It has been the 1313  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

Since the beginning of the day, the total number of combat engagements along the entire front line stands at 44.
The invaders are striking areas of settlements near the border with the Russian Federation. Artillery shelling hit Halahanivka in Chernihiv region; Rudenka, Novovasylivka, Studenok, Sosnivka, Starykove, and Bila Bereza in Sumy region.

In the Northern-Slobozhanske and Kursk directions today, Ukrainian soldiers repelled three enemy attacks. The enemy also carried out three airstrikes, using six guided aerial bombs, and conducted 71 shelling attacks, including six with multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern-Slobozhanske direction, Ukrainian forces repelled two attacks in the areas of Vovchansk and Ambarne, while one combat engagement is still ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.

In the Lyman direction, the aggressor attacked three times today near the settlements of Kolodiazi, Torske, and in the direction of Stavky.

In the Siversk direction, Defense Forces repelled four enemy attempts to advance near Fedorivka, Serebrianka, and toward Yampil and Dronivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attacked once toward Predtechyne but was repelled.

In the Toretsk direction, the invaders attempted five assaults today near Shcherbynivka, Stepanivka, Pleshchiivka, Poltavka, and Rusyn Yar. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy launched 18 attacks today against our defenders’ positions near Chervonyi Lyman, Lysivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and in the direction of Myrnohrad, Rodynske, and Balahan. One combat engagement continues.

In the Novopavlivka direction, our defenders repelled three enemy attacks near Ternove and toward Andriivka-Klevtsove. Another combat engagement is still ongoing.

In the Hulyaipole direction, our defenders are repelling two enemy attacks near Poltavka, with fighting still in progress. Enemy aircraft struck Zaliznychne and Novoselivka.

In the Orikhiv direction, the invaders conducted no offensive actions.

In the Prydniprovsk direction, the enemy made two unsuccessful attempts to advance and suffered losses. The enemy also carried out an airstrike on the settlement of Olhivka.

As a result of a Russian attack on Ukrainian territory on the night of September 28, four people were killed, including a child. This was reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. More than 80 people sustained injuries of varying severity.

On the night of September 28, Russia attacked Ukrainian territory with nearly 500 strike drones and 40 missiles, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The main directions of the Russian attack were Kyiv and the region, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi region, Sumy region, and Odesa region.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

During the past day, 173 combat engagements were recorded.

In the Southern-Slobozhanske direction, the enemy attacked our units’ positions five times in the areas of Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, and toward Doroshivka.

In the Kupiansk direction yesterday, there were six enemy attacks. Our defenders repelled assaults near the settlement of Petropavlivka and in the direction of Pishchane and Bohuslavka.

A 79-year-old man was killed as a result of artillery shelling in Borshchova, Kharkiv region, on the morning of September 28, according to the regional prosecutor’s office.

In the Derhachi community, the occupiers attacked a civilian car with a drone while it was traveling on the road to Prudiana. As a result of the enemy strike, a 44-year-old man was killed. A 41-year-old woman sustained severe injuries, and a 14-year-old girl suffered an acute stress reaction.

The Russian army carried out several strikes on Slatyne: around 14:30, the settlement was hit by a “Molniya” UAV, and at 15:20, two strikes were launched with rocket artillery, reported the head of the Derhachi community, Viacheslav Zadorenko. All the strikes targeted residential areas, damaging at least six private houses and power lines.

Over the past day, seven settlements in Kharkiv region came under enemy fire.

As a result of shelling in the village of Prykolotne, Vilkhuvatka community, a 42-year-old man was injured.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in Kharkiv region:
▪️ 3 “Molniya” UAVs;
▪️ 1 FPV drone;
▪️ 2 UAVs (type being identified).

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:
▪️ In Kharkiv district: a private house in Kozacha Lopan, a utility building in Ruska Lozova;
▪️ In Kupiansk district: a car in Mostove, a private house in Malyi Burluk, road pavement in Prykolotne;
▪️ In Izium district: dry grass caught fire in Pisky-Radkivski.

At 15:10 on September 27, a Russian FPV drone struck Vodyane, Vilkhuvatka community, Kupiansk district, injuring a 47-year-old man, reported the head of the district administration, Andrii Kanashevych. The injured man received medical assistance but refused further treatment and hospitalization.

Over the past day, Russians carried out 16 strikes with guided aerial bombs (KABs) on the Kupiansk community, reported the head of the Military Administration, Andrii Besedin.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 174 people in the past day. Currently, 37 people remain there. Since the beginning of its operation, a total of 4,902 people have been registered at the point.

Donetsk oblast

Near Lyman, Russian forces conducted 15 assaults over the past day. Enemy attacks were recorded to the north and east of the city, near Shandryholove, Kolodiazi, and Torske, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Nearly 60 battles took place in the Pokrovsk direction in a single day, and more than 20 in the Novopavlivka direction.

