The aggressor continues to pursue its plans to occupy the territory of Ukraine and continues to put pressure on the positions of our units. The Ukrainian Defence Forces are taking measures to disrupt the enemy’s actions, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment.
In total, 101 combat engagements have taken place.
Cynical shelling from the territory of the russian Federation resulted in damage to border settlements, including Stepok, Bila Bereza, Kucherivka, Stara Huta, Lemishchyno, Semyikyne, Prokhody in Sumy oblast; and Bleshnya in Chernihiv oblast. Riasne and Velyka Pysarivka in Sumy oblast were hit by air strikes.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy tried to advance once near Tykhe. They launched airstrikes with guided bombs in the areas of Vovchansk and Zakharivka.
Ukrainian defence forces successfully stopped one enemy’s attempt to advance towards Kupiansk, towards Pishchane, and two combat engagements are still ongoing in the areas of Hlushkivka and Novoosynove.
Towards Lyman, the enemy attacked 12 times in the areas of Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Kolodiazi, Zelena Dolyna, Olhivka, Lipove and Ridkodub. One firefight is currently underway.
Towards Siversk, two combat engagements took place in the areas of Hryhorivka and Verkhnokamianske. Ukrainian defence forces successfully stopped both enemy attempts to advance.
Towards Kramatorsk, four combat engagements continue in the direction of Maiske, Bila Hora and near Chasiv Yar. One attack by the invaders was successfully stopped by the Defence Forces.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked in the areas of Toretsk, Druzhba and in the direction of Dyliivka, making seven attempts to improve their position. Four combat engagements are ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, the invaders have made 42 attempts to force our defenders out of their positions in the areas of Hnativka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Novoserhiivka, Stara Mykolaivka, Nova Poltavka, Oleksiivka and in the areas of Udachne, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Kotliarivka, Troitske, Andriivka and Bohdanivka. Ukrainian defence forces are holding back the enemy’s offensive and repelled 32 enemy attacks.
Towards Novopavlivka, enemy units attacked the positions of our troops 30 times near the settlements of Kostiantynopil, Rivne, Novopil, Novosilka, Pryvilne, Zelene Pole, Shevchenko, Bahatyr, and also launched air strikes in the areas of Novopil and Zelene Pole. Seven attacks are still ongoing.
The enemy attacked our defenders’ positions four times in the area of Vysoke towards Huliaipole. One combat engagement is still ongoing. At the same time, he carried out air strikes on Huliaipole.
Three combat engagements took place towards Orikhiv. The enemy is trying to advance near Novoandriivka, Pyatikhatky and Stepove. He launched air strikes with guided bombs in the area of Orikhove.
Vesele, Beryslav and Burhunka towards Kherson were subjected to enemy air strikes today.
Towards Kursk, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine attacks by the enemy. The enemy also carried out six air strikes, dropping 12 guided bombs, and made 159 artillery attacks. The fighting is currently ongoing in three locations.
The New York Times, citing UN data, reported that the number of deaths and injuries among Ukrainian civilians has increased since the start of ceasefire negotiations. In the first 24 days of April 2025, 848 cases of civilian deaths or injuries were recorded, which is 46% more than in the same period last year.
The Air Force informed that on the night of 4 May, russia attacked Ukraine with 165 attack drones and imitation drones. They managed to shoot down 69 of them, while another 80 were declared “locally lost”.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
Yesterday 253 combat engagements were registered. Towards Kharkiv, five combat engagements took place near Vovchansk.
Six enemy attacks were registered towards Kupiansk. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Zahryzove and towards Novoozynove and Hlushkivka.
Attacks
Andrii Besedin, Head of the City Military Administration, reported that three women suffered an acute stress reaction and another one sustained leg injuries as a result of air strikes on the central part of Kupiansk around 4am.
Yesterday 4 settlements and Kupiansk city suffered from enemy strikes. A man was killed in Borova village and four women wounded in Kupiansk.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast:
▪️11 CAB;
▪️18 unguided aerial missiles;
▪️9 Shahed type UAVs;
▪️8 UAVs of unspecified type.
Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:
▪️In Izium region, 3 administrative buildings, 8 private households, 3 apartment buildings, a post office, an educational institution, a warehouse building and 2 cars were damaged;
▪️ In Kupiansk region, an administrative building, a kindergarten building, and 2 apartment buildings were destroyed. 4 private houses and 2 cars were damaged;
▪️ In Kharkiv region, a private house was damaged.
