War in Ukraine today: latest news, 21 October, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 971st day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

Ukraine’s defence forces are holding back the offensive of russian occupiers. Terrorists continue to destroy Ukrainian towns and villages with missile, air and artillery strikes. On 21 October, the number of military clashes was 67. 

Ukrainian defenders are taking the necessary measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukraine’s territory.

Communities of Boiaro-Lezhachi, Krasnopillia, Basivka, Mezenivka, Novenke and Miropillia in Sumy oblast; Mikhalchyna Sloboda and Polissia in Chernihiv oblast were affected by enemy artillery, mortars and multiple rocket launchers. 

russians conducted airstrikes with KABs in the vicinity of Khotini, Basivka, Richok, Bilopillia and Krasnopillia in Sumy oblast. 

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Vovchansk and Lypky.

Towards Kupiansk, russian occupiers attacked the Ukrainian defence forces twice in the vicinity of Lozova and Vyshneve. One firefight is still ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invading army made seven attacks on Ukrainian positions near Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Petropavlivka and Terny. Six of the battles ended and one is still ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line and inflicting losses on the enemy.

Occupiers’ troops continue to look for weaknesses in Ukrainian defences near Verkhnekamianske and Pereizne towards Siversk. There were two futile enemy attacks there.

Towards Kramatorsk, the occupiers’ aviation struck Pazeno, Maiske and Chasiv Yar with KABs and NARs.

Towards Toretsk, the aggressor tried once to penetrate Ukrainian defences in the vicinity of Toretsk. The occupiers struck the same town with multiple rocket launchers.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian invaders made 27 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of Sukha Balka, Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Krutyi Yar, Selidove and Mykhailivka. Defence forces repelled 18 enemy attacks, nine combat engagements are still ongoing.

Towards Kurakhove, the enemy army attacked 15 times in the vicinity of Hirnyk, Novodmitrivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka, Dalne, Katerynivka and Antonivka. Seven enemy attempts to advance were repelled.

Towards Vremivsk, eight enemy attacks took place near Bohoiavlenka, Novoukrainka and Zolote. Three battles are still ongoing.

Towards Orikhiv, the occupation forces stormed the positions of Ukrainian forces once near Mala Tokmachka.

In other areas, there were no major changes.

The operation in Kursk oblast continues. Russian aviation continues to hit russian towns and villages. There were 22 strikes with 32 anti-aircraft missiles on their own territory.

Yevhen Mezhevikin, Deputy Chief of the Main Doctrine and Training Department of the General Staff, informs that the duration of basic military training was increased by 50% in 4 training centres of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now, the Basic General Training will last for 1.5 months instead of 30 days. About 500 military personnel are currently involved in this experiment. The updated programme includes learning the basics of using UAVs and trench electronic warfare and reconnaissance equipment, enhancing tactical fire training, reconnaissance and sabotage activities, and survival skills at the front, especially survival in the cold season. 

For realistic training, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have approved the Kit 2.0 simulation kit for use in the field. It is designed for practical training of soldiers in conditions as close as possible to real combat. The individual kit consists of a laser emitter that is attached to small arms and ammunition that records the damage, and a ‘stress belt’ (bracelet). A mounted emitter on a personal weapon simulates firing. It sends out laser pulses that are detected by sensors on the helmet or vest of a simulated enemy. The bracelet is worn on the arm for tactile sensing of hits.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian troops repelled more than 100 attacks towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.

Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian troops repelled 46 attacks in the vicinity of Mykhailivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Novotroitske, and Sukhyi Yar. The main efforts of the russian army were directed at Selydove and Promin, where 22 and 9 battles occurred respectively.

Towards Kurakhove, Ukrainian defence forces repelled 59 attacks in the vicinity of Hirnyk, Novodmytrivka, Kurakhivka, Kostiantynivka, Maksymilianivka, Antonivka, Kurakhove and Vodiane.

According to Anastasiia Bobovnikova, Spokeswoman for Luhansk operational-tactical group, the number of attacks decreased towards Kramatorsk, Toretsk, and Siversk. Eight clashes occurred yesterday.

Kharkiv oblast

According to General Staff, towards Kharkiv, russian invaders attacked the positions of Ukrainian Defence Forces twice near Vovchansk and Lypky.

Towards Kupiansk, russians attacked twice near Lozova and Vyshneve, one of the attacks was repelled.

