The enemy does not cease attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, while the Defense Forces hold back the invaders, inflicting significant losses on them. On 22 October, the number of enemy attacks was 73. The enemy continues to be most active towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, where about 60% of all engagements on Ukrainian territory occurred.
Border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts continue to suffer from russian artillery shelling. Villages of Myropillia, Novooleksandrivka, Novenke, Buniakine, Lisne, Velyka Pysarivka, Hirsk, Mykhalchyna Sloboda, and Mkhia were shelled. Additionally, russian terrorists dropped guided aerial bombs on Bilovody, Kindrativka, and Malushyne. russian invaders also launched seven airstrikes on Kursk oblast, using seven KAB bombs.
Towards Kharkiv, the occupiers attempted to storm Ukrainian positions four times in the vicinity of Starytsia and Vovchansk. Three engagements are ongoing. The situation is under control.

Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders were conducting assault actions near Vasiukivka. They launched unguided air missile strikes on Chasiv Yar.
Towards Toretsk, the aggressor’s aviation struck near the village of Druzhba with unguided missiles, and three KAB bombs were dropped near Petrykivka.
The largest number of engagements is occurring towards Pokrovsk. The occupiers made 26 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions near the villages of Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, and Selidove. Almost half of all engagements took place near Selidove. The Defense Forces, holding back the enemy’s pressure, repelled 16 attacks in this direction. The enemy also dropped five guided aerial bombs near Myrnohrad.
Towards Kurakhove, the invaders attacked Ukrainian units 15 times, trying to advance near Hirnyk, Novodmytrivka, Hostre, Katerynivka, and Antonivka. The battles continue.
Towards Vremivka, the invaders are attacking the positions of Ukrainian troops, attempting to advance towards Bohoiavlenka from Vuhledar and Vodiane.
Towards Orikhiv, enemy aviation struck with KAB bombs near Mala Tokmachka.

Ukrposhta handed over a demining machine to the State Emergency Service, which it purchased with funds from the sale of the Patron Dog charity stamp. This machine, created by a Ukrainian manufacturer, is the result of six months of work. In the future, it will be used in Chernihiv oblast in the humanitarian demining unit. The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that near Selidove, russian soldiers shot two captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On October 18, 2024, representatives of of the russian federation captured two Ukrainian servicemen in Pokrovsky region. The occupiers, who stormed the plantation near the town of Selidove, laid the unarmed prisoners of war face down. They kept them in this position, pressing their feet to the ground, and after some time they shot them at close range.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
According to the General Staff, towards Kharkiv, the occupiers stormed the positions of Ukrainian units four times in the vici of Starytsia and Vovchansk. As of 16:00, three engagements were ongoing.
russian forces attacked the Defense Forces’ positions six times towards Kupiansk. Ukrainian defenders repelled assaults near Pishchane, Kolisnykivka, and Lozova, and the battles continue.
Oleksandr Hololobov, community head, says that russian troops shelled one of the settlements in Malodanilivka community. There was property damage, but information about casualties is currently unavailable.
A 54-year-old man, who was wounded by a russian strike in Kucherivka, Petropavlivka community, at 09:30, died in the hospital.
At 02:00, russians attacked Kupiansk region, specifically the village of Senkove. A 31-year-old man was injured during the strike by an enemy UAV.
Earlier, at 08:10, russians attacked Izium region, near the village of Novoplatonivka, damaging windows in a building due to a UAV strike.
Towards Kharkiv direction, the enemy continued assault operations, with three engagements in total. Battles occurred near the villages of Lyptsi and Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk direction, there were five enemy attacks. The Defense Forces repelled enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Zelenyi Hai, Vyshneve, and Lozova.
Due to intensified evacuation measures from Kupiansk and Borova directions, 214 people were evacuated, including 9 children.
According to the Kharkiv Operational and Tactical Group (OTG), towards Kharkiv, russia launched 17 unguided aerial missiles during the day and carried out 399 attacks on positions. russian losses in the northern region amounted to 93 personnel.
In one local kindergarten, the construction of a shelter is underway, and next year, more than 200 preschoolers (in one shift) will be able to study offline in safe conditions.
Shelter construction in Korotych is nearing completion. This facility, essentially an underground school for nearly 600 people, will be operational by the next semester. A new shelter for students of a lyceum in Pisochyn is also being built, which will accommodate over 250 students and educators.
Currently, three gas boiler houses are being constructed, which will provide heating to more than 16,000 residents of apartment buildings. The project is being implemented on a co-financing basis with funds from the state budget, the community, and UNICEF.
In general, local residents continue to return to their homes. We anticipate a further increase in population, as internally displaced persons from frontline areas of Kharkiv oblast are also arriving in the community.
Donetsk oblast
According to Oleksandr Honcharenko, Head of the Kramatorsk city military administration, russian troops struck Kramatorsk in the evening. Industrial facilities were damaged. No one was injured or killed.
According to Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, the russian troops dropped a KAB-250 guided aerial bomb on the city of Myrnohrad and hit a five-storey building. Two men aged 35 and 43 and a 50-year-old woman were taken to a medical facility. They sustained mine-blast injuries, contusion, shrapnel wounds to the head, torso and limbs. A man born in 1963 was killed. A section of the entrance to a five-storey apartment building was destroyed by a guided aerial bomb. Seven buildings were damaged.

