhzhia oblast, came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kherson, the settlement of Zolota Balka, Tokarivka, Ponyativka, Dniprovske, Kherson oblast and the city of Kherson suffered from enemy artillery shelling.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation towards Melitopol and offensive (assault) operations towards Bakhmut, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, exhausting the enemy all along the front line.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 4 air strikes on buildups of troops, weapons and military equipment of the occupiers. 

The Ukrainian rocket troops and artillery hit 4 artillery systems, 2 command posts and 1 signals intelligence station of the russian invaders.


According to the head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Serhii Tomilenko, at least 25 journalists are being held captive by Russia. “We call the captivity and detention of Crimean Tatar citizen journalists in places of captivity. For example, the detention of Vladyslav Yesipenko and Iryna Danylovich, detained by the occupying russian authorities in Crimea and are being held in prisons,” he noted.

Human Rights Watch reports that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, over 3,790 educational institutions in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that  towards Slobozhanske, over 15 settlements were under enemy artillery and mortar attack, including: Veterynarne, Kozacha Lopan of Kharkiv region, Vovchansk of Chuhuiv region and Kupiansk.

The enemy launched air strikes on Petropavlivka, Kupiansk region. They repeatedly launched artillery strikes at Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.

The invaders conducted unsuccessful assault operations near Synkivka settlement, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 6 enemy attacks.

The invaders shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, at 12 pm, damaging a residential building and a kindergarten.   

The enemy attacked Vovchanski Khutory village, Chuhuiv region, at 1 pm. A private building was damaged.

In Iziumske village, Izium region, a civilian man born in 1975 was killed as a result of the shelling between 1 pm and 4:30 pm.

The invaders shelled Kivsharivka settlement, Kupiansk region, at 3 pm. There were no casualties.

The enemy targeted Kupiansk at 9:25 pm, causing fire in a garage and a car.

Yesterday pyrothenics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 13 hectares of territory and defused 155 explosive ordnance.

As of 09 November 2023, 220 children have been evacuated from the dangerous communities of Kupiansk region. The work is ongoing.

The electricity supply has been restored to the customers in Ruska Lozova village, Kharkiv region. This settlement has suffered greatly from the enemy occupation as russians destroyed 25% of the houses and 95% of the electricity supply infrastructure. To restore it, Kharkivoblenerho specialists had to completely replace the wires, install 700 new power poles, repair substations, etc. Now the village is home to about 1,500 people, three times less than before the full-scale invasion, but people are gradually returning.

One of the planned shelters is already under construction in Korotych, Kharkiv region. This is actually an underground school where children will be able to study. The protective structure in Korotych can accommodate about 500 people at a time, which corresponds to the number of students and teachers in the local secondary school. In addition, during an emergency, this shelter will be able to accommodate people from the neighbouring kindergarten, offices and other institutions.

Donetsk oblast

According to Donetsk Regional Military Administration, towards Donetsk, 4 administrative buildings were damaged in Hostre of Kurakhove community. The day before, Novomykhailivka and Paraskoviivka of Marinka community and Lastochkyne in Ocheretyne community were shelled. Avdiivka was under missile attack.

Towards Horlivka, 1 person was killed in Pivnichne of Toretsk community and 6 buildings damaged in Toretsk. In Chasiv Yar community, 1 person was injured, an enterprise and a private building damaged. Dovha Balka of Illinivsk community was shelled.

Towards Lysychansk, 1 person was killed in Rai-Oleksandrivka of Mykolaivka community. Torske, Zarichne and Yampil of Lyman community were shelled. Two buildings were damaged in Siversk.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration the day before, kits with basic necessities were distributed in Nevske and police helped deliver another 220 loaves of bread to the villagers. Residents of Hrekivka and Makiivka received food and hygiene kits. Humanitarian kits were delivered to Nevske, including dishes, mattresses, blankets, pillows, bedding, carimats, matches, candles, lighters and solar-powered lanterns.

Yesterday russians tried to attack Novoiehorivka but all their attempts were repelled.

The enemy shelled Bilohorivka and Nevske with mortars and artillery.

In Starobilsk region, the invaders are raiding houses, checking for russian passports. In case of its absence, they are aggressively encouraging people to submit the necessary documents, saying that otherwise they will be sent to the basement. Preparations for the presidential election in the neighbouring country have begun.

It has become even more difficult to get to Rubizhne. The entry/exit passes introduced a few months ago were supposed to simplify this procedure but the local occupation authorities have complicated things by effectively isolating the town. New passes are not issued there and the validity of the previous ones is not extended.

The number of emergencies related to collaborators and russian troops in the so-called “lpr” has recently increased.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Peter Buttigieg, the US Secretary of Transportation, said that Robert Meriner will take up the position of infrastructure adviser in Ukraine as part of the reconstruction. He will be based in Kyiv to provide technical assistance in the implementation of projects aimed at restoring the country.

