War in Ukraine today: latest news, 05 May, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 802nd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 5 May, there were 103 tactical engagements. 

The enemy launched a total of 2 missile and 100 air strikes, 57 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, as a result of the terrorist attacks there were wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses, as well as other infrastructure, were destroyed and damaged.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes. No signs of an offensive group formed were found. 

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army maintains its military presence in the areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy conducts subversion, continues shelling of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the concentration of mining operations along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Hremiach (Chernihiv oblast). More than 20 settlements, specifically Yeline, Kliusy, Semenivka, Oleksandrivka, Mykolaivka (Chernihiv oblast), and Tarasivka (Sumy oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks in the vicinities of Synkivka, Pishchane, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast), and Stelmakhivka (Luhansk oblast), where the enemy, using air attacks, attempted to improve its tactical position. The occupiers launched an airstrike on the city of Kharkiv.  The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, specifically Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kotlyarivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 4x attacks in the vicinities of Novosadove and Torske (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements,  specifically Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, and Torske (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 32 attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Verkhnokamianske, Spirne, Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Ivanivske, and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, with air support, attempted to improve its tactical position. The russian army launched airstrikes in the vicinity of Dyliivka (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire,  specifically Hryhorivka, Kalynivka, Klishchiivka, and Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Avdiivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled 24 attacks in the vicinities of Novooleksandrivka, Novopokrovske, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka, and Netailove (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, with air support, made attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions. They launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Prohres, Vovche, and Halytsynivka (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 20 settlements,  specifically Sokil, Novopokrovske, and Umanske (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Novopavlivka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Kostyantynivka, Krasnohorivka, Vodiane and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), where the invaders, using air attacks, made 16 attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. The invaders launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Yevhenivka and Yelyzavetivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, specifically Heorhiivka, Kostiantynivka, and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy, using air attacks, launched 5 assaults on positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast) and Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 15 settlements,  specifically Bilohiria, Robotyne, and Kamianske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kherson, the enemy has not abandoned its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. The invaders, with air support, executed 2 unsuccessful assaults on positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The occupiers fired artillery and mortars at around 20 settlements, specifically Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Novotyahynka, Veletenske, Ponyativka, Inzhenerne, Inhulets, Antonivka, and Sadove (Kherson oblast).

During the day of May 5, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 13 buildups of troops, 4 anti-aircraft missile systems of the russian invaders. 

Ukrainian Rocket Forces hit 1 buildup of troops, 3 radar stations, 2 air defense systems, 2 artillery systems of the enemy.


According to the UN Monitoring Mission, the number of civilian casualties increased by 20% in March. 604 civilians were killed or wounded as a result of enemy strikes. 

Interfax informs that a Ukrainian prisoner of war was sentenced to 18 years in russia. He was accused of serving in the Azov battalion, which was declared a terrorist organisation in russia.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the evening report of the General Staff, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 russian attacks towards  Kupiansk, specifically near Synkivka, Pishchane and Berestove. About 10 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were under artillery and mortar attack.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, reported that Germany will help to partially repair Kharkiv University named after Karazin and support the oblast in restoring the power capacities of thermal power plants and substations. Together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Ukraine Martin Jäger, they visited the University, an underground school and energy facilities in Kharkiv oblast.

On Easter, the invaders launched three attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles in downtown Kharkiv. More than 15 apartment buildings, private houses, cars, an inactive sports complex and office buildings were damaged. Among the 15 people injured in the strike, one woman is in a critical condition and is being identified. Two other men and a woman are being treated in a medical facility in moderate condition. Other victims received medical assistance on the spot.

Kupiansk region was under enemy attack. A private house caught on fire, a 34-year-old civilian man was injured and an 88-year-old woman killed in Monachynivka village of Kindrashivka community. The body of the deceased was removed from the rubble after the fire was extinguished.

Another man was injured as a result of shelling of Kivsharivka. Details are being established.

At 12:39am, Osnovianskyi district of Kharkiv was hit. A house and outbuildings burned down as a result of the Shahed shelling. Six people were injured, including a girl born in 2015, who suffered from an acute stress reaction.

Yesterday at 4:25pm, a workshop of a civilian enterprise, private houses and outbuildings caught on fire as a result of shelling by a S-300 missile in Industrialnyi district. 6 people were injured, all employees of the enterprise. At this hour, the fire is extinguished.

About 17 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday: Synkivka, Strilecha, Hatyshche, Kotliarivka and others. Kharkiv, Slobozhanske, Vesele, Cherkaski Tyshky, Petropavlivka and Ivanivka were hit by airstrikes.

