It has been the 699 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The enemy launched a combined missile attack on Ukraine, using cruise, ballistic, aviation and anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to the detailed information, a total of 44 means of enemy air attack were recorded: 4 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, 15 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles, 8 X-22 missiles, 12 Iskander ballistic missiles -M”, 5 Kh-59/Kh-31 guided air missiles. As a result of combat operations, the following were destroyed by air defense forces 15 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, 2 Kh-59 guided air missiles.

42 combat clashes took place. The enemy also carried out 81 airstrikes and fired 39 salvo rockets at the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of the russian terrorist attacks, there are dead and about 100 wounded civilians, including children. High-rise and private buildings, schools, a sports complex and other civil infrastructure were destroyed and damaged in Kyiv and Kyiv region, Kharkiv and Pavlograd of Dnipropetrovsk region.

The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There were no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Certain units of the Armed Forces of Belarus perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and intelligence activities, attacks populated areas from the territory of the russian federation, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Kozach Lopan, Hatische, Kharkiv region. Over 40 settlements were subject to artillery and mortar shelling by the occupiers, including Tymonovichi, Arkhipivka of the Chernihiv region; Popivka, Atynske, Volfine, Sumy region; Veterinary, Nesterne, Commissary of Kharkiv region.

Towards Kupiansk, our defenders repelled an attack near Synkivka, Kharkiv region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops. Over 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, in particular, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestovka of the Kharkiv region.

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks in the areas of Yampolivka, Torsky, Donetsk region, and 2 more attacks near Beilohorivka, Serebryansk forestry, Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Bilogorivka, Luhansk region, and Terni, Serebrianka, Donetsk region.

Over 10 settlements were shelled with artillery and mortar, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebryansk Forestry of Luhansk Oblast and Torske, Serebryanka, Rozdolivka of Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the Armed Forces repelled 2 attacks near Bohdanivka and Klischiivka, Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical position. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the area of Bohdanivka settlement of Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, Vasyukivka, Bogdanivka, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka, New York of the Donetsk region.

Towards Avdiivka, our defenders repelled 4 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka and another 8 attacks in the Pervomaiskyi and Nevelskyi districts of Donetsk oblast, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our troops. About 15 settlements, including Oleksandropil, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretine, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Netaylovo of Donetsk region, were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Mariinka, the Armed Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. The occupiers, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical position 9 times. The enemy also carried out airstrikes in Kostiantynivka area of Donetsk region. Krasnohorivka, Marynka, Pobyeda, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Elizavetivka were shelled with artillery and mortar fire.

The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions towards Shakhtarsk. They carried out an airstrike in Urozhainy region of Donetsk oblast. More than 10 settlements, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Prechistivka, Zolota Niva, Blahodatne, and Urozhane of Donetsk oblast, were hit with artillery and mortar.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, our defenders repelled 4 attacks south of Krasnoe, west of Verbovoi and Robotine, Zaporizhzhia oblast, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to restore the lost position. Over 25 settlements, including Charivne, Mali Shcherbaki, Stepove, Lobkovo, Pyatikhatky, Stepnohirsk, and Plavni of the Zaporizhzhia oblast, were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.

Towards Kherson, the enemy carried out airstrikes near Kachkarivka, Mylovi, Beryslav of Kherson oblast. The regional center of Kherson oblast and regions of Mykhailivka, Sablukivka, Beryslav, Sadove, Antonivka, Stanislav of Kherson oblast and Solonchaky of Mykolaiv oblast were hit by enemy artillery fire. The occupiers also shelled the village of Ivanivka in Kherson oblast with rocket launchers.

The enemy does not give up its intention to knock out the Ukrainian units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, the enemy carried out 7 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our troops.

The aviation of the Armed Forces struck 10 areas of buildup of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 2 anti-aircraft missile systems and 1 enemy control point.

Units of rocket forces and artillery struck 1 area of buildup of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 2 anti-aircraft vehicles, 9 artillery vehicles and 1 EW station of the enemy.

