The situation on the frontline is characterised by the enemy’s particular activity towards Kurakhove, Kupiansk and Pokrovsk. The occupier is using all available forces and means to achieve its goals, while Ukraine’s defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line and disrupting russians’ plans.
On 19 October, there were 71 combat engagements at the frontline.
Senkivka, Chernihiv oblast, suffered from terrorist attacks by enemy artillery. The enemy dropped four air bombs on Shostka, unfortunately, there are killed and wounded. There were also 24 enemy air strikes on the territory of Kursk oblast, using 34 anti-aircraft missiles.
Towards Kharkiv, russian occupiers stormed the defensive lines of Ukrainian troops six times in the vicinity of Starytsia and Vovchansk. At present, fighting continues in four locations.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy intensively attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops nine times in the vicinity of Kucherivka, Kolisnykivka, Kruhliakivka and Lozova, five of the engagements are ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold steadfastly the defence.
Towards Lyman, the invading army made five attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Novomykhailivka, Hrekivka, Terny and Serebrianka. The fighting continues.
Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops near Andriivka and Stupochky. The enemy’s attacks were repelled.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy, with the support of aviation, attacked the vicinity of Oleksandr-Shultyno, dropping guided aerial bombs on Toretsk and Katerynivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers made eight attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the vicinity of Myroliubivka, Promin and Selidove. The defence forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled five enemy attacks, three attacks are still ongoing. The enemy’s losses are being clarified.
Fighting continued near Zoriane, Novodmytrivka, Zhelanne Druhe, Hirnyk, Heorhiivka, Maksymilianivka, Antonivka and Katerynivka towards Kurakhove. According to the updated information, seven out of 21 attacks of the occupation army were repelled in that area. Fierce fighting continues.
Towards Vremivka, the enemy, with the support of aviation, twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Novoukrainka and Bohoiavlenka. Two firefights took place. Enemy aircraft attacked Bohoiavlenka with a guided aerial bomb.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian troops repelled two attempts to attack their positions near Mala Tokmachka.
Towards Kherson, the enemy continued to try to drive Ukrainian units from their positions, having carried out five attacks, with one firefight currently ongoing.
As reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, another 95 Ukrainian servicemen have been returned home. The released soldiers include National Guard, sailors, Armed Forces, border guards and representatives of other units of the Security and Defence Forces.
According to the Air Force, on the night of 19 October, russia launched 98 enemy drones and six X-59/69 guided missiles. Ukrainian defenders shot down 42 UAVs and 4 guided missiles.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Kharkiv operational and tactical group of troops reports that on 19 October, the russian army used 11 unguided aerial missiles in the north of Kharkiv oblast, launched 41 strikes with kamikaze drones and fired 272 times at the positions of the Ukrainian Forces. In this area, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed four pieces of special equipment, 46 shelters, five vehicles, three UAV launch positions, three armoured vehicles and one artillery system. On 16 October, the russian army lost 106 soldiers in the Kharkiv sector, 37 of them killed.
Yurii Fedorenko, Commander of the Akhiles attack drone battalion of the 92nd Separate Mechanised Brigade, informs that russians are trying to turn Kupiansk into Vovchansk by airstrikes. He noted that russian troops are literally ‘pressing’ both the left-bank and right-bank Kupiansk with their aircraft. Their task is to occupy bridgeheads on the left bank of the Oskil River with further access to Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and consolidation there.
Oleh Syniehubov, Hhead of the RMA, says that there were no enemy attacks on Kharkiv.
Around 14:20, Zolochiv village, Bohodukhiv region was struck with an unidentified enemy UAV. There were no casualties or damage.
A 77-year-old man who had been wounded in the previous day’s hostile shelling in Podoly village, Kupiansk region, sought medical assistance.
As a result of intensified evacuation measures, 289 people (including 11 children) were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova.
Donetsk oblast
The russian army is stepping up pressure on Kurakhove defence line. the General Staff said in a report that on 19 October, the occupiers stormed the positions of the Ukrainian military 55 times, in particular in the vicinity of Hirnyk, Kurakhivska, Heorhiivka and Novoselydivka, compared to 47 attacks the day before.
35 russian attacks were repelled by Ukrainian defenders towwards Pokrovsk near Romanivka, Selidove, Promin and Mykhailivka.
Towards Lyman, russian troops attacked 14 times near Hrekivka, Druzhelyubivka, Terny, Makiivka and Torske.
