War in Ukraine today: latest news, 14 April 2026 (photo)

It has been the 1511th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

Since the start of the day, the aggressor has attacked the positions of the Defence Forces 40 times.

Artillery shelling of border areas continues. Today, the following settlements in Sumy oblast were hit: Tovstodubove, Bachivsk, Iskryskivshchyna, Kysla Dubyna, Korenok and Budky; as well as Mykhalchyna-Sloboda in Chernihiv oblast. Bublykove, Novoivanivka and Pishchane came under enemy air strikes.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy carried out 35 attacks on settlements and our troops’ positions, seven of which involved the use of multiple launch rocket systems. In Sumy  oblast, our units carried out active operations and were successful.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of our units three times in the areas around the settlements of Starytsia and Lyman.

Towards Kupiansk, one engagement with the enemy is ongoing. The enemy is attacking in the direction of Kurylivka.

Towards Lyman, since the start of the day, there have been five enemy assaults in the direction of the settlements of Drobysheve and Dibrova; three clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Sloviansk, the enemy attacked twice in the direction of the settlements of Ozerne and Riznykivka. One clash is ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy has not carried out any active operations since the start of the day.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out six attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka and Sofiivka. One clash is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, since the start of the day, the occupiers have attempted 11 times to dislodge our troops from their positions in the areas of the settlements of Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Molodetske and towards Dorozhne and Serhiivka.

Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy launched six attacks in the areas around the settlements of Oleksandrohrad, Vorone, Kalynivske and Zlahoda. The outskirts of the settlement of Ivanivka were subjected to an air strike.

Towards Huliaipole, the Defence Forces successfully repelled four enemy attacks in the Huliaipole area and towards Hirke. The enemy carried out air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Novo-Ukrainka, Shyroke, Novoselivka, Rivne, and Dolynka.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy carried out air strikes on the areas of the settlements of Omelnyk, Novoivanivka, and Komyshuvakha.

Towards Kherson, the enemy carried out one futile assault in the direction of the Antonivskyi Bridge.

In other directions, there are currently no significant changes in the situation. No attempts by the enemy to advance have been recorded.

Ukrainian troops are wearing down the enemy along the entire line of contact and in the rear.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree №15110 extending the military levy for three years after the end of the war. Under the adopted law, a separate special fund will be established within the Budget Code to which funds from the military levy will be channelled. This draft law is one of the IMF’s key requirements. The military levy will remain in place for a further three years so that the state has funds not only for the army but also for post-war reconstruction and the restoration of destroyed infrastructure.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created the post of Special Envoy for Prisoners of War, Civilians and Missing Persons. Dmytro Ponomarenko has been appointed to this role. Previously, he worked on developing relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region and strengthening interregional cooperation. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea and concurrently to Mongolia.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Here is an edited version in a concise, clear digest format:

Over the past 24 hours, 125 combat engagements were recorded on the front line. Towards Southern Sloboda, russian forces launched five assaults on Defence Forces positions near Zybine, Lyman, Synelnykove and Vovchansk. Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers launched three attacks towards Kivsharivka, Novoplatonivka and Novosynove.

Over the past 24 hours, Kharkiv and 23 settlements in the region came under russian attack. One person was killed and 20 others injured as a result of the shelling. Injuries and stress reactions were recorded, in particular, in Zolochiv, Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk and Derhachi communities, as well as in Kharkiv.

The russians attacked Shevchenkivskyi and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv with drones. In total, they used one missile, three KABs, 18 Geran-2 drones, seven Molniya drones, two FPV drones and a further 21 drones of an unidentified type.

The shelling damaged civilian infrastructure across all districts of the region. In Kharkiv, an apartment block was damaged. In Bohodukhiv region, dozens of private homes, farm buildings, vehicles and agricultural facilities were damaged. In Kupiansk region, residential buildings, businesses, garages and transport were damaged. In Kharkiv region, houses, freight vehicles and businesses were damaged; in Lozova region, railway infrastructure was damaged; and in Chuhuiv r,gion businesses and a petrol station were damaged.

The russians also struck Pechenihy dam, one of the region’s key water management facilities, with guided aerial bombs. Almost simultaneously, they carried out a combined attack on Kharkiv using Molniya and Shahed drones.

