On 22 February, there were 53 combat engagements on the front. From the territory of the russian federation, the adversary launched artillery strikes on the vicinity of settlements, specifically Huta-Studenetska, Yasna Polyana, and Khrinivka in Chernihiv oblast; Bezsalivka, Budky, Chuikivka, Ryzhivka, Studenok, Tovstodubove, Buniakyne, and Prohres in Sumy oblast.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there was one combat engagement with the enemy. The adversary carried out 46 strikes on settlements and positions of our units, including six involving the use of MLRS.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the adversary attacked once in the vicinity of Dvorichanske; the combat engagement is ongoing.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to advance once towards Hlushkivka.
Towards Lyman, Ukrainian warriors repelled five attacks by the invaders in the vicinity of Drobysheve and towards Novoserhiivka and Oleksandrivka.
Towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, no enemy offensive actions have been recorded at this time.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out 12 offensive actions near Pleshchiivka and Sofiivka, and towards Illinivka, Kostiantynivka, and Stepanivka. Two attacks are still ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, since the beginning of the day, the russian occupiers have made 14 attempts to push our warriors from their positions in the vicinity of Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Udachne, and Filiia, and towards the settlements of Bilytske and Hryshyne. The defense forces are restraining the pressure and have already repelled 13 attacks.
Towards Oleksandrivka, the aggressor attacked four times in the vicinity of Stepove, Kalynivske, and Ternove, and towards Nove Zaporizhzhia. One combat engagement is ongoing. Pokrovske and Prosiana were hit by airstrikes.
Towards Huliaipole, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine attacks by the occupiers in the vicinity of Huliaipole and towards Zaliznychne. Furthermore, enemy aviation launched strikes on the settlements of Rizdvianka, Kopani, Dolynka, Tersianka, Zirnytsia, Vozdvyzhivka, Huliaipilske, Charivne, Novomykolaivka, Samiilivka, and Liubytske. Four combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Orikhiv, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders twice in the vicinity of Prymorske and Stepove. Tavriiske, Komyshuvakha, and Veselianka were hit by airstrikes involving guided aerial bombs.
Towards Kherson, there were no active enemy offensive actions.
In other areas, there were no significant changes in the situation.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
According to the General Staff operational update, towards Southern Sloboda, a combat engagement is ongoing in the vicinity of Dvorichanske. Towards Kupiansk, the adversary also attempted to advance near Hlushkivka.
There were 138 combat engagements in the oblast.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy made one attempt to break through the defensive lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the vicinity of the settlement of Dvorichanske.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked four times in the vicinity of Pishchane.
According to Kharkiv oblast police press service, an Ukrposhta vehicle sustained damage due to a russian FPV drone attack in Klynova-Novoselivka, Bohodukhiv district, on 21 February; no injuries were reported.
Over the past day, 12 settlements in Kharkiv oblast came under enemy strikes. Six people were injured as a result of the shelling.
In the village of Vasyliv Khutir (Chuhuiv community), a 51-year-old man was injured; in the village of Artilne (Lozova community), six men and women aged 36 to 63 suffered from acute stress.
Additionally, in the village of Malynivka, the remains of a person killed in the shelling on 20 February were discovered.
The enemy actively utilized various types of weaponry across Kharkiv oblast:
- 2 Geran-2 type UAVs;
- 2 Lancet type UAVs;
- 2 Molniia type UAVs;
- 3 FPV drones;
- 30 UAVs (type being established).
Civilian infrastructure objects were damaged or destroyed:
- Bohodukhiv district: a vehicle damaged (Klynova-Novoselivka);
- Kupiansk district: a private house damaged (Mykhailivka);
- Izium district: power grids damaged (Oskil), a vehicle damaged (Chornobaivka);
- Lozova district: 2 private houses damaged (Artilne), an outbuilding damaged (Slobidske).
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 135 people over the past day. A total of 19,999 people have been registered at the point since its opening.
According to Doctor of Technical Sciences Stanislav Ihnatiev, an emergency situation regarding energy deficit has been declared in Kharkiv and the oblast since 10 February. Due to russian strikes on thermal and electrical power generation facilities, there is a need to decentralize the power grid—generating energy at the point of consumption.
Today marks one year since the launch of the differentiated air raid alert system in Kharkiv, which became operational on 22 February 2025. Over this period, 2,090 alert signals sounded in the city with a total duration of 2,856 hours and 38 minutes, while Kharkiv oblast saw 2,389 signals lasting 5,128 hours and 1 minute. Thanks to the new system, the duration of alerts in Kharkiv decreased by 2,271 hours (44%), and the number of signals was nearly halved. The system meets international standards, operates during blackouts, and includes a voice-clarification feature regarding the type of threat; it was implemented in the city following specific approval from the General Staff.
79-year-old Kharkiv resident Hryhorii Hladysh has been living without water or heating for four years in a damaged 16-story building in Pivnichna Saltivka. The man is the sole resident of the building and climbs to the ninth floor on foot daily, as the elevator has been out of service since 2022. In winter, the temperature in his apartment drops to 8–10°C; he uses a gas stove and electric radiators for warmth. Power is cut for several hours every day. He fetches water from a local spring and eats at a free meal distribution point. The City Council notes that relocation is available for residents of such buildings—they must contact the district administration.

