What happened in Ukraine today:

russian invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

On 25 May, there were a hundred combat clashes on the frontline.

Border settlements are suffering from artillery shelling from the territory of the russian federation, in particular Oleksandrivka, Bila Bereza, Starykove, Slavhorod, Malushyne, Brusky, Nova Huta, Mykolaivka, Porozok and Dmytrivka in Sumy oblast. An airstrike was carried out on Osoyivka in the same region. The enemy also launched rocket attacks on the city of Chernihiv, as well as on Konotop and Krolevets in Sumy oblast.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders three times near Vovchansk, Stroivka and Krasne Pershe. One combat clash is still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops once in the vicinity of ​​Nova Kruhliakivka.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked 12 times in the vicinity of Ridkodub, Zelena Dolyna, Novyi Myr and near Hrekivka, Lypove and Torske. The defense forces successfully stopped all the enemy’s attempts to advance.

Towards Siversk, the enemy tried to advance three times in the vicinity of Hryhorivka and near Bilohorivka. One clash is still ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy attacked the positions of the Defense Forces four times in the vicinity of Predtechyne, Bila Hora and near Chasiv Yar.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked five times in the vicinity of ​​Toretsk and Diliivka, two clashes are currently taking place.

Towards Pokrovsk, the invaders made 30 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Malynivka, Lysivka, Udachne, Zvirove, Troitske, Yelyzavetivka, Andriivka and towards Zori, Muravka, Oleksiivka, Myroliubivka. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and repelling twenty-five attacks; five clashes are still ongoing. The enemy’s losses are being specified. russian terrorists launched air strikes with guided bombs on the settlements of Dovha Balka, Oleksandro-Kalynove, and Stepanivka.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked 16 times near the settlements of Kostiantynopol, Novosilka, Vilne Pole and in thevicinity of Komar, Zelene Pole and Bahatyr. Two clashes are still ongoing. The settlement of Novopol was subjected to airstrikes with unguided missiles.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched airstrikes on Novodarivka and Malynivka.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy tried to advance three times near the settlements of Novoandriivka and Stepove. One clash is still ongoing. Mala Tokmachka and Kamianske were subjected to airstrikes.

Towards Kherson, there were two enemy attempts to advance near the settlement of Kozachi Laheri.

In the operational zone in Kursk oblast of the rf, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 14 attacks by russian invaders. The enemy launched five airstrikes, dropping ten GABs, and carried out 129 attacks, including eight from multiple launch rocket systems.

In other areas of the front, the situation has not changed significantly.


President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that another 303 Ukrainian prisoners of war were released. This is the third exchange within the framework of the 1000 for 1000 agreement.

 Ihor Klymenko, Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports that as a result of a record russian attack on the territory of Ukraine, 12 people were killed and 60 more injured to varying degrees. Among the killed were three children from one family in Zhytomyr oblast.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Towards Kharkiv, there were 204 combat clashes.

The enemy tried five times to break through the defensive lines of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk, Stroivka, Kutkivka and Vovchanski Khutory.

Towards Kupiansk, there were five attacks yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled the enemy’s assault actions towards Petropavlivka, Zahryzove and Nova Kruhliakivka.

Shelling

russian troops struck a house in Kupiansk. Women aged 85 and 56 were killed. A 60-year-old man, a 75-year-old woman and a 68-year-old woman were also injured. Medics are providing them with the necessary assistance. Previously, the invaders used FAB-500.

The city of Kharkiv and 8 settlements of the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes.

As a result of shelling in Kharkiv, a 14-year-old boy and men aged 43 and 34 were injured; a 63-year-old woman was killed in the village of Kozacha Lopan, Derhachi community.

The enemy hit 4 UAVs in the Shevchenkivskyi and Osnovyanskyi districts of Kharkiv.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast:

▪️ 58 unguided aircraft missiles;

▪️ 6 GABs;

▪️ 33 UAVs of the Geran-2 type;

▪️ 1 FPV drone.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️ in Kharkiv region, 2 civilian enterprise buildings, 2 multi-storey buildings, a private house, an agricultural enterprise were damaged, 30 heads of cattle were killed;

▪️ in Chuhuiv region, an educational institution and an administrative building were damaged; and

▪️ in Izium region, 2 agricultural enterprises were damaged.

Other

The third part of the 1000-for-1000 exchange, which was agreed upon in Turkey, has been completed. Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, reported that among the released were 15 residents of Kharkiv oblast: 8 Kharkiv residents, 4 soldiers from the Lozova region, 2 from Kharkiv region, and one from the Kupiansk region.