At around 1:50 a.m., the enemy dropped two aerial bombs on Pokrovsk, damaging the infrastructure. No information on casualties was received.
On 21 October, russians killed a child in Donetsk oblast, making a total of four civilians killed in the last 24 hours. Five more civilians were injured.
Police recorded 2,697 hostile attacks along the frontline and in the residential sector. The enemy targeted 7 localities: the towns of Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Siversk, and the villages of Mykolaivka, Novoukrainka, and Yantarne. Forty-eight civilian objects were damaged, including 23 residential buildings.
russians attacked Myrnohrad with two UMPB D-30SN bombs and a drone, killing two civilians and injuring two others. Fifteen apartment buildings, 14 outbuildings, two garages, a shop and a trade pavilion were destroyed.
Occupiers dropped two unmanned aerial vehicles on Kurakhove, killing one person and injuring another, damaging two apartment buildings and an educational institution.
Novoukrainka was attacked with two drones, killing a 14-year-old girl and injuring another civilian. An agricultural enterprise and a civilian car were damaged.
According to preliminary information, there is a wounded man in Yantarne as a result of an enemy strike, private houses were damaged. Donetsk Oblast State Emergency Service said that russians hit Yantarne with a bomb last night. Rescuers pulled the dead woman out of the rubble. They could not get to work immediately because of the threat of repeated shelling.

