What happened in Ukraine today:
Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:
On 19 March, there were 187 combat engagements on the frontline. The Defense Forces continue to eliminate enemy personnel and exhaust the occupiers’ combat potential by delivering systematic fire damage.
The enemy launched 62 airstrikes, dropping 173 guided aerial bombs (KABs). Additionally, they deployed 5,176 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,902 shellings of settlements and our troops’ positions.
- Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk: The enemy conducted 85 shellings of our positions and settlements, including one using MLRS. They launched six airstrikes using 20 KABs. Two combat engagements were recorded.
- Towards Southern Sloboda: The enemy attacked Ukrainian units’ positions 19 times in the vicinity of Prylypka, Lyman, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Tykhe, Bochkovo, Okhrimivka, Zybyne, Chuhunivka, Fyholivka, and Krasne Pershe. One assault is ongoing.
- Towards Kupiansk: The enemy attacked nine times near Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Hlushkivka, Novoplatonivka, and Borivska Andriivka. Three attacks are ongoing.
- Towards Lyman: Ukrainian warriors repelled 16 occupier assaults in the areas of Hrekivka, Nadiia, Novomykhailivka, Novoserhiivka, Olhivka, Serednie, Korovii Yar, Drobysheve, Zarichne, Lyman, Dibrova, and Tverdokhlibove. One assault is ongoing.
- Towards Sloviansk: The enemy attempted to advance 12 times near Zakitne, Riznykivka, Rai-Oleksandrivka, and Platonivka. One attack is ongoing.
- Towards Kramatorsk: The aggressor twice attempted to improve their tactical position, attacking near Malynivka and Kostiantynivka.
- Towards Kostiantynivka: Occupiers launched 24 assaults against Ukrainian defenders’ positions near Kostiantynivka, Kleban-Byk, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka, Novopavlivka, and Stepanivka. One assault is ongoing.
- Towards Pokrovsk: The enemy carried out 27 attacks. Occupiers attempted to advance near Novyi Donbas, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Bilytske, Sukhetske, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novopidhorodne, and Novopavlivka. One enemy attack is ongoing. According to preliminary data, 151 occupiers were neutralized and 41 wounded . Assets destroyed: 2 armored fighting vehicles and 10 vehicles. Assets damaged: 30 shelters, a UAV control point, 2 guns, and 8 vehicles. Additionally, 242 UAVs of various types were destroyed or neutralized.
- Towards Oleksandrivka: Occupiers attacked nine times in the vicinity of Sichneve, Sosnivka, Krasnohirske, and Zlahoda. One attack is ongoing.
- Towards Huliaipole: Eight occupier attacks were recorded near Zelene, Zaliznychne, Dobropillia, and Myrne. Two assaults are continuing.
- Towards Orikhiv: The enemy attacked once near Stepove.
- Towards Kherson: There were no enemy assault actions.
In other directions, there were no significant changes in the operational situation.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Sumy oblast
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that as of 2pm on 19 March, three people were killed and 10 injured as a result of russian strikes in Sumy oblast.
In Velyka Pysarivka community of Okhtyrka region, a 62-year-old man was killed in a drone attack. A 55-year-old local resident was seriously injured when a russian drone struck him while he was riding a bicycle. His condition has been stabilised, and he has been hospitalised.
In Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community, two men aged 37 and 33 were killed—they were brothers. Two more men, aged 54 and 40, were injured.
At around 10am, russian forces struck by guided aerial bombs (KABs) near a shop in the centre of Esman. As a result of the airstrike, four civilians were injured: two women aged 73 and 51, and two men aged 61 and 69. All of them were near the shop at the time of the attack.
In Vorozhba community of Sumy region, a drone hit a civilian vehicle, injuring two men aged 64 and 65.
In Khotin community, a 69-year-old man was injured when a drone struck his home two days earlier; he was transported to hospital today.
