The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the advance of russian occupiers. Terrorists continue to kill Ukrainians and destroy Ukrainian cities and villages.
On 18 May, there were 70 combat clashes on the frontline.
The communities of Zarichchia, Kliusy in Chernihiv oblast; Bila Bereza, Popivka, Stepok in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Kharkiv, the russian army attacked once near Vovchansk, and also carried out an airstrike near Kamianka settlement.
Towards Kupiansk, russian occupiers carried out two attacks towards Nova Kruhliakivka.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out eight attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Tverdokhlibove, Kopanky, Ridkodub, Hrekivka, Torske and in the vicinity of Karpivka. One combat clash is currently ongoing.
Towards Siversk, near Verkhnokamianske and Bilohorivka, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops four times, one battle is ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy is trying to advance in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora and Stupochky. All five attacks were repelled by the Defense Force units.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked in the vicinity of Petrivka, Ozarianivka, Diliivka and Druzhba. One attack is ongoing, Ukrainian defenders repelled three assault actions of the invaders.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 25 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinities of Malynivka, Myrolubivka, Yelizavetivka, Lysivka, Dachenske, Zvirove, Novoserhiivka, Udachne, Troitske, Oleksiivka, Andriivka and towards Zori, Shevchenko Pershe, Popovyi Yar. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 22 attacks, three more clashes are ongoing. Airstrikes were carried out on Popovyi Yar and Pokrovsk.
Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders stopped seven assault actions of enemy troops; six more clashes are currently ongoing. The enemy tried to advance in the vicinity of Kostiantynopil, Bahatyr, Shevchenko, Vilne Pole, and Rivnopol. An airstrike was carried out on Novodarivka.
Towards Huliaipole, enemy aircraft struck Huliaipole with unguided air missiles, the enemy did not conduct any assault actions.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack in the vicinity of Lukianivske. Novoandriivka was under airstrike.
Towards Kherson, the terrorist country launched unguided air missiles at Odradokamianka, in addition, enemy units tried to advance once, yet the attack was repelled.
Towards Kursk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five enemy attacks, another clash is ongoing. The invaders’ aviation launched 10 strikes, dropping 22 GABs. In addition, the enemy carried out 116 artillery attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
The Air Force reports that on the night of May 18, russia launched 273 strike UAVs. 88 were shot down, another 128 were recognized as “lost in location”.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, informs that the Ministry of Digital Affairs plans to launch a beta version of the AI-Agent on the Diya portal in June. It will work as a chat bot based on a large language model, answering citizens’ questions in a live dialogue format.

Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
There were 167 combat clashes. The enemy attacked three times towards Kharkiv near Vovchansk and towards Stroivka.
Towards Kupiansk, there was one attack. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault action near Zahryzove.
The Khortitsa military unit reported that russians tried to cross the state bordertowards Stroivka in Kupiansk region. The defense forces stopped the invaders
Shooting
The regional prosecutor’s office reported that at about 09:30, russian aircraft hit the road near a house in Kupiansk. A 55-year-old man was injured by an explosion, two women aged 75 and 55 suffered acute shock. According to preliminary data, the russian federation used FAB-500 with UMPK.
The State Emergency Service reported that in the morning, rescuers extinguished a fire that had been going on since night in the village of Dvorichnyi Kut, Kharkiv oblast. The fire engulfed an outbuilding and spread to an area of about 300 square meters.
In Kharkiv oblast, 7 settlements were hit by enemy strikes.
The enemy used 4 GABs, 2 Shahed UAVs and 10 Geran-2 UAVs.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- in Kupiansk region, 3 private households, a bakery, an apartment building and structural elements of an out-of-service farm building were damaged;
- in Izium region, a power line was damaged;
- in Chuhuiv region, the infrastructure of a farm and a gas distribution node were damaged.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
Viktor Trehubov, Spokesman for the Khortitsa Special Operations Command reports that the greatest intensity from the russian army remains towards Pokrovsk. russian troops are also active towards Novopavlivka and Lyman.
