In the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out one airstrike, dropping two guided bombs, and conducted 27 shellings of the positions of our troops and populated areas.
In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, five combat engagements took place. The enemy attacked in the areas of Prylipka, Vovchanski Khutory, and toward the settlements of Nesterne and Sonino. Two engagements are ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian occupiers have made 22 attempts to push our soldiers from their positions in the areas of Rodynske, Sukhetske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward Shevchenko and Novopavlivka. In some locations, combat engagements are currently ongoing.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, since the beginning of the day, our defenders stopped three assault actions by enemy forces in the areas of Oleksandrohrad, Zlahoda, and toward Dobropillia.
In the Huliaipole direction, the aggressor attempted 11 times to advance on our positions in the areas of Solodke, Huliaipole, and toward Sviatopetrivka, Zelene, and Varvarivka. Vozdvyzhivka, Dolynka, and Zaliznychne came under enemy airstrikes.
In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders are repelling an enemy attack toward Pavlivka. The enemy carried out an airstrike on Verkhna Tersa.
In the Dnipro (Prydniprovskyi) direction, the occupier did not conduct any offensive actions.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, five combat engagements took place. The occupiers attacked in the areas of Prylipka, Vovchanski Khutory, and toward the settlements of Nesternе and Sonine. Two engagements are ongoing, the General Staff reported in an operational update as of 16:00.
Over the past day, 222 combat engagements were recorded.
In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy launched 12 assaults on the positions of our units in the areas of Prylipka, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Ambarnе, and toward Izbytske.
In the Kupiansk direction, one enemy attack took place over the past day. The Defense Forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near the settlement of Synkivka.
As a result of an enemy UAV strike near the village of Prudianka, a 70-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman were killed. Four women aged 65, 59, 65, and 68 were injured.
At around 13:00, Russians attacked a civilian vehicle at the exit from Prudianka. The 65-year-old driver was killed at the scene. Four female passengers were hospitalized in a Kharkiv hospital with shrapnel wounds, reported Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of the Derhachi Military Administration. According to preliminary information, the driver and passengers were residents of Makarove of the Zolochiv community.
The Lozova community has been under attack by Russia since night. As of 11:00, at least three strikes were recorded, said Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi. According to him, the Russians are attacking the community, preliminarily with drones. Due to the attack, critical infrastructure is operating on generators, and water supply problems are observed in some settlements of the community.
It also became known about two more civilians injured as a result of Russian FPV drone strikes on the Kupiansk district, reported Andrii Kanashevych, Head of the District Military Administration. According to his data:
- In Spodobivka, a 26-year-old man was wounded on the morning of January 23; an infrastructure facility was damaged.
- In Prystin, a woman was injured as a result of a UAV strike on January 7; the circumstances and details are being clarified.
A Russian FPV drone struck a municipal garbage truck in Lozova at around 10:50 on January 23. Municipal workers managed to escape, reported Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of the Military Administration.

Residents of Makarove of the Zolochiv community who came under a Russian FPV drone strike on January 23 in Prudianka of the Derhachi community were traveling to pick up a wood-burning stove and food supplies. They ended up in Prudianka because they chose what they believed to be a safer route, said Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the Zolochiv Settlement Military Administration.
Over the past day, seven settlements in the Kharkiv region were hit by enemy strikes. As a result of shelling, five people were injured.
In the village of Kivsharivka, a 45-year-old man was injured; in Ruska Lozova, a 70-year-old man was injured; in Velykyi Burluk, a 49-year-old man was injured; in Hrushivka, a 40-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were injured.
Two volunteers who were killed in Kozacha Lopan on January 22 became the first victims of the Russian Federation in the Derhachi community since the beginning of 2026. According to Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of the Military Administration, the Russians knew they were striking a civilian vehicle. The victims had been delivering humanitarian aid on a volunteer basis for two years and, at the time of the strike, were transporting bread to residents of the border settlement.

- Izium district: road surface damaged (Buhaivka);
- Kupiansk district: one vehicle damaged (Hrushivka); three private houses damaged (Velykyi Burluk);
- Bohodukhiv district: strike in an open area (Hresi).
