It has been the 1189 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm: 

Since the beginning of the day, the total number of combat engagements along the entire frontline stands at 87.

The invaders are striking areas in Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Artillery shelling was reported in the settlements of Karpovychi, Petrushivka, Baranivka, Bila Bereza, Pokrovka, Bachivsk, Prohres, Arkhypivka, Popivka, Vysoke, Krasnyi Khutir, and Dmytrivka. Airstrikes hit the areas of Petrushivka, Osoivka, and Klymentove.

Ukrainian troops repelled four attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Zapadne, and Dovhenke in the Kharkiv sector, with one more battle currently ongoing.

In the Kupiansk sector, the enemy attempted to advance twice towards Ukrainian positions near Zahryzove.

In the Lyman sector, the aggressor launched 14 attacks today in the areas of Serebriansky Forest, Nadiia, Novomykhailivka, Ridkodub, and in the directions of Hrekivka, Hryhorivka, Karpivka, and Novyi Myr. Currently, seven engagements are ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the Defense Forces are repelling three enemy assaults near Chasiv Yar, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, and toward Bila Hora.

In the Toretsk sector, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions five times in the areas of Druzhba, Dyliivka, and Toretsk, with one engagement still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the enemy launched 28 attacks today on the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Zoria, Myroliubivka, Malynivka, Lysivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Novosergiivka, Novomykolaivka, Muravka, Kotliarivka, Troitske, Bohdanivka, Andriivka, and in the directions of Yablunivka and Oleksiivka. Seven battles are still ongoing. The village of Stepanivka was hit by a Russian guided aerial bomb (KAB).

In the Novopavlivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Kostiantynopil, Burlatske, Novopil, and Zelene Pole. Eight out of nine enemy offensives were successfully repelled, with one engagement still underway.

In the Huliaipole sector, the enemy struck Huliaipole with unguided missiles.

In the Orikhiv sector, the Defense Forces successfully stopped seven enemy attacks. The enemy tried to advance near Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, and towards Novodanylivka.

In the Siversk, Huliaipole, and Dnipro River sectors, the enemy has not conducted active offensive operations as of now.

In the Kursk sector, 14 combat clashes took place today, two of which are still ongoing. In addition, the enemy launched four airstrikes, dropping seven guided bombs (KABs), and carried out 156 artillery attacks (including 11 with MLRS) on Ukrainian positions and populated areas.

Zelenskyi has signed a decree establishing the Day of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Day of the SOF of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is established to honor the bravery and heroism of SOF warriors shown in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom, independence, and territorial integrity, and to foster new military traditions. It commemorates May 27, 2014, when special operations troops, along with their comrades from other defense units, conducted an operation to liberate the new terminal of Donetsk Airport from enemy forces and raised the Ukrainian flag there. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the General Staff, has developed a special guidebook for soldiers released from Russian captivity.

The guidebook contains essential information to help them return to normal life. The information is divided into four sections:

  • Psychological support

  • Document restoration

  • Compensation and financial assistance

  • Medical treatment

Printed copies of the guide will be provided to soldiers immediately upon release. An electronic version is also available online.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Mobile Rescue Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that the wreckage of a russian missile was found near a railway track in Kyiv oblast. The sappers found the remains of an X-101 cruise missile.

 Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko reported that a 26-storey residential building in the Solomianskyi district on Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue in Kyiv has been restored after hostile shelling. In the first half of 2024, the building’s roof, technical floor and 1 apartment were damaged by shelling. After the apartment block was restored, its residents installed a solar station and the necessary equipment on the roof to make the building energy efficient and independent of power outages.

Kyiv has allocated over UAH 900 million from the budget to restore the 36 most damaged buildings. Twenty-four residential buildings have already been overhauled. The restoration of 12 more is underway.

The KCMA reported that a pilot project to train high school students in first aid has recently been launched in the capital. The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the Solomianski Kotyky charity foundation as part of a broader effort to prepare Kyiv residents for national resistance. The first practical classes took place at the Klovsky Lyceum, where high school students learnt how to apply tourniquets, tamponade wounds and provide assistance in emergency situations.

The Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre raised money for a MAGURA V7 maritime drone, which was named The Witch of Konotop after the theatre’s most popular performance. The drone is equipped with air-to-air missiles and will shoot down the aircraft over the sea. The assembly took over 3 months, including during the theatre’s tour of Ukraine and Europe.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr Regional State Administration announced that after a large-scale war prisoner exchange between Ukraine and russia in the format of 1000 for 1000, 27 defenders from Zhytomyr oblast returned from russian captivity

The Secretary of Andrushivka City Council, Olena Prokopenko, reported that on the night of 25 May, the Andrushivka community suffered as a result of an attack in Zhytomyr oblast. As of 26 May, 50 private houses and 44 apartments in multi-storey buildings were registered as damaged.

Sumy oblast

Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that as of 26 May, russian forces control the settlements of Novenke and Basivka in Yunakivka community, as well as Veselivka and Zhuravka in Hotin community of Sumy Oblast. Residents of these villages were evacuated long ago, and there is no threat to the civilian population. Additionally, fighting continues on the outskirts of Vodolahy and near Volodymyrivka, Bilovody, Kostiantynivka, and Kindrativka in Hotin community, as well as on the outskirts of Loknia in Yunakivka community. Ukraine’s defense forces and all involved units are keeping the situation under control, delivering precise strikes against the enemy.

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office informed that a couple and their daughter were injured in a strike on Okhtyrka community. Around 11:20am on 27 May, russian forces hit civilian infrastructure in Okhtyrka by a guided aerial bomb. As a result, a 44-year-old man, his 41-year-old wife, and their 17-year-old daughter — who were traveling in a car — were wounded.

According to the Regional Military Administration, overnight and into the morning of 27 May, russian forces attacked Sumy. Around 1:30am., a drone strike caused a fire in an industrial facility, also damaging vehicles. Around 4:30am., an airstrike in another part of the city damaged at least seven private homes and a two-story building, along with cars. According to municipal authorities, the city was hit by UAVs and guided aerial bombs. The attacks also damaged the gas network and road surface.

The Regional Military Administration reported that over the past day, a russian missile strike on Mykolaiv community killed a local resident and injured two others. The woman was working in her garden near her home when russian forces fired a cluster munition at her property. The impact caused a fire at the site. Several houses and a gas pipeline were also damaged.

Over the course of a day, from the morning of 26 May to the morning of 27 May, russian forces carried out over 120 attacks on 35 settlements across 14 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes were recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy heavily used guided aerial bombs (nearly 20 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (about 40 strikes), and drone-dropped explosive grenades (over 30 strikes). Additionally, UAVs and FPV-drones were used to attack various areas of Sumy Oblast.

According to the Regional Military Administration, russian strikes have caused the following damage across the oblast:

  • In Velyka Pysarivka community, an administrative building was damaged.
  • In Krasnopillia community, a cultural center was destroyed.
  • In Mykolaiv community, six private homes, four farm buildings, and civilian infrastructure were damaged.
  • In Hotin community, two private properties were hit.
  • In Bilopillia community, a private residence caught fire.
  • In Sumy community, non-residential buildings, an administrative building, seven private homes, an apartment building, cars, and civilian infrastructure were damaged.

 

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units from the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations from border communities, evacuated 225 people.

Chernihiv oblast

Vadym Mysnyk, Spokesperson for “Siversk” Operational-Tactical Group, said that along the border between russia and Chernihiv Oblast, russian military presence has been observed. The occupiers are keeping Ukrainian combat units under pressure and restricting their movement. Meanwhile, he noted that the highest concentration of enemy forces in terms of shelling and manpower is located in russia’s Kursk Oblast, opposite Sumy Oblast.

Chernihiv Border Detachment informed that over the past day on 26 May, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (8 explosions) and artillery strikes (29 explosions), launched guided aerial bomb attacks (3 explosions), used FPV-drones (3 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (8 explosions). In total, nine settlements came under fire. As a result of an incendiary device dropped from a UAV in Lubiane village, Semenivka community, an uninhabited house caught fire.

Vyacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that over the past week, russian forces carried out 255 attacks on Chernihiv oblast, resulting in a total of 549 explosions. In total, 34 settlements across four regions were hit.

