War in Ukraine today: latest news, 26 October, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 976th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational informatowardsf the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

Since the beginning of the day, the total number of clashes along the entire front line has risen to 90. The occupiers continue to use aviation, mainly anti-aircraft missiles, and carry out attacks in almost all directions in the east and south of Ukraine, especially actively towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. The defence forces are holding the lines and are taking all necessary measures to prevent a breakthrough.

The occupiers did not cease their artillery and aerial bombardment of the territory of Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts. Settlements such as Khrinivka, Oleksandrivka, Yablunivka, Basivka, Timofiivka and Pokrovka came under enemy fire. Enemy aircraft also carried out an airstrike in the Khrapivshchyna region, dropping two guided bombs.

According to currently available information, the enemy carried out 18 airstrikes on the territory of Kursk region, using 29 air defense systems.

Seven clashes took place today in the direction of Kharkiv. Ukrainian troops repelled four russian attacks in the regions of Vovchansk and Starytsia. Three other clashes are ongoing near Starytsia.

Five invaders’ attacks were repulsed by Ukrainian soldiers near Kindrashivka, Synkivka, Kruhliakivka, Berestovo and Pershotravneve  towards Kupyansk. Three other skirmishes took place near Kruhliakivka and Kindrashivka. The enemy is actively using aviation. Pishchane, Hlushkivka, Zahryzove were hit by anti-aircraft missiles, and Berestove was also hit by unguided aerial missiles.

Towards Lyman, the enemy is attacking with air support in the areas of Hrekivka, Makiivka, Ternн, Torske, Serebrianka and Hryhorivka. Since the beginning of the day there have been 12 clashes in this direction, four of which are still ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the occupiers attacked twice in the area of ​​Bilohorivka, one skirmish is still ongoing.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops near Shcherbinivka six times. So far, three attacks have been repelled.

Towards Pokrovsk battles are the most intence. Fierce fighting is taking place in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Krutyi Yar, Mykolaivka and Selydove. So far, the enemy has made 20 attempts to storm Ukrainian positions, 12 of which have been repulsed by our defenders. The occupiers dropped an aerial bomb in the area of Myrnohrad.

In the direction of Kurakhiv, eleven clashes are ongoing in the areas of Izmailivka, Stepanivka, Novodmytrivka, Novoselydivka, Hostre, Dalnie, Antonivka, Yelizavetivka, Katerynivka. Seven enemy attacks have already been repulsed by the AFU.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff report that seven clashes have occured towards Kharkiv direction today. Ukrainian troops repelled four russian attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk and Starytsia. Three skirmishes near Starytsa are ongoing at 16:00.

Five assault actions of the russian federation were repulsed by the Defense Forces near Kindrashyvka, Synkivka, Kruhliakivka, Berestove and Pershotravneve towards Kupiansk. Three more skirmishes are taking place near Kruhliakivka and Kindrashivka.

According to the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office, Rohan was attacked by the Russian Federation in the afternoon of October 26. According to the preliminary data, the russian army hit the village with cluster munitions from the Uragan MLRS; they hit the ground, no one was injured.

At 10:40 a russian missile struck Zahryzove in Izyum district. A private residential building was destroyed. 

Around 11:40, the russians shelled the village of Radkove, Chuhuyiv district. The ammunition hit a private residential building, the demolition of the rubble is ongoing.

The regional administration reported that the body of a 65-year-old man was extracted from the rubble. Another local resident suffered an acute stress reaction.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA reported that around 1:30 p.m., the russians struck the village Radcove in . Staryi Saltiv community, a house and two outbuildings were destroyed. One man was injured, another civilian killed.

The most difficult situation is towards Kupiansk, where the assault actions of the russian army occur around the clock. Every day, from 100 to 200 residents leave for safe places. It is currently not possible to restore networks damaged by shelling. That is why evacuation measures are being intensified.

At 11:53 p.m. of the previous day, Kupiansk, was shelled. A garage caught on fire, and 2 private houses were damaged.

At 12:35 p.m. Bogoduhiv region, Zolochiv TC, Huryiv Kozachok village was fired upon.. An enemy drone crashed into a house, causing a fire.