The government allocated an additional UAH 657 million to meet the needs of the military. The Cabinet of Ministers used the reserve fund of the state budget for the urgent needs of combat brigades of the Armed Forces. The Ministry of Defense will allocate this money to purchase equipment and weapons, optical and thermal imaging devices, communication equipment, ammunition production, repair and maintenance of equipment, as well as spare and component parts for it. Each of the teams forms this need individually. In total, the government allocated UAH 657 million to the Ministry of Defense (including UAH 10.7 million to the State Special Transport Service). In addition, 10.524 million UAH were allocated to the Main Directorate of Intelligence.

Ukraine will ban any transport connection with russia for 50 years. The Cabinet of Ministers will submit proposals for a 50-year ban on any transport connection with russia — road, rail, air and sea. Proposals will be developed within a ten-day period in accordance with the law “On Sanctions”, according to Cabinet Order No. 39 of January 19, 2024.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Volodymyr Fito, Head of the public relations service of the Ground Forces Command, reported that almost 100 units of russian military equipment were destroyed towards Lyman-Kupiansk.

There were combat actions, specifically, near Makiivka, Bilohorivka and in Serebrianka forest. The enemy launched 14 airstrikes and used 45 kamikaze drones. The number of artillery and mortar attacks has increased as 720 of them were registered over the day.

Our defenders managed to eliminate 255 invaders and destroy 98 pieces of their equipment. The list includes seven tanks, 14 infantry fighting vehicles and two armoured personnel carriers.

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that around 4 and 7:20 am the invaders attacked Kyivskyi and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv. Preliminary, they used X-22 missiles.

The strikes killed 6 people and injured at least 51, including two children aged 10 and 12. Five people are in critical condition. Apartment buildings, an educational institution and other exclusively civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

According to Serhii Bolvinov, Head of the Regional Police Investigation Department, seven people were killed as a result of the missile strikes on Kharkiv: a man near a half-destroyed nine-storey building; a woman was pulled from the rubble of a five-storey building, but did not survive; a woman was an accountant at a scientific enterprise that was also hit by russian missiles; the fourth victim can only be identified through DNA analysis: a 59-year-old woman died in hospital after receiving injuries from a missile strike; the bodies of a 21-year-old woman and a dog were removed from the rubble of the entrance of a five-storey building destroyed by a missile strike; rescuers removed the bodies of another killed woman and her eight-year-old daughter from the rubble.

Serhii Bolvinov, Head of the Regional Police Investigation Department, reported that two people may be under the rubble of a five-storey building at the site of one of the hits in Kharkiv, one of whom is a 9-year-old boy.

The press service of the City Council informed that as of 1 pm, 112 apartment buildings and six private houses in Kyivskyi and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv were damaged by russian missile strikes. At least 3,400 windows have been broken and more than 300 windows have already been covered by utility companies.

Utilities have managed to restore heat supply to 125 of the 126 damaged apartment buildings. The last building is still undergoing shelling repairs and examination of the system.

As a result of the hostile attack on Saltivskyi district, 1,008 residential and 893 legal consumers were cut off from electricity. As of today, power supply has been restored to 9125 residential customers and 771 legal entities. Restoration works are ongoing.

More than 110 volunteers from 19 charitable organisations also joined in to help clear the rubble, close windows, provide psychological support to the victims and provide hot lunches.

Kharkiv oblast has received OSBs from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. All those affected by the hostile shelling will receive financial assistance from the UN in the amount of UAH 10,800.

At around 3:40 am the enemy shelled Balakliia. An educational institution was damaged and a two-storey building, an administrative building and two residential buildings partially destroyed. An 88-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were injured, their condition is moderate.

At 2 am, the invaders attacked Vilcha village, Chuhuiv region. A private house was damaged.

About 20 settlements of Kharkiv oblast were under enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday, including: Udy of Bohodukhiv region, Okhrimivka, Zemlianky of Chuhuiv region, Khatnie, Dvorichna, Masiutivka, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Berestove of Kupiansk region.

