It has been the 1159 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 27 April, there were 69 combat clashes on the frontline.

The invaders stroke at settlements of Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts.

The settlements of Seredyna Buda, Stara Huta, Nova Huta, Bila Bereza, Yasna Poliana, Vidrozhdenivske were subjected to artillery fire; the areas of the settlements of Semenivka, Myropilske, Maryine, Ugroidy, Velykyi Prykil were subjected to enemy air strikes.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders three times in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe and Mala Shapkivka.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy twice tried to advance on the positions of Ukrainian units in the vicinity of Zahryzve and Nova Kruhliakivka.

Towards Lyman, the aggressor attacked 13 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Nadiia, Novye, Ridkodub, Kolodiazi, and Yampolivka.

Towards Kramatorsk, the Defense Forces repelled nine enemy attempts to advance near Chasiv Yar, Andriivka, Kurdiumivka and in the vicinity of Maiske, Stupochky, and Bila Hora, four more attacks are ongoing.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy twice attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Ozarianivka and Toretsk.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 22 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Yelizavetivka, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Novopavlivka, Bohdanivka, Andriivka, Bahatyr and in the vicinity of Oleksiivka, six clashes are still ongoing. Kostiantynivka and Zirka were hit by russian GABs.

Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Kostiantynopol, Pryvilne and towards Odradne, two attacks are still ongoing. Novopil was hit by an airstrike with unguided air missiles.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy struck Huliaipole with unguided missiles.

Towards Orikhiv, Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka and Prymorske were hit by airstrikes with guided air bombs.

Towards Kherson, Ukrainian defenders successfully stopped one enemy attack. The city of Kherson was hit by an air strike.

Towards Kursk, five combat clashes took place today. In addition, the enemy struck one air strike, dropping two GABs, and carried out 140 artillery attacks, including seven from multiple launch rocket systems.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

The day before, there were four attacks by the invaders towards Kupiansk, the RMA reported. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Nova Kruhliakivka and Zahryzove.

Shelling

In Kupiansk, the invaders dropped explosives from a drone on a civilian car. As a result of the enemy strike, a 35-year-old local doctor was injured. He was provided with first aid.

At 01:50, russians attacked Berestyn region, the village of Slobozhanske. According to RMA, a private residential building was damaged as a result of the UAV shelling.

At 00:18, russians attacked Kupiansk. As a result of the GAB shelling, a private residential building was destroyed and 7 houses located nearby were damaged. A 65-year-old and a 60-year-old woman were injured, suffering from acute stress reactions.

As a result of russian airstrikes on Kupiansk and Kupiansk-Vuzlove on the evening of April 26, an 88-year-old man was killed, two people injured, and two more had acute stress reactions, the regional prosecutor’s office reported. According to the investigation, at about 9:30 pm, the russian federation carried out an airstrike on the village of Kupiansk-Vuzlove. A 60-year-old man was injured, a 60-year-old woman suffered burns, both were hospitalized. More than 10 private houses were damaged, and a fire broke out. According to preliminary data, russians used FAB-500. 

The State Emergency Service noted that at about 10:00pm, the russian federation carried out an airstrike on Kupiansk, hitting a residential area. An 88-year-old man died, two women — 60 and 65 years old — suffered an acute stress reaction. The man’s body was only able to be unblocked on the morning of April 27. More than 15 households were damaged.

Frontline
On the Novopavlivka axis, Ukrainian forces destroyed Zala and Orlan-type reconnaissance UAVs, the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Group reported. They were taken down by anti-aircraft drones with a rapid attack from above. A Russian FPV drone on its launch platform, which had not yet taken off, was also hit.

Russian troops have increased the number of attacks on the Pokrovsk and Toretsk axes, according to the General Staff.

On the Toretsk axis, Russian forces carried out 29 attacks near Druzhba, Leonidivka, Krymske, and Toretsk. The previous day, there had been 16 attacks.

On the Pokrovsk axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled 68 assaults over the past day in the areas of Sukha Balka, Yelyzavetivka, Novotoretske, Promin, Lysivka, Dachenske, Udachne, Uspenivka, Preobrazhenka, Kotliarivka, and Andriivka. The previous day, Russian forces had launched 44 attacks.

Russian troops on the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka axes are attempting to advance toward Dnipropetrovsk region, but their efforts have been “not very successful,” said Viktor Trehubov, a spokesman for the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Group.