At 08:00, Izium region, Borova, village Borova was fired upon. 7 private houses were damaged. A  61-year-old woman was killed.

Towards Kharkiv, Ukrainian troops repelled three attacks by russian invaders in Vovchansk region.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried 13 times to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions near Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Vyshneve. Nine clashes were still ongoing in the morning.

As a result of intensifying evacuation measures, 160 people (among them 4 children) were evacuated from Kupyansk and Borova directions over the past day.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff said that the russian troops increased the number of assaults towards Vremivka and Kurakhove.

Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian fighters repelled 46 assaults in the vicinity of  Lysivka, Selydove, and Myroliubivka.

Towards Kurakhove, the AFU stopped 41 attacks near Hostre, Katerynivka, and Novodmytrivka.

Towards Vremivka, the russian army carried out 22 assaults in the Bohoiavlenka and Novoukrainka regions.

Petro Andriushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, said that the occupiers supplied heat to no more than a third of Mariupol’s high-rise buildings,.

The regional police reported that the russian army struck Donetsk oblast 2,511 times over the past day. Russian troops dropped two aerial bombs on Donetsk, and the occupiers hit Rai-Olexandrivka with bombs with a universal planning and correction module. The russian military shelled Viroliubivka with artillery.

Operational situation in the region as of the morning of October 26:

Volnovakha Region. In Maksymivka, Vuhledar TC, 2 houses were destroyed, an enterprise damaged.

Pokrovsk region. In Kurakhove TC, 9 houses in Veselyi Hai, a shop and private houses were damaged.

Kramatorsk region. A person was injured in Mykolaivka community and an administrative building was damaged in Donetsk, 3 warehouses were damaged in Rai-Olexandrivka. 4 houses were damaged in Viroliubivka of the Kostiantynivka community.

Bakhmut region. A school and a high-rise building were damaged in Siversk, and a private house was damaged in Serebrianka. In the Chasiv Yar community, 10 private houses, a high-rise building and 3 non-residential premises were damaged.

In just one day, the russians shelled populated areas of Donetsk region 8 times. 975 people, including 51 children, were evacuated from the front line.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of RMA, reported that o ver the past day 1 resident of Donetsk oblast was injured in Donetsk.

Luhansk oblast

The enemy attacks every day in the direction of G Hrekivka, trying to dislodge the Defense Forces from their positions. The russians also carried out assaults in the Serebrianskyi Forest. The AFU hold back the enemy. The invaders are shelling populated areas, logistic routes and fortifications of the Ukrainian military with artillery and drones.

For the registration of ownership rights to real estate, every resident of the so-called “lpr” must pay a state duty of the russian federation. If the question concerns an apartment, then this amount is 2 thousand rubles per share. Amounts vary for houses, plots of land and farm buildings. But this payment is mandatory. In addition, the occupiers opened five offices in Luhansk region, where residents of other russian-occupied territories can apply for re-registration of real estate. And also with mandatory payment of duty.

In Siversko-Donetsk, there is no schedule and scheme for connecting high-rise buildings to the heat network. They  have  never tested the boiler house that the russians built last winter. That’s why they declare its capacity exclusively based on the calculations of the designers. At the moment, with the onset of cold weather, the invaders cannot even approximately say how many hhouses will be  heated and what temperature it will be.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Mayor Vitali Klychko reported that on the evening of 25 October, a russian drone hit a residential building in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv. The attack killed a child born in 2009. Six other people were injured: one person was hospitalised and the others were medically treated on the spot. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the enemy attack damaged apartments on the 17th and 18th floors of a 25-storey residential building, followed by a fire on the 16th and 17th floors. The fire was extinguished.

A Humanitarian Centre was set up in Solomenskiy district to provide warmth, tea, food, medical and psychological assistance and advice on how to proceed. If necessary, victims who do not have a place to spend the night can get temporary shelter at the territorial centre.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine informed that a woman born in 1968 died and a 13-year-old child was injured as a result of a nighttime russian attack in Boryspil district. A private house and a garage were damaged, and windows in a two-storey dormitory were smashed. In Irpin, a two-storey garage attached to a hostel caught fire due to falling debris. A fire on the roof of a residential building in Obukhiv district was extinguished.