Towards Lyman, the russian army attacked seven times, particularly near Petropavlivka. Six clashes ended, another one is ongoing.

At 22:18, russians attacked the city of Kharkiv, Osnovianskyi district. As a result of the guided bomb attack, 4 residential buildings, 6 non-residential buildings and 14 cars were damaged. 11 people were injured.

At 22:15, russians attacked Kharkiv, Kyivskyi district. The shelling damaged 7 residential buildings, 8 non-residential buildings, 3 cars and a petrol station. One person was injured.

At 15:28, russians attacked Novoplatonivka village, Izium region. A private house was damaged, and the structural elements of the residential building caught on fire. The bodies of a 71-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman were found under the rubble.

At 15:00, the russians attacked Bohuslavka village, Izium region. The shelling damaged a private house.

 Four clashes with russian invaders occurred towards Kharkiv. Ukrainian troops repelled two attacks in Vovchansk, and two more continued.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried 11 times to force ukrainians units out of their positions near Holubivka, Kolisnykivka, Lozova, Pishchane, Vyshneve and Novoosynove. Four attacks are ongoing.

As a result of intensified evacuation measures, 118 people (including 3 children) were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova regions overnight.

In case of a possible power outage, there are 913 Invincibility Points in the oblast. More than 100 of them are already open. Others will be opened as needed.

As a result of the 58th exchange, four Ukrainian defenders living in Kharkiv oblast were released from captivity. These are one Kharkiv resident and three residents of Chuhuiv region, namely Vovchansk, Staryi Saltov and the village of Lisne.

Donetsk oblast

Volnovakha region. A house was destroyed in Bohoiavlenka of Vuhledar community.

Pokrovsk region. A person was wounded in Kurakhove, 3 multi-storey buildings and numerous private houses were damaged; 1 person was wounded in Illinka and Novoselydivka; 5 houses were damaged in Dachne, 3 more in Kurakhivka. In Pokrovsk, 4 houses and a shop were damaged; in Shevchenko, an administrative building, a shop and a social institution were damaged; in Novotroitske, 3 administrative buildings and a house were damaged. In Myrnohrad, 8 buildings were damaged.

Kramatorsk region. A house was damaged in Mykolayivka of Kostiantynivka community.

Bakhmut region. In Siversk, 3 garages were destroyed by an aerial bomb. In Chasiv Yar community, 7 private houses, a multi-storey building and 3 industrial buildings were damaged.

In total, russians fired 19 times at the settlements of Donetsk oblast over the last day. 81 people, including 15 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Luhansk oblast

On 20 October, the occupiers tried to advance near Hrekivka and in Serebrianka forest, but their intentions were stopped by the Defence Forces. The enemy actively used cannon artillery, in particular, near Balka Zhuravka. They sent 19 drones to target Ukrainian defenders positions.

The so-called ‘luhansk People’s Republic’ is implementing non-standard methods to identify men of conscription age and increase mobilisation rates. Among them is the opening of ‘Fathers of russia’ branches, where men are invited to join. Such territorial branches have already started working in Kadiivka and Stanytsia Luhanska. Sievierskodonetsk is next in line. You can join the organisation via a telegram bot, providing personal data, including information about your children, which will be forwarded to military enlistment offices.

Students in Starobylsk region are offered money and a social package for signing a contract with the russian army. Such offers come from teachers at schools. Local high school students will be drafted in a year or two, but the teachers emphasise signing a contract as the most financially beneficial form of military service. They insist on receiving money and going directly to the front, where russians need a significant number of infantry.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that on the night of 21 October, the russian army attacked Kyiv with drones. Wreckage of downed drones was found in three districts of the capital. In Solomianskyi district, a fire broke out on the roof of a one-storey building and was contained. In Dniprovskyi district, debris fell in an open area, damaging an electric cable. In a multi-storey building in Holosiivskyi district, the walls were partially damaged and windows were smashed. One injured person was reported in Solomianskyi district.

Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that in Kyiv oblast, two multi-storey residential buildings were damaged in one of the settlements as a result of the fall of debris from downed enemy targets, and one of the apartments was partially destroyed. A private house, a garage and three cars were damaged, in addition to a fire at a market and a fire in a field. The fires have been extinguished. All emergency services are working at the scene. A warming centre has been set up.

