The Defense Forces of Ukraine are holding back the advance of Russian occupiers.
As of now, the total number of combat engagements stands at 78.
Communities affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire include Halahanivka in Chernihiv region; Prohres, Seredyna-Buda, Boyaro-Lezhachi, and Yasna Poliana in Sumy region. Airstrikes also hit Hremiach in Chernihiv region, as well as Nova Sloboda and Chernatske in Sumy region.
In the North-Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, two enemy attacks took place. The invaders’ aviation carried out three strikes, dropping five guided bombs. In addition, the enemy conducted 122 artillery shellings of our troops’ positions and settlements, seven of which involved multiple-launch rocket systems.
In the South-Slobozhansky direction, fighting continues near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions three times near Synkivka and Stepova Novoselivka; two attacks were repelled, and one engagement is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, today the invading army carried out 15 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Zelena Dolyna, Kolodyazi, Myrne, Torske, Yampil, and in the direction of Yampil and Hryhorivka. Currently, four combat engagements are ongoing.
In the Siversky direction, since the start of the day, the enemy attacked twice near Pereizne and in the direction of Fedorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct active operations.
In the Toretsk direction, our defenders repelled six enemy attempts to breach our defenses near Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, Yablunivka, and Poltavka; one engagement is ongoing. Kostiantynivka came under enemy bomb strikes.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the start of the day, Russian occupiers attempted 32 times to push our troops from occupied positions near Volodymyrivka, Maiak, Nikanorivka, Novoekonomichne, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Promin, Hrodivka, Lysivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Novomykolaivka, Horykhove, and Novoukrainka. The Defense Forces are holding the line and have already repelled 31 attacks. Enemy aviation struck the area near Dobropillia.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped eight enemy assaults near Hrushivka, Zelenyi Hai, Temyrivka, Voskresenka, Zelene Pole, and toward Komyshuvakha; four engagements are ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy did not conduct assault operations but carried out an airstrike on Bilohirya.
In the Orikhiv direction, no enemy offensive actions have been recorded.
In the Prydniprovski direction, the enemy carried out an airstrike on Odradokamianka and made four unsuccessful attempts to approach Ukrainian positions.
The Coordination Headquarters stated that the bodies of 1,000 deceased Ukrainians were returned to Ukraine, including defenders from Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Kursk sectors. Among them are five Ukrainian soldiers who died in captivity. They were on the list of “critically wounded and seriously ill” prisoners to be exchanged according to the agreements reached in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations.
A Ukrainian sniper set a new world record. The Ukrainian soldier made an incredible shot, eliminating two Muscovite occupiers from a distance of 4,000m. The shot was fired from a 14.5mm calibre Aligator sniper rifle. The fire was corrected using AI tools in conjunction with a UAV, which ensured accurate targeting at a record distance. The incident took place towards Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad, in the area of responsibility of the Donetsk Operational-Tactical Group.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
According to the General Staff, the russian army attacked three times at 16:00 in the areas of Synkivka and Stepova Novoselivka, two battles are ongoing. One battle is also continuing in Vovchansk.
Over the past day, 186 combat clashes were recorded.
Towards South Slobozhanske, the enemy stormed the positions of our units ten times in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Hlyboke, Kamianka, and Ambarne.
Towards Kupiansk, there were ten attacks by the occupiers during the day. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults in the areas of Golubivka, Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Moskovka, and Zahryzove.
No russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups have been recorded in Kupiansk, but Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, calls the situation in the city the most difficult of all fronts in the oblast.
Attacks
According to Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi, the people injured during the russian drone strike on a house in the village of Peremoha in Lozova region on the morning of 19 August were a family who had evacuated to Kharkiv oblast from Donetsk oblast. He said that the mother suffered the most serious injuries and underwent surgery. Everything the family owned was burned down and two dogs killed. A dozen buildings were damaged in the village, including a school, a clinic, and the mayor’s office.
Kharkiv police reported that in Kupiansk region, an FPV drone hit an emergency medical service vehicle.