On 5 May, at 12:30am, the invaders shelled Oleksandrivka village by artillery. Five households, houses and outbuildings were damaged. There was no electricity in part of the village as the power grid was damaged.

The day before, at 4:51pm, a house burned down as a result of shelling in Borshchova village of Lyptsi community.

At 4:37pm, a house was burning in Slobozhanske village of Lyptsi community as a result of shelling. A 49-year-old civilian man, who was on the street near the house, was killed.

At 3:15pm, Cherkaski Tyshky village, Kharkiv region, was shelled by the KAB bombs. The shell hit a private house. A gas pipe was damaged and a 75-year-old woman injured.

Yesterday Ukrainian troops repelled 12 attacks towards Kupiansk, including Synkivka, Pishchane and Kyslivka.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 29.13 hectares of mines and destroyed 451 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

The russian army attacked towards Avdiivka the most yesterday as the invaders were attempting to break through the defences twenty times. In total, the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled 73 attacks on the frontline in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

In the morning, russian troops launched five missiles at the territory of Sloviansk thermal power plant.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 5 May is as follows:

Towards Pokrovsk, in Novohrodivka community, 1 house was destroyed and 8 more damaged in Halytsynivka; an enterprise was damaged in Mykhailivka. In Novooleksandrivka of Hrodivka community, an administrative building was destroyed and another damaged. In Kurakhove, 2 houses were damaged. A house and an administrative building were damaged in Ukrainsk of Selydove community. In Pokrovsk, 2 people were killed and a house damaged as a result of rocket attacks.

Towards Kramatorsk, Terny and Yampolivka of Lyman community were shelled. 4 houses were damaged in Tarasivka of Illinivsk community.

Towards Bakhmut, a house was damaged in Toretsk. 2 people were injured, 4 private houses, 3 apartment buildings and an infrastructure facility damaged in Chasiv Yar community.

In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 19 times yesterday. 120 people, including 8 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russians killed 3 civilians: 2 in Pokrovsk and 1 in Druzhkivka. Two more people were injured in the oblast.

Luhansk oblast

On the eve of Easter, the Ukrainian military delivered Easter cakes to every resident of our de-occupied villages. Krasnorichensk military administration were delivered in Nevske and Novoliubivka.

However, the security situation on the contact line remains difficult. The invaders attacked near Stelmakhivka, in Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest.

The enemy attacked Nevske, Makiivka, Kuzemivka and Stelmakhivka by artillery and mortars.

20 russian UAVs targeted near Nevske, Hrekivka and Kuzemivka.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that a federal law came into force in russia that exempts a person from criminal liability if he or she signs a contract and goes to war in Ukraine. It is possible to avoid punishment at the investigation stage and even in the courtroom.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the statistics provided by Kyiv City Council, more than 9,500 residents have suffered disabilities as a result of the war. Therefore, city officials emphasize that Kyiv is focusing on creating an environment accessible to all people in all spheres of life. The city is getting rid of obstacles that make it difficult or impossible for people with disabilities, whose number in the capital is over 150,000, to access facilities and services.

Petro Olenych, Head of Kyiv’s digital transformation, announced that Kyiv is registering startups for the Sustainable City acceleration program. Innovative solutions to the problems caused by infrastructure and building destruction are being sought by young people, entrepreneurs, and IT developers. So far, 20 teams have applied. The competition will take place on 26-27 June, 2024.

In Nova Buda village of Kyiv oblast, Ukrainian soldier Oleksii Zinchenko was buried. He was killed on 28 April in Donetsk oblast near Vodiane village protecting military positions from occupiers. He saved the lives of his fellow soldiers.

Kyiv City Council also announced a survey on renaming 19 toponyms as part of the process of de-russification and decommunization of streets. The new names will replace “enemy narratives” and separate the boundary between the cultural and historical heritage of Ukraine and the aggressor countries.

In Kyiv oblast, the works of Ukrainian artists were presented and the catalogue of the VII Open Art Plein Air “Painted Irpin” named after Volodymyr Sydoruk was published. According to Irpin City Council, the 2023 plein air was held under the slogan “Irpin: Art of Revival” because this city, which defeated the enemy, suffered heavy losses, but is actively reviving and restoring the best cultural and artistic projects.

Kyiv became one of the winners of this year’s Innovations in Politics award. Petro Olenych, Head of the city’s digital transformation, notes that Kyiv Digital app’s condominium service was recognized in the Democratic Technologies nomination for the development and implementation of e-democracy at the local level. This year, more than 300 projects from around the world were submitted for the award.