The wreckage of downed enemy targets was recorded in all 7 districts. In Kyiv oblast, as of 13:00, 24 private houses, a dormitory and a hostel, 4 shops, and 4 cars were damaged as a result of the fall of drone debris. In one of the settlements, the building of a lyceum was damaged – windows were smashed, the facade was cut, and a school bus parked next to the institution was damaged. A power line was also damaged, and grass flooring caught fire in 2 districts.

Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced that five more damaged apartment buildings in Kyiv oblast will be repaired at the expense of the Fund for Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression of the russian Federation. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The funds will be used to overhaul three buildings in Irpin and two buildings in Bucha.

Olena Biletska, head of the Ukrainian Women’s Watch NGO, met with the mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, and the deputy commander of the Volunteer Formation of the Irpin City Territorial Community No. 1, Oleksiy Rozhno. At the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the volunteer unit. They also discussed joint work and organisation of events to introduce basic military training for members of the UWG.

The village of Makariv in Kyiv oblast hosted the Cup in memory of soldier Mykola Yefimov, who was killed a year ago while performing a combat mission in Luhansk oblast. At the same time, the community was raising funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zhytomyr oblast

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that during an enemy attack in Zhytomyr oblast, shrapnel damaged an outbuilding. The fire has been extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries.

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration signed a memorandum of cooperation with the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF, the Lumos Foundation and the Coordination Centre. The agreement opens up opportunities for new initiatives to introduce new social services and protect children’s rights in Zhytomyr oblast.

On 25 October, representatives of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Zhytomyr oblast visited the Kurnenska community to summarise the results of the creation of a Volunteer Fire Brigade in the community. During the event, Agnieszka Piasecki, a representative of the International Solidarity Fund, handed over equipment and combat clothing to the members of the fire and rescue unit.

The NGO ‘Modern Format’, together with partners from the Netherlands from the ‘Boot Development Foundation’, is developing a project to renovate the Regional Medical Specialist Centre and plans to attract grant funds for its implementation. The project was presented at the Zhytomyr Medical Institute. 

Sumy oblast

 During night and morning, russians carried out 29 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 62 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Duboviazivka, Esman, Shalyhyne communities. The enemy used mortars and artillery, FPV-drones, and carried out 8 airstrikes by GAB and 3 rocket attacks.

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that in the evening of 25 October, russian forces launched missile strikes on infrastructure in Sumy and Konotop. According to Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin, the attack on Konotop community involved a missile with a cluster warhead. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the russian attack on the community.

Sumy RMA informed that during the day, on 25 October, russians carried out 74 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 153 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Myropilia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Svesa, Seredyna-Buda communities. 

Krasnopillia community: explosive devices were dropped from UAVs (12 explosions), shelling by FPV-drones (12 explosions).

Esman community: the enemy fired by mortars (8 explosions), FPV-drones (7 explosions).

Yunakivka community: the russians hit by artillery (28 explosions), GAB (7 explosions).

Velyka Pysarivka community: russians dropped 5 mines on the territory of the community.

Nova Slobidka community: explosive devices were dropped from UAVs (1 explosion), shelling by FPV-drones (6 explosions).

Seredyna-Buda community: the enemy dropped  5 mines on the territory of the community.

Khotin community: mortar shelling (18 explosions).

Shalyhyne community: the enemy fired by mortars (12 explosions), artillery (5 explosions), dropped explosive devices from an unmanned aerial vehicle (1 explosion), fired an FPV-drone (1 explosion).

Svesa community: artillery shelling (1 explosion).

Bilopillia community: FPV-drones fired (8 explosions), artillery fire (1 explosion).

Myropilia community: the russians hit by artillery (15 explosions).

