The Defense Forces of Ukraine are holding back the advance of Russian occupiers. The terrorists continue to kill Ukrainians and destroy Ukrainian cities and villages with missile, air, and artillery strikes.
As of now, the total number of combat engagements stands at 80.
The Defense Forces are taking all necessary measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory.
Enemy artillery and mortar fire affected the communities of Liskivshchyna in Chernihiv Oblast; Velyka Pysarivka, Starykove, Shalyhyne, Oleksandrivka, Prohres, Zarichne, Bachivsk, and Velykyi Prykil in Sumy Oblast.
Frontline Situation
- Kharkiv sector: The enemy attacked Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk but was repelled. The invaders also launched unguided aerial rockets at Veterinarne and Okhrimivka.
- Kupiansk sector: Russian forces carried out four attacks near Petropavlivka, Hlushkivka, Zahryzove, and in the direction of Novoosynove. Two battles are still ongoing.
- Lyman sector: The occupation forces launched six attacks today against Ukrainian positions near Hrekivka, Zarichne, and Yampilivka. Two battles are still ongoing.
- Kramatorsk sector: The enemy is attempting to advance in the Chasiv Yar and Vasiukivka areas. Out of three attacks, one was repelled, and the fighting continues.
- Toretsk sector: Russian forces are trying to breach Ukrainian defenses near Toretsk. Out of five attacks, three have been repelled, while two battles are still ongoing.
- Pokrovsk sector: Since the start of the day, Russian invaders launched 33 assaults to push Ukrainian troops out of their positions near Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Novoukrainka, Pishchane, Kotlyne, Udachne, Uspenivka, Nadiivka, Yasynove, Ulakly, Andriivka, and Dachne. Ukrainian forces repelled 23 attacks, while 10 battles are ongoing. Russian aviation struck Pokrovsk and Oleksiivka with guided bombs (KABs).
- Novopavlivka sector: Ukrainian defenders repelled eight enemy assaults, while six combat engagements are still ongoing. The enemy is trying to advance near Novosilka, Rivnopil, Novyi Komar, and in the direction of Konstantynopol and Burlatske.
- Orikhiv sector: Ukrainian troops repelled one attack today, while one battle is still ongoing. The enemy has been active near Shcherbaky and Nesteryanka.
- Kursk region operation: Ukrainian forces repelled six enemy attacks today, while two battles are still ongoing. Enemy aircraft conducted 22 strikes, dropping 25 guided bombs (KABs).
No significant changes have been recorded in other sectors.
Casualties and Russian War Crimes
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, and 380,000 have been wounded. Tens of thousands more are missing or in captivity. Mass graves and atrocities discovered in liberated territories prove the scale of Russian terror. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported these figures.
Chernobyl Update
Three new smoldering hotspots have been detected on the Chernobyl sarcophagus. Currently, three groups of industrial climbers are partially dismantling the shelter structures and extinguishing the insulation fires on the roof. The situation is being monitored by drones equipped with thermal imaging, while air quality remains under constant surveillance.
The radiation levels at the Chornobyl industrial site remain within acceptable limits, and the situation is fully under control, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
As of 16:00, a combat engagement took place near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv sector. The enemy struck Vetrynarne and Okhrymivka with unguided aerial rockets, according to the General Staff.
In the Kupiansk sector, Russian occupiers launched four attacks near Petropavlivka, Hlushkivka, Zahryzove, and in the direction of Novoosynove. Two battles are still ongoing.
Russian forces have achieved tactical gains in the areas of Fyholivka and Dvorichna in the Kupiansk sector, according to Ruslan Mykula, co-founder of the analytical project DeepState.
The Russian army is increasingly using mechanized units during offensives in the Kharkiv region, within the operational zone of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.
Over the past day, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled two enemy attacks towards Vovchansk in the Kharkiv sector.
In the Kupiansk sector, 16 combat clashes took place near Petropavlivka, Zahryzove, Bohuslavka, and Pishchane.
Shelling
At 02:20, Russian forces attacked the Bohodukhiv district, Zolochivska community, in the village of Tsapivka. As a result of the impact of three Shahed UAVs on an industrial facility, three warehouse buildings, an administrative building, and two vehicles were damaged.
