It has been the 545th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The enemy launched 2 missile and 38x air strikes, 26 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. 

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and air strikes.

There were 26 combat engagements.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy fired mortar and artillery at over 15 settlements, including Rozhkovychi, Seredyna-Buda, Myropilske, Riasne, Sumy oblast, Pletenivka, Vovchansk, Chuhunivka, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy fired artillery and mortar at the settlements of Berestove, Tverdokhlibove, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Lyman, the enemy launched air strikes in the vicinity of Tverdokhlibove and Serebryanske forestry, Luhansk oblast. About 10 settlements, including Bilohorivka,Luhansk oblast, Zvanivka, Vesele, Spirne, Fedorivka, Donetsk oblast, were shelled with artillery.

Towards Bakhmut, the invaders launched an air strike in the vicinity of Ivanivske, Donetsk oblast. More than 15 settlements, including Minkivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Dyliivka, Donetsk oblast, were shelled from enemy artillery. 

Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled attacks of russian troops near Avdiivka. The settlements of Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Umanske, Donetsk oblast, came under artillery fire.

Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the russian offensive in the vicinity of Mariinka, Donetsk oblast. The invaders fired artillery at the settlements of Mariinka, Pobieda, Yelyzavetivka, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Antonivka, Donetsk oblast. 

Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Vodiane and Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast. 10 settlements, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast, were shelled from enemy artillery.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, russian troops launched air strikes in the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka, Yehorivka and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast.  Over 15 settlements were shelled from enemy artillery, including Poltavka, Hulyaipole, Huliaipilske, Chervone, Zatyshshoa, Zaporizhzhia oblast. 

Towards Kherson, russians launched an air strike in the vicinity of Romashkove, Kherson oblast. The settlements of Novovorontsovka, Kherson, Komyshany, Kherson oblast were hit with the enemy artillery.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct the offensive operation towards Melitopol, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery fire.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 9 air strikes on the buildup of troops and 2 strikes on anti-aircraft missile systems of the adversary.

The Ukrainian rocket and artillery troops hit 2 buildups of troops, weapons, and military equipment, 2 ammunition depots and 1 TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system of the enemy.

Energoatom claims that slight decrease in the water level in Zaporizhzhia NPP cooling pond was recorded. Currently, it is 16.4 meters.

Head of Chernihiv  Viacheslav Chaus reports that the number of victims of the rocket attack on Chernihiv increased to 180 people. Among them, 46 were hospitalized.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that at night, around 3 am, the enemy shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region. Four residential buildings were damaged and destroyed. Rescuers rescued a 56-year-old owner of one of the houses from the rubble. The woman did not have any critical injuries and did not need hospitalisation.

Around 12:30 am a private building was damaged and a fire broke out as a result of shelling in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.

Yesterday the enemy shelled the settlements of Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Kupiansk and Izium regions. Specifically, Chervona Zoria, Vetarynarne, Kozacha Lopan, Strilecha, Kupiansk, Dvorichna, Berestove and other settlements were under enemy attack.

In Kupiansk, residential buildings were damaged and a fire broke out. In Cherneshchyna village, Izium region, a private building and power lines were damaged.

At around 10 am in Shestakove village, Chuhuiv region, a tractor exploded on an unknown explosive device while operating. A 51-year-old man was injured and hospitalised in moderate condition.

Mine clearance is ongoing. In one day, pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined 8.8 hectares of territory and defused 51 explosive ordnance.

On 20 and 21 August, 30 people, including 5 children and 1 person with a disability, were evacuated from the frontline communities of Kupiansk region. According to Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the RMA, as of 21 August, 556 people, including 148 children, had been evacuated from Kupiansk region. Andrii Kanashevych, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that about 11,500 people remain to be evacuated. The majority of them live on the left bank of the Oskil River.

Andrii Dorozhko, Director of Kharkiv Regional Department of Agricultural Complex, informed that almost 2.5 million tonnes of grain are planned to be harvested this year, which is eight times more than the region’s inner demand.

Kharkiv Ecopark confirmed that Sashka the bison, who was left without parents at the age of 10 months due to russian shelling in the spring of 2022, was returned to the ecopark.