Since the start of fighting in the Toretsk sector, the Russian army has lost nearly 60,000 personnel. The enemy’s advances in this area are disproportionate to the amount of infantry expended, said press officer of the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Serhii Khominskyi.

The Defense Forces report redeployment of Russian army personnel from the southern sectors of the front to the east, particularly to Donetsk region. According to the spokesperson of the “Dnipro” Operational-Strategic Group of Troops, Viktor Trehubov, this may be due to slower-than-expected Russian offensive progress and higher losses.

Russian forces attacked Kostiantynivka with FPV drones, injuring at least two people, according to the local military administration. The occupiers also damaged a residential high-rise building.

Two people were injured as a result of the overnight Russian shelling of the Druzhkivka community. The occupiers struck a residential apartment building in the settlement of Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, destroying one of the entrances, reported the head of the military administration, Andrii Pankov.

At the scene, State Emergency Service workers rescued four people: three were evacuated from blocked apartments, and one man was freed from debris, said regional SES spokesperson Veronika Bakhal.

Russian forces attacked rescuers twice during the elimination of shelling consequences in Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka. One drone destroyed a fire truck, and another damaged a vehicle, according to the Donetsk region SES.

More than 1,500 subscribers in the Druzhkivka community were left without electricity due to the shelling, reported the military administration. Power is out in Kurtivka, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, and one of Druzhkivka’s neighborhoods.

Kramatorsk was attacked by two drones around 1:00 a.m., reported the head of the Military Administration, Honcharenko. The strikes hit an open area in a residential neighborhood of the city.

On September 27, police recorded 2,137 enemy strikes along the front line and against residential areas. Eight settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Mykolaivka, Sloviansk; the settlement of Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka; and the villages of Iverske and Illinivka.

A total of 43 civilian objects were damaged, including 31 residential houses.

Three people were injured in Kostiantynivka, which was attacked by a guided bomb, drones, and artillery. Five apartment buildings, six private houses, and two civilian cars were damaged.

In Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, Russians struck with four KAB-250 bombs and an FPV drone, injuring one civilian and damaging 10 apartment buildings, two educational institutions, and a car.

Illinivka was shelled with artillery — one person was injured, and a private house was damaged.

In Druzhkivka, as a result of strikes by three “Italmas” drones and an FPV drone, two apartment buildings, an educational institution, a gas station, and two civilian cars were damaged.

In Sloviansk, Russian forces hit with a “Molniya-2” UAV, damaging two private houses and a gas pipeline. In Mykolaivka, a “Geran-2” UAV damaged an educational institution.

In Lyman, three drones struck two private houses and a civilian car. Three “Geran-2” UAVs attacked Iverske in the Novodonetska community, damaging an apartment building, two private houses, and a cultural center.

Near the temporarily occupied Volnovakha, the “ATESH” resistance movement carried out a sabotage operation on a section of railway used by Russian forces to supply occupation troops in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions.

In Kramatorsk, a poetry collection by local authors titled “Coordinates of Tenderness” was presented. While working on the book, a Russian guided bomb struck the house of compiler Olena Kotova. Despite this, the materials for the book were saved.

Despite shelling and drone attacks, Donetsk region farmers have completed the harvest of early grain crops. Sowing of winter crops will begin soon, reported the Donetsk Regional Military Administration.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past day, in eight cases the occupiers used FPV drones and other types of UAVs against Ukrainian defenders, reported the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Kharchenko. The invaders continue ground pressure in the zone of responsibility: 15 assault attempts were made in the Lyman direction and six more in the Siversk direction.

In Lysychansk, the local gas company requires residents to submit meter readings via a mobile app or by phone. A third option is to visit the office in person. This information is printed on paper bills delivered to residents. However, the city has no mobile internet or communication services. Those with a payphone near their homes line up there, while others are forced to visit the collection point every month.

Russian programs in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, “Zemsky Doctor” and “Zemsky Feldsher,” despite promises of 2 million ruble payments, have recruited just over 20 doctors from Russia in three years.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, on the night of 28 September, russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv oblast with strike drones and cruise missiles. Thirty-one people were injured in the strikes, including three children. Four people were hospitalised in the oblast’s hospitals – three adults and one child. According to the State Emergency Service, as of 11 a.m., the consequences of the russian attack  are still being eliminated in the Bucha and Bila Tserkva districts.

Fires and destruction were recorded in the Bila Tserkva, Fastiv, Bucha, Obukhiv, and Boryspil districts of the oblast.

A fire broke out on the premises of an enterprise in the Fastiv district. Five people, the  employees of one of the bread factory enterprises, were injured. A fire in a private household was also extinguished.