The enemy launched airstrikes near Hraniv of Kharkiv region and Hryhorivka, Pishchane of Kupiansk region.

Yesterday at 9:20 am the enemy shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region. A residential building was damaged. There were no casualties.

At 2:30 pm, the enemy attacked Hryhorivka village, Kupiansk region. The type of weapon was KAB. 32 houses and an educational institution were damaged.

At 4 pm, the invaders shelled Kupiansk. The type of weapon was a Pion self-propelled artillery system. A man was killed, his identity and age are being established. A 67-year-old man was injured.

At about 1 pm, the invaders shelled Ivashky village, Bohodukhiv region, with artillery. There were no casualties.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 4 enemy attacks near Synkivka, Kupiansk region.

During the day, combined groups of bomb experts demined 5.8 hectares of territory and destroyed 187 explosive ordnance. Mine clearance is ongoing.

Donetsk oblast

Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that two residents of Kramatorsk and Kurakhivka were killed by russian shelling on 22 January. Two people were also injured in Kramatorsk and Myrnohrad and one person in Siversk.

The press service of Donetsk police informed that the invaders targeted 8 settlements: Avdiivka, Kramatorsk, Myrnohrad, Siversk cities, Hrodivka, Kurakhivka settlements, Krynytsia and Predtechyne villages.The Russian army attacked with Iskander, S-300, Grad, artillery and drones. 89 civilian objects were destroyed, including 21 residential buildings, a kindergarten, a shop, an administrative building, businesses, a warehouse, an outbuilding, garages, a tractor and 55 cars.

Russia launched an Iskander missile at Kramatorsk. One civilian was killed and two injured. Two private houses, an administrative building, a garage cooperative and cars were damaged.

The invaders hit Kurakhivka with artillery, killing a man. 11 private houses and an enterprise were damaged.

Two people were injured in Myrnohrad as a result of two S-300 missiles. 8 apartment buildings, a shop, an educational institution and 50 civilian cars were damaged.

Another person was injured in Siversk.

The enemy also shelled Hrodivka, damaging a livestock complex and a grain warehouse.

Selydove community has been without gas supply since the beginning of the full-scale invasion due to russian shelling. There are 171 houses without centralised heating.

Vitalii Barabash, Head of Avdiivka City Military Administration, reported that 1,093 people remain in the city. Another evacuation is planned. As the situation worsens, residents are leaving more actively.

Yesterday power engineers managed to repair a number of damages and restored electricity to 7,554 families in 11 settlements.

Vadym Liakh, Head of Sloviansk City Military Administration, informed that educational centres will be set up in the school and kindergarten shelters to enable children to study, exercise and spend their free time. Not only school students, but also preschoolers will be able to attend.

20 Days in Mariupol has been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary Feature category. The film was made by director and photographer Mstyslav Chernov, photographer Yevhen Malolietka and producer and journalist Vasylisa Stepanenko. They were the last journalists to cover the beginning of russia’s destruction of Mariupol.

Mariupol City Council said that Mariupol residents formed a chain of unity on the occasion of Unity Day. IDPs from Mariupol took part in a rally of unity in Kalush, Lviv, Uzhhorod, Odesa, Kyiv, Vinnytsia and in total, in sixteen cities across the country.

Dmytro Lubinets, the Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights of Ukraine, stated that the invaders have taken children with disabilities from Donetsk oblast to russia for “rehabilitation”. They took 17 children with diseases of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system from the temporarily occupied territories to russia. Under the cover of medical care, they were taken by a Russian Ministry of Defence plane to the Ogonyok rehabilitation centre near moscow. According to the Ombudsman, Mariia Lvova-Bielova helped to arrange this.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the enemy intensified offensive actions near Makiivka, storming the positions of our military there. Yesterday combat actions in the area did not stop since the morning. Residential buildings were hit with artillery and a 43-year-old local resident was killed. Karmazynivka, Nevske and Dibrova also suffered from enemy shelling.

