It has been the 939th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 19 September, the situation at the front was marked by intense russian activity towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, where russians used all available forces and resources to achieve their goals. However, Ukrainian resilient defenders, in extremely challenging conditions, inflicted irreparable losses on the enemy with their professional actions, destroying them on land, water, and in the air.

There were 95 engagements on the front line.

During the day, a number of settlements in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts suffered from russia’s terrorist attacks. russians shelled Mykolaivka, Bobylivka, Riasne, Prohres, Zhuravka, and Vilna Sloboda with artillery. The vicinities of Yastrubyne, Pavlivka, Kekyne, Rudneve, Richky, and Velyka Rybytsia came under airstrikes. The enemy also launched 11 airstrikes towards Kursk region, using 14 KAB bombs.

Towards Kharkiv, russian occupiers once tried to assault Ukrainian defensive lines near Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, russians launched four active assaults on Ukrainian positions near Synkivka, Stelmakhivka, and Hlushkivka, with one engagement ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers held their defensive positions firmly.

Towards Lyman, the invader army carried out seven attacks on Ukrainian positions near Makiivka, Chernoshchyna, Nevske, and Torske. Five engagements ended without success for the enemy, and two continued.

Towards Siversk, Ukrainian defenders repelled three russian attacks near Verkhnokamianske, Ivano-Darivka, and Vyiimka, while four more were still underway.

Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders attempted to assault Ukrainian positions near Kurdiumivka, but the attack was repelled.

Towards Toretsk, the number of russian attacks increased to seven. russians concentrated their efforts near Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, and Nelipivka, where four engagements took place, and three assaults continued.

Towards Pokrovsk, russians, with air support, launched 22 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the vicinities of Vozdvyzhenka, Novotoretske, Hrodivka, Myroliubivka, Mykolaivka, Novohrodika, and Marynivka. The Defense Forces repelled 16 enemy attacks, while six assaults were still ongoing. Enemy losses are being clarified.

Towards Kurakhove, fighting continued near Tsukuryne, Heorhiivka, Kostyantynivka, and Katerynivka. According to updated information, 13 out of 36 russian attacks were repelled in this vicinity today. Fierce battles are ongoing.

Towards Vremivka, russians, with air support, attempted to storm Ukrainian positions four times near Vuhledar, Rivnopil, and Katerynivka, with two engagements still continuing.

Towards Orikhiv, the occupiers made three attempts to attack Ukrainian units near Piatykhatky and towards Novoandriivka. The terrorist army also fired unguided air rockets at Kamianske.

Towards Kherson, russians launched an airstrike near Mykolaivka. The invaders did not abandon their attempts to displace Ukrainian units from their positions, launching three assault actions today, with one engagement ongoing.


The Ministry of Economy reported that the first service became available under the “e-Dozvil” project, the declaration of compliance of the material and technical base with occupational safety requirements. It is impossible to submit an incorrectly completed declaration.

The UN reported that there will be power outages lasting from 4 to 18 hours daily this winter in Ukraine. The consequences of russian attacks will be long-lasting and require a comprehensive approach.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

According to the General Staff, russia conducted 130 attacks in the east over the last day. 

Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian troops repelled 46 attacks towards Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Krasnyi Yar, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, Marynivka, Myroliubivka and Mykhailivka. 

The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 40 attacks towards Kurakhove. The occupiers were most actively trying to advance in the vicinity of Kostiantynivka and Heorhiivka. In addition, russian troops attacked towards Tsukuryne, Ukrainske, Dalne and Zhelanne Pershe.

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, reports that at 06:27am in Kupiansk, three women and three men aged 50 to 85 years old were injured as a result of the shelling. All of them are in average condition.

At 05:41am, in Novoplatonivka village, Izium region, as a result of shelling, grass is burning in the open area.

At 05:00, in Kharkiv, the  KAB shelling affected a civilian infrastructure object. The windows and gates were damaged. 

At 04:55, in Kharkiv, industrial district, there was an enemy shelling with an unmanned aerial vehicle, which damaged a school building, a kindergarten and 1 apartment building.

