Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:
The Defense Forces are taking measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory.
Since the beginning of this day, there have been 61 combat engagements.
Border communities have come under enemy artillery fire, including Khrinivka, Arkhypivka, and Klyusy in Chernihiv region; Velyka Pysarivka, Novodmytrivka, Popivka, Maryine, and Brusky in Sumy region. The settlement of Khliborob in Sumy region was targeted by an airstrike.
On the Northern-Slobozhanske and Kursk directions, there have been seven combat clashes since the beginning of the day, two of which are ongoing. Additionally, the enemy carried out 11 airstrikes, dropping 22 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 131 shellings of our positions and settlements, including 13 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanske direction, the Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks. The enemy is attempting to advance near Vovchansk and Fyholivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian occupiers twice attempted to break through our defenses near the settlements of Stepova Novoselivka and Zahryzove.
In the Lyman direction, the invading army carried out 11 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian units near Ol’hivka, Novyi Myr, Hlushchenkove, Torske, Serebrianka, Hryhorivka, and towards Cherneshchyna, Serednie, and Shandryholove. Four combat clashes are still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy conducted seven assault operations in the areas of Toretsk, Dyliivka, and Shcherbynivka. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders made 24 attempts to push our defenders from their positions near the settlements of Popiv Yar, Volodymyrivka, Boikivka, Suvorove, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Mykolaivka, Rodynske, Lysivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Novoukrainka, Oleksiivka, and towards Novopavlivka. The Defense Forces are holding back the pressure and have repelled 20 enemy attacks. Four engagements are ongoing.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted to breach our defenses near Piddubne, Voskresenka, Shevchenko, Temyrivka, and towards Ivanivka. The Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks, while three more are ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy troops attacked twice toward Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovske direction, the aggressor’s aviation conducted an airstrike near Ol’hivka.
In the Siversk, Kramatorsk, Huliaipole, and Prydniprovske directions, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In other directions — no significant changes.
Ukraine has allowed remote inspections of destroyed housing in combat zones under the “eVidnovlennia” (eRecovery) program.
This decision will enable people who lost their homes in communities under constant shelling to receive compensation. As on-site inspections are difficult due to security risks, special commissions will be allowed to conduct remote inspections using:
- Satellite images
- Drone footage
- Photos and videos taken by the homeowner with a mobile phone
The images must meet strict requirements: they must be color, clear, and defect-free; include date, time, and geolocation; and show identifying features of the object (such as address plates, house numbers, signs), etc.
Ukrzaliznytsia has presented an experimental barrier-free railcar for passengers using wheelchairs.
It is emphasized that this railcar is experimental and will be available upon request from organizations via the railway’s website or app. The railcar was completely redesigned for passengers in wheelchairs. Specifically, four compartments were enlarged — each designed to accommodate 2 passengers with disabilities and 2 companions.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline Situation
Over the past day, 151 combat engagements were recorded.
In the Southern-Slobozhanske direction, the enemy made nine attempts to break through the defensive lines of our defenders near Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, Fyholivka, and towards Kozacha Lopan, Hoptivka, and Kolodiazne.
In the Kupiansk direction, there were nine enemy attacks yesterday. Our defenders repelled enemy assaults near the settlements of Holubivka, Zahryzove, and Lozova.
Shelling
During the past day, six settlements in the Kharkiv region came under enemy fire.
▪️ As a result of the shelling, 10 people were injured, including 2 children. Three people were killed.
In Lozova, a 55-year-old man was killed; 10 people were injured, including a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. In the village of Lyman of the Vovchansk community, a 49-year-old man and a woman were killed.
The enemy massively shelled Lozova from 2:45 a.m. to 4:40 a.m.
According to preliminary information, the Russian army attacked the city with 33 UAVs.
Railway infrastructure was damaged. The roofs of the depot and station caught fire.
A duty mechanic from one of the units was killed. Among the 10 injured, 4 were railway workers who were hospitalized in mild to moderate condition. Another 5 people, including 2 children, suffered from acute stress reactions, and one man was injured by glass shards.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons against Kharkiv region:

Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:
▪️ In Kharkiv district: a residential house and power lines in Pruidianka, a private house in Rohan, and an unfinished house in Tsyrkuny were damaged.