Donetsk oblast

Towards Volnovakha, in Vuhledar community, a building and outbuildings were damaged in Novoukrainka. Bohoiavlenka and Vuhledar were under fire. In Velyka Novosilka community, 3 buildings were damaged in Shakhtarske.

Towards Donetsk, Avdiivka suffered two tank attacks, without any casualties. In Kurakhove community, Hirnyk and Hostre were shelled. Krasnohorivka and Maksymilianivka of Marinka community were shelled.

In Chasiv Yar community, 2 apartment buildings and an industrial building were damaged. A building and a gymnasium were damaged in Nykyforivka of Soledar community.

Towards Lysychansk, in Zvanivka community, 4 buildings were destroyed, a building and a school were damaged. In Siversk, 2 buildings were damaged. Lyman community was shelled 7 times.

Luhansk oblast

Having an advantage in the sky, the invaders are trying to use it in every possible way, attacking settlements and positions of our military. Yesterday Bilohorivka and the territory of Serebrianka forestry were hit. However, the enemy infantry is unable to achieve its goals in Luhansk oblast as Ukrainian defenders inflict significant losses on them every day. Also russians attacked near Karmazynivka, Nevske, Kreminna and Bilohorivka with artillery.

The invaders are only interested in the quality of the demonstration repairs performed in the occupied territories until the day when a TV crew from a propaganda channel arrives at the facility. The ceiling of the cultural centre of Antratsyt community fell down after the repairs and it is in disrepair. According to russians, there are no plans for a second “restoration”.

There are also problems with salary payments in the occupied cities. Of course, collaborators who work in the occupation authorities, and heads of institutions receive it. For instance, utility workers in Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk and Rubizhne have been without money for several months. And it concerns Sievierodonetsk, employees of the Azot Association, who have been promised a launch for a year, but so far have been limited to cutting scrap metal for food packages.

Yurii Fedorenko, Commander of the 92nd Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Ivan Sirko, which operates with Achilles UAVs, stated that the Defence Forces of Ukraine hit a russian T-80 tank worth $4 million using an FPV drone.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ukrinform with reference to a publication in the “Official Gazette” of Moldova reported that Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Rechan is on a working visit to Kyiv on August 22-24. During the visit to Kyiv, Rechan is accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Volodymyr Bolya, as well as Minister of Energy Viktor Parlykov, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrii Spinu. The program of the visit to Ukraine includes topics related to these spheres of activity and cooperation.

Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren arrived in Kyiv. She spoke at the VI International Veterans Forum “Ukraine. Defenders. The Future”, organized by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.

The KCMA reported that events of an exclusively local scale are planned in Kyiv for the National Flag Day and the Independence Day of Ukraine. Non-state mass events remain prohibited, regardless of their nature – religious, cultural-educational, physical culture-sports or entertainment.

A new youth space was opened in the village of Borodyanka, which was created as part of the implementation of the “VIDNOVA:UA” national program for the involvement of youth for the restoration of Ukraine. The space has zones for recreation, study and creativity. Non-formal education events are also planned there. This is already the 29th youth center in the capital region.

General director of “Ukrposhta” Ihor Smilyanskyi announced that a local shelter for animals, destroyed by russian shelling, was rebuilt in Hostomel. The funds received from the sale of a charity stamp with Patron the dog were directed to this. 

The KCSA reported that the “Running for Language” action organized in the capital for Independence Day is changing its format to online. The reason for this is safety considerations – more than 600 people have registered for the race, a third of whom are children. The organizer of the action, the all-Ukrainian movement “United”, notes that participants can run not only on August 24, but whenever it is convenient for them until September 1.

The photo exhibition “Defenders of Independence” opened in Kyiv as part of the information campaign of the same name, which is dedicated to the formation of the modern Ukrainian army. The exhibition presents more than 100 works of leading Ukrainian photographers, who talk in their works about new units of the Armed Forces, the development of tactical medicine, aerial reconnaissance and tactical UAVs, international cooperation, as well as military assistance to the civilian population.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to France, Vadym Omelchenko announced that on the Independence Day of Ukraine, Kyiv Square will be opened in the center of Paris, and the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. 

