The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back russian invaders’ advance.
On 8 November, there were 116 combat engagements.
Communities of the settlements of Huta-Studenetska, Senkivka in Chernihiv oblast; Khliborob, Bachivsk, Novovasylivka in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled ten enemy attacks, and another engagement is ongoing. The invaders’ aviation carried out eight strikes, dropping 14 guided bombs. In addition, the enemy carried out 90 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, including eight from multiple launch rocket systems.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the Defense Forces stopped nine enemy attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Synelnyky, Tykhe and towards the settlements of Dvorichanske and Kolodiazne, five more clashes are ongoing.
Towards Kupiansk, the Defense Forces repelled four out of five enemy attacks towards Petropavlivka and Pishchane. The fighting continues.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out two attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlement of Derylove and towards Korovyn Yar, the fighting continues.
Towards Slaviansk, russians tried to advance on the positions of Ukrainian troops ten times in the vicinity of Yampol, Serebrianka, Dronivka and Fedorivka. The Defense Forces stopped eight enemy attacks, two clashes are ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled an enemy attack in the vicinity of Zaliznianske.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the enemy tried to penetrate Ukrainian defenses eight times near Yablunivka, Shcherbinivka and towards Sofiivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 57 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Volodymyrivka, Fedorivka, Nykanorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Promin, Lysivka, Pokrovsk, Zelene, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Kotliarivka, Horikhove and Filiia. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and have already repelled 52 attacks.
Towards Oleksandrivka, Ukrainian defenders stopped five assault actions by enemy troops. The enemy is trying to advance in the vicinity of the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Orestopol, Pryvillia and Krasnohirske. Velykymykhaylivka was hit by an airstrike.
Towards Huliaipole, there were four clashes in the vicinity of the settlements of Uspenivka and Novouspenivske.
Towards Orikhiv, there was an attack by enemy units – the occupiers tried to advance towards Plavni. Enemy aviation struck Orikhiv.
Towards Kherson, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to attack.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
There were 181 combat clashes in the oblast.
▪️ Towards Southern Sloboda, 11 combat clashes took place in the areas of Vovchansk, Kamyanka and in the direction of Dvorichanske.
▪️Towards Kupiansk, there were nine attacks. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Kupiansk, Pishchane, Borova, Andriivka and towards Petropavlivka.

16 settlements in Kharkiv oblast have been hit by enemy strikes.
▪️As a result of the shelling, one person was killed and 10 injured.
In the village of Korotych, Pisochyn community, women aged 39 and 56 and men aged 31, 35, 28, 38, 26, 36 were injured; in the city of Chuhuiv, a 58-year-old woman was injured; in the village of Hrushivka, Kindrashivka community, a 43-year-old man was injured; in the village of Rokytne, Novovodolazne community, a 48-year-old man was killed.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons:
▪️13 Iskander-M missiles;
▪️8 GABs;
▪️41 Geran-2 UAVs;
▪️2 Molniya UAVs;
▪️1 FPV drone;
▪️28 UAVs (type to be determined).
The enemy attacked the critical infrastructure of the oblast.
As a result of the shelling, there is a temporary lack of electricity supply for residents of the region.
In the city of Barvinkove, power supply was restored for all consumers who were disconnected after the attack by the invaders on November 6.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️In Kupiansk region, a car was damaged (village Borova), 2 private houses, an apartment building, a car (village Prykolotne), a private house (village Hrushivka);
▪️In Kharkiv region, a gas station, 3 cars (village Korotych), 2 private houses, 2 cars (village Mala Danylivka);
▪️In Lozova region, a civilian enterprise was damaged (city Lozova);
▪️A private house was damaged in Chuhuiv region (Shevchenkove Pershe village).
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 143 people. 37 people remained. A total of 11,204 people have been registered at the Point since it began operating.
Donetsk oblast
Two civilians were killed and three wounded in Donetsk oblast as a result of shelling.
On November 7, russian troops launched 2,449 strikes on the front line and residential sector.
9 settlements were under fire: the cities of Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Mykolaivka, the villages of Malotaranivka, Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka, the villages of Rai-Oleksandrivka, and Sydorove.
30 civilian objects were destroyed, including 16 residential buildings.