In the Bila Tserkva district, private houses and non-residential premises caught fire. In Bila Tserkva, a fire broke out on the roof of a nine-storey residential building. Six cars were damaged. Two women, aged 56 and 47, suffered acute stress reactions. Medical assistance was provided on site.

In the Obukhiv district, falling debris caused a fire in a farm building and a private garage.

In the Bucha district, a non-residential building caught fire, damaging six apartment buildings (more than 1,000 windows and door structures were broken). Ten private houses were also damaged, with three being destroyed. A large number of cars were damaged or destroyed. The residential complex in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka suffered the most damage, the work is ongoing to deal with the aftermath. Comprehensive assistance is being provided to those affected, psychologists are working on site.

As of the morning of 28 September, 13 people (including one child) were injured and four killed (including a 12-year-old girl) as a result of a massive russian attack in Kyiv. This was reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, the consequences of the shelling were recorded at almost 20 locations in 6 districts of the capital.

In the Solomyanskyi district, the upper floors of a five-story building were destroyed and caught fire. Rescuers also extinguished a fire at a petrol station and on the 3rd and 4th floors of a state medical facility, discovering the bodies of two victims and rescuing five people. A private residence and non-residential buildings were also damaged.

In the Darnytskyi district, debris from the UAV fell on parked cars, the roadway, a kindergarten, and a private residence.

In the Svyatoshyn district, debris fell on a non-residential building, a fire broke out. Debris was also recorded falling in the courtyard of a residential building and in an open area.

In the Holosiivskyi district, three private residential buildings were damaged by falling UAV debris.

In the Dniprovskyi district, a russian attack attack resulted in a fire in a car park.

In the Obolonskyi district, debris fell on non-residential buildings and near residential buildings.

Emergency rescue operations and the elimination of the consequences of the enemy attack are continuing in the capital. To support the affected residents, an aid headquarters has been set up at the Consultative and Diagnostic Centre in the Solomianskyi district.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, fires broke out in Kyiv, causing smog to form over the city as a result of russia’s massive attack. At the same time, as of the morning of 28 September, the level of air pollution in the city is low.

On 27 September, the ‘In Good Memory’ regatta dedicated to the soldiers who died in the russian-Ukrainian war started in Kyiv. The capital’s cruiser yacht club is holding the competition for the first time since 2021. Each crew includes veterans.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated 8.3 million hryvnias in subsidies for the construction of housing for internally displaced persons in Zhytomyr Oblast. The oblast will receive funds from the state budget for the construction of new housing, the renovation of existing residential buildings and dormitories, and the conversion of non-residential premises into residential ones to create temporary accommodation facilities.

Sumy oblast

The State Emergency Service of Sumy oblast reported that a russian attack caused a fire in one of the settlements of Popivka community, Konotop region, destroying residents’ homes and setting farm buildings ablaze. Firefighters worked at the scene until morning.

The Regional Military Administration informed in the morning, russian drones attacked Konotop community. Two civilians — a man and a woman — sought medical assistance.

In Sumy, a night-time strike hit a car park, setting lorries with semi-trailers on fire. The blaze was extinguished.

Between the morning of 27 September and the morning of 28 September, russian forces carried out 167 attacks on 50 settlements in 20 local communities of Sumy oblast. The largest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (10 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (35 strikes), dropped VOG grenades from drones (over 20), and also launched FPV-drone and UAV attacks.

Civilian casualties were reported as a result of russian strikes. According to the Regional Military Administration, russian troops are deliberately targeting civilians with drones.

In Znob-Novhorod community, a 59-year-old man was killed and a 46-year-old man injured in a drone strike. In Velyka Pysarivka community, three civilians – men aged 32, 36 and 43 – were injured in an FPV-drone attack; one man was hospitalised with severe injuries. In Putyvl community, an enemy drone hit a civilian car parked in a yard, though no people were injured.

Consequences of russian strikes in Sumy oblast as of the morning of 28 September:

  • In Richky community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
  • In Znob-Novhorod community, a two-storey house, a shop building, and a private car were damaged.
  • In Putyvl community, a private car was destroyed.
  • In Boromlia community, a fire service vehicle was damaged.
  • In Sumy community, lorries were damaged or destroyed and a civilian infrastructure facility was hit.

Sumy police reported that “White Angels” police evacuation team rescued a 66-year-old immobile man from the five-kilometre border zone. He required medical attention, but constant shelling prevented an ambulance from reaching the community. He was transported to a medical facility. Police also evacuated an 87-year-old woman with impaired vision; she is now safe with her daughter.

Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced that a total of UAH 333m. will be allocated from the state budget’s reserve fund for the completion of fortifications, engineering defences, and non-explosive barriers in Sumy oblast.