Donetsk oblast

After midnight, russia struck 6 settlements: Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Lyman, Sloviansk, Dovha Balka and Khrestyshche. Currently, two wounded people are known – in Dobropillia and Lyman.

The police recorded 3,115 enemy strikes on the front line and residential sector. russian troops shelled 20 settlements. 63 civilian objects were destroyed, including 49 residential buildings.

Novoselivka in Lyman community was covered by ussian MLRS Uragan – a civilian was killed, 2 private homes were damaged.

In Berestka, Illinivka community, there is one dead and one wounded, the enemy attacked it with Smerch MLRS, 4 private homes were damaged. In neighboring Zoria, an air bomb hit injured a person and damaged 5 private houses.

Drone attacks injured one person in Rodynske and one in Druzhkivka, and damaged a private house.

Nine strikes were carried out by the occupiers on Kostiantynivka – 2 apartment buildings and 16 private houses were destroyed. In Illinivka, a house, a garage and a civilian car were damaged, in Yablunivka – 4 houses, in Stara Mykolaivka – one. In Sofiivka, Druzhkivka community, 5 private houses and a culture house were destroyed.

In Lyman, 4 private houses and a boiler room were destroyed. In Raihorodek, a civilian car was damaged.

In Myrnograd, an air strike with a GAB-250 bomb damaged an apartment building. In Bilytske, a private house was damaged. In the town of Dobropillia, enemy UAVs damaged a sports complex, in the village of Dobropillia – a private house and non-residential premises, and in Novovodiane – a private house.

Luhansk oblast

On May 24, the occupiers struck Luhansk oblast villages and fortifications of Ukrainian fighters with barrel artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. They used these types of weapons nine times. In addition, they directed 67 drones in our direction. 26 russian assaults were repelled by the Defense Forces towards Lyman and Siversk. Thus, in Luhansk oblast, the occupiers intended to advance near Hrekivka and Bilohorivka.

The parent committees of Starobilsk secondary school No. 1 and Yasenivka gymnasium in Rovenki will each receive a million rubles from the propaganda organization “Knowledge” for the implementation of “patriotic education” projects. One of the conditions for providing funds is that children must become not only participants, but also authors of the projects.

As part of one of them, a mobile exhibition dedicated to the russian military who came to Ukraine with the war will be created. It will also be demonstrated in other schools and settlements of the occupied Luhansk region.

Not all high-rise buildings in Siverskodonets have centralized water supply. In some places, weak pressure does not allow water to be supplied to the upper floors. Unscheduled outages have also become more frequent. Some of them last for 24 hours. The remaining locals have already gotten used to the living conditions offered by russians.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The RMA reported that four people were killed and 29 injured in a nighttime russian attack on Kyiv oblast, including 6 children. The enemy attacked oblast with attack drones, ballistic and cruise missiles. The alert lasted for almost 9 hours.

A hangar and a building caught fire in Obukhiv district. While extinguishing the fire, the State Emergency Service found the bodies of two people: a woman and a man. Two cars and an educational institution were also damaged in the district. Windows were smashed in the gymnasium, the wall of the gym damaged.

In Bila Tserkva, a fire broke out in a private house as a result of the debris from an enemy drone. Five people were injured: two men, a woman and two girls aged 10 and 13 were hospitalised with various injuries in a local hospital. Also in Bila Tserkva district, hangars of a company, three private houses, outbuildings and a car were damaged.

A house was damaged in the Bucha district, and the 49-year-old owner died on the spot from his injuries. A total of 12 people were injured in the Bucha district, including one child. 39 private houses and warehouses were damaged.

In Fastiv district, while extinguishing a fire in a house, rescuers found the body of a man. In addition, 11 people were injured, including one child and two minors. Private houses and cars were damaged.

A garage and a car were damaged in Vyshgorod district.

Mykola Kalashnik, head of the RMA, informed that efforts to eliminate the consequences of hostile shelling are underway in Kyiv oblast. Makariv is one of the most affected oblast settlements. Thirty-nine private houses were damaged or destroyed there.

The KCMA reported that 11 people were injured in a combined attack in Kyiv, three of them hospitalised.

In Holosiivskyi district, the debris of a downed UAV damaged two residential buildings, one of which was partially destroyed. Four people suffered light injuries.

In Dniprovskyi district, the fragments of a downed drone damaged a residential building and injured a civilian.