As a result of the attack, a 57-year-old and a 43-year-old man were injured and taken to hospital by police. As a result of the attack, two men, aged 57 and 43, were injured and taken to hospital by the police.
Over the past day, 16 settlements were been hit by enemy strikes. Six people, including two children, were injured as a result of the shelling.
In Ruska Lozova, Derhachi community, a 43-year-old, 59-year-old and 70-year-old women were injured; in the village of Peremoha, Lozova community, a 35-year-old woman, an 8-year-old boy and a 2.5-year-old girl were injured.
A 19-year-old man was injured as a result of the explosion of an unknown object found in the village of Volokhivka, Vovchansk community.
A 46-year-old woman who was injured as a result of shelling in the village of Vilshany, Solonytske community, on 16 August also sought medical assistance.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast:

▪️4 FPV drones.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️ 6 private houses were damaged in Kharkiv region (Ruska Lozova village), a private house and a farm building (Nova Merefa village);
▪️ in Kupiansk region, 2 private houses (Mostove) and a farm building (Lozove) were damaged;
▪️ in Chuhuiv region, a café and two cars were damaged (Chuhuiv town).
▪️ in Bohodukhiv region, a hangar, three cars (Zolochiv village) and a private house (Karasivka village) were damaged.
▪️ in Lozova region, a private house (Peremoha village) was damaged.
The day before, the russians targeted a residential high-rise building in Industrialnyi district with drones. The building had 119 apartments, in which 300 people lived. At the time of the shelling, about half of them were at home. As a result of the enemy shelling, seven people were killed, including two children. Another 24 people were injured. Two people were rescued by State Emergency Service workers. Among those who were considered missing yesterday, two people got in touch. Two more were found dead under the rubble. Seven families need to be relocated after the attack and have been provided with accommodation in a hostel. The building suffered damage and fires on the first, third and fifth floors, covering a total area of 900 sq m. Immediately after the strikes, 186 rescuers and 52 units of fire and rescue and special equipment from the Kharkiv, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Luhansk, and Zakarpattia garrisons of the State Emergency Service worked at the site. Pyrotechnic and cynological teams and psychologists from the State Emergency Service were also involved. Currently, a significant part of the interior of the building has been cleared of debris, and hundreds of cubic metres of construction waste and metal structures have been removed.

Donetsk oblast
Frontline
Maksym Bilousov, head of communications for the 60th Mechanised Brigade, reported that towards Lyman, russian troops are preparing mechanised assaults with armoured vehicles. In this direction, the Defence Forces destroyed several hidden russian tanks near the line of contact, which may indicate preparations for an offensive.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, towards Pokrovsk, the russian army attacked 67 times in the past 24 hours, which is the largest number of assaults in this direction since 22 July. Fighting was recorded, in particular, near Dorozhny, Fedorivka, Nykanorivka, Maiak, Novoekonomichne, Promin, Zvirove, Udachne, Novoukrainka, Volodymyrivka, Lysivka and in the direction of the village of Balahan.
Russian troops also continue to launch massive attacks on the Lyman and Novopavlivka sections of the front, where there were more than 20 assaults in 24 hours.
Attacks
Serhii Horbunov, Head of Kostiantynivka Military Administration, informed that russian troops launched ten strikes on Kostiantynivka during the day. One person may be trapped under the rubble. An educational institution and an administrative building were destroyed, and 12 high-rise buildings were damaged.
The Regional State Emergency Service stated that in the morning, the russian army struck Dobropillia. Two people were injured in the shelling, and one of the wounded died on the way to the hospital. A nine-storey building caught fire as a result of the shelling, but rescuers were forced to stop extinguishing the fire due to repeated shelling of the city.

After midnight, Druzhkivka came under fire, where an enemy FPV drone damaged an apartment building.
On 18 August, the police recorded 2,276 enemy strikes along the front line and in residential areas.
10 settlements were under fire: Bilozerske, Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Sloviansk, Drobysheve, Novodonetsk, Krasnyi Kut, Raiske and Stepanivka.
A total of 104 civilian objects were destroyed, including 79 residential buildings.
