Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

As of 4pm, combat continues in the Kharkiv sector, with a total of three firefights near Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, nine enemy attacks were repelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Stepova Novoselivka, Kolisnykivka, Hlushkivka and Zahryzove, two battles are ongoing.

Towards Lyman, russians attacked, in particular, near Zelenyi Hai. Four battles are ongoing, with a total of 11 incidents in the sector.

Yesterday towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried nine times to force our units out of their positions near Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Hlushkivka and Lozova.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions

Attacks

During the day, the occupiers attacked Kupiansk. The enemy used unmanned aerial vehicles, damaging at least four private houses and power lines. Rescuers found an 86-year-old woman after extinguishing the fire. She suffered an explosive injury and a fracture. Doctors took the victim to hospital.

Yesterday the enemy attacked Kharkiv with Molniya and Shahed drones. These are Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi,

Osnovianskyi districts of the city.

Three people were injured and as a result, suffered an acute stress reaction, without being hospitalised.

More than 10 cars, windows of residential buildings, and windows of non-residential buildings were damaged.  

The russians sent a Molniya UAV at Kharkiv. Three civilians were injured. 10 cars, a shop and a multi-storey building were damaged.

At 04:20, Russians used a Shahed UAV. It hit a forest belt. Windows and roofs of 12 private houses were damaged.

As a result of a night strike by a Shahed at about 4:43am in Osnovianskiy district, windows and roofs of 12 private houses were damaged. There were no casualties.

At 6am, russians attacked Iziumske village of Borova community with MLRS, damaging a private household.

Russians attacked Kupiansk at 9:03am. An unexploded barrage munition was found.

At 5:10pm, russians used a Molniya UAV.  Two barrage munitions were found.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian troops, Kharkiv investigators have registered nearly 22,940 crimes related to russia’s armed aggression in Kharkiv oblast.

Other

According to a tender published on the Prozorro portal, the bodies of 225 people buried in trenches at the 18th cemetery since the beginning of the russian invasion will be reburied by 31 December.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Andrii Polukhin, Spokesman of the 24th Brigade named after King Danylo, stated that trained fighters from the 98th Airborne Division are fighting in Chasiv Yar on the russian side. They are also reinforced by other units, including the Akhmat unit, which includes former members of the so-called Wagner group, and the Rusich volunteer formation.

Attacks

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that four people were wounded in Kostyantynivka during the shelling.

Russians killed one person and wounded another in Donetsk oblast yesterday.

Police recorded 3,639 hostile attacks on the frontline and residential areas.

Russian troops shelled 6 settlements: Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Bahatyr, Hryshyne, and Serhiivka.

21 civilian objects were damaged, including 11 residential buildings.

A civilian was killed in Pokrovsk as a result of enemy artillery strikes. Two private and two apartment buildings and an administrative building were destroyed.

Russians dropped an UMPB D-30SN bomb on Bahatyr, injuring a man.

The occupiers shelled Serhiivka with artillery, damaging 5 houses and a car.

In Hryshyne, 2 private houses were damaged by shelling.

The russian army shelled Kostiantynivka with artillery and a drone, damaging an administrative building, cars, and a gas pipeline.

Luhansk oblast

The RMA reported that the daily number of russian drones flying towards our fortifications increased to 256.  In January, the enemy significantly increased the use of this type of weapon on the contact line in Luhansk oblast. Until recently, this figure was about 100 UAVs per day. Since yesterday, it has increased by 2.5 times. Artillery shelling has not stopped either. The enemy attacked near Tverdokhlibove, Hrekivka, Novoliubivka and Makiivka.

In Siverskodonetsk, during demonstration repairs, the occupiers demand that residents free their apartments from furniture. Contractors distribute announcements with this message among residents of new districts of the city. They do not specify where and for how long personal belongings should be stored. They are not responsible for what remains in the house.

There are only four payphones in Rubizhne. For the majority of the population, they are the only source of communication in the city. The mobile network has been switched off by the russians. The possibility of installing wired phones at home is limited. Using payphones, you can call emergency numbers and other city subscribers. And only during the day – before the curfew. Calls outside Rubizhne and to mobile numbers are not available.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

In Kyiv oblast, sappers removed the warhead of russian Geran-2 drone. The State Emergency Service (SES) experts received a report about the discovery of the unmanned aerial vehicle in Vyshhorod region from foresters. According to Mobile Rescue Response Centre of the SES of Ukraine, additionally, the sappers examined the surrounding area for debris and other explosive objects.

