War in Ukraine today: latest news, 23 November 2025 (photo)

It has been the 1369  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On November 23, there were 117 combat engagements.

The enemy shelled the border settlements of Bila Bereza, Starykove, Kucherivka and Shalyhyne in the Sumy oblast, as well as Mykolaivka and Mykhalchyna Sloboda in the Chernihiv oblast with artillery.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy carried out six attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders; one combat engagement is currently ongoing. In addition, they launched an airstrike using two guided bombs and conducted 60 shelling attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian units.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy conducted three attacks in the areas of Vovchansk and Synelnykove. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, fighting continues in the area of Stepova Novoselivka.

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian soldiers repelled six enemy attacks near Novoiehorivka, Serednie, Zarichne and toward the settlement of Novyi Myr. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Sloviansk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled four enemy attacks, and another clash continues. The occupiers attempted to advance in the areas of Yampil, Serebrianka and Sakko i Vantsetti.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy made one assault in the area of Chasiv Yar.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the occupiers carried out 24 offensive actions near Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, as well as toward Kostiantynivka, Predtechyne and Sofiivka. One attack is still ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy made 42 attempts to advance toward Ukrainian positions near Volodymyrivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Novoekonomichne, Nykanorivka, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne, Filiia and toward Novopavlivka.

Towards Oleksandrivka, the aggressor launched 12 attacks in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Vorone, Oleksiivka, Verbove, Pryvilne and Krasnohirske.

Towards Huliaipole, Ukrainian defenders repelled six enemy attacks near Zelenyi Hai, Zatyshshia, Vysoke and toward the settlement of Pryluky. In addition, enemy aircraft struck the settlements of Vozdvyzhivka and Hulyaipole.

Towards Orikhiv, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks in the areas of Stepove, Stepnohirsk and Prymorske.

Towards Kherson, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks in the direction of the Antonivka Road Bridge.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

There were 162 combat clashes in the oblast.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks near Vovchansk, Lyman, and Synelnykove.

Towards Kupiansk, there were seven attacks. The Defense Forces stopped the enemy’s assault actions in the vicinity of Pishchane, Petropavlivka, and Kupiansk.

Shelling

5 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy strikes. There were no casualties as a result of the shelling.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons:

▪️2 Geran-2 UAVs;

▪️11 FPV drones;

▪️6 UAVs (type to be determined).

Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️In Bohodukhiv region, 3 private houses, 6 outbuildings, a garage, and power lines were damaged (Odnorobivka village);

▪️In Kupyainsk region, a private house, 2 outbuildings, a car (Siryi Yar village), a car (Petrivka village) were damaged;

▪️In Kharkiv region, a private house was damaged (Prudianka village).

Other

The transit evacuation point in Lozova accepted 82 people. 21 people remained. A total of 13,221 people have been registered at the Point since it began operating.

Oleksandr Kulyk, Head of the information department of  Derhachi city military administration, informs that over 20,000 people live in Derhachi community in the north of Kharkiv oblast as of mid-November. The population increased due to internal migration – before the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, the community had 18 thousand residents.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Towards Oleksandrivka, part of which lies in the west of Donetsk oblast, russian troops carried out 16 assaults on Defense Forces positions. Sosnivka, Verbove, Privolne, Berezove, Stepove, Krasnohirske, Aleksiivka, Yehorivka and Zlahoda were under fire. There were 40 attacks by the russian army near Pokrovsk, another 17 battles – near Kostiantynivka.

Roman Pysarenko, Head of the communications department of the 79th brigade, says that in Myrnohrad, it is difficult to provide Ukrainian units on the front line, due to the large kill zone and constant battles that last every day from morning to evening. The situation remains “stable and difficult”.