At 01:24, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv, Kholodnohirskyi district. A Shahed UAV struck the ground, damaging an outbuilding and shattering the windows of 14 private houses. Three women (aged 28, 50, and 64) suffered acute stress reactions.

The Day Before
At 06:30, the Russians attacked a village with a guided aerial bomb (KAB), damaging houses and shops.
Over the past day, the occupiers used 11 guided aerial bombs and 9 UAVs against unarmed residents of the Kharkiv region.
As a result of an enemy UAV strike in the Saltivskyi district, windows of a residential building were damaged, but there were no casualties.
Other News
The Kharkiv Regional Military Administration is implementing a pilot project called “Dental Prosthetics for Certain Categories of Individuals Who Defended Ukraine’s Independence, Sovereignty, and Territorial Integrity.”
A total of 28 medical institutions have signed contracts under the package of the National Health Service of Ukraine, making it the highest number among all regions. Additionally, 11 more institutions have joined the second direction of this project.
As part of the medical guarantees program, the project includes not only dental prosthetics but also rehabilitation, mental health support, and access to medication.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
The Russian army continues its attacks near Velyka Novosilka in the Novopavlivka sector. Over the past day, the occupiers launched 18 assaults on Ukrainian positions near Novosilka, Burlatske, Novocheruvatye, and Konstantynopol, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The heaviest fighting took place in the Pokrovsk direction, where Russian forces attempted 40 advances near Vodyane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Pishchane, Udachne, Uspenivka, Nadiyivka, Oleksiivka, Andriivka, Dachne, and Ulakliv.
Shelling
Two people were killed in Donetsk region due to Russian shelling in the past day. The occupiers killed a married couple in Bilytske, according to regional governor Filashkin.
In total, Russian forces carried out 3,154 attacks along the frontline and against residential areas. According to police reports, three settlements were hit: Bilytske, Kostiantynivka, and the village of Fedorivka. 11 civilian structures were damaged, including 8 residential buildings.

Russians Dropped a 500-Kilogram Bomb on Bilytske – Killed Two Civilians, Damaged Six Apartment Buildings, a Cultural Center, a Store, and a Power Line.
In Fedorivka, two private houses were damaged due to artillery shelling.
Additionally, information has been confirmed about ten previously damaged houses in Siversk.
Luhansk oblast
Frontline
While attempting to advance, the occupiers received artillery support of various types, according to the Regional Military Administration. They directed 141 drones toward the Armed Forces of Ukraine and settlements along the frontline. Attacks were reported near Novolubivka and Novoyehorivka.
Culture
On February 15 in Lviv, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic presented a program dedicated to modern Ukrainian music. The musicians performed two symphonies: “Symphony of Resilience” and “The Victorious Symphony”.
Occupied Luhansk Region
The leader of the so-called “LNR” launched a regional personnel program titled “Heroes of Luhansk Region.” According to this initiative, representatives of the Russian army will form the new administrative elite of the “republic.” They are expected to bring fresh ideas and take responsibility for the region’s future. However, local residents are not enthusiastic about this, having witnessed the impunity of Russian soldiers regarding numerous crimes. Additionally, despite the program, mid-level Russian officials continue to hold key positions in the occupation government instead of local collaborators.
Unpaid Wages in Occupied Luhansk
A 1.2 billion ruble debt to public sector workers in the so-called “LNR” has been officially confirmed. These funds were allocated to occupation budgetary institutions over the years but never reached employees. In cases where documentation is missing—such as when funds were “stuck” between government agencies and institutions—Russia does not even consider repayment mechanisms. Some of this money has been missing since 2014.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
A man was injured in Boryspil district of Kyiv oblast as a result of an enemy attack. The man, born in 2003, sustained an arm injury. All necessary medical care was provided on the spot.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that the russian military attacked oblast at night with a UAV. The fall of debris was recorded in four districts: in Obukhiv district, three private houses and two cars were damaged; in Vyshgorod district, a production shop caught fire; in Fastiv district, a warehouse caught fire; in Boryspil district, a private house was damaged.

The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management reported that as of the morning of 17 February, three smouldering areas were found on the shelter over the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant damaged by a russian drone attack. Work is underway to eliminate the fire. The State Emergency Service employs 91 rescuers and 18 pieces of equipment. No deterioration in the radiation situation has been recorded.