This week, fighters from the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade destroyed over fifty Russian soldiers, wounded 67, eliminated one ammunition depot, over 130 UAVs, an electronic warfare system, and an artillery system, reported Pavlo Vyshebaba, a mortar operator of the “Minotaur” unit of the 68th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Shelling
At 12:09, Russian forces shelled the city of Kostiantynivka, using a FAB-250 bomb. As a result, the facade of a residential building and an outbuilding were damaged. No casualties or injuries were reported, according to Serhii Horbunov, head of the local military administration.

Three people were killed and four others wounded during the shelling of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region on April 27. At 10:48, Russian forces dropped aerial bombs on the private sector of the city, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Four people were killed and 17 others wounded as a result of Russian shelling in Donetsk region.

Over the past day, police recorded 3,077 enemy strikes on the frontline and residential areas.

Strikes hit 15 settlements. A total of 69 civilian objects were damaged, including 40 residential houses.

In Novoekonomichne, Russian forces killed one person and wounded four others. Two vehicles were damaged.

▪️ In Kostiantynivka, the occupiers carried out 10 strikes, including 9 airstrikes, killing two civilians and wounding seven more. Damage was inflicted on 2 apartment buildings, 20 private houses, an administrative building, 5 vehicles, and 6 non-residential premises.

▪️ In Zoria, the enemy dropped three “KAB-250” aerial bombs — one person was killed, another was injured, and 11 homes were damaged.

▪️ In Nykonorivka, Russian forces wounded four civilians with an FPV drone strike and damaged a vehicle.

▪️ As a result of artillery shelling in Siversk, one person was injured and a private house was destroyed.

Other

Eleven people along with their pets were evacuated from frontline Pokrovsk. In particular, police officers and volunteers managed to evacuate two families with children, said Hennadii Yudin, Head of the Evacuation Measures Department of Donetsk Region Police.

More than two hundred abandoned animals were sterilized free of charge in Sloviansk by workers of the “Hachiko” charitable foundation. They operate in de-occupied and frontline cities of Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, said medical assistant Aliona Smerekanets.

At least seven graves of locals buried in yards rather than cemeteries were documented by police in Pokrovsk. Information about these deaths is being recorded in order to later initiate investigations into the causes of death, Hennadii Yudin added.

Luhansk oblast

The occupiers attempted to advance near three settlements, the Regional Military Administration reported. Fighting took place in the areas of Nadiya and Hrekivka on the Lyman front, and in Bilohorivka on the Siversk front. The enemy was stopped there. The invaders carried out an airstrike on Ukrainian fortifications, used multiple rocket launchers three times, and fired artillery 21 times. They also directed 203 UAVs towards Ukrainian defenders.

Activists of the “ATESH” movement set fire to a transformer cabinet on the railway near Stanytsia Luhanska. According to the partisans, the occupiers used this railway to transport supplies for their troops, including military equipment and personnel.

Another shelter for nearly 500 internally displaced persons from Luhansk region is planned to open in Kyiv. It will be set up at the Mykhailo Drahomanov University, according to Oleksii Kharchenko, Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.

In the universities of the so-called “LNR,” young people are being encouraged to join Cossack communities. Recently, about two dozen students from an institution located in the premises of the V. Dahl East Ukrainian National University in Luhansk took an oath of allegiance. They will receive temporary academic privileges but will also be among the first targeted by the local military recruitment offices after graduation.

At parent meetings in schools in the occupied areas of Luhansk region, propaganda materials containing a distorted Russian version of history are being distributed. Parents are being instructed on what and how to tell their children at home to prevent them from asking “inconvenient” questions during lessons.

Russian occupiers are checking files on smartphones of residents in Luhansk region, particularly at checkpoints near Starobilsk, Svatove, Perevalsk, and Alchevsk, according to the “Yellow Ribbon” movement.

 

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that at night in Kyiv oblast, border guards shot down a Shahed drone. The approach of the russian Shahed barrage munition was detected by a mobile firing group of the 9th Border Guard Detachment.

A neurology and dialysis unit was opened at the Okhmatdyt clinic in Kyiv to treat young patients with kidney failure. The clinic also opened a new operating theatre and installed solar panels. The construction work and installation of modern equipment was carried out in accordance with a memorandum of cooperation between the medical institution, the Ministry of Health and GIZ. Funds for the reconstruction after the russian attack were provided by the German government.

The Tarashchanska community in Kyiv Oblast and the Romenska community in Sumy Oblast signed a memorandum of cooperation within the framework of the National Project ‘Side by Side: Cohesive Communities’. The initiative aims to unite the regions of Ukraine and help strengthen ties between rear and outpost communities.