In Shevchenkivskyi district, damage was recorded in two locations as a result of the russian attack. In particular, the building of a business centre was damaged.

Volodymyr Buhrov, Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, reported that the wreckage of the downed russian drones fell on one of the dormitories. An explosion occurred there due to damage to a gas pipe, smashing windows and doors. The blast wave also damaged two neighbouring dormitories. The SES crews extinguished the fire, and Kyivgaz cut off the gas supply. Several people were slightly injured.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that three children (8, 12 and 17 years old) were killed in a massive air attack in Zhytomyr oblast at night. According to preliminary information, 12 people were injured, including one child. Eight people were rescued from the rubble by the State Emergency Service. The russian strikes damaged and destroyed more than 30 residential buildings, both private and multi-storey, as well as about 40 outbuildings. A total of 45 rescuers and 10 pieces of equipment were engaged in the aftermath of the shelling.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that three children from the same family (8-year-old Tamara, 12-year-old Stanislav, and 17-year-old Roman) were among the dead in Zhytomyr oblast. Their parents are hospitalised. The mother is in critical condition.

The RMA reported that two people were injured in a settlement of Berdychiv district on 25 May as a result of hostile shelling. The explosion and the scattering of debris damaged 30 residential buildings, destroying one. Outbuildings, a shop, utility company buildings, apartments in apartment buildings, cars, power lines and a water supply system were also affected.

According to Zhytomyr RMA, the liquidation of the consequences of the russian shelling of Zhytomyr and Berdychiv districts of oblast continues. Utilities, power engineers, gas workers and rescuers are working at the sites of the explosions. Roads have been cleared, fallen trees removed, and part of the debris removed. The owners of the damaged premises are being provided with construction and specialised equipment and materials.

Sumy oblast

The Office of Prosecutor General reported that as a result of an enemy attack on 25 May at around 5am, a 60-year-old entrepreneur was killed in Buryn community. russian forces struck an agricultural enterprise in Konotop region using a drone.

The Regional Military Administration informed that overnight, the enemy twice attacked an industrial enterprise in Sumy by strike UAVs. This marks the second attack on this food industry facility, with the previous strike occurring in April.

Overnight, Konotop was under attack by russian forces, who launched a massive strike using missiles and combat drones.

Around 4pm on 24 May, the enemy carried out an airstrike on Velyka Pysarivka in Okhtyrka region. As a result of the attack, a 51-year-old woman was killed. A 43-year-old local resident was also injured and received medical assistance. The strike caused damage to residential buildings.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, between the morning of 24 May and the morning of 25 May, russian forces carried out nearly 170 attacks on 50 settlements across 17 territorial communities in Sumy Oblast. The most intense shelling was recorded in Sumy, Konotop, and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) (30 strikes), and UAV-dropped explosive ordnance (over 20 strikes). Additionally, the region was targeted with missile strikes, UAV attacks, and FPV-drone strikes.

As a result of russian shelling over the past day in Sumy Oblast, the following damages were recorded:

  • In Yunakivka community – a private residential building
  • In Seredyna-Buda community – a private residential building
  • In Velyka Pysarivka community – two residential buildings
  • In Konotop community – non-residential premises
  • In Sumy community – non-residential premises

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service (SES), the National Police, and civil organizations from border communities, have evacuated 133 people.

On 24 May, more than 130 people evacuated from Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities. Additionally, officers from “White Angels” unit rescued 20 animals from areas under fire.

The State Border Guard Service announced that among those released from captivity on 25 May were 36 border guards, including 12 servicemen from Sumy detachment.

Sumy City Council reported that in Sumy, the third entrance of the building at 68A Heroiv Krut Street is set for demolition after being struck by a russian drone on 30 January 2025. Residents were informed of these findings afterward. Meanwhile, the second entrance of the building is deemed suitable for restoration.

Chernihiv oblast

Overnight on 25 May, Chernihiv oblast was under russian shelling. The enemy attacked the area using drones and missile weaponry. Fourteen settlements across eight communities suffered strikes over the past day. In total, russian forces carried out 21 attacks, resulting in 47 explosions. Damage has been recorded on the outskirts of Chernihiv as well as in Chernihiv, Nizhyn, and Koriukivka regions. As a result of the strikes, warehouse facilities and non-residential buildings caught fire, including a coal storage hangar.

According to Chernihiv City Council, as a result of a combined russian attack overnight on 25 May, one of the city’s enterprises in Chernihiv was struck.