Zhytomyr oblast

20 servicemen of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Kostyantyn Ostrozky from Zhytomyr oblast received awards as well as cash prizes and valuable gifts from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Commander of the Ground Forces. The commander of the Khortytsia operational-strategic troop group Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky, presented the awards to the soldiers who distinguished themselves during the fighting in the Bakhmut area.

Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn announced that changes will be made to the plan of events for the Day of the State Flag and Independence Day in the city in order to protect children and the civilian population. Some activities that were planned with children in the central squares and streets of the city will be canceled.

The exciting sports-patriotic game “Kryivka of Sokolovskyi Atamans-2023” started on August 20, which unites young people around the idea of military-patriotic education. The program of the event includes military training, topography skills, paintball battles, as well as familiarization with the history and structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The organizers of this event are the Department of National Patriotic Education, Youth and Sports of Zhytomyr oblast and the NGO “Protection of the Rights of Youth and Religious Communities”.

Sumy oblast

Four people were injured in Seredyna-Buda on August 22 due to shelling from the territory of the russian federation – a russian projectile hit a four-apartment building. The injured are in hospital. The facades of private houses and vehicles were also damaged due to shelling. The prosecutor’s office of the Sumy oblast reported that the russian military used methods of warfare prohibited by international law – they fired mortar and grenade launchers at the outskirts of the civil city.

Sumy RMA reported that the enemy carried out 12 attacks on the border territories and settlements of the oblast – 29 mortar strikes, 23 artillery strikes, 2 tank strikes, and 32 grenade launcher strikes were recorded. The communities of Khotyn, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Esman and Velyka Pysarivka came under shelling. 

At night and in the morning, the russians carried out 8 shellings – a total of 24 mortar and artillery strikes were recorded. The communities of Esman, Druzhbivka and Velika Pysarivka were under shelling.

Head of Sumy RMA Volodymyr Artyukh said that 270 additional shelters have been set up in the oblast over the past two months. Konotop, Nova Sloboda and Popivka communities provided shelters to one hundred percent of their residents. However, in Sumy and Shostka regions this indicator is lower than in the rest ones.

The explosives service of the National Police recovered and defused an artillery projectile near the road at the exit from Sumy. As the law enforcement officers established, it was a 152-millimeter BP-540 anti-tank cumulative projectile for direct fire from D-20 howitzers. The shell had a detonator, so the sappers first neutralized the explosives, and then removed them and brought them to the landfill for destruction.

Chernihiv oblast

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the russian military dropped an explosive device from an UAV on the territory of the Semenivka community on the evening of August 21, which resulted in the death of a 27-year-old local resident of the village of Yanzhulivka. Based on this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened regarding the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.

Head of Chernihiv RMA Vitaliy Chaus said that the russians attacked theoblast with drones. The russian military targeted the building of the city council in Semenivka with a “Shahed” drone, as a result of which a fire broke out and the building was partially destroyed. Surrounding buildings and private houses were also damaged.

During the past day, the russians fired four times from their territory on the border of Chernihiv oblast – the communities of Snovsk and Semenivka came under shelling. As reported in the SBGS, a total of 24 mortar strikes and 15 AGS strikes were recorded.

All mass events were banned during August 23-25 on the territory of the Chernihiv oblast. This decision was made at a meeting of the Regional Defense Council. According to the military command, there is an increased risk of missile strikes these days.

The U-LEAD with Europe program is rapidly launching additional support to Chernihiv Secondary School No. 3, which was damaged by a russian missile attack on the city center on August 19. In particular, the Program intends to help the school in replacing windows.

The artistic director of the Chernihiv drama theater Andriy Bakirov announced that rubble in the theater causing due to a russian missile hit is being dismantled. The roof of the theater suffered the most damage, the auditorium and foyer were also damaged, 90% of the windows were broken. More than 150 residents of Chernihiv, theater actors and volunteers came to clean up the rubble.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the regional council, the russian occupiers launched a missile at Kryvyi Rih in the morning. A man was injured, 20 private houses and a power line damaged. The enemy also attacked Sinelnykivsky region twice, resulting in a fire at a private enterprise. During the day, the russians attacked Nikopol region twice. They shelled Nikopol and the Marhanets community with artillery. A private enterprise and a residential building were damaged.

