Ukraine’s defence forces are holding back the russian occupiers’ offensive and taking measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory. So far, it has been 69 combat engagements.
Hostile artillery and mortar fire affected the communities of Arkhypivka and Kliusy in Chernihiv oblast; Prokhody, Oleksandrivka, Starykove, Bratenytsia, Marchykhina Buda, and Slavhorod in Sumy oblast. Boiar-Lezhachi, Sumy oblast, came under an air strike.
Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack near Vovchansk toward Kharkiv.
Towards Kupiansk, the invading army launched two attacks on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Pishchane and Novoozynove.
Towards Lyman, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders seven times in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Hrekivka, Ridkodub, Torske, Kolodiazi, Zelena Dolyna and in the direction of Olgovka, two of the clashes are ongoing.
TowardsSiversk, the enemy conducted five offensives in the areas of Bilohorivka and Hryhorivka, one firefight is still ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled two assault attacks by russian invaders. The enemy is trying to break through in the areas of Vasiukivka and Chasiv Yar.
Towards Toretsk, our defenders repelled one attack near Dyliivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, the russian invaders made 29 attempts to push our soldiers from their positions near the settlements of Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Myrnohrad, Udachne, Novosergiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Kotliarivka, Troitske, Andriivka, Zoria and Popov Yar. Defence forces are holding back the attack and have already repelled 23 enemy attacks. Poltavka and Pokrovsk came under air strikes.
Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy tried to break through the defences of our defenders 11 times in the areas of Kostiantynopil, Bahatyr, Rozdolne, Zelene Pole, Novosilky, three of which are still ongoing.
Towards Huliaipole, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions, but conducted air strikes in the areas of Huliaipole and Vysoke.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian troops repelled three enemy assaults in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Mali Shcherbaky.
Towards Kherson, the enemy attacked twice towards the positions of our defenders, but failed.
There were six firefights towards Kursk, two of which are still ongoing. In addition, the enemy carried out five air strikes, downing 10 drones, and fired 161 artillery rounds, including seven from multiple launch rocket systems.
In other areas, there were no major changes.
Ukraine has approved three modifications of pump-action shotguns for use in the army. Domestic 12-gauge pump-action shotguns are designed to perform a wide range of tactical tasks. They are fired with 76 mm cartridges that can be loaded with bullets or pellets. The weapon is effective, particularly in close combat, easy to operate and reliable. Such guns are suitable for infantrymen (as a support weapon) in combat in dense urban areas or narrow trenches.
The Ministry of Defence has authorised the use of the Spider ground robot in the Armed Forces. The robot, developed by Ukrainian engineers based on combat experience, can perform various tasks, such as delivering supplies or assisting engineers.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
Over the past day, 155 combat engagements were recorded, according to the Regional Military Administration (RMA). In the Kharkiv direction, our forces repelled three enemy attacks near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, two enemy attacks took place over the past day. Defense forces repelled assault actions near Nova Kruhliakivka and Zahryzove.
Shelling
Over the past day, eight settlements in Kharkiv Oblast came under enemy fire.
As a result of the shelling:
- In the village of Sadovod, Velykoburlutska community, a 55-year-old and a 56-year-old woman were injured.
- In the village of Ivashky, Zolochivska community, a 54-year-old man was wounded.
- In the village of Baranivka, Zolochivska community, a 54-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were injured.
The enemy used 7 guided aerial bombs (KABs) and 6 FPV drones against Kharkiv Oblast.
Civil infrastructure was damaged or destroyed in several areas:
▪️ In the Izium district – 2 private houses, a garage, a warehouse, and a vehicle were damaged.
▪️ In the Kupiansk district – 3 apartment buildings and 4 outbuildings were damaged.