The development of project documentation for the restoration of the Okhmadyt children’s hospital after russian missile strike is planned to be completed by 1 July this year. This was reported by the Ministry of Health following a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Care, and Health Insurance.

Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) announced that since the beginning of this heating season, Kyivteploenerho has deployed 12 mobile boiler houses for emergency heating. In 2024, the number of boiler houses was increased to 51 units. They are autonomous, operate on diesel fuel, and can produce heat for the time needed to restore the regular heating system.

In Kyiv, relatives, friends, and close ones of missing and captured soldiers gathered for an awareness rally. This time, the rally “Don’t Be Silent! Captivity Kills” took place near Polytechnic Institute metro station.

Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of the Regional Military Administration, met with representatives of the Council of Churches and religious organizations of Kyiv oblast. They discussed the progress of the region’s recovery, joint work with the youth, and support for civilians and the military. According to the Regional Military Administration, representatives of religious organizations are engaged in charitable and educational activities, are concerned with the social issues of residents of the Kyiv oblast and internally displaced persons, and actively help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

An exclusive premiere of the documentary “Operation Kursk” took place in Kyiv this week with the participation of military attaches and representatives of the diplomatic corps of 19 partner countries of Ukraine. In the film, participants in Kursk operation – from soldiers to generals – share their impressions and emotions experienced during the planning and implementation of this offensive.

Zhytomyr oblast

On 25 January, another action was held in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war and missing persons on the front line in the center of Zhytomyr. People came with posters on which were written words calling not to be indifferent to those who yesterday defended the country, and today became a prisoner of russian captivity or whose fate is still unknown.

Over the past three years, 595 police emergency call buttons have been installed in Zhytomyr oblast, of which 53 are free access. They can be used to call the police in public spaces in case of danger or to report certain threats or extreme situations. Thanks to the functioning of the police emergency call buttons, over 200 offenders have been detained in Zhytomyr oblast over the past year.

Sumy oblast

 On 26 January, russian military forces attacked Sumy by drones. An explosion occurred at the beginning of the third hour of the night – a “Shahed” drone exploded in the city centre. According to the city council, 30 buildings were damaged as a result of the strike, including an educational institution, administrative buildings, 10 multi-apartment residential buildings, and 17 private houses. No people were injured.

The city council informed that as a result of the Shahed strike on Pishchane, 19 houses on two streets were damaged. Some residents were left without water and electricity, which was restored by the evening.

The Regional Military Administration reported that on 26 January, anti-aircraft gunners shot down 7 enemy Shahed drones in the sky over Sumy. Since the beginning of 2025, the region’s air defence units have destroyed 235 russian drones.

During night and morning, russians carried out 9 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 41 explosions: dropping of VOG type ammunition (2 explosions), GAB strikes (1 explosion), mortars (7 explosions) and AGS (29 explosions). Sumy community was attacked by enemy UAVs, and the Sumy, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, and Seredyna-Buda communities were also under fire.

On 25 January, russians carried out 67 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 99 explosions. The attacks targeted 9 border communities. As a result of the attacks, houses and cars were damaged, and one person was reported injured.

The russian military attacked Okhtyrka community using UAVs, which damaged a two-story residential building.

Krasnopillia community was subjected to mortar shelling (7 explosions), artillery shelling (4 explosions), dropping explosive devices from UAVs (7 explosions), and FPV-drone strikes (2 explosions), which damaged a private residential building.

The enemy dropped four mines on Myropillia community. There was also shelling from a multiple rocket launcher system and FPV-drone strikes (3 explosions). Two cars were damaged as a result of the attack.

Four explosives were dropped from a drone on the Seredyna-Buda community, and there were also 12 FPV-drone strikes, which injured one civilian.

The russians dropped two mines on Esman community.

The enemy struck Bilopillia community by mortars (5 explosions), an FPV-drone, and also dropped explosives from a drone.

Two GABs were fired from russian aircraft at Khotin community.

Three GAB strikes and artillery shelling (1 explosion) were recorded in Yunakivka community.

Velyka Pysarivka community was attacked by FPV-drones (8 explosions), there were mortar shelling (17 explosions) and explosive devices were dropped from UAVs (9 explosions).

In the border community of Velyka Pysarivka, law enforcers discovered the bodies of a 62-year-old man and his 86-year-old mother. Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that according to preliminary data, the people died as a result of shelling.

Rescuers have completed emergency recovery work at the site of the russian strike in Okhtyrka region on 25 January. In the damaged multi-apartment residential building, together with representatives of public utilities, they managed to dismantle emergency structures and temporarily restore 36 windows.

