The invaders do not stop striking at border settlements. Budky, Znob-Trubchevska, Bezsalivka in Sumy oblast were affected by enemy artillery fire. The enemy launched an airstrike on Iskryvshchyna.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy launched two airstrikes, dropped two aerial bombs, and also carried out 37 shelling attacks.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions six times in the areas of Vovchansk, Hrabovske, Starytsia, Prylipka and toward Izbytske on the Southern-Slobozhanskyi axis, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. As of 22:00, two clashes were still ongoing.
Russian troops also carried out two attacks near Petropavlivka and toward Kuryllivka on the Kupiansk axis, with one battle continuing.
Over the past day, 98 combat engagements were recorded.
Towards Pivdenna Sloboda, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions three times near Vovchansk and Starytsia.
No offensive actions by the enemy were recorded towards Kupiansk.
On the Southern front, Lana “Sati” Chornohorska — a service member of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army and drone operator, journalist, activist and artist who worked with the “Lyuk” media outlet and called Kharkiv her city — was killed.

During the years of Russia’s armed aggression, 73 State Emergency Service officers in the region were wounded while performing their duties, and 12 rescuers were killed.
According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Police Petro Tokar 383 people — including seven children — were killed as a result of Russian strikes on Kharkiv Oblast over 2025. Another 2,634 people were injured, russian forces carried out more than 5.5 thousand strikes on the region, destroying or damaging 9.5 thousand facilities.
According to Kharkiv Region Prosecutor General Amil Omarov. the enemy struck a five-storey residential building in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi District with Iskander missiles.
The body of a 3-year-old boy was recovered from under the rubble. His mother is considered missing. Around 300 municipal workers and 80 units of equipment, as well as canine teams from the State Emergency Service and the Red Cross, were involved in search-and-rescue operations, said Mayor Ihor Terekhov at the site.
At least 28 people were injured, including a 6-month-old child. A five-storey building was destroyed, as well as part of the entrance section of a four-storey apartment block. Windows and facades of nearby buildings were damaged, power lines and contact networks were torn down, and traffic lights were damaged.
Thirteen cars were damaged. As of 19:00 on January 2, at least 27 buildings in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts had been damaged by the explosions.

Eighty volunteers are helping to deal with the aftermath of the explosion in the center of Kharkiv, which occurred during the day on January 2. They are searching for people under the rubble, sealing the damaged buildings, and providing hot meals to participants in the search and rescue operation, reported Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Regional Military Administration.

Over the past 24 hours, the city of Kharkiv and seven settlements in the Kharkiv region have come under enemy attack.
As a result of the shelling, two people were injured.
In the village of Lisne, Malodanylivka community, a 44-year-old woman was injured; in the town of Velykyi Burluk, an 84-year-old woman was injured.
The enemy attacked the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv with three UAVs.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons against the Kharkiv region:

▪️ in the Kharkiv district, a private house and an ecopark were damaged (Lisne village);
▪️ in the Chuhuiv district, a vehicle was damaged (Buhaivka village), as well as a private house, a shop, power lines, and two vehicles (city of Chuhuiv).
Chornohlazivka of the Zolochiv community came under UAV attack at around 10:00 p.m. on January 1, reported Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the Settlement Military Administration. As a result of the strike, a residential house, outbuildings, and power networks were damaged.
Since the start of its operation, 16,057 people have been registered at the transit evacuation point in Lozova.
A motor rally in memory of fallen volunteer Viacheslav Ilchenko was held in Kharkiv by his family and friends from the volunteer community. About 40 vehicles joined the procession. Viacheslav Ilchenko was killed on Christmas Day, December 25, during the evacuation of civilians in the Donetsk region when a Russian drone struck his vehicle. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Viacheslav evacuated more than 1,500 people from combat zones.