Over the past week, 77 children have been rescued from Kostiantynivka community. Among the evacuees is a mother with a 5-month-old baby and a single father with a little son.
According to Andrii Polukhin, Spokesman for the 24th King Danylo Brigade, an infantry group of russian soldiers crossed the canal in the town of Chasiv Yar a few days ago, and the occupiers are currently blocked. This cannot be called a defensive breach, the occupiers are not able to gain a foothold.
According to Andrii Otchenash, crew commander of the Kara Nebesna (“Heavenly Punishment”) UAV of the 4th Rubizh operational brigade, the russian troops are constantly storming the positions of the Ukrainian army towards Kurakhove sector, using a large number of equipment and personnel. Over the course of a month, the brigade’s fighters destroyed 30 units of various types of equipment used by the russian army.
The State Emergency Service’s pyrotechnics destroyed a grenade launcher and a mortar shell in the Sviati Hory (Holy Mountains) Nature Park.
Luhansk oblast
According to Luhansk RMA, the enemy resumed attacks in the Luhansk region towards Kupiansk sector. They tried to conduct offensive actions near Stelmakhivka. Towards Lyman sector, the invaders are making efforts in the area of Hrekivka and Makiivka. Ukrainian troops are holding the line and inflicting losses on the russians. The occupants are mostly using drones and artillery to fire at the positions of Ukrainian defenders.
In a military unit based in occupied Luhansk, men disappear on a mass scale within a few days of their arrival. We are talking about the 123rd separate guards motorised rifle brigade named after the hero of the soviet union kliment voroshilov, which was previously known as the ‘2nd brigade of the people’s militia of the luhansk people’s republic’. Contact with recruits is lost, on average, in two to three days, i.e. after the first combat mission. Family members are not provided with any information on this matter. Many do not even have a report on the death or disappearance of a russian militant.
Luhansk collaborators continue to accumulate evidence against themselves. The so-called ‘archival service of the luhansk people’s republic’ has intensified its efforts to collect documents about the participants and events of the war against Ukraine. The documents include military cards, letters, other documents, photographs and written references to russian war crimes. So far, more than 300 such documents have been collected. They provide self-incriminating evidence in 28 archives operating within the administrative-territorial units of the ‘lpr’.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Jean-Noël Barrot, French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, visited the regional rehabilitation center of Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1. During the visit, the needs of Kyiv oblast for rehabilitation centres for the population and potential assistance from French partners in this area were discussed, as reported by the Regional Military Administration.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Haoliang Xu visited a multi-story building at 1 Rekunova Street in Hostomel, which was restored through the President’s UNITED24 program. During the russian artillery shelling, a section of one of the entrances was completely destroyed, and nine apartments were rebuilt from scratch. The entire restoration process was supervised by UNDP specialists.
Representatives of the Swedish Parliament’s Committee on Industry and Trade visited Bucha. The foreign guests visited the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle, where they were presented with photo documents testifying to the tragic events of the occupation. Diplomats were also informed about a number of crimes committed by russian military forces in February-March 2022.
The capital’s community has provided the 5th Separate Assault Brigade of Kyiv with an additional 550 drones, announced Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Specifically, 150 Mavic 3T drones and 400 Mavic 3 PRO drones will be sent to Donbas to assist Ukrainian defenders in performing combat missions.
Last week, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard NGO held an art therapy session titled “Women’s Circle” in Kyiv. The event took place in the cozy atmosphere of the Lesya Ukrainka Kyiv Public Library. Discussions focused on the embroidery and handicraft traditions of the Kosach family, with handmade embroidered talismans being recognized as treasures and values across all times.
On October 24, the documentary film “Victories 118” will premiere in Kyiv, presented by the Memorial Memory Platform. The film covers the aftermath of the Russian missile strike on a residential building in Dnipro on January 14, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 46 people, including seven children.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr region is expanding its capacity in alternative energy, according to the Regional Military Administration. The region now hosts 19 powerful solar power plants with a total capacity of 193 megawatts. Residents have installed 1,329 solar power stations with a combined capacity of 35.9 megawatts.
In Zviahel, seven families who were forced to leave their homes due to the war received keys to fully equipped smart apartments. The project was implemented through cooperation between local authorities, German philanthropists, the public organization Modern Format, and the interregional project Humedica. A total of over 5 million UAH from donors and the community budget was allocated for the reconstruction and repair of the apartments in a former medical facility.
At the sports hall of Zhytomyr Professional Lyceum, two regional table tennis championships were held simultaneously. One was a tournament for veteran soldiers, and the other was an open regional cup for athletes using wheelchairs and deaf children. In total, 29 participants from various communities took part in the events.
Sumy oblast
Sumy Regional Military Administration reported than starting at 6:20am on 22 October, a series of explosions were heard in Sumy. The enemy forces struck a residential apartment building and critical infrastructure. In the area of Vasylivska Street, six buildings were damaged, with one completely destroyed. No injuries were reported. In Khimmistechko district, around 15 buildings were damaged as a result of the explosions.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that on the night of 21–22 October, russian forces struck a private residential area in Sumy using drones. As a result of the attack, a 50-year-old man was injured, while his 50-year-old wife, 62-year-old sister, and 14-year-old daughter were killed.

During night and morning, russians carried out 19 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 45 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorod communities.
During the day, on 21 October, russians carried out 63 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 132 explosions. During the day on 21 October, russian forces shelled a village in the Chernihiv region. Viacheslav Chaus, the Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that a local woman born in 1986 was injured by explosions from a multiple rocket launcher system and a drone. A residential house and the building of a rural healthcare centre were also damaged.
The russian forces shelled three border communities in Chernihiv oblast, using drones, FPV-drones, and mortars.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
3 explosions, likely by an FPV-drone, and 6 explosions, likely by a 120mm mortar, near Mykhalchyna Sloboda village.
Semenivka community:
5 explosions, likely by FPV-drones, near Yanzhulivka village;