Donetsk oblast
Over the past day, russian troops attacked 29 times towards Pokrovsk in the vicinity of Shakhove, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Molodetske, Muravka, and Novopavlivka, according to the General Staff.
Towards Kostiantynivka, russian troops carried out 14 attacks, with another 9 occurring towards Sloviansk.
Control was restored over eight settlements and an area of over 300 square kilometers. Air Assault Forces are conducting an operation towards Oleksandrivka, according to a report by the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the night of 22 February, the Unmanned Systems Forces liquidated two Tor SAM systems near occupied Donetsk and Mariupol and struck an oil depot in occupied Luhansk, reported the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, call sign “Mahiar.”
The russians are applying pressure using small groups and drones towards Pokrovsk within the sector of responsibility of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, mining routes and attempting to cut off logistics, according to Taras Myshak, a senior officer of the brigade’s communications unit.
According to Viktor Trehubov, Spokesperson for the United Forces Group, russians have intensified pressure towards Lyman: moving in small assault groups, they are attempting to bypass Ukrainian defenses through Drobysheve, Stavky, and Yampil, while simultaneously striking infrastructure and logistical routes. Despite constant attempts at infiltration, the enemy is unable to advance — Ukrainian defenses are holding the line, destroying groups on the approaches, .
Following a russian strike on Sunday morning on the central market of Sloviansk, owners of damaged stalls were clearing debris while others continued to trade. A russian army drone damaged several commercial pavilions.
On the night of 22 February, russian troops shelled Kramatorsk, reported the head of the City Military Administration, Goncharenko. At 00:30, russian forces struck the private sector of the hromada using the Tornado-S MLRS. According to preliminary information, there were no injuries. Three houses were damaged.
During 21 February, police recorded 1,414 hostile strikes. Six settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Sloviansk, and the village of Orikhuvatka. 12 civilian objects sustained damage, including 6 residential buildings.

The enemy attacked Druzhkivka with UAVs and dropped four KAB-250 guided aerial bombs—one person was killed, and another was injured. Damage was sustained by 4 private houses, 2 non-residential premises, and a garage cooperative.
The russians struck Kostiantynivka with tube artillery—a civilian was killed, and a private residence was destroyed.
In the village of Orikhuvatka, one person was killed as a result of an FPV drone strike.
During a drone attack on Sloviansk, a private house was damaged; in Kramatorsk, two trucks sustained damage.
It was also established that on 20 February, the russian army dropped three KAB-250 bombs on Druzhkivka—11 private houses were destroyed.
Luhansk oblast
Towards Lyman and Sloviansk, russian troops carried out 16 attacks over the past day; in Luhansk oblast, the strikes originated from Tverdokhlibove. The adversary utilized mortars three times, opened fire with automatic grenade launchers, and deployed drones.
In the occupied part of Luhansk oblast, the occupation administration is preparing to introduce an additional tariff for the capital repair of apartment buildings: contributions are planned to be calculated throughout the year, with a separate line item to be added to utility bills starting in 2027; this will affect 85% of the housing fund.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, in occupied Luhansk, there are plans to seize 690 apartments declared “abandoned” due to alleged debts. The real estate is being transferred to individuals loyal to the russian federation.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
On the night of February 22, Russian troops carried out a massive missile and drone attack on peaceful settlements and critical infrastructure facilities in the region. In the Kyiv region, one person was killed and 15 were injured. Among the injured are four children, who are receiving all necessary medical and psychological assistance.
According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, the largest number of casualties was recorded in the Fastiv district, where rescuers pulled eight people from under the rubble after a building was destroyed. Seven of them sustained injuries of varying severity. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, one man died from his injuries.
Infrastructure facilities, as well as private residential and outbuildings, were damaged.