The Regional Military Administration informed that over the past day, 18 March, a local resident was injured in Velyka Pysarivka community as a result of a russian drone strike. The 62-year-old man died from his injuries before medics arrived. In Sumy community, a 16-year-old boy was injured following an enemy drone strike; women aged 38 and 55, as well as a 60-year-old man, were also affected.
According to the National Police, on 18 March, in Uzdytsia village, Hlukhiv region, a child was injured due to the explosion of an object resembling a detonator. The explosive object was found by two children aged 13 and 10. Due to careless handling, the object exploded in the hands of the older boy, who was hospitalised by multiple injuries. The remains of the explosive device were seized and sent for expert examination.
Between the morning of 18 March and the morning of 19 March, russian forces carried out more than 50 attacks on 25 settlements across 16 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the past day, the air raid alert in the oblast lasted for 18 hours and 19 minutes.
Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:
In Berezivka community, property of an agricultural enterprise was damaged;
In Esman community, a private residential house and an outbuilding were destroyed, while another residential house and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
In Hlukhiv community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
In Sumy community, administrative buildings, a supermarket building, apartment blocks, a warehouse, vehicles and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
In Vorozhba community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and public organisations, evacuated 15 people from border communities.
Chernihiv oblast
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that in the first half of 19 March, russian forces attacked Semenivka by FPV drones. Three strikes were recorded.
The National Police reported that during the day of 18 March and overnight into 19 March, russians attacked Chernihiv oblast by unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of one of the strikes in Bakhmach town, Nizhyn region, russian forces hit transport infrastructure. A building of an emergency medical substation was also damaged.
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, informed that at around 11pm on 18 March, the enemy attacked Avdiivka village in Ponornytska community, located 60 kilometres from the border, by three Heran-type strike UAVs. The local lyceum came under attack. As a result of the strikes, the educational institution sustained significant destruction and a fire broke out at the scene. School buses were destroyed along with the lyceum building. According to the Regional Military Administration, children had been studying in person at the lyceum and only recently switched to a mixed format due to constant air raid alerts.
According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, during 18 March, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy carried out strikes using mortars (1 explosion) and FPV drones (10 explosions). Seven villages were under enemy fire.
Tetiana Kostiukova,Library Director, reported that a russian strike destroyed 24,000 books at the Novhorod-Siverskyi City Library, with damage to the book collection estimated at UAH 250,000. The losses followed a Heran-type strike UAV hitting the central part of the city on the night of 13 March. According to her, as of 1 January 2026, the library’s collection comprised 25,000 volumes. Following a fire caused by the UAV strike, almost the entire collection was destroyed.
According to the State Emergency Service of Chernihiv oblast, sappers discovered and neutralised three explosive ordnance items in three regions of the oblast — Chernihiv, Koriukivka and Nizhyn.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that as a result of yesterday’s artillery shelling in Nikopol, a 56-year-old woman was injured. She was hospitalised in serious condition. The enemy continued drone attacks on the oblast overnight, targeting Nikopol and Chervonohryhorivka community. 2 private houses and a garage were damaged. In Mezhova community, a 57-year-old woman was injured in a UAV strike. A residential house was damaged. The occupiers also struck Mykolaivka community with UAVs. The russian forces directed drones at Zelenodolsk community, where a fire broke out and infrastructure was damaged.
The russian forces again attacked the region by artillery and drones, targeting the regional centre, Marhanets, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities. In Nikopol, a 54-year-old woman was injured. A fire broke out. A lyceum, 2 multi-storey buildings, 2 private houses and an outbuilding were damaged. The occupiers struck Zelenodolsk community by UAVs. In Mezhova community, a fire station was damaged.
Kirovohrad oblast
In 3 communities of Kirovohrad oblast, residents paid tribute to soldiers killed in the war with russia: Roman Kovtun from Petrivka community, Oleksandr Sereda from Dmytrivka community and Volodymyr Festei from Pishchanyi Brid community.
