War in Ukraine today: latest news, 11 April 2026 (photo)

It has been the 1508  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 11 April, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 50 times.

Border regions were shelled, namely in Sumy oblast, the settlements of Tovstodubove, Bachivsk, Iskryskivshchyna, Korenok, Atynske, Volfyne, Ryzhivka, Rohizne, Yastrubshchyna, Zhuravka, and Budky were affected; Zarichchia and Yeline in Chernihiv oblast were also hit.

  • Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk: There were four combat engagements. Additionally, the enemy carried out 28 shellings of settlements and Ukrainian troop positions, one of which involved the use of a multiple launch rocket system.
  • Towards Southern Sloboda: The adversary twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the Starytsia region.
  • Towards Kupiansk: The adversary attempted to improve its position three times, moving toward the settlements of Petropavlivka and Novoosynove.
  • Towards Lyman: There were four enemy assaults near Zarichne, Shyiivka and Lyman.
  • Towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk: The enemy did not conduct active operations.
  • Towards Kostiantynivka: The invaders carried out 14 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka, and Novopavlivka.
  • Towards Pokrovsk: The occupiers have tried 13 times to dislodge Ukrainian warriors from occupied positions in the areas of Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Udachne, Novomykolaivka, Molodetske, and Novopavlivka.
  • Towards Oleksandrivka: There were three combat engagements with the adversary in the vicinity of Novohryhorivka and Ternove.
  • Towards Huliaipole: The Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks in the vicinity of Solodke and Olenokostiantynivka, and Charivne. The enemy launched airstrikes in the vicinity of Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, Kopani, Charivne, and Rivne.
  • Towards Orikhiv: The adversary launched airstrikes on the areas of Obshche and Omelnyk.
  • Towards Kherson : The enemy conducted three futile offensive actions toward the Antonivka Bridge and Bilohrudyi Island.

In other directions, no significant changes in the situation are currently occurring. There were no enemy attempts to advance. Ukrainian troops continue to exhaust the enemy along the entire line of combat engagement and in the rear.


Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Front

On 12 April, despite the russians declaring a so-called “Easter truce” from 16:00 on 11 April until the end of 12 April, the occupiers continued their activity in the section of the front in Kharkiv oblast controlled by the Achilles brigade. Yurii Fedorenko, Commander of the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Achilles,” reported that the russians are launching artillery strikes, and their drones continue to fly.

According to General Staff data as of 22:00, after the “truce” was announced:

  • Towards Southern Sloboda: russians stormed the positions of the Defense Forces three times. In total, since the beginning of the day, five attacks were recorded in the vicinity of Starytsia, Veterinaryne, Prylipka, and Vovchanski Khutory.
  • Towards Kupiansk: Ukrainian defenders repelled three russian attacks.

Throughout the past day, 173 combat engagements were recorded at the front. Towards Southern Sloboda, the Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian units 12 times in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Kolodiazne, Starytsia, Zelene, Vovchanski Khutory, Prylipka, Lyman, and in the direction of Hrafske. Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers attacked three times near Kurylivka and Novoplatonivka.

Additionally, the Defense Forces regained control over territory near Ambarne in Kupiansk region. Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Group of Joint Forces, reported that units of the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade participated in the operation.

Shelling

Seven settlements in Kharkiv oblast were struck by russian forces. It was confirmed that as a result of the shelling on 9 April in the settlement of Kivsharivka (Kupiansk community), a 52-year-old man was killed, and another 48-year-old man was injured.

Throughout the day, the russians actively deployed various types of weaponry across the region:

  • MLRS strikes;
  • 14 KABs;
  • 10 Geran-2 type UAVs;
  • 1 FPV drone;
  • 3 drones of an unidentified type.

Civilian infrastructure objects were damaged and destroyed. In Kupiansk region, an administrative building and a bank were damaged in the settlement of Velykyi Burluk. In Izium region, 13 private houses, two tractors, and power grids were damaged in the village of Kapytolivka, while 15 private houses were damaged in Dibrova. In Lozova region, railway infrastructure was damaged in Lozova.

Other Updates

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 187 people in the past 24 hours. Since its opening, a total of 27,843 people have been registered there.

On 11 April, 175 military personnel and seven Ukrainian civilians returned from Russian captivity. Among those released are nine residents of Kharkiv oblast: three from Kharkiv, as well as residents of Lozova, Chuhuiv, and Kharkiv, Lozova, and Chuhuiv regions.

The hospital in Shevchenkove, Kupiansk region, may be relocated due to Russian drone strikes. The medical facility suffered destruction following Russian attacks on 25 March.

