What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Timur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, reported that on the evening of 18 March, during the russian federation’s attack on Kyiv, debris from a UAV was recorded falling onto the roof of a non-residential building in the Holosiivskyi district. An air raid alert was declared in Kyiv at 18:22.

DTEK reported that power cut schedules are returning to Kyiv. The restrictions were introduced on the orders of Ukrenergo against the backdrop of new attacks on energy facilities in frontline regions and cloudy weather, which reduces the efficiency of domestic solar power stations.

Ukrzaliznytsia has announced temporary restrictions on the Kyiv–Kharkiv Intercity train. Until the end of March, it will run on to Poltava. The restrictions are linked to power supply disruptions and heightened security measures. There are no plans to alter other routes to Kharkiv.

Social care facilities in Kyiv oblast have been provided with gas heaters to see them through the coming autumn and winter. These were received by 10 social services centres and residential care homes in Kyiv Oblast, where the most vulnerable members of the population live and receive the necessary support. The assistance was provided by the NGO Ukraine2Power.

A one-day youth military-patriotic training course, ‘Skills of the Strong’, took place in Kyiv oblast. The event brought together active young people to gain practical knowledge and skills in the field of national security and defence. Participants gained basic knowledge and practical skills in self-defence, safety fundamentals and first aid, familiarised themselves with small arms, and tested their marksmanship at an electronic shooting range.

Zhytomyr oblast

In Zhytomyr, Ukrainian director and soldier Artem Ryzhikov presented his documentary film *A Regular Soldier*—an honest and profound chronicle of the journey of the 130th Battalion of the 241st Brigade of the Kyiv Territorial Defence. This is a film about people who, just like thousands of residents of our oblast, left civilian life behind in an instant and joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. It is a genuine documentary chronicle, filmed directly at the epicentre of events.

According to the Regional Military Administration, an inter-agency practical training session on the application of art therapy techniques took place in Zhytomyr oblast on 16 March. The event was organised by specialists from the psychological support department of the regional National Police. Psychologists from the Security Police, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the 9th Border Guard Detachment named after the Sich Riflemen took part.

Sumy oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that over the past week, 830 enemy UAVs were destroyed or suppressed by electronic warfare systems in the airspace over Sumy oblast. Among them were 748 strike drones and 64 reconnaissance drones. In total, 998 enemy UAVs were detected, with over 80% of aerial targets neutralised.

On 18 March, russian forces attacked the building of a territorial recruitment centre (TCC) in the Zarichnyi district of Sumy with a UAV. At the time of the strike, people were inside the building. There were no fatalities, but a teenager and a woman were injured, Head of the City Military Administration Oleksii Kryvosheienko reported.

The 16-year-old boy was at a public transport stop near the impact site. The attack also damaged a supermarket, vehicles and nearby residential buildings. Windows and balcony blocks were shattered in the courtyards of two neighbouring apartment buildings.

The State Emergency Service informed that during the night of 18 March, a UAV attack in Okhtyrka region damaged transport infrastructure, causing a subsequent fire. According to the National Police, in Kyrykivka community, transport infrastructure, an administrative building, and technical equipment were also damaged.

According to Sumy Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, in the settlement of Krasnopillia, vehicles and about 15 houses were damaged, two of which were destroyed. At approximately 9:30pm on 17 March, russian forces carried out a strike by guided aerial bombs (KABs). Two people were injured.

The Regional Military Administration reported that as a result of russian shelling across the region on 17 March, two civilians were injured. In Krasnopillia community, a 63-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were wounded following a strike by guided aerial bombs (KABs).

Between the morning of 17 March and the morning of 18 March, russian forces carried out nearly 50 attacks on 23 settlements across 10 territorial communities. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy, Shostka, and Okhtyrka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs.
During the day, air raid alerts lasted 14 hours and 10 minutes.

Damage to civilian infrastructure:

  • Sumy community: private houses, a non-residential building, and civilian infrastructure were damaged;
  • Velyka Pysarivka community: a private car and a house were damaged;
  • Kyrykivka community: a non-residential building and civilian infrastructure were damaged;
  • Krasnopillia community: private homes and a car were damaged;
  • Trostianets community; a non-residential building and civilian infrastructure were damaged.

Additional damage from earlier attacks was recorded:

  • Hlukhiv community: an apartment building was damaged;
  • Shostka community: a private house was damaged.

Over the past 24 hours, 26 people were evacuated from border communities with the support of local authorities, emergency services, police, and volunteer organizations.

Chernihiv oblast

The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine reported that on the night and morning of 18 March, russian forces attacked civilian railway infrastructure in Chernihiv oblast by a drone. The UAV struck a locomotive, injuring a 38-year-old train driver, who was hospitalized, as well as the assistant driver.

According to Chernihiv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care, an emergency medical worker was also injured when a medical team responded to a call following the railway shelling in Mena community during the night of 18 March. While providing assistance to the wounded, a second strike occurred. The blast wave damaged the ambulance vehicle.

Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of Koriukivka Regional Military Administration, informed that on the night of 18 March, russian forces attacked Snovsk community by unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of the strikes, a 19-year-old man was injured, and equipment, buildings, and residential houses were damaged. According to the statement, at around midnight a russian drone struck a house in Rohizky, causing a fire.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that over the past day, the enemy attacked Horodnia community. Several strikes were recorded. As a result of the attacks, a two-storey administrative building and an energy facility were damaged.

In Chernihiv region, on 17 March at 11:40am, a russian UAV struck a two-storey building housing employees of Regional Prosecutor’s Office and Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre. The impact damaged the facade, window glazing, and roof of the building. No information on casualties was reported.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed during 17 March, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Semenivka, Snovsk, and Horodnia. The enemy carried out strikes using tube artillery (6 explosions) and FPV drones (24 explosions). Twelve settlements were under enemy fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Nikopol region. Occupying forces continued to attack the region using drones, artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. Strikes targeted the regional centre, as well as Pokrovske rural, Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities.

Synelnykove region. The enemy struck Mezhove and Vasylkivka communities by FPV drones and UAVs. A private house, an outbuilding and a summer kitchen caught fire.

Nikopol region. Occupying forces carried out drone and artillery attacks, targeting the regional centre and Myrove, Marhanets, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities. In Nikopol, a 66-year-old woman was injured. In Pokrovske community, a 48-year-old woman was injured. They received necessary medical assistance. A fire broke out. Seven private houses, a hotel, an outbuilding, enterprises, solar panels, vehicles and a gas pipeline were damaged.

Synelnykove region. Enemy forces struck Pokrovske community by guided aerial bombs. Two houses were destroyed and seven others were damaged.

Kryvyi Rih region. As a result of an FPV drone strike in Zelenodolsk community, a shop and a vehicle were damaged.

Dnipro region. Following a UAV attack in Mykolaivka community, a summer kitchen was damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

The deaths of nine defenders from Vinnytsia oblast have been confirmed: Yevhenii Popov, Oleksii Verbovatyi, Serhii Lohvinov, Viktor Syvak, Oleksandr Buran, Oleksii Terentiev, Oleksandr Honta, Oleksandr Marusiak and Viktor Kovalenko.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Pryiutivka community, residents paid tribute to fallen defender Serhii Herashchenko. He was killed on 9 March near Ryzhivka village, Sumy oblast, while carrying out a combat mission.

In Blahodatne village, Ketrysanivka community, residents paid tribute to Serhii Shkutenko, who was killed in the war with russia. The 46-year-old soldier died on 8 March near Lyman town, Donetsk oblast.

Poltava oblast

Soldier Anatolii Nedosika, call sign “Bizon”, from Poltava oblast, was killed at the front. He died on 3 March 2026 while carrying out a combat mission as a result of a vehicle being struck by a russian FPV drone in the vicinity of Velyka Mykhailivka, Dnipropetrovsk oblast. He had been considered missing. The man was a native of Orzhytsia community. He was 24 years old.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The National Police in Zaporizhzhia oblast reported that on 18 March, in the settlement of Novomykolaivka in Zaporizhzhia region, an explosion occurred in a shop after a serviceman carelessly handled ammunition. The man died at the scene from his injuries. A saleswoman also sustained multiple shrapnel wounds. She was hospitalized, and police are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 17 March, the occupiers carried out 736 strikes on 39 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 20 airstrikes on Veselianka, Orikhiv, Huliaipilske, Dolynka, Yehorivka, Shyroke, Lisne, Rivne, Liubytske, Barvynivka, Svitla Dolyna, Kopani, Zelena Dibrova, Vozdvyzhivka, and Preobrazhenka. 408 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV drones) attacked Bilenke, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Lukianivske, Pavlivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Mali Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Myrne, Hirke, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Tsvitkove, and Vilnianka. There were seven MLRS strikes on Zaporizhzhia, Zaliznychne, Myrne, and Mala Tokmachka. 301 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Lukianivske, Pavlivka, Shcherbaky, Mali Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, and Pryluky. Sixty-six reports were received about damage to homes, non-residential buildings, infrastructure facilities, and vehicles. One person was killed, and one was injured as a result of an enemy attack on Polohy region.

The General Staff reported that as of 16:00 on 18 March, seven attacks took place in the areas of Huliaipole and Myrne, Dobropillia and Staroukrainka towards Huliaipole. One combat engagement is ongoing. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled five enemy attacks near Stepove, Shcherbaky, and Novodanylivka towards Orikhiv. Over the past day, 17 March, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 31 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and two more towards Orikhiv.

The commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert Brovdi, call sign “Madyar,” reported that the russian army attempted to break through the front towards Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia (Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, and Huliaipole sectors), using fog as cover to begin a spring-summer offensive campaign. russian forces launched massive assaults simultaneously on about ten sections, involving infantry, armored vehicles, motorcycles, and mounted units, but the Defense Forces held all positions. According to him, on 17–18 March, Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated more than 900 russian soldiers on Rodynske–Huliaipole section of the front.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 17 March, the enemy attacked Ochakiv community with an FPV drone, and also this morning, 18 March, carried out strikes, preliminarily with MLRS, on Kutsurub community. There were no casualties.

