What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The National Police have announced that the curfew in Kyiv will not be lifted over Easter. It will remain in force from midnight to 5am. Law enforcement officers will be on high alert during church services.
the Office of the Prosecutor General has reported that a senior officer of the russian FSB’s military counter-intelligence unit has been notified of suspicion of torturing civilians during the occupation of Dymer. Together with russian paratroopers from the 83rd Airborne Brigade, he set up a base on the premises of the ‘Alfa-Land’ enterprise, one of whose workshops was turned into a makeshift torture chamber for civilians. People were held there for several days and interrogated on suspicion of collaborating with the Ukrainian military. During these “interrogations”, they were beaten with fists, feet and rifle butts, forced to kneel and intimidated by gunshots fired nearby.
Detector Media reported that Yevhen Maloletka’s photograph has been included in the list of winners of the 2026 World Press Photo Contest. The photograph documents the aftermath of the russian shelling of Kyiv on 24 April 2025. Valeria Sinyuk sits outside her damaged home. She was asleep when a russian missile destroyed the neighbouring building.

Zhytomyr oblast
A workshop on making Easter wreaths was held at Zhytomyr Library Branch No. 16 for the wives of veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The library’s manager, Nataliia Karpova, reported that this was the first time such a workshop had been organised at the library. The library organised the masterclass in partnership with staff from the day centre for veterans and their families run by the public association ‘Veteran’s Home’.
At the Holovenka Gymnasium in Zhytomyr oblast, a student club called ‘Historical and Technical Display Modelling’ has been running since 2023. Its members create models of military and civilian vehicles, as well as replicas of architectural landmarks. Club leader Andrii Chevpotenko reported that the diorama ‘The Ghost of Kyiv – Guarding the Skies’, on which the pupils had worked for three years, had won prizes at regional and national competitions. It is dedicated to the memory of Andriy Pilshchikov, a pilot with the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, who died on 25 August 2023 in a plane crash in Zhytomyr oblast.
Sumy oblast
Ivan Shevtsov, Assistant to Head of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Detachment “Steel Border,” reported that towards Kursk, russian forces are employing tactics of small assault groups consisting of two to three servicemen. The intensity of hostilities in Sumy oblast is higher within Khotin and Yunakivka territorial communities. On the previous day, russian forces made six attempts to assault Defence Forces positions there, all of which were successfully repelled.
On 9 April, russian servicemen struck a transport enterprise in Okhtyrka by two drones. Buildings and lorries were damaged. Employees were present at the facility at the time of the strike. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration, said that a Molniya-type UAV struck Stetskivskyi starostat. A residential building was damaged, including roofs, windows, and outbuildings.
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, informed that on the morning of 9 April, russian forces attacked Hlukhiv community. Two employees of a petrol station were injured as a result of the strike. A 37-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman received medical assistance and will undergo outpatient treatment. A building and at least one civilian vehicle were damaged.
During the night of 9 April, russian forces carried out an air strike on Shostka community. Two houses were damaged, and part of the community was left without electricity. According to Mayor Mykola Noha, there were no casualties.
The City Military Administration reported that on 8 April, Stetskivskyi starostat of Sumy community was attacked by enemy FPV drones. A residential building was hit. More than ten windows and two balcony frames were shattered in a multi-apartment building, and outbuildings were damaged.
According to the Regional Military Administration, as a result of enemy shelling on 8 April, a 33-year-old woman was injured in Sumy community following a drone strike.
Over the past day, from the morning of 8 April to the morning of 9 April, russian forces carried out more than 100 attacks on 36 settlements across 18 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 22 hours and 36 minutes over the day.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- in Esman community, private residential houses and outbuildings were destroyed;
- in Shalyhyne community, a private residential house was destroyed and a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Znob-Novhorodske community, private residential houses were destroyed and a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Hlukhiv community, a non-residential building and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- in Shostka community, private houses and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- in Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Berezivka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Trostianets community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Bilopillia community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in Vorozhba community, a non-residential premises was damaged;
- in Velyka Pysarivka community, a shop premises was destroyed and a vehicle was damaged;
- in Sumy community, a multi-apartment residential building, private houses, and passenger vehicles were damaged.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that pn the morning of 9 April, the enemy struck one of the villages in Kyselivka community, located near the regional centre. A fire broke out following a UAV strike and was promptly extinguished by rescue teams.
According to village head Vita Aliieva, an outbuilding was damaged, while a garage and a non-residential building were destroyed. Eight additional houses were affected in the epicentre of the explosion.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Reginal Military Administration, reported that during the daytime of 8 April, russian forces attacked Semenivka using FPV drones and Molniya-type UAVs. At least three strikes were recorded. Civilian infrastructure was under enemy attack.
According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, over the course of 8 April, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Horodnia. The enemy carried out shelling using mortars (4 explosions) and tube artillery (12 explosions), conducted a UAV strike of the Molniya type (1 explosion), and FPV drone strikes (16 explosions). Eleven settlements came under enemy fire.