The development of national medicine was discussed at the International Healthcare Summit held in Kyiv. The event brought together more than 200 qualified medical professionals. Participants shared their experience in treating combat injuries, complex clinical cases during the war, prosthetics, mental health and physical rehabilitation. 

The Kyiv RMA signed a trilateral memorandum with the humanitarian organisation August Mission and Janz Corporation, which specialises in helping people with disabilities. The aim is to cooperate in providing medical care and support to civilians and military personnel injured as a result of the armed conflict.

On November 7, Ukrainian Women’s Guard held a meeting with a crisis psychologist for women in the village of Borodianka. The topic of the meeting was: “How to increase your stress resistance and psychological resilience”. The Ukrainian Women’s Guard regularly conducts various trainings and workshops for women in online and offline formats.

A new fallout shelter is being built at Boryspil Lyceum at the expense of the Fund for Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression. It will be equipped with a playroom, bathrooms, showers, a medical office, a cafeteria, and stairs with a ramp. The lyceum has 970 students, and offers clubs and sports sections. The newly constructed shelter will make it possible to organise full-time education in a shift format.

Representatives of Hyundai Corporation are planning to supply construction equipment for the Kyiv oblast. The RMA will provide specific reconstruction projects in the oblast’s communities, which will contain a clear list of the necessary equipment. The meeting also discussed the supply of emergency medical vehicles and school buses to the oblast.

Vitalii Klychko, the mayor of Kyiv, receives the German and European Understanding Award from Deutsche Gesellschaft. The prize was established on the 15th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Zhytomyr oblast

Dina Prokhorchuk, Head of the Budget and Finance Department of the Zhytomyr City Council, reported that UAH 1.200 billion was transferred from the Zhytomyr City Community budget over 9 months to support the military and overcome the consequences of the russian invasion, which is almost a third of all expenditures for this period. 

Serhii Sukhomlyn, the mayor of the city, reported that Zhytomyr is planning to launch a unique platform for the production of fpv drones at the expense of the city budget. On the online platform, Zhytomyr residents will be able to see which units need fpv drones and what characteristics they need. There will also be training on drone assembly and companies that can provide the necessary components. 

Sumy oblast

According to the Sumy RMA, russians carried out 2 mortar attacks on the territory of Putyvl community. There were more than 20 rounds of small arms fire on the territory of the Shalyhine community.

On November 8, the enemy fired 27 times at the border areas of Sumy oblast. There were 149 explosions in total. The Khotin, Krasnopillia, Myropil, Bilopillia, Putyvl, Shalyhine, Seredyna-Buda, Esman, Znob-Novhorodske communities were attacked. The enemy fired from mortars, cannon artillery, AGS and MLRS. 1 FPV drone strike was also recorded on the territory of Seredyna-Buda community.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the RMA, reported that a comprehensive veterans’ support programme is to be created in Sumy Oblast. 

According to the Sumy RMA, since the beginning of the war, 214 internally displaced persons have been employed in Sumy oblast with the assistance of the employment service. 34 IDPs received vocational training commissioned by employers in the region, and 50 received a voucher for training. As part of the government’s eRobota project, 4 IDPs received a microgrant to start their own business.

According to State Emergency Service of Ukraine, in the Shostka district, rescuers and medical professionals taught children how to provide first aid. The training took place at one of Shostka’s fire and rescue units.

Chernihiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service reported that russians shelled the border of Chernihiv oblast 24 times. There were 206 explosions. Four communities in the oblast came under fire: Novhorod-Siverskyi – 8 attacks with 120 mm mortars and cannon artillery, Semenivka – 45 attacks with 120 mm mortars, rocket and cannon artillery, Snovsk – 62 attacks with mortars and AGS, Horodnia – 91 attacks with AGS and mortars.

Viacheslav Chaus, head of the RMA, reported that at night, the enemy shelled civilian objects in the centre of Semenivka. As a result of powerful explosions, administrative buildings and a utility company, residential buildings, and outbuildings of civilians were damaged.

The Chernihiv RMA reported that thanks to the Catch-Up Camp programme from the GoGlobal Education Foundation, another 50 high school students from border communities in Chernihiv Oblast will spend two weeks in an interesting and useful way. A programme and activities have been developed for the students to help them make up for their educational losses. At the camp, young people will be able to improve their knowledge of mathematics, English and Ukrainian. 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk announced that at night the Air Force shot down a Kh-59 guided air missile over Dnipro district of the oblast. The occupiers also shelled Marganets community with artillery. 

During the day the enemy shelled Nikopol with artillery twice. About a dozen shells were fired. As a result of the shelling a utility company, 6 private houses, farm buildings, five dozen solar panels, four dozen beehives, 2 power lines, a gas pipeline and a garage were damaged.