Donetsk oblast
The Russian army launched 15 attacks in the Lyman direction over the past day. The occupiers assaulted areas near Novovodiane, Myrne, Kolodiazi, Zarichne, Novoiehorivka, Novoselivka, and Yampil, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
Russian troops attempted to advance deeper into Ukrainian positions toward Sviatohirsk and Lyman but were unsuccessful. After the New Year, the intensity of the occupiers’ actions has decreased, said Mykyta Suhlobov, an officer of the “Phoenix” unit.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck Russian equipment near Pokrovsk, which Russian troops had been amassing for assaults on the northern part of the city and the settlement of Hryshyne. Strikes on buggies, motorcycles, and vehicles were carried out, among other means, using HIMARS systems, the 7th Air Assault Corps reported.
As the line of contact moved closer to Sloviansk, the Russian army began shelling the city more frequently with guided bombs during the daytime rather than at night. The community is also being attacked by drones with varying warhead sizes, said Vadym Liakh, Head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration.
In the morning, the Russian army attacked Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region twice with drones. The first strike hit an evacuation vehicle of the City Military Administration carrying eight people; three civilians were injured, said administration head Horbunov. Later, Russian forces struck a civilian woman walking in Kostiantynivka with a drone—she was killed. One more person was injured in Kostiantynivka due to Russian shelling with tube artillery, Horbunov reported. The injured man was outside in the city at the time. Additionally, a resident of the Kostiantynivka community who had been wounded by an FPV drone of the Russian army several days earlier died in hospital.
On the evening of January 1 and the morning of January 2, the Russian army attacked Kramatorsk with drones. Russian forces shelled an enterprise and the private residential sector; there were no injuries or fatalities, the city council reported.
On January 1, police recorded 1,519 enemy strikes along the front line and against residential areas.
Eight settlements came under fire: the cities of Bilozerske, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Sloviansk; the towns of Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka and Sviatohorivka; and the villages of Dmytrivka and Novopryhozhe.
Seventeen civilian objects were damaged, including 11 residential houses.
In Druzhkivka, Russians killed a civilian with an FPV drone strike and wounded another person. A civilian vehicle was damaged.
One person was wounded in Kostiantynivka as a result of an enemy FPV drone strike.
Russian forces struck Sloviansk with two UAVs—Granat-4 and Geran-2. One apartment building and four private houses, a café, and a civilian vehicle were damaged.
Russia dropped a KAB-250 bomb on Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, damaging a private house.
In Sviatohorivka of the Pokrovsk district, five private homes were damaged.
Luhansk oblast
According to AFU, towards Lyman russian forces carried out 15 assault actions, attempting to advance near seven settlements. The enemy pushed towards Novovodiane and attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses near Novoyehorivka. A total of 15 mortar attacks and nine uses of unmanned aerial systems were recorded.
According to russian directives, the protection of critical infrastructure facilities, including oil depots in the temporarily occupied territories, has been reassigned to reservists. The relevant document entered into force on December 30 and provides for six-month special training assemblies for members of the mobilization reserve, with minimal financial compensation for unemployed participants.
Despite the launch of a local mobile network in Sievierodonetsk in December, residents still face difficulties accessing emergency services. Due to a shortage of medical personnel and specialized vehicles, the waiting time for ambulances may reach up to six hours, significantly complicating the provision of urgent medical assistance.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
DTEK reported that on 2 January, stabilisation schedules for power cuts will be in effect in Kyiv and the surrounding oblast. Power will be cut off to residents of the capital in all phases.
Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration, announced that after renovations, Rzhyshchiv Geriatric Nursing Home in Kyiv oblast will open 100 new places for internally displaced persons in need of care. And in Slavutych, a building with 150 apartments for IDPs will open in early 2026.
On 1 January, two empty seats were left in the auditorium of Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre in memory of the married couple of scientists – biologist Olesia Sokur and neurobiologist Ihor Zyma. The couple were regular theatregoers and had tickets to see the play Natalka Poltavka on 1 January 2025, but were killed that day in a russian UAV attack on the capital.
Zhytomyr oblast
The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development reported that Zhytomyr oblast is preparing to send five buses to Odesa oblast in order to overcome the consequences of the difficult situation with electricity supply. It is noted that the difficult situation with electricity supply in Odesa oblast is caused by massive russian shelling, which has led to problems with passenger transport, as almost 40% of the city’s public transport runs on electricity. In response to this need, communities from other regions of Ukraine are providing transport support to the city.
Sumy oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that in 2025, the intensity of enemy attacks on Sumy oblast nearly doubled compared to 2024. All border regions of the oblast were targeted, as well as cities and villages deeper inside the oblast. Over the year, the enemy carried out 34,000 shelling attacks, 7,000 airstrikes, more than 200 missile attacks, used UAVs 2,300 times, and conducted 10,000 FPV-drone attacks.
Over the past year, Sumy oblast endured strikes that claimed civilian lives — 199 residents were killed, including eight children. Another 1,165 civilians were injured, including 99 children.
As a result of russian attacks in 2025, the following were damaged: 2,173 private houses, 420 apartment buildings, 89 educational institutions, 28 healthcare facilities, and more than 2,000 other civilian infrastructure sites.
Over the past day, from the morning of 1 January to the morning of 2 January, russian forces carried out more than 30 attacks on 12 settlements across 10 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used artillery, FPV drones, and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the obvlast lasted 10 hours and 9 minutes over the day.
As of the morning of 2 January, the following civilian infrastructure damage was reported:
- In Krasnopillia community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Sumy community, a private household and a passenger car were damaged;
- In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential building was destroyed;
- In Hlukhiv community, a private residential building was destroyed.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that overnight, a russian Heran UAV struck the grounds of a forestry enterprise in Koriukivka region. An outbuilding caught fire, which was successfully extinguished.
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that starting from midday on 1 January, 2026, russian forces have been attacking Semenivka by FPV drones and Molniia-type attack UAVs. At least four strikes have been recorded.
At 5:15pm, russian forces hit a residential apartment building in Semenivka. Windows in the building were damaged.
In the evening of 1 January, russian UAVs attacked a hospital in Semenivka. As a result of the strikes, outbuildings and garages were burned down, the hospital’s kitchen facility was damaged, and three service vehicles belonging to the medical facility were destroyed. According to police, the attack also damaged windows and the facade of a five-story residential building.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that over the past day, on 1 January, russian forces attacked five settlements in Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka border communities of Chernihiv oblast. The enemy carried out shelling with tube artillery (6 explosions), struck by Molniia-type UAVs (2 explosions), Shahed-type UAVs (5 explosions), conducted FPV drone attacks (10 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that mobile medical teams made 889 trips to communities across Chernihiv oblast in 2025. During this time, doctors visited 52 communities and examined nearly 24,000 patients. According to him, with funding from the German government, four communities — Bakhmat, Kulykivka, Bobrovytsa, and Nosivka — received mobile clinics. Mobile pharmacy units also continued operating: over the year they made 132 trips, providing essential medicines to more than 1,000 people in 76 settlements.
According to Viacheslav Chaus, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded two volunteers from Chernihiv oblast with the Order of Merit, 3rd Class.
Ihor Kukobko, a volunteer and chef, heads the NGO Iskra Dobra (Spark of Kindness), which back in 2022 organized evacuations by buses and boats, provided food for civilians and Ukrainian defenders, and supported medical facilities with medicines and essential supplies.
Roman Pushka, a proto-presbyter of Chernihiv Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, is a volunteer and director of the charitable organization Caritas Chernihiv.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, the occupiers struck Slovianske, Bohynivka, and Vasylkivka communities with UAVs. Two people were injured. Fires broke out. An educational institution, a gym, a private house, a garage, a summer kitchen, and an extension were damaged. As a result of the UAV attack, four vehicles were damaged. In the evening, the enemy continued attacking Nikopol with drones.
The enemy also struck Slovianske and Vasylkivka communities by UAVs. Two people were injured. Two private houses and a car were damaged. The occupiers continued attacking the region by drones and artillery, targeting Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove, and Pokrovske communities. A business facility and a power line were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
In Pereorky village in Vinnytsia region, the farm of Daria Shliakhova has become a shelter and rehabilitation center for horses evacuated from frontline and occupied territories of Ukraine. The animals are taken out from under shelling, treated for injuries, and helped to recover from war-related stress.
Kirovohrad oblast
According to Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, the first child from Kirovohrad oblast to receive the Presidential award “Future of Ukraine” is Davyd Kibukevych. He is a young athlete, musician, and volunteer. Thanks to his initiatives, funds were raised for night vision equipment, contributions were made toward purchasing a vehicle for Ukraine’s defenders, and assistance was provided to buy a drone.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that during the night, air defense forces destroyed a russian missile over Cherkasy oblast.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that on the night of 2 January, russians launched nine drone strikes on the regional center. As a result of the enemy shelling, dozens of residential buildings and commercial premises were damaged. Infrastructure facilities were also damaged.