The RMA reported that russia fired 10 Shaheds at Izium region: six of them hit Izium and four more hit Levkivka. According to the State Emergency Service, a drone hit the post office building in Izium on the night of 4 May, causing a 500 sq m fire, setting fire to firewood in an open area and the balcony of a multi-storey residential building. In Levkivka, Izium region, a 200 sq m educational institution, a warehouse building and grass in an open area also burned.

Other
8 firefighters have been killed and 60 others injured in Kharkiv oblast since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A fire in an ecosystem near Izyum is being extinguished. Units of the State Emergency Service, forestry workers, and pyrotechnics are involved in extinguishing the fire. Yevhen Vasylenko, Spokesman of the Regional Rescue Department, stated that ammunition left by russian troops during the occupation is detonating in the forest. Valerii Marchenko, Head of the City Military Administration, reported that evacuations have begun in Izium region due to a fire in the ecosystem, as the fire has reached houses near the forest.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
The General Staff reported that a record number of attacks were recorded in two areas of defence in Donetsk oblast yesterday. On 3 May, russian invaders attacked 113 times towards Pokrovsk and fought 66 battles towards Novopavlivka.
Earlier, the largest number of attacks towards Pokrovsk was recorded on 18 January 2025 – when russian troops conducted 98 assaults. The previous record for the number of battles towards Novopavlivka was recorded on 21 December 2024 – 47 attacks by the occupation army.
The General Staff reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the command post of the 6th motorised rifle division of the russian army near Bakhmut.
Taras Myshak, Spokesman of the 59th Brigade, informed that russian troops are putting pressure on the western flank towards Pokrovsk and are trying to move towards Dnipropropetrovsk oblast. The occupants are also trying to take fire control of the road between Pokrovsk and Pavlohrad.
Attacks
Donetsk Regional Military Administration reported that in the morning, russian troops launched a drone strike on Druzhkivka. Three people, aged 65 to 69, were injured.
After midnight, russian troops shelled Bilozerske, Sloviansk and Krynytsi in Novodonetsk community. There was no information about casualties. Infrastructure facilities were damaged.
The CMA informed that at night, the occupiers attacked Zaliznychnyi district of Sloviansk with drones.

Three people were killed and two more wounded by russia yesterday. Police recorded 3,596 hostile attacks along the frontline and in the residential sector.
17 settlements were under attack: Bilozerske, Kostiantynivka, Myrnohrad, Andriivka, Vesela Hora, Dorozhne, Zatyshok, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Komar, Oleksandr-Kalynove, Samarske, Sviatohorivka, Sofiivka, Raiske, Shakhove, Yablunivka. 97 civilian objects were damaged, including 68 residential buildings.
Russians dropped an UMPB D-30SN bomb on Komar, killing two civilians and damaging two private houses.
In Myrnohrad, a person died as a result of shelling, and 6 private houses were damaged.
The enemy struck Kostiantynivka with 9 bombs, drones and MLRS, injuring a civilian, damaging 1 apartment building and 13 private houses, an administrative building and communications.
One civilian was wounded in Raiske of Druzhkivka community, 7 private houses were damaged.
The invaders launched three KAB-250 bombs at Oleksandro-Kalynove, damaging 2 apartment blocks and 13 private houses. Three more bombs exploded in Ivanopillia, damaging 17 private houses. In Yablunivka, an enemy bomb damaged three private houses and an educational institution.
Drone attacks in Vesela Hora of Novodonetsk community damaged a shop, administrative building, and cultural institution; and an educational institution in Sofiivka of Druzhkivka community.
In Bilozerske, a russian drone attacked an educational institution, and in Sviatohorivka of Dobropilial community, drones damaged three private houses and a civilian car. In Shakhove, three UAVs hit a hospital. A private house was damaged in Zatyshok of Shakhove community.
Other
In Donetsk oblast, since the start of the full-scale war, most parks and squares have not been treated for ticks due to the danger of mines. Instead, Donetsk oblast is an endemic area for tick-borne borreliosis. Last year, 63 cases of the disease were recorded here, which is 2.5 times more than in 2023. In the first three months of this year, two people fell ill with Lyme disease.
Luhansk oblast
The enemy attempted to storm our positions towards Lyman 16 times. According to the RMA, the enemy had air support in this area of the frontline. He used multiple launch rocket systems three times. They used cannon artillery 16 times. Combat missions were carried out by 195 UAVs.