The State Emergency Service reported that the drone debris hit the roof of a 5-storey residential building in the village of Hlevakha, Fastiv region, causing partial destruction of the roof structure. Elimination of the aftermath of the enemy shelling continued there. Rescuers and police evacuated 45 residents from two entrances. Psychologists helped 48 people. No one was killed or injured.

Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defence, arrives in Kyiv for an unannounced visit. He plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. They will discuss Ukraine’s arms needs and US support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the next year.

FPV competitions were held in Kyiv for the first time. The event was chaired by the Unmanned Systems Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine and organised by Typhoon, the Separate Detachment of Special Purpose Unmanned Systems. More than 15 teams from different parts of Ukraine demonstrated high-tech samples of unmanned systems of their own production and competed for the championship in piloting FPV drones.

The NGO Ukrainian Women’s Guard held another self-defence training for women in Kyiv. The three-hour training consisted of a theoretical part and self-defence techniques, which included both individual and group exercises. The event was organised with the support of the European University.

On 20 October, a charity football match called My Match for Heroes took place at the Viktor Bannikov Stadium in Kyiv. War veterans wearing prostheses took to the pitch alongside celebrities.The goal of the match was to draw public attention to the importance of developing inclusive sports and reintegrating veterans and raise UAH 7.5 million for sports prostheses.

Donbas Media Forum-2024 took place in Kyiv last week. This year’s focus topic was Borders vs Frontlines: The Role of Regional Media in Protecting Freedom of Speech in a Long-Term War. The organisers reserved seats in the front row of the main hall called ‘Donetsk’ in memory of their fallen colleagues, as well as for those media professionals who were currently held in russian captivity or risked their lives working on the frontline. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration reported that another ‘safety classroom’ has been opened in Zhytomyr oblast – at the lyceum of the Vchorayshenka village council in Berdychiv district. This is the 183rd such class in  educational institutions of the oblast. The classroom is equipped with everything necessary for students to learn practical skills and be prepared for any emergency.

Sumy oblast

 On the morning of 21 October, the russian army launched a massive airstrike on Sumy, targeting residential areas and critical infrastructure with drones. According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, the attack, involving ten Geran-2 drones, caused damage in Luka and Pryshyb districts of Sumy. Seven hit sites were reported: two in industrial areas and four in residential zones, including a garage cooperative. Windows and roofs in 32 houses were damaged, along with a daycare centre, two cars, eight garages, and production and storage facilities. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

On the night of Monday, 21 October, the russian army launched an airstrike on critical infrastructure in Romny region of Sumy oblast. Acting head of Romny Region State Administration, Valentyna Nazarenko, reported that the attack targeted an energy facility, causing a fire that was extinguished by around 4a.m. Several settlements were left without power. The firefighting operation involved two vehicles and 12 rescuers.

During night and morning, russians carried out 23 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 48 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka communities, Romny  region.

During the day russians carried out 41 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 71 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivska, Shalyhyne, Esman, Seredyna-Buda communities.

Krasnopillia community: a Lancet-type UAV strike (1 explosion), FPV-drone strikes (5 explosions), barrel artillery fire (13 explosions).

Bilopollia community: russians dropped 51 mines on the territory of the community. There was also a strike by an FPV-drone (1 explosion), the dropping of an explosive device from a UAV (1 explosion).

Shalyhyne community: the enemy fired by mortars (16 explosions), barrel artillery (47 explosions). Also thy carried out strikes with FPV-drones (2 explosions), as a result of which a local resident was killed.

Yunakivka community: russians hit by barrel artillery (7 explosions), GAB (1 explosion).

Khotin community: artillery fire (5 explosions), mortar fire (5 explosions), FPV-drone strike (1 explosion) was carried out.

Sredyna-Buda community: shelling by barrel artillery (10 explosions), dropping of an explosive object from an unmanned aerial vehicle (2 explosions), hit by an FPV-drone (1 explosion) was recorded.

Velyka Pysarivka community: the enemy hit by barrel artillery (6 explosions), FPV-drones (2 explosions).

Esman community: the enemy dropped 12 mines on the territory of the community. An FPV-drone strike was also carried out (1 explosion).