Chernihiv oblast

Mena Town Council reported that at around 4am on 28 September, a russian “Shahed” drone struck garages in a residential area of Mena town. Three garages were completely destroyed, one was damaged, and a car was burned out.

During the previous day, infrastructure and energy facilities in Nizhyn region came under russian attack. The strikes caused power outages in six communities and parts of Nizhyn. Repair services are working to restore supply.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that damage from drone strikes was also recorded in Novhorod-Siverskyi, Koriukivka and Nizhyn regions. Civilians were injured: a 39-year-old man in Semenivka community and a 53-year-old woman in Koriukivka community.

Chernihiv Border Detachment informed that throughout 27 September, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out artillery shelling (5 explosions), FPV-drone strikes (32 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (14 explosions).

In Tymonovychi village, Semenivka community, a non-residential building caught fire after three UAV-dropped incendiary devices were used.

According to the Air Force, in September radio-technical units detected twice as many aerial targets over Chernihiv oblast as in August, indicating increased enemy activity.

In Chernihiv, the paediatric ward of the central district hospital has been repaired with EUR 420,000 in funding from the Latvian charity Tavi draugi. Renovation of the hospital’s shelter is also planned. In addition, Chernihiv Regional Psychoneurological Hospital is set to undergo repairs. Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said this followed the visit of Latvian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, Andris Pildegovics, to Chernihiv on 25 September.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Defenders destroyed 10 enemy UAVs, reported the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Mykola Lukashuk.

Once again, Nikopol district came under attack. The occupiers targeted the district center and Pokrovska community with artillery and drones. In Synelnykove district, UAVs struck the Petropavlivka community, causing a car fire. In Dnipro district, a UAV attack sparked a fire, damaging a private house.

The occupiers continued shelling Nikopol district, targeting the district center, Marhanets, and Pokrovska communities with artillery and drones. Two private houses, a car, and a power line were damaged. In Synelnykove district, UAVs struck Pokrovska and Mezhivska communities, causing a fire in which a woman was killed and a private house damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

As a result of a Russian attack, four residential houses were damaged in one of the villages of the Bershad community, reported Bershad Mayor Vitalii Dragan.

Kirovohrad oblast

At night in Kirovohrad region, defenders shot down a Russian UAV, reported the head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, Andrii Raikovych.

Cherkasy oblast

At night in Cherkasy region, defenders shot down five Russian UAVs, reported the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The 100th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade reported that Andrii Polishchuk, veteran of the 100th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, won 5 medals at the Strong Spirit’s Games international sports competition held in Madrid.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 50 packages with food kits; 70 packages of baby diapers and 90 loaves of bread. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (2,180 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Spletinnia Kosice, Valentyn Stefano and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The necessary equipment was provided to the soldiers of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelweiss. It was purchased with funds collected during the IX charity auction. Among the donated items are 200 anti-heat vision raincoats Sokil Chugaister and other equipment that will help the military effectively perform combat missions. The total cost of the assistance is over UAH 967,000.

Lviv oblast

A modern prosthetics center has been launched in Lviv. It was opened on the basis of the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. The center is the result of grant agreements between France and Ukraine. Its creation was financed by the French government, which provided EUR 2.47m. The companies Resilience Orthopedics and Expectise France were involved in the work.

In the village of Navariia, Pustomyty community, during the charity festival of patriotic songs Our Song is Our Weapon, joint efforts managed to raise almost UAH 45,000.

UAH 10,000 from the newlywed couple Kosar from the village of Myklashiv, Pidberiztsivska community was donated to soldiers on the front line.

Zhovtanetsk community donated active headphones, 3 sets of car wheels and energy drinks to the military.

Sokilnytsia Village Council purchased a 10-ton loader for the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo.

Rivne oblast

34 veteran grants have been issued in Rivne oblast since the beginning of the year. The total amount is UAH 14.5m. This is part of the state program ERobota.Your Own Business. It is expected that veterans and their family members who received grants will not only start a business, but also create 62 new jobs.

Ternopil oblast

38 defenders of Ternopil community will receive funds for the necessary equipment. In total, 2,637 servicemen have received such assistance since the beginning of 2025, and 3,198 during 2024.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The Air Defense Forces were active during the night attacks. Enemy targets were shot down. There were no casualties or damage.

Chernivtsi oblast

A farewell ceremony was held in Chernivtsi for Private Ruslan Hryhoriak, soldier of the Military Unit A2582, who was killed defending Ukraine from russian invaders.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Lithuania will provide rehabilitation and psychiatric services to Ukrainian children who were successfully returned from russia. The 1st children are planned to be accepted this fall. Minor children will come to Lithuania with their parents, guardians or other accompanying persons. Their accommodation and meals will be financed. In total, it is planned to accept approximately 150 children per year.