Kostiantynivka withstood nine strikes, including six bombings. The russians killed three civilians and wounded four more. Ten apartment buildings and 23 private houses, an educational institution, a restaurant, and an administrative building were damaged.
One person was killed in Novodonetsk, which was hit by a Geran-2 UAV. An apartment building and seven private houses were destroyed.
The occupiers dropped two KAB-250 bombs on Dobropillia, killing one person and injuring three. Two apartment buildings, a clinic, and a shop were damaged.
Russia attacked Sloviansk with two missiles from an Iskander-M mobile missile system and three Geran-2 UAVs. One civilian was wounded, and two businesses and a petrol station were damaged.
In Raiske, Druzhkivka community, 21 private houses were damaged by three KAB-250 bombs. Another guided bomb hit the neighbouring Krasnyi Kut, damaging five private homes.

Luhansk oblast
SBU reported that at night their drones destroyed two ammunition depots in Bilokurakyne in the temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast. Bilokurakyne is located ‘on an important railway branch,’ and the destroyed depot supplied shells towards Pokrovsk.
The RMA stated that the russians fired 23 times from various types of artillery installations at the surrounding villages and Ukrainian military fortifications on our section of the front. In particular, they used a multiple launch rocket system. Twenty unmanned aerial vehicles and FPV drones attempted to carry out combat missions. Towards Siversk and Lyman, the enemy attacked 30 times over the past day. In Luhansk oblast, they attacked near Hrekivka and Dibrova.
In the so-called ‘lpr’, the invaders were again unprepared to deal with the elements. This time, a fire broke out in a forestry area in Stanychno-Luhansk and Shyroke communities. Initially, the flames engulfed 20 hectares of forest litter. However, due to the wind and the lack of sufficient number of rescuers and equipment, it began to spread to nearby settlements. As of yesterday evening, dozens of households had burned down. Several villages and settlements were left without electricity. There is also no mobile communication or internet there.
For several years, the russians promised their supporters in Luhansk oblast to solve problems that did not exist while the territory was under the control of the Ukrainian government. However, with the occupation, issues began to arise regarding interruptions in water supply, expensive gasification, fuel prices and even its availability. Currently, petrol in the so-called “lpr” is distributed exclusively by vouchers to those who have them. The country, which considers itself an oil magnate, has significantly limited the supply of this product. Petrol is not available for sale in Siverskodonetsk, Shchastia, Novoaidar and other settlements.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko announced that the capital’s community had sent a new batch of essential aid to soldiers of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – another 6,000 drones of various types. Some of them will be received by the 3rd Assault Brigade, which is part of the corps. In total, in 2025, Kyiv City Council has already allocated UAH 6bn to support the defenders. Kyiv has sent more than 40,000 UAVs to the front lines for soldiers from various brigades.
Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced that five pickups were purchased at the expense of a subsidy from the regional budget. The equipment was transferred to the 429th separate regiment of unmanned systems “ACHILLES”.
The Regional State Administration announced that a four-day basic military training course for civilians will be held in Kyiv. The course aims to teach citizens the basics of military affairs and promote a responsible attitude towards national security issues. Participants will undergo training closely resembling combat conditions. The event is being organised by the 46th Separate Podil Airborne Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Bucha City Council announced a free course called “Self-Help Plus”. It is organised on the basis of the Centre for Resilience. The programme was created by the WHO and helps people find inner resources in difficult moments. Course participants will be taught simple and effective stress management techniques and told how to restore balance and feel more confident in their daily lives.
Zhytomyr oblast
On 19 August, a meeting was held in Radomyshl with the relatives of servicemen who are missing in action or in captivity. About 50 relatives of soldiers attended the meeting. During the meeting, families were told about the procedures for searching for servicemen, filling out questionnaires on the Coordination Headquarters website, difficulties with the exchange of prisoners of war with the russian federation, and changing the status from missing in action to prisoner of war.
Sumy oblast
The General Staff reported that in North Slobozhanske and Kursk sectors, seven engagements took place over the past day. Enemy forces carried out 15 air strikes, dropped 18 guided bombs, and conducted 198 artillery attacks, including eight by multiple launch rocket systems.