▪️russians attacked Kostiantynivka with a GAB-250 bomb, FPV drones, and artillery – one person was killed and another wounded. An apartment building and a private house, a store, and 2 civilian cars were damaged.
▪️One person was killed and one person was wounded in Dobropillia. The enemy sent two GAB-250 bombs and a Geran-2 UAV to the city. 2 apartment buildings and a private house, a shop, an administrative building, and an express delivery service building were damaged.
▪️A civilian was injured in Lyman as a result of an FPV drone hit.
▪️russia struck Druzhkivka 7 times: with two GAB-250 bombs and Molniya-2, Italmas, and KUB drones. An apartment building and three private houses, 2 shops, a hairdresser, and critical infrastructure were destroyed. An infrastructure facility was damaged in Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka.
▪️A private house and an administrative building were damaged in Mykolaivka. In Rai-Oleksandrivka, enemy drones damaged 2 private homes.
▪️A private house was destroyed by a Molniya-2 UAV strike in Malotaranivka. The occupiers shelled Sydorove, Sviatohorsk community, with Smerch MLRS, damaging 2 private houses.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
As a result of Russian strikes on the night of November 8, two thermal power plants (TPPs) were forced to shut down. These are the Zmiiv TPP in the Kharkiv region and the Trypilska TPP in the Kyiv region. The state-owned company Centrenergo reported that countless missiles and drones — several per minute — targeted the same TPPs that had been restored after Russia’s devastating attack in 2024.
During the night of November 8, the Vyshhorod, Obukhiv, Bucha, and Boryspil districts of the Kyiv region came under Russian fire.
In the Vyshhorod district, four women were injured due to falling debris from an enemy UAV. Twenty private houses, three cars, outbuildings, and garage facilities were damaged in the area. Windows were shattered, facades and roofs were scarred, and glazing was destroyed.
In the Obukhiv and Bucha districts, firefighters extinguished fires at infrastructure facilities caused by the missile attack. In the Obukhiv district, one man sustained injuries.
In the Boryspil district, one private house was damaged.

During the night, Russia attacked the capital with drones. In the Pechersk district, rescuers responded to two calls: at one location, four light trucks caught fire, damaging two nearby buildings and a car; at another address, debris from a downed UAV ignited, but the fire was extinguished before the emergency crews arrived, according to the State Emergency Service (SES).
In Kyiv and the surrounding region, emergency power outages were introduced by order of Ukrenergo, the national energy company. Later, authorities switched to scheduled stabilization outages and updated the outage timetables. Specialists are working around the clock to restore full electricity supply to every household.
Due to the emergency power cuts, several trolleybus routes in Kyiv were delayed, according to Kyivpastrans.
In the capital’s energy facilities, repair work continues around the clock to restore equipment damaged by Russian attacks, said Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko. He also noted that the city continues to implement the concept of distributed cogeneration. This winter, cogeneration units will provide an additional 100 MW of electricity for critical infrastructure.
In Kyiv, a farewell ceremony was held for photographer and soldier Kostiantyn Huzenko — first in St. Michael’s Cathedral, and later on Independence Square. Hundreds of people came to pay their respects, including his colleagues and fellow servicemen. The Marines presented the fallen soldier’s parents with his military flag and beret. According to the media project Ukraїner, of which Huzenko was a part, he was killed during an enemy attack in eastern Ukraine.
Zhytomyr oblast
Recently, as part of the humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania, the Main Department of the State Emergency Service (SES) in the Zhytomyr region received five vehicles from the Foundation for the Support of Civic Initiatives together with international partners. The arrival of this equipment will enhance the mobility and efficiency of the Rescue Service units in responding to emergencies of various types.
Sumy oblast
During the night of 8 November, the russian army struck the centre of Bobryk village in Mykolaivka community by a Shahed drone. The attack damaged the local school, village club, library, and canteen. Five households were also affected by the blast wave.
The town council reported that on 7 November, russian forces twice attacked Vorozhba community by drones, damaging a critical infrastructure facility and two vehicles.
According to the State Emergency Service, throughout the previous day, rescue workers extinguished fires in three communities of Sumy oblast caused by russian strikes. Non-residential buildings caught fire in Sady and Mykolaivka communities, while a russian drone attack the previous evening ignited a residential area in Putyvl community.
