In a report dated 31 March, the institute draws attention to the information that it was in this area of the frontline, near Tonenke village, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine recently repelled the largest mechanised offensive since the autumn of 2023. They refer to data released by a Ukrainian serviceman: units of the russian 6th Tank Regiment (90th Tank Division) launched an assault near Tonenke village on 30 March involving 36 tanks and 12 armoured personnel carriers. ISW noted that the units of the russian 90th Tank Division “represent a significant unused operational reserve” and this is the first time they have been deployed towards Avdiivka. Analysts believe that this may indicate that the russian military command may decide to continue and intensify its efforts to advance west of Avdiivka and this front may become a priority area for the russian offensive in the summer.