SNRIU Chairman and Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine Oleh Korikov said that as a result of the russian drone attack on ChNPP on 14 February, part of the New Safe Confinement equipment was de-energised. Lifting equipment was damaged at the facility, and ventilation systems are not working. In addition, due to damage to the structure covering the old sarcophagus of ChNPP Unit 4, the confinement’s ‘arch’ does not perform its barrier functions.

DTEK has reported that emergency power cuts are being introduced in Kyiv and oblast as a result of russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. Industrial consumers and businesses will be cut off first. Restrictions for household consumers will be applied only in certain cases.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyroblenergo reported that emergency power outages have been introduced in Zhytomyr oblast by order of NPC Ukrenergo.
The construction of a residential complex is underway in Zhytomyr, which will become home to 116 IDP families. This is a large-scale social project funded by the European Union and managed by NEFCO. The new residential complex will consist of four four-storey buildings designed to meet the needs of people with reduced mobility and modern energy-efficient solutions. The basement of one of the buildings will be equipped with a shelter that can accommodate all residents.
Sumy oblast
At night in Sumy, as a result of a russian strike UAV hitting a service station, two cars, the premises, and a fence were damaged. According to the Regional Nilitary Administration, no people were injured.
As a result of enemy FPV-drone strikes in Krasnopillia community, 6 people were injured, and in Myropillia community, 3 people were injured. Additionally, two cars were damaged in the communities’ territory. In Yunakivka community, a non-residential building was damaged.
Overall, during the night and morning of 17 February, russians carried out 18 shellings in Sumy oblast. The enemy executed 27 strikes: FPV-drones (6 explosions), UAVs (1 explosion), an air strike by GAB (1 explosion), VOG grenades dropped from UAVs (8 explosions), artillery (4 explosions), and mortars (7 explosions). Nine communities were affected: Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Bilopillia, Esman, and Shalyhyne.
On 17 February, anti-aircraft gunners shot down 8 enemy Shahed-type UAVs over Sumy oblast. Since the beginning of 2025, 431 russian drones have been destroyed.
The Regional Military Administration reported that during the past day, the russian military carried out 114 shellings in Sumy oblast. A total of 140 explosions were recorded. The enemy used artillery (18 explosions), mortars (46 explosions), FPV-drones (30 explosions), UAVs (1 explosion), conducted air strikes with GABs (9 explosions), NARs from a helicopter (18 explosions), and dropped VOG grenades from UAVs (38 explosions).
On 16 February, 11 border communities were shelled: Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Chernechchyna, Shalyhyne, Esman, Seredyna-Buda, and Znob-Novhorod. As a result of Russian shelling, private residential houses were damaged in Krasnopillia and Chernechchyna communities.
Chernihiv oblast
State Border Guard Service reported that during the night from 16 to 17 February, border guards from the 105th Detachment named after Prince Volodymyr the Great shot down two russian ‘Shaheds’ in the sky over Chernihiv oblast.
During the day on 16 February, the russian army attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk, and Horodnia. They used FPV-drones (8 explosions), artillery (3 explosions), and mortars (17 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (9 explosions). Chernihiv Border Guard detachment informed that ten villages were under enemy fire.
Due to russian shelling in Chernihiv oblast on the morning of 17 February, the State Energy Company ‘Ukrenergo’ has introduced two stages of the Emergency Shutdown Schedule.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that last week, the russian army attacked all 5 regions of the oblast. The enemy carried out 136 shellings resulting in 338 explosions. 21 settlements were under russian attacks.
Over the past week, the russian army carried out 40 shellings in Koriukivka region, using artillery, mortars, and FPV-drones. Chernihiv region was shelled by mortars of various calibers, and explosive devices were dropped from UAVs. Nizhyn region was attacked by UAVs.
In Pryluky, russian military hit a critical infrastructure facility, resulting in injuries to two people.
In Novhorod-Siverskyi region, the russians launched 8 unguided aviation rockets and shelled by mortars, grenade launchers, drones, and artillery. In the region’s territory, agricultural enterprise facilities were destroyed, and a club building and starosta office were damaged, with residential houses also suffering damage.