The power supply has been restored to more than 50,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk oblast whose homes were cut off due to a missile strike on 22 August.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia City Council reported that a fishing tournament for wounded soldiers, volunteers and civilians with disabilities took place in Vinnytsia. About 40 people went fishing, and about 25 took part in the tournament. This is a joint initiative of the Harmony Rehabilitation Centre and the Active Rehabilitation Group NGO. 

15 photographs of military wives were presented at the “Come back alive. I am waiting for you” exhibition in the Vinnytsia Museum of Local Lore. This was announced by the author of the exhibition, Vinnytsia-based photographer Alina Dyka. All the photos were taken in 2022.

Kirovohrad oblast

According to Andrii Raikovych, Head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, an “Art Born by War” exhibition has opened in Kirovohrad oblast. It is dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

Poltava oblast

According to Dmytro Lunin, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Poltava oblast received 62 generators from international partners. The equipment has a capacity of 4 to 15 kW. It will be transferred to medical and educational institutions, to places of compact settlement.

Cherkasy oblast

According to the Department of Social Policy of the Cherkasy City Council, Cherkasy veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war have returned from rehabilitation in Poland. The two-week treatment by the Baltic Sea was organised by the Association of the Wounded and Injured in Missions Abroad. The first group consisted of 40 Ukrainians, including 14 veterans from Cherkasy with their wives and children, as well as a woman whose husband went missing, and her son. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that a 51-year-old man died as a result of artillery shelling in the village of Preobrazhenka, Zaporizhzhya region. A 43-year-old man was injured. 

Hanna Malyar, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, said that soldiers of the 47th separate mechanised brigade entered the village of Robotyno, Zaporizhzhya oblast, in the Melitopol direction, and organised the evacuation of civilians. 

According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, on the night of 22 August, russians launched two missile attacks on the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia and used UAVs three times in open territory.  There were no casualties.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that att night, a fire broke out at one of Zaporizhzhia’s enterprises as a result of Russian shelling: 14 vehicles, including 4 trucks, and packaging containers on the site were on fire. The total area of the fire was 200 square metres.

The russian army fired 96 times at towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast over the past day, 21 August. Novodarivka and Lukianivka, Zaliznychne, Levadne, Poltavka, Olgivske, Preobrazhenka, Zatyshya, Stepove, Pavlivka and other frontline settlements were under the shelling.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv Regional Military ADministration, reported that the enemy shelled the water area of Ochakiv community with artillery at 6:25 pm and 7:54 pm on Monday. There were no casualties as a result of the attacks.

South Air Command said that air defence forces destroyed 2 russian Supercam reconnaissance UAVs and Merlin-BP.

Chaplains from Mykolaiv together with volunteers from Lviv oblast handed over a Mercedes ambulance to the city for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Volodymyr Kuzmych, Ambulanse – og Nødhjelpsdonasjon Lindesnes Foundation representative and pastor of the Good News church, informed that the ambulance is aimed to evacuate two seriously injured people, unlike many other ambulances. This vehicle was donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Norway by this foundation.

Odesa oblast

South Operational Command reported that for the first time, russia has put its new Cyclone missile carrier on combat duty. As of today, there are 3 enemy ships with Kalibr missiles at sea with a total capacity of up to 20 missiles. Among them is the Cyclone, which has recently been accepted into russian Black Sea Fleet. Thus, the fleet consists of 2 frigates, 4 corvettes and up to 5 submarines, all of them carry up to 70 Kalibr missiles in total.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, stated at a briefing with Volodymyr Zelenskyi that Greece is ready to join the restoration of the historic centre of Odesa. Specifically, it concerns the restoration of damaged historic buildings.

Kernel company informed at Warsaw Stock Exchange that they will spend at least USD 20 million to rebuild port infrastructure damaged by russian missile attacks.