Pokrovsk RMA reported that in the evening of 18 October, the russian army shelled a coal mining enterprise near the village of Udachne. The occupiers damaged the building of the industrial site. Despite the attack, the company is operating normally.
At 22:45 yesterday, russian troops attacked Hryshyne. The village is without electricity due to the shelling.
Myrnohrad RMA said that one person was killed in the shelling on 16 October. Then Myrnohrad was shelled with artillery, and a victim was reported on 19 October.
Operational situation in the region as of the morning of 19 October:
Pokrovsk region. In Kurakhove, 1 person was killed and 2 injured, private houses and multi-storey buildings, a shopping centre and a supermarket were damaged. In Hirnyk, 1 person was killed, 6 five-storey buildings damaged. In Pokrovsk, a house, a shop and an infrastructure facility were damaged. In Hryshyne, 2 houses and a power line were damaged.
Kramatorsk region. In Piskunivka of Mykolaivka community, 2 houses, a non-residential building and a power line were damaged. In Kostyantynivka, 12 private houses, 2 administrative buildings, and 2 power lines were damaged.
Bakhmut region. In Chasiv Yar community, 6 private houses and a multi-storey building were damaged.
In total, russians fired 10 times at the settlements of Donetsk oblast on 19 October. 1729 people were evacuated from the frontline, including 740 children.
Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, informs that over the past day, russians killed 2 residents of Donetsk oblast: in Kurakhove and Hirnyk. Another 2 people were wounded.
Luhansk oblast
Near Hrekivka and Makiivka, the occupiers tried to find weaknesses in Ukrainian defence, but all attacks were repelled in this area. Near Balka Zhuravka, russians used multiple launch rocket systems and fired at the area from cannon artillery. 21 enemy drones were operating in the area.
By launching demonstration reconstruction works on several high-rise buildings simultaneously with one brigade, the invaders are trying to fulfil their annual plan in Sievierodonetsk. They announce the start of reconstruction, replace a few windows or doors and abandon the building after receiving the money for the entire order. Several of these unfinished buildings, along with their residents, have been waiting for the work to be completed since spring.
Residents of Lysychansk complain about arbitrariness of the occupation authorities. It is been over a year since the local mayor was replaced, but these actions have led to almost nothing. The certificates ordered by local residents for social benefits and other documents are issued by occupation authorities for longer than their validity period. Therefore, it is no longer possible to provide them to another structure – they must be reissued. Queues are growing and citizens are becoming increasingly dissatisfied.
The intelligence reports that in the centre of occupied Luhansk, the car of russian army Major Dmitrii Pervukha was blown up, he was killed. Pervukha was the head of the 273rd intelligence centre of the russian Armed Forces and was also the ‘chief of staff for the service of troops and security of military service’ in the occupied territories.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that the wreckage of the drones launched by russia on the night of 19 October fell in the open in Kyiv oblast. The air raid lasted all night. There were no hits to critical or residential infrastructure, and no casualties.
Vitalii Klychko, Kyiv Mayor confirmed that in Kyiv a young woman sustained a serious injury to her lower limb as a result of a UAV attack. She was hospitalised and underwent surgery. In Dniprovskyi district, shrapnel damaged the facade of a building, and in Darnytsia district, 3 residential buildings, 9 cars and a restaurant building were damaged.
Uzra Zeya, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Public Safety, Democracy and Human Rights, visited the MIA Situation Centre. The American delegation had the opportunity to see how the centre’s specialists are using open source intelligence (OSINT) to search for russian army war criminals who killed civilians in Bucha. Ukrainian law enforcement officers also demonstrated equipment received from partners to help document war crimes committed by the russian army in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Women’s Guard conducted two tactical medicine training sessions for the staff of the Lisova Polyana Centre for Mental Health and Rehabilitation of Veterans. The training was conducted by Heorhiy Vergun, an intern and tactical medicine instructor at the PULSE charity foundation.
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, met with families of 12 heroes who lost their lives defending the country from russian occupiers. These are the families of the soldiers of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade. On behalf of the President of Ukraine and the military leadership, he presented awards to the families of the fallen.
Trees were planted in Mariinskyi Park in memory of military musicians who died during the full-scale war. The event was organised by the independent musical formation Open Opera Ukraine, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, and the National House of Music.
A new episode of the documentary Resistance and Unity was presented in Kyiv. The screening took place as part of the VIII Kyiv Critics’ Week International Film Festival. In the film, leading Ukrainian filmmakers shared their vision of the role of cinema in shaping national identity and countering external aggression.