The occupiers struck Mala Danylivka community with guided aerial bombs. In Cherkaska Lozova four aerial bombs were recorded as having struck; a 74-year-old woman was injured, and another person sought medical assistance. In Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv, a KAB struck the grounds of a garage cooperative; drones also hit two private houses, one of which caught fire.

The transit evacuation centre in Lozova received 151 people over the past 24 hours. Since it began operating, 28,108 people have been registered there.

Work is also continuing in the region on the development of underground infrastructure for children, specifically, the construction of Ukraine’s first underground nursery, designed to accommodate 500 children. The work is expected to be completed in about a month and a half.

Donetsk oblast

On 13 April, russian forces carried out 1,515 attacks along the front line and in residential areas of Donetsk oblast. As a result of the shelling, one person was killed and three others wounded.

Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk and Mykhailivka came under attack. 42 civilian buildings were damaged, 23 of which were residential.

In Kramatorsk, the russians struck with six drones of various types. One person was killed and three others wounded as a result of the attack. 9 apartment blocks and 10 private houses, as well as 11 cars, were damaged.

In Druzhkivka, two private houses and a civilian vehicle were damaged as a result of three drone strikes.

In Sloviansk, the russians deployed five FPV drones and as aresult, an apartment block and four vehicles were damaged.

In Dobropillia, a private house was destroyed, and in Mykhailivka, Oleksandrivka community, an administrative building was damaged.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past 24 hours, russian forces have fired mortars 11 times in Luhansk oblast, as well as using tube artillery and automatic grenade launchers. They have also deployed 13 drones against Ukrainian military positions. Towards Lyman, the occupiers carried out eight attacks.

The healthcare system in Luhansk oblast has suffered significant damage as a result of the war: since 2014, the region has lost its regional centre with key medical facilities, and since 2022, 235 hospital buildings have been destroyed or damaged, with thousands of medical staff having left. At the same time, 51 facilities have been successfully re-established in safer regions. A new model of healthcare is currently being developed, focused on mobility, digitalisation, prevention and mental health.

In Siverskodonetsk, a russian contractor involved in a so-called “reconstruction” project left workers without pay. Wages were withheld for two months, and it later emerged that the workers had been formally dismissed “at their own request”, meaning they had worked for the last month without pay.

In the centre of Luhansk, a road that had undergone major repairs in 2025 by contractors from the russian Federation has begun to deteriorate. The asphalt surface did not last even a year and already requires further repairs.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the Regional Military Administration, renovation work is underway in Irpin on the Vesnianka nursery school, which suffered significant damage in the spring of 2022. Once completed, the nursery will be able to accommodate 120 children. As part of the project, the building has already been refurbished, with modern playgrounds and sports facilities installed.

Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that Kyiv oblast has handed over more than 100 Ukrainian-made drones to servicemen of the 25th Separate Airborne Sicheslav Brigade. Funds from the regional budget were allocated for this purpose at the request of the military. The unit is on the defensive in the Pokrovsk direction.

Kyiv Regional Centre for Preparing the Population for National Resistance is inviting residents of the region to a one-day training session on 2 May. Anyone aged 18 or over is welcome to take part. Participation is free of charge.

Zhytomyr oblast

Vitalii Bunechko, Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, reported that over 80 pieces of equipment and around 600 specialists have been deployed to carry out emergency rescue and restoration work at the site of the russian strike in Korosten. More than 545 tonnes of building rubble have already been removed from the area hit by the air strike on 3 April.

Experts have inspected three high-rise buildings and 86 private houses that were damaged in Korosten. In total, 109 buildings have already been inspected, and 48 inspection reports have been drawn up. Ten residential buildings are due for demolition. Some of the damaged homes have been restored to a functional living condition. At the same time, more than half of the homes require major repairs to roofs, windows and doors.

A total of 128 applications for the inspection of damaged homes and 105 applications for financial assistance have already been received from the public. All 11 victims have received medical assistance and are undergoing outpatient treatment.

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration announces the holding of the 2nd regional creative children’s drawing competition “Silence That Speaks” to mark the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. 