▪️ In Chuhuiv district: a private house in Losivka was damaged.

In the Kupiansk direction, 5,525 people still remain, including 1,089 in the city of Kupiansk.
In the Borivska community, there are 1,659 people.
Donetsk oblast
Shelling
Earlier, strikes occurred in eight settlements: the cities of Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, the urban-type settlement of Drobysheve, and the villages of Bilokuzmynivka, Ivanopillia, and Illinivka.
▪️ 41 civilian object was damaged, including 34 residential buildings.
▪️ In Dobropillia, the Russians dropped two KAB-250 aerial bombs, injuring a civilian and damaging nine apartment buildings and a hospital.
▪️ Kostiantynivka was attacked with artillery and an FPV drone — one person was injured; two apartment buildings, two private homes, and an educational institution were damaged.
▪️ In Illinivka, one person was injured. A private house and garage were damaged by artillery shelling.
▪️ In Ivanopillia, the occupiers dropped two KAB-250 bombs, damaging 13 private homes.
▪️ In Kramatorsk, a Molniya-2 UAV damaged an apartment building and two civilian vehicles.
▪️ In Lyman and Bilokuzmynivka, one private house was damaged in each location.
▪️ Drobysheve came under Tornado-S MLRS fire — four private houses were damaged.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The RMA reported that in Borodianka, major repairs of a two-storey apartment building at 1 Myru Street, which was damaged by russian armed aggression, are coming to an end. The blast waves partially destroyed the carrying and enclosing structures, as well as the roof.
The Sviatoshynskyi District Administration met with affected Kyiv residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed as a result of the russian attack on the night of 31 July. There is currently no final decision regarding the segment of the building at 2-A Kuchera Street, which suffered the most damage. Two options are being considered: complete reconstruction or cutting out the destroyed part with subsequent resettlement of residents. According to the head of the district, Georgy Zantaraia, a total of 30 houses and 5 educational institutions were damaged in the Sviatoshynsky district as a result of shelling on the night of 31 July.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the Svidok platform is collecting testimonies about the massive strike on Kyiv on 31 July, which resulted in deaths and injuries. Eyewitnesses are asked to describe what they saw and heard during the attack, how they feel afterwards, and any destroyed or damaged property. The facts of the war crime, along with attached photos and videos, will be forwarded to the International Criminal Court and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

In the village of Ivankovychi, Obukhiv district, people paid their last respects to teacher Nataliia Haiova, her two sons Vladyslav and Roman, and her brother Oleksandr. Their bodies were pulled from the rubble of a building in the Svyatoshyn district of Kyiv on 31 July after a massive attack by the russian federation. Natalia was a preschool teacher at the Ivankovychi Lyceum. She was 47 years old.
Zhytomyr oblast
The State Environmental Inspection of the Polissya District reported that the shelling of the Zhytomyr oblast on 9 July caused damage to the environment amounting to over 279 million hryvnias. The State Environmental Inspection calculated the damage caused by uncontrolled emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere and land contamination with debris from the shelling of the Novohuyvynska and Stanyshivska communities. The information will be entered into the register of war crimes committed by russia against the environment as part of criminal proceedings under Articles 441 ‘Ecocide’ and 438 ‘Violation of the laws and customs of war’.
In the village of Prystanchne in the Chopovychi community, local residents, including veterans, military personnel and volunteers, are jointly setting up a veterans’ space. Part of a former school has been converted into premises for this purpose. According to Chopovychi village head Mykhailo Filonenko, more than 50 veterans are registered in the community.
Sumy oblast
The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported that during a special operation towards Sumy, fighters of ‘Timur Special Unit’ of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine conducted a raid behind russian lines, cleared enemy positions, and secured their foothold. They managed to disrupt the supply of food and ammunition to the russian grouping and halt its advance. Preliminary estimates indicate at least 334 enemy personnel killed and over 550 wounded.
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, said that at around 10am on 5 August, the russian army launched a missile strike on Pishchanske Starostat. Two fatalities have been confirmed. The missile hit an agricultural enterprise.