SSO fighters hit five locations of the russian army in the oblast with FP-2 drones. A series of strikes were carried out on units of the occupation army participating in the assaults on the Pokrovsk direction of the front. The defense forces hit:

🔸russian sniper positions in Pokrovsk;

🔸buildings in Shakhove, where russian attack aircraft were accumulating;

🔸deployment point and ammunition depot in Sontsivka;

🔸military facility in Rybinske;

🔸ammunition depot in Dokuchaievsk.

The defense forces are holding positions in the center of Pokrovsk and have conducted a sweep in the vicinity of the railway station, Sobornyi Square and the pedagogical college, the 7th corps of the DSHV reported. The occupiers are unable to gain a foothold, they are trying to cross the railway into the northern part of the city. Since the beginning of November, 388 russian army soldiers have been destroyed in Pokrovsk.

The Vostok group of forces reported that for several days, russian troops, using thick fog, have tried to advance into the central part of Pokrovsk. However, these actions were unsuccessful, and Ukrainian forces are eliminating russian soldiers in urban areas. The defense of Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration continues, where the russian army has concentrated the largest number of its troops.

Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office reports that the russian military probably shot five captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Pokrovsk region.

Shelling

At 15:53, russian troops dropped three FAB-250 air bombs on the city. Among the injured were two children, girls aged 13 and 15. An 81-year-old woman and two men aged 57 and 75 were also injured. The people were diagnosed with explosive injuries, shrapnel wounds, fractures, bruises, and acute stress reactions. Police officers helped rescue and transport the wounded to the hospital. 2 apartment buildings and a private house, a boiler room, railway infrastructure, 6 civilian cars were damaged.

In Kramatorsk, russian troops used a drone to strike the territory of a hospital town. Also in the morning, a drone struck a private sector. Both attacks resulted in no casualties.

DTEK Donetsk Electric Networks reports that the russian army attacked a brigade of power engineers in Donetsk oblast. The occupiers’ drone hit a car while it was leaving for the facility.

On November 22, there were 2,130 enemy strikes on the front line and residential areas

9 settlements were under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, the villages of Komyshuvakha, Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka, the villages of Dmytro-Darivka, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, Matiasheve.

8 civilian objects were destroyed, including 2 residential buildings.

In Kramatorsk, russians launched 6 strikes, killing three civilians, injuring two more people. An apartment building was damaged.

A woman was killed in Lyman as a result of shelling.

In Kostiantynivka, two civilians were injured by FPV drone and artillery strikes. A church and a civilian car were damaged.

In Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka and Zolotyi Kolodiaz, FPV drones destroyed one civilian car each.

Dmytro-Daryivka was attacked by four enemy Geran-2 UAVs, a private house was damaged.

Other

Eduard Skoryk, an evacuation worker at the Vostok SOS charity fund, says that civilians, in particular, people with limited mobility who cannot move independently, continue to be evacuated from frontline cities and villages of Donetsk oblast. First, residents are taken to transit centers in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, where they are consulted and assisted with resettlement.

Luhansk oblast

Towards Slaviansk and Lyman, russian troops carried out 12 assaults, 10 of them towards Slaviansk. The fighting took place near six settlements. The enemy actively used FPV drones to intensify attacks, but the search for weak spots in the defense of Ukrainian units was unsuccessful.

In Siverskodonetsk, the occupation authorities are conducting a demonstration restoration of only a multi-storey building. There are no repairs in the private sector: residents are restoring their homes on their own if they have the resources.

In Starobilsk, schools have introduced mandatory checks of students’ smartphones. Teachers review browser history and the content of messengers, find out who children communicate with and what resources they visit. Such checks are not announced in advance.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that nine air raid raid alerts took place in the capital this week. Together, they lasted more than eight hours.

A distributed cogeneration model is being implemented in the capital. This is a manoeuvrable and flexible system of thermal power plants or mini-thermal power plants that simultaneously produce electrical and thermal energy. Six such mini-thermal power plants will begin operating in the capital by the end of this year. Another one will be launched at the beginning of next year. In addition, during the construction of new thermal power plants, level 2 protective structures are being built. And a hybrid backup power supply system is being introduced in educational institutions in Kyiv.