According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, on 1 January, the occupiers carried out 737 strikes on 27 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted nine airstrikes on Bilenke, Zapasne, Huliaipole, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Zelene, Pryluhy, and Tsvitkove. 449 UAVs of various modifications, mostly FPV drones, attacked Zaporizhzhia, Kushuhum, Chervonodniprovka, Bilenke, Mariivka, Hryhorivske, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Komyshuvakha, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Zelene, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, and Solodke. Four MLRS strikes were carried out on Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, and Solodke. 275 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Zelene, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, and Solodke. Fifty-four reports were received about damage to housing, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities. Two people were injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Polohy regions.
According to the General Staff, on 2 January, towards Huliaipole, there were nine combat engagements near Huliaipole, Dobropillia, and Zelene, six of which are currently ongoing. Towards Orikhiv, there were two combat engagements in the vicinity of Plavni and Prymorske.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that on the night of 2 January, 13 Shahed-type UAVs and various types of decoy drones were shot down or suppressed in the region.
Yesterday, the enemy attacked Ochakiv, Kutsurub, and Halytsynivka communities nine times with FPV drones. A private house in the village of Lupareve was damaged. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
The Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that during the russian attack on the morning of 1 January, border guards shot down a russian Shahed-131/136 strike drone over Odesa oblast. According to preliminary data, the drone was aimed at hitting civilian infrastructure. A mobile fire group destroyed the UAV.
Electricity was restored to some residents of Odesa after the russian attack on 31 December, during which two energy facilities of DTEK Odesa Electric Grids were destroyed. The consequences of the attack are significant, and restoration work is ongoing.
Kherson oblast
Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that today the occupiers shelled Tomyna Balka in Bilozerka community. As a result, a 66-year-old man sustained fatal injuries.
According to the Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, today, russian occupiers shelled Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. As a result of the attacks, one person was killed, and two others were wounded. Trading facilities were also destroyed.
Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that since early morning, one of the heat generation facilities was under russian attacks. Disruptions to the heat supply in the city are possible due to the strikes. The Head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanko, reported that on 2 January, electricity was cut off in part of Dniprovskyi District of Kherson. Specialists are determining the causes and carrying out emergency repair works.
Police of Kherson oblast reported that on 1 January, the enemy attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Sofiivka, Novotiahynka, Sadove, Stepanivka, Stanislav, Rozlyv, Bilozerka, Romashkove, Yantarne, Veletenke, Chereshenky, Zorivka, Nadiivka, Novodmytrivka, Kizomys, Posad-Pokrovske, Poniativka, Tomyna Balka, Prydniprovske, Dniprovske, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Bilousove, Zolota Balka, Burhunka, Vysoke, Tiahynka, Lvivske, Odradokamianka, Olhivka, Kozatske, and Vesele. russian strikes damaged four apartment buildings and eight private houses, a multi-story building, a civilian car, and an ambulance. One person was killed, and seven wounded.