On 19-20 October, the international tournament “Polish Open 2024” took place in the Polish city of Bielsko-Biała, featuring 1,972 athletes from 32 countries. Sumy Oblast was represented by the clubs “Progress” (Sumy), “Champion-Sumy,” and “Samurai” (from Hlukhiv and Shostka). Sumy athletes performed remarkably, securing multiple top spots. Valerii Sonnykh, Daniil Kasianov, Veronika Kotenko, Valeriia Asanova, and Darina Lazareva (who won two first places) claimed gold medals. Daniil Kasianov and Veronika Kotenko also brought home silver, while Anastasiia Ponomarenko, Denis Kuchma, Veronika Filatova, Anastasiia Derevianko, Rodion Drahun, and Zlata Kucher earned bronze medals.

Chernihiv oblast

The russian forces targeted four border communities in Chernihiv oblast. The fire was carried out using mortar, FPV-drones, UAVs and barrel artillery. 

Novhorod-Siverskyi community:

-2 explosions (hits, probably by an FPV-drone) in Kovpynka;

-2 explosions (hits, probably coming from an FPV-drone) in Pushkari;

-1 explosion (hit, probably by an FPV-drone) in Buda-Vorobiivska;

-3 explosions (hits, probably by a 120mm mortar) in Bohdanove;

– 2 explosions (hits, probably by a 120mm mortar) in Hremiach.

Semenivka community:

– 3 explosions (hits, probably from an FPV drone) in the vicinity of the village of Yanzhulivka and four explosions (arrivals, probably dropping an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle);

-3 explosions (hits, probably by a 120mm mortar) in Leonivka;

– 2 explosions (hits, probably by barrel artillery) in Mykolaivka;

– 2 explosions (hits, probably by barrel artillery) in Bleshnia;

-1 explosion (hit, probably by an FPV-drone) towards Liskivshchyna.

Snovsk community:

– 13 explosions (hits, probably by barrel artillery) in Huta-Studenetska;

-5 explosions (hits, probably coming from barrel artillery) in Zhovid and one explosion (hit, probably coming from an FPV drone).

Horodnia community:

-2 explosions (hits, probably dropping an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle) in Senkivka;

– 15 explosions (hits, probably by barrel artillery) in Moshchenko.

No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling.

Chernihiv oblast suffers daily from russian attacks. Over the past week, there have been 89 shellings, affecting 28 settlements. There were 278 explosions. The russian forces targeted critical infrastructure, destroying a residential building and a vehicle. Airstrikes have become more frequent, with 4 “Shahed” drones and 35 FPV drones used just in the past week.

Chernihiv regional police reported that from the border village of Kostobobriv, Novhorod-Siverskyi region, Chernihiv oblast, police evacuated a 34-year-old woman with her three children aged 6, 11, and 14. The distance from the village of Kostobobriv to the russian border is less than one kilometre. The woman expressed concern for the safety of her three children. Due to the shelling, staying in the village became increasingly dangerous. The local authorities provided temporary housing for the displaced family.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

At night, the enemy struck Kryvyi Rih by a missile. 2 women, aged 63 and 36, a 22-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl were injured. They received medical assistance. A hotel, 5 apartment buildings, a cultural institution, a bank, 2 shops and 14 vehicles were damaged. Also, the occupiers attacked Nikopol and Marhanets by artillery. There were no casualties reported.

Throughout the day, the enemy continued to attack on Nikopol. A 48-year-old man was injured. The area was hit by MLRS, artillery, kamikaze drones and an explosive was dropped from a drone. The attacks targeted the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske, Myrivske and Marhanets communities. 2 private houses were destroyed and 7 outbuildings damaged. A total of 66 private houses, 41 outbuildings, power lines, a gas pipeline and a truck were affected, along with other infrastructure. Updated information from Kryvyi Rih indicates 6 people sought medical care.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that a unique reconnaissance drone named Shchedryk, developed and produced in Vinnytsia, was handed over to the Ukrainian defenders by the Humanitarian Aid Coordination Headquarters.

According to the RMA, at night, air defence operated in Vinnytsia, destroying enemy UAVs. There were no casualties or damage reported.

An exhibition titled 86 Days of Mariupol Defence will run in Vinnytsia until 26 October. The exhibition reflects the chronology of events, spirit and bravery of the people who held off the enemy during the first months of the full-scale invasion and honours those who have been held in russian captivity for 3 years. It was created by the public organisation Heart of Azovstal as part of the M86 – Chronicle of Mariupol Defence project, based on eyewitness accounts from hundreds of military personnel and civilians. Families of prisoners of war and fallen defenders of Ukraine attended the opening, along with representatives of public organisations. The exhibition includes photos and biographies of 14 Heroes from Vinnytsia who were killed defending Mariupol, with stories prepared by Family Units are Unbreakable organisation.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, said that Kirovohrad oblast handed over a BRDM vehicle to the 121st Territorial Defence Brigade.