More than 12,000 subscribers in Lozova are without electricity due to Russian strikes on critical infrastructure. According to Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi, Russians attacked the community for 18 hours. No injuries were reported as a result of today’s strikes.
In January 2026, Kharkiv city and region are living under conditions of large-scale power outages and heating disruptions due to systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Between January 13 and 23 alone, Russia repeatedly struck critical energy facilities in Kharkiv, the Lozova community, Bohodukhiv, and the city’s outskirts using missiles, MLRS, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity and heat. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after one of the strikes in Kharkiv, about 400,000 people were left without power and heating, and as of January 21, more than half a million subscribers in the region remained without electricity. Due to emergency shutdowns and network damage, residents are forced to adapt to wartime realities—using power banks, rechargeable lamps, gas burners, and additional heating devices—while energy workers continue restoration efforts under the constant threat of renewed attacks.
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 79 people over the past day. Since the start of its operation, 17,077 people have been registered at the center.
Donetsk oblast
russian forces carried out 92 assaults in the Pokrovsk direction over the past day. This is the largest number of attacks in this sector of the front since the beginning of 2026. The last time about a hundred engagements near Pokrovsk were recorded was in November 2025, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
Over the day, the Russian army increased the number of attacks across all defensive directions in Luhansk and Donetsk regions — Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, and Oleksandrivka.
Currently, up to 1,000 Russian occupiers are in Pokrovsk, some of whom are positioned in groves around the city and are actively moving. The Defense Forces continue to hold back the main enemy forces south of the railway line. According to General Yevhen Lasiichuk, commander of the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces, the corps aims to eliminate at least 100 occupiers daily. Average numbers for the month are slightly lower, but Russian troops are suffering significant losses and will eventually be forced to either bring in additional reserves or slow down their offensive.
Fighters of the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, operating near Lyman in Donetsk, struck a Russian upgraded drone “Molniya”, which the occupiers use for reconnaissance and as a mother drone for FPV strike drones. According to the brigade, it is significantly more expensive than previous versions.
During the day, Russian forces struck Sloviansk with FPV drones, damaging vehicles, multi-story buildings, and private houses. No casualties were reported, said Vadym Liakh, head of the Military Administration.
The Russian army carried out two airstrikes on residential areas of Kostiantynivka. A multi-story building and a bank were damaged, according to Serhii Horbunov, head of the Military Administration. No information on casualties has been received.
On January 22, the police recorded 1,458 enemy strikes along the front line and in residential areas of the region.
Six settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Mykolaivka, the town of Cherkaske, and the villages of Mayaky and Shchurove.
Eight civilian facilities were damaged, including three residential houses.
In Cherkaske, Russian forces struck with two Geran-2 UAVs. Four people were killed, including a five-year-old boy. Five civilians were injured, including three girls aged 12, 14, and 16. Two private houses were completely destroyed, and two vehicles were damaged.

Local residents personally began clearing the rubble by hand in an attempt to save neighbors in the settlement of Cherkaske, Donetsk region. The Russian army struck residential buildings with drones on January 22 around 23:00. Four people were killed, including a 5-year-old boy, and five residents were injured, including three teenagers.
Yesterday, around 23:45, the Russian army struck a residential area in Kramatorsk with a Molniya-2 drone. According to the city council, the UAV hit near a multi-story building. No casualties or injuries were reported.
During the night, around 22:50, Russian drones struck Cherkaske near Sloviansk with two Geran-2 UAVs, destroying two private houses. Both homes were inhabited by families with children. The strike killed four people: a 32-year-old man and his 5-year-old son, and a 61-year-old woman and her 35-year-old son. Five people were injured: two women aged 34 and 37, and three girls aged 12, 14, and 16. They sustained blast injuries and burns, with their condition ranging from serious to moderate.
In Druzhkivka, a civilian was injured by an FPV drone strike. The enemy also attacked the city with an Smerch MLRS, damaging a private house.
In Mykolaivka, Russia dropped three KAB-250 bombs, damaging infrastructure. In Mayaky, an administrative building was damaged.