Other
Ten farmers from the border Dergachivska community in Kharkiv Oblast have decided to cultivate their fields. They are conducting demining operations on their own and are planting crops in areas still within the reach of Russian FPV drones and multiple launch rocket systems.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
The Russian army carried out 70 attacks in the direction of Pokrovsk over the past day. The occupiers attempted to advance toward the highway to Kostiantynivka in the areas of Stara Mykolaivka, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, and Yelyzavetivka, as well as south of the city — near Kotlyne, Kotliarivka, Troitske, and Andriivka, according to the General Staff report.
Ukrainian forces repelled more than 20 assaults on the Lyman front and over 10 on the Novopavlivka axis.
Russian troops have deployed a separate Presidential Regiment of the FSB for assaults on Chasiv Yar, as they have been unsuccessful in this direction for a considerable time, said Ivan Petrychak, press officer of the 24th Brigade.
Shelling
At 5:00 a.m., Druzhkivka came under shelling — Russia damaged a multi-apartment residential building.
Five people were injured in Donetsk Oblast over the past day as a result of Russian shelling in Pokrovsk, Novyi, Leontovychi, and Hryshyne, reported Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Regional Military Administration.

Frontline and Shelling
Russian forces carried out 2,919 strikes along the front line and in residential areas.
The enemy shelled 13 settlements.
- In Novyi, Lyman community, two people were injured as a result of a UAV strike.
- In Hryshyne, Russian artillery wounded a civilian and damaged an apartment building and a garage.
- In Pokrovsk, one person was injured.
- In the village of Leontovychi, another person was injured.
- In Kramatorsk, Russian invaders struck with a missile, destroying two homes, garages, and a car.
- In Kostiantynivka, two KAB-250 aerial bombs and a drone strike damaged two private homes and a vehicle.
- In the village of Serhiivka, Kramatorsk district, the enemy launched 10 “Geran-2” (Shahed-type) drones, damaging non-residential buildings.
- In Rodynske, a KAB-250 bomb strike damaged 10 garages.
Other
Stepan Chubenko, a 16-year-old Ukrainian, was murdered in 2014 in occupied Donetsk by militants from the pro-Russian gang “Kerch” for his pro-Ukrainian stance. Today, a BMP infantry fighting vehicle named in his honor serves on the front line with the “Sarmat” battalion. Proceeds from books of his poetry are being used to help restore the “Hospitallers” volunteer medical base. His monument was evacuated from Kramatorsk to Lviv.

Luhansk oblast
The occupiers attempted to advance near Bilohorivka, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold the defense. The enemy also attacked in the area of Hrekivka, as reported by the regional military administration. In these areas, the enemy struck with artillery systems 12 times and used multiple launch rocket systems. A total of 171 unmanned aerial vehicles were directed towards our positions.
The “Zemskyi Likar” program has not been a lifesaver for the frontline towns and villages of the so-called “LPR.” Even with significant incentives, including payments of two million rubles, Russian doctors refused to work in the ruins. However, for the occupation authorities, statistical indicators and money are more important than people. Therefore, local residents began to be invited to participate in the Kremlin program. For example, a doctor from Rubizhne arrived in Rubizhne. The staffing shortage remains, but budgetary funds were spent.
In Lysychansk, local builders are having their salaries delayed after offering their services to contractors for the reconstruction of residential buildings. They were hired for vacant positions that the Russian contractors were unable to fill. By the way, the monthly salary of the Russian workers is significantly higher than that of the locals in Lysychansk.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
UNESCO will help restore the building of the Boychuk Kyiv Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts, which was destroyed during a russian missile attack on 25 March 2024. According to the memorandum, UNESCO will finance and organise the work, as well as monitor its implementation. The work will begin in a few weeks.