Also, tonight, the enemy attacked the region with Shahed-131/136 UAVs. As a result of the attack and falling debris, an outbuilding of a private house and an overhead power line were damaged in Pervomaisk region. There were no casualties.

The Chief Directorate of the National Police in Mykolaiv oblast reported that two boys aged 14 and 15 were injured as a result of a munition explosion. According to the police, the teenagers found a regenerative cartridge and a liquid, which they later poured into the cartridge. The explosion occurred due to a chemical reaction. The teenagers sustained chemical burns, fractures, and lacerations.

Odesa oblast

Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that during the night of 18 March, russian forces attacked Odesa oblast with strike drones. As a result of the attack, a critical infrastructure facility and part of its equipment were damaged.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, at around 11:00 russian forces shelled a healthcare facility in Bilozerka. As a result of the strike, windows were shattered, and the facade and medical premises were damaged.

Kherson RMA also reported that today, a man sought medical help after being attacked by a russian UAV the previous day at around noon in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. The 51-year-old resident sustained a blast injury and a concussion.

A resident of Bilozerka also sought medical assistance after being injured during the shelling the previous morning. The 77-year-old woman was hospitalized with a blast injury and a concussion.

The Police of Kherson oblast reported that yesterday, 17 March, the russian forces attacked Kherson, Kizomys, Bilozerka, Romashkove, Sofiivka, Blahovishchenske, Dariivka, Zymivnyk, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Dniprovske, Veletenske, Novodmytrivka, Sadove, Naddniprianske, Nezlamne, Beryslav, Ukrainka, Novovoskresenske, Kucherske, Chervone, Bruskinske, Nova Kamianka, Novoraisk, Biliaivka, Novomykolaivka, Novohryhorivka, Zolota Balka, Khreshchenivka, Kozatske, and Vesele. Two apartment buildings, six private houses, a critical infrastructure facility, and three vehicles were damaged. As a result of russian shelling, five people were injured, including two police officers.

The Police of Kherson oblast also reported that officers evacuated a married couple from the coastal village of Havrylivka in Nova Oleksandrivka community. The russian drones destroyed their home.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that communities in Kherson oblast received a batch of fire extinguishers to deal with the consequences of shelling, with support from the Ukrainian FireFighters Foundation. In total, de-occupied communities received about 900 fire extinguishers, which will help residents and local services more effectively contain fires caused by daily russian attacks.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

In Volyn oblast, the soldier who lost his limbs in the war received a new passport of a citizen of Ukraine. Oleksii is a veteran who defended Ukraine and lost his passport during hostilities. He applied for a new passport of a citizen of Ukraine in Kharkiv oblast. And it was there that the procedure for restoring an important document began. Currently, the soldier is undergoing treatment in Volyn oblast.

Zakarpattia oblast

For the 2nd time, memorandums of cooperation have been signed in Uzhhorod with vocational education institutions and business representatives. The goal is to restore prestige to blue-collar professions and open new specialties in educational institutions that will train specialists needed by modern enterprises.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The construction of a modern regional veterans’ space is actively underway in Ivano-Frankivsk. Today, its readiness exceeds 80%, so in a few months the center will open its doors to Defenders who have returned from the front and need comprehensive support.

Lviv oblast

The Road of Life installation has appeared in the center of Lviv. It is about the roads along which soldiers, equipment, ammunition, and humanitarian aid travel to the front. About the paths along which the wounded are taken out. About the routes that need to be maintained, protected, and equipped. During the years of full-scale war, specialists from the State Special Transport Service equipped almost 30,000 km of unexploded barriers and built about 3,000 strongpoints.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne oblast, during field work, warheads of a cruise missile were found. During the inspection of the territory, law enforcement officers discovered fragments and a warhead of a cruise missile. Additionally, after examining the adjacent field, specialists from the explosives service of the Main Directorate of the National Police found another warhead from a missile. With the assistance of local authorities, which provided large-sized equipment, police officers removed the dangerous find from the ground and destroyed it by blowing it up.

Ternopil oblast

Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) arrived in Ternopil oblast on a working visit – Osamu Hattori, chief representative of the office in Ukraine, and Matsumoto Sota, representative of the office. Foreign partners handed over to the oblast a new infrastructure facility – a modern modular bridge. This is the 1st bridge in Ukraine built using Japanese technology. It is designed for a maximum load of 100 tonnes and will serve up to 50 years, significantly improving logistics and traffic safety.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In Khmelnytskyi community, 489 active military personnel received money for personal expenses. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 4.8m.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA reported that the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously) was awarded to soldier Nikita Melnychuk.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Pedro Sanchez, Spanish Prime Minister, reported that the country will allocate a new aid package of EUR 1bn to Ukraine. Part of this aid, financed through the EU’s SAFE instrument, will be directed to the implementation of joint production in the Ukrainian defense industry. Sanchez stressed that Spain will support Ukraine as much as necessary until a just and lasting peace is achieved.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met in a trilateral format with Keir Starmer, Prime Minister British, and Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General. They discussed joint weapons production and coordination in this direction to strengthen Ukraine and the whole of Europe.