In Sumy oblast, border guards of “Steel Border” shot down russian plywood “parody” of the “Shahed” with a Lüneberg lens installed, which deceives radars. A mobile fire team managed to do this with the help of a machine gun. The task of such “drones” is to distract attention, forcing them to spend resources and forces on neutralizing these cheap structures.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the Regional Military Administration, informed that Sumy Regional Military Administration has handed over reconnaissance UAVs and FPV-drones to the Territorial Defence units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Sumy.

According to the Regional Military Administration, Lviv region is helping Sumy oblast solve transport problems. Five buses provided by Lviv City Council will soon start operating on routes.

Chernihiv oblast

According to the State Border Guard Service, throughout 25 January, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast. 

Novhorod-Siverskyi community: Yasna Poliana – 7 mortar strikes, Hremiach – 2 NVP drops from UAV.

Semenivka community: Hremiachka – 2 NVP drops from UAV.

Snovsk community: Yelyne – 3 hits by barrel artillery.

The fighters of the 129th separate brigade of the TRO, who defend the borders of the Sumy oblast, received a car. It was presented by the wife of their deceased comrade Denis Shaikhutdinov, who now lives in the UK. The car was bought and delivered to Sumy by British volunteers. The car will be used to transport, evacuate and provide support to military personnel at forward positions.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that yesterday in the evening and at night, the enemy shelled Nikopol region with artillery.  They targeted the district centre and the Mirove community. During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region more than a dozen times. Mostly they attacked with kamikaze drones, and in the evening they fired from artillery. They targeted the region centre, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. A private house and 2 buses were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​During the week of 20-26 January, 29 defenders from Vinnytsia oblast were reported killed.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, relatives and friends of captured and missing Ukrainian soldiers came out to hold a reminder rally “Don’t be silent! Captivity kills”.

In Cherkasy, more than a hundred relatives of captured and missing defenders gathered on Soborna Square to hold a rally “Don’t be silent — captivity kills!”. People brought flags and posters.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday, the occupiers executed 325 strikes on 13 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched an airstrike on Mala Tokmachka. 184 drones of various modifications targeted Bilenske, Lobkove, Piatykhatky, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Preobrazhenka, Bilohiria, Malynivka, Novodarivka, and Olhivske. Two MLRS attacks struck Shcherbaky and Mala Tokmachka, while 138 artillery strikes hit Lobkove, Piatykhatky, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Malynivka, Olhivske, and Novodarivka. There were 57 reports of damage to apartments, private houses, vehicles, and infrastructure.

On 25 January, a fire broke out in a residential building in one of the villages of Zaporizhzhia region as a result of russian shelling. The fire spread over an area of 60 square meters. Rescuers extinguished the blaze.

According to the South Operational Command, the enemy attempted two assaults near Novodarivka and Novopillia. The occupiers continue rotational actions of personnel and are forming assault groups, likely preparing for potential attacks towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv. Additionally, the enemy continues aerial and engineering reconnaissance in these territories.

Search and rescue operations in Zaporizhzhia following missile strike on 18 January concluded. On 26 January, rescuers recovered the body of a 27-year-old man. The search lasted nine days.

As of 26 January, 15 people remain hospitalized after the russian attack on Zaporizhzhia on 23 January. Their condition is assessed as moderate. In total, 54 people injured during January’s russian shelling are still in hospitals, three of them are in serious condition.

In Zaporizhzhia utility services continue to address the aftermath of the missile strike on 23 January. Workers covered windows with OSB sheets in 36 apartment buildings and patched four roofs with film coverings. In addition, over 530 OSB sheets were distributed to homeowners for repair work.

Activists from the Yellow Ribbon movement report that in schools in Luhansk, Donetsk, and Berdiansk, specialized subjects are taught by individuals without higher education. Due to a staffing shortage, russians are involving almost anyone in the education process at general schools. The only actual requirement is completing a three-month training course (one month for psychology and two months for studying the subject).

Mykolaiv oblast

As reported by Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during the night of 26 January, air defense forces were actively engaged in combat operations over Mykolaiv oblast. Details are expected later. No shelling was reported across the region.

A peaceful rally was held in Mykolaiv to raise awareness about prisoners of war and missing servicemen. With unit flags and Ukrainian banners, relatives, friends, and concerned citizens stood for an hour on the boulevard section of Central Avenue. The event was attended by 280 people.

Odesa oblast

As of 6am on 26 January, two enemy ships were present in the Black Sea, including one carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to four missiles. Six enemy ships stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, including two carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to 22 missiles. Over the past day, three vessels transited through the Kerch Strait in the interests of russia.