The press service of the city council reported that two buildings and two windows in Saltivka district of the city and 22 buildings and 341 windows in the Industrial district were damaged as a result of the night and morning strikes by the russian federation.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov says that on the morning of 19 September, one of the russian anti-aircraft missiles hit an underground school in Kharkiv.

The day before at 23:50, in Kharkiv, Shevchenkivskyi district, there was an enemy shelling with S-300, as a result of which the blast wave damaged windows in 9 multi-storey residential buildings, a shop window, and a fire broke out in the forest nearby – 1 private house, 2 outbuildings and forest litter on an area of 1500 m2.

At 18:30, the village of Hlushkivka, in Kupyansk region, a 50-year-old man was injured as a result of the shelling. A 55-year-old woman was killed.

At 17:01, in Vasylivka village, Kupiansk region, as a result of the shelling from RSVF, the grass on the area of 5 hectares and a tractor burned.

At 15:59, in Kupiansk, as a result of the shelling, grass on the area of 500 square meters, a woodpile and a building were burning.

At 15:24, in Velyki Prokhody village, Dergachi community, as a result of the shelling the grass and houses were burning.

At 13:45, in Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region, as a result of the shelling a private house and an outbuilding on the area of 80 square meters burned, the grass on the area of 300 square meters.

At 13:05, in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi urban-type settlement, Kupiansk region as a result of the shelling the grass was burning on the area of 500 square metres.

At 11:00, in Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region, as a result of the shelling the grass was burning on the area of 0,5 hectares.

At 09:19, in Kupiansk, as a result of the shelling, grass was burning over an area of 200 square metres.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy attempted two assaults in the vicinity of Vovchansk and Tykhove.

Towards Kupiansk, 15 attacks took place over the last day. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Kruhliakivka, Stelmakhivka and Pishchane.

Donetsk oblast

At least 4 apartment buildings and a gas pipeline were damaged in a nighttime strike on Lyman.

There were 10 wounded over the past day according to Donetsk police.

russian troops fired 2,723 times at the front line and the residential sector.

The enemy shelled 13 settlements.

30 civilian objects were damaged – 12 residential buildings, businesses, a morgue, cars, agricultural machinery, and critical infrastructure.

russians dropped two UMPB D-30SN guided bombs on Udachne, injuring two civilians and damaging a private house, a car and critical infrastructure.

The occupiers hit Malynivka with two FAB-250 bombs with an UMPK module, injuring three residents and destroying a farm.

russia shelled Kostiantynivka with artillery – three people were injured, three apartment buildings, two civilian cars and the power grid were damaged.

One person was wounded in Toretsk and one in Chasiv Yar as a result of hostile shelling.

russian terrorists launched 4 UMPB D-30SN bombs at Druzhkivka, causing damage to the plant.

Myrnohrad withstood five bomb and artillery strikes, three private houses, a morgue, a business and a garage were damaged.

The RMA says that a private house was damaged in Pokrovsk and an industrial facility in Novoekonomichne. A critical infrastructure facility was damaged as a result of a hit from an unexploded ordnance. Due to the shelling of Pokrovsk, it is impossible to restore power supply in the northern part of the city. The town of Rodynske is also completely de-energised, but repairs will be carried out there.

From September 24, the free evacuation of residents of Donetsk oblast to the territorial communities of Chernivtsi oblast will begin.

In Dobropillia community, an increase in shelling is recorded, the russian army struck with guided aerial bombs for the first time in August. The front approached 30 kilometers from the border of the community, which has 40,000 residents, of whom about 7,000 are children.

In Donetsk oblast, 1,437 children live in cities and villages where forced evacuation of families with children has been introduced. The commission made a decision to introduce forced evacuation in three more villages of Velika Novosilka community.

Ivan Sekach, Spokesman of the 110th separate mechanized brigade, says that in the last three weeks, a decrease and sometimes absence of assaults have been recorded on the section of the front towards Pokrovsk, which is defended by the 110th separate mechanized brigade. russian troops previously concentrated their forces in the direction from the village of Ocheretyne towards Vozdvizhenka, were going to cut Pokrovsk – Kostiantynivka highway, but currently they have concentrated their efforts on expanding the flanks and searching for weak points in the Ukrainian defense. The road itself is currently dangerous, but it is possible to drive on it. At the same time, the occupiers continue to destroy roads to complicate logistics: they destroyed bridges in Pokrovsk.