Sumy oblast

On 13 April the 14th Army Corps reported that the Defence Forces withdrew to new positions in the area of Myropillia in Sumy oblast. The decision was explained by the intensity of hostilities, the enemy’s advantage in forces and means, and the need to preserve personnel. Ukrainian forces continue to control the situation, conduct reconnaissance, and remain prepared for further action.

The 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces informed that twenty-nine russian servicemen attempted to infiltrate behind Ukrainian positions in Sumy oblast. russian soldiers used a gas pipeline and adverse weather conditions. Due to coordinated efforts of reconnaissance units, UAV crews, and artillery, enemy movement was detected in time and stopped. All identified targets were destroyed.

According to City Military Administration, on the daytime of 14 April, russian forces carried out UAV strikes on civilian infrastructure facilities in Zarichnyi district of Sumy. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that on the evening of 13 April, at the junction of the Hlukhiv–Sumy road with the villages of Kaliuzhne and Semenivka, a russian drone struck a KamAZ lorry. The vehicle caught fire, and the driver was killed at the scene.

On 13 April, a russian UAV dropped unidentified objects over Bilopillia. Authorities warned of possible mining of the area and advised residents of areas near the Illinskyi bridge to exercise caution.

As a result of russian shelling across the oblast over the past day, 13 April, one person was killed and one was injured. According to the Regional Military Administration, a 39-year-old man was killed in Hlukhiv community after a UAV struck a vehicle. In Bilopillia, a 40-year-old man was injured following a UAV strike on a car.

Over the past day, from the morning of 13 April to the morning of 14 April, russian forces carried out more than 80 attacks on 26 settlements across 14 territorial communities of the oblast. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 23 hours and 6 minutes over the day.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

  • in Shostka community, an administrative building, multi-apartment residential buildings, non-residential premises, vehicles, buses, and tractors were damaged;
  • in Esman community, a private residential house was destroyed;
  • in Hlukhiv community, a lorry was destroyed, while a shop premises, multi-apartment residential buildings, non-residential premises, and vehicles were damaged;
  • in Berezivka community, a vehicle was damaged;
  • in Mykolaivka rural community, a private house and an outbuilding were damaged;
  • in Sumy community, civilian infrastructure facilities and a civilian passenger vehicle were damaged;
  • in Bilopillia community, a private vehicle was destroyed and another was damaged;
  • in Bezdrivka community, vehicles were damaged;
  • in Boromlia community, a private residential house was damaged;
  • in Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential house was damaged;
  • in Krasnopillia community, a private residential house was damaged.

Over the past day, 16 people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations.

The State Emergency Service informed that over the past week, pyrotechnic units in Sumy oblast neutralised 87 explosive ordnance items. Hazardous finds were discovered in Sumy, Konotop, Romny, Okhtyrka, and Shostka regions. Since the beginning of the year, 316 cases of explosive ordnance detection have been recorded.

Chernihiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service reported that drone operators of “Khymera” unit of the 105th Border Guard Detachment from Chernihiv oblast struck equipment and positions of russian forces in Briansk oblast.

The City Council informed that on the daytime of 14 April, the enemy attacked warehouse facilities of a private enterprise in Chernihiv. A fire broke out at the impact site.

On the morning of 14 April, russian forces attacked Chernihiv by UAVs. According to Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, Head of Chernihiv City Military Administration, as of 11:30am two people — a woman and a man — were injured and hospitalised with blast injuries. As a result of strikes on the central part of the city, an administrative building and a multi-apartment residential building were damaged.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that on the morning of 14 April, russian forces attacked Semenivka town. At 09:13am, a Molniya-type strike UAV hit the town. Windows were damaged in a Ukrposhta building as a result of the strike.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that as a result of russian attacks on Chernihiv oblast over the past day, 13 April, a forestry building, an inactive petrol station, residential houses, and equipment were damaged across several communities.

In particular:

  • in Dobrianka community, a drone damaged one of the forestry buildings of the State Enterprise “Lisy Ukrainy”;
  • in Horodnia community, housing and an inactive petrol station were damaged;
  • in Semenivka, a russian UAV struck a private yard, damaging residential houses;
  • in Snovsk village community, a house and a tractor were damaged following a UAV strike.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that over the course of 13 April, russian forces attacked five border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk, Horodnia, and Ripky. The enemy carried out shelling using mortars (7 explosions), conducted UAV strikes of the Italmas type (2 explosions), Molniya type (2 explosions), and Shahed type (2 explosions), carried out FPV drone strikes (32 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (14 explosions). Fifteen settlements came under enemy fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Overnight, 8 enemy UAVs were destroyed over the oblast.