Mortality in Donetsk region in 2025 exceeded birth rates by more than 10 times, according to analytics from Opendatabot, citing Ministry of Justice data. Nationwide, about 168.7 thousand babies were born, while 485.2 thousand deaths were registered.
An inclusive social bus in Kramatorsk, run by the NGO Community Development Fund, carries an average of 7 people per day. Passengers can use it for free, including people with disabilities, those over 60, men and women recovering from injuries, and residents using mobility aids such as canes or walkers. The bus transports people to hospitals, pharmacies, banks, social services, CNAP, or humanitarian hubs and back home. The project operates in Kramatorsk, Bilenke, Yasnohirka, and Krasnotorka.
In Donetsk region, Russian occupiers have halted social payments for children with disabilities under false pretenses. Applications and complaints are refused online, and the “saved” funds are reportedly used to cover budget deficits, according to the Center for National Resistance.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
According to updated information, as a result of an enemy attack on Kyiv region during the day on January 22, a private residential house was damaged in Fastiv district. A fire broke out, and rescue workers were on site. One man, born in 1963, was injured and hospitalized, the Regional Military Administration reported.
As of 18:00 on January 23, 1,200 multi-story buildings in Kyiv remain without heating, which are being reconnected after enemy attacks on January 9 and 20, said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Most of these buildings are on the left bank of the city, in the Pecherskyi district, with some in Holosiivskyi and Solomianskyi districts.
Kyiv has designated heating support points (resilience hubs) in every district of the city, the Kyiv City State Administration reported. These points are equipped with overnight accommodations, mobile boilers, food, and hygiene supplies.
On January 23, Kyiv bid farewell to Oleksii Brekht, a board member and former acting head of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo”. He died on January 21 from electrocution at one of the recently attacked substations, where he had personally coordinated restoration works for two consecutive days. Hundreds of people—colleagues, government officials, family, and friends—gathered at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery to pay their respects.
Residents of the Czech Republic collected €627,000 in one day for generators for Kyiv, according to Martin Ondracek, founder and head of the initiative “Gift for Putin”. He stated that the funds will be transferred daily to the charity fund of Serhii Prytula to quickly procure small portable generators for residential buildings, hospitals, and schools.
In recent days, Ukraine has received over 50 tons of energy equipment from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, and Norway, with additional humanitarian shipments en route from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria. Lithuania will send electric generators worth over €2 million to Ukraine.
Zhytomyr oblast
In Zhytomyr region, as a result of a Russian attack during the night of January 23, one critical infrastructure facility was damaged. A fire broke out on site, which was extinguished, reported Vitalii Bunechko, head of the Regional Military Administration. According to the State Emergency Service of the region, 14 rescuers and 3 units of equipment were involved in the firefighting operation.
In Korostyshiv, a monitoring visit was conducted by representatives of the International Solidarity Fund, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine, and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine to the Korostyshiv community. According to the Regional Military Administration, one of the key activities of the program was an overview of the creation of the psychosocial support center “Place of Strength”, a space currently under development. In the future, it will provide comprehensive assistance to the families of fallen and missing Ukrainian defenders.
Sumy oblast
The City Military Administration reported that in Sumy, a UAV strike was recorded in Kovpakiv District on 23 January. The road surface was damaged. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. According to the City Council, windows in a neighbouring building were damaged as a result of the strike.
Over the past 24 hours, from the morning of 22 January to the morning of 23 January, russian forces carried out nearly 50 attacks on 22 settlements across 16 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy, Shostka, and Konotop regions. The enemy used artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Over the day, air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 15 hours and 48 minutes.
The Regional Military Administration informed that a 61-year-old man sought medical assistance after being injured on 21 January in an FPV drone attack in Seredyna-Buda community.
Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed as follows:
- In Hlukhiv community, a private household, a multi-storey residential building, non-residential premises, and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- In Sumy community, a private passenger vehicle and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house was destroyed;
- In Znob-Novhorodske community, a private residential house was destroyed;
- In Krolevets community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, military counterintelligence and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine have collected evidence against a russian serviceman who shot and killed a captured soldier of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on 18 June 2025 during fighting in Sumy oblast. The russian national has been notified of suspicion of committing a war crime and faces life imprisonment.