In total, five enemy attacks were repelled near Makiivka, Bilohorivka and in Serebrianka forest. In addition, the invaders tried to advance near Terny but it is very close to Nevske, a little further south.

Russian aviation operated along the entire frontline. They supported ground attacks in Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest.

A strike from the sky also hit Novoiehorivka towards Kupiansk.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

On January 23, the russians carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine – during the air raid, explosions rang out in Kyiv and the oblast.

As a result of a missile attack by russian troops in the Kyiv oblast, four people were injured, high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, and cars were damaged by fragments of enemy missiles. The State Emergency Service reported that rescuers eliminated the consequences of the attack in the Bucha and Obukhiv regions.

The State Emergency Service reported that as a result of the russian missile attack in Kyiv, 22 people were injured. A total of 55 people were evacuated and rescued. 28 objects were damaged, including residential buildings, a medical facility, educational institutions, and cars. The Rescue Service received 176 reports of explosions and fires in Svyatoshynskyi, Pecherskyi and Solomyanskyi districts. Almost 200 rescuers and 40 pieces of equipment worked at 20 different locations.

According to the military administration, 13 people were hospitalized in Kyiv, including three children. One person was in a state of clinical death, doctors were carrying out resuscitation measures. Medics treated a 13-year-old boy and six adult victims on the spot.

In the Svyatoshynskyi district of the capital, as a result of falling debris, balconies from the 1st to 5th floors of a residential building and 4 apartments were damaged, a non-residential two-story building and cars caught fire. In Solomyanskyi district, the blast wave blew out windows in an apartment building, several apartments caught fire, and a two-story non-residential building was destroyed. In the Pecherskyi district, a fire broke out as a result of hitting a non-residential building. In the Darnytskyi district, several places where debris fell were recorded, in particular, on the roof of a 9-story residential building and near the territory of a kindergarten.

The Head of Kyiv Vitaliy Klychko said that an unexploded warhead of a missile was found in one of the apartments in a residential building in the Svyatoshynsky district. The residents of the building were evacuated. Pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service discovered and safely removed the warhead of the Kh-101 rocket.

The press service of the football club Lokomotiv, which plays in the Second League of the country’s championship reported that during a massive russian missile attack on civilian infrastructure, the base of the club was damaged. The base suffered significant damage, all victims were provided with assistance. The training process is temporarily suspended.

The UN Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, visited Irpin, where the complex restoration of private houses that were damaged or destroyed as a result of russian aggression is underway. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) provided construction materials for the repair or reconstruction of 70 private houses at the intersection of Bagirova Street and Hostomel Highway. As the head of Kyiv RMA Ruslan Kravchenko reported, major repairs have been made in 31 private houses, other houses are being rebuilt from scratch.

A photo exhibition of the works of the fallen soldier and the author of the collection “Poems from the Embrasure” Maksym “Dali” Kryvtsov was opened in Kyiv. The exhibition takes place in the bar “Squat 17B”.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr volunteer Yuliya Tolmachova received an award from President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on the occasion of the Day of Sobornosty. She was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, 1st degree. As reported by the head of Zhytomyr RMA Vitaly Bunechko, since 2014 the volunteer has been driving front-line aid for the Ukrainian military, and since the beginning of the full-scale war, she has been doing it every week. During the delivery of a humanitarian cargo in 2017, Yulia came under fire and received numerous injuries.

Zhytomyr Community Foundation reported that more than 300,000 hryvnias were collected during a charity concert for the Day of Sobornosty in the city. With the funds that were collected during the preparations for the concert, the foundation has already purchased two attack drones, which were handed over to the defenders. The funds collected at the concert will be enough to purchase another drone.


Sumy oblast

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that on January 23, at 7:05 a.m., the russians launched a missile attack on critical infrastructure facilities in the city of Shostka. They noted that all the necessary services are working on the spot. Information about victims and destruction is being clarified.