The Khortitsa Special Operations Command reports that in Chasiv Yar, Ukrainian troops destroyed an armored vehicle, three ATVs and at least two dozen occupiers.
Also near Hrodivka, an attack was repelled and three cars and seventeen motorcycles were destroyed, and russian troops left seven more motorcycles. Near Novotoretske, four motorcycles were also destroyed when the russian assault was repelled.
According to the General Staff, the russian military increased the number of assaults towards Siversk and Kramatorsk to ten and eight, respectively. The day before, there were four and two assaults, respectively.
Towards Siversk, russian troops attacked in the vicinity of Bilohorivka and Verkhnokamianske.
In the Kramatorsk, Rrussian fighters advanced near Chasiv Yar, Kurdiumivka and in the vicinity of Predtechyne, Stupochky and Bila Hora.
Another 54 assaults were stopped by Ukrainian defenders towards Pokrovsk, 24 towards Lyman and 23 towards Novopavlivka.
Shelling
The RMA reports that in the morning, russian troops struck Kostiantynivka. At 7:20 a.m., a strike UAV shelled the city. There were no casualties, the facade of a private house was damaged.
The police recorded 2,554 enemy strikes. russian troops attacked 14 settlements. One person was killed, eight more injured. 62 civilian objects were destroyed, including 44 residential buildings.
In Yablunivka, the occupiers hit with a GAB-250 air bomb and a drone – one person was killed, 18 private houses and a shop destroyed.
On the highway near the village of Andriivka, five civilians were injured, including a child, and a car was damaged as a result of an FPV drone attack.
Two people were injured in Pokrovsk, which is under constant russian attack. A private house was damaged.
The russian army shelled Myrnohrad with artillery – one person was injured, and a house destroyed.
russian invaders hit Kostiantynivka with an air bomb, artillery and drones, damaging an apartment building, 6 private houses, and an administrative building.
The enemy dropped three GAB-250 air bombs on Bilytske – a non-residential building was destroyed.
Luhansk oblast
Trying to advance on this section of the front, the invaders had artillery support, opening fire eight times. According to the RMA, russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Hrekivka and Novoiehorivka towards Lyman, and near Bilohorivka towards Siversk. 208 russian drones carried out combat missions.
For the so-called “lpr”, they will look for coaches of youth sports schools in remote regions of the russian federation, where sports are almost undeveloped. They will be able to use the “Zemsky trainer” program: move to Luhansk oblast, receive incentive payments and try to teach local children what they know how to do. This russian program will be implemented in the occupied territories of Ukraine after the pilot regime is completed.
The occupiers have not delivered an order to doctors in Siverskodonetsk to write prescriptions for almost all medicines. At the same time, the free sale of medicines in city pharmacies has already been suspended since the beginning of May. Local residents found themselves in a situation where they could neither buy pills nor get a prescription.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The RMA reported that at night, the enemy attacked Kyiv oblast with more than fifteen hundred UAVs. An entire family was injured in an enemy attack in Obukhiv district. A 27-year-old woman died of her injuries, and her 4-year-old son was taken to the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital with shrapnel wounds to his face. A man of 61 years old and a woman of 59 years old were also injured.
In Obukhiv district, a residential building was destroyed, windows in seven multi-storey residential buildings were smashed. Buildings of a utility company, educational institutions, Ukrposhta, a tyre service, three private houses and cars were damaged.
In Fastiv district, a fire broke out on the territory of a feed mill, destroying warehouses and an outbuilding, and damaging two private houses.
On the night of 18 May, an air alert in Kyiv lasted for 8 hours and 54 minutes due to the threat of russian UAVs. As a result of an enemy attack on civilian infrastructure, the windows of a residential building in Solomianskyi district were damaged and the roof of a non-residential building in Holosiivskyi district was damaged.