In Sumy, a farewell was held for former youth national football team player Dmytro Bohachov. The defender, who served as a combat medic, passed away while undergoing treatment at a military hospital. The Ukrainian defender was laid to rest in the Alley of Glory at Sumy’s Baranivka Cemetery. During his football career, the 32-year-old Dmytro played for clubs such as Sumy, Victoria, and Trostianets, with a record of 162 matches, 26 goals, and seven assists.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the regional military administration reported during a “Dialogue Between Authorities and Businesses” meeting that nearly three years since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 20,000 jobs have been created in Sumy oblast. These jobs have contributed to tax revenue, paid wages, and the economic development of the oblast.

Chernihiv oblast

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, over the past day, russian forces attacked four border villages in Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities. The enemy employed mortars, drones, and FPV drones in the assaults.

In Novhorod-Siverskyi community, explosive devices were dropped from drones on t Mykhalchyna Sloboda, resulting in three strikes. In Semenivka community, there were 16 mortar strikes near Liskivshchyna, one FPV-drone strike in Leonivka, and five drone-dropped explosive attacks on Halahanivka.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Sergey Lysak, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, said that a nighttime rocket attack in Dnipro killed 5 people. It is known that 21 people were injured. 

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk City Council, reported that the enemy was shelling Nikopol region all day.  There were about two and a half dozen attacks. They used kamikaze drones, artillery, fired from multiple rocket launchers and dropped ammunition from drones. Nikopol, Pokrov, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivska and Myrove communities were targeted. Petrol stations, cars, businesses and administrative buildings were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

A 22 years old Vladyslav from Vinnytsia has been in russian captivity for 853 days. He was captured on the first day of the full-scale invasion, when he was on the Crimean peninsula. There, he performed tasks as part of the 137th Brigade of a separate Marine battalion.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, relatives and friends of the military came out to hold a rally to remind them of the prisoners and missing persons. It is called “Do not be silent. Captivity Kills”. The participants walked from the Inhul embankment to Maidan Heroes Square. 

Poltava oblast

The Hradyga community will say goodbye to soldier Mykola Kulish, who has been missing for more than 2 years. He voluntarily went to defend Ukraine on the first day of the full-scale invasion of russia.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night, defenders destroyed 11 Shaheds in Cherkasy oblast. 

Mykola Maligonov, a teacher at the Cherkasy academic lyceum ‘Perspectiva’, was killed in the russian-Ukrainian war. Before it became known that he had been killed, Mykola had been out of touch for ten days after leaving for a combat mission.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that on 25 October, the russian military launched 330 attacks across 13 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Specifically, there were 118 artillery strikes on Lobkove, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Malynivka, Levadne, Novoselivka and Huliaipilske. 

Also, State Emergency Services of the oblast reported that on 25 October, sappers neutralised 3 cluster munition elements from a Uragan MLRS.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, said that on the night of 26 October, air defence forces were actively engaged in Mykolaiv oblast.

Odesa oblast

As reported by the Air Force, on the evening of 26 October, air defence forces intercepted a reconnaissance UAV in Odesa oblast. 

According to the RMA, around 6:50pm, an explosion occurred over Odesa due to an enemy reconnaissance drone.

Kherson oblast

According to the RMA, around 2pm, russian forces attacked Bilozirka in Kherson oblast, injuring a 43-year-old woman who sustained blast injuries, a traumatic brain injury and abdominal wounds; she was hospitalised. 

The russian artillery also shelled Stanislav in Kherson oblast, killing 2 men and injuring 3 people (2 men and 1 woman), who were treated for blast injuries and concussions at the scene. 

As reported by the Prosecutor’s Office, around 0:40am, the russian forces dropped explosives from a drone in Kindiika, killing 1 man. 