A group of Ukrainian veterans with amputations has travelled from Kyiv to Greece to take part in a sailing regatta. This event is to become the world’s first example of sailing being used as a rehabilitation tool. The trip is being organised by the Angels Patronage Service.
Regional State Administration reported that Ukraine’s first large-scale cultural and social project for IDPs, KnizhKut, has been launched in Kyiv oblast. Within its framework, it is planned to create book corners with modern Ukrainian-language literature in all 32 places of temporary residence in the region.
The 22nd Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival will take place in Kyiv and online from 6 to 13 June 2025.
Zhytomyr oblast
In the first quarter of 2025, veterans’ support specialists in Zhytomyr oblast received almost 3,000 applications from servicemen and their families. In total, more than 7,000 issues were addressed – from paperwork and legal assistance to retraining and employment. Oblast has already employed 73 specialists in 45 municipal institutions covering 49 communities. Their main task is to help veterans adapt to civilian life.
Last week, Zhytomyr oblast handed over 11 vehicles for the needs of military units. All the vehicles have undergone technical inspection and are being sent to the frontline. The Armed Forces also received 80 FPV drones. This assistance was made possible by the joint efforts of the authorities, volunteers and concerned citizens.
The RMA reported that among the 205 Ukrainian soldiers who returned from russian captivity last week there were 11 residents of Zhytomyr oblast.
Sumy oblast
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that in Stetskivka elderate, a man was injured by a drone strike while mowing grass near the impact site. He was taken to the hospital.
Sumy Municipal Military Administration informed that one person was killed and three others were injured due to enemy shelling in Sumy. On 12 May, at approximately 10:30am., russian forces struck the outskirts of the city, targeting a service vehicle belonging to energy workers.

According to State Enterprise ‘Forests of Ukraine,’ in Sumy, an enemy drone struck a forestry vehicle. The drone hit the lubrication tank, also damaging the cabin and a special installation. At the moment of the explosion, the driver had stepped away to fetch auto parts, and thus survived.
Around 2am., russian forces attacked Tuchne village in Mykolaiv settlement community. Serhii Pasko, Head of the community, the post office, school, cultural centre, medical facility, gas pipeline, and power lines sustained damage. Windows and roofs of residential buildings were also affected. According to preliminary information, the enemy struck with four ‘Tornado-S’ missiles carrying cluster munitions. As of noon, the village remained without electricity or communication.
As a result of an enemy attack in Vorozhba community, communication and electricity are currently unavailable. According to the city council, russian forces damaged a critical infrastructure facility.
The Regional Military Administration reported that in Sumy oblast, one person was killed and another injured due to russian shelling over the past day. A resident of Vorozhba community, born in 1953, died in hospital after being admitted on 5 May following the explosion of a guided aerial bomb. Additionally, a resident of Vorozhba community, born in 1986, was injured in a drone strike.
From the morning of 11 May to the morning of 12 May, russian forces carried out nearly 90 attacks on 33 settlements across 12 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. The enemy actively used MLRS (20 strikes), FPV-drones (40 strikes), and UAV-dropped fragmentation munitions (over 10 strikes). The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions.
In Sumy oblast, as a result of russian strikes on 11 May, the following were damaged:
- A private car, private household, and auto repair shop in Sumy community;
- A private house and car in Bilopillia community;
- A private household, a passenger car, a truck, and a civil infrastructure facility in Vorozhba community;
- A private house in Seredyna-Buda community.
Over the weekend, due to enemy shelling, more than 3,700 subscribers in two communities of Sumy region were left without electricity.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that between 8 and 11 May, the enemy shelled Sumy oblast 420 times. Over these four days, four people were killed, eight were injured, and 50 residential buildings were damaged.
Since 5 May, nearly 1,200 residents have been evacuated from Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities in Sumy region. Due to the worsening security situation, a mandatory evacuation is planned for Nova Sloboda in Konotop region.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that on 12 May, the enemy attacked the border areas of Chernihiv oblast using mortars and drones.
Chernihiv police informed that during the night of 12 May, russian forces directed several attack drones at civilian sites in Koriukivka region. As a result, in one of the villages of Snovsk community, a building of the local educational institution and its utility structures were damaged. The school is located just over 10 kilometres from the border with russia, and children there study remotely.

According to the Operational Command ‘North,’ in the border areas of Chernihiv oblast, private houses in two villages were damaged by russian drone and UAV attacks on 11 May. In Zaliznyi Mist village, Semenivka community, a house was damaged due to the dropping of an explosive device from a UAV. In Hremiach, houses were hit by FPV-drone strikes.
Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that on 11 May, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siversk, Semenivka, Horodnia, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (32 explosions) and barrel artillery strikes (42 explosions), launched FPV-drone attacks (27 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (35 explosions). A total of 18 settlements came under enemy fire.