The first conference “Return. The Way to Mental Health” conference was held in Kyiv as part of the Return project. The purpose of the event was to create an open platform for discussing challenges and solutions in the field of psychological rehabilitation of Ukrainians who have experienced war, loss, displacement or other traumatic events.
Zhytomyr oblast
On 17 May, in Romaniv, local residents gathered in the centre of the village with Ukrainian flags in their hands to welcome Ukrainian defender Vladyslav Stoliarov, who returned from three years of russian captivity. Vladyslav Stoliarov was captive in russia for 3 years and 23 days.
Sumy oblast
Rescuers evacuated 10 children from the border area of Sumy oblast. Their mothers had been in a bus that was struck by russian forces on 17 May. According to preliminary reports, the mother of eight children was injured in the attack, while the mother of two others was killed.
The Regional Military Administration informed that from the morning of 17 May to the morning of 18 May, russian forces carried out 100 attacks on 36 settlements across 13 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy, Konotop, and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (nearly 10 strikes) and UAV-dropped fragmentation munitions (nearly 30 strikes).
Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organisations from border communities, evacuated 10 people.
According to the State Emergency Service of Sumy oblast, on 17 May, in Shostka region, a man was injured due to the detonation of an explosive device he had found. He was taken to the hospital.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that throughout 17 May, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk.They used FPV-drones (9 explosions), mortars (24 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (4 explosions).
Yuliia Posternak, Head of Kulykivka community, informed that during the night of 16 May, a russian ‘Geran-2’ drone exploded in the centre of Kladkivka village, Kulykivka community, in Chernihiv region, hitting a local entrepreneur’s sawmill. As a result of the explosion, farm buildings were damaged, roofs, windows, doors, equipment, and tools were torn apart.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that last night, on 17 May, the occupiers attacked Marhanets community of Nikopol region with artillery twice more. They also attacked Mezhivka community in Synelnykove region. An outbuilding and private houses were damaged. At night, Zelenodolsk community of Kryvyi Rih region was attacked by a drone. Solar panels were damaged.
Nikopol region, Kryvyi Rih and Synelnykove region came under hostile attack again. The occupiers shelled Nikopol region with artillery and kamikaze drones. They targeted the region centre, Marhanets, Myrove, Pokrovsk and Chervonohryhorivka communities.
Nine private houses, 4 outbuildings, 3 greenhouses and power lines were damaged. The enemy also attacked Malomykhailivka community of Synelnykove region with anti-aircraft guns. Hrushevka community of Kryvyi Rih region was hit by a drone. There was a fire, a garage was on fire. The fire was extinguished by rescuers.
Kirovohrad oblast
An action in support of prisoners and missing persons was held in Kropyvnytskyi. The participants formed a convoy of 35 cars. These are family members and friends of the military from Kirovohrad oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night in Cherkasy oblast, defenders shot down 6 russian UAVs.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
On 17 May, the occupiers launched 343 attacks on 11 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces launched 6 airstrikes on Kamianske, Huliaipole, and Mala Tokmachka. 166 UAVs of various types attacked Lobkove, Kamianske, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Seven MLRS strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Lobkove, Mala Tokmachka, and Novodarivka. Additionally, 164 artillery shelling targeted Lobkove, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. There were four reports of damage to apartments, vehicles, and an infrastructure facility. Three women were injured as a result of enemy strikes on Orikhiv.
On 18 May, the russian army attacked Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions once towards Orikhiv. On the previous day, 17 May, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled seven russian assaults towards Orikhiv.
The first military-sports pentathlon championship was held in Zaporizhzhia in memory of fallen police officers. Ten teams and over 30 participants took part in the competition. This is the first time such a sporting event has been held in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Organizers promise to make it a regular tradition going forward.
Mykolaiv oblast
On 17 May, at 16:30, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community with an FPV drone. At 21:30, the enemy also struck using an attack UAV (type being identified) on Halytsynove community. As a result of the attack, power supply networks were damaged, leaving two settlements — the villages of Lymany and Lupareve — without electricity. Restoration work is ongoing. There were no casualties.