Around 2:40, artillery struck Bilozirka, hitting a residential building; the body of a deceased woman was retrieved from the rubble.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

3 DJI Mavic 3 Pro (RC) quadcopters, a DJI Mavic 3T quadcopter, an ECOFLOW DELTA 2 charging station, and a Starlink Internet Satelite Dish Kit V2 Roam+Starlink Ethernet Adapter satellite modem were sent to the Platoon of the Unmanned Aerial Systems of the Military Unit A4932. The 11th Artillery Battery of the 4th Artillery Division of the Military Unit A 1325 received a EW Delta Tec system and an EW radiation mask made of Faraday fabric. Aid was sent from Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Slovak city of Vranov is resuming cooperation with Vynohradiv. Stanislav Obitskyi, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Slovakia, is currently in Zakarpattia oblast on a working visit.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Ivano-Frankivsk, plaques were opened to fallen Heroes Oleksandr Dadykin, Andrii Vasylyk and Volodymyr Foremskyi. Commemorative plaques were consecrated on the facade of Lyceum №4. It was here that the Heroes studied in their time.

Lviv oblast

The RMA held a meeting with the officers of the brigade-artillery group of the Azov brigade, Svyatoslav Syry (Horobry) and Ihor Fliorko (Yar). They discussed current needs of Azov and projects that can be jointly implemented for the national-patriotic education of the youth.

As part of the Regional Competitiveness Enhancement Program, another 32 FPV drones were sent to military units. The Department of Economic Policy of Lviv oblast continues to implement the regional Program for Increasing the Competitiveness of Lviv oblast for 2021-2025.

A new rehabilitation department for soldiers, veterans and all those who suffered due to the war has opened in Drohobych. It will work as a division of = Lviv Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital. The inpatient department has 30 beds, outpatient treatment is also available.

Rivne oblast

The RMA held an online meeting with representatives of the Investment Attraction and Support Office. This state institution is engaged in the search and support of large investors. They discussed the possibility of opening a large woodworking and furniture enterprise in Rivne oblast by a company from the Netherlands.

Rivne City Council reported that the community sent a car from partners from the German city of Essen to the military for rehabilitation purposes.

A training course for chaplains organised by Rivne Regional Association of the Ukrainian Church of the Evangelical Christian Faith took place in Rivne. 54 chaplains received certificates. During 3 days, active chaplains, as well as those who are studying to become chaplains, underwent the basics of chaplain service, and training in tactical medicine, providing first aid.

Ternopil oblast

Vyacheslav Nehoda, Head of Ternopil RMA, met with Radek Peh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine, Davyd Novi, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Lviv, and Jana Chernochova, Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic. They discussed urgent issues of cooperation and assistance to Ukraine in wartime conditions.

During the visit to Zboriv community, the Czech delegation brought 11 generators of various capacities, which will be handed over to serve educational institutions and infrastructure facilities.

RMA representatives met with Tomas Ivanauskas, Cultural Attache of the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine, and Yaroslav Vyzniak, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Ternopil oblast. They discussed supporting Ukraine and cooperation.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

During air alerts in Khmelnytskyi, the Air Defense Forces shot down 8 UAVs of the Shahed type. As a result of the attack, there is a partial blackout in 4 settlements of Khmelnytskyi region, including in the regional centre. The hotel premises and windows in two houses were damaged in the attack. Relevant services are working at the scene. Energy companies are doing everything to restore all consumers as soon as possible. No civilians were injured or killed.

Khmelnytskyi community sent 6 unmanned aerial vehicles (3 aircraft with a daytime camera and 3 aircraft with thermal imaging) to units of the Special Operations Forces, as well as additional equipment, namely, launchers, control systems, antennas, service elements, camouflage, etc. worth UAH 12.7m thanks to the budget funds.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi Central City Clinical Hospital received hospital beds, mattresses, medicines and medical equipment from the Holland-Ukraine Foundation and philanthropists.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Armin Papperger, General Director of the Rheinmetall German concern, announced that the concern is building 4 weapons production plants in Ukraine. According to him, the first enterprise has already started work. A production line and a workshop for maintenance of equipment have been opened on it. By the end of the year, they plan to release the first batch of 10 Lynx BMPs there. Three more factories – for the production of gunpowder, ammunition and anti-aircraft systems – are under construction.

For the 1st time in history, an exhibition of modern Ukrainian art was held in British Norwich. It was presented in one of the most visited public spaces in the county – The Forum Norwich. Note that this exhibition will be travelling. Works of contemporary Ukrainian art will also be shown in London, Birmingham, Guildford, Hull and Bradford.
