Russian forces have concentrated their main efforts on the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions. Russia is also attempting to break through near the city of Kostiantynivka. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are holding back the advance, particularly near Kostiantynivka. The Russian army is using aircraft, guided aerial bombs (KABs), and light equipment, according to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Grouping of Troops (OSUV “Khortytsia”).

Russian troops are trying to break through with small assault groups toward the settlement of Dachne in Dnipropetrovsk region, near the border with Donetsk region. However, they have not succeeded in fully capturing the settlement. Luhansk oblast

Military Activity

In their attempts to advance, the invaders are using all available weapons, according to the Regional Military Administration. Yesterday alone, they fired 25 times with tube artillery, carried out an airstrike, launched 59 drones, and used four FPV drones.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched 19 attacks over the past day. Another four attacks occurred in the Siverskyi direction.

Occupied Territories

There is a severe shortage of bus drivers in the occupied part of Luhansk region — Russian authorities estimate the deficit to be between 50% and 70%. One local carrier currently employs only 135 drivers out of the 400 needed. As a result, most routes are operating in a limited mode, with some buses running only on specific days of the week. Despite promises of official employment, many men are afraid of forced conscription. The so-called “LNR” is on the brink of a transportation collapse.

Occupiers in Luhansk region are cutting off gas and electricity in frontline towns and villages for even the smallest debts. This applies to Holubivka, Sokolohirsk, Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, and settlements in the Svatove, Kreminna, and Slovianoserbsk districts. These harsh policies have been in effect since June. Charges are being issued even when homeowners are absent. The occupiers are demanding that every subscriber left without gas and electricity immediately repay their debts. However, due to the lack of jobs in cities destroyed by Russia, many residents simply cannot afford to pay for services.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that a woman born in 1980 was injured in Brovary district, Kyiv oblast, as a result of a russian attack. She was hospitalised with a closed chest fracture. A 61-year-old man was also injured and suffered an acute stress reaction.

According to the Regional Military Administration, the russian military launched a massive and combined attack with UAVs and missiles on Kyiv oblast. The attack lasted over 7 hours. Ordinary peaceful towns and villages in the region were under attack.

At night, an enemy attack caused a fire at one of the enterprises in the Brovary district with an area of 8,000 square metres. According to the State Emergency Service, 73 personnel and 16 vehicles were used to extinguish the fire in the village of Trebukhiv. No casualties were reported.

The state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” reported that forestries in Zhytomyr and Kyiv oblasts were hit during a night attack on 9 July, when russia launched 728 drones across Ukraine. The total affected area is 1.23 hectares. Thanks to new firefighting equipment, foresters responded in time and brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading further. The damage mainly affected pine plantations in the Korosten and Boryspil forest districts.

In Kyiv, Roman Oryschenko, a platoon commander of the 72nd Separate Mechanised Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians who died at the front, has been laid to rest. He was one of the leaders of the Plast National Scout Organisation and a co-founder of the Maidan Self-Defence Forces.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has released information about a russian military officer who, according to the investigation, was involved in the strike on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv on 8 July last year. The suspect is Major Denis Alekseevich Sheynov of the russian Armed Forces, head of the special engineering service of the 121st Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division. This unit was directly involved in the attack on Okhmatdyt. A total of 627 children were in the hospital at the moment of the attack.

The Kyiv City Military Administration has announced that the Israeli threat warning system will not be implemented in Kyiv. The military considers such an alert system technically impractical for the capital. Due to the density of buildings and the specific nature of threats, in particular “suicide bombers,” it is not possible to quickly and accurately distinguish air threats by district.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that on 9 July, during a massive enemy attack on Zhytomyr oblast, the production premises of a carpentry workshop and farm buildings were damaged. The windows of two multi-storey residential buildings were also damaged. Two fires  broke out as a result of enemy strikes, but were  extinguished by the State Emergency Service later.

An enemy missile hit a complex of farm buildings – as of 13:00, more than fifty objects had burned down. The shock wave also damaged the windows and doors of two nearby apartment buildings. A commission is working on site to assess the damage to property.

According to the State Emergency Service, a forest fire broke out in Zhytomyr oblast as a result of the enemy attack, with nearly two dozen pieces of special equipment called in to extinguish it. Before the arrival of the rescuers, forest firefighting teams began extinguishing the fire on their own, and later worked together with firefighters to localise the hot spots. After that, sappers arrived at the location.

Since the beginning of the year, around 50 agricultural enterprises in Sumy oblast have been damaged. Two people were killed and five others injured. Despite this, over 1m. hectares of arable land have been sown in the oblast, and the harvest will begin in 3–4 days.

To protect key logistical routes, including those used for evacuating civilians, work is underway to cover roads by anti-drone netting. These tasks were defined by the Regional Defense Council. The work is carried out daily — in close coordination with the military, taking into account the frontline situation and established priorities.

According to the Regional Police, from Myropillia community in Sumy oblast, ‘White Angel’ police unit evacuated a man who survived russian shelling.
