It has been the 693rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation continues to wage a war of aggression. Despite significant losses, it does not abandon its plans for the complete occupation of Ukraine. The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, conducts strikes, and shells both military and civilian targets. The enemy is actively using aircraft and FPV quadcopters, conducting assault operations with the support of armoured vehicles.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

On January 17, there were 71 combat clashes. The enemy launched a total of 6 missile and 69 air strikes, carried out 35 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Private residential and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group were noticed. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. The invaders launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Fedorivka and Vovchansk (Kharkiv oblast). Around 30 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Bleshnia, Karpovychi, Yeline (Chernihiv oblast), Seredyna-Buda, Romashkove, Sosnivka (Sumy oblast), Okip, Kozacha Lopan, Hatyshche, and Pletenivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Kupiansk, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 6 assaults in the vicinity of Synkivka (Kharkiv oblast), where the occupiers made attempts to improve their tactical situation. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Synkivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Lyman, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 assaults near Terny, Yampolivka (Donetsk oblast), and 8x attacks near Makiivka, and Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast). In that area, the enemy, with air support, made failed attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. The invaders launched an airstrike in the area of Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 15 settlements, including Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Yampolivka, Torske, Serebrianka, and Rozdolivka (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks in the vicinities of Hryhorivka, Ivanivske, Andriivka and Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast). Around 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Kalynivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks near Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and 13 more attacks in the vicinities of Sjeverne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). In that area, the occupiers, with air support, made unsuccessful attempts to improve their tactical situation. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 15x settlements, including Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Avdiivka, and Sievierne (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Marinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the invaders in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). In that area, russian invaders, with air support, made 9 attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. They launched an airstrike near the settlement of Kostyantynivka (Donetsk oblast). The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, and Katerynivka were under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Shakhtarske, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 1 attack north of Novodonetske (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy failed to improve its tactical situation. The invaders launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Vodiane (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the russian forces conducted no offensives. The enemy launched an airstrike near Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast), More than 20 settlements, including Malynivka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, and Piatykhatky (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kherson, the russian army fired artillery at the city of Kherson, the settlements of Antonivka (Kherson oblast) and Dmytrivka (Mykolaiv oblast). Besides, the invaders launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiivka, and Tiahynka (Kherson oblast).

The occupiers have not abandoned their intention to drive Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the enemy made 6 unsuccessful assaults.

On January 17, the Ukrainian Air Force launched airstrikes on 7 buildups of troops, weapons and military equipment, 1 command post, and 5 air defense systems of the occupiers. Also, Ukrainian air defense troops shot down 1 Kh-59 air-launched guided missile.

The Ukrainian rocket troops hit 1 buildup of enemy troops, 2 radar stations, 2 air defense systems, 2 artillery systems, and 1 ammunition depot.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, Head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries, said that for the first time in combat conditions, the military used the air defense system of the FrankenSAM project. It shot down a Shahed drone from a distance of 9 kilometres. FrankenSAM consists of three air defense systems: a hybrid of Buk and RIM-7 missiles, a Soviet radar and AIM-9, as well as another, the most powerful, with Patriot elements. This is the first use of such a system. All FrankenSAM air defense systems have been deployed on the battlefield. 

The government has allowed defense enterprises to reserve employees without restrictions. In particular, employees liable for military service of enterprises, institutions and organizations designated by the Ministry for Strategic Industries as critically important in the field of the military-industrial complex are reserved. Regardless of military rank, age and military specialty. There are no restrictions on the number of persons liable for military service who are subject to reservation.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Our defenders repelled 28 attacks in the Liman sector.  According to Volodymyr Fito, Head of the public relations service of the Ground Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy tried to attack near Makiivka and Bilohorivka.

The enemy used 37 kamikaze drones to support the infantry offensive.

The positions of the Defence Forces were shelled 439 times with artillery and mortars.

At the same time, 213 russian servicemen were eliminated and injured.

47 pieces of enemy equipment were destroyed, including two tanks, two BTR-80s, three BMP-2s, MT-LBs, etc.

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that a 61-year-old woman was killed as a result of hostile shelling in Malyi Burluk.  A 10-year-old boy is in hospital, his limb was amputated as a result of the injury. A 14-year-old girl suffered shrapnel wounds. The House of Culture and residential buildings were damaged.

