Towards Lyman, the russian army continues its “infiltration” tactics using small groups and is making extensive use of attack drones, particularly the cheap Molniya models. Spring vegetation facilitates camouflage for both the occupiers and the Ukrainian military.
On 3 May, the police recorded 1,349 enemy strikes along the front line and in the residential areas of Donetsk oblast.

In March, Tetiana herself was wounded during another evacuation, and an attempt to evacuate her was disrupted by a russian drone attack on the evacuation vehicle. After receiving treatment in Druzhkivka, she was evacuated by specialised transport to Chernivtsi for further treatment.

The water crisis is worsening in the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol. Water levels in Pavlopilske Reservoir are falling rapidly, and the diversion of water to Starokrymsk Reservoir has not solved the problem. According to Petro Andriushchenko, Head of the Centre for the Study of the Occupation, due to population growth or the cancellation of water supply schedules, the city could lose both water sources within 1–2 years.
Luhansk oblast
The humanitarian and social crisis is worsening in the temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast. Pharmacies in Luhansk have been out of insulin since early April, and more than half of medical posts in the so-called “lpr” remain vacant. The occupying administration is also stepping up discrimination against people with disabilities by refusing to recognise documents that do not conform to russian standards.
The situation with basic infrastructure is deteriorating. In Dovzhansk and Alchevsk, there are problems with water supply, rubbish has not been collected for months, and in Siverskodonetsk, the number of stray animals is rising. In Dovzhansk, the consequences of uncontrolled coal mining are also worsening — water is disappearing and ground subsidence is being recorded.
The economic situation is deteriorating: around 1,200 miners in occupied Luhansk oblast have not received their wages since 2025. Meanwhile, the occupying authorities continue to push ahead with the sale of assets and report on “investments” against a backdrop of the population’s real impoverishment.
The occupying administration is intensifying the militarisation of children. School students are being drawn into military-patriotic games, taught to operate drones and weapons, and teenagers are promised extra points towards university admission for completing military courses. Schools are also collecting money for the 9 May celebrations and to “honour” participants in the war against Ukraine.
Property-related pressure is also intensifying. In Luhansk, around 8,000 flats are subject to so-called “nationalisation” — on the grounds of debts, the absence of an owner, or the lack of documents in the russian property register. This creates a mechanism for the systematic expropriation of housing for the benefit of the occupying administration.
