The aggressor is shelling border areas. In Sumy oblast, the vicinity of the following settlements were affected: Iskryskivshchyna, Budky, Volfyne, Korenok, Sopych, Prohres, Ulanove, Shalyhyne, Bachivsk, and Bunyachyne. In Chernihiv oblast, Zarichchia and Liskivshchyna were affected. Additionally, Vilna Sloboda in Sumy oblast and Karpovychi in Chernihiv oblast sustained airstrikes.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy carried out 30 attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops. One enemy assault operation was recorded.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy tried to improve its position eight times in the vicinity of Izbytske, Starytsia, Ternova, Lyman, Synelnykove, and Novovasylivka.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy conducted one assault operation in the vicinity of Kindrashivka.
Towards Lyman, the adversary attacked seven times in the vicinity of Stavky, Novoserhiivka, Druzheliubivka, Zarichne, Lyman, Dibrova, and Yampil. Two of these attacks are still ongoing.
Towards Sloviansk, the occupiers are trying to improve their position near Rai-Oleksandrivka. The attack is ongoing.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
There were 257 combat engagements in the oblast, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Towards Southern Sloboda, russian troops attacked positions of the Defense Forces 14 times in the vicinity of Vovchanski Khutory, Lyman, and Starytsia, and towards Ternove, Radkivka, and Izbytske. Towards Kupiansk, the russian army attacked four times in the vicinity of Kurylivka, Novoplatonivka, and Pishchane.
russian troops struck the Osnovianskyi district of Kharkiv. Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reports that a 33-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized.
The russian army also launched a strike on the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv. A fire broke out at the site of the hit; no information regarding casualties was received. Rescuers worked to eliminate the aftermath of the strike, according to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reports that over the past day, Kharkiv and five other settlements in the region came under enemy fire. As a result of the shelling, 39 people were injured, including nine children.
In Kharkiv, 21 women, six men, five boys aged 8, 11, 12, 13, and 16, and four girls aged 8, 8, 13, and 16 were injured. In Katerynivka, Lozova community, three women aged 19, 21, and 66 were injured.
russian troops used UAVs to attack the Shevchenkivskyi and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv. Throughout the day, the russian army deployed four KABs, six Geran-2 UAVs, two Molniya UAVs, and five FPV drones across Kharkiv oblast, according to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
In Kharkiv, three apartment buildings, six cars, three catering establishments, a kiosk, and a public transport stop were damaged. In Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Lozova, and Chuhuiv districts, residential buildings, an outbuilding, an educational institution, a warehouse, a garage, fences, and power grids were damaged.
Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reports that the transit evacuation point in Lozova received 179 people over the past day. Since the point began operating, 34,131 people have been registered there.
205 Ukrainians—servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service—returned from russian captivity. Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that among those released are nine defenders from Kharkiv oblast: two Kharkiv residents, and residents of Lozova, Zmiiv, as well as Kupiansk, Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv, and Izium districts.
Donetsk oblast
Donetsk Region Police reported that for May 14, there were 1,199 strikes by the russian army in Donetsk oblast. Ten settlements were under fire: Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Slaviansk, Bilenke, Malotaranivka, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, Maidan, and Ocheretyne. 22 civilian objects were destroyed, including eight residential buildings.

Luhansk oblast

Oleksii Kharchenko, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that over the past day, russian troops shelled Luhansk oblast with various types of weapons: they used MLRS, struck seven times with tube artillery, four times each with mortars and automatic grenade launchers, and deployed 26 drones.
Life in evacuation
According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Luhansk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, relocated to Lubny in Poltava oblast, has opened a medical rehabilitation and palliative care department. The facility employs 23 doctors and 17 members of the nursing staff, with a stationary bed capacity of 49, including surgical, resuscitation-anesthesiology, and rehabilitation profiles. Since the beginning of the year, 97 children have been treated in the inpatient department, including IDPs and residents of Luhansk oblast, and 23 surgeries have been performed; during the first four months of 2026, 1,689 children underwent outpatient examinations. New rehabilitation services have already been provided to 67 children as outpatients and six patients in the hospital.
Life under occupation
In temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast, a decision by the russian state duma will also apply regarding the cancellation of loans up to 10 million rubles for men or their wives, provided a contract is signed with the russian army after May 1, 2026, but only if there is a court decision on debt collection or open enforcement proceedings.