In a shelter in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, animals evacuated from front-line settlements are rescued. Wounded, without limbs and care, most of them are from Donetsk oblast. According to Yana Rusina, co-owner of the Pegasus shelter, the biggest problem is not evacuation, but finding those who will shelter the animals.

Luhansk oblast

Artem Lysogor,  head of Luhansk RMA, says that yesterday, the russians targeted Nevske with a rocket salvo system. They also actively fired with barrel artillery – both at Nevske and at Makiivka. 96 drones were deployed towards these villages, 62 targeted Nevske.

The enemy’s offensives were repulsed by Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of Stelmakhivka, Bilohorivka, Nevske, and Makiivka.

Heads of educational institutions of the so-called “lpr” received orders to agitate students to sign a contract with the russian army in the future. Updated campaign materials will be sent to schools every week. Every Wednesday, responsible persons must report in accordance with the provided form on the volume of campaign materials distributed and placed in educational institutions, as well as provide links to the results of the work conducted among students in social networks.

In turn, throughout the fall, collaborators from the budget institutions of the occupied Luhansk oblast will conduct an agitation campaign among the population that still refrains from issuing a Russian passport. The relevant task came from the kremlin. It will be emphasized that from January 1, without this document, people will remain without any social guarantees.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv Regional State Administration announced that the Centres for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Kyiv oblast received tablets. To support the educational process and ensure access to quality education, the RMA handed over 77 tablets to children from Kyiv Regional Centres for Children’s Social and Psychological Rehabilitation. This initiative is aimed at integrating modern technologies into the educational process. This initiative is part of a comprehensive programme of support for children staying in the Centres for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation. The RMA continues creating favourable conditions for children’s education and development by providing the necessary resources.

The State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine reported that two more aeration plants have been installed on Desna River below the mouth of Liubych River, near Litki village, Brovary region, Kyiv oblast. The environmental monitoring of the water continues around the clock. The units operate along the entire width of the river thanks to a powerful diesel compressor. A 100-metre-long plastic air pipeline has been laid along the bottom of the Desna River to block the main river channel for aeration.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration reported that the process of establishing a Youth Council is underway in Teterivka community in Zhytomyr oblast. Recently, a two-day training seminar for community youth has been held in Teterivka community in Zhytomyr Oblast within the framework of the project Youth Councils in the Lviv, Zhytomyr and Poltava Oblasts. During the workshop, participants learned about a number of topics related to the role of the Youth Council in implementing youth policy in the community, methods of forming such a council, its responsibilities and powers. The training participants together with the trainers also discussed the topical issue of methods of involving citizens in the decision-making process and the practice of participatory democracy.

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration informed about the transfer of a collection of axes in memory of the Heroes of the Defenders to Zhytomyr Regional Museum of Local Lore. A serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine, Serhii Hvozd, handed over another collection of artefacts to Zhytomyr Regional Museum of Local Lore. The axes from the Middle Ages, Kyivan Rus and Chernyakhiv culture were bought from regional searchers and put together in one collection.

Sumy oblast

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that on 19 September, the russian army attacked Sumy with guided aerial bombs. At the time of the strike, 221 elderly residents were living in a local care home, 87 of whom had limited mobility. One person died in the hospital from their injuries, and 13 others sustained injuries of varying severity. A response centre has been established to manage the aftermath of the airstrike. The patients have been evacuated to specially prepared locations with all necessary conditions. Medical and psychological assistance is being provided. According to staff, 24 residents were on the fifth floor, which bore the brunt of the attack.

Oleh Zahorskyi, acting Head of the community, informed that on the same day, russian forces attacked Seredyna-Buda in Sumy oblast with drones. The attack caused a fire in the town, and the local hospital was also targeted. Two men, aged 51 and 34, were injured in the strike.

During night and morning, russians carried out 19 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 38 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Bezdryk, Mykolaivka, Yunalivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Esman communities.