Doctor Lina Fokina from Kropyvnytskyi was awarded the medal For Saving Life by the President of Ukraine on Volunteer Day. Since 2024, she has been traveling to stabilisation points to provide medical assistance to the wounded.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, stated that during the night, air defence forces shot down 3 russian UAVs over Cherkasy oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that a 44-year-old woman was killed on the spot as a result of an FPV drone attack on a road near Preobrazhenka in Polohy region.
A 78-year-old man was killed in a russian drone attack on Vilniansk in Zaporizhzhia oblast. An infrastructure facility was damaged and a fire broke out.
Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo JSC (power distribution company) reported that as a result of a russian attack, equipment belonging to the company was damaged. Emergency repair works are ongoing. An employee of the company was injured and diagnosed with blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to the back. He was taken to hospital.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 18 March, the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled 19 russian attacks in Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions. The russian troops attempted to advance near Huliaipole, Myrne, toward Zaliznychne, Dobropillia, Staroukrainka and near Stepove, Shcherbaky and Novodanylivka.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 March, russian forces carried out 864 strikes towards Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
Referring to the Air Force, today, UAV activity was detected in the airspace over eastern Mykolaiv oblast, near the border with Odesa oblast, moving toward Voznesensk.
Odesa oblast
Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA, informed that 4 people were injured as a result of a nighttime russian attack on Odesa. The injured include men aged 27 and 32, and women aged 46 and 70. 2 women and 1 man were hospitalised; their lives are not in danger. Another man received medical assistance on site.
Serhii Lysak, Head of Zaporizhzhia CMA, reported that damage was recorded in 3 districts of Odesa. In Prymorskyi district, 12 residential buildings were damaged and 2 people were hospitalised. In Kyivskyi district, a 22-storey building and a university dormitory were damaged, with around 180 windows shattered; 1 person received assistance on site. In Khadzhibeyskyi district, partial destruction of a two-storey building was recorded.
Kherson oblast
According to Kherson RMA, at approximately 6:10pm, russian forces struck Korabelnyi district of Kherson. An 83-year-old woman who was indoors sustained a concussion, blast trauma and a closed head injury.
Yesterday in Komyshany, a 54-year-old woman sustained blast trauma and a concussion as a result of russian shelling of a residential building. During the night of 14 March, in Blahovishchenske, a 59-year-old resident was injured in her home due to a russian attack. She was diagnosed with blast trauma and a concussion.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
Volyn oblast was again attacked by a Shahed UAV. A critical infrastructure facility was damaged. As a result, there is a power outage in one of the regions of the oblast. As of this morning, more than 30,000 subscribers are without power. All relevant services are working on site to eliminate the consequences.
Zakarpattia oblast
About 20 specialists in the social, medical and educational spheres from Poltava oblast arrived in the oblast on a study visit, which began with a working meeting in Uzhhorod with the participation of representatives of the RMA, UNICEF and relevant organizations. The focus is on the development of family forms of upbringing, the transformation of residential institutions and the implementation of integrated social services, such as early intervention and inclusive support.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 50 FPV drones to the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hero of Ukraine Valerii Hudzys.
Lviv oblast
Soldiers of the Air Defense shot down an enemy combat drone over Lviv. Debris fell on the territory of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv oblast. There is destruction, broken windows.
Rivne oblast
The RMA held an online meeting with representatives of the Free State of Bavaria and German business. Participants discussed the possibilities of German companies’ participation in recovery projects and investments in energy infrastructure.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil community sent 3 sets of unmanned ground robotic complexes Targan 200 to the 13th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Charter.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
177 military personnel from Khmelnytskyi community will receive money for rehabilitation. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 2.2m.
Chernivtsi oblast
The Defense Council of Chernivtsi oblast considered requests of military units and other bodies of the security and defense sector of Ukraine. Following the results of the discussion, they unanimously decided to allocate over UAH 7m from the regional budget for their needs.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, announced that Ukraine and the Sener Aerospace & Defence Spanish company have agreed on cooperation in the missile industry and air defense.
Sean Penn visited Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk oblast. The actor spoke with the soldiers and expressed his sincere gratitude for their devotion to Ukraine and courage in defending the state.