According to the Regional Military Administration, as a result of a hostile attack in Sumy region, part of Sumy community’s consumers were temporarily left without electricity. Specialists are already working on restoration efforts. Some critical infrastructure facilities are being switched to backup power.
Serhii Minakov, Head of Esman community, stated that at 4am on 5 August, russian forces struck Esman. A UAV hit a vegetable garden, and the blast wave damaged three nearby houses.
According to Liudmyla Biriukova, Head of Velyka Pysarivka community, on the morning of 5 August, a russian strike damaged monuments to Ukraine’s defenders in Velyka Pysarivka.
The Regional Military Administration reported that between the morning of 4 August and the morning of 5 August, russian forces carried out 110 attacks on 36 settlements across 13 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (45 strikes), dropped VOG grenades from UAVs (25 strikes), and also launched attacks by FPV-drones and other UAVs. In Sumy oblast, a non-residential building in Mykolaivka settlement community was damaged as a result of the shelling.
Over the past 24 hours, 19 people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in coordination with units of the State Emergency Service, National Police, and civil society organizations.
In Sumy oblast, Ukrainian Defence Forces discovered a downed enemy strike UAV equipped with cassettes containing PTM-3 anti-tank mines mounted under its wings. This allows the enemy to remotely mine roads, agricultural land, and other areas. The PTM-3 mine, small in size and housed in a plastic casing, features a magnetic detonator that reacts to nearby or passing vehicles.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that over the course of 4 August, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. A total of 43 strikes were recorded. The enemy shelled by mortars (2 explosions) and tube artillery (3 explosions), launched unguided aerial rockets (15 explosions), deployed FPV-drones (15 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (13 explosions).
According to the Regional Military Administration, rehabilitation services are now available at 14 healthcare facilities across the oblast. In Chernihiv, a modern RECOVERY rehabilitation unit has been launched with support from charitable organizations — over 400 patients have already undergone treatment. A rehabilitation unit has also been established at the regional children’s home ‘Nadiia’ in Pryluky. Six medical institutions will pilot a Ministry of Health project to create outpatient rehabilitation departments.
Major repairs have been completed at the municipal institution ‘Chernihiv Lyceum’, which sustained damage during active hostilities in the city in March 2022. The total cost of the works amounted to UAH 22.3m. The funds were used to insulate the facade and base of the academic building, install paving and the main entrance, and equip the drainage system with electric heating.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Air defence systems were active in the oblast. Ukrainian defenders destroyed 3 enemy UAVs.
In the evening and the following morning, the occupiers continued shelling Nikopol region. They targeted the regional centre and Pokrov community by drones, while Marhanets came under MLRS attack. Aldo, Synelnykove region was attacked. In Malomykhailivka community, a vehicle was damaged as a result of a drone strike.
During the day, air defence forces engaged enemy targets and shot down another UAV. In total, the occupiers launched around 20 attacks on Nikopol region, targeting the regional centre, Marhanets, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrov communities by drones and artillery. 3 people were injured – women aged 47 and 72 and a 38-year-old man. All received the necessary medical assistance. Several fires broke out and 7 private houses, a non-operational building, a power line and a gas pipeline were damaged. According to updated information, an enterprise was damaged during a morning strike on Nikopol. The enemy attacked Synelnykove region, targeting Mezhova, Velykomykhailivka and Slovianka communities. A 64-year-old man was injured. A private house, a vehicle, critical infrastructure and power lines were damaged.
Kirovohrad oblast
In Kropyvnytskyi, residents paid tribute to 52-year-old Serhii Skorokhod, who was killed on 31 July 2025 during a russian drone attack in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.
In Nova Praha, Oleksandriia region, a funeral was held for Vitalii Burdiuh, born in 1991, who died on 31 July as a result of a mortar strike.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava, locals paid tribute to Dmytro Lehar, a serviceman killed on 26 July 2025 during a russian artillery strike while on assignment in Kursk oblast, russia.