Lysychansk has not had a centralised water supply for three years. Recently, the invaders reported that they had repaired 15km of the network, but this did not radically change the situation. Water is supplied only to certain neighbourhoods of the city. Everyone else continues to use wells and rely on the delivery of industrial water, which has become a rare occurrence over the past year.
In Siverskodonetsk, nursery school children are involved in the campaign. Kids attending the kindergarten were given diplomas for winning military-themed drawing and poetry competitions as part of the federal project Patriotic Education of russian Citizens. Schools, higher education institutions, and youth spaces are no longer enough for russians to propagate war.
Oleksii Kharchenko, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that in the temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast, miners are refused to take into account “harmful” working conditions when calculating their pensions and are granted a regular pension. This is done at the request of the russian pension fund.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
According to Kyiv Regional Military Administration, rescuers spent the night extinguishing fires after russian drones attacked residential areas. The injured children and adults were provided with the necessary assistance. Houses and cars were also damaged.
Information on the consequences of the enemy air attack on Kyiv, as of 7:30am on 04.05.2025. The air raid lasted for 1 hrs. 01 min.
Hostile UAV attacks and the falling of debris from downed air targets were recorded:
Obolonskyi district:
– a fire on the upper floors of a multi-storey building with spread to the roof.
– 7 cars caught fire in an open area.
– debris falling in the yard of a house.
– damage to the building of a kindergarten.
Shevchenkivskyi district:
– falling debris and fire in a non-residential area.
Sviatoshynskyi district:
– three one-storey private houses caught fire.
11 people sustained injuries of varying degrees. Two children were among them.

According to Suspilne, fires broke out in three districts of the capital. In Obolonskyi district, russians hit the Dream Town-2 shopping and entertainment centre and surrounding buildings, and cars burned down. As a result of falling debris, a fire broke out on the 12th floor of a residential building. According to the correspondent, windows were smashed. A woman who lived in the apartment that caught fire as a result of the hit survived as the drone debris landed in the next room, but the apartment is beyond repair. Overnight, Tymur Tkachenko, Head of KCMA, informed that two children, aged 14 and 17, were injured in Obolonskyi district as a result of the russian drone attack. In total, according to the State Emergency Service, 11 people were injured in Kyiv.

Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration, announced that a meeting was held in Borodianka with representatives of the State Agency for Infrastructure Reconstruction and Development, local authorities, representatives of Kyiv branch of Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine LLC, DTEK Kyiv Regional Power Grids, contractors, technical supervision and designers with the participation of the local community. During the meeting, the reconstruction of damaged residential buildings and infrastructure, as well as the arrangement of a recreation area and a fishing area in the urban park were inspected.
On 4 May 2025, a traditional Sunday rally in support of captured and missing soldiers at the front was held in Kyiv. Participants stood along the bridge in Muromets Park, reminding the authorities and society that they have been waiting for their relatives to return for three years.
On 4 May 2025, a race dedicated to the 11th anniversary of the Azov Brigade took place in the Muromets Park in Kyiv. It was a charity event, and the participants donated to the needs of the military. Soldiers and veterans of the 12th Azov Brigade and their relatives, soldiers from other brigades, cadets and other concerned Kyiv residents took part in the charity run.
Zhytomyr oblast
On 2 May, an online meeting was held to discuss the preparation of Zhytomyr oblast citizens for national resistance. During the meeting, the participants focused on key areas of development of the system for preparing the population for resistance in the face of a military threat. They also discussed ways to improve the network of Centres for Preparing Citizens for National Resistance, re-profiling existing institutions and creating new structures. The organisers emphasised cooperation with civil society organisations to expand the scope of activities.
On 3 May, more than 100 people took part in another action ‘’Obscurity and Captivity Kill‘’ in Zhytomyr. This time, the relatives of prisoners of war and missing persons dedicated one of the performances to Mother’s Day, where mothers of defenders held up children’s photos of their sons who stood up for Ukraine and with whom they lost contact during the war. The co-organiser of the action, Tetiana Hoidyk, told Suspilne about this.
On 1 May 2025, a senior soldier Serhii Shkira, a resident of Malyn, was killed while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast. The 45-year-old soldier served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a mechanic-driver of a road equipment group of an engineering company. He was killed near the village of Zelene Pole.
On 4 May 2025, after a long struggle with his injuries, Serhii Vozniuk, born in 1984 in Berdychiv district, died. Serhii was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the first days of the full-scale invasion on 26 February 2022 under general mobilisation. Рe served in the military unit A0409 (30th separate mechanised brigade), taking part in numerous battles on the front line. During his service, Serhiy was awarded the insignia of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine No. 253 and the medal “For Courage”. However, due to health reasons, he resigned from the service on 4 October 2024. Serhii was unable to survive the consequences of his injuries and died on 4 May 2025.