At night, the russian military carried out 2 shellings of the oblast. Two border communities of Sumy oblast were hit by mortar fire: Seredina-Buda – 2 hits, Znob-Novhorodske – 3 hits.

During the past day, the russians carried out 40 shellings – a total of 186 explosions were recorded. Khotyn, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Seredina-Buda and Svesa communities were under enemy shelling.

On January 22, the Bilopillia community came under shelling from mortars (12 explosions) and artillery (24 explosions), and an FPV type drone hit was also there (3 hits).

The russians fired with artillery (28 explosions), mortars (9 explosions), SPG and AGS grenade launchers (39 explosions) on the territory of Velyka Pysarivka community. In addition, they dropped VOG with the help of a UAV (4 explosions) and hit with drones of the “FPV” type (2 explosions).

On the territory of the Krasnopillia community, the dropping of VOGs using UAVs (6 explosions) and mortar fire (4 explosions) were recorded.

Esman (9 mines), Khotyn (25 hits), Svesa (2 hits) and Seredina-Buda (8 hits) communities were hit by mortar fire. With artillery, the enemy hit Yunakivka (8 hits) and Svesa (3 hits) communities.

In Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts, 18,500 hectares of forests remain mined. As reported in the Northern Forestry Office, forestry was affected, and a significant area of forest massifs was mined as a result of the russian occupation at the beginning of the full-scale war. In particular, according to foresters, 84 forest farms in these regions fell into the zone where hostilities were taking place; more than 456 thousand hectares of the forest fund were affected as a result of russian aggression; more than 35 thousand hectares received the status of a territory that is dangerous and potentially contaminated with explosive objects.

Chernihiv oblast

Russian troops carried out 5 shellings of the Semenivka community of the oblast. The enemy made 38 mortars hit   in the direction of Karpovychi, Arkhipivka and Bleshnia.

Vyacheslav Chaus, the Head of the regional military administration announced that compensation for damaged housing in the oblast was paid to 1,568 applicants for a total of UAH 215 million. Also, 114 certificates were issued for housing destroyed by the russians, one certificate has already been applied. He reminded that more than 13,500 objects were damaged or destroyed on the territory of the oblast, more than 80% of them were housing stock.

Chernihiv RMA reported that 120 recovery projects being implemented in the oblast have been added to the DREAM State Recovery Management Digital Ecosystem. Almost 30 communities of the oblast work with this system,.

JSC Chernihivoblenergo received equipment from Latvian partners. These are 108 switchboards for use in power distribution networks manufactured by the Latvian company “Jauda”. The equipment was purchased with funds raised as part of the campaign organized by the Latvian state institution Latvenergo with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, the Ministry of Economy of Latvia and the charity fund Ziedot.lv.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

In the evening the occupiers launched two kamikaze drones at Nikopol. Also in the evening and late at night they carried out two artillery attacks. They shelled district center and Myrove community. About half a dozen shells were fired. A car wash was damaged in Nikopol. Fortunately, people were not injured.

In the morning an enemy missile was shot down over Pavlohrad region by the Air Command East.

One person was killed in Pavlohrad so far. Another man received all the necessary medical care. As a result of the shelling 8 multi-storey buildings, a gymnasium and a music school were damaged in Pavlohrad. There are also damages in the private sector due to falling debris.

An enemy missile was destroyed over Dnipro region by the military from the Air Command East.

The morning missile attack on Pavlohrad region damaged 4 educational institutions, a rehabilitation center, a sports complex, a cultural center, 15 multi-storey buildings, more than three dozen private houses, a truck and a car.

In the evening the invaders launched a missile on Dnipro itself. It was shot down by the Air Defence Forces. Due to the falling debris the fire broke out. 

During the day the enemy shelled Nikopol region 7 times. They launched 4 kamikaze drones and fired artillery 3 times. In Nikopol a sanatorium, an administrative building, 10 private houses were damaged, outbuildings were destroyed and damaged, cars, gas pipelines and power lines were hit. Marhanets and Myrove communities were also targeted. A private enterprise was damaged. People were not injured.