In two years, Luhansk branch of the russian military center “Voin” (Warrior) has prepared 3,000 young men and women for service in the russian army: they are trained to operate UAVs and undergo engineering, fire, and tactical training.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The search and rescue operation in Darnytskyi district of Kyiv has been completed. The work lasted for over 28 hours. According to the SES, the death toll from the massive missile and drone attack on May 14 has risen to 24 people, including 3 children. Another 48 people were injured. According to Kyiv City State Administration, as of the morning of May 15, 24 of the injured remain in the capital’s hospitals.


According to preliminary data, the high-rise building in Kyiv was likely struck by a russian Kh-101 missile, as stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address on May 14. According to the president, the missile was manufactured in the second quarter of this year. russia continues to obtain components and equipment for weapons production in circumvention of international sanctions.
On May 15, a Day of Mourning was declared in Kyiv to honor the victims of the russian attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that flags on all municipal buildings in the capital will be flown at half-mast. Any entertainment events in the city are prohibited.
According to the Ukrainian Floorball Federation, Ukrainian floorball player Yurii Orlov was killed as a result of the russian shelling of Kyiv on May 14.
Kyiv Metro reported that approximately 12,500 people took shelter in underground stations of the Kyiv metro during the massive shelling of the city overnight on May 14. They reminded that 46 underground stations of the capital’s metro operate as shelters 24/7. All lobbies remain open for entry during air raids.
Kyiv City State Administration reported on the evening of May 14 that water supply for consumers in Kyiv has been fully restored following the overnight shelling. Uninterrupted water supply is ensured in all districts of the city. Due to the enemy’s overnight attack and damage to power supply facilities, several districts in Kyiv had experienced water supply disruptions.
Zhytomyr oblast
According to the Head of the Regional Military Administration, within the framework of a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and russia, 10 residents of Zhytomyr oblast returned home. They are residents of Zhytomyr, Brusyliv, Irshansk, Ivankiv, Berdychiv, Korosten, Poliske, Zorokiv, and Krasnohirka. A long journey of recovery and rehabilitation lies ahead for them. In total, 205 defenders were released from captivity.
Ecologists recorded the consequences of a fire that broke out at the site of an enemy attack on a community in northern Zhytomyr oblast, as reported by the State Ecological Inspection of the Polissia District on May 14. Debris from downed enemy UAVs fell on the territory, causing a fire covering approximately 50 square meters. The data obtained will be used to further calculate the damage caused to atmospheric air and land resources as a result of russian armed aggression.
On May 14, a mobile bus for the “Teplokrovni” (Warm-blooded) project, converted into a blood donation station, operated in Berdychiv. The mobile hub awaited donors in the city center. A full donation cycle was set up inside the bus: registration, tests, blood pressure checks, and a blood collection zone.
Sumy oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy launched a UAV strike on civilian infrastructure in Putyvl community. An infrastructure facility was damaged. There are casualties. According to preliminary information, people sustained non-serious injuries.
The Regional Military Administration informed that, as of the morning of 15 May, two people, including one child, were injured as a result of enemy strikes in Sumy oblast over the past day. In Bilopillia community, a 54-year-old man was wounded after a russian drone hit a motorcycle. In Vorozhba community, a 17-year-old boy was injured as a result of a guided aerial bomb strike.
Over the day, from the morning of 14 May to the morning of 15 May 2026, russian troops carried out almost 40 attacks on 19 settlements in 10 territorial communities of oblast. Most attacks were recorded in Sumy region. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the day, air-raid alerts in oblast lasted 12 hours and 58 minutes.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- In Trostianets community, a private residential house, a garage and a car were damaged.
- In Vorozhba community, private residential houses, an apartment block, a garage, civilian infrastructure facilities and a car were damaged.
- In Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential house was damaged.
- In Mykolaivka rural community, an outbuilding and a car were damaged.
- In Buryn community, a private residential house was damaged.
- In Popivka community, a private residential house and premises of an educational institution were damaged.
- In Putyvl community, a private household was damaged.
- In Esman community, private residential houses were destroyed, and outbuildings and premises of a shop were damaged.
- In Shalyhyne community, a private residential house and outbuildings were destroyed.
