Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, and 14 more attacks in the vicinities of Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). Lieutenant General, Serhii Naiev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, says that russia has up to 19K troops in the three regions bordering Ukraine. It continues its open armed aggression against Ukraine in Briansk, Kursk and Belhorod oblasts. Enemy military units are conducting reconnaissance, shelling border areas, using aviation and kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles, and launching ballistic and guided missile strikes. At least 50 residents were injured last week as a result of russian shelling and another man injured in a shell explosion in the forest. 8 people were killed in the shelling of Vovchansk, Izium, Kupiansk and Kharkiv between December 25-31. Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that 11 people injured in the shelling of Kharkiv on 30 December remain in medical institutions of the region. There are 2 victims in the surgical department. Another 6 victims are being treated in neurosurgery departments. Doctors assess their condition as stable. Also, 3 victims are in stable condition in the polytrauma unit. A 16-year-old boy, who suffered cut wounds to his head and abrasions to his back, was discharged from hospital in satisfactory condition.
Yesterday about 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were under enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including Veterynarne, Kozacha Lopan of Kharkiv region, Ohirtseve, Vovchansk, Budarky of Chuhuiv region, Bolohivka, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove of Kupiansk region.

At around 1:30 pm, there was an enemy shelling of Ivashky village, Bohodukhiv region. A gas pipeline and two apartment buildings were damaged.
At 4:50 pm, the invaders attacked the territory of an enterprise in Chuhuiv. A hangar building was partially destroyed and a warehouse damaged. Three people were injured and two others rescued.
In 2023, more than 27K new IDPs were registered in Donetsk oblast and these are people who changed their place of residence within the region. There are currently more than 550K of them in the region. At the same time, according to the regional administration, 525K people live in the region. In Pokrovsk, utility workers are repairing the damage caused by the shelling on New Year’s Eve. Russian troops launched seven Tornado missiles. The shelling destroyed 5 private houses, while another 31 private houses and 22 apartment blocks were damaged. A medical facility, a boiler house and a gas pipeline were also damaged. 89 houses and a dormitory were left without gas supply.
Kostiantynivka City Military Administration reported that on the night of January 1, russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka with Uragan multiple rocket launchers. The shelling damaged five private houses, a gas pipeline and power lines. There were no casualties.
Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that at night and in the morning of January 1, russian troops shelled Ocheretyne community with artillery, killing one person and injuring another. He also noted that russian troops shelled Pivdenne village of Toretsk community with artillery. A person was killed in the shelling.
The press service of Donetsk police informed that residents were injured during russian shelling on 31 December. They hit ten settlements in the region 17 times.
Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, said that the invaders did not reduce the number of attacks on the last day of 2023, launching about 540 shells in that area of the front. They opened fire near Nevske and Bilohorivka.

According Luhansk Regional Military Administration, residents of the settlements near Dovzhansk have been waiting for almost three weeks for the electricity supply to be restored. Due to the inability of the energy sector in the so-called ‘luhansk people’s republic’ to organize its work properly, tens of thousands of people have been waiting for repair crews for a week to two weeks after the bad weather. However, several villages are still without electricity. The reaction of the local population remains ignored.
In less than two years, Bilovodsk hospital has gone from being one of the best in the region to being unable to have any kind of examination or see a specialist doctor. In December, medical workers from Novosibirsk Oblast arrived there, having travelled 3,500 kilometres. The village, which was occupied in 2022, had been without a surgeon, gynaecologist and resuscitator for the entire time. The examination will last for several weeks, after which the hospital will be empty again.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
On January 1, 2024, russian forces began attacking Kyiv oblast with drones again. This was reported by the KCMA. In several districts of the capital, the sounds of explosions were heard during an air raid. These were air defense forces working on enemy targets.
Serhii Popko, Head of the KCMA, says that the bodies of those killed in the missile strike on 29.12.23 are still being found – rescuers have taken another body out of the rubble. The Russian army killed 28 people with a missile strike on 29 December.

Russian forces hit a residential building in Esman community, Sumy oblast with a Shahed drone. There are people under the rubble, three being rescued. The search and rescue operation continues. Later, the Office of the Prosecutor General said that a woman was killed as a result of a drone attack on a house.
On New Year’s Eve, russian invaders fired 9 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast, there were 31 explosions.
Sumy Regional Military Administration reports that the russian army fired 29 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. There were 162 explosions.
A New Year’s charity race took place in Sumy. According to the organizer, Vitalii Ivakh, 16 athletes and one dog registered for the race, and they easily covered the 5km distance. The oldest participant was 59 years old, and the youngest was 9.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
At night 5 enemy Shahed drones were destroyed in the oblast. They were shot down by the Air Force in Dnipro, Synelnykove, Novomoskovsk and Kamianske regions.

On New Year’s Eve, Ukrainian defenders shot down five enemy kamikaze drones over Vinnytsia oblast. In Tulchyn region, the debris of a downed enemy drone damaged a garage and windows of several houses. There were no casualties.
For Christmas and New Year holidays, children from Sloviansk received over 150 packages from Vinnytsia municipality. They include toys, stationery, clothes, sweets and books. The packages were delivered to Donetsk oblast by volunteers.
According to the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, on New Year’s Eve the Air Defense Forces destroyed a russian drone in Kirovograd oblast.
Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA, reported that three educational institutions in 2024, which will provide 900 beds for IDPs, will be renovated in Poltava oblast with the financial support of UNHCR. The partnership will also renovate housing in Velyki Budyshcha, Velyka Rublivka, Hoholivka, Novoselivka and Pyriatyn communities. Doctors continue to fight for the life of a 9-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries in a russian strike on Kherson. Being diagnosed with a severe skull-brain injury, the boy was transported to Mykolaiv, where he underwent surgery. Currently, he is in the intensive care unit, and after stabilizing his condition, a second operation will be performed in Kyiv hospital.

25 veterans who became disabled due to hostilities were rehabilitated in the Prolisok mother and child sanatorium. An individual recovery program was selected for each person according to their state of health. From 4 to 6am, Lviv oblast was attacked by 4 enemy attack drones of the Shaheed type. All the drones were destroyed. As a result of the impact of the wreckage, a fire broke out in the museum of Corporal General Roman Shukhevych on Bilohorshcha Street in Lviv. There were no casuslties. The building was completely destroyed.
Due to the fall of the fragments of the Shahed drone in Dublyany, the 600 m2 roof and the 120 m2 ceiling were destroyed, 5 windows of Lviv National University of Natural Sciences were destroyed. There was a fire. It was promptly extinguished. There were no casualties.
Lviv City Council sent another batch of equipment to the defenders, namely, UAVs, generators, thermal imagers, EW systems, etc., worth over UAH 10K at the expense of the community.
Also, in the Lviv community budget for 2024, UAH 1 billion has been provided for the purchase of equipment and necessary means of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