In Pisochyn, Kharkiv region, construction of Ukraine’s first underground kindergarten continues. The facility is 85% complete. A protective structure with an area of over 1,100 square meters has already been built, utility lines have been connected, and an alternative power supply has been installed. The shelter is equipped with security, ventilation, alert, and video surveillance systems. Currently, work is underway to connect communications, install sanitary equipment, and landscape the territory. Upon completion, the project will ensure a continuous educational process for over 200 preschoolers.

Donetsk oblast

Front

On 11 April, between 16:00 and 22:00, russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions 13 times towards Lyman, Kostiantynivka, Sloviansk, and Pokrovsk. In total, after 16:00, Ukrainian military personnel recorded 469 violations of the ceasefire regime.

  • Towards Lyman: russians did not observe the so-called “silence regime,” despite the declared “Easter truce.” There were ten attempts by Russian troops to advance toward Lyman in the vicinity of Dibrova and Zarichne, as well as near Nadiia in Luhansk oblast, which Ukrainian warriors repelled.
  • Towards Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka: These remained the most active sectors. The Defense Forces repelled 26 and 16 attacks, respectively. Russian troops are attempting to bypass Kostiantynivka to threaten the logistics of the Defense Forces, while continuing to pressure Pokrovsk and surrounding settlements.
  • Towards Kramatorsk: The enemy did not conduct active operations during the past day. In other sectors (excluding Lyman), the overall number of attacks decreased.

Additionally, units of the Defense Forces struck Russian ammunition depots in the vicinity of Makedonivka and Donetsk in Donetsk oblast.

Shelling

In the evening, Russian troops attacked Druzhkivka. An FPV drone struck a five-story residential building, causing a fire on balconies from the third to the fifth floors and in two apartments. Rescuers extinguished the fire over an area of 130 square meters while working under the threat of repeated shelling. There were no casualties.

In the morning, the Russians launched a massive airstrike on Kramatorsk. Preliminary reports indicate they dropped four guided aerial bombs (KABs) on the city center, one of which hit an apartment building. At least 10 people were wounded—six men and four women aged 29 to 89. Two of the injured are in serious condition.

In the city, 17 apartment buildings and approximately ten cars were damaged. A fire broke out in one of the buildings, which rescuers extinguished over an area of 22 square meters; they also rescued three people from blocked apartments. Following the strike, residents continue to clear debris in their ruined homes, and emergency services remain on site.

In the morning in Sloviansk, a private house caught fire as a result of russian shelling. A two-story home sustained damage, and the roof ignited. Rescuers extinguished the fire.

On 10 April, police recorded 1,331 russian attacks along the front line and the residential sector of Donetsk oblast. Seven settlements were under fire: Dobropillia, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Sviatohorivka, as well as the villages of Dobropillia, Zavydo-Borzenka, and Osykove. Twenty residential buildings were destroyed.

In Dobropillia, the Russians killed a civilian. They struck Sloviansk with two Geran-2 drones. As a result of the attack, three people were wounded, and 20 private houses and three cars were damaged.

Other Updates 

Additionally, 11 service members of the 1st Corps of the Azov National Guard and one service member of the “Kara-Dag” brigade were returned from Russian captivity.

Luhansk oblast

During the night of 10 April, in Perevalsk in the occupied part of Luhansk oblast, a strike was recorded on the territory of a repair and mechanical plant.

During the past day, the Russians directed 21 drones toward Ukrainian defenders in Luhansk oblast. In four instances, they deployed rocket artillery; they also struck with tube artillery, nine times with mortars, and utilized automatic grenade launchers. The occupiers conducted offensive actions in the vicinity of Nadiia.

More than half of vocational school graduates in occupied Luhansk oblast are unable to find employment. According to the occupation authorities, 52.2% of graduates—approximately 2,500 people—did not find work in 2025. The stated specialties are not in demand on the labor market, and the occupiers have failed to create proper conditions for youth employment.

Starting 1 January 2027, fifth-grade students in occupied Luhansk oblast will begin studying a new subject: “Spiritual and Moral Culture of the rf.” From September 2027, this discipline will also be introduced for sixth and seventh grades. Each year, the occupation authorities reduce the number of hours dedicated to exact and natural sciences in favor of propaganda-based subjects.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Mykola Kalashnik, Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, has announced that the curfew during the Easter holidays within the region remains unchanged and will be in force from 00:00 to 05:00. Over 1,500 law enforcement officers have been deployed to maintain public order, including additional patrols, bomb disposal units, dog handlers and representatives of civil defence organisations. In addition, over 1,000 shelters have been prepared to respond to potential threats, some of which are located directly adjacent to places of worship. According to Kalashnik, the oblast has 855 places of worship. On the night of 11–12 April, services are scheduled in hundreds of churches, which could be attended by around half a million people.