A modern shelter for schoolchildren of the Knyazhytska branch was arranged in the Boyarska hromada. According to the city council, the shelter is to be equipped with a multimedia complex to allow for full-fledged classes during emergency situations. The project was implemented with the support of the Italian humanitarian organisation Arcs Culture Solidali.

In Bucha, communities in Kyiv Oblast shared their experience in setting up Resilience Centres and practices of supporting the population.

The Cultural Landing reported that Samuel Bayer, the author of music videos for Nirvana, Metallica and Green Day, recently visited Ukraine to make a film about people’s resistance to the war of aggression launched by russia. On 17 April, the famous American filmmaker met with film students from Karpenko Karyi University and travelled to the east, where he and Sean Penn are documenting the consequences of russian aggression and the stories of ordinary people.

Zhytomyr oblast

On the night of April 27, the enemy attacked civilian infrastructure in the Zhytomyr region with kamikaze drones. As a result of the attack, one person was injured and hospitalized with an acute stress reaction. At least 15 residential buildings, industrial facilities, and 4 vehicles were damaged, according to the head of the regional military administration, Vitalii Bunechko.

Due to a repeated Russian strike, two employees of the National Police were injured and received medical assistance.

Some of the Shahed drones attacking Zhytomyr region were shot down by the Defense Forces. Fires broke out at a warehouse building and in an open area due to falling debris but were promptly extinguished by rescuers.

Environmental experts calculated that as a result of a Russian drone strike on an apartment building in Ozerne on April 10, environmental damage due to soil contamination and air pollution amounted to nearly half a billion hryvnias. These figures were published on the website of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Polissia District.

Sumy oblast

Sumy Police reported that during the day on 27 April, the russian army launched an airstrike by air-dropped bombs on the territory of one of the enterprises in Vorozhba community. As a result of the strike, an administrative building and another infrastructure facility were damaged.

The Regional Police informed that during the night, the enemy shelled one of the villages in Krasnopillia community of Sumy region. Five impact sites of strike UAVs were recorded. As a result of the strikes, an 85-year-old woman was injured. A two-storey building, four private households, and one civilian vehicle were also damaged.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administratio, as a result of russian shelling in Sumy oblast during the day on 26 April, two civilians were injured — in Shostka and Krasnopillia communities.

From the morning of 26 April to the morning of 27 April, russian forces carried out nearly 100 shellings across 30 settlements in 15 territorial communities of Sumy oblast. The most shellings were recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided air-dropped bombs and FPV-drones: over 10 launches of air-dropped bombs and nearly 20 strike drone attacks.

As a result of russian strikes in Sumy oblast, civilian infrastructure has been damaged and destroyed: in Seredyna-Buda community, a civilian infrastructure facility was destroyed; in Myropillia community, private households and a preschool institution were damaged; in Shostka community, civilian infrastructure facilities, utility premises, and private households were damaged; in Krasnopillia community, a two-storey residential building, private households, and vehicles were damaged.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Detachment reported on 26 April, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. A total of 69 strikes were recorded. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (34 explosions) and MLRS shelling (8 explosions), launched FPV-drone strikes (12 explosions), conducted a strike by a ‘Molniia’ UAV (1 explosion), launched air-dropped bombs (2 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (12 explosions). Ten villages came under enemy fire.

Operational Command ‘North’ informed that as a result of the enemy attack on Hremiach on 26 April, a transport infrastructure facility and private houses were damaged. Enemy forces attacked the village by MLRS and dropped explosive devices from UAVs.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that at night, the enemy attacked the region with drones. The Air Armed Forces destroyed 13 enemy UAVs. As a result, a man died in Pavlohrad. A 14-year-old girl was injured. Two high-rise buildings were damaged. A building caught fire. An agricultural enterprise was damaged in the Verbkivka community of Pavlohrad region. 500 heads of livestock were killed.  In Dnipro, 4 high-rise buildings and shops were damaged. It was also noisy in the Sinelnykivka region. In Mezhivka and Slavgorodsk communities, two enterprises were damaged. A house and a garage were damaged.  In the morning, the occupants shelled Nikopol with Grad multiple rocket launchers. Eight private houses, four outbuildings and a gas pipeline were damaged.

