It has been the 1538  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 10 May, the number of attacks by the aggressor reached 60.

Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the settlements of Korenok, Novovasylivka, Rohozine, Yastrubshchyna, Budky, Atynske, Neskuchne, Bachivsk, Luzhky, Volfyne, and Iskryskivshchyna were affected.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, one combat engagement is ongoing out of the nine that took place today. Additionally, the enemy carried out 41 strikes on settlements and the positions of Ukrainian troops, ten of which involved multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units eight times in the vicinity of Zelene, Starytsia, Petro-Ivanivka, Myrove, Symynivka, and Krasne Pershe. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, Kramatorsk, Orikhiv, and Kherson, the enemy conducted no offensive actions.

Towards Lyman, the enemy launched five assaults in the vicinity of Zarichne, Lyman, Stavky, and Ozerne.

Towards Sloviansk, the Defense Forces successfully repelled two attempts by the invaders to advance in the vicinity of Rai-Oleksandrivka and Riznykivka.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out five attacks in the vicinity of Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Stepanivka, and Ivanopillia. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers tried 24 times to dislodge Ukrainian soldiers from their positions in the vicinity of Rodynske, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Muravka, and Novopidhorodne, and towards Hannivka, Myrne, Serhiivka, and Novooleksandrivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, the Defense Forces successfully repelled nine enemy attacks in the vicinity of Rybne, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Olenokostiantynivka, and Huliaipilske.

In other areas, there were no significant changes in the situation. No attempts by the enemy to advance were recorded.

Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of contact and in the rear.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Front line

As of the evening, a combat engagement was ongoing towards Southern Sloboda, the General Staff of the AFU reported. Since the beginning of the day, russian troops have attacked eight times in the vicinity of Zelene, Starytsia, Petro-Ivanivka, Myrove, Symynivka, and Krasne Pershe. Towards Kupiansk, no active assault actions by the russian army were recorded.

The General Staff of the AFU reports that over the past day, 147 combat engagements were recorded at the front. Towards Southern Sloboda, russian troops attacked the positions of the Defense Forces nine times in the vicinity of Prylipka, Izbytske, Starytsia, Ternova, Petro-Ivanivka, Synelnykove, and Novovasylivka. Towards Kupiansk, the russian army carried out one attack towards Kupiansk.

The press service of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Kish Otaman Kost Hordiienko reported that during two years of defending Vovchansk, its fighters have neutralized over 18,000 russian servicemen and taken 194 prisoners.

Shelling

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, reported that a russian UAV struck a private house in the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv, causing the roof to catch fire. Rescuers localized the fire; there were no casualties.

Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of the Derhachi community, reported that at 14:20, a russian FPV drone struck a pharmacy in Slatyne. A 74-year-old displaced person in a nearby parked car sustained light facial injuries and an acoustic trauma but refused hospitalization. The car and the rear facade of the pharmacy were also damaged.

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the Zolochiv CMA, reported that at 14:20, russian troops attacked Zolochiv with a Molniia drone. The strike damaged a private house, a shed, a summer kitchen, and power grids.

In the night of May 10, russian troops attacked Liutivka of the Zolochiv community with Molniia and FPV drones, according to Viktor Kovalenko. Two two-story apartment buildings and outbuildings were damaged in the village.

On the morning of May 10, the russian army attacked Zolochiv twice with FPV drones. At 09:30, a drone hit a passenger car, also damaging a private house and a shop. At 10:05, a strike was recorded near the market, damaging pavilions, a shop, two civilian cars, and a private house. A 29-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction and a concussion.

Kharkiv RMA reported that over the past day, Kharkiv and seven settlements in the region were subjected to enemy strikes. Eight people were injured, including two children.

  • In Kharkiv, three women and two 8-year-old boys suffered acute stress reactions.
  • In Stetskivka of the Velykyi Burluk community, two men and a woman were wounded.
  • Russian troops also attacked the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv with a UAV.

Over the day, the russian army deployed five “Molniia” UAVs, three FPV drones, and 14 unidentified drones across Kharkiv oblast. Damage was recorded to an apartment building in Kharkiv, two private houses in the Bohodukhiv region, and a car in the Kupiansk region.

Andrii Kanashevych, Head of the Kupiansk RDA, reported that a 62-year-old man died from wounds sustained during a russian UAV strike in Sadovid (Velykyi Burluk community) on May 8.