Viacheslav Chaus, head of the Regional Military Administration. Last week, 29 settlements across three regions of Chernihiv oblast were under russian attacks. During this period, 221 shelling incidents were recorded, resulting in 479 explosions. On 5 May, a 74-year-old resident of a border village was injured in a russian strike while working in her garden near her house. Additionally, the shelling destroyed and damaged residential houses and a passenger car.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
In the evening, russian forces launched a KAB strike on Velykomykhailivka community in Synelnykove region. 2 men were injured, private houses and vehicles damaged. From evening until morning, the enemy continued attacks on Nikopol region by kamikaze drones and artillery. Targets included the regional centre and Pokrov, Marhanets and Myrove communities. The consequences of the morning attacks are being clarified.
During the day, russian forces launched approximately 20 attacks on Nikopol region, by drones and artillery. The attacks targeted the regional centre, Pokrov, Chervonohryhorivka, Marhanets and Myrove communities. 2 private houses and a utility building were damaged. There were no casualties reported.
Vinnytsia oblast
Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that Vinnytsia oblast provided aid to the Ukrainian military – 100 FPV drones will be sent to Pokrovsk region.
In Vinnytsia, a photo exhibition dedicated to the mothers of fallen Ukrainian defenders was opened to mark Mother’s Day. The exhibition features 22 panels with photo collages of mothers and their sons, accompanied by quotes from the soldiers about the war, Ukraine and maternal love.
Kirovohrad oblast
Roman Voluiko, Head of Haivoron City Council, said that in the city, a mural was created in honour of 21-year-old Azov Regiment fighter Dmytro Reinysh, call sign Rex. He was killed on 31 March 2022, during an evacuation from Azovstal.
Poltava oblast
Senior soldier Vitalii Birets from the Hradyzk community was killed on 5 May 2025, while performing a combat mission near Bahatyr village in Donetsk oblast. A serviceman from Poltava oblast, Junior Sergeant Kostiantyn Holub, was awarded the Cross of the Brave badge.
In Khorol city, plans are underway to renovate the area of the Alley of Heroes. The community has commissioned the development of project documentation for capital repairs and landscaping. Funding will be allocated from the local budget.
Cherkasy oblast
In Cherkasy, at the St. Michael’s Cathedral, a memorial ceremony was held for defender Pavlo Bilenkyi. He was killed on 30 April by an FPV drone strike in Kramatorsk region, Donetsk oblast. He was 24 years old.
At Monastyryshche Multidisciplinary Hospital, a Veteran’s Window service has been launched. 30 minutes of each day have been set aside exclusively for veterans and servicemen, during which time civilian patients will not be admitted.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
Today, 12 May, the russian army attacked Bilenke with a drone. As a result of the strike, a civilian car was damaged; there were no casualties or injuries.
Yesterday, the occupiers carried out 494 strikes on 16 populated areas in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces launched 6 airstrikes on Stepove, Huliaipole, Malynivka, and Zaliznychne. 314 UAVs of various types attacked Malokaterynivka, Lobkove, Stepove, Huliaipole, Verkhna Tyrsa, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. 6 MLRS attacks hit Zhovta Krucha, Stepove, Shcherbaky, Novodarivka, and Novoandriivka. 168 artillery strikes were carried out on Lobkove, Stepove, Pavlivka, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Four reports were received about the destruction of residential buildings, apartments, and outbuildings. Two people were injured as a result of enemy strikes on the village of Pavlivka in Vasylivka region.
According to the General Staff,Ukrainian soldiers repelled three enemy assault attempts near Mala Tokmachka and Mali Shcherbaky towards Orikhiv.
Mykolaiv oblast
Yesterday, 11 May, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community four times with FPV drones. The russians also attacked the Halytsynove community with a drone, the type of which is being identified.

Odesa oblast
On the morning of 12 May, the enemy attacked the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. Іeveral civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged, including private residential houses. One person was injured.