As of 12:30pm on 25 May, the city contact center received reports from residents of 37 apartment buildings in Chernihiv regarding damage caused by the overnight combined russian attack on the city. The damage primarily consists of shattered windows in stairwells, as well as broken windows and balcony frames in apartments.

Viacheslav Chaus, head of the Regional Military Administration, said that on 24 May, a 67-year-old resident of a village in Novhorod-Siverskyi community was killed as a result of russian artillery shelling. He died on the spot in his own yard due to the injuries sustained. The site of the tragedy is less than 10 kilometers from the border with russia.

The North Operational Command reported that in Chernihiv region, a farm building in Veresoch village, part of Kulykivka community, was damaged following a russian attack on 24 May. One UAV explosion was recorded there. Additionally, in Kamianska  Sloboda village, within Novhorod-Siverskyi community, a critical infrastructure facility was damaged. In Mykolaivka, located in Semenivka community, a private home was also affected.

Chernihiv Border Detachment. informed that over the past day on 24 May, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy conducted mortar shelling (9 explosions) and artillery strikes (10 explosions), carried out FPV-drone attacks (2 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (5 explosions). In total, eight settlements came under enemy fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the attack caused a fire in a three-storey building in Dnipro. In Pavlohrad, an enterprise was damaged and a fire broke out. An agricultural enterprise was damaged in Vasylkivka community of Synelnykove region as a result of a UAV hit. The occupiers also attacked Mezhove community with drones, damaging a petrol station and a private house. In the evening, Novopavlivka community was also attacked with a UAV. From evening to night, the russian army continued to attack Nikopol region with drones and artillery. They targeted the region centre, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. A multi-storey building and 4 private houses were damaged.

The occupiers attacked Nikopol region about a dozen times. They launched drones and fired from artillery. 

They targeted the district centre and Marhanets community. 

In the morning, a fire broke out in Nikopol as a result of a drone strike. Cars, equipment and building materials were destroyed. The infrastructure was also affected. The enemy also attacked Mezhove community in Synelnykove region with drones. A petrol station, an outbuilding and a car were damaged. The occupants attacked Novopavlivka community with anti-aircraft guns.

Vinnytsia oblast

​Among the residents of Vinnytsia oblast who were released from russian captivity as part of the 1000-for-1000 exchange are Mykola Shutkevych, Hennadii Lutskyi, Anatolii Horobets, Mykhailo Zolin and Serhii Kashchuk.

Poltava oblast

Soldier Dmytro Oliinyk was killed in the war with russia. The soldier died as a result of a russian assault on Ukrainian positions in Kharkiv oblast. The man was a resident of Kremenchuk. He was 31 years old.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night, 3 russian UAVs were spotted in Cherkasy oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, stated that today, 25 defenders from Zaporizhzhia oblast returned home from russian captivity. In total, as part of the 1000 for 1000 exchange, 51 defenders from the oblast have been released.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 24 May, Ukrainian Defence Forces in Orikhiv region repelled 4 russian attacks. Specifically, russian troops launched 4 assaults on Ukrainian positions near Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky and toward Novoandriivka.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that on 24 May, russian forces carried out 467 attacks on 12 settlements across Zaporizhzhia oblast. Among them, 265 were drone strikes of various types (mostly FPV drones), targeting Bilenke, Huliaipole, Kamianske, Shcherbaky, Lukianivske, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, said that a 77-year-old man was killed in an overnight attack on Mykolaiv. Also, rescuers recovered the body of a deceased woman from the rubble of a high-rise building. 5 people were injured. Due to the strikes, apartments on 2 floors were destroyed and other apartments suffered significant damage.

According to the RMA, on 24 May and the night of 25 May, russian forces attacked Mykolaiv oblast by strike drones. The attacks damaged 12 high-rise buildings, vehicles and other structures. Investigators, bomb disposal experts, crime scene investigators and emergency services are working at the impact sites.

Odesa oblast

Based on the information provided by the State Emergency Service, a fire destroyed 20 vehicles at a parking lot situated among residential buildings in Odesa oblast as a result of a russian drone attack. Civilian infrastructure suffered damage and destruction in Odesa due to the attack. An investigation into the war crimes has been launched.

According to the RMA, 3 servicemen from Odesa oblast – Serhii Turytsia, Oleh Rusnak and Yaroslav Kaftan – have returned from russian captivity.

Kherson oblast

Referring to Kherson RMA, a 42-year-old resident of Kherson was injured by a russian drone attack. He was diagnosed with a concussion, blast injury and shrapnel wounds to the chest, shoulder and legs.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, informed that russian forces dropped explosives from a drone in Tomyna Balka. A 26-year-old State Emergency Service employee was injured and hospitalised with blast and traumatic brain injuries, concussion and shrapnel wounds.