Donetsk oblast

Front line

According to the General Staff of the AFU, on the first day of the “truce” declared by russia, the occupiers conducted 28 assaults towards Pokrovsk. The russian army attacked near Bilytske, Nykanorivka, Dorozhnie, Novooleksandrivka, Rodynske, Vasylivka, Udachne, Molodetske, Novomykolaivka, Novopidhorodne, Kotlyne, Hryshyne, and Serhiivka. Another 11 attacks were recorded towards Kostiantynivka.

In the vicinity of Pokrovsk, for several days now, the russian military has been using symbols featuring a red cross on white fabric to move their units.

Dmytro Zaporozhets, spokesperson for the 11th Army Corps, reported that towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, russian troops continue to deploy strike and reconnaissance drones despite the declared “truce.” According to him, the actions of the russian army show no intention of ceasing hostilities.

In the Myrnohrad area, Ukrainian military continue to hold their positions and eliminate russian stormtroopers, according to Vladyslav Ukhvatkin, an officer of the 38th Separate Marine Brigade. He noted that the occupiers exert constant pressure with small infantry groups and utilize tree foliage for camouflage to advance toward the Defense Forces’ positions.

Shelling

The day before, seven settlements in Donetsk oblast were under fire: Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Dobropillia, Osykove, and Shavrove. According to the Donetsk region police, 14 civilian objects were damaged, including three residential buildings.

  • Druzhkivka: Russian troops attacked seven times with FPV drones. Two civilians were wounded, and three apartment buildings and a civilian car were damaged.
  • Kostiantynivka: A person was wounded as a result of a russian drone hit; a civilian car was damaged.
  • Kramatorsk: On the first day of the russian-declared “truce,” the city suffered several drone attacks. Oleksandr Honcharenko, Head of Kramatorsk CMA, reported no fatalities. Police data shows the city was struck by six UAVs, damaging an educational institution, a shop, and vehicles.
  • Dobropillia village: A civilian was injured, and a car was damaged.

Other

Petro Andriushchenko, Head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, reports that in the temporarily occupied territories, russians are systematically implementing child militarization projects, subsequently transferring successful practices to russian territory. According to him, these processes are coordinated from Moscow and are already resulting in some children voluntarily joining the occupying army after graduating from school.

Luhansk oblast

Oleksii Kharchenko, Head of Luhansk RMA, reported that on the Lyman section of the front, russian troops attacked five times in the vicinity of four settlements over the past day. In Luhansk oblast, the occupiers used mortars four times and tube artillery twice, while also actively deploying drones.

In occupied Luhansk, the russian administration plans to “nationalize” approximately 150 commercial real estate objects. Following their focus on residential property, the occupiers have begun inspecting non-residential buildings. Properties are at risk of seizure if the owners have not appeared for three months or if there are utility bill debts.

The russian administration in the temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast has launched an online vote for landscaping projects purportedly slated for restoration in 2026. However, front-line cities lack internet access, and no other voting methods have been provided. Consequently, cities captured in 2014 that are less damaged by recent combat—such as Alchevsk, Rovenky, and Khrustalnyi—are receiving the most votes.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

A large-scale fire is raging in the Chornobyl zone. The situation is most critical near the Pripyat River and in the Opachytsia Nature Reserve. According to the Chornobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve, firefighting operations have been temporarily suspended in certain areas due to the risk of landmines. As of the morning of May 10, the estimated area affected by the fire is about 1,200 hectares. The situation remains under control. Radiation levels in the area of the fire remain within normal limits.

According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the Borodianka territorial community received four SOR NB 12 low-floor buses from Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic; the handover ceremony took place with the participation of the Mayor of Prague.

Representatives of the international humanitarian organization Osprey Relief Foundation (ORF), which implements projects to support medical facilities, paid a working visit to the Yagotin City Hospital.

The Fastiv Executive Committee and the Caritas Fastiv Charitable Foundation signed a memorandum of cooperation as part of the “Path to Veterans’ Reintegration” initiative.

The Boyarka territorial community hosted a delegation from the Zlatopil community in Kharkiv oblast as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities.”

The SMIDYUK RUN charity race in support of defenders took place in Irpin.

In Bucha, Ukraine’s first Art&Tech mental recovery program, “Circle of Resilience: Artistic Regeneration of Communities,” was launched.