As a result of the massive Russian attack, destruction and fires were recorded in the Obukhiv, Brovary, Boryspil, Bucha, and Fastiv districts of the region, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported.
In the Boryspil district, a private house was damaged due to the enemy attack. One woman was injured. A farm outbuilding also caught fire; the blaze has been contained. A church was damaged as well.
In the Brovary district, 10 premises in a garage cooperative were damaged. The fire has been extinguished.
Five private houses were damaged in the Fastiv district. Eight people, including one child, were rescued from under the rubble. A 49-year-old man died from his injuries.
In the Bucha district, two private houses and a vehicle were damaged.
In the Obukhiv district, damage to warehouse facilities and a private house was recorded.
In the private residential sector of Sofiivska Borshchahivka, debris damaged several houses, and one house caught fire. During the response to the shelling in the residential area of the village of Sofiivska Borshchahivka, rescuers saved a man.


The aftermath of the Russian shelling is still being addressed. As of 12:00, all fires at eight locations across various districts of the region have been extinguished, the Kyiv Regional State Emergency Service (SES) reported.
In the village of Putrivka in the Fastiv district and in the settlement of Sofiivska Borshchahivka, rescuers are continuing to clear the rubble of destroyed houses. A tent has been set up to provide warmth for residents of the homes damaged by the explosions. Psychologists from the SES are also working on-site to support the affected people.

As a result of the enemy attack in the capital, missile debris was recorded in the Dnipro, Sviatoshyn, Desnianskyi, and Podil districts, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported.
In the Dnipro district, a missile fragment fell near an ambulance substation. There were no fires, damages, or casualties. At another location, debris in the yard of a residential building damaged a car. Fragments were also found in an open area, in the yard of another building, and in a park area opposite a high-rise.
In the Sviatoshyn district, the blast wave shattered windows in several residential buildings and an office space. No one was injured.
In the Desnianskyi district, missile debris fell in an open area.
In the Podil district, fragments fell in an open area without causing any fire.
Zhytomyr oblast
About 300 active-duty and demobilized Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel receive consultations and assistance each month with obtaining documents, as well as information about programs, benefits, and rehabilitation, at the “Veteran Care Space” operating in the Zhytomyr Regional Clinical Hospital named after O.F. Herbachevskyi.
On February 21 in Zhytomyr, on Serhiy Korolyov Square, the families of prisoners of war and missing soldiers held another peaceful rally. The goal was to support their loved ones who, while defending Ukraine from Russian forces, either ended up in captivity or whose fate remains unknown. Participants held themed posters in support of the soldiers, brigade flags, and photos of missing and captured service members.
On February 19, the Zhytomyr Regional Armwrestling Championship for war veterans took place in the UTOS gym in Zhytomyr. Fifteen athletes participated – veterans from Korosten, Zhytomyr, Zviahel, as well as current service members defending the country from Russian aggression.
In the village of Liubovychi, in the Malyn community, a charity event was held during the Masnytsia celebration to raise funds for camouflage net materials for the military. The event brought together residents from all villages in the Liubovychi district, with transportation provided for attendees.
Sumy oblast
As a result of a Russian KAB attack on the private sector of Sumy on the morning of February 21, two people were injured – a pensioner and a five-year-old child. Two houses were destroyed, and over 15 were damaged, Sumy Municipal Security Department head Vitaliy Deinichenko reported.

Russian forces struck the American company Mondelez in Trostianets with a missile. The enemy missile hit one of the production buildings, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha reported on the evening of February 21. He emphasized that this was a purely civilian enterprise operating since the 1990s and noted that by hitting the facility, Russia struck not only Ukraine but also American business interests.

As of the morning of February 22, Russian shelling over the past day has killed six people and injured six others, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported.
In the Shostka community, an enemy drone struck a civilian car, killing a 61-year-old man. His 56-year-old wife was injured, and another passenger, a 48-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries.