More than 22 settlements in Kharkiv oblast wer under enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including: Udy of Bohodukhiv region, Vovchansk, Okhrymivka, Zemlianky of Chuhuiv region, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove of Kupiansk region, etc.

Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, was hit by enemy airstrikes.

At about 12:30 pm, the enemy attacked the outskirts of Kutkivka village, Kupiansk region. There were no casualties.

At 2.30 pm, the invaders shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv district. A private house was damaged.

Around 6:30 p.m., the enemy attacked Vovchansk with FAB aviation bombs.

At 9:42 pm, the invaders launched 2 S-300 missiles at Kharkiv from russian belgorod.  In Kholodnohirskyi district, the facades of about 20 apartment buildings and the premises of a private medical institution were damaged and 14 cars destroyed. The examination is ongoing.  As a result of the shelling, 17 civilians were injured: 16 women aged 38 to 90 years and a 31-year-old man. Three of them received medical assistance on the spot.  There are 13 victims in the medical facility: a 43-year-old woman is in an extremely critical condition, she sustained a severe penetrating wound. A 39-year-old woman is also in critical condition. The rest are in moderate and light condition. In addition, rescuers evacuated 30 people.

Towards Kupiansk, attacks are decreasing. But this does not mean that the enemy has abandoned their plans. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are in control of the situation. 

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 12.5 hectares of territory and destroyed 201 explosive ordnance. Mine clearance continues.

As a result of the hostile shelling of Kharkiv yesterday, 17 people were injured and 13 are in hospitals. 3 women are in critical condition in the neurosurgery department.  Other patients are in moderate and light condition. All victims are being provided with complex medical care.

Mandatory evacuations are in place in Kindrashivska and Kurylivka communities of Kupiansk region. All evacuees are provided with temporary accommodation, legal advice and support from international humanitarian organisations.

Donetsk oblast

The press service of Donetsk police reported that the russian army focused fire on three settlements: Avdiivka city, Hostre settlement and Nova Poltavka village. Twelve civilian objects were damaged, including 7 residential buildings, 2 kindergartens, a shop and outbuildings.

Donetsk Regional Military Administration reported that towards Pokrovsk, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka and Katerynivka of Marinka community were shelled with artillery. The outskirts of Zhelanne and Semenivka of Ocheretyne community were hit. In Kurakhove community, 4 private houses were damaged in Horishne and the industrial area shelled.

Towards Kramatorsk, the outskirts of Ivanopillia, Dyliivka and Predtechyne of Kostiantynivka community were under attack. In Lyman community, 2 houses were damaged in Torske and Zarichne.

Towards Bakhmut, 3 private houses, an apartment building and an industrial building were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. In Zvanivka community, 2 houses in Zvanivka were damaged, Verkhnokamianske and Pereizne shelled. In Siversk, 4 houses were damaged.

In total, russians shelled settlements 7 times over the day. 82 people, including 11 children, were evacuated from the front line.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, on  January 13, russian airstrikes hit Nevske more than ten times, destroying four households. In less than a month, the enemy destroyed at least 16 houses in this settlement. This refers only to new destruction, as the enemy often targets previously damaged facilities.

The invaders tried to advance near Bilohorivka, Makiivka and Serebrianska forest, but suffered losses.

Krasnorichensk Military Administration delivered warm clothes, blankets, etc. to 40 residents of Nevske.

There is a shortage of paediatricians in the occupied Alchevsk. The situation is similar to other cities of the so-called “lpr” as elderly doctors have retired, young people have left and students are not returning. In the children’s clinic, only one paediatrician provides services and patients wait in line for four to five hours. There is no professional help from russia.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Vadym Tokar, Head of Makariv, reported that the first purchase of housing with the certificate issued under the state  e-Restoration program took place in the community. The new house was purchased by a man whose house was completely destroyed in Kalynivka in February-March 2022 due to russian aggression. 133 housing certificates for the total amount of UAH 346.4 million have been issued in the community to pay compensation for completely destroyed housing.

To overcome to impacts of the war on the mental state of Ukrainians, family doctors, therapists and paediatricians will provide psychological assistance to the population at the primary service level. The innovation is already in effect in Kyiv oblast, in the Vorzel dispensary of the general practice of family medicine.