As of 6:00 am on 12 May, 3 enemy ships were stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, including 1 carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 8 missiles.
Over the past day, 4 vessels passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in russia’s interests, while 7 more ships entered the Sea of Azov.
Kherson oblast
A child was injured in Bilozerka due to a russian shelling. The 10-year-old girl was trapped under the rubble of the destroyed home as a result of an enemy shell hitting a house. Rescuers freed the child and handed her over to medics. She sustained blast and cranial injuries, a concussion, and shrapnel wounds to her legs.
A resident of Bilozerka who was injured in a russian shelling yesterday also sought medical help. The 59-year-old woman suffered a mine-blast injury, a concussion, and a brain contusion.
Yesterday, the enemy attacked Beryslav, Kozatske, Vesele, Mykhailivka, Bilozerka, Novoraisk, Stanislav, Shliakhove, Odradokamianka, Veletenske, Krupytsia, Antonivka, Sadove, Monastyrske, Burhunka, Osokorivka, Havrylivka, Dniprovske, Zmiivka, Ivanivka, Kizomys, Mykilske, Mykolaivka, Mylove, Novooleksandrivka, Olhivka, Poniativka, Rakivka, Tokarivka, Tiahynka, and the city of Kherson using drones, artillery shelling, and airstrikes.
As a result of the attacks, five apartment buildings, nine private houses, a cell tower, and private vehicles were damaged. Due to Russian aggression, five people were injured.
Over the past week, the enemy attempted 1,980 drone strikes on communities in Kherson oblast. 81% of these UAVs were shot down.
The enemy carried out one unsuccessful attempt to attack Ukrainian defenders’ positions in the Dnipro River sector. Over the past day, enemy losses amounted to 120 troops, 2 tanks, 9 artillery systems, 29 units of automotive and armored equipment, 3 air defense systems, 5 UAVs, 3 electronic warfare stations, 8 motorcycles, 1 buggy, 4 boats, 4 generators, 6 UAV antennas, 5 communication antennas, 1 surveillance camera, 2 ammunition storage sites, and 1 equipment storage site. 70 shelters and 3 observation posts were destroyed.

In Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, personally congratulated Major Robert Brovda, commander of the 414th Separate Brigade of the Strike Unmanned Aircraft Systems Birds of the Magiar, from Zakarpattia oblast, and presented him with the Order of the Hero of Ukraine Golden Star. The Golden Star Order was also received from the hands of the President by Daria, the wife of the fallen hero, Zakarpattia Anatolii Tehza, who was awarded the title posthumously.

Lviv oblast
10 ambulances have arrived in Lviv, donated by the Aide Médicale & Caritative France – Ukraine Association. The vehicles are intended for evacuation needs in oblasts that are subjected to enemy attacks every day: Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. This is the 8th humanitarian convoy organized by French partners with the assistance of the SANAGRO Ukraine All-Ukrainian Resuscitation Council and LLC.
Rivne oblast
The RMA reported that oblast is starting to inspect communal facilities that can later be reorganized into housing for internally displaced persons. The deadline is 1 September 1.
Ternopil oblast
Te 44th Hetman Danylo Apostol Separate Artillery Brigade received 2 electronic warfare (EW) devices from Ternopil. This equipment allows them to effectively counter enemy drones, creating a protective shield for our military.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community sent 12 DJI MATRICE 4T worth UAH 2.4m to various units of the Defense Forces.
Chernivtsi oblast
Grenade launcher of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelveis soldier Maksimilian Zhovtovskyi with the call sign Zhovtyy received the III degree For Courage Order. After being wounded in battle, the soldier returned to the unit. He was awarded the For Wounds medal.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary-General of the EU External Action Service, stated that the EU will direct another EUR 900m from russian assets to arms for Ukraine.
Germany stated that russia has until the end of the day to establish a ceasefire. If a ceasefire is not established in Ukraine by the end of Monday, Berlin, together with its European partners, will begin the process of preparing new sanctions against the russian federation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, held a conversation with Pope Leo XIV. The President of Ukraine invited His Holiness to make an apostolic visit to Ukraine. They agreed to stay in touch and plan a personal meeting in the near future.