Nikopol region. In Marhanets, a 40-year-old man was injured due to yesterday’s drone strike. He will be treated at home. From evening until morning, the occupiers shelled the region by Grad MLRS, artillery and FPV drones. They targeted the regional centre, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities. Fires broke out and a cultural centre, a private house and a country house were damaged. Due to previous attacks, 5 private houses, a dormitory and an outbuilding were damaged.

Synelnykove region. Mykolaivka community was struck by UAVs. A fire broke out and infrastructure was damaged.

Kryvyi Rih region. A strike hit Kryvyi Rih. A fire broke out and infrastructure was damaged.

Dnipro. As a result of a strike on Dnipro, 27 people were injured and 5 killed. Fires broke out. A gas station, 14 vehicles and a tractor were damaged.

Nikopol region. The enemy attacked the region by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Marhanets, Myrove, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities. A fire broke out. 3 private houses, an outbuilding, a greenhouse and infrastructure were damaged.

Kryvyi Rih region. The occupiers struck Kryvyi Rih, Zelenodolsk and Lozuvatka communities by drones. Fires broke out and infrastructure was damaged.

Synelnykove region. As a result of an FPV attack in Mezhova community, a private house was damaged.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, residents paid tribute to servicemen Ruslan Florinskyi, Oleksandr Cherneha and Andrii Bielinskyi.

Major Ruslan Florinskyi was killed on 3 April 2026, while carrying out a combat mission near Vovchanski Khutory village, Kharkiv oblast.

Soldier Andrii Bielinskyi was killed on 19 March 2026, near Shevchenko settlement, Pokrovsk region, Donetsk oblast.

Soldier Oleksandr Cherneha was killed on 5 April 2026, near Kalynivka village, Pokrovsk region, Donetsk oblast.

Poltava oblast

A 24-year-old soldier, Anatolii Romanenko from Poltava oblast, was killed in the war. This occurred on 12 December 2024, in Kursk region. His death was confirmed by DNA analysis.

In Poltava, residents paid tribute to serviceman Denys Nat, who was killed on 24 March 2026, in Donetsk oblast while performing military duty. He was originally from Kazakhstan.

In Sumy oblast, serviceman Ihor Pylypenko from Poltava oblast was killed while carrying out a mission. He was from Sencha community. This occurred on 12 April 2026, in combat with russian forces near Krovne settlement.

According to Volodymyr Poliakov, Director of ATO museum, In Kremenchuk, a memorial event was held to honor soldiers who died during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine. The event took place at the city ATO museum. On 14 April, Ukraine commemorates the beginning of the ATO, which started in 2014. Families of fallen soldiers, military personnel and residents attended the event.

Cherkasy oblast

In the evening, russian forces launched attack UAVs at the oblast. Air defence neutralised 9 targets. There were tragic consequences in the regional centre. As a result of falling UAV debris, at least 4 high-rise buildings were damaged. An 8-year-old boy was killed from his injuries. 9 people were hospitalised, including a child in serious condition. 3 residents received assistance on-site. The inspection of the area is ongoing.

In Chornobai, residents paid tribute to Junior Sergeant Viktor Orel. He had been wounded and concussed during combat near Vuhledar. After prolonged treatment, he did not fully recover. His heart stopped on 12 April 2026. He was 50 years old.

In Cherkasy, at the St. Michael’s Cathedral Garrison Church, residents paid tribute to 2 servicemen: 48-year-old Andrii Kovalov and 41-year-old Artur Yakymets.

Artur Yakymets was killed in March as a result of an FPV drone strike, while Andrii Kovalov was killed in October 2024 during an assault and had been considered missing.