KCSA reported that free meetings with a psychologist for military families continue in Kyiv. During trainings, workshops and support groups, participants will learn what acute stress is and how the body and mind react to it, what are the reactions to acute stress and how to recognize them, how to help a person under severe stress step by step, as well as about simple and effective exercises to quickly stabilize oneself, overcome anxiety and help others in a critical situation.

The Shalimov National Scientific Center of Surgery and Transplantology reported that Kyiv surgeons used a magnet to remove a fragment that was stuck near the heart of a soldier after being wounded. A 46-year-old man received a severe shrapnel wound in the chest, after which he could not take a full breath and complained of shortness of breath and pain in the heart area. Doctors saw on a computer tomography and removed a fragment of size 8×9 mm stuck in the pericardium.

The Office of the Prosecutor General and the SBI reported that an indictment was sent to the court against nine employees of the “black company of Berkut” because of the shootings of protesters on February 20, 2014 in Kyiv. It was established that on this day on Instytutska Street, the accused executed an illegal order and committed a number of particularly serious crimes in complicity with other law enforcement officers. “Berkut” employees used standard smooth-bore and automatic rifled firearms against the participants of the protest actions. As a result, 48 protesters died and another 90 received gunshot wounds.

The exhibition “Earthly Paths of the Heavenly Hundred” was opened in Kyiv, in memory of those who died during the Revolution of Dignity. The correspondent of Ukrinform reports that the exhibition opened in the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv. It is organized by the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity and the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv. It will last until February 25.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Department of Regional Development of Zhytomyr oblast reported that the implementation of the e-Restoration program continues in the oblast. To date, as part of the program, it has been agreed to pay compensation for damaged real estate objects for the restoration of 544 homes in the amount of UAH 56.9 million. In addition, 90 certificates for the amount of UAH 100.5 million were issued for destroyed housing.

All stationary and mobile Invincibility Centres, which were prepared in Zhytomyr on the eve of the heating season, will open at six o’clock in the morning in case of emergencies. Such decisions were agreed at a meeting of the city executive committee of Zhytomyr City Council.

Zhytomyr RMA reported that the oblast launched the training programme for educational security service officers who will serve in educational institutions. The communities on the border with belarus will be the first to participate in it. The project aims to protect children in schools during a full-scale war and to create a safe environment after the war.

Sumy oblast

 During the past day, the russians carried out 17 shelling attacks on the border of Sumy oblast, 101 explosions were recorded. Bilopillia, Khotyn, Krasnopillia, Shalyhine, Esman, Seredina-Buda and Svesa communities came under shelling. The russians attacked with mortars, artillery and AGS. In addition, the enemy hit the territory of the Bilopillia community with an FPV kamikaze drone (1 hit), and in the Krasnopillia community – an FPV attack with a kamikaze drone (1 hit) and a VOG drop from a UAV (2 hits).

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that at night, the russians carried out 2 shelling attacks on Seredina-Buda community; 3 explosions from mortars were recorded.

Yurii Oliinyk, Director of the State Archives of Sumy oblast, said that archivists of the oblast document the events of the full-scale war, collect photo and video evidence of war crimes committed by the russian army, and record the crimes of the occupiers. According to him, in 2023, 114 units of accounting of photo documents regarding the destruction of buildings and objects of critical infrastructure in the territory of Sumy oblast were deposited in the archive. The fund also contains photos of broken enemy equipment and the documentary film “Sumy. We’ve kicked them ass.”

Chernihiv oblast

Over the past day, russian troops fired mortars at the border of Chernihiv oblast. As reported in the SBGS, the enemy struck 7 strikes on the territory of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community near Hremiach and Mikhalchyna-Sloboda settlements.

Serhii Serhienko, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi RMA announced that they plan to restrict the movement of civilians on the road between the villages of Hremiachka and Leonivka in Semenivka community, where on January 10, the russian SRG shot a car with a resident of the village of Kostobobriv. According to him, after the shooting of a civilian man, his body could not be evacuated for six hours.

Teenagers from Bakhmach toured city and community enterprises with a New Year’s performance in order to raise funds for a car for the Armed Forces. The children prepared for the performance for two months and performed it 24 times, the script was written by Tetiana Levchenko, teacher and volunteer of the public organization Metamorphoses. In this way, the young actors raised UAH 130K to buy and repair a car for the Ukrainian military.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Three enemy Shaheds were shot down over the region at night. The drones were destroyed by the Air Defence Force in Dnipro and Synelnykove region. In total, at night on January 17 the enemy struck Ukraine with 20 Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Of these, 19 were destroyed. As for the shelling, at night the occupiers fired twice at Nikopol with artillery. They shelled Nikopol and Marhanets.