Zhytomyr oblast

According to Iryna Kovalchuk of the Department for Family, Youth and Sport of the Zhytomyr City Council, on 11 April, an open city karate competition was held at the Dynamo sports complex in Zhytomyr, in memory of the fallen soldiers and athletes Volodymyr Rudyuk, Pavlo Shevchuk and Denys Denisyuk. Over 200 athletes from clubs in Zhytomyr and Kyiv took part in the competition. The fallen servicemen-athletes were part of the city’s sporting community.

Sumy oblast

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that in Sumy region, two cyclists were injured. The incident occurred on 11 April at approximately 1pm in Khotin community. An explosive device detonated when the men, aged 39 and 30, approached it.

On 11 April in Shostka region, a 17-year-old boy was injured by a mine. He encountered an explosive device while riding a motorcycle in Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community. The teenager was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The child, who had previously been evacuated from the community, had returned there for Easter.

The State Emergency Service informed that at approximately 2:30pm on 11 April, russian forces struck Bilopillia community by a guided aerial bomb. Residential houses and outbuildings sustained significant damage. A fire broke out. No information on casualties has been received.

On 10 April, 14 residents of Sumy were injured as a result of UAV strikes on residential buildings. Among the injured was a 14-year-old boy, who received medical assistance at the scene. An 87-year-old woman was hospitalised. Most of the injured were elderly people.

In Mykolaivka rural community, a 46-year-old man was injured on 10 April following a drone strike. In Seredyna-Buda community, a 55-year-old woman was injured as a result of a drone strike.

Two civilians, a 52-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, sought medical assistance after being injured in a UAV attack on Konotop community on the morning of 10 April. A 70-year-old woman, injured in a drone attack in Seredyna-Buda community on 9 April, also sought medical assistance.

Over the past day, from the morning of 10 April to the morning of 11 April, russian forces carried out 95 attacks on 18 settlements across 11 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 16 hours and 14 minutes over the day.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

  • in Znob-Novhorodske community, private residential houses, outbuildings, and a civilian infrastructure facility were destroyed;
  • in Shostka community, residential buildings, outbuildings, and non-residential premises were damaged;
  • in Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house was destroyed, and another private house, a non-residential premises, and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
  • in Mykolaivka rural community, a lorry was damaged;
  • in Sumy community, multi-apartment residential buildings, a building of an educational institution, a private residential house, a non-residential premises, and passenger vehicles were damaged;
  • in Romny community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.

Over the past day, five people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations.

Sumy oblast will receive more than UAH 1.2b. for the restoration of frontline roads. The funds have been allocated under a government resolution to support border regions. More than 511 kilometres of national and local roads are planned for restoration, including in the 40-kilometre border zone, where road conditions are critical for military logistics, evacuation, and emergency services operations.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that over the course of 10 April, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out shelling using mortars (12 explosions), conducted a UAV strike of the Molniya type (1 explosion), FPV drone strikes (4 explosions), and dropped an explosive device from a UAV (1 explosion). Five settlements came under enemy fire.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that as of early April 2026, Chernihiv oblast has established cooperation with more than 750 international organisations.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that the enemy attacked the oblast by FPV drones and MLRS. They targeted the regional centre, Pokrovske rural and Marhanets communities. 2 trucks caught fire. An enterprise, a high-rise building and a shop were damaged. Due to evening attacks, a hospital and another high-rise building were damaged. The occupiers struck Mykolaivka and Ukrainka communities by UAVs. Infrastructure, a private house and 3 vehicles were damaged.

During the day, in Marhanets, a 64-year-old woman was injured as a result of an FPV strike. Due to a night attack in Nikopol, a 67-year-old man was killed. In total, the occupiers attacked by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Myrove, Pokrovske rural, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities. Fires broke out. 5 multi-apartment buildings and 4 private houses, 2 outbuildings, a shop, a non-operational building, trucks and infrastructure were damaged. 

The enemy also attacked Sofiivka, Novopillia, Zelenodolsk and Hrushivka communities by drones. A private house and a vehicle were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast 

Among those released from captivity are 3 servicemen from Vinnytsia oblast. They are Navy servicemen who were captured while defending Mariupol: Andrii (34), Bohdan (31) and Yurii (27). The Heroes had been waiting for their release since 2022.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RMA, reported that as a result of a russian drone attack in Kirovohrad oblast, a private house was damaged in Adzhamka community.

Poltava oblast

According to Poltava Regional Military Administration, russian forces attacked Lubny region. As a result of falling debris from an enemy UAV, a shop and a café were damaged. One person was killed and another injured.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, stated that 8 residents of Cherkasy oblast were returned from russian captivity. Among them are: Lieutenant Colonel Vasyl Berdii, Senior Lieutenant Vadym Bykanov, Junior Sergeants Vladyslav Andrashko and Vasyl Varyvoda, Senior Seamen Yevhen Bazylevskyi and Oleh Horovyi, and soldiers Yevhenii Krot and Andrii Volodchenko.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that 2 police officers aged 41 and 22 were injured as a result of a russian attack on Novooleksandrivka in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Among those returned today from russian captivity are 13 servicemen from Zaporizhzhia oblast.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 10 April, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 17 russian attacks in Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions. Combat engagements took place near Shcherbaky, Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Bilohiria, Huliaipilske, Staroukrainka, Charivne, Zaliznychne and Sviatopetrivka.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 10 April, russian forces carried out over 750 strikes on 45 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Mykolaiv oblast

Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv RMA, today, activity of russian tactical aviation was recorded in the southern direction.