Zhytomyr oblast
Malyn Fire and Rescue Service reported that Local residents found a part of a cluster munition from the Uragan multiple launch rocket system in the Malyn community.
A general coordination meeting for Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr oblasts with representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine was held at the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration. The main goal of the meeting was to improve the coordination of humanitarian aid to internally displaced persons and restore damaged infrastructure.
Zhytomyr hosted the Zhytomyr Oblast Archery Cup for veterans and servicemen who have been wounded or injured. Athletes with musculoskeletal disorders also took part in the competition.
Sumy oblast
Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that on the night of 19 October, russian military forces carried out an airstrike on Shostka community using guided aerial bombs and drones. The strike targeted a fire and rescue unit, injuring five firefighters who were subsequently hospitalized. The building was partially destroyed, and six units of equipment were damaged. Additionally, two schools, 28 residential buildings, a kindergarten, a polyclinic, and other medical facilities were also damaged in the community. The body of a deceased man was found under the rubble, and eight more people were injured.
On 18 October, russians carried out 78 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 126 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Svesa, Druzhbivka, and Seredyna-Buda communities.
Velyka Pysarivka community: strikes by FPV-drones (4 explosions). As a result of the hits, the Gazelle car was damaged. Also, the enemy fired with mortars (2 explosions) and launched an anti-aircraft missile from a rotorcraft (10 explosions) and dropped explosive ammunition from an unmanned aerial vehicle (10 explosions).
Myropilia community: hit by FPV-drones (5 explosions).
Shalyhyne community: the russians dropped 1 mine on the territory of the community.
Yunakivka community: struck by FPV-drone (1 explosion), GABs (5 explosions), mortar shelling (3 explosions).
Khotin community: FPV-drone strikes (8 explosions), airstrikes by GAB (4 explosions), artillery fire (18 explosions), dropping of explosive munitions from UAVs (2 explosions) were recorded. As a result of the FPV-drone hitting the car, a local resident who was in the car at the time was injured.
Krasnopillia community: hit by an FPV-drone (1 explosion), artillery fire (13 explosions). Explosive devices were also dropped from the UAV (2 explosions)
Esman community: russians hit by mortars (1 explosion), artillery (8 explosions), FPV-drone (1 explosion).
Svesa community: FPV-drone strike (1 explosion).
Druzhbivka community: the enemy dropped 5 mines on the territory of the community.
Seredyna-Buda community: struck by FPV-drones (5 explosions).
Bilopollia community: explosive devices were dropped from UAVs (10 explosions), hit by 3 FPV-drones (3 explosions).
Nova Slobidka community: strikes by FPV-drones were recorded (3 explosions).
According to Sumyoblenergo, as a result of a drone attack, over 90,000 consumers in Shostka region were left without electricity, affecting 139 settlements. By 7a.m. on 19 October, more than 66,000 consumers in 134 settlements in this region were still without power. Overall, across Sumy oblast, more than 70,000 consumers were temporarily without electricity due to the strikes by the morning of 19 October.
Volodymyr Shtanko, Head of Lypova Dolyna community, reported that on 18 October, during a prisoner exchange, 95 Ukrainian servicemen returned to Ukraine. Among them was National Guard soldier Dmytro Smitiia, originally from Lypova Dolyna in Sumy Oblast. Senior Sergeant Dmytro Smitiya had been captured by russian forces in 2022 while defending Azovstal. He had been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment by an occupation court in the so-called dpr. Additionally, on the same day, Krasnopillia resident Volodymyr Kucherenko was also released from russian captivity.
Chernihiv oblast
It is reported that russian forces targeted three border communities in Chernihiv oblast – Semenivka, and Snovsk, and Horodnia.
Semenivka community:
– FPV- drones towards Orlykivka (3 his),
– FPV-drones towards Hremiachka (2 hits),
Snovsk community:
– barrel artillery towards Huta-Studenetska (14 hits),
Horodnia community:
– grenade launcher shots towards Senkivka (25 hits),
– reactive artillery on Polissia (11 hits).
No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported.
In Lynovytsi village, Chernihiv oblast, a Memory Alley dedicated to fallen heroes was opened. The alley features portraits of six servicemen, natives of Lynovytsi community, who lost their lives during the russo-Ukrainian war. According to the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, an arch and a cross were also installed near the alley, and a small park area was arranged. The project was initiated and funded by the local residents themselves, with a total cost of around half a million hryvnias. The work took three months to complete.