During the day an enemy missile was shot down by the Air Defence over Dnipro region.

During the day the occupiers attacked Nikopol 15 times. They used artillery and launched 12 kamikaze drones. One of the drones hit a civilian car in Marhanets community. A 19-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy were injured. The former was hospitalized in moderate condition and received all necessary medical care. The child was seriously injured and doctors are fighting for his life. Nikopol, Pokrovsk and Myrove communities were also hit. In the regional center, a store and a building were hit. A gas pipeline and a power line were damaged in Myrove community. 

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia oblast sent 5 thermal imagers and a Ukrainian-made UAV to the frontline. This is the 3rd delivery of aid to the intelligence brigade in which many Vinnytsia residents serve. The soldiers who are serving in one of the hottest spots said the equipment will be tested on the battlefield in the coming days.

Kirovohrad oblast

According to the South Operational Command, 1 drone was shot down over Kirovohrad oblast.

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, reported that Kirovohrad oblast is eliminating the consequences of the missile attack’s aftermath on January 16.The wreckage of a downed X-59 missile fell in a village in Kropyvnytskyi region. Fences and seven houses were damaged, their roofs partially destroyed and windows smashed. A farm and more than 350 villagers were left without electricity.

Poltava oblast

Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA, reported that a farm, the State Ecological Inspectorate and Vinnytsia residents sent a boat to the defenders. It was purchased at the military request and will be useful in performing combat missions.

Cherkasy oblast

In Uman, the owner of an atelier sews adaptive clothing for wounded soldiers. She sends all the clothes to the defenders free of charge. The owner was approached by doctors to help wounded soldiers sew several clothes’ sets that would be comfortable to wear in case of injuries and amputations. This type of clothing is made with Velcro and T-shirts with buttons so that the wounded soldier can dress himself. Velcro and buttons are on both sides because it is not known what kind of injury a person has. The only request from the defenders is to have clothes in green colour. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

It is reported that on January 16, the occupiers launched 96 attacks targeting 18 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russian military conducted 17 UAV attacks on Huliaipole, Chervone, Levadne, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Novodarivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Poltavka. Additionally, they struck Orikhiv, MalaTokmachka, and Preobrazhenka with 4 aviation missiles. Artillery shelling included 75 attacks on Bilenke, Novodanylivka, Huliaipole, Charivne, Levadne, Shcherbaky, Piatyhatky, Plavni, Kamianske, and other cities and villages along the front line. There were 11 reports of residential buildings and infrastructure being damaged.

Overnight, the Southern Defense Forces destroyed 1 reconnaissance UAV Supercam and 2 Shahed kamikaze drones over the city of Zaporizhzhia. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack west of Verbove.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts were granted access to the sixth power unit of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. However, they were still denied access to some parts of the turbine hall. The agency’s experts have been unable to access all parts of the turbine hall of each unit since October 18 of last year.

The airmobile brigade within the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received a vehicle funded by children through a charity fair called “With Ukraine in the Heart.” They painted pictures and, together with benefactors, organized a festive auction.

Mykolaiv oblast

On January 16, russian forces shelled the waters of Ochakiv community with artillery. There were no reported casualties. Additionally, during the night of January 17, the air defense forces successfully shot down a Shahed 131/136 UAV over the region. This information was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

The sappers in Mykolaiv oblast received personal protective gear, including special spider boots, Canadian partners as part of the Peace Recovery and Development Program. This was announced by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in Mykolaiv oblast.

The press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv oblast says that on January 16, experts from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine held lessons on mine danger in Mykolaiv kindergartens. Rescuers told children about the danger of mines, where they might encounter them, and the harm they can cause. Police officers reminded them about traffic rules.

Odesa oblast

On the night of January 17, the russian army attacked Odesa with drones. Ukrainian forces successfully shot down 11 drones, with most falling into the water. Debris from a few hit civilian objects, and ten people were injured in the attack. The assault damaged heating networks, leaving 58 buildings without heating, and dozens of structures were damaged. This information was reported by Odesa RMA.