During the day, 18 September, russians carried out 59 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 100 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Druzhbivka, Svessa, Seredyna-Buda communities.

In Trostianets, the reconstruction of apartment buildings at 53 Blahovishchenska Street and 9 Neskuchanska Street is ongoing. These buildings suffered significant damage during the city’s occupation in March 2022, including damaged roofs, facades, broken windows, doors, and balconies. At 53 Blahovishchenska Street, facade insulation and the installation of doors in the first entrance are underway. Next, the project will be adjusted to account for additional work and the internal heating systems. At 9 Neskuchanska Street, window and balcony block installation is nearing completion. Water supply and sewage systems are being replaced, and facade insulation is also in progress. The work is proceeding according to schedule, and once completed, 90 families will be able to return to their homes. The reconstruction is being funded by the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression by the russian federation.

Chernihiv oblast

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that on 19 September, russian forces attacked a local farmer in the border region of Chernihiv oblast using a drone. Initially, the drone dropped explosives on a vehicle the farmer used to transport workers to the farm, and ten minutes later, another explosive was dropped on his residential building.

During the day, Russian forces attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka. The attacks included shelling by artillery and mortars, drone strikes, and dropping explosives from UAVs, with a total of 59 explosions recorded.

Novhorod-Siverskyi community:

Towards Hremiach: seven hits, likely by explosives dropped by UAVs.

Towards Chaikyne: eight hits, likely by artillery.

Towards Vorobiivka: seven hits, likely by artillery.

Towards  Mykhalchyna Sloboda: two hits, likely by FPV drones.

Semenivka community:

Towards Zarichchia: 12 hits, likely by FPV drones.

Towards Tymonovychi: 12 hits, likely by 120mm mortars.

Towards Baranivka: three hits, likely by 120mm mortars.

Towards  Karpovychi: eight hits, likely by artillery.

No casualties were reported among the local population due to the attacks.

Additionally, a 30-year-old woman and her four children, aged three to 14, were evacuated from a border village in Chernihiv oblast. The village, located just three kilometres from the russian border, is frequently subjected to shelling due to its proximity to russia

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, informs that from the evening until the morning, the enemy continued to attack Nikopol using artillery, kamikaze drones, firing from Grads. They targeted Nikopol, Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov announced that from Vinnytsia, another 400 FPV drones were handed over to the soldiers of the “Artan” special unit of the intelligence and border guards. 

A robot for evacuating the wounded from the battlefield is being developed at a Vinnytsia enterprise. The new robot will take into account modern requirements of the military, in particular speed and maneuverability due to the active use of drones on the battlefield.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, employees of various utility companies and residents of damaged buildings have been sorting through rubble for the second day after the drone attack. 21 residential buildings were damaged, two of them suffered significant destruction. Currently, these two houses are temporarily cut off and disconnected from the gas supply. 

Poltava oblast

A commemorative plaque to aviator Oleksandr Datsenko was unveiled in the village of Hoholevo, Myrhorod region. It was installed on the facade of the school where the serviceman studied. The man was killed on May 20, 2024 during a rocket attack on Myrhorod. 

Cherkasy oblast

 Ihor Taburets, head of Cherkasy RMA, reports that at night, the defenders shot down an enemy UAV. At the same time, one of the educational institutions in the Zvenyhorod region was damaged as a result of combat work on another target.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 3 russian attacks near Piatykhatky and towards Novoandriivka near Orikhiv. The russian military also launched attacks on Kamianske by unguided aerial missiles.

It was reported that the russian military shelled Komyshuvakha and Novooleksandrivka communities at least 4 times. The blast wave damaged private houses.

The Defence Forces repelled 5 russian attacks near Novodanylivka and Mala Tokmachka on Orikhiv axis.

Yurii Karapetian, Head of Komyshuvakha community, reported that for the 2nd time in the past two days, the russian military attacked Komyshuvakha in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Emergency services are now addressing the aftermath.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, informed that during the night of 19 September, 1 woman was killed and 2 others injured due to a russian strike on Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Also, the russian military attacked Yuliivka in Novooleksandrivka community. As a result of the shelling, 1 woman was killed and another injured.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, reported that on the night of 19 September, air defence forces in Mykolaiv oblast destroyed 18 Shahed 131/136 drones.