After one of the air attacks on Chernihiv oblast, a partially destroyed russian missile was found. Its warhead did not detonate. Police reported that the missile, an air-launched cruise missile, was located in agricultural land. Specialists neutralised it on-site using explosives.
In Chernihiv oblast, three russian soldiers were charged for brutal treatment and sexual violence against a local woman in Yahidne. The investigation revealed that the three men, aged 28, 30, and 37, from the Republic of Tuva, illegally detained the civilian woman in early March 2022, suspecting her of collaborating with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They took her to a house, where they beat her, forced her to undress, and sexually assaulted her. The russians face imprisonment for eight to twelve years, and the pre-trial investigation continues.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
From evening until morning, the occupiers continued attacks on Nikopol region. They shelled the regional centre, Pokrov, Myrove and Chervonohryhorivka communities by artillery and kamikaze drones. It was also loud in Dnipro, where 2 private houses were damaged due to enemy attacks.
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, reported that at night, air defence forces in the oblast intercepted enemy drones, shooting down 8 Shaheds.
Another difficult day in Nikopol region saw two and a half attacks. A 74-year-old man was killed in Marhanets and a 76-year-old man in Nikopol was injured and hospitalised in moderate condition. The occupiers struck by artillery and kamikaze drones on the regional centre, Pokrov, Myrove, Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities. A sports facility, 7 private houses, gas stations, infrastructure, vehicles, 2 agricultural buildings, a greenhouse, gas pipelines and power lines were damaged.
During the day, air defence forces shot down an enemy reconnaissance drone over the oblast.
Vinnytsia oblast
Mayor Serhii Morhunov informed that Vinnytsia oblast has provided a vehicle for special tasks, FPV drones, Mavics, SUVs, thermal imaging devices and other equipment. Funds were also sent directly to military units for purchasing the necessary equipment.
As reported by Nataliia Zabolotna, First Deputy Head of Vinnytsia RMA, in Vinnytsia, families of 10 fallen Heroes were presented with posthumous state awards. The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III class (posthumously) was awarded to Captain Yevhen Kravtsov and Leitenant Maksym Prytula. The Order for Courage III class (posthumously) was awarded to soldiers Yaroslav Boiko, Oleksandr Vasylenko, Andrii Holubovskyi, Anton Menshykov, Volodymyr Mykytyshyn, Sergeants Oleksandr Soliar, Viktor Tuz and soldier Serhii Turturian.
Kirovohrad oblast
At Dalekoshidne cemetery in Kropyvnytskyi, a farewell was held for rifleman-medic Ihor Lutsenko, who was killed during a combat mission in Toshkivka village, Luhansk oblast. He had been missing for over 2 years. Also, anti-tank missile operator Vladyslav Halushkin, who was killed on 10 October near Makiivka village in Svatove region of Luhansk oblast at the age of 31, was laid to rest.
Poltava oblast
2 soldiers from Poltava oblast were killed during service. Valerii Kozhemiakin was killed on 13 October, in a firefight with the enemy. Serhii Ivakhnenko was killed on 17 October.
According to unofficial data from the UN, EBRD, World Bank and USAID, nearly a fifth of the population in Poltava community are currently internally displaced persons. More than half of them are under 35 years old.
In Khorol, the parents of fallen tank commander Serhii Kozin were posthumously awarded the For the Defence of Chernihiv medal. He served as the commander of a tank platoon in the Separate Siverska(Honcharivska) tank brigade.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, reported that 3 strike drones were shot down overnight over the oblast. There were no casualties or damage reported.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled one russian attack in Orikhiv axis on 21 October.
In Zaporizhzhia oblast, the Border Guard Service reported that Ukrainian forces destroyed russian positions and eliminated 2 russian soldiers.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, informed that the number of injured from the russian attack on 21 October on Zaporizhzhia has risen to 20.
On 21 October, the russian military carried out 303 strikes on 9 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to the RMA, during the night of 22 October, russian forces attacked Kutsurub and Ochakiv communities in Mykolaiv oblast by artillery and FPV drones. There were no injuries reported.
Odesa oblast
As reported by the Ukrainian Navy, the russian military has reduced its naval group in the Black Sea. As of the morning of 22 October, only one enemy ship remains in the Black Sea and there are no carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles.
Kherson oblast
The RMA reported that at around 2pm, russian forces dropped explosives from a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 70-year-old man was hospitalised with leg injuries and blast trauma.
At around 11am, russian forces shelled Shliakhove village in Kherson oblast, damaging at least 5 houses. Preliminary reports indicate no injuries.
In the morning, russian forces dropped explosives from a drone at a public transport stop in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 54-year-old woman sustained blast injuries.
At around 4am, the russian military attacked Antonivka, near Kherson, by a drone. A 74-year-old woman was hospitalised with blast trauma and shrapnel wounds.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that during the overnight drone attack, air defence units destroyed one russian Shahed-131/136 drone over Kherson oblast.