More than 6,000 russian munitions have been neutralized by Kryvyi Rih pyrotechnics since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In addition, rescuers made about 4,000 trips and extinguished 2,280 fires, including at objects damaged by russian shelling.

Vinnytsia oblast

Serhiy Morhunov, Vinnytsia Mayor announced that 10 Mavics and drop systems for them, 5 thermal imagers, 10 collimator sights and 20 army thermoses for food were sent to Vinnytsia units millitary. 

In Vinnytsia the student body of Lyceum No. 16 sent Starlink, thermal clothing and other gifts to the Steel Border Offensive Guard soldiers. It was possible to strengthen the soldiers thanks to the funds from Instead of flowers – donate to the Armed Forces campaign which schoolchildren held on September 1.

94-year-old Olena Vladymyrets together with her daughter Nina made almost 4,000 trench candles for defenders. The materials for women’s work are provided by caring residents of Vinnytsia.

Kirovohrad oblast

Kropyvnytskyi Flight Academy and the Republic of Korea representatives are working on creating a robot that will detect explosives by the presence of impurities in the air as a dog does. Currently they are studying the experience of Kropyvnytskyi Kennel Center. 

Poltava oblast

Philip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA together with Red Cross Society representatives of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine and Canadian Red Cross visited a modular town for immigrants. Owing to partners the oblast received 200 single-level and 150 double-level beds with mattresses. This furniture are already in use of houses.

Cherkasy oblast

Valerii Bandurko, Head of Cherkasy RMA reported that gas cylinders, construction staplers, mounting foam, pipes, elbows for heating furnaces, small gas burners, electric cable and electric heaters were sent to 254 battalion of 118 Separate Territorial Defense Brigade from Cherkasy oblast. All this was purchased by the communal enterprise of thermal networks of Cherkasy oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On November 8, russian  troops fired 131 times at 20 localities in Zaporizhzhia region. They fired 107 artillery shells in Gulyaypole, Novoandriivka, Novodarivka, Charivne, Poltavka, Levadne, Malynivka, Lugivske, Robotyno, Kamianske, Pyatikhatki, Mali Shcherbaki, Plavni and other frontline towns and villages.

Petro Kotin, Head of NNEGC Energoatom, reported that at the temporarily seized Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and Enerhodar the russians are reducing the number of troops. The occupiers also began to bring in more female military personnel. 

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, reported that on November 8, the russian army once again conducted artillery strikes in Mykolaiv oblast. The attack targeted an open area near the village of Solonchaky in the Kutsurub community. There were no casualties.

Recently, a solemn event was held to hand over the last 10 buses to Ukrainian communities with the participation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and President of the International Solidarity Fund Rafał Dzięczyłowski. The assistance was provided by the Polish International Solidarity Fund as part of the School Buses for Ukraine solidarity campaign, funded by the European Commission in cooperation with Bank Polski (BGK). The initiative was implemented as part of the Health Resilience 2 project. As part of this campaign, ten communities in Mykolaiv oblast received 15 new school buses. Among the new buses are inclusive buses that have lifts for students who use wheelchairs, and some of them are partially armoured. This will help ensure comfortable and safe transportation of children.

Odesa oblast

State Emergency Service reported that the fleet of Odesa rescuers has been replenished with a 12-tonne water truck. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation has once again donated equipment to Odesa rescuers. This time, it is not just a tanker truck, but a vehicle that can hold 12 tonnes of water and is currently the largest tanker truck in the Odesa garrison. It is noted that this special vehicle will soon be put into operational use. 

The Health Department of Odesa Regional Military Administration received humanitarian aid in the form of baby food from the Direct Relief charity. The food is aimed at meeting the most important needs of the most vulnerable population – children from birth to 3 years old – and will be transferred to medical institutions in Odesa oblast. The hospitals will distribute the aid to children undergoing hospital treatment.

Deputy Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Ukraine Francesco Pesce, Ukrinform reports, citing the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine said that Italy is already actively working on the future reconstruction of Odesa and is ready to provide financial support to Ukrainian cultural initiatives. This was announced by the Six vessels with 231,000 tonnes of agricultural products on board left the ports of Greater Odesa via a temporary corridor. They are heading towards the Bosphorus. Five vessels are waiting to enter ports for loading. This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine on November 9 .

Kherson oblast

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that Yantarne in the Kherson oblast was struck by the russian army. A man who was in his yard during the shelling was injured. He was hospitalised with injuries to his abdomen, arms and legs. 

In the afternoon, the russian army dropped explosives from a drone on Zolota Balka, Kherson oblast. Two cars were damaged. There were no casualties. 

Korabelny district of Kherson was shelled by russian troops, killing a 72-year-old man and injuring three others. Private and multi-storey buildings, garages, cars, gas pipelines and power lines were damaged. 