According to Mykolaiv RMA, on 18 September at 4:45pm and 6:30pm, the russian military attacked Kutsurub community by FPV drones. As a result, a medical centre and a car were damaged in Dniprovske village. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

According to the Ukrainian Navy, in the Black Sea, there is one enemy ship capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 4 missiles.

Kherson oblast

The RMA said that on 19 September, the russian military struck Sadove in Kherson oblast. An 82-year-old man, who was in his yard, sustained an explosive injury and shrapnel wounds to his chin.

Mykola Mrochko, Head of the CMA, informed that on 19 September, russian troops shelled Inzhenerne in Kherson oblast. Houses were damaged, but no casualties were reported.

According to the RMA, around 4pm, the russian military attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a drone. A 39-year-old medical worker and a 58-year-old woman were injured due to an explosion.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The 5th Special Purpose Battalion of the 12th Brigade of the Azov and the National Police Department in Volyn oblast received cars thanks to the team of the Zachidna Linia LLC and the Ukrbrukht LLC. 2 SUVs have already left to perform their tasks on the combat fronts.

Zakarpattia oblast

Kramatorsk and Sloviansk Patrol Police reported that another evacuation train went from Donetsk oblast to Zakarpattia oblast. On board there are 54 people (including 17 children) from frontline cities.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Svitlana Onyshchuk, Head of the RMA, met with IDPs of Horodenkiv and Chernelitsk communities. Provision of housing, medical care, education and social support for IDPs were discussed.

Two families with children of the Ukrainian military went on vacation to the Carpathians. During the week, they will be hosted by the Bear Mountain recreation complex in Yaremche. For participants of the Care for the Hero’s Family project, comfortable accommodation, meals, and interesting and educational leisure time are provided. This year, over 350 native Heroes, including 220 children, received a week’s rest.

Lviv oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Ravi Shankar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Ukraine. India is ready to provide grants for civil infrastructure development projects, including hospitals. The maximum amount of the grant is $1.5m.

25 combat drones were sent to defenders from Drohobych region to the front. The funds were collected during a concert by Ukrainian artist Nadiia Dorofeeva. Thanks to the audience, UAH 250,000 were raised for almost 2 hours of the concert.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that this night in Rivne oblast, the Air Defense Forces shot down an enemy air target. There are no casualties. Appropriate services are working at the crash site.

The RMA held a meeting with community chicken coops. They discussed supporting the security and defence of the state. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the local budgets of Rivne oblast have directed UAH 2.6bn to the Defense Forces

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a meeting with representatives of the Cohesion and Regional Development Swiss-Ukrainian project of UCORD. Further cooperation, interaction with the UCORD project and promotion of its activities in Ternopil oblast were discussed. The goal of UCORD is for citizens, business and the state to contribute to effective and coordinated regional development.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the community sent 3 electronic devices worth almost UAH 1m and 7 DJI MAVIC 3E Enterprise quadcopters worth almost UAH 700,000 to the military.

Chernivtsi oblast

Kamianets community received a school bus brand IVECO FIAT A 45, which has 19 passenger seats, thanks to residents of Kamianka village, who live for a long time in Italy.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, reported that the EU will allocate an additional €160m to Ukraine to support energy security (€60m will be sent to support shelters and heaters and €100m of frozen russian assets will be directed to repair work and renewable energy sources).

Christian Lindner, Federal Minister of Finance of Germany, announced that the government allocates €50m for the treatment of wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

The European Parliament called for the lifting of restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons on the territory of the russian federation. 425 deputies voted “yes”, 131 – “no”, 63 – “abstained”.

Ukraine will receive $69.4m from Switzerland for digitalization of a number of services. Ukraine will direct these funds, specifically, to the digitization of healthcare services. The government will also focus on electronic notary, education, humanitarian demining and restarting the State Statistics Service. Part of the funds will be directed to support frontline oblasts, as the authorities consider it necessary to ensure access to public services in every community.