In the sky over Chernihiv oblast, the Defense Forces shot down about 20 enemy drones last week.
From 10 to 16 February, 18 people, including six children, left the shelled territories in Chernihiv oblast.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
In the evening and early morning, russian forces attacked Nikopol region by artillery, targeting Myrove and Marhanets communities. Marhanets suffered the most damage. As a result of the shelling, 4 civilians were injured: men aged 22, 26 and 54, and a 64-year-old woman. They received all necessary medical assistance. The attack caused a fire and damaged 8 apartment buildings, several shops, an educational institution, a café, a pharmacy, 4 private houses, businesses, administrative buildings, a garage, a car, an outbuilding and a power line.
At night, Ukrainian air defence forces were active. The military from Air Command East destroyed 2 enemy drones.
The enemy continues to terrorize Nikopol region. 6 more civilians were injured after russian forces attacked gas stations in Chervonohryhorivka community and Nikopol by kamikaze drones. Among the injured were women aged 36, 57, 60 and 71. One of them was hospitalised in moderate condition. 2 men, aged 48 and 62, were also wounded. All received necessary medical care. During the day, more than 15 attacks were carried out by artillery, kamikaze drones and dropping ammunition from drones. The strikes targeted Nikopol, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove and Marhanets communities, damaging industrial enterprises, 5 private houses, an outbuilding, gas stations, vehicles, infrastructure and power lines.
Vinnytsia oblast
A military stand-up comedy show, Unborn for War, will take place in Vinnytsia. The performance will feature Yevhen Avdieienko, a soldier of the 3rd Assault Brigade and an Honored Artist of Ukraine. The show combines dark humor, love, loneliness, military mischief and dangerous adventures, with the use of explicit language. All proceeds from the event will be directed toward supporting the 3rd Assault Brigade.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, reported that air defence forces operated over Kirovohrad oblast, and no damage was reported.
Vitalina Bevzenko, Spokesperson of the Regional Police Department, said that explosive experts neutralized an unexploded warhead from a russian drone.
Poltava oblast
According to the RMA, at night, debris from a russian drone damaged the roof of a private house and an outbuilding in Zinkiv community. There were no injuries reported.
A memorial service was held at the Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for a soldier Vitalii Poltoratskyi. He was killed on 9 February 2025, while performing a combat mission.
Ukrainian serviceman Volodymyr Riabchenko from Poltava oblast, who was previously reported missing, was confirmed killed on 6 February while performing a combat mission near Huievo village, Sudzha region, Kursk oblast, russia.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, informed that air defence forces shot down 13 attack drones over Cherkasy oblast. There were no casualties or infrastructure damage reported.
Cherkasy paid tribute to a 32-year-old soldier Viacheslav Naumov, who was killed on 5 October 2023, near Robotyne village, Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
At night, russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with 10 drones. The blast wave damaged 15 apartment buildings and six private houses. More than 1,300 consumers were left without electricity, but thanks to the swift work of energy workers, power supply was restored by 7 a.m.
Yesterday, the occupiers executed 486 strikes on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy conducted 18 airstrikes on Kamianske, Lukianivske, Lobkove, Huliaipole, and Temyrivka. 282 drones of various modifications attacked Zaporizhzhia, Bilenke, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Six MLRS attacks targeted Kamianske, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Novodarivka. Additionally, 180 artillery strikes hit Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. There were 13 reports of damage to apartments and private homes.
Today Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack towards Orikhiv, while another battle is still ongoing. The enemy was active in the areas of Shcherbaky and Nesterianka. On 16 February, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled six russsian attacks towards Orikhiv near Novoandriivka, Piatykhatky, Shcherbaky, and Mali Shcherbaky.
Mykolaiv oblast
Yesterday, 16 February, the enemy shelled Kutsurub community three times with artillery and attacked it once with an FPV drone. As a result of one of the attacks a house was damaged in the village of Parutyne. Additionally, the enemy attacked the city of Ochakiv three times with FPV drones. There were no casualties.
The head of Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliш Kim, reported that as of 1:20 p.m. on 17 February, heating was restored. The temperature in the system is being increased by 2–3 degrees at a time.