 The South Operational Command reported that the russian army attacked Odesa oblast with Oniks missiles. Agricultural areas and an agro-enterprise in Odesa and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi regions were damaged. A fire broke out at the agro-enterprise, but firefighters quickly extinguished it.

Serhii Kropyva, Deputy Head of the RMA, held a meeting with Dimitrios Doxitsis, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Odesa. The main focus of the meeting was on discussing current security and economic situations in Odesa oblast, as well as Greece’s participation in the post-war recovery of the region. The restoration of the region’s port infrastructure and the preservation of the main regional transport arteries for strategically important export and import cargo flows, ensuring the stable operation of logistics routes for grain shipments through the Danube ports were discussed. 

Kherson oblast

Kherson RMA reported that the russian army shelled Kherson. Three people were injured, and two killed. Attacks also targeted the village of Romashkove in Bilozerka community. As a result of the enemy strikes, private houses, outbuildings, and a car were damaged, and one person was injured. Three people were wounded due to a russian attack on Beryslav.

On January 16, the enemy used 2 FPV drones and dropped 12 fragmentation munitions from UAVs on populated areas of Kherson oblast. The enemy fired artillery at Kherson nine times. Antonivka, Dniprovske, Tiahynka, and Mykhailivka were also shelled. Three civilians were injured. More than a dozen private houses, a warehouse building, and a power line were damaged.

Counter-battery combat continues in the Southern Defense Forces zone of responsibility. The enemy tried to dislodge Ukrainian units from positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River. The enemy carried out 6 unsuccessful assaults yesterday. The Ukrainian military continues to expand the bridgehead, holding positions firmly and inflicting losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment. The occupiers remain active in aerial reconnaissance, continue pressing with artillery shelling, and use various types of strike drones.

The enemy lost 16 occupiers, 1 howitzer, 1 ground artillery reconnaissance station SNAR-10 Leopard, 1 reconnaissance Orlan-10 UAV, and 9 units of armoured vehicles on the left bank yesterday. Another enemy observation post was destroyed.

Volunteers from the humanitarian center Proliska Kherson visit the sites affected by enemy shelling on a daily basis. The mission provided materials for emergency repairs of damaged housing, such as OSB sheets, tarpaulins, and building kits, to 31 residents of Central, Dniprovskyi, and Korabelnyi districts in Kherson. Volunteers also assisted 100 residents of Bilozerska.

Dariivka community received a new fire truck from Germany, equipped with everything necessary for firefighting and emergency response. This assistance became possible thanks to the financial support of the German government under the PHOENIX4UA project.

The charitable foundation Ranok Vidrodzhennia (Renaissance Morning) delivered another batch of coal to Bilozirka community. Local residents received 309 tons to survive the winter in their homes, with these supplies expected to last until spring.

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council sent 3 Lenovo V15 G4 IAH laptops, 2 HP LaserJet 135a laser printers and an Epson EcoTank L3210 inkjet printer to Lutsk Zonal Department of the Military Law and Order Service.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Regional Council held a meeting with representatives of the Hungarian community of Zakarpattia. They discussed the functioning of business in the conditions of war and mobilization, the interaction of communities with representatives of territorial recruitment centres, new legislation regarding the language of national minorities, etc.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Artur Franchuk, founder of the Ukraine is Europe French humanitarian organization, a native of Ukraine, who currently deals with the issue of helping Ukrainians who have suffered because of the war. The organization is ready to expand its activities in Prykarpattia as well.

The special emergency rescue squad of the State Emergency Service of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast received a quad bike, a four-seater catamaran, a quadcopter and a professional 3D printer worth about UAH 1 mln thanks to the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland within the framework of the Polish Aid program.

The anti-aircraft machine gun battalion formed in the Carpathians received 24 thermal imagers worth over UAH 1.4 mln thanks to the regional programs to support military formations.

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that they sent 20 FPV drones to the 7th separate rifle battalion.

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council announced a tender for the purchase of 1K kamikaze drones. It is planned to purchase 10K drones for the military in 2024.

Lviv oblast

Lviv RMA reported that the readiness of Invincibility Centers was checked. There are 864 Invincibility Centers in the oblast. Their key task is to provide the population with everything necessary in the event of a critical situation, blackouts, etc.