Late in the evening of 18 August, an enemy UAV struck a residential house in Pishchanske district of Sumy community. The house caught fire as a result of the strike. Two people were injured — a woman and her 16-year-old grandson, who was hospitalised.

At around 1am, on 19 August, the russian army shelled Seredyna-Buda with tanks. At about 12pm, russian troops also attacked the town with FPV-drones. According to the Town Council, a lyceum and a residential house were damaged in the tank shelling, while a non-residential building was damaged in the FPV-drone strikes.
The RMA informed that from the morning of 18 August to the morning of 19 August, russian forces carried out more than 60 attacks on 31 settlements in 16 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (up to 10 strikes), and also carried out attacks by FPV-drones, UAVs, dropped VOG grenades from UAVs, and a missile strike.
The consequences of russian attacks as of the morning of 19 August:
- In Mykolaivka community: a private residential house was damaged;
- In Bilopillia community: a non-residential building was damaged;
- In Vorozhba community: a non-residential building was damaged;
- In Sumy community: civilian infrastructure facilities, an apartment block, and private residential houses were damaged;
- In Kyrykivka community: a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Vilshana community: a private household and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- In Shostka community: two UAV strikes during the night of 18 August damaged 2 private houses, one apartment building, and a farm building.
Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and non-governmental organisations, evacuated 9 people from border communities.
According to the RMA, in Sumy oblast, 100,198 people are registered in the Unified Information Database of Internally Displaced Persons. In 2025, 209 IDPs completed professional training, 70 received vouchers to support their competitiveness in the labour market, and 29 received microgrants to start or develop their own businesses.
The Restoration Agency announced that in Trostianets, reconstruction continues on an apartment block at 9 Neskuchanska Street, which was destroyed by artillery and tanks during russia’s full-scale invasion. As a result, 30 families were left without housing. Last year, the main construction works were completed. The rebuilding of apartment buildings in Trostianets is financed from the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of russia’s Armed Aggression.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the RMA, said that on the morning of 19 August, civilian and critical infrastructure facilities in Chernihiv oblast were attacked by drones. A 45-year-old local man was killed in the strikes on Nizhyn.
Chernihivoblenerho JSC reported that in Nizhyn area, more than 30,000 consumers were left without electricity following the russian drone attack. Energy workers have already restored power to social infrastructure facilities and developed a scheme to reconnect household consumers.
Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of Koriukivka RMA, informed that for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion, the russian army attacked three settlements in Koriukivka region by FPV-drones. In one of them, an infrastructure facility was damaged. Previously, these settlements had only been shelled by other types of weapons.
According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, during 18 August, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. In total, about 39 strikes were recorded. The enemy carried out shelling by tube artillery (5 explosions), launched guided aerial bombs (3 explosions), struck by FPV-drones (4 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (27 explosions). Eight settlements came under enemy fire.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Air defence forces were active in the oblast and destroyed 7 enemy UAVs.
From evening until morning, the occupiers continued to attack Nikopol region by artillery and drones. They targeted the regional centre, Pokrov and Marhanets communities. As a result of the morning artillery shelling in Nikopol, 1 man was injured. A fire broke out, a greenhouse and an outbuilding were destroyed, another outbuilding, a multi-apartment building, a private house and a car damaged. The russian forces struck Synelnykove region, attacking Vasylkivka community by drones. An educational institution was damaged.
During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region more than 10 times by artillery and drones, targeting the regional centre, Pokrov, Myrove and Marhanets communities. An agricultural enterprise, 3 private houses, an outbuilding, infrastructure facilities, gas pipelines and a power line were damaged. According to updated information, as a result of the morning shelling in Nikopol, a 48-year-old man was injured and hospitalised. An outbuilding was destroyed by fire.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, stated that another night in Kirovohrad oblast was marked by an air raid alert. Air defence forces engaged enemy Shahed drones. There were no consequences reported in the oblast.
In Kropyvnytskyi, people paid tribute to servicemen Oleksandr Smielov, Hryhorii Ursol and Oleksandr Karpov.