Zhytomyr oblast

The representatives of the Zhytomyr Regional Blood Center reported that on May 8, a mobile bus converted into a mobile blood donation station was put into service for the first time on Peremoha Square in Zhytomyr. The blood donation station was provided by representatives of the “Teplokrovni” Charitable Foundation.

Sumy oblast

On the night of 9 May, Bereza village came under attack by russian drones. Five UAVs hit residential buildings, four of them striking one family’s home. The house, which the couple had been building for more than 40 years, burned down completely along with the household property.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, over the past day, 9 May, a 47-year-old man was injured in Znob-Novhorodske community after an enemy drone hit a car. Private houses and civilian infrastructure facilities were also destroyed and damaged.

On the morning of 9 May, a 46-year-old man, the driver of a grain truck hit by a russian drone in Hlukhiv community on 3 May, died in a hospital intensive care unit. Doctors had fought for his life for six days. The man underwent several operations, but his injuries proved too severe.

From the morning of 9 May to the morning of 10 May, russian forces carried out more than 50 attacks on 18 settlements in nine territorial communities of Sumy oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy region. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones and UAVs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 1 hour and 6 minutes over the day.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

  • In Bilopillia community, a private residential house was destroyed.
  • In Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential house was damaged.
  • In Sumy community, a private residential house and outbuildings were destroyed.
  • In Znob-Novhorodske community, a private passenger car was destroyed.
  • In Putyvl community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
  • In Berezivka community, outbuildings were damaged as a result of earlier attacks.
  • In Seredyna-Buda community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of earlier attacks.
  • In Esman community, a private residential house was destroyed as a result of earlier attacks.

Denys Naumov, Regional Evacuation Coordinator in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts for Proliska Humanitarian Mission, reported that volunteers evacuate up to three people a day from the border area of Sumy oblast. According to him, FPV drones can now reach up to 30 km into the territory, forcing people to evacuate. People with limited mobility are also being evacuated.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that on 10 May at around 12:40pm, russian forces attacked a private car in Semenivka by an FPV drone. As a result, the 47-year-old female driver was injured and taken to hospital. She was diagnosed with shrapnel wounds.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that on 9 May at 10:20pm, russians attacked civilian infrastructure on the northern outskirts of Semenivka by an FPV drone. According to him, the enemy is once again treacherously attacking the border area, despite agreements and legal norms.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, informed that on 9 May, the enemy attacked several villages in the border area of Chernihiv oblast by FPV drones. As a result, houses, cars and a communications facility were destroyed and damaged. Enemy forces carried out attacks in Koriukivka region and in one of the villages of Novhorod-Siverskyi region.

Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that during 9 May, russian troops attacked five villages in Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka border communities. The enemy carried out 17 FPV drone strikes and dropped an explosive device from a UAV.

10 May was declared a Day of Mourning in Novhorod-Siverskyi community following the deaths of a father and son, Leonid Podkovka and Ihor Pidkovka, as a result of a russian attack on an agricultural enterprise in Pecheniuhy village. As reported earlier, on 8 May at around 7:40pm, russian forces attacked civilian infrastructure in the village by two Heran-type drones.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that occupying forces attacked the regional centre and Marhanets community by drones. The enemy used UAVs to strike Ukrainka and Bohynivka communities. In Ukrainska community, a three-year-old girl was injured. A car caught fire and infrastructure was damaged.

Occupying forces attacked the region by drones. They targeted the regional centre, Pokrovske rural, Chervonohryhorivka, Marhanets and Myrove communities. A private house and a power line were damaged.

Poltava oblast

Two servicemen from Poltava oblast were killed while defending Ukraine from russian forces in the battle for the country’s territorial integrity. They were Oleksii Balala from Velyki Budyshcha territorial community and Serhii Saburov from Kremenchuk.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, a rally titled “Do Not Stay Silent — Captivity Kills” was held. Relatives of defenders installed a heart-shaped display in the square with children’s drawings dedicated to mothers who are waiting.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA reported that russian troops struck Kushuhum in Zaporizhzhia region. A 52-year-old man was injured.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that on 9 May, the occupiers launched 780 strikes on 33 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 598 UAVs of various modifications (mostly FPV drones) attacked Komyshuvakha, Novooleksandrivka, Bilenke, Rozumivka, Yasna Poliana, Novoserhiivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Olenokostiantynivka, Tsvitkove, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Preobrazhenka, and Bilohiria. Eight MLRS strikes hit Huliaipilske, Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, Stepnohirsk, and Pavlivka. 174 artillery strikes targeted Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Hirke, Huliaipilske, and Staroukrainka. Authorities received 16 reports of damage to housing, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities. One person was killed and three others injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Polohy regions.