At night, russian drones were shot down in Kirovohrad oblast. There were no casualties or damage reported.

Poltava oblast

At Lyceum No.17, students, parents and teachers are making care bags for the military. These bags are filled according to personal choice and usually contain personal hygiene items, candies, tea and protective amulets made by children. Also, adaptive clothing is being sewn for defenders based on requests from hospitals and frontline soldiers.

Cherkasy oblast

According to Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, 6 enemy drones were shot down in Cherkasy oblast at night. There were no casualties or damage reported.

Another veterans’ hub has opened, this time in Drabiv community. The development of veteran support infrastructure in Cherkasy oblast continues, with 34 veteran hubs now in place. These multifunctional centres provide services for veterans and their families, including legal, psychological and social consultations. The centres also offer a space for veterans to communicate on a peer-to-peer basis, which is vital for their recovery.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the RMA, on 20 October, the occupiers launched 229 attacks on 10 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russian forces carried out 7 airstrikes on Lobkove, Piatykhatky, Novodarivka, Novodanylivka and Mala Tokmachka. A total of 97 UAVs of various modifications attacked Lobkove, Huliaipole, Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka and Levadne. There were 11 MLRS strikes on Lobkove, Novodanylivka and Robotyne. Also, 114 artillery strikes targeted Lobkove, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Levadne. 17 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure were received. There were no civilians injured.

3 people were killed and 16 injured in russian attack on Zaporizhzhia. 2 men, aged 44 and 42, died at the scene and a 44-year-old woman died in the hospital. 10 people remain in medical facilities, 5 in moderate condition and 2 in critical condition. More than 30 houses were damaged.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the RMA, at night, air defence forces in Mykolaiv oblast destroyed 3 Shahed 131/136 UAVs.

On 20 October, at 3:08pm, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community with an FPV drone. There were no casualties reported. On 21 October, at 2:40am, the coastal waters of Ochakiv community came under artillery attack. No casualties were reported.

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said that Mykolaiv has provided 2 vehicles to defenders. One of the units performing combat missions in Kherson oblast received the transport.

He added that work is ongoing to equip shelters in Mykolaiv schools. 31 educational institutions have been reopened, while another 33 continue to operate remotely. Also, shelters in 15 schools are being renovated, with 11 expected to open by the end of the year.

A new department for organising support for victims and witnesses of war and other international crimes has started operating in Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The department works with victims or witnesses who already have procedural status. Interaction with them is conducted only with their consent and in adherence to the principle of confidentiality.

Odesa oblast

According to the South Air Command, during the night of 21 October, the air defence force shot down 10 strike UAVs, including 6 over Odesa. As a result of the evening missile strike on port infrastructure, a fire broke out. There were no casualties reported.

Due to falling missile debris in Odesa oblast, dry grass and an abandoned building caught fire, but no one was injured. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fires. After the missile attack, the russians launched a drone strike, but these UAVs were destroyed by air defence forces.

Mobile shelters are planned to be installed at mass gathering sites in Odesa. The city council has identified 11 locations where this needs to be done. The draft decision of the executive committee was published on the website of Odesa City Council on 18 October.

In Chornomorsk, a memorial plaque for fallen Ukrainian defender Pavlo Kolinkovskyi was unveiled. It was installed on the facade of the house where he lived.

Kherson oblast

On 20 October, Kherson, Komyshany, Bilozirka, Stanislav, Chervonyi Maiak, Beryslav, Novovorontsovka, Zmiivka, Zelenivka, Shyroka Balka, Novokairy, Stepanivka, Zymivnyk, Rozlyv, Dudchany, Sadove, Antonivka, Romashkove and Kozatske came under enemy attack and airstrikes.

russian troops targeted residential areas, damaging 2 apartment buildings and 23 private houses. They also destroyed an outbuilding and several private vehicles. 2 people were injured.

Air defence forces shot down a Shahed-131/136 drone over the oblast.

Around 1am, the russian military attacked Kherson. 2 men, born in 1975 and 1957, were injured. They were hospitalised with blast injuries and concussions. One of the men suffered a shrapnel wound to his forearm. Medical personnel provided the necessary assistance and the men will continue outpatient treatment.