Zhytomyr oblast

The RMA reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 120,000 IDPs resided in Zhytomyr oblast. Today, 58,400 IDPs live in the territorial communities, including 3, 000 people with disabilities and 16,000 children.

In Khoroshev, 5 memorial plaques to military graduates were unveiled on the facade of Lyceum No. 2: Volodymyr Korzun, Gennadiy Semeniy, Oleksandr Yakovenko, Oleksandr Lytvynchuk and Orest Serhiyenko. All of them defended Ukraine and gave their lives for the country.

On 3 May, the Regional Philharmonic in Zhytomyr hosted a charity concert “Thorny Path to Victory” with the participation of 34-year-old military man from Mykolaiv oblast Maksym Manuilov, a sniper with the call sign “Chopin.” The concert raised more than UAH 20,000 for the 80th separate air assault brigade. 

Sumy oblast

The RMA reported that at night russians used long-range multiple rocket launchers in Sumy oblast. Preliminary, there were no casualties.

During the night, the enemy fired 4 times at border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. There were 11 attacks from mortars and multiple rocket launchers, and the enemy also fired from a large-caliber machine gun. Khotin, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhyne, and Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled.

Over the past day, the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 41 times. There were 214 explosions, including attacks with mortars, rocket and cannon artillery, FPV drones, grenade launchers, and the launch of unguided aerial missiles from a helicopter. The shelling affected 13 communities in the region, specifically Mykolaiivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Shalyhyne, Esman, Druzhbivka, Seredyna-Buda, and Znob-Novhorodske.

Regional police informed that 7 private households, a multi-storey building and a car were damaged on 4 may in Velyka Pysarivka and the town of Druzhba as a result of the shelling by russia. The State Emergency Service noted that rescuers were extinguishing a fire that started after shelling in Shostka region.

The North OPerational Command informs that a local resident was injured and another was poisoned by carbon monoxide as a result of the shelling of Druzhba from a multiple rocket launcher. Moreover, 1 multi-storey building and 2 private households were damaged.

Chernihiv oblast

Over the past day, russian troops fired 7 times on the territory of two border communities in Chernihiv oblast – Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka.

Residents of Slobidka and Loska villages in Novhorod-Siverskyi community sent more than a hundred homemade Easter cakes to the frontline. Local women bake and deliver Easter cakes to the front line every Easter, and throughout the year they prepare other homemade dishes for the soldiers. 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that overnight, some enemy Shaheds were destroyed over the region. 10 of them were shot down by the Air Defence Forces in Dnipro region and one more in Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol regions. Due to the attack, infrastructure facilities in Dnipro were damaged. Several fires broke out. A high-rise building was also damaged. A high-rise building, 2 cars and a shop in Slobozhanske community were damaged. The russians also hit Nikopol region, launching  various types of attack drones 5 times and firing twice with artillery. 2 enterprises, a recreational facility and a private house were damaged in Nikopol. 

During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region 7 times. 

In the morning, Pokrovsk community was shelled with artillery and the occupiers launched all other attacks on Nikopol.

A kindergarten, a lyceum, a social institution, 2 high-rise buildings, a private house, 2 outbuildings, 3 cars and 3 power lines were damaged.

In Pavlohrad, Dnipro oblast, a rally was organized to mark Azov regiment’s 10th anniversary. About 40 people walked more than 3 kilometers through the city.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Vinnytsia oblast, 48 primary medical facilities provide psychological support to children and adults free of charge.

Poltava oblast

Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA, reported that the enemy hit civilian infrastructure, damaging an elevator in Poltava community.

Cherkasy oblast

At the request of one of the military units of the National Guard of Ukraine, in which a resident of Katerynopil serves, a DJI Mavic ZT drone was transferred. It was purchased at the local community’s budget’s expense. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that on 3 May, the occupiers launched 345 attacks in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 10 settlements came under enemy attack.

The enemy conducted 3 airstrikes on Orikhiv and Robotyne. 148 drones of various modifications attacked Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Bilohirya and Novodarivka. 9 MLRS strikes hit Huliaipole, Levadne and Robotyne.

185 artillery shelling attacks targeted Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Novodarivka, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Levadne, Malynivka, Verkhnia Tersa and Pavlivka. 6 reports of residential destruction were received, with no civilian casualties reported.

The East Air Command destroyed a russian ZALA reconnaissance UAV in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

A fire broke out in Orikhiv, Polohy region, as a result of enemy shelling. Firefighters extinguished the fire in an unused building and the roof of a car wash, covering 140 sq m area. No casualties were reported.