Vinnytsia oblast

Students of Vinnytsia Higher Vocational School No. 11 made 23 trench stoves during their locksmithing classes. They sent them to the military on the frontline. Since the beginning of the year they have been making stoves for the defenders during their free time. The next 6 stoves made by the students will be passed on to the school’s graduates who are now defending the country. The students will also sent a Kung car to the frontline. The car was on the school balance sheet. The students will convert it specifically for the military needs.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi paid tribute to the three soldiers. Oleksandr Levytskyi, Ruslan Dinul, and Mykhailo Trubchaninov.

Oleksandr Levytskyi served as a machine gunner of the rifle division. He was killed on January 9 near Ivanivske village, Bakhmut region. He was 22 years old.

Ruslan Dinul was killed in action on January 9 near Klishchiivka village, Bakhmut region. He was 42 years old.

Mykhailo Trubchaninov served as the third rifle division commander of the third rifle company. He was killed on January 14 near Kozachi Laheri village, Kherson region. He was 53 years old.

Poltava oblast

Poltava region paid tribute to defenders Ihor Parasochka, Oleh Tkachenko, Mykhailo Vozniuk.

Ihor Parasochka was 37 years old. The soldier lived in Veselyi Podil village of Semenivka community. He was killed as a result of enemy missile attack on Desna village where the Armed Forces of Ukraine training center was located. It happened on May 17, 2023.

Oleh Tkachenko lived in Kremenchuk. The soldier was 51 years old, had served in the Armed Forces since January 2023 and had the rank of sergeant. The defender was killed on January 13 while performing a combat mission as a result of shelling near Synkivka village, Kharkiv region.

Senior soldier Mykhailo Vozniuk was 31 years old. Originally from Volyn ‘ oblast but lived in Kremenchuk. He was killed in action on January 17 near Vasiukivka village, Soledar community of Donetsk region.

Cherkasy oblast

One of the units received +40 FPV drones with all the necessary equipment from Cherkasy region. They were purchased under the Territorial Defence regional program.  The birds are extremely important on the front lines. They save our defenders’ lives. They help in reconnaissance and targeting the enemy and its equipment.

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Zaporizhia RMA reported that on January 22, the russian military conducted 147 strikes on cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Novodarivka was targeted twice by aircraft, and 36 drones were used and 109 artillery shells were fired at other settlements.

The press service of the Berdiansk Border Guard Unit reported that during a massive attack by the russian military on Zaporizhzhia axis, border guards destroyed ten russian FPV drones.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv RMA reported that in Mykolaiv oblast, the russian military launched attacks on settlements using FPV drones. In Chornomorsk community, an 89-year-old man sustained injuries from a drone explosion, and he is receiving necessary medical care, but currently, his condition is critical.

At 13:45, russian forces targeted Dmytrivka village in Kutsurub community with an FPV drone, resulting in an explosion that damaged a private vehicle. No casualties were reported. Subsequently, at 14:43, the water area near the Ochakiv community was shelled with artillery. There were no casualties reported.

On January 23, Mykolaiv oblast received a delivery of a truck carrying daily food rations for the population affected by the war. This support was made possible through the collaboration of the donor organization Renew Democracy Initiative and the NGO “West Support in Ukraine”. This program was initiated in 2023 in Mykolaiv oblast and continues its successful operation in 2024, thanks to the joint efforts of donors and Ukrainian partners.

Odesa oblast

The Southern Defense Forces informed that on January 23, 3 subsurface launch platforms, equipped with a total of 20 Kalibr missiles ready for deployment, are on duty in the Black Sea. This indicates a high level of danger.