The 5th Separate Assault Brigade of the Military Unit A4010 received 3 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters, 3 DJI Mavic 3 Thermal quadcopters, 15 thermal imaging FPV drones and 2 diesel generators. The 1st Mechanised Battalion of the Military Unit A0693 received a DJI Mavic 3T quadcopter and 2 DJI Mavic 3 Pro quadcopters. The Military Units A7361, A7273, A3449 and A7014 received 5 DJI Mavic 3 Pro quadcopters and 3 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters. Aid was provided by Lutsk community.

The RMA reported that the Bamberg:ua non-profit organisation, within the framework of the Cultural Convoy project, sent 10 ambulances to the National Guard, border guard and regional hospitals.
From 21 to 27 October, within the framework of the Cyber Security Month of Ukraine, the Cyber Security Week will be held in Lviv RMA. The event will include a number of training, seminars and information sessions aimed at increasing the awareness and professional skills of employees regarding issues of cyber hygiene and cyber security.
A Safety Classroom was opened in Sambir region. The Classroom was divided into several cells: watching films and presentations, fire safety, first aid and life safety, and psychological relief. The Classroom is equipped with all the necessary equipment and manuals from the UNICEF Ukraine Foundation.
Rivne oblast
The RMA held a meeting of the regional leadership with representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). They discussed the prospects of cooperation in the next year.
Rivne received 2 ambulances fully equipped with everything necessary for the needs of military paramedics from America. Soon cars will go to the front.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil City Council allocated funds for equipment for 15 defenders from the city. Each will receive UAH 10,000. This year already 2 914 soldiers of the community received such assistance.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
During the week, representatives of JSC NAEK Energoatom and the State Energy Inspectorate of Ukraine checked compliance with the conditions of readiness in the units of Khao NPP. In accordance with the inspection program, an assessment of the state of objects, structures, equipment, organisation and performance of works, provision of necessary materials and equipment, etc. was carried out. During the final meeting, the members of the commission noted the high quality of the preparatory work carried out at the branch of VP KhaNPS.
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated the payment to 30 families of captives or missing persons in the total amount of over UAH 1,35m.

The RMA held a meeting with Martin Harris, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Ukraine. They discussed supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine, arranging housing for internally displaced persons and helping them integrate into community life, implementing a quality veteran policy, and working on the development of the region’s economy.

The European Parliament approved a €35bn loan to Ukraine. It will be paid with proceeds from frozen russian assets. Funds must be paid by the end of 2025.
The US announced a new package of military aid worth $400m to Ukraine, which included: ammunition for HIMARS; 155 mm and 105 mm calibre artillery shells; mortar shots of 60 mm, 81 mm and 120 mm calibres; PTKR TOW; Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank complexes; APC M113; satellite communication equipment; firearms and ammunition; hand grenades and training equipment; explosive equipment and ammunition; equipment for the protection of critical infrastructure; spare parts, maintenance and support, additional services, logistics and other auxiliary equipment. The funds are allocated under the PDA program – direct supplies from the reserves of the US Army.
France will provide Ukraine with a grant in the amount of €200m. As Yuliia Svyridenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, noted that one of the key sectors that will receive funding under the agreement is health care.
Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, met with Haolian Xu, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Deputy Administrator of the UN Development Program (UNDP). The main topic of the meeting is the involvement of UNDP in the restoration of critical infrastructure objects of Ukraine now and in complex reconstruction in the future.
Florence Bauer, Head of the Eastern European office of the UN Population Fund, stated that after the russian invasion, the population of Ukraine decreased by 10m. The largest share of the decrease in the population of Ukraine was accounted for by 6.7m refugees.