On February 21, the enemy dropped an explosive device from a drone on the outskirts of the Znob-Novhorodka community. Two brothers were injured by the explosion and were being evacuated by medical personnel. On the way to the hospital, Russian forces deliberately targeted the ambulance with an attack drone. This strike killed four people: the two brothers, aged 17 and 25, and a married couple – the woman was a medic, and the man was a police officer assisting with the evacuation. In the Boromlianska community, a 56-year-old man was injured by an enemy drone strike.
In the Trostianetska community, a 41-year-old man was injured in a missile strike.
In the Sumy community, a 63-year-old woman was injured by a UAV strike.
In the Velykopysarivska community, an 85-year-old woman was injured by an enemy drone strike.
From the morning of February 21 to the morning of February 22, Russian forces carried out 55 attacks across 26 settlements in 14 territorial communities of Sumy region. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy, Shostka, and Okhtyrka districts. The enemy used artillery, FPV drones, UAVs, guided aerial bombs, and conducted a missile strike. During this period, the air raid alert in the region lasted 23 hours and 5 minutes.
Damages to civilian infrastructure include:
- Shostka community: a private car was damaged.
- Znob-Novhorodka community: an ambulance, a school building, a private house, and a car were damaged.
- Richkivska community: an outbuilding was damaged.
- Sumy community: a civilian infrastructure facility, private houses, cars, and an outbuilding were damaged.
- Boromlianska community: a private house and a car were damaged.
- Trostianetska community: non-residential buildings were damaged.
Chernihiv oblast
On the morning of February 22, Russian FPV drones damaged residential houses and outbuildings in Koriukivka district. On February 21, a drone struck a power line and a communications facility, Chernihiv Regional Military Administration head Viacheslav Chaus reported.
On February 21, Russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv region: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar fire (two explosions), strikes with “Molniya” UAVs (two explosions), FPV drones (21 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from drones (three explosions). Nine settlements came under enemy fire, the Chernihiv Border Guard reported.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
The occupiers struck with drones and artillery in the district center, as well as in the Myrivska, Pokrovska rural, and Chervonohryhorivska communities, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Mykola Lukashuk, reported. A 42-year-old man was injured and received necessary medical assistance. Three cargo vehicles were damaged.
The enemy used UAVs to attack the Vasylkivska and Mezhivska communities. A private house caught fire, and an 84-year-old woman was injured. A private home, an outbuilding, and two garages were damaged.
The enemy attacked the district with artillery and drones, targeting the district center, as well as the Marganetska, Myrivska, Pokrovska rural, and Chervonohryhorivska communities. Three women were injured. The attacks damaged a market, two apartment buildings, four private houses, two outbuildings, a business, a vehicle, and a dormitory.
The occupiers struck the Pokrovska and Novopavlivska communities with cluster munitions and drones. A 49-year-old woman was injured. A private house caught fire, and a store, an educational facility, and a cultural institution were damaged.
Kirovohrad oblast
As a result of the enemy attack in Kropyvnytskyi district, several private houses and a power line were damaged, Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration head Andriy Raykovych reported.
Poltava oblast
At night, during another enemy attack in the Poltava region, air defense systems were active, the Poltava Regional Military Administration reported. In Poltava district, missile debris from a UAV damaged the fences of private properties.
Cherkasy oblast
In the Cherkasy region, air defense forces intercepted three Russian missiles and a dozen UAVs, Cherkasy Regional Military Administration head Ihor Taburets reported. In Cherkasy district, the blast wave damaged windows in at least five residential buildings, as well as several outbuildings.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
A 45-year-old woman was killed and a 48-year-old woman was injured as a result of a cluster munition (KAB) attack on Novomykolaivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported.
The Russian army struck Zaporizhzhia’s transport infrastructure, Fedorov added.
Over 590 strikes were carried out by Russian forces across 41 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia region on February 21. This included 21 airstrikes on Komyshuvakha, Novooleksandrivka, Yuliivka, Shevchenkivske, Tavriiske, Rozivka, Barvynivka, Huliaipilsk, Luhivske, Novoukrainka, Hirke, Zaliznychne, Myrne, Dolynka, Liubitske, Verkhni Tersi, and Charyvne, according to Fedorov.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 36 Russian attacks in the Huliaipilsk and Orikhiv directions on February 21, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. Clashes occurred in the areas of Huliaipole, Staroukrainka, Zaliznychne, Zelenyi, Sviatopetrivka, Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zahirne, Myrne, Hirke, and Prymorske.
According to updated data, two men aged 64 and 76 were killed in a Russian UAV attack on Orikhiv on February 21, the National Police of the region reported.
Two fires occurred in Zaporizhzhia district due to Russian shelling on February 21, the State Emergency Service of the region reported. The fires affected an outbuilding, a summer kitchen, and a gas pipeline.
Mykolaiv oblast
Russian forces used drones to attack civilian infrastructure in Snihurivka. There were no casualties or injuries, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ivan Kukhta, reported.
A couple, both 58 years old, were injured in a Shahed drone attack on Mykolaiv, the Regional Military Administration reported. Both are in moderate condition and were hospitalized. Their house was damaged.
During the night of February 22, the Russian army attacked Mykolaiv with Shahed drones, the administration added. A transport infrastructure facility was damaged. Air defense systems shot down 13 Shahed drones and imitation UAVs.
On the morning of February 21, Russian troops carried out an artillery strike on the Kutsurubska community, damaging a private house and a power line. No injuries were reported, the administration said.
Odesa oblast
The Russian army attacked the energy infrastructure in the Odesa region. The strikes caused large-scale fires, which were extinguished by rescuers, the Regional Military Administration reported.