On January 22, in commemoration of Ukrainian Unity Day, the art project “Please, Free the Birds!” was unveiled at the Odesa Historical and Local Lore Museum. The initiative, spearheaded by the Civil Liberties Center and coordinated by the NGO “Association of Women of Ukraine “Diya/Action”, is aimed at supporting civilians illegally detained by russia. The project underscores the plight of thousands of civilians taken by russian forces from Ukraine, currently held in prisons, barracks, and basements, enduring both physical and moral cruel treatment.

Yoshida Hirofumi, a Japanese orchestral conductor, is known as the Chief Guest Conductor of the Odesa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre since 2021. His last visit to Odesa was in September 2023, when he was directing Puccini’s opera “La Bohème.” Presently, he plans to organize a charitable concert featuring a Ukrainian orchestra in Japan, aiming to bring increased attention to the war in Ukraine.

Kherson oblast

The russian military shelled Central district of Kherson, injuring a 52-year-old man. A 70-year-old man was killed in Korabelny district near the entrance.

The russian military conducted an airstrike on Sablukivka village in Beryslav district, targeting a private. Two local residents were killed.

In Kindiivka, a 74-year-old woman was injured due to russian strikes.

Beryslav in Kherson oblast was attacked by russian drones, injuring a 47-year-old man.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that today, the russian military dropped ordnance from a drone on rescuers tackling a fire in Kherson oblast. The commander of the SES unit was injured and hospitalized.

Russian forces launched airstrikes on Beryslav in Kherson oblast. They targeted a store, dropping a guided bomb that completely destroyed the building. There were no casualties.

According to the Southern Defense Forces, on January 22, Ukrainian military forces on the left bank of Kherson oblast eliminated 11 russian occupiers. They also destroyed a “Grad” MLRS, a tank, 7 cannons, 2 self-propelled assault guns, the “Murom-M” video surveillance system, 2 boats, 12 vehicles, and a UAV control point.

Olexander Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, reported that on January 22, the russian military 91 times shelled settlements in the region, targeting residential districts. One person was killed, and two others were injured.

Art curators identified 5 paintings stolen by russian military personnel during their retreat from Kherson. These artworks, including pieces of Volodymyr Patyk “Mines of Chervonohrad”, Viktor Tolochko “Silence”, Oleksii Kantemyrov “On the Rosa”, Mykola Andronov “Morning” and Viktor Kalinin “The One Who Unseated the Horse”, are currently unlawfully held at the Central Museum of Taurida in Crimea, among other stolen art.

In Novovorontsovka community in Kherson, 5 mobile shelters were received from Kherson Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. These protective equipment were provided to Novovorontsovka, Osokorivka, and Khrechshenivka.

Volyn oblast

Lutsk received humanitarian aid from Agatha Kornhauser-Duda, First lady of Poland. The city council will send the received assistance, which includes thermal vehicles and chargers, to servicemen of the 100th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great.

Zakarpattia oblast

Representatives of Zakarpattia Regional Council with ISS Global Policy Director Andrew Wilson. They discussed the initiative of ISS Ukraine to develop investment passports for communities.

The For the Development of Zakarpattia badge was presented by the leadership of the oblast to Bishop Nilo, Bishop Varsonofius of Uzhhorod and Zakarpattia OCU and to the administrator of the Mukachevo Greek-Catholic Diocese. They discussed the implementation of joint social and humanitarian projects in the oblast, thanks to which it is possible to provide the necessary assistance to IDPs and military personnel.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Relatives of Hero of Ukraine Vitalii Bondaruk from Prykarpattia received a certificate for housing from the Head of State. The other day, Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed out another 30 certificates for servicemen and relatives of fallen defenders. Those defenders who have been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. Anna, the wife of the fallen Hero Vitalii Bondaruk, was present at the awarding ceremony. For personal courage and heroism, the defender was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star order.

Lviv oblast

The team of the mine in Chervonohrad region purchased a Mavic 3 Pro drone worth UAH 80K for a colleague who defends Ukraine as part of the 103rd brigade of the 63rd separate battalion of Chervonohrad Territorial Defense. In total, during the New Year collection, employees collected UAH 214,8K. They bought anti-aircraft guns for defenders.