In the morning, the russian army shelled the Bilozerska community in Kherson oblast. A woman who was on the street was killed.

In Zolota Balka, Kherson oblast, the windows and doors of a local church were damaged as a result of the  afternoon shelling by the russian federation.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that on November 8, the russian army fired 85 times at Kherson oblast. A cellular tower and an invincibility point in Beryslav region were damaged. Two people were injured.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

In the conditions of martial law, the priority task is to preserve the life and health of citizens, especially children. Therefore, the creation of a safe educational environment in Volyn was discussed during the meeting of members of the Congress of local and regional authorities under the President of Ukraine, which was held in the oblast for the first time. In 535 institutions of general secondary education of the oblast, the educational process is organized in face-to-face, distance and mixed forms.

Zakarpattia oblast

A delegation from the German sister city of Darmstadt visited Uzhhorod. The visit is within the framework of the Promoting the Development of Civil Society joint project, which is implemented with the Center for Humanitarian Aid Owl’s Nest CF.

Delegations of Zakarpattia Regional Council visited Jihlava, the Vysochyna region of the Czech Republic. For the purpose of creating an association of Czech cities to help Ukraine.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Construction materials for the restoration of the fire department building, as well as office equipment and a generator, were sent to Izium for rescuers from Carpathian rescuers and the Clean with a Heart CF and Ivano-Frankivskcement company.

Ruslan Martsinkiv, Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, announced that they sent radio stations, tablets and machetes to the A4940 military unit.

Lviv oblast

The Polish Foundation for International Solidarity sent a school bus to Pidberiztiv community as part of the School Buses for Ukraine solidarity campaign, thanks to financing from the European Commission in cooperation with the Bank of the Regional Economy. The initiative was implemented as part of the Health Resilience 2 project.

A group of volunteers from the USA visited Truskavets and brought 9 ambulances to the front. Drohobytsk RMA sent a kettle, a gas stove and other necessary equipment to soldiers of the border guard. About UAH 16K were collected for the needs of the Armed Forces by students of grades 4-7 of the Myklashiv school.

In the village of Velikiy Lyubin, the Alley of Glory of Heroes who were killed in the russian-Ukrainian war was planted. Trees were planted in honor of each soldier. In the village of Bystrytsia-Hirska, a memorial sign was opened to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.

Rivne oblast

IAEA experts continue their work at Rivne NPP. The day before, the 15th rotation of the permanent mission took place. New experts got to know the team of RANP specialists, which coordinates their work at the power plant. Preliminary conclusions and recommendations regarding the work of the 14th expert group were also discussed. The 15th IAEA mission will work at the RAPP for the next three weeks, performing tasks related to nuclear safety and security. Permanent missions of the IAEA to Ukrainian nuclear power plants were introduced for the purpose of monitoring the state of safety at nuclear power plants in the conditions of a full-scale war of the russian Federation against Ukraine.

Ternopil oblast

The Department of Digital Transformation of Ternopil oblast and Lanovets City Council signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. This document establishes partnership relations regarding the creation and support of the activities of the Center for Digital Accessibility in Lanovets community.

9 families of IDPs who lost their homes will receive compensation for the purchase of housing. The oblast received subventions in the total amount of UAH 18,1 mln for the purchase of apartments for those who are registered for housing in communities. UAH 7,3 mln to 5 families of IDPs participating in hostilities who are registered as IDPs in Ternopil City Community; UAH 10,8 mln for 4 families of combatants from the number of IDPs.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA presented high state awards to the relatives of three fallen Heroes from Khmelnytskyi oblast. Oleksandr Lyubimov and Viktor Wenger were awarded the 3th degree For Courage Orders (posthumously). Yurii Baran was awarded the Defender of the Fatherland medal (posthumously).

Chernivtsi oblast

Hlybotsk gymnasium received 10 laptops thanks to Chernivtsi RMA, volunteers and the Lebensfahrten e.V. German organization.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Ministry of Defense of Spain reported that new training of the Ukrainian military on the Hawk air defense system began in the country. Several dozen Ukrainian servicemen began training in the use of Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems in Spain.

The Czech Republic continued the training of the Ukrainian military until the end of 2024. Jana Chernokhova, Minister of Defense, told senators that ensuring conditions for the continuation of the training of servicemen from Ukraine is a priority for her. She emphasized that these actions bring the end of the war and the arrival of the long-awaited peace closer.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Pete Buttigieg, US Secretary of Transportation. The Human Rights Watch organization, which protects human rights in over 70 countries, stated that since February 2022, over 3 790 educational institutions have been damaged or destroyed as a result of russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “Ukrainian children have paid a high price in this war, because attacks on education are attacks on their future,” said Hugh Williamson, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch.