- In Hlukhiv community, a private residential house was damaged.
- In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house was damaged.
Over the day, local authorities together with units of State Emergency Service, National Police and public organisations evacuated 17 people from border communities.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that at 6am on 15 May, russian troops struck one of the villages in Horodnia community by a Heran UAV. As a result of the attack, a house caught fire. A 13-year-old girl and her 45-year-old mother were injured.
During the day on 14 May, a russian attack drone hit an agricultural enterprise in Novhorod-Siverskyi. A grain storage tank was damaged. The fire at the site of the attack was extinguished.
According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, during 14 May, russian troops attacked four villages in three border communities of Chernihiv oblast — Semenivka, Snovsk and Horodnia. The enemy carried out one strike by tube artillery and six FPV drone strikes.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the enemy attacked Nikopol, Marhanets and Pokrovske rural communities by drones. In Marhanets, the occupiers deliberately targeted two ambulances and later struck medics again. An enterprise was also damaged.
In Myrove community, evening attacks destroyed a garage and damaged a house. UAVs were directed at Pavlohrad and Bohdanivka community. Nine private houses, two garages, two outbuildings and a car were damaged.
The enemy is again hunting civilian cars by drones. In Nikopol and Chervonohryhorivka community, two men aged 64 and 49 were injured. In total, the occupiers struck the region by drones and artillery, targeting Nikopol, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske rural communities. Fires broke out, and two outbuildings, a garage and four cars were damaged. russians struck Pokrovske and Slovianka communities by FPV drones. A fire broke out, and a private house and an unused building were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
During the first stage of the “1,000-for-1,000” exchange, Vitalii Diachok returned from russian captivity. The man is from Mohyliv-Podilskyi region, but before the full-scale invasion he lived with his family in Mykolaiv. The defender spent more than four years in captivity.
Vinnytsia Regional Art Museum hosted the presentation of a travelling exhibition titled “Kvit Pamiati”. Through textiles, installations, painting and music, women who lost their husbands, sons, brothers or fathers in the war preserve the memory of their loved ones and process their loss. The works were created by the authors together with artists and psychologists.
Kirovohrad oblast
Serviceman Ihor Poluiev from Novomyrhorodka community, Kirovohrad oblast, has returned to Ukraine from russian captivity.
Poltava oblast
During a prisoner exchange, serviceman Serhii Zakharov from Hradyzka community returned to Ukraine. Serhii Zakharov, a resident of Horby village in Hradyzka community, is one of six servicemen from Poltava oblast who were freed during another exchange between Ukraine and russia. The man voluntarily joined Defence Forces of Ukraine in 2022. In September of the same year, he was taken into russian captivity.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, said that a russian UAV was neutralised within Cherkasy oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia twice. According to the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, as a result of the attacks one person was killed and five others were injured. A fuel and lubricants tank, residential buildings, and an industrial facility were damaged.

On 15 May, russians twice attacked a transport infrastructure facility in Vilniansk. According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, five people were injured. According to available information, the russians attacked an electric train on the Zaporizhzhia-2 — Synelnykove route. russians also attacked the administrative building of one of the structural units of JSC “Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo” in Zaporizhzhia region. As a result of the shelling, vehicles and windows in the building were damaged.
According to Zaporizhzhia RMA, on 14 May, the occupiers carried out 772 strikes on 44 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 20 airstrikes on Lezhyne, Novooleksandrivka, Shyroke, Barvynivka, Kopani, Liubytske, Zelena Dibrova, Danylivka, Dolynka, Omelnyk, Preobrazhenka, Chervonyi Yar, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Charivne, and Mala Tokmachka. 533 UAVs of various types attacked Zaporizhzhia, Kushuhum, Novoolenivka, Rizdvianka, Liubytske, Vysokohirne, Znachkove, Novooleksandrivka, Bilenke, Rozumivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, and Preobrazhenka. Eight MLRS strikes targeted Lukianivske, Pavlivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Olenokostiantynivka. 211 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, and Olenokostiantynivka. 80 reports of damage to housing, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities were received. One person was killed as a result of an enemy attack on Polohy region.