Kherson oblast

Today, russian forces used a drone to attack a man in Korabelnyi district of Kherson, leaving the 49-year-old with an explosive injury.

Last night, russian troops launched an airstrike on Beryslav, dropping six guided bombs on a healthcare facility. Fortunately, hospital staff managed to take shelter in time, though several medics reportedly suffered concussions.

Yesterday, russian forces shelled and launched airstrikes on multiple settlements, including Antonivka, Veletenske, Inzhenerne, Prydniprovske, Sadove, Beryslav, Stanislav, Shyroka Balka, Mykilske, Kizomys, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Burhunka, Rozlyv, Poniativka, Kozatske, Monastyrske, Tokarivka, Osokorivka, Mykhailivka, Lvove, Shliakhove, Komyshany, Zolota Balka, Mylove, Vesele, Odradokamianka, Novotiahynka, Novooleksandrivka, Havrylivka, Chornobaivka, Dudchany, Olhivka, Chervonyi Maiak, and Kherson. The attacks damaged two apartment buildings and a private car, leaving four people injured.

Medical assistance was provided to a 79-year-old man injured in a drone attack on Antonivka on 23 January. He sustained an explosive injury and leg wounds.

Yesterday, russian forces attempted two attacks on Zabych and Kozatskyi islands in the Dnipro Delta but were forced to retreat after suffering personnel losses. Ukrainian Defense Forces over the past day eliminated 93 russian troops and destroyed 1 tank? 2 mortars and an artillery system, 18 vehicles, 6 Shahed-136 attack drones, 1 quad bike, 2 boats, 6 Starlink terminals, 6 generators, 4 electronic warfare systems, including the “Landyshe” system, 3 personnel shelters 3 communication antennas and 8 drone control antennas.

Activists from the Yellow Ribbon movement report that russian authorities plan to develop the Arabat Spit into a residential area, allegedly building an entire city. However, local residents will not be allowed to claim housing in the new area, which the occupation administration announced is intended for russian citizens.

Novooleksandrivka, Mylove, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Tiahynka, and Novovorontsovka communities received 18 power generators through the USAID “Strengthening Public Trust (UCBI 4)” project and with the support of the charitable foundation “For Kherson oblast” These generators will ensure the stable operation of critical and social infrastructure facilities.

Volyn oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Ivano-Frankivsk, memorial plaques were opened to fallen defenders Artur Boychuk, Yurii Maksymchuk, Ihor Skubiak and Vadym Baizhanov. Memorial plaques about the Heroes were placed on the facade of Lyceum №19, where defenders once studied.

Lviv oblast

In memory of defenders Ivan Sten, Andrii Sadovyi, Maksym Dranytskyi, Yevhen Makal, Mykola Pavelko, Ihor Kurlyatovych, Petro Shavala, Dmytro Rubashevskyi, Bohdan Sloboda and Marian Korchak, who were killed defending Ukraine, memorial plaques were installed in Lviv oblast. They were unveiled and consecrated in the village of Shklo, Novoiavoriv community.

Captain Oleh Bodnyk, from Drohobych, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order. The soldier serves in the 67th Territorial Defense Battalion of the 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

Varaska community has undertaken to help restore social facilities in Myropilska community. Renovations will be carried out at the lyceum and its branches. The local outpatient clinic will also be supported. In addition, the community is ready to accept people forced to leave their homes due to hostilities.

Ternopil oblast

Andrii Salahornyk (call sign Khrest) became the new advisor to the Head of Ternopil Regional Council on a voluntary basis. The assistance of a combat medic will allow us to better respond to problematic situations in medicine

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council has decided to pay material assistance to 404 community residents in the amount of UAH 3.8m. Among them are families of fallen Heroes; families of prisoners of war or missing persons, servicemen undergoing rehabilitation and active military personnel.

Chernivtsi oblast

Over 4,000 IDPs and local residents have received social, psychological and legal assistance during 2 years of operation of the Center for Assistance to Survivors in Chernivtsi. For the 2nd year in a row, the Center for Assistance to Survivors in Chernivtsi has been operating in Chernivtsi, providing assistance to those affected by the war.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Jordan McLachlan, 26-year-old volunteer from Scotland, served as a medic on the front lines. He joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the start of the full-scale russian invasion in 2022. The Scottish volunteer died on 3 January 2025, in battle with the russian occupiers.

Michel Hazanavicius, Oscar-winning French film director, will publish a book about the war in Ukraine. The director specified that the book about Ukrainian defenders will also be presented in Ukraine, and all proceeds from its sales will be directed to help Ukrainians.