On 4 May, Zhytomyr City Council posted on its Facebook page that from 5 May, students of Zhytomyr’s secondary schools would return to full-time education. According to the results of the inspection, no exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances were found. On 2 May, due to a fire at a solid waste landfill, the city authorities announced that schools in Zhytomyr would operate in a remote format, while kindergartens would operate as usual. Prosecutors of Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office opened two criminal proceedings over the fire at Zhytomyr solid waste landfill.
Sumy oblast
russian troops carried out 90 attacks on 30 settlements in 10 territorial communities of the oblast. The largest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs and FPV drones. Almost 30 strikes by GABs, 30 attacks by FPV-drones. Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed.
In Krasnopillia community, non-residential buildings, an outbuilding, a private residential building, and a two-story private residential building were damaged.
In Yunakivka community, a non-residential building was damaged. Enemy attacks on the day claimed the life of a civilian resident of Sumy oblast. Two more people were injured.
In Velyka Pysarivka, the russians hit residential streets of the village by guided aerial bombs. A civilian resident was killed.
Bilopillia was shelled by MLRS. Civilian houses, power grid and gas pipeline damaged. Two women sought medical attention. Part of Bilopillia was left without electricity due to shelling. Power engineers are working to restore power.
The air alert in the oblast lasted 11 hours and 22 minutes during the day.
Chernihiv oblast
Russian troops attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast during the day. 18 settlements came under fire. The russians launched FPV-drones, dropped explosives from UAVs, fired mortars and guided aerial bombs. Novgorod-Siverskyi community: two explosions, FPV-drones on Krasnyi Khutir village. Three explosions, FPV-drones on Hremiach village. One explosion, dropping from a UAV on Mykhalych-Sloboda village. One explosion, FPV-drone, on Yasna Poliana village. According to Alerts UA, in April 2025, 82 air alarm signals were recorded in Chernihiv obladt — this is 7% fewer alarms than in March.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the military of the East Operational Command destroyed 3 enemy UAVs. An agricultural enterprise was damaged as a result of an enemy attack in Dniprovskyi district. Also at night, the enemy shelled Nikopol with Grad multiple rocket launchers. They fired 40 shells. Three enterprises, 2 apartment buildings and 2 private houses were damaged in the city. In the morning, the occupiers fired with kamikaze drones and artillery at Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities of Nikopol region. russian troops attacked Novopavlivka community of Sinelnykivka region with a drone. Two police officers were injured.
Today, on 4 two districts of the region. Nikopol and Sinelnykivka are under enemy attack.
A 54-year-old man died in Novopavlivka community of Sinelnykove region as a result of a KAB strike. A private house and an outbuilding caught fire. 2 private houses were destroyed, 3 more were damaged. Occupants carried out almost a dozen attacks in Nikopol region.
In the morning, a drone strike injured three people – men aged 39 and 68, as well as a 75-year-old woman. Six private houses, four outbuildings, an educational institution, a utility company, five cars, a minibus and infrastructure were damaged. According to updated information, 3 more private houses, cars, outbuildings, a garage and a greenhouse were damaged in the morning attacks in Nikopol region.
Vinnytsia oblast
In the week from 28 April to 4 May 2025, 15 defenders from Vinnytsia oblast were killed.
Kirovohrad oblast
In the town of Pomoshna, Novoukrainsk region, an action was held to remind the prisoners of war of the Mariupol garrison, all captives and missing persons.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that several fires broke out in the regional centre due to a drone attack. One of the apartments caught fire. Windows were smashed. Ukrainian defenders also shot down 15 russian UAVs within the region.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
16 victims of russian shelling remain in Zaporizhzhia hospitals. 2 of the victims are in serious condition. These are men who were injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia on the night of 1-2 May. In total, 34 people sought medical attention after the attack. The remaining patients are in moderate condition. They are being provided with all necessary assistance.
As of 8:00am on 4 May, utility workers from Zaporizhzhia Service restored broken windows in 32 apartment buildings and 12 private houses. It is noted that 693 OSB sheets were used. Temporary roofing with film was installed on one house. Slate roofing was installed on three houses. 136 slate sheets were used. 65 slate sheets, 45 OSB sheets, etc. were provided from the city reserve to homeowners for independent work.