By the end of 2025, KPI plans to repair the sports building located in educational building No. 24 previously damaged by the russians during the russian Federation’s attack on Kyiv on the night of 23 June. At that time, the windows in the building were broken, and communications and other equipment were also damaged.

The head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Vadym Filashkin, reported that the Toretsk Central City Hospital, relocated from Donetsk Oblast, has begun operating in Sofiyska Borshchahivka in Kyiv oblast. The hospital has been equipped with modern equipment and employs family doctors and specialists in narrow fields. Ultrasound, cardiography, Holter monitoring and other examination methods are available. The project was implemented together with the Toretsk MBA and partners for all residents of the Toretsk community and displaced persons from Donetsk Oblast.

Relatives of captured and missing servicemen in Kyiv took part in a weekly support rally called ‘Don’t be silent, captivity kills’ held near the Livoberezhna metro station.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Regional State Administration reported that a kick-off meeting for the project ‘Comprehensive Support for Children, Families and Communities Affected by War’ took place in Zhytomyr oblast. The initiative is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Solidarity Fund in Ukraine as part of the PRO_MentalHealth Psychosocial Programme.

The Animal Protection Centre reported that volunteers brought ten kittens and two puppies, rescued from shelling by the military, to the Zhytomyr Animal Protection Centre from the Pokrovsky district of Donetsk oblast. The animals have been examined, vaccinated and are now looking for new homes.

Sumy oblast

The General Staff reported that towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were 19 combat engagements. One airstrike, three guided aerial bombs, and 148 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements were recorded, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.

On 23 November, a civilian was injured in an enemy strike on Khotin community. A 57-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he is receiving medical care. A residential house was destroyed, and two more people may be trapped under the rubble.

The State Emergency Service informed that in Shostka region, a russian attack damaged a fire and rescue unit building and equipment. A rescuer with blast trauma was hospitalised. According to the Regional Military Administration, the 45-year-old rescuer was injured in Znob-Novhorodske community and is receiving medical assistance.

Shostka Regional Military Administration said that in Znob-Novhorodske community, a civilian infrastructure facility and a multi-storey building were damaged in a russian attack. In Shostka community, a non-residential building was damaged.

Between the morning of 22 November and the morning of 23 November, russian forces carried out 25 attacks on 14 settlements across 10 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used guided aerial bombs, UAVs, FPV drones and multiple launch rocket systems across Sumy oblast. Air raid alerts lasted a total of 10 hours and 36 minutes.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:

  • in Znob-Novhorodske community, non-residential premises and vehicles were damaged;
  • in Sumy community, a non-residential building was damaged;
  • in Shostka community, a non-residential building was damaged.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head  of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that on 23 November, at around 2:30pm, russian forces attacked Kamianska Sloboda village in Novhorod-Siverskyi community by two FPV drones. The strike damaged the starosta’s office building.

In the morning of 23 November, russian troops used an FPV drone to attack civilian infrastructure in Semenivka. A man born in 1993 sustained shrapnel wounds to his hand.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that in Chernihiv, a russian drone struck a dacha area overnight on 23 November, damaging a house.

Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of Koriukivka Regional Military Administration, informed that following a russian UAV attack on Koriukivka during the night of 23 November, the Centre for Children’s and Youth Creativity was damaged. Before the strike, children attended activities there daily. The drones were directed almost at the town centre, surrounded by residential buildings and apartment blocks. Nearby structures were damaged and windows shattered.

According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, throughout 22 November, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar strikes (7 explosions) and FPV drone attacks (11 explosions). Seven settlements came under fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Regional Council, reported that Air Defence Forces operated across the oblast, destroying 15 enemy UAVs.

Dnipro region: russian forces struck Dnipro city with drones. Fourteen people were injured, including an 11-year-old girl. A multi-storey residential building caught fire, with apartments from the first to the sixth floors damaged, along with five cars and a minibus. An annex of a private house also caught fire.