Lviv City Council held a meeting with UNDP representatives. They discussed support for city entrepreneurs and implementation of educational programs.

Municipal enterprises of Lviv oblast received generators from benefactors. Aid to local utility companies was provided by the office of UNHCR in cooperation with the Coordination Center at Lviv RMA.

A renovated shelter is now functioning at Novoyavorivka Hospital named after Yurii Lipa. The shelter is equipped with everything necessary according to the standards. Also, if surgical intervention is necessary, there is a specially equipped room where such manipulations can be carried out.

Stepan Kuibida, Director of the Department of Economic Policy of Lviv RMA, reported that about a thousand enterprises of Lviv oblast suffered as a result of the cyber attack on Kyivstar. As of now, information about the damage is still being collected and processed.

American journalists and representatives of the tourism industry had been travelling through the oblast for ten days. They collected a lot of photo and video materials and stories that will be published in US publications to introduce Americans to Lviv oblast and invite them to come here for tourism purposes. Budget funds were not spent on promotion. Everything was covered by the establishments that hosted the guests.

The Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure of Lviv City Council reported that the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs agreed to the free transfer of 11 tram cars from the city of Bern to Lviv. All trams are operational and currently running on the Bern lines. Lviv will receive them during July-December this year.

Rivne oblast

Training on veteran policy implementation will be held in Rivne oblast. A major task of this initiative is to improve the mechanisms for implementing veterans policies at the state, regional, and especially community levels.

Volodymyr Petriv received the regional prize in the field of theatre art for 2023. Volodymyr Petriv intends to donate the UAH 25K award to the needs of the Azov brigade.

Rivne City Council announced a new tender to purchase Mavic 3 Thermal drones from the city budget. The preliminary purchase amount is UAH 20 mln. With these funds, they plan to purchase 85 powerful and modern drones, which will soon be sent to military units on the front line.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil RMA held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the National Commission that carries out state regulation in the fields of energy and communal services, the Ukrenerho NEK and the USAID Energy Security Project on the provision of technical assistance development of a portfolio of distributed generation implementation projects to strengthen the energy security of communities. Participants discussed the priority tasks and further cooperation in the implementation of the Plan for providing technical assistance to communities.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

State awards were posthumously presented to four families of Heroes from Khmelnytskyi. Volodymyr Kreminsky was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order; Oleksandr Fil with the III degree For Courage Order, Mykola Kucheruk with the III degree For Courage Order, and Anton Farvashchuk with the FOR MILITARY SERVICE TO UKRAINE medal.

Chernivtsi oblast

In Chernivtsi, there was a round table held with representatives of the Ukrainian-Austrian Association and the Free Nation movement. They discussed investment projects that can be implemented in the oblast and prospects for cooperation with Austrian business.

The RMA reported that Artur Pylypenko from Bukovyna was awarded with the For the Defense of Ukraine award by the President of Ukraine.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

A new meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format will be held on January 23.

The European Commission supported the decision to start screening the legislation of Ukraine, namely, analysis of the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to comply with EU law.

Germany announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine, includes: ammunition for the Leopard 1 main battle tank; 8 armoured personnel carriers; 30 Marder infantry fighting vehicles; 15 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns; 25 RQ-35 HEIDRUN reconnaissance drones; 50 SatCom communication terminals; 5 cars for the border service; 16 Zetros trucks and materials for disposal of explosive ammunition.

The French President announced the transfer of 40 additional long-range SCALP missiles and “hundreds of bombs” to Ukraine. Emmanuel Macron is also going to visit Kyiv in February to sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine.

Andris Spruds, Head of the Latvian Ministry of Defense, announced that his country headed the “coalition of drones for Ukraine”. Almost 20 countries joined it. As part of the coalition, it is planned to arm the Ukrainian military with thousands of new unmanned aerial vehicles.

On January 18, the European Parliament will consider the resolution on depriving Hungary of the right to vote in the Council of the EU. In the document, MEPs also call for an investigation into the legality of the European Commission’s decision to unfreeze €10 bln for Budapest.

Daigu Mierinu, Speaker of Latvia, arrived in Ukraine. “Latvia is and will be with Ukraine until the russian aggression is eradicated from the entire territory of Ukraine. We will continue our military support to facilitate a quick victory for Ukraine. We will never get tired,” she said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda. They discussed the implementation of the Peace Formula.