Seven veterans from Chernihiv Oblast participated in Strong Spirit’s Games international competition for veterans in Spain, winning a total of 29 awards. This impressive haul included 14 gold medals, 7 silver, and 8 bronze.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk City Council, reported that at night, the russian army attacked Nikopol region. They shelled Marhanets with artillery.
In Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk oblast, an action “Don’t be silent, captivity kills!” was held. Families of prisoners of war and residents of the city came to the Alley of Glory to remind them of the defenders of Mariupol, all the prisoners and missing persons.
According to Serhii Lysak, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, among the 95 soldiers who were returned from the russian captivity, 10 are residents of Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Five of them are from Kryvyi Rih.
Vinnytsia oblast
In Vinnytsia oblast, volunteers organise fishing trips for soldiers undergoing rehabilitation. Every week, several dozen soldiers are brought to the pond to fish.
Kirovohrad oblast
An on-site blood donation was held in Kropyvnytskyi. The event was organised by the NGO DonorUA. The blood was collected, as in previous years, for children with cancer, children from the haemodialysis centre and the military.
Poltava oblast
According to Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava Regional Military Administration, the enemy attacked Poltava oblast with a UAV. Two private buildings were damaged in Lubny region.
Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava Regional Military Administration, reported that the 58th exchange of prisoners of war took place. Ukraine managed to return 95 Ukrainian defenders from russian captivity. Among them is a serviceman from Poltava oblast, Vladyslav Andrianov, Staff Sergeant. He was taken prisoner on 19 May 2022 during the defence of Mariupol.
A reminder campaign “Don’t be silent. Captivity kills” was held. More than fifty people with posters, flags and photos of their relatives in captivity gathered near the city council.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that according to preliminary information, a total of 41 enemy UAVs and 2 missiles were destroyed by Air defence and electronic warfare forces. However, there were several hits, as well as consequences due to falling debris. As a result of a massive strike on Uman district, a woman born in 1961 died of her injuries. She was taken to a medical facility in a critical condition. A critical infrastructure facility was attacked in Cherkasy oblast. The consequences are being clarified. In addition, a Shahed drone hit a warehouse of a private enterprise. One person was injured. In the private sector of the regional centre, UAV debris damaged the windows of a residential building and the building of a children’s and youth sports school.
Major Mykyta Petryk, Senior Sergeant Oleh Badrak, Sergeant Oleksandr Kuzmenko, and soldier Serhiy Buriak returned to Cherkasy oblast as part of a prisoner exchange the day before.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that the russian military launched 2 KAB strikes on the centre of Zaporizhzhia. According to preliminary data, 4 people were injured. The airstrike damaged 12 buildings in 3 districts of the city.
According to the evening report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 2 russian attacks in Orikhiv axis near Mala Tokmachka.
Among those recently returned from captivity, 5 military personnel are from Zaporizhzhia oblast. All of them are undergoing medical examinations and will be sent for rehabilitation.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, on the night of 19 October, air defence forces in Mykolaiv oblast destroyed a Shahed-136/131 drone.
At 1:57am, the coastal area of Ochakiv community was under artillery attack. There were no casualties reported.
Odesa oblast
As reported by Oleh Kiper, Head of the RMA, during a missile attack on the night of 19 October, the russians targeted a residential area in Odesa, hitting a private sector with many houses. A three-story building and over 10 private homes were damaged.

Kherson oblast
As reported by the RMA, a 60-year-old man was injured in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson due to explosives dropped from a drone. He was hospitalised with blast trauma and a leg injury.
The russian military attacked utility workers in Kherson for the second time in 2 days by a drone. In today’s attack, 5 municipal workers in Dniprovskyi district were hit. 4 men and 1 woman were hospitalised with blast trauma and concussions.
Yesterday, russian forces attacked Zmiivka in Kherson oblast by drones. 3 hits were recorded, causing fires and damage to houses. There were no casualties reported.
In another attack in Kherson, a 30-year-old man was injured. He sustained blast trauma and a concussion.
According to the Southern Defense Forces, Southern Defence Forces repelled 7 russian assaults in Kherson. They also destroyed 21 pieces of weaponry and equipment, 2 observation posts, a firing position and 9 enemy bunkers.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
Ukraine returned 95 Ukrainian soldiers from russian captivity. Two military men from the oblast are among those released. Andrii Bohdan (born 1999), a National Guardsman from Kovel, who has been in captivity since May 2022. He received a “sentence” from the judicial system of the aggressor country and was “sentenced” for a long time. Ivan Skoropada, soldier of the 95th bridge (born in 2004) from the village of Hirnika, Kovel region. He has been in captivity since August 2023.