Odesa oblast
On the night of 17 February, air defense forces in southern Ukraine shot down 11 attack drones, including Shahed UAVs, over Odesa oblast. On the evening of 16 February, russia launched a missile strike on Odesa. According to the Southern Air Command, the attack involved three Kh-31P anti-radar missiles fired from two russian Su-30 fighter jets over the Black Sea. All rockets failed to reach their targets.
Kherson oblast
Yesterday, three people were injured in Kherson oblast due to enemy attacks. The cities and villages affected by shelling included Kherson, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Sadove, Bilozerka, Inzhenerne, Poniativka, Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Yantarne, Stanislav, Beryslav, Havrylivka, Tiahynka, Monastyrske, and Vesele in Kakhovka region. The attacks damaged four apartment buildings, 22 private homes, and three vehicles.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported additional injuries from previous attacks. A resident of Kherson sought medical assistance after being injured in a drone attack the previous day. The 43-year-old man sustained a blast injury and a concussion. On 15 February, a 59-year-old man suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to the torso due to a drone strike. A 67-year-old woman, injured in the attack on 14 February 14 on Kherson, was diagnosed with a blast injury and a concussion. Two more people sought medical care after last week’s attacks on Kherson. On 11 February, a 70-year-old woman sustained a blast injury and a concussion, and on 12 February, a 40-year-old man suffered a blast injury and contusion due to russian shelling. A 56-year-old woman from Beryslav, attacked by a russian drone on 10 February, was diagnosed with a blast injury, contusion, and shrapnel wounds to her leg.
The head of Kherson RMA reported that nearly 2,000 russian drones targeted Kherson oblast in the past week, with approximately 80% being intercepted.
In the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s southern defense forces eliminated 138 russian troops and destroyed three artillery systems, four mortars, two tanks, 11 armored fighting vehicles, 26 transport vehicles, 10 reconnaissance UAVs, six boats, one buggy, four motorcycles, 16 ATVs, four communication antennas, and 10 UAV control antennas. Additionally, 33 shelters/dugouts, three observation posts, and one checkpoint were destroyed.
Residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson oblast were ordered to dismantle all satellite antennas that do not comply with russian network standards by 31 March, 2025. The occupation administration is allowing only the russian satellite service “Russky Mir.” Any antennas receiving Ukrainian signals are deemed “unlicensed,” cutting off access to Ukrainian and international news sources.

Volyn oblast
There are 28 veteran support specialists working in 23 communities in Volyn. Since December 2024, these specialists have processed 866 applications from veterans, their family members, and families of fallen Defenders.

A serviceman from Uzhhorod received a deed of gift for an apartment. The name of the defender is not being disclosed for security reasons.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
With the funds raised during the 7th charity auction, oblast purchased and donated the necessary equipment for the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade. These include ground control stations for drones, batteries for quadcopters, and EcoFlow charging stations of various capacities worth over UAH 1.8m.
Lviv oblast
Lviv City Council held a meeting with representatives of the Allm.Inc Japanese information and communication technology company visited Lviv. They discussed cooperation in the medical field and joint innovative projects.
The Heritage workshop has started in Lviv, dedicated to rethinking cultural heritage protection practices in Ukraine. Over the course of 2 days, specialists from almost 20 Ukrainian communities will not only collect the most effective protection practices and exchange experiences, but also develop practical algorithms for the protection and restoration of cultural heritage in times of war.
Rivne oblast
Dormitories where IDPs live received beds, blankets, bedding and hygiene kits, towels and pillows from the United Nations Refugee Agency and UNICEF.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil City Council reported that in 2025, over 400 military personnel in the oblast received UAH 10,000 each to purchase equipment.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community donated 20 DJI MAVIC 3E quadcopters worth over UAH 2.1m to the Defense Forces.
Chernivtsi oblast
An inpatient rehabilitation department has been launched at Vyzhnytsia City Hospital. Previously, the institution provided outpatient rehabilitation services. Last year, over 900 patients received such assistance. Inpatient rehabilitation has also been launched since February 2025. This department is designed for 20 beds.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, met with Jonathan Powell, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of Great Britain. They discussed the situation on the battlefield, coordination of efforts to achieve lasting peace and the urgent needs of Ukrainian defenders.