The Regional Military Administration informed that between the morning of 7 November and the morning of 8 November, russian forces carried out 72 attacks on 31 settlements across 17 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy, Shostka, and Konotop regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (up to 20 strikes), UAVs (up to 10 strikes), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (up to 10 strikes), as well as conducting FPV drone attacks. The air raid alert in the oblast lasted 23 hours and 34 minutes during the day.
Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- In Vorozhba community, a civil infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Putyvl community, a non-residential building and private vehicles were damaged;
- In Sady community, a non-residential building was damaged;
- In Mykolaivka settlement community, a school building was damaged.
In Shostka community, a drone strike during the night of 6 November damaged a non-residential building, residential houses, and a civil infrastructure facility.
During the day, 17 people were evacuated from border communities through the joint efforts of local authorities, the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations.
The National Police reported that in Sumy oblast, police neutralised the warhead of a russian drone weighing about 50 kilograms. The explosive fell in a field and could have detonated at any moment, as the warhead did not explode upon impact but became embedded in the ground.
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that on 7 November, Ms. Bernadette Castel-Hollingsworth, the UNHCR Representative in Ukraine, visited Sumy oblast for the first time. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation and supporting joint humanitarian projects. Through partnership with UNHCR, ten modular houses have already been installed in Nyzhnia Syrovatka for 63 people, and nine houses for 60 evacuees in Lypova Dolyna community.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that last night, the enemy carried out a combined strike — using drones and missiles — on a critical infrastructure facility in Pryluky region. A fire broke out at the site of impact and was extinguished by firefighters.
Chernihiv Border Detachment informed that throughout 7 November, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Horodnia. The enemy conducted a mortar strike (1 explosion), dropped six guided aerial bombs, and launched Molniya- and Shahed-type UAVs (1 explosion each), six FPV drones, and two explosive devices from UAVs. Six settlements came under fire, including Semenivka town.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that on the eve of the All-Ukrainian Day of Cultural Workers and Folk Artists, the President of Ukraine posthumously awarded the Chief Custodian of Hryhorii Galagan Chernihiv Regional Art Museum and combat medic of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, Maryna Hrytsenko, with the Order “For Merit”, Third Class. The award was accepted by her daughter, Yuliia.
The Regional Military Administration announced that Kozelets community in Chernihiv oblast has signed a twinning and friendship agreement with the parish of Ash-cum-Ridley in the United Kingdom. The document provides for strengthening ties between the communities and developing cultural, educational, economic, and social cooperation.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Regional Council, reported that in Dnipro region, russian forces launched missile and drone strikes on Dnipro city. A drone hit a nine-storey residential building, killing a woman and injuring 11 people, including two children aged 2 and 13. Another ten residents received psychological assistance. A temporary shelter for up to 100 people has been opened. A fire broke out, destroying apartments in two stairwells across several floors. An infrastructure facility was also damaged.
In Samara region, three people were injured following a drone attack that set a private house on fire. In Pavlohrad region, an enterprise, a garage, and a shop were damaged. In Nikopol region, the enemy shelled Nikopol by artillery and attacked by drones throughout the night and into the morning. In Synelnykove region, russian forces struck Pokrovske and Petropavlivka communities, damaging infrastructure, a business, and two vehicles.
In Nikopol region, the enemy attacked the regional centre as well as Myrove and Pokrovske communities by artillery and drones. A fire broke out, destroying a private house and damaging 11 other homes, an outbuilding, a car, and power lines. Updated information indicates that a drone strike during the night damaged another outbuilding and a vehicle in Pokrovske community.
In Dnipro region, power lines were damaged during daytime strikes. In Pavlohrad region, drone attacks damaged local infrastructure.
Kirovohrad oblast
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, during the night, russian forces launched a missile and drone attack on the territory of a branch of Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant in Svitlovodsk. Nearly 15 drone impacts and two missile strikes were recorded, causing fires on two transformers.