More than 250 people in Mykolaiv took part in a weekly event to raise awareness about Ukrainian servicemen who are in captivity or considered missing.
Odesa oblast
On 16 May, 3 enemy ships were stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, including 1 carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 8 missiles.
1 vessel passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in russia’s interests, while 4 more ships entered the Sea of Azov.
Kherson oblast
In Vesele, russian forces killed a resident. The occupiers dropped explosives from a drone on a 76-year-old man. The victim died on the spot from his injuries.
A 68-year-old resident of Beryslav sought medical help after being injured in a russian attack on 8 May. The occupiers struck his house three times with FPV drones. The man sustained a blast injury and a concussion.

Yesterday, the enemy attacked Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Molodizhne, Ivanivka, Mykilske, Tokarivka, Novotiahynka, Bilozerka, Romashkove, Tomyna Balka, Kizomys, Stanislav, Oleksandrivka, Sofiivka, Shyroka Balka, Beryslav, Rakivka, Tomaryne, Osokorivka, Burhunka, Mykolaivka, Odradokamianka, Novoraisk, Novooleksandrivka, Havrylivka, Vesele, Kozatske, and the city of Kherson using drones, artillery shelling, and airstrikes. As a result of the attacks, a multi-story building, three private homes, a service station, a garage, a cell tower, a gas pipeline, and a private vehicle were damaged. 8 people were injured due to russian aggression.
The Defense Forces of southern Ukraine repelled two attempts by the occupiers to dislodge units from their positions in the Prydniprovskyi sector. Over the past day, enemy losses amounted to 76 soldiers, 3 artillery systems, 2 mortars, 9 vehicles, 2 reconnaissance UAVs of the “Supercam” and “Zala” types, 7 motorcycles, 1 quad bike, 3 boats, 4 generators, 3 UAV control antennas, and 1 communications antenna. 54 enemy personnel shelters, two ammunition storage sites, and three field fuel depots were destroyed.

Volyn oblast
Rescuers of the 1st State Fire and Rescue Unit of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Volyn received assistance in the form of a subvention allocated by Horodyshchensk community. Thanks to these funds, they purchased fire and rescue and technical equipment.
Zakarpattia oblast
This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 50 bags with grocery sets and 80 loaves of bread. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (1,300 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Spletinnia Kosice, Valentyn Stefano and other benefactors.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Lviv oblast
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, awarded the defender from Truskavets with the III degree Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky (posthumously). The hero was killed in June 2024 as a result of a guided munition explosion in the village of Kurdiumivka, Donetsk oblast.
The RMA reported that residents of Shehynivka community raised over UAH 30,000 for the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the Spiritual and Artistic Academy “Love is Nailed to the Cross!”.
Rivne oblast
Participants of the veterans’ memory bike ride were met in Rivne oblast. The annual veterans’ bike ride Honoring the Memory of the Defenders of Ukraine passed through Radyvyliv. Tomorrow its participants will arrive in Rivne. The bike ride route covers over 900 km: from Uzhhorod to the capital. The main team includes veterans Ivan Balashov and Anatolii Veresenko, who will ride the entire route. A team of bicycle police from Rivne oblast also joined the bike ride.
Ternopil oblast
A forum Organizational and Legal Principles for Implementing the Veteran Assistant Institute was held in Ternopil. They discussed implementation of state veteran policy in the oblast, integration and support of veterans, rehabilitation of defenders, creation of an effective system of specialists supporting veterans at the community level, development of the veteran environment, veteran business, employment of veterans, and improvement of the quality of life of veterans and their families.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In Khmelnytskyi, 20 families of prisoners of war or missing persons received financial assistance. The total amount of assistance is UAH 1m.
Chernivtsi oblast
A memorial plaque in honor of Oleksandr Balan, Sergeant of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelveis, call sign Balu, was unveiled in Chernivtsi. He was killed on 15 October 2022, performing a combat mission.