During the day, the occupiers attacked Nikopol district several times with kamikaze drones and artillery. They targeted the district centre, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities.  A 73-year-old woman was injured in Nikopol. In total, 7 private houses, 5 outbuildings, a greenhouse, infrastructure, power lines, a gas pipeline and 30 solar panels were damaged in the area. Also in the morning, the enemy attacked Novopavlivka community in Sinelnykivka region with a multiple rocket launcher. Eight private houses were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​During the week from 21 to 27 April 2025, it became known about the deaths of 24 defenders from Vinnytsia oblast.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, reported that at night, defenders shot down 15 russian UAVs in Cherkasy oblast. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Defence forces have advanced near Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia oblast, the US Institute for the Study of War has reported. Geolocation footage released on 23 April shows that Ukrainian forces have recently advanced on the southeastern outskirts of Mala Tokmachka.

In the Orikhiv sector, the russian army launched multiple rocket launchers at Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka and Prymorske in Zaporizhzhia region. Russian troops also attacked Gulyaypole with unguided missiles,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that four attacks by the russian military towards Orikhiv were repelled by the  Armed Forces of Ukraine over the course of a day on 26 April. In particular, the russian army stormed in the areas of Stepove, Mala Tokmachka and Mali Shcherbaky.

Ivan Fedorov, head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that the russian army carried out 408 strikes on nine settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast during the day, on 26 April. In particular, 226 drones of various modifications attacked Kamianske, Gulyay Pole, Shcherbaki, Kopani, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that on 26 April, the russian army attacked Kutsurub community and the city of Ochakiv with FPV drones. In both cases, no one was injured.

Odesa oblast

The prosecutor’s office said that as a result of a drone attack on the night of 27 April, a three-storey residential building and cars were damaged in Odesa region. A 35-year-old local resident was injured and hospitalised.

Kherson oblast

Kherson RMA reported that a resident of Bilozerka, who came under shelling by the russian army yesterday, turned to the hospital. The 66-year-old woman sustained a mine-blast injury, contusion and concussion. She was hospitalised.

Kherson RMA reported that the russian military conducted an air strike on Kherson, They also shelled the city with artillery. Houses, educational and medical institutions were damaged. So far, four people are known to be injured. An 82-year-old and an 81-year-old woman are in hospital. Also, men aged 58 and 59 years sought medical assistance.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that over the last day, the russian military shelled 25 settlements in Kherson oblast. One person died and five were wounded. Six private houses, an outbuilding and cars were damaged.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The Military Unit A 4788 received a Contra-drone (Anti FPV 5 Ultra) electronic warfare system, 2 HP laptops, 2 Lenovo tablets and 3 KS 3300i inverter generators from Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

A training course on petanque is being held at one of the rehabilitation centers in Uzhhorod, which will help popularize this sport as an effective means of recovery and social adaptation of defenders. Among its participants are local physiotherapists, medical workers, representatives of public organizations involved in petanque, as well as specialists from Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In the Carpathian region, there is a Lyceum of Security Orientation and National-Patriotic Education of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine – one of five in the country where children of defenders study. Students are provided with full board, and most importantly – young people are raised here with a deep sense of patriotism, civic consciousness and an understanding of their mission in the development of Ukraine.

Lviv oblast

The 27-year-old defender with the call sign Molfar, Paratrooper of the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Halician Brigade, was awarded with the Military Honor award by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Defenders Petro Rudnitskyi, Vitalii Denisiuk, and Valerii Odintsov from Zolochiv region were awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).

Rivne oblast

In communities of Rivne oblast, information about mental health support is being disseminated as part of the How Are You? program. The program is part of a large-scale initiative to develop the mental health system in Ukraine. Its goal is to make psychological support available to everyone who needs it.

Ternopil oblast

The 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Brigadier General Mark Bezruchko received 50 FPV drones, 3 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters and 4 Mavic 3 PRO from Ternopil community.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that 88 servicemen will receive financial assistance for rehabilitation and treatment totaling over UAH 1.3m million.

Chernivtsi oblast

The All-Ukrainian Handball Tournament among girls in memory of Hero of Ukraine Serhii Ofitserova opened in Khotyn. The Hero’s daughter Anastasia Ofitserova participated in the competition.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, met with Donald Trump, US President. They discussed an unconditional ceasefire and ensuring lasting peace.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, met with Emmanuel Macron, French President. They discussed the path to a complete, unconditional ceasefire and the need to put pressure on russia to establish it.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, met with potential successors to Pope Francis. Cardinals Matteo Zuppi and Pietro Parolin are considered among the favorites for the papal throne.

The Vatican broke with protocol by seating Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the front row. World leaders at such events are usually seated according to diplomatic protocol, which requires the alphabetical order of country names in French. According to these rules, the Ukrainian president could count on a seat in the 3rd row or even further.