As a result of shelling in Novhorod-Siverskyi region, two civilian men: aged 28 and 67 — were killed. One was a farm worker, struck when the enemy dropped an explosive from a drone, while the other died in his own yard due to artillery shelling. Another resident of a border village was injured in a drone attack. The region was targeted by guided aerial bombs, mortars, drones, UAVs, and artillery. The strikes caused a fire in a border forestry garage, damaged a school and a cultural center, as well as people’s homes.

In one of the villages in Chernihiv region, potato storage facilities caught fire following a drone attack.

russian drones also struck Nizhyn region, causing destruction at an agricultural enterprise. Equipment was damaged, along with private homes.

In Koriukivka region, a coal storage hangar was damaged due to a UAV-dropped explosive. Residential buildings, including those near the border, have also been affected.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

During the night, air defence forces were active. Ukrainian defenders shot down 5 enemy UAVs over the oblast.

As a result of an attack in Samar region, 1 man was injured. A private house and an outbuilding were damaged. Also, the enemy struck Synelnykove region. In Mezhova and Malomykhailivka communities, a farm enterprise, a private house and a vehicle were damaged. A 54-year-old man was injured and hospitalised in moderate condition. From the evening through the morning, russian forces continued to attack Nikopol region. Approximately 15 strikes were recorded, involving both UAVs and artillery shelling. Targets included the regional centre, Pokrov and Marhanets communities. In Nikopol, an ambulance and a private car were damaged. There were no casualties reported.

During the day, the occupiers carried out nearly 30 attacks on Nikopol region by UAVs and artillery. Strikes targeted the regional centre,Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove, Pokrov and Marhanets communities. 2 women, aged 64 and 51, were injured and will receive outpatient treatment. A public utility facility, a food industry site, a private house, power lines and other infrastructure were damaged. The russian forces attacked Hrusheva community in Kryvyi Rih region by a drone, damaging a vehicle. Also, Mezhova community in Synelnykove region came under attack, causing a fire that destroyed a private house, 2 outbuildings and a car.

Kirovohrad oblast

During the latest prisoner exchange between Ukraine and russia, known as 1000 for 1000 and conducted from 23-25 May, 32-year-old senior soldier Yevhen Nezhdanov from Sozonivka village, Velyka Severynivka community, Kropyvnytskyi region, was freed from russian captivity after spending 1 year and 9 months in captivity.

Senior sailor Yan Berdar from Znamianka, Kropyvnytskyi region, was returned from captivity and is now undergoing rehabilitation. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he had been stationed in Mariupol, Donetsk oblast, and was captured by russian forces on 12 April 2022.

Also, Oleksii Kysylytsia from Chervonokostiantynivka village, Petrove community, was freed. He served in the 41st Separate Mechanised Brigade and had been in captivity for over a year, having been captured in April 2024 near Chasiv Yar in Donetsk oblast.

At Dalekoskhidne Cemetery in Kropyvnytskyi, a funeral was held for 32-year-old Roman Konohrai and 46-year-old Serhii Hrynko, both of whom died defending Ukraine.

Poltava oblast

In Kremenchuk, a memorial ceremony was held for police sergeant Oleksandr Baturin, who was killed during a combat mission in Donetsk oblast. He was 27 years old and a native of Bakhmut.

In Poltava, a memorial plaque was unveiled in honour of fallen defender Vitalii Pashko on the facade of School No.19, which he had attended. He was killed in action in February 2024.

Serviceman Yurii Shvydkyi from Poltava returned from russian captivity. He had been imprisoned for approximately 6 months and was released during the 2nd stage of the 1000 for 1000 prisoner exchange on 24 May.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, a memorial ceremony was held on Glory Square for 27-year-old military intelligence officer Ivan Nereta, who was killed in action on 13 April during a combat mission.

In Kaniv, 39-year-old soldier Yevhen Zakharchenko was killed in a combat mission on 28 April, 1 month before his 40th birthday.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that a 17-year-old boy was injured as a result of an FPV drone strike on a private house in Verkhna Tersa village.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Defence Forces in Orikhiv region repelled 4 russian assaults near Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove and Novoandriivka. In Huliaipole region, russian forces did not conduct any active offensives.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 26 May, russian forces carried out 306 attacks on 15 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. This included 139 drone strikes – primarily FPV drones – on Malokaterynivka, Lobkove, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Mykolaiv RMA, on 26 May, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community twice by FPV drones. In Solonchaky village, one private house was damaged, while in Dniprovske village, 2 private houses and a car were affected. An 80-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were injured. Also, russian troops launched 3 drone attacks on the waters of Ochakiv community and the coastal zone of Ochakiv.