According to the press service of the State Emergency Service in Zaporizhzhia oblast, on 4 May, the State Emergency Service sappers destroyed 20 units of cumulative-fragmentation cassette elements and one grenade launcher shot discovered in the settlements of Polohy region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that modern electronic warfare equipment was procured in response to the Ukrainian defenders’ request. They were handed over to the troops fighting in Zaporizhzhia oblast. With the help of these electronic warfare means, Ukrainian defenders destroy russian drones. Some devices are used stationary, allowing Ukrainian defenders to remain in their positions safely.

The Ministry of Defence of Great Britain announced on 5 May that russia is preparing for the first draft in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast. The Kremlin aims to expand its influence in the captured territories of Ukraine. According to the British intelligence, a moscow protege in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia oblast has signed a so-called “decree” on the preparation of necessary infrastructure and measures for conscription into military service in the occupied areas. This is the first draft that occupiers will conduct in the occupation.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv RMA reported that on 4 May, russian forces shelled Ochakiv community 3 times by artillery. There were no casualties reported.

According to the press service of the Nibulon company, one of the largest agricultural companies in Mykolaiv received €12.8m from the export investment fund of Denmark on 4 May. This funding will be utilised to procure 74 units of modern agricultural equipment.

Odesa oblast

According to the Armed Forces of Southern Ukraine, on 4 May, russian occupiers launched cruise missiles against Odesa, injuring 4 people. The attack damaged an administrative building, enterprise premises, private residential houses, a religious institution building and a cellular communication tower. 

In Odesa, on 17-18 May, a free training session “From Business Idea to Practical Results: Step-by-Step Actions for Starting Your Own Business” will be held. The event is open to internally displaced persons, entrepreneurs, and individuals affected by the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine. The project is being implemented with the support of UNHCR Ukraine – the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.

Kherson oblast

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 5 May, at 10am, russian forces conducted 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions in Kherson oblast. On 4 May, the occupiers attacked Antonivka, Ponyativka, Stanislav, Pridniprovsk, Inhulets, Tomyna Balka, Inzhenerne, Sadove, Beryslav and Mykhailivka in Kherson oblast. 1 person was injured and 2 high-rise buildings, a private house, an educational institution and a private vehicle damaged.

At night, a russian Shahed combat drone was shot down in Kherson oblast. It was one of 23 drones shot down across Ukraine. Apart from Kherson, enemy drones were downed in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv oblasts. In total, the russian army launched 24 drones from Kursk oblast of Russia and Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea. Anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were involved in their destruction.

According to Kherson RMA, 14 specialised vehicles for Ukrainian cities were officially handed over in the capital. Peter Van De Velde, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine, participated in the event. Medical transport will go from Kyiv to Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. In Kherson oblast, the vehicles will be delivered to one of the medical facilities. The assistance was provided within the framework of the Ukraine Mission of Ihor Vitenko social project, with the involvement of the Belgian volunteer community. Organisational support was provided by the NGO Council for Environmental Safety and the Ukrainian Peace Council.

Hryhorii Yanchenko, better known as volunteer Uncle Hrisha from Kherson, is raising funds for Ukrainian soldiers. The 77-year-old man in a wheelchair has been travelling to various cities for almost 6 months with one goal: the fastest victory for Ukraine. He marks all the cities he visits on the national flag. This blue and yellow flag is a constant attribute of the wheelchair he moves on. The volunteer’s fundraising to combat the full-scale invasion has already crossed the UAH 3m mark. He delivers drones, starlinks, generators, screws, film, insulation, and everything else needed on the front lines to Ukrainian defenders.

FPV drones delivered Easter cakes: soldiers of the 126th Brigade sent festive pastries to their comrades-in-arms in Krynytsia on the left bank of Kherson oblast. Currently, this is the only way to convey the holiday spirit to the guys who are constantly under attack. Shells for eliminating occupiers were added to the Easter basket.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent 3 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters, 2 DJI Mavic 3 Thermal quadcopters, 30 FPV drones and 3 EcoFlow Delta charging stations to the 2nd Mortar Battery of the 3rd Mechanised Battalion of the A1008 Military Unit.

Zakarpattia oblast

Tetiana Manko and Ralf Muhlen, founders of the Ukraine-Saarlend-Berlin e.V CF, organised assistance for the purchase of an elevator for pupils and visitors of the Virgin Mary Medical Rehabilitation Center. In order to raise over €20,000, patrons organised a festival in Berlin, and also involved Via Blumenfisch gGmbH from Berlin and Ferraro Group from Saarlend companies.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Over 80 children from front-line oblasts visited Prykarpattia for rehabilitation during the week. These are students from Donetsk oblast, who have to live under constant shelling. For several weeks, children will be able to rest and recover in a sanatorium in the Carpathians. They will also have the opportunity to fully study, all the conditions for this are provided. With the support of international partners and with the participation of students of Carpathian universities, interesting leisure activities have been developed for children of all ages.