The RMA reported that in Bilozirka, russian shelling wounded a 21-year-old woman, who suffered blast and brain injuries, a concussion and shrapnel wounds.

The russian forces shelled Stanislav in Kherson oblast, with at least 6 artillery impacts and 5 drone strikes recorded. 3 houses and a kindergarten were damaged. There were no casualties reported.

The SES reported that on 24 May, 2 fires broke out in Kherson due to russian shelling. An attic of an apartment building caught fire after being hit by ammunition and a separate drone strike caused a fire in an apartment and on a balcony. Firefighters extinguished both fires.

Relying on the information provided by the City Military Administration, on the morning of 25 May, a russian drone attack injured a 64-year-old man in Kherson. He suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wound to his left shoulder.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, confirmed that 14 servicemen and 1 civilian from Kherson oblast were released from russian captivity as part of the 1000 for 1000 exchange.

On 24 May, russian strikes killed a child and injured 9 people, including 2 children, in Kherson oblast. The russian troops shelled 30 settlements. 7 high-rise buildings, 7 private houses and several vehicles were damaged.

It was confirmed that a 73-year-old woman from Kizomys was killed during a russian shelling attack on 23 May.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

An inclusive public space was opened in Lutsk, created within the framework of the project Library for All: Creation and Arrangement of an Inclusive Public Space Based on the Public Library of the Lutsk Urban Territorial Community. The project is being implemented at the initiative of the Volyn Prospects NGO in partnership with Lutsk City Council and the Public Library with the support of UNDP in Ukraine and funding by the Swedish Government through the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development.

Zakarpattia oblast

A grand opening of the Fortress of the Spirit project was held on the territory of the T. Lehotskyi Zakarpattia Regional Museum of Local Lore of Zakarpattia Oblast Council. The goal of the project is to create an inclusive space where defenders can not only practice archery, but also participate in cultural and educational events, communicate with young people, share experience and pass on tireless strength of spirit.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

State funding is planned to equip 35 new shelters in schools throughout Ukraine, including in the Carpathian region. This is Kolomyia Lyceum No. 5 named after Taras Shevchenko, where UAH 2.54 million of state funds will be allocated. The project is being implemented on the basis of co-financing from the local budget.

Lviv oblast

Caritas of the Sambir-Drohobych Diocese has received equipment for the rehabilitation of war veterans. It will be used in the St. John Paul II Hospital, which operates on the basis of the Nazareth Rehabilitation Center. The assistance was handed over by the First Lady of Poland, Agata Kornhauser-Duda. The equipment was personally delivered by Brigadier General of the Polish Army, Miroslav Wilik, Deputy Head of the Polish National Security Bureau.

Rivne oblast

All medical institutions in Rivne oblast received an expert opinion confirming the accessibility of buildings and premises for people with disabilities and other low-mobility groups. To date, 23 medical institutions in the region have signed an agreement with the National Health Service of Ukraine to provide rehabilitation care to adults and children. In the first quarter alone, almost 3.5 thousand patients used this service, and in total last year – almost 14 thousand.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil RMA says that on the night of May 25, at about 02:56, the russian army launched a missile strike on Ternopil. A Caliber cruise missile hit an industrial zone. The building of one of the industrial enterprises was partially damaged. A fire broke out. The area of ​​​​about 1,000 square meters burned. The blast wave blew out windows in nearby buildings. There were no fatalities or injuries.

Ternopil community provided assistance and the military received 10 DJI Mavic 3E quadcopters. 

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The Czech Republic will transfer another 400 thousand shells to Ukraine, allocate 80 million euros for energy, help rebuild hospitals in 6 cities and support the confiscation of Russian assets. There is also an agreement on expanding trade, agricultural partnership and joint defense projects.

Daria Zarivna, Operational Director of Bring Kids Back UA, advisor to the head of the Office of the President, met with Julie Davis, Charge d’affaires of the United States of America in Ukraine. One of the key topics of the meeting is russia’s systemic policy of destroying the identity of Ukrainian children.

In April of this year, more than 90 people were evacuated for treatment to European clinics. Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine, as part of medical evacuations, transported 93 patients (three of them in critical condition) and 32 accompanying persons for treatment abroad. In total, EMD vehicles and special medical buses gathered in evacuation convoys 16 times. It should also be noted that 37 Ukrainians returned home after treatment in a month.