As a result of russian shelling in Chernihiv oblast, equipment belonging to the television channel “Pryluky” was destroyed. At the time of the attack, journalists were in the City Council building, where they were filming a meeting of the executive committee. Media workers lost two full sets of video recording equipment, Director of the channel Iryna Pavliutina told the Institute of Mass Information.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that in Nikopol, a 28-year-old woman was injured as a result of a morning FPV drone attack. Since the evening, russian forces had been striking the regional centre, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities by FPV drones.
Fires broke out. 3 high-rise buildings, 3 private houses, a garage and 7 vehicles were damaged. A 21-year-old man sought medical assistance following yesterday’s attack.
In Pavlohrad, a 49-year-old man was injured in a UAV attack.
A shop caught fire and 2 private houses and 2 shops were damaged. The russian forces struck Mykolaivka community by UAVs. 2 vehicles burned and 2 private houses and a car were damaged.
A 17-year-old boy was injured in the morning attack in Pavlohrad. Infrastructure was damaged. In Pokrovske rural community, a 66-year-old woman was injured. The russian forces continued attacking the oblast by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural and Marhanets communities. A fire broke out. 4 private houses, 2 outbuildings, municipal and industrial enterprises, 3 vehicles, a tractor and a power line were damaged. Also, russian forces attacked Dubovykivka and Vasylkivka communities by UAVs. A private house caught fire and 3 houses and an outbuilding were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
In Vinnytsia, a workshop on traditional pysanka (Easter egg) painting was organised for servicemen undergoing treatment and rehabilitation. 6 defenders took part. The session was led by Honored Folk Artist Nataliia Kosakivska.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava, ahead of Easter, the campaign Paska for a Defender has begun. It was launched 11 years ago by the charitable organization Poltava Battalion of the Indifferent. This year, funds are being raised to purchase Starlink equipment.
Cherkasy oblast
Ukrainian serviceman Volodymyr Baida from Cherkasy oblast was killed in the war. He was 26 years old and died while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that men aged 44 and 67 were injured as a result of an FPV drone attack on a car near a private house in Yurkivka.
A woman and a man were killed and 7 injured as a result of a morning russian attack on Balabyne. Among the injured is an 8-year-old girl. The russian forces carried out at least 8 strikes. Private houses in the settlement were damaged.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 8 April, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 18 russian attacks in Huliaipole region. Combat engagements were recorded near the settlements of Pryluky, Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Olenokostiantynivka, Varvarivka, Myrne and Huliaipole.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that russian forces launched over 800 strikes on 43 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on 8 April, russian forces attacked Ochakiv and Snihurivka communities by FPV drones and Molniia-type UAVs. A café and the roof of a multi-apartment building were damaged.
Odesa oblast
Referring to Odesa Regional Military Administration, during the night, russian forces attacked Odesa oblast by strike UAVs. Damage was recorded at a critical infrastructure facility. There were no casualties or injuries reported. Work to eliminate the consequences is ongoing.
Kherson oblast
Relying on the information provided by Kherson RMA, at around noon, russian forces attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a UAV. 2 employees of a thermal power plant, aged 46 and 49, were injured. They sustained shrapnel wounds, concussions, blast injuries and closed head injuries.
At around 10am, russian forces shelled the central part of Kherson. An 89-year-old woman who was outside was injured. She sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her leg.
At around 6am, in Mykilske village in Daryivka community, russian forces attacked an elderly man by a drone. The 71-year-old resident sustained a concussion and blast-related injuries.
2 people sought medical assistance after being injured in a russian airstrike on Stepanivka on April 7. A 48-year-old woman and a 9-year-old boy were diagnosed with blast injuries and acute stress reactions.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
A charity event was held at Tursky Lyceum to prepare and send Easter treats for Ukrainian soldiers. The entire school family joined the good cause: teachers, students, technical staff of the lyceum, and caring villagers.
Zakarpattia oblast
A Logistics Center for Vocational Education will soon open in Khust. This is one of the results of cooperation between Zakarpattia and Donetsk RMAs.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The RMA held a meeting with representatives of the British Embassy in Ukraine and Lviv office of the Embassy. They discussed the development of education and support for youth; partnerships between universities; energy efficiency and clean energy.
Lviv oblast
Lviv allocated UAH 45m and 5 vehicles worth UAH 5.5m to support the 80th and 103rd brigades, which are holding the defense in Sumy oblast.
Rivne oblast
Since the beginning of the year, Rivne oblast has received 4 evacuation trains from Donetsk oblast. Over 80 people arrived in the oblast.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil community has received 11 generators from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. These generators will help ensure the uninterrupted operation of educational, cultural and municipal services in the city during periods of power outages.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In Khmelnytskyi, 90 servicemen with IDP status have received approval for housing vouchers. In total, 359 such applications have been submitted.
Chernivtsi oblast
A delegation from the Italian Republic, led by Elena Carnevali, Mayor of the city of Bergamo, visited Chernivtsi within the framework of the International Interdisciplinary Scientific and Practical Conference Renewable Cities: World Experience and Opportunities for Ukraine.