Oleksandr Smielov died of heart failure on 12 August at the age of 53.
Hryhorii Ursol was killed on 13 August 2025 near Tiotkino settlement in kursk region, russia.
Oleksandr Karpov died of a heart condition on 9 August, related to a combat injury he had sustained at the front. He was 39 years old.
Poltava oblast
At night, russia launched a massive attack on Poltava oblast. Hits and falling debris were recorded in Kremenchuk and Lubny regions. As a result of the shelling, administrative buildings of energy sector enterprises were damaged. In Lubny region, 1,471 households and 119 businesses were left without electricity. There were no injuries reported. Emergency workers are addressing the aftermath of the strikes.
Volodymyr Kohut, Head of the Regional Military Administration, stated that in Kremenchuk community, residential houses were damaged. Kremenchuk Gymnasium №8 suffered damage for the 2nd time due to russian armed aggression. Classrooms, the assembly hall, corridors and several doors were damaged by the blast wave.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the Regional Military Administration, informed that during the night, 7 russian UAVs were destroyed in Cherkasy oblast. There were no casualties reported.
For over a year, Maksym Nemyrovskyi from Uman community was considered missing. It was confirmed that he was killed on 27 July 2024 during combat in Luhansk oblast.
In Cherkasy, a memorial ceremony was held for soldier Oleksandr Tonkonoh, who was killed in action on 26 July 2025 as a result of artillery shelling and rifle battle near Kharkiv oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that as of today, the number of people injured as a result of the russian attack on Zaporizhzhia on 18 August has increased to 36. A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy have been hospitalised. Doctors assess their condition as moderate.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 2 russian attacks near Kamianske and Novoandriivka were repelled by the Defence Forces in Orikhiv region. In Huliaipole region, russian troops did not conduct assault operations.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 August, the russian military carried out 441 strikes on 13 cities and villages of Zaporizhzhia oblast. These included 2 missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia and 4 air strikes on Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka and Malynivka.
Mykolaiv oblast
Based on the information provided by the RMA, on the night of 19 August, air defence systems were activate in Mykolaiv oblast.
On 18 August at 11:15am, the russian military attacked Kutsurub community by an FPV drone. As a result, a private house was damaged in Dmytrivka village. There were no casualties reported.
Odesa oblast
The Air Force reported that during the day, a reconnaissance UAV was detected over the Black Sea near Odesa oblast and air defence assets were engaged to neutralise it.
According to the Operational Command South, at night on 19 August, russia attacked Odesa oblast by a ballistic missile, likely an Iskander-M, launched from temporarily occupied Crimea.
Kherson oblast
Referring to the City Military Administration, in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, a man was hit by a russian drone strike in the morning. He sustained a mine-blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his arm and leg.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that at around 10am, russian forces shelled Chornobaivka in Kherson oblast by artillery. An 11-year-old boy, who was walking down the street, was injured. He suffered a concussion, a shrapnel wound to his shoulder, an explosive injury and a closed traumatic brain injury.

On 18 August, the russian military shelled 35 settlements in Kherson oblast. 6 people were injured. 2 high-rise buildings, 22 private houses, a bus and several cars were damaged.
A group of children aged 11 to 17 has been returned from the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson oblast. They are currently undergoing rehabilitation, receiving psychological support and restoring their documents.

A charity concert by the Municipal Choir BOIAN was held in the village of Hai-Ditkovetski, Brody community. Thanks to the parishioners of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius and their rector, Father Ihor Tesliuk, over UAH 13,000 were raised for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rivne oblast
The RMA reported that as part of the Side by Side. United Communities national project in Rivne oblast, over 400 children have already been cured.
Ternopil oblast
A memorial plaque to defender Ivan Khomiv was unveiled in Ternopil. The memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the building near the entrance to the cycling section, where Ivan trained and won. He was a border guard inspector, an international master of sports in cycling and a soldier.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
48 families of defenders of the Security and Defense Forces who became disabled while performing their duties received housing certificates. 4 certificates were awarded posthumously to their relatives.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA reported that the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously) was awarded to soldier Ihor Kmit.