On 10 April, russian forces attacked Ochakiv community 6 times by FPV drones. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

Referring to Odesa City Military Administration, 2 people were killed as a result of a strike on a residential area in Odesa. A married couple: a 38-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man. 2 more people were injured and hospitalised, including a 69-year-old woman.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged, including dozens of private and multi-apartment buildings, a dormitory and a kindergarten building. Windows were shattered and roofs and facades were damaged.

According to Odesa Regional Military Administration, during the night, russian forces attacked industrial, energy and transport infrastructure in Odesa oblast.

Kherson oblast

Relying on the information provided by Kherson RMA, at around 3:30pm, russian forces attacked a trolleybus by a drone in Korabelnyi district of Kherson. The driver later died in hospital from his injuries.

At around 2:40pm, russian forces shelled Korabelnyi district. A 14-year-old boy sustained a concussion, blast injury and closed head injury. A 77-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman were hospitalised with similar injuries.

At around 11:20am, another shelling of Korabelnyi district injured a 55-year-old man, who sustained a blast injury and a leg wound.

At around 11am, a drone struck a minibus in Korabelnyi district. A 42-year-old driver was hospitalised with a blast injury and chest wounds. At the same time, a civilian car was hit in the area. A 69-year-old driver and a 57-year-old passenger were injured, sustaining blast injuries, concussions and shrapnel wounds.

At around 9:30am, a Molniia-type UAV struck Fedorivka village in Daryivka community. A 73-year-old woman was killed.

At around 8am, a drone attacked a civilian car in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 61-year-old man sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his arm.

At around 7:20am, russian forces attacked a civilian vehicle by a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 24-year-old nurse was injured in the strike. She was hospitalised with blast injuries, concussion and acute stress reaction.

Women were injured during russian shelling of Korabelnyi district. A 57-year-old woman sustained a blast injury and acute stress reaction. A 51-year-old woman, who was inside a pharmacy at the time, suffered a blast injury and concussion.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

As part of the prisoner of war exchange, 2 servicemen from the oblast returned home. These are Volodymyr Olifyruk, born on 27 December 1979, from the city of Volodymyr, and Andrii Artysiuk, born on 25 April 1979, from the village of Lyubeshiv.

Zakarpattia oblast

During their trip to the oblast Yulia Svyrydenko, Prime Minister, Viktor Lyashko, Minister of Health, and Natalia Husak, Head of the National Health Insurance Fund, worked in medical institutions in the oblast. The key was to see how government decisions and the Medical Guarantees Program work directly for the region’s residents.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that specialized vehicles were sent to the rehabilitation center of Prykarpattia. The car is equipped with a special lift for transporting people who use wheelchairs, which opens up new opportunities for veterans and patients with limited mobility.

Lviv oblast

After a long rehabilitation, on his birthday, Pavlo Yurkevich, soldier of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, from Dobrotvirska community, Sheptytskyi region, returned home. During the fighting, he was captured by the enemy, where he spent 994 days – almost 3 years of trials, endurance and struggle for life. In March of this year, Pavlo was returned. Since then, he has been undergoing rehabilitation.

Rivne oblast

Among the Ukrainian soldiers released from captivity today are three soldiers from Rivne oblast. They are 51, 33 and 27 years old. 2 are from Rivne region and one is from Dubno.

Ternopil oblast

Defenders on the front line received packages from children from Ternopil. These packages were prepared by students, parents, teachers and employees of educational institutions. They carefully raised and handed over with volunteers Easter cakes, meat products, coffee, cookies, long-term products, medicines, hygiene products, socks, power tools and compressors needed on the front line. And the children wrote letters and made amulets.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community received 20,000 batteries worth UAH 2.5m from its partner Prague-6. The city signed a partnership agreement with Prague-6 in March 2022.

Chernivtsi oblast

A modular town has been opened in Vyzhnytsia with the support of the Italian Red Cross. The modular town is a safe space for people who need support.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The UN reported that the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine has increased sharply (+49% in March). Last month, at least 211 civilians were killed and another 1,206 were injured. At the same time, 46 deaths and 343 injuries were recorded in the 1st nine days of April. The key causes are missile strikes and drone attacks, including long-range and front-line ones. Since the start of the full-scale war, according to the UN, more than 15,500 civilians have been confirmed dead, including 784 children.