Utility services continue to eliminate damage caused by a drone attack on Mykolaiv during the night of 25 May. Residential areas sustained significant damage. A total of 776sq m has been boarded up, and 350 sheets of transparent film have been distributed for temporary cover. Cleanup and debris removal are ongoing.

Odesa oblast

According to the Air Force of Ukraine, during the night of 27 May, a group of Shahed drones was spotted heading toward Odesa oblast via the Black Sea.

The Ukrainian Navy reported that as of 6am, no enemy warships were present in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov. In the Mediterranean Sea, 3 russian ships were detected, 1 of which is a Kalibr cruise missile carrier with a total volley capacity of up to 8 missiles.

Kherson oblast

Referring to the State Emergency Service, in Kherson, a russian drone strike ignited a fire in an apartment and on balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a high-rise building. Emergency responders extinguished the fire. There were no casualties reported.

Based on the information provided by Kherson RMA, a 59-year-old man was injured in a drone attack in Kherson in the morning. He sustained blast injuries, including shrapnel wounds to the neck and shoulder and was hospitalised.

A russian drone attack targeted utility workers in Kherson. 2 women and 2 men were injured, suffering blast injuries and concussions. The team had been en route to repair damage from previous shelling and was transporting OSB plates to cover broken windows.

As reported by the Police, they evacuated a wounded resident from Beryslav and a low-mobility woman from Dudchany. Both were transported in an armored vehicle to a stabilisation point and handed over to medical personnel.

The Southern Defence Forces reported that on Prydniprovsk region, russian forces attempted an unsuccessful assault near Antonivskyi Bridge and suffered losses. Also, during the day, Ukrainian troops destroyed 7 artillery systems, 14 vehicles, 3 UAVs, 3 electronic warfare systems and 2 ammunition depots. They demolished 39 shelters, 3 observation posts and eliminated 87 russian personnel.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA  stated that on 26 May, in total, 8 people, including 2 children, were injured in Kherson oblast due to shelling. 2 apartment buildings, 4 private houses, a cell tower and a vehicle were damaged. The russian forces shelled 33 settlements in the oblast.

Volyn oblast

Lutsk community sent an EW Shelter 6A, 10 DJI Mavic 3T, 26 DJI Mavic 3PRO, 10 DJI Mavic 3 Intelligent Flight Battery, 11 EcoFlow, 7 Starlink, 10 FPV drones, and 5 inverter generators to the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

Major Robert Brovdy, Commander of the 414th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems Birds of the Magiar, has been awarded a high award by the Head of State. Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on conferring the legendary Zakarpattia military title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Gold Star.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 50 FPV drones to the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade.

Lviv oblast

In Dubiivka school, a stele was unveiled in memory of graduate Vitalii Shyshaliuk. On 11 October, 2024, Vitalii was killed in Bakhmut region.

Bohdan Lepkyi Scientific Lyceum in Drohobych hosted a charity beauty and talent contest Miss Lyceum 2025” During it, UAH 24,333 was raised to support the 103rd brigade, where lyceum teacher Oleh Pintelei served.

Rivne oblast

22 servicemen have already completed IT courses at the regional veterans’ hospital. 6 of them are employed. The creation of a specialized training class is a joint initiative of Xwarriors Academy and Rivne RMA.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil community sent 15 monitors to the 15th Army Corps. Assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community sent UAVs, FPVs, electronic warfare, etc. worth almost UAH 18m to the Defense Forces.

Chernivtsi oblast

Servicemen of the 107th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces from Chernivtsi oblast were awarded with certificates and valuable gifts for servicemen. Servicemen of the 92nd Separate Battalion of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were also awarded.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Britain will allocate $3bn from the ERA initiative for weapons and equipment repairs for Ukraine.

Sweden allocated €443m for military assistance initiatives to Ukraine.

The Netherlands sent the last batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The aircraft flew from Volkel Air Base to Belgium, where they will be prepared for transfer.

Andris Spruds, Defense Minister of Latvia, announced that the country sent a new batch of 1,500 drones to Ukraine.