The 11th Artillery Battery of the 4th Artillery Division of the Military Unit A 1325 received an EW system Delta Tec and an EW radiation mask made of Faraday fabric from Lutsk community.
Zakarpattia oblast
The RMA held a meeting with the delegation of the city of Brno of the Czech Republic. They discussed the support of projects and initiatives provided by the Czech Republic to the oblast. One of the important projects that has already started concerns the construction of a rehabilitation centre for Ukrainian defenders in Uzhhorod on the territory of the former maternity hospital.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 75 drones to the military. 25 FPV drones were sent to the 4th Airmobile Battalion of the 79th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade and 25 FPV drones to the Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 10th MountainAssault Brigade Edelveis. These 2 units are holding the defence in Donetsk region. Another 25 FPV drones were sent to the 82nd Separate Communications Battalion of the 10th Army Corps. These defenders serve in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
200 family grocery sets were handed over to the people of Kolomyia community from the Global Empowerment Mission American CF and the HowardGBUFFETT Foundation.
Lviv oblast
After 2 years of russian captivity, Petro Shuflin, defender from Morshyn community, returned home. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the soldier participated in the defence of Azovstal. Peter is also a participant in the Revolution of Dignity. Defended Ukraine since 2014.
Oleh Huliovatyi, from the village of Horodyslavychy, Davydivska community, returned from captivity. He was in captivity for over 2 years.
Artists from Drohobych region created a mural at Hostomel stadium, which was destroyed by russians during the occupation. Artists from Drohobych region also involved young players of the Phoenix local soccer team in the project. Specifically, athletes left their drawings and autographs on the mural.
Rivne oblast
Among the released Ukrainian servicemen is 23-year-old Azov shooter Artur Niverchuk from Zdolbunov. He was captured in May 2022 while defending Mariupol.
There are already 10 Sustainability Centers operating in the oblast, about 30 more communities have submitted applications. This was discussed during the Mental Health Day, which was celebrated at the Center for Sustainability in Rivne.
Ternopil oblast
Among those released from russian captivity on 18 October are fighters from Ternopil oblast. Serhii Boichuk and Yehor Nastek were in enemy captivity since 2022. Currently, defenders are undergoing rehabilitation and medical examination.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
On 19 October, the Air Defense Forces shot down 1 UAV of the Shaheed type. There were no injuries, deaths or property damage.
Among the freed Ukrainian servicemen are 4 from Khmelnytskyi oblast. Warriors were captured in 2022 while defending Mariupol.
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated over UAH 5m for social initiatives related to the support of the military. In addition, property worth UAH 6m was donated to various military units.
Over 900 people who lost their homes due to the occupation or destruction of the russian federation need housing in Khmelnytskyi community. Therefore, the largest project of the community is currently being implemented – the construction of high-rise buildings with a grant from the EU for €8.4m.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA presented awards to families of the fallen soldiers. Junior Sergeant Mykola Laskovenko, Junior Sergeant Serhii Silinevych, Soldier Mykhailo Lola, Soldier Vasyl Volosheniuk, Soldier Andrii Berezovsky, Soldier Oleksandr Tolmach were awarded with the Defender of the Fatherland medal (posthumously).
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Yevhen Mezhevikin, Deputy Chief of the Main Department of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation into Ukraine, over 100,000 servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine have undergone training on the territory of partner countries.
The Executive Board of the IMF approved the 4th revision of the EFF program, which will allow Ukraine to soon receive a new tranche of about $1.1bn. The funds will be used to cover non-military budget expenditures.
The Danish government has announced its 21st military aid package of $350m. The package will include more funds for the purchase of new weapons and military equipment, additional donations from the defence reserve and more transfers of equipment through international partners.
The Netherlands will deliver drones worth €42.6m to Ukraine. These are modern drones of the DeltaQuad company.
Jean-Noel Barro, Head of the Foreign Ministry of France, stated that the country supported the Ukrainian Victory Plan.
Katsper Sienickib, activist from Poland, rode a bicycle for 850 km, starting his journey in Warsaw and finishing in Kyiv. Fundraising continued throughout the whole trip. So far, it has been possible to raise about €2,000. The funds will be donated to the Azov Suprovid organisation, which helps soldiers of the 12th Separate Brigade of the National Guard and their families.