The General Staff reported that the Defense Forces successfully repelled nine enemy attacks near the settlements of Rybne, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Olenokostiantynivka, and Huliaipilske towards Huliaipole. On 9 May, despite the ceasefire announced by russia, the Defense Forces repelled 27 russian attacks towards Huliaipole.

According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov, during the past week, from 1 to 8 May, interceptor drone crews of the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 417 russian unmanned aerial vehicles over Zaporizhzhia. According to him, the drones targeted civilians and critical infrastructure.

Mykolaiv oblast

In Mykolaiv on 10 May, people once again traditionally held a reminder action for prisoners of war and missing servicemen. More than 100 people joined the event carrying posters and flags of their relatives and friends. A similar reminder action for prisoners of war and those missing in action also took place in Yuzhnoukrainsk. Around 40 people attended it.

Odesa oblast

The press service of the city council reported that a memorial alley dedicated to fallen Ukrainian servicemen has been created in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. As part of the initiative, more than 30 trees were planted in Olympic Square.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, on 10 May at around 08:40 an employee of Kherson City Council was injured in an enemy drone strike in Korabelnyi district. The 53-year-old man was taken to hospital with blast injuries and a leg wound.

A man who was injured today in a russian drone strike in Korabelnyi district of Kherson was also hospitalized. The 49-year-old Kherson resident was diagnosed with a concussion, blast injuries, and an acute stress reaction.

The Police of Kherson oblast reported that on 9 May, the russian forces attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Tomyna Balka, Nezlamne, Komyshany, Tokarivka, Molodizhne, Bilozerka, Dniprovske, Romashkove, Rozlyv, Chereshenky, Zorivka, Nadiivka, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Urozhaine, Dudchany, Rakivka, Novovorontsovka, Sahaidachne, Kostyrka, Zolota Balka, Kozatske, and Vesele. As a result of the attacks, 17 civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged: eight private houses, four vehicles, two garages, an apartment building, and a hospital building. One person was killed and six civilians were injured due to russian aggression, including a 17-year-old girl.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A village in Volyn oblast provides free housing for displaced people. The premises of the former boarding school were completely converted into a modern apartment complex with funds from the EU Support for Urgent Needs of IDP Accommodation in Ukraine Program. The complex features cozy 1- and 2-room apartments with everything you need for life. The territory of the temporary residence is well-maintained and has recreation areas for children and adults.

Zakarpattia oblast

A training on adaptation and psychosocial support for persons released from captivity and their families was held in Uzhhorod. The event, which was held as part of the How Are You? program, brought together 60 specialists from various fields – from doctors and psychologists to social workers and clergy.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that a memorial plaque to the fallen Hero Dmytro Lashta was unveiled in the city.

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that Pidberiztsi community purchased armor plates worth almost UAH 25,000 for the needs of a soldier from the Chyzhykivskyi Starostyn district.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne oblast, veteran support specialists have processed over 43,000 requests. The system of support for veterans and their families continues to develop in Rivne oblast. Currently, 129 veteran support specialists work in 59 communities of Rivne oblast. Another 38 positions remain vacant.

Ternopil oblast

61 defenders from Ternopil will receive a one-time cash grant to purchase equipment. This year, 2,431 servicemen have already received the funds.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

761 active military personnel from Khmelnytskyi community received funds for their own needs. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 7.6m.

Chernivtsi oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled at Hlybok Lyceum to the deceased graduate Hlib Pek. Hlib Pek was born on 6 January 1988 in Kazakhstan, but grew up in Hlybok. Back in 2014, he joined the Cossack Guard public formation. In December 2022, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, served as a machine gunner and sniper.

Jean Reno, French actor, has dedicated a novel to Ukrainian children abducted by russia. The actor’s book Escape has been published by a French publishing house. The key theme of the novel is the abduction of Ukrainian children by russia during the war. The novel combines elements of a spy thriller with a documentary basis and is designed to draw the attention of the international community to the problem of illegal deportation of children.