Nikopol region: The enemy continued attacking the regional centre and Pokrovske, Myrove and Marhanets communities. In Nikopol, a 41-year-old woman and two boys aged 14 and 16 were injured; they will receive treatment at home. Two fuel stations and infrastructure were damaged.

Synelnykove region: UAV attacks targeted Vasylkivka and Zaitseve communities, causing fires. Three private houses burned, two people were injured, and a farm was damaged.
Pavlohrad region: Infrastructure and garages were damaged in a UAV strike.

Nikopol region: The enemy continued its intensive assaults on the regional centre and Pokrovske, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities. Two people — a 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman — were killed. Five people were injured: a 69-year-old woman was hospitalised in serious condition, while women aged 48, 21 and 52 and a 59-year-old man were also wounded. Fires broke out, and eight fuel stations, two apartment buildings, private houses, vehicles, a shop, an administrative building, two outbuildings, a garage, a gas pipeline and infrastructure were damaged.

Kryvyi Rih region: A drone attack targeted Hrushivka community. Updated information indicates that 16 people were injured in the overnight attack on Dnipro.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia community paid tribute  to fallen defender Andrii Kovalov. A native of Vinnytsia, he joined the defence of Ukraine on the first day of the full-scale russian invasion. He was killed on 30 May 2024 near Ocheretyne in Pokrovsk region of Donetsk oblast. He was 51.

Cherkasy oblast

Talne paid tribute to 27-year-old serviceman Ruslan Hladchenko, who was killed in combat in Donetsk oblast.

In Cherkasy, an event in support of prisoners of war and missing service members, “Do Not Be Silent — Captivity Kills”, was held on Soborna Square. Around one hundred people — relatives, friends of defenders, volunteers, military personnel and local residents — gathered with flags and posters.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Kolkiv Village Council reported that soldier Pavlo Falchuk was awarded the For Wounding breastplate.

Zakarpattia oblast

Mukachevo community is launching a large-scale project to provide educational institutions with autonomous power sources. They plan to install solar power plants at kindergartens, an after-school education center, and an inclusive resource center. The preliminary cost of the work exceeds UAH 50m.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Free sightseeing tours of the Carpathian region for the relatives of the Heroes are ongoing. As part of the Caring for the Hero’s Family project, families of the Defenders visited Halych and its key historical and cultural sites.

Lviv oblast

In the village of Turia, Buska community opened and consecrated the Alley of Heroes. Here, the names of the Defenders who gave their lives while defending the country were immortalized.

Volodymyr Hryb from Strii region was awarded the For Wounding Order of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. The soldier defended Ukraine in Donetsk and Kherson o.blasts In January 2024, the man was wounded.

Rivne oblast

In October, 4 cars were sent to the Security and Defense Forces from the oblast. These are vehicles confiscated as state revenue from violators of customs legislation and as part of criminal proceedings.

Ternopil oblast

In Ternopil, search and rescue operations were completed at the sites of russian missile strikes on residential buildings on 19 November. 34 people were killed, including 6 children. There are body fragments for which the identification procedure is still underway. 94 were injured, including 18 children. 6 people (including 1 child) are considered missing. 46 people, including 7 children, were rescued.

The work lasted 4 days. Units of the State Emergency Service from 9 oblasts, dog handlers, heavy equipment, medics, police officers, psychologists, utility workers, public organizations, and volunteers worked on the scene. Investigative actions continue.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that 185 active military personnel received financial assistance for their own needs. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 1.9m.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi Regional Council reported that this week, the oblast paid tribute to 7 servicemen who were killed defending Ukraine from the enemy.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Netherlands has sent a new support package for the Ukrainian power system. The aid includes transformers and other equipment. Some of the aid has already left for Ukraine to strengthen the stability of the power system ahead of winter loads.