Poltava oblast
The Regional Military Administration informed that during the night, the enemy launched a massive strike on Poltava oblast, targeting energy infrastructure facilities. One person was injured.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that during the night, air defence units in Cherkasy oblast shot down eight russian drones.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 8 November, the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled 5 russian attacks in Orikhiv and Huliaipole regions.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that on 7 November, the russian military carried out 826 strikes on 21 towns and villages across Zaporizhzhia oblast. This included 560 drone attacks, mostly by FPV drones, targeting Yuriivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Novomykolaivka, Nove, Novouspenivka, Zelene and Charivne.
The General Staff reported that on 7 November, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 32 russian attacks in Oleksandrivka region, which lies at the junction of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. At the same time, no combat engagements took place in Orikhiv and Huliaipole regions.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Mykolaiv RMA, during the night of 8 November, the russian military attacked Mykolaiv by Shahed-type drones, striking an industrial facility. Air defence forces destroyed 3 drones overnight. On 7 November, russian troops used artillery and FPV drones to attack Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities. In Dmytrivka village, a house was damaged.
Odesa oblast
According to the Air Force Command of Ukraine, during the night, there was a threat of ballistic missile attacks launched from Crimea against Odesa oblast.
Kherson oblast
Referring to the Kherson RMA, russian troops shelled Bilozirka in Kherson oblast by artillery. A projectile struck near the house of a 37-year-old man, who sustained a blast injury, concussion and head trauma.
Around 2pm, the russian forces attacked a medical facility in central part of Kherson by a drone, damaging the building’s facade, windows and 2 vehicles. There were no casualties reported.

The RMA reported that earlier in the morning, russian forces shelled Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, injuring 2 men.
During the night, russian troops dropped explosives from a drone on Rozlyv village in Kherson oblast. A 38-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised with a concussion, shrapnel wound to the torso and blast trauma.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 7 November, as a result of russian shelling across Kherson oblast 2 people were killed and 10 injured. 5 high-rise buildings, 9 private houses, a garage and several vehicles were damaged. The russian forces attacked 32 settlements.
The CMA informed that in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, around 9pm, a 50-year-old woman was injured in a russian strike. She sustained a blast injury and an open fracture of the left shin and remains in serious condition.
Also, in Dniprovskyi district, a 58-year-old woman was attacked by a russian drone. She later sought medical assistance and was diagnosed with a blast injury and concussion; her condition is reported as mild.
The Southern Defence Forces reported that on 7 November, near Antonivskyi road bridge on Prydniprovsk area, Ukrainian forces repelled 2 russian attacks.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
The oblast said goodbye to veteran Petro Onyshchuk. He was seriously injured on the 1st day of the full-scale invasion of Luhansk oblast. As a result of the explosion, he lost his sight – his eyes were injured by the shock wave. The veteran underwent a dozen operations in Ukraine and abroad, was treated for a long time in Germany, but his sight could not be restored. For personal courage and heroism during the fighting, Petro Onyshchuk was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order.
Zakarpattia oblast
Zakarpattia City Council reported that Andrii Kashuba, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, checked the readiness of the Invincibility Points in Uzhhorod during a working visit to the oblast.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The National Guard soldiers for training received an interactive shooting range from Ivano-Frankivsk community.
Lviv oblast
Residents of Strii community Olena and Maia Ozerov, the mother and sister of the deceased Defender of the Fatherland Mykola Ozerov, contributed over UAH 5,000 to the collection for the pickup truck for the soldiers.
The charity of the Create Good team, grateful to the residents and guests of Zhydachiv, raised over UAH 30,000 to purchase a ground drone for their fellow countryman’s brigade.
The Charity Patriotic Race BESKYDY TRAIL 2025 was held in Skole, during which over UAH 180,000 was raised.

A vocational education institution in Rivne oblast was modernized with funds from a European project. The renovation of the college took place within the framework of the EU4Skills: Modernization of the infrastructure of the vocational education system in Ukraine project. The volume of investment by the European Union is over EUR 2m. Another EUR 334,000 was allocated for the purchase of educational equipment.
Ternopil oblast
The 105th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade received 3 GS-FPV-TV-6000 Sovenia received electronic support systems from Ternopil community.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In Khmelnytskyi, 82 families of the deceased received financial assistance. The total amount of assistance is UAH 1.8m.