The Yellow Ribbon resistance movement reports that in temporarily occupied Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia oblast, russian equipment damaged a water supply system during the construction of a field base, resulting in water supply problems in the city and surrounding villages.
In Zaporizhzhia, almost UAH 600,000 was allocated for branded overalls for rescuers of Zaporizhia Municipal Emergency and Rescue Service for summer and winter periods and support for search and rescue operations on water bodies. The activities are financed from the budget of Zaporizhzhia city territorial community. In 2025, funding is planned for a total of UAH 70.5m.
Mykolaiv oblast
The RMA reported that on 4 May, the russian army shelled Kutsurub community with artillery and attacked it twice with FPV drones. There were no casualties.
For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, 3 official recreation areas in the proximity of water bodies will be opened in Mykolaiv. All beaches in Mykolaiv, where a mass gathering of people is allowed, are subject to detailed inspection. SES divers are involved not only in checking the water condition, but also examining the territory for dangerous objects or pollution.
A weekly rally in support of prisoners of war and missing persons was held in Mykolaiv. About 300 people, holding flags, slogans, and portraits of those waiting for them at home, called on residents to join the fight for the return of Ukrainians from captivity.
Odesa oblast
The Unity Motorcycle Ride passed through Odessa. The Kyiv-Odesa-Kyiv charity motorcycle ride was organized by bikers who participated in the military. The event aims to raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, support each other, and remind society that veterans are an active part of the country.
Kherson oblast
In April 2025, 486 residents of Kherson community received cash assistance within the framework of the Social Protection city program. The total amount of payments amounted to over UAH 10,8m from the city budget.
Khortytsia National Reserve reported on the catastrophic consequences of the russians’ bombing of Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. After the station was blown up, the water level in the lower Dnieper dropped by 5m in 10 days, which caused serious consequences for the southern part of Khortytsia Island. Out of 100 hectares of water surface, only 10 remained.
On 30 April, representatives of the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) delivered humanitarian aid to Komishany. Drinking water was also provided to residents of Zelenivka, Novopavlivka and Zymivnyk. All assistance was provided by GEM in cooperation with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
The Unity CF and the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine have donated stationery sets to Chornobaivka community for the Working Group on Security and Social Cohesion, as well as employees of local government bodies.
In Kherson, a school shelter will be renovated for over UAH 17m to ensure safe offline learning for students. The project involves equipping the basement for children with mental disabilities, but only part of the funding has been confirmed so far.

In Uzhgorod, at the Owl’s Nest, Oleksii Reva, Head of the Bakhmut City Military Administration, met with internally displaced persons from Bakhmut, who currently live in Zakarpattia oblast. According to the Bakhmut CMA, almost 80,000 residents of the community were forced to leave their homes and evacuate to safer oblasts of the country or abroad. About 300 internally displaced persons from Bakhmut live in Uzhhorod.

Ivano-Frankivsk community has increased subventions to the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Mazepa received UAH 1m.
Lviv oblast
A 5-day national-patriotic training Be strong with Azov was held in Lviv oblast. This year, twice as many people applied for the training as there were places. Participants were able to undergo full-fledged basic training in an intensive format. The program was built so that each participant received key skills needed both at the front and for actions in the rear in case of a threat.
Rivne oblast
The reconstruction of the anti-radiation shelter is being completed at the Ostroh Multi-Profile Hospital. The work is nearing completion – the surrounding area remains to be arranged. The shelter, with an area of almost 600 sqm, is designed for 150 people. It has an operating room and a room for providing medical assistance during an air raid.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil community sent 30 Werewolf drones to the Special Operations Forces unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated material assistance for 727 Khmelnytskyi residents for a total amount of over UAH 7.5m. In particular, assistance will be received by family members of fallen Heroes, military personnel for rehabilitation and treatment, and active military personnel.
Chernivtsi oblast
At a parish meeting, 2 religious communities of the village of Banyliv-Pidhirny in Storozhynech region voted to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. These are the communities of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord and the Church of the Holy Spirit. It is indicated that 540 people voted for leaving the moscow patriarchate. After the meeting, a prayer for Ukraine and a memorial service for the soldiers-villagers who gave their lives for Ukraine traditionally took place.

This year, Ukraine may receive about 1.8m rounds of ammunition under the Czech initiative for the supply of shells. Ukraine and the Czech Republic are also discussing the creation of a joint F-16 school.
The New York Times, citing American officials, writes that Ukraine will receive another Patriot air defense system by the summer. Western allies are also discussing the transfer of another such system to Ukraine from Germany or Greece.