On the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine, the President awarded state orders to Sumy residents, railway worker Oleksandr Tarasenko and energy sector worker Vitalii Pryshva. A further eight residents of Sumy oblast received honorary titles.
Chernihiv oblast
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional State Administration, said that on 23 January in Kostobobriv, russian forces dropped an explosive device from a UAV at the feet of a local resident. The 71-year-old woman sustained an injury to her right eye and a second-degree concussion. She was taken to a medical facility.
At around 5pm on 23 January, russian forces attacked the residential sector of Semenivka. According to Oleksandr Seliverstov, A UAV struck the yard of a private household. Earlier in Semenivka, the enemy attacked a snow-clearing vehicle operating in the city centre by a fibre-optic FPV drone.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that during the daytime on 23 January, several UAVs attacked Vertiivka in Nizhyn area. The strikes hit the premises of an agricultural enterprise. As a result of a repeated strike, four civilians were injured — men aged between 35 and 74. They are currently in hospital.
During the daytime on 22 January, russian forces attacked a school in Semenivka town by two Molniya-type attack UAVs. The educational facility was damaged. No casualties were reported. The Regional Military Administration noted that children in the border community are studying remotely, while the building also houses a Point of Invincibility, which residents use to charge their mobile phones.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that over the course of 22 January, russian forces attacked Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities of Chernihiv oblast. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (four explosions) and launched strikes by Molniya-type UAVs (two explosions) and FPV drones (10 explosions). Semenivka town and five villages came under fire.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that as a result of a UAV attack in Vasylkivka community, an 18-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were injured. A private house caught fire and was destroyed, another house was damaged, as well as vehicles, an outbuilding, and a farming enterprise. Occupying forces shelled the regional centre and Myrove community by artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. The russian army also attacked Kryvyi Rih and the surrounding district vt UAVs, damaging infrastructure.
The occupiers shelled the region by artillery and attacked by drones. As a result of artillery shelling in Chervonohryhorivka community, a 72-year-old man was killed. Attacks also targeted the regional centre, Pokrovske, Myrove, and Marhanets communities. A 49-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were injured. A 74-year-old woman was rescued from a blocked house. Seventeen private houses and 13 outbuildings were damaged, one outbuilding was destroyed, while 11 greenhouses, vehicles, a gas pipeline, and power lines were also affected. Occupying forces directed UAVs at Synelnykove, Zaitseve and Rozdory communities, and struck Pokrovske community by a guided aerial bomb. A fire broke out. Infrastructure, a shop, four houses, and a summer house were damaged. As a result of a UAV attack in Mahdalynivska community, a private house and a garage were damaged.
The enemy also directed UAVs at Kryvyi Rih, where a fire broke out. In Zatyshne community, infrastructure was damaged as a result of a UAV attack.
Kirovohrad oblast
Fire brigades from communities of Kirovohrad oblast received sets of protective clothing and emergency response equipment. The equipment, valued at UAH 3.1m., was provided as humanitarian aid by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava, a memorial plaque was unveiled in honour of Hero of Ukraine Semen Kramskyi. The plaque was installed on the façade of Lyceum No. 6 “Lider”, from which he graduated. Semen Kramskyi served as the commander of an airmobile company. He was killed on 22 September 2024 as a result of artillery shelling by the russian army in Donetsk oblast. He was 45 years old.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 22 January, the occupiers carried out 751 strikes on 35 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces launched 23 air strikes on Komyshuvakha, Zaliznychne, Dolynka, Vozdvyzhivka, Huliaipilske, Verkhnia Tersa, Tsvitkove, Sviatopetrivka, Rizdvianka, Shevchenkivske, Nove Pole, Dobropillia, Liubytske, and Kopani. 410 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Novomykolaivka, Komyshuvakha, Mykhailo-Lukasheve, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Zelene, Bilohiria, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, Solodke, Dobropillia, Novopavlivka, and Shyroke. Six MLRS strikes hit Mariivka, Zaliznychne, Solodke, Varvarivka, and Kopani. There were 312 artillery strikes on Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Zelene, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, Solodke, and Dobropillia. Sixty-three reports were received about damage to homes, infrastructure, and vehicles. One person was killed, and ten were wounded as a result of an enemy attack on Komyshuvakha.