In Velikomostov community, Chervonohrad region, community residents raised over UAH 116K for the Armed Forces. Employees of the city council and communal institutions, residents of Velyki Mosty and the village Reklynets and the 3rd grade of the Velikomostiv Lyceum joined the gathering. At the fundraiser, members of the community purchased 4 FPV dronesfor aerial scouts serving in Bakhmut.

The father of Taras Matviyev, Hero of Ukraine, sent another volunteer support to the soldiers of the 24th Brigade named after King Danylo. As part of this brigade, his son defended Ukraine from the russian invaders. Taras Matviyev was killed on July 10, 2020, during mortar fire, rescuing his soldiers from a burning dugout. Posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Golden Star Order.

Students of Lviv National Medical University sent over 1,5K reusable heating pads to the front for military units and other armed formations through volunteers.

A three-day regional forum Digitalization in Ukraine 2024 was held in Lviv oblast. Representatives of Ministries, central executive authorities, regional military administrations and territorial communities took part in the Forum. They discussed goals and key indicators of regional digitization for 2024, and the exchange of experience.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast continues to work on improving the notification system. During the meeting in the RMA was discussed the importance of replacing equipment with more modern ones in Varasha and Rivne.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Serhii Vyhovskyi and Oleksandr Vyhovanets with For Labor and Victory medals. Volunteers Serhii and Oleksandr are craftsmen from Radyvylov who, among other things, equip “banderomobiles” with turrets for the Ukrainian military.

A new anti-radiation shelter was opened in Babinsk Lyceum of Babinsk Village Council. The building is designed for 280 people, and its total area is 460 m².

A series of training sessions for the first group of specialists engaged in the implementation of veteran policy in the oblast has been launched. Currently, they will train representatives of communities and RMA of Rivne district.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a joint coordination meeting of the Cluster on Protection of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine, the Cluster on Management and Coordination of Temporary Residence Places and international non-governmental organizations on strengthening the coordination of humanitarian response in Ternopil oblast. They discussed the current situation in work with IDPs and summarized the results of work in 2023.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi firefighters received 13 Kercher drainage pumps and hoses for them. Also, 7 generators of different capacities were sent for the needs of the community. Help was received from the partner city of Stuttgart.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA presented high state awards to Bukovyna residents who support the Armed Forces of Ukraine with their activities. Awards of the President of Ukraine For the Defense of Ukraine were presented, and law enforcement officers, medics, and representatives of social protection received awards from the International Academy for the Protection of Human Rights.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Poland became another country that joined the G7 Vilnius Declaration on Security Guarantees for Ukraine.

NATO concluded contracts for the purchase of about 220K 155-millimeter artillery ammunition worth $1.2 bln. Part of the shells will be delivered to Ukraine.

Rustem Umyerov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, informed that Belgium plans to provide Ukraine with over €600 mln in military aid.

Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, met with Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister. They discussed the issue of unimpeded movement of goods across borders, cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in the field of energy, in particular, the development of joint interconnectors.

Vitalii Koval, Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, held an online meeting with representatives of the Office of Technical Assistance of the State Treasury of the US Department of Finance, led by Director of the Banking and Financial Services Program, Audrey Linhorst. The meeting was also attended by senior advisors of OTA and the coordinator of the program in Ukraine. They discussed further cooperation.

The film 20 Days in Mariupol was nominated for the Oscar in the Best Documentary category. The picture by Mstislav Chernov and Yevhen Maloletka tells about the brutal siege of the Ukrainian city by the russians, as a result of which tens of thousands of people were killed. The film documents the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the bombing of the maternity hospital, and the rescue of journalists from the besieged city. In December 2023, the film was immediately included in two short lists of the Oscar film award – in the categories Feature Documentary Film and International Feature Film.

In Poland, a chain of unity was formed for the Day of the Assembly of Ukraine. The rally was organized by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Krakow.