2 more soldiers from the oblast were confirmed killed in action: Ihor Volyk from Hrebinka community, who killed on 3 July 2025 during a combat mission near Ridkodub, Donetsk oblast; Vitalii Kunin from Novosanzhary community, who killed on 30 July 2025 from russian artillery attack near Rubizhne, Kharkiv oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, stated that Cherkasy oblast sent another batch of aid to the 118th Brigade – 100 FPV drones, half of which are equipped with thermal imaging cameras.
In Helmiaziv, a living corridor was formed to honour the memory of Denys Yankovskyi, a fallen serviceman who had been considered missing since 16 November 2024, when he died in Donetsk oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that 2 men, aged 59 and 53, were killed in Stepnohirsk community as a result of an FPV drone strike on a house.
According to the General Staff, Defence Forces repelled 2 enemy attacks in Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 4 August, 3 people were killed and 4 injured as a result of russian attacks. In total, the russian military launched 431 strikes across the oblast, including 11 airstrikes on Malokaterynivka, Zarychne, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Uspenivka and Bilohiria.
Mykolaiv oblast
On 4 August, russian forces launched 5 FPV drone attacks on Kutsurub community. A private house caught fire in Dniprovske village. There were no casualties reported.
Odesa oblast
The Air Command South confirmed that overnight, russian forces launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile from temporarily occupied Crimea, targeting Odesa oblast.
Kherson oblast
Yaroslav Shanko, Head of the CMA, reported that s of 6pm, 334 people, including 15 children and 44 persons with limited mobility, were evacuated from Korabel in Kherson oblast. Since the beginning of evacuation efforts, 754 residents have been evacuated from the red zone.

The CMA informed that russian drones attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, injuring 2 men aged 47 and 62. Both sustained blast injuries and are receiving medical assistance.
Another drone strike in Dniprovskyi district injured a man with abdominal wounds, a broken arm and shrapnel injuries.
Near Sadove, a 40-year-old man was injured in a drone attack and was hospitalised.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that due to recent strikes on Korabel, around 50 high-rise buildings and 150 private houses remain without gas supply. The damage to the gas pipeline is severe and repair timelines are currently unknown.
The RMA informed that a 56-year-old man was hospitalised with a blast injury and shrapnel wound to the chest.
Ukrainian Defence Forces reported that the number of russian airstrikes and drone attacks in the south has increased. However, on 4 August, Defence Forces repelled 5 attacks in Prydniprovske region.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, stated that on 4 August, russian forces shelled 37 settlements in Kherson oblast. 2 people were killed and 7 injured, including a child. Damage was reported to 5 high-rise buildings, 8 private houses, a grain storage facility and vehicles.
Based on the information provided by the CMA, a 17-year-old resident of Korabelnyi district of Kherson sought medical help after being injured in a russian drone strike on 3 August. He sustained a blast injury and a closed head injury. A 35-year-old man required treatment for blast trauma and concussion after an earlier strike in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson.

Volyn oblast

Zakarpattia oblast
An intensive psychological recovery program for children and wives of fallen defenders from Uzhhorod was held at the Unicorn private stable. The next event was organized by employees of the Social Policy Department of Uzhhorod City Council.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
A charity event Sports for All was held in one of the courtyards of Ivano-Frankivsk. They wove nets, organized a fair and donated to defenders.
Lviv oblast
Sosnivskyi People’s House of Sheptytskyi community sent an FPV drone to the 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the 63rd Battalion.
Rivne oblast
8 vehicles have been sent to the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine by Rivne RMA since the beginning of the year. Of these, 1 truck and 2 minibuses. All vehicles were confiscated as state revenue from violators of customs legislation and as part of criminal proceedings.
Ternopil oblast
31 servicemen from Ternopil community received funds to purchase ammunition and equipment. Since the beginning of 2025, 2,455 Ternopil defenders have already received such assistance.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
The Defense Forces received 14 MATRICE 4T UAVs worth over UAH 2.5m from Khmelnytskyi community.
Chernivtsi oblast
Klishkovets and Mamayev communities have received modern equipment for IT workshops thanks to the Community Consolidation for Sustainable Economic Growth (ConCom4EG) project, which is implemented with the support of the EU within the framework of the Mayors for Economic Growth Initiative. Thanks to new technologies, students will be able to create robots, work with sensors and 3D printing, study programming, automation, electronics and solar energy.