Zakarpattia oblast
During December, internally displaced persons registered in Uzhhorod received 50 packages with food kits, 164 bales of child’s and adult diapers and 445 breads at the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Center CF. Volunteers distributed 5,100 items of clothing, shoes, bed linen and dishes.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that the community has increased payments for the construction of monuments to fallen Heroes.
Lviv oblast
A charity event was held in Birkivskyi Taras Shevchenko school, during which tea, coffee, sweets, hygiene products and other necessary things were collected for the Defenders.
Vorotsivskyi school has completed its campaign to support the military. Students, parents and teachers also raised the most necessary things: coffee, tea, snacks, warm socks, hygiene products, postcards and drawings. Parcels were sent to military villagers who are currently on the front line, and separate sets were also handed over to combatants who returned home due to health reasons.
The youth community Soteria raised over UAH 13,000 during a trip to the parishes of Lviv oblast. The purpose of the collection is a charging station, car repairs and other necessary things for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rivne oblast
The air raid siren sounded 191 times in Rivne oblast last year. For comparison, in 2024, the signal was turned on 267 times. Summing up December: 16 alarms (in November there were 17), 7 times (simultaneously throughout the oblast), maximum silence (8 days). In total, since the beginning of the war, the air raid siren in the oblast has sounded 995 times.
Ternopil oblast
A defender from Ternopil will be able to purchase housing. The city will reimburse the first installment on a mortgage loan in the amount of UAH 240,000 under the eOselia program.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community sent 30 DJI MATRICE 4T quadcopters worth UAH 5.5m to the military.
Chernivtsi oblast
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, awarded soldiers who were killed in battles for Ukraine. Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Rodzinskyi was awarded the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).