The General Staff reported that on 15 May, there were 19 attacks toward the positions of our defenders in the areas of Pryluky, Zlahoda, Dobropillia, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Pryvillia, Zaliznychne, Tsvitkove, Vozdvyzhivka, Staroukrainka, Charivne, and Huliaipilske towards Huliaipole. One of these attacks is still ongoing. Over the previous day, 14 May, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 28 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during the night of 15 May the enemy attacked Snihurivka community, preliminarily using “Molniya” type UAVs. As a result of the strike, a private house was damaged in the town of Snihurivka. No casualties were reported.
On 14 May, the enemy attacked Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities 14 times using FPV drones. No casualties were reported.
FAO and Norway are launching a new program within the State Agrarian Register to support farmers affected by the war in Mykolaiv oblast. The program will help agricultural producers in Mykolaiv oblast restore their farming activities in war-affected areas, including on land plots that were officially demined, cleared, and returned to cultivation. Agricultural producers from Halytsynove, Horokhivka, Zavodske, Snihurivka, Shevchenkove, and Shyroke communities can apply for vouchers totaling 14 million UAH to support the recovery of agricultural production.
Odesa oblast
Odesa RMA reported that on 15 May an enemy UAV struck a private household and a garden cooperative in Odesa region. Two residential buildings were damaged, and a localized fire broke out on one of the properties. One person was injured.
During the night and morning, russian forces attacked Odesa oblast. According to the Regional Military Administration, as of 12:00, ten people were injured as a result of the overnight and morning strikes. Civilian and transport infrastructure was damaged, including four private houses, as well as technical facilities, a non-residential building, utility and administrative buildings, and passenger cars.
The “South” Air Command reported that on 14 May, russian forces launched five Kh-31P anti-radiation missiles at Odesa oblast. All of them were fired from the Black Sea, but did not reach their targets.
As part of the first stage of a major prisoner exchange, 205 Ukrainian servicemen returned from russian captivity. Among those released were five defenders from Odesa oblast. According to Odesa RMA, most of the servicemen had been held in captivity since 2022.
Kherson oblast
russian forces carried out attacks throughout the day on Kherson, including Tsentralnyi and Dniprovskyi districts. According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, at least 12 residents of Kherson were injured.
Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that three more people were injured in a morning russian attack on Komyshany. In addition, three residents of the region sought medical assistance due to earlier russian attacks.
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, on 14 May russian forces attacked Antonivka, Sadove, Komyshany, Zymivnyk, Chornobaivka, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Romashkove, Yantarne, Rozlyv, Zorivka, Tomyna Balka, Nezlamne, Dniprovske, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Dariivka, Inhulets, Poniativka, Mykilske, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Berehove, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Tarasa Shevchenka, Ukraina, Kachkarivka, Dudchany, Mykhailivka, Novooleksandrivka, Havrylivka, Chervone, Osokorivka, Zolota Balka, Lvivske, Novoberyslav, Novokairy, Sablukivka, Tiahynka, Vesele, and the city of Kherson. Multi-storey building, seven private houses, a shop, a gas pipeline, and private vehicles were damaged. As a result of russian aggression, two people were killed and 13 others were injured, including one child.
The General Staff reported that as of 16:00 on 15 May, russian forces attacked toward the Antonivskyi Bridge, Kherson.
On 15 May, as part of the first stage of the 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange, six servicemen from Kherson oblast were returned from russian captivity. The youngest is 29 years old, the oldest 54. According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, the released soldiers include marines, a border guard, and a soldier from a motorized infantry brigade.
It is reported that russian authorities illegally sentenced a woman from Kherson oblast to 5.5 years in prison. She was accused of “inciting terrorist activity.” They claim she allegedly posted comments online in 2023 calling for missile and bomb strikes on russian military positions and one of the checkpoints in occupied Crimea.

Volyn oblast
Practical training is being held in the city of Lutsk for 22 rescuers specializing in high-altitude objects. The exercises are being conducted by the emergency rescue squad of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine from Zhytomyr oblast, focusing on methods for eliminating the consequences of emergencies at height.
Zakarpattia oblast
Yurii Huzynets, Deputy Head of the oblast, met with Hans Walter Heidelberger, founder of the Nehemiah NGO, and representatives of the municipality of Furth. After another russian attack on Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, announced that the EU is finalizing a €6bn aid package that will be aimed at drones.