Kherson oblast
Around 3:00 PM, Russian forces attacked Osokorivka in the Novovorontsovka community with UAVs, the Kherson Regional Military Administration reported. A 57-year-old man was injured when FPV drones struck a residential building. He sustained mine-explosion trauma, acoustic trauma, and shrapnel injuries to his face, arm, and abdomen.
Medical assistance was also needed for two Kherson residents who had been attacked the previous day by Russian UAVs in the city center. A 54-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman suffered explosive injuries, concussions, and acute stress reactions.
Around 10:30 AM, Russian forces shelled the Dnipro district of Kherson, the administration reported. A 55-year-old woman sustained a concussion, explosive injuries, and a closed traumatic brain injury. A 72-year-old woman was also diagnosed with a concussion, explosive injuries, and a closed traumatic brain injury.

Volyn oblast
Pidhaitsivska community reported that the death of Senior Sergeant Leonid Hrychanyuk, resident of the village of Borokhiv, born on 8 August, 1974, who was previously considered missing, has been officially confirmed. The Hero fought his last battle on 1 November, 2024 near the village of Pohrebki, kursk oblast .
Zakarpattia oblast
The 2nd and main stage of construction of Zakarpattia Regional Rehabilitation Center 4.5.0. Recovery Center has begun. The estimated cost of the project is EUR 13.2m. Financing is provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank on a parity basis.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The RMA reported that on behalf of the President of Ukraine, a state award was presented to Bohdan Dolishnyi – the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).
Lviv oblast
A terrorist attack occurred in Lviv. At around 00:30 am, the 102 hotline received a report of a break-in at a store. After the patrol police crew arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Later, when the second crew arrived, another one was heard.
It has been previously determined that improvised explosive devices were detonated. A 23-year-old policewoman was killed as a result of the explosions. 23 injured people were hospitalized. A patrol police car and a civilian vehicle were damaged.
An investigative and operational team, explosives technicians, and other specialized services were at the scene. Victims are receiving necessary medical care.
Rivne oblast
The government has allocated UAH 25.87m for the completion of 2 school shelters in Rivne oblast. The state budget subsidy is provided for secondary education institutions in the villages of Vyry and Velyki Tseptsevichi. Currently, the readiness of the shelters there is over 85%.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil City Council reported that 21 servicemen received funds in the amount of UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi oblast is among the leaders in the number of applications for the VARTO: 4 years of support program. Within the framework of the competition, participants can receive from UAH 500,000 to UAH 1.5m (depending on the project budget) for starting or scaling a business.
Chernivtsi oblast
Families of prisoners of war and missing soldiers organized a memorial event in Chernivtsi. The march started from Independence Avenue and ended with a prayer service near the Heroes’ Stele on Central Square. Relatives of the soldiers and caring Chernivtsi residents joined the event. They held state flags and posters with photos of their relatives in their hands – as a symbol of memory and hope for their return home.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The Ukrainian film Traces has been awarded at the Berlinale. The film became the best documentary in the Panorama program. This is the 1st main award for a Ukrainian film in this section in the entire history of the participation of Ukrainian films.
A rally in support of Ukraine was held in Prague. The rally participants were addressed by Petr Pavel, Czech President, Vasyl Zvarych, Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, as well as Czech public activists, Ukrainian veterans, and families of military personnel, including the wives of missing defenders.