In the morning, a resident of Beryslav sought medical attention after being struck by an enemy drone. The 32-year-old man sustained blast injuries and a concussion. Doctors are providing him with the necessary care.

Yesterday evening, russian occupation forces shelled Rozlyv settlement, damaging 6 private houses. There were no residents injured.

This morning, the occupiers dropped an explosive device from a drone on a resident of Mykilske. The 62-year-old man sustained blast injuries and a shrapnel wound to his leg. He was hospitalised for medical treatment.

russian forces also attacked a civilian vehicle in Novovorontsovka by a drone, wounding a 61-year-old man. He suffered blast injuries, head trauma and hand wounds. A medical team took him to the hospital, where he remains under medical supervision. Another man, aged 51, is in critical condition, having sustained blast injuries, chest and head wounds, brain contusions and eye trauma. He is receiving all necessary medical care.

An elderly resident of Kherson sought medical attention after being injured in the russian shelling of the city at midnight. The 75-year-old man sustained minor injuries, including blast trauma and a concussion. He received medical assistance and will continue treatment on an outpatient basis.

The medical mission of volunteer doctors in Kherson oblast continues. Last week, as part of the Mobile Clinics of Kherson project, doctors visited several settlements in Beryslav region: Orlove, Svobodne, Pryhiria, Kochubeivka, Zahradivka and Novobratske. Family doctors, neurologists, ophthalmologists, endocrinologists and cardiologists provided free consultations to patients. Specialists also offered ultrasound diagnostics, electrocardiography and laboratory tests. Over 550 residents received medical assistance.

Volyn oblast

The 37th Separate Brigade of Marines in Kurakhiv region received a D2 JI Mavic 3 Pro and 10 Raptor 8 FPV drones. The 150th Separate Mechanised Brigade received DJI Mavic Pro, DJI Mavic 3 T and 5 Raptor 8 FPV drones. The Military Unit A 2298 received 2 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters. Aid was provided by Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that currently, there are 126,502 people officially registered as IDPs in the oblast.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community received a fire truck from the sister city of Rybnik.

Lviv oblast

Joslain Cornet, Head of the Department of Energy, Infrastructure and Environment of the EU Representation in Ukraine, came to Lviv. He visited the construction site for the construction of social housing for wounded Ukrainians, which is being built as part of the Housing for Internally Displaced Persons and Reconstruction of Liberated Cities in Ukraine project.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne oblast, teachers are being trained to teach the Defense of Ukraine course. 130 teachers from Rivne oblast of the Protection of Ukraine course are already undergoing training. Most of them already taught this subject or stood in defence of Ukraine.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA reported that a comprehensive review of the state of civil defence in the oblast has begun in Ternopil oblast. The inspection is aimed not only at assessing the state of emergency preparedness, but also at training and providing methodological assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In Khmelnytskyi oblast, places of temporary residence for displaced persons are being examined. The inspection is carried out by representatives of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the protection of property and non-property rights of internally displaced persons and other persons affected by the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine and the VPO of Ukraine NGO.

Khmelnytskyi community sent 15 DJI MAVIC 3T Thermal quadcopters worth UAH 2.3m with a thermal imager to the military.

Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated UAH 22m for the continuation of the construction of shelters. Since the beginning of the year, UAH 135m has already been allocated for shelter.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Colonel-General Mykhailo Koval, Head of the National Defense University of Ukraine, Doctor of military sciences. They discussed the development of тmilitary education in Ukraine.

The RMA reported that Chernivtsi oblast is 100% ready for the heating season. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Lloyd Austin, Pentagon Chief, reported that the US will provide another package of military aid worth $400m to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukraine will receive new military aid worth $47m from Canada. The package will include small arms, ammunition and protective equipment. The funds will also be allocated for the training of Ukrainian troops.

The Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries, namely, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia and Denmark, will allocate a “winter package” of financial assistance worth EUR 44m to Ukraine. The package will be directed to the purchase of generators and solar batteries. The relevant decision was signed by the ministers of foreign affairs of the NB8 countries during their visit to Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Lloyd Austin, US Defense Minister. They discussed possibilities of the air defence of Ukraine, preparations for the winter period and the expansion of the use of long-range weapons against russian military facilities.

Gabrielus Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, stated that the Victory Plan of the President of Ukraine is quite realistic and implemented.