Also, the death of serviceman Anatolii Furmanets from Chyhyryn was reported. He was killed on 15 May 2025, in combat in Sumy oblast and had been considered missing for over a year.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that in the evening, russian troops struck Zaporizhzhia oblast. As a result of the hit, specialised equipment that was carrying out water supply network repairs was damaged.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 13 April, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 13 russian attacks in Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions. In particular, russian forces attacked positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Zaliznychne, Pryluky, Hirske, Huliaipole, Stepnohirsk and Konovalove.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 13 April, russian forces carried out 875 strikes on 45 settlements of Zaporizhzhia oblast. An 86-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were injured as a result of attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the oblast.

Mykolaiv oblast

Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on the evening of 13 April, the russian military attacked energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv Oloblast by Shahed drones. A building and a vehicle trailer were damaged as a result of FPV drone attacks.

During 13 April, 3 Shahed drones and various types of decoy UAVs were neutralised in the oblast.

Odesa oblast

Referring to Odesa RMA, at night, russian forces attacked civilian and port infrastructure in the south of the oblast by drones. A 51-year-old man was injured. In the territory of Izmail port, a civilian ship under the flag of Panama, a pier and a barge were damaged. Also, port equipment was damaged. 6 private houses were hit and their roofs were damaged. An ambulance vehicle was damaged. 2 buses and 7 cars were destroyed.

During the russian attack on Odesa oblast on 13 April, air defence forces neutralised an anti-radar missile Kh-31.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, at around 4pm in Velyka Oleksandrivka, a resident was injured due to the detonation of a downed russian Shahed-type UAV. A 67-year-old woman was taken to hospital with blast injuries, burns to the head and shrapnel wounds to the torso and limbs.

At around 3:30pm, russian forces attacked Bilozirka by a Molniia-type UAV. A 62-year-old man was injured, sustaining blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his limbs.

At around 12:40pm, russian forces attacked Korabelnyi district of Kherson by a drone. A 52-year-old woman was killed. A 52-year-old man was hospitalised with shrapnel wounds to the spine, concussion, blast injury and closed head injury. His condition is of moderate severity.

In the morning, the enemy struck a medical facility in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson by a Molniya-type drone. 4 hospital workers were injured: a 67-year-old man and women aged 42, 51 and 39. Preliminary reports indicate they sustained blast injuries.

At around 9:15am, russian forces attacked Nadiivka in Bilozerka community by a drone. A 19-year-old man who was outside was injured, sustaining concussion, blast injury and closed head injury.

At around 9am, russian forces struck a civilian car in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson by a drone. A 62-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds to the head, concussion, blast injury and closed head injury.

At around 1:20am, russian forces struck a residential building in Komyshany by a drone. 2 women aged 66 and 68 sustained blast injuries and concussions.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade received construction materials worth UAH 104,000 and components for drones worth UAH 91,000 from Novovolynsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that the Honor and Valor of Zakarpattia Oblast badge was awarded to a soldier, a fighter of the Stuhna unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate as part of the Timur special unit with the call sign Fighter.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivan Hutskalo, 42-year-old war veteran from Kalush, has died. The soldier served in the 109th battalion of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelweis.

Lviv oblast

In Sheptytsk region, the memory of the fallen soldiers of the 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrii Sheptytsky was immortalized on the Wall of Memory. 67 commemorative plaques with the names and photos of the fallen defenders are now engraved in the symbolic memorial.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast presented its own case of inclusive services during the war in the international UBC newsletter. Since February 2022, the region has received over 88,000 IDPs and created a one-stop shop format – the Integration Space in Rivne, where people can receive comprehensive assistance in one place. The model is now scaled up in over 30 communities through Resilience Centers.

Ternopil oblast

An Isuzu all-wheel drive pickup truck was handed over to the soldiers of the 101st Separate Territorial Defense Brigade thanks to funds from Ternopil City Council employees without involving budget funds.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA held a meeting of Khmelnytskyi Oblast Defense Council. They discussed further strengthening the oblast’s defense capabilities.

Chernivtsi oblast

One of the state fire and rescue units of the oblast received 2 modern fire tankers of 2025. Local fire brigades in Tarasany and Toporivka received ZIL-131 fire trucks, which were in service with state fire and rescue units.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

In Berlin, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, and Friedrich Merz, Federal Chancellor of Germany, held intergovernmental consultations, which took place for the first time in over 20 years.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Defense Minister announced that Ukraine and Germany will begin exchanging defense data.