According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 23 January, the aggressor made 11 attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Solodke, Huliaipole, Sviatopetrivka, Zelene, and Varvarivka towards Huliaipole. Ukrainian defenders are repelling an enemy attack near Pavlivka towards Orikhiv.
The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that power supply from the 330 kV backup line was restored at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. On Saturday, 17 January, the repair site was cleared of ammunition, after which energy workers began restoring power to the plant under the supervision of a special IAEA team.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 22 January, the enemy carried out 10 FPV drone attacks on Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities. The roof and windows of a non-operating educational facility in the village of Dmytrivka were damaged. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
As a result of russia’s nighttime attack on 13 January, Odesa Vocational Lyceum of Construction and Architecture was damaged. Nearly 200 windows were blown out, the accounting office and archive burned down, and the roof was partially destroyed. Deputy Director for Training and Production Svitlana Kozik said that after the attack, the staff cleaned up the premises and focused on preserving heat. Parents and students are also ready to help with the restoration, but until the expert assessment is completed, children are not being allowed into the building. The administration plans to carry out phased repair works after the building’s condition assessment.
Izmail RMA reported that the family of fallen defender from Odesa oblast Ivan Samokish was presented with the Order “For Courage” (3rd Class). In 2022, the soldier went missing in action, and he was buried only two years later.
Kherson oblast
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, on 23 January at around 8:20 pm, russian forces attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with a drone. A 35-year-old woman was wounded. She was diagnosed with a concussion, blast, and closed craniocerebral injuries, as well as shrapnel wounds to her legs.
Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that today, five residents of Kherson oblast sought medical help after being injured in russian attacks. Two people who were hit yesterday at around 5:00 pm during the shelling of Korabelnyi district of Kherson sustained concussions, brain concussions, blast injuries, and closed head injuries. Two residents of the village of Rozlyv in Bilozerka community, whose house was struck by a russian attack drone the previous afternoon, suffered blast injuries and concussions. A resident of Bilozerka who was injured in a russian attack on 21 January was diagnosed with a blast injury and a concussion.
Police of Kherson oblast reported that yesterday, 22 January, the russian forces attacked Kherson, Kizomys, Sofiivka, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Oleksandrivka, Dniprovske, Molodizhne, Stanislav, Shyroka Balka, Yantarne, Beryslav, Starosillia, Novovorontsovka, Novoraisk, Sukhanove, Novodmytrivka, Borozenske, Ukrainka, Odradokamianka, Burhunka, Lvivske, Olhivka, Kozatske, and Vesele. Police of Kherson oblast also reported that officers evacuated two families with four children from a frontline settlement in the region. Those who agreed to leave were a woman with her 7-year-old daughter and her neighbor, who is raising three children.

Rivne oblast
Rivne Resilience Center has launched group classes aimed at supporting mental health, reducing stress, maintaining activity and social interaction. All activities are adapted to the needs of different age groups and are accessible to everyone: barrier-free and free of charge.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil community sent 3 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters to the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Brigadier General Mark Bezruchko.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi Community Education and Training Center holds weekly classes to prepare the civilian population for national resistance. For over 3 months, community residents have been gaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills to protect the state.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA held a meeting with Brigadier General Volodymyr Shvediuk, Commander of the troops of the Operational Command West. They discussed the provision of the Bukovina 107th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the strengthening of the region’s air defense.

Lithuania will send Ukraine power generators worth over €2m. In total, in recent days, Ukraine has already received over 50 tonnes of power equipment from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, and Norway and humanitarian cargo is still arriving from the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria.
Australia will allocate an additional almost $7m to support the Ukrainian energy sector.