The oblast sent an ambulance for the evacuation of military personnel during combat missions and a vehicle for the transportation of personnel to the Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun Battalion, which stands on the defence of the sky above Prykarpattia and defends it from enemy drones. This became possible with the support of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council and the Turbot CF.

Lviv oblast

From the beginning of 2024, Lviv RMA has allocated over UAH 30m to units of the Western Operational Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine within the framework of the Safe Lviv Oblast program. Some of these funds have already been allocated to the purchase of modern means of communication. In the future, the priority direction is the provision of aerial reconnaissance forces with drones and means of radio-electronic warfare.

Over 2,000 appeals were considered at the Coordination Center in Lviv oblast in April. The number of requests for psychological support continues to increase, especially among military personnel and children.

For her birthday, fifth-grader Andriana Kindratska from the village of Sokoliv received money and purchased cotton balls and beeswax to start making lighters. Such products can burn up to 6-7 min to warm the military on the front line, who can make tea, light a stove or a bonfire. As of today, Andriana has produced 5,247 lighters. Her parents help the young volunteer to deliver them to the defenders. The girl gave some of them to the siblings of her uncle Ihor Kindratskyi, who was killed on 5 September 2023, near the village of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade of Lyceum №28 in honour of Taras Davidiuk. The soldier was killed on 3 November 2023. The installation of memorial plaques to the fallen defenders of Ukraine at general secondary education institutions in Rivne community takes place in accordance with the Rivne – City of Heroes program. Implemented at the expense of taxpayers.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil oblast sent 1,200 books to Chornobaivka community. As part of the all-Ukrainian project – Free People Read in Ukrainian! –  educational, cultural and museum institutions of the oblast collected books for the frontline and liberated oblasts. The project was initiated on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’ birthday to increase social activity, awareness of citizens and popularize the Ukrainian language.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

On the Easter eve, in Khmelnytskyi, a traditional Easter Basket campaign was held. The city handed over 500 holiday packages with fruit, Easter cakes and goodies to wounded soldiers who are being treated in community medical facilities. Over 600 Easter baskets were handed over to families of fallen Heroes, as well as those who were missing or in war captivity.

Chernivtsi oblast

Hlyboka community allocated almost UAH 1,5m to help the military in the first quarter of 2024. UAH 1m was provided by the community to purchase drones and accessories for them. Financial assistance was also provided to purchase a Mavic 3 quadcopter to the A2582 Military Unit.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The European Commission launched an investigation into Facebook and Instagram due to the russian federation’s insufficient countering of disinformation. The European Commission suspects Facebook and Instagram of not complying with the requirements to limit the spread of false information and coordinated foreign manipulation under the content moderation law of the Digital Services Act in force in the EU. According to the European Commission, Facebook and Instagram may also not sufficiently limit the spread of misleading advertising, disinformation campaigns and coordinated bot farms. According to the notification, in the event of violations, the company may be fined up to 6% of annual revenue.

According to the results of the meeting of G7 energy ministers in the Italian city of Turin, countries agreed on multilateral efforts aimed at creating a diversified fuel supply chain free from russian influence. Ministers also committed to promoting fusion as a future energy source alongside regulatory efforts.

In Poland, the report of the Center for Documentation of Russian Crimes in Ukraine named after Rafal Lemkin about russian atrocities against Ukrainian women. Since the beginning of the russian invasion in 2014 and until today, thousands of Ukrainian women have suffered from sexual violence by the russian occupation forces.

In Estonia, it was proposed to block the Baltic Sea for russia. According to Martin Herem, Commander of the Armed Forces of Estonia, after that, it becomes very unlikely for the aggressor to deploy ship and air defence in the Baltic Sea, which, in turn, will allow air and sea support from allies.

Global impact of russian aggression 

According to the Financial Review, russia is preparing sabotage, in particular, explosions and arson on the territory of Europe. Acts of sabotage are already taking place. In particular, there were questions about the as-yet-unexplained explosion at the BAE Systems ammunition plant in Wales, which supplies shells used by Ukraine. On Friday, a massive fire broke out at a plant in Berlin owned by the arms company Diehl, which also supplies weapons to Ukraine.