“Rashism is…” exhibition has been open in Shevchenko Park in Odesa near the Mushlia stage since today. 16 stands reveal the concept of rashism with historical and modern examples. Rashism is the ideology of a sieged fortress, the constant focus on the fact that everything is bad outside russia. This is one of the projects of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINM).

Kherson oblast

Mykolaivka in Kherson oblast was shelled by russian troops. A 66-year-old man was injured. He was hospitalised in moderate condition.

A 71-year-old woman was killed as a result of the shelling of Komyshany near Kherson by russian troops. In addition, a 55-year-old man was injured. 

Over the past day, August 21, the russian army attacked Tomaryne, Zymivnyk and Dachi from the air, and shelled more than 25 settlements in the Kherson oblast with artillery.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that over the past day, August 21, the russian army fired 71 times at Kherson region. A dacha co-operative in Kherson district, a farm and a national park in Beryslav district were hit. Four people were injured. 

The Kherson Regional Territorial Centre for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine received 10 medical vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with the necessary equipment to provide assistance: several types of stretchers, an evacuation chair, blood pressure monitors, a pulse oximeter, stationary oxygen, an oxygen humidifier, and an immobilisation device. The ambulances were provided by the Dnipro City Council.

The Ministry of Environment reported that employees of the Kamianska Sich National Park sowed clover, alfalfa and other plants at the bottom of the former Kakhovka reservoir. This was done to prevent dust storms and the spread of alien species. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

According to Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk, 20 Mavic 3 drones were delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Volyn to be used by the following units: 14th Separate Mechanised Brigade, 100th Separate Tank Brigade, 5th Separate Mechanised Brigade, 118th Separate Mechanised Brigade, 2nd Infantry Battalion, and A4714, A4898, A4100, A7086, A4808, and A6175 military units.

Zakarpattia oblast

During a working visit to Kyiv, Viktor Mykyta, Head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, met with the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk. The agenda included the security sector of Zakarpattia and the operational situation in the area of responsibility of the RMA.  They discussed issues of interaction and coordination between the SSU, the RMA, and all representatives of the security sector of the region, as well as priority areas of work that require increased attention from law enforcement. 

Volodymyr Chubirko, Head of the Zakarpattia Regional Council, met with the President of Hungary, Katalin Novak, during her visit to Zakarpattia.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

A charity exhibition and “Our Home is Ukraine” auction was launched at the Potocki Palace to raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The exhibition features used ammunition and military ammunition turned into art objects. IThe used tubes of a rocket-propelled anti-tank gun and a missile system, ammunition casings and mines were brought to the exhibition by volunteers from Kryvyi Rih, Yurii and Iryna Lypen.  

Lviv oblast

In Lviv oblast, the response to the aftermath of the night attack on 15 August is ongoing. According to  Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, three residential estates are being restored in Stavchany. Another 8 cubic metres of construction waste has been removed. 303 people have applied for compensation. Employees of the Zaliznychnyi District Administration compiled 190 visual inspection reports to be submitted to the city’s emergency response committee to allocate funds from the reserve fund to eliminate the consequences of the missile strike.

240 FPV combat drones, 31 reconnaissance Mavic and 1 MATRICE 30T and an anti-drone gun were delivered to the soldiers of the 103rd and 125th Brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 24th Brigade named after King Danylo, the 80th Air Assault Brigade, the 77th Separate Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 7th Airborne Brigade, as well as border guards and scouts within the framework of the Victory Birds initiative.

A philanthropist from the Netherlands, with the mediation of a man from Zolochiv region, handed over medicines for Ukrainian defenders. The Roel Muijs family has been helping Ukrainians since the first days of the full-scale invasion.

The Mercedes ML car was purchased for the territorial defence soldiers at the expense of the Yavoriv City Council and its structural units.

More than UAH 300K was raised for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a charity concert in the village of Velykyi Lubin. Residents of Chestyni village also raised about UAH 50K for our defenders during a charity concert with the participation of local artistic groups.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine has honoured employees of the energy sector in Lviv oblast. Almost two dozen employees of the energy sector – engineers of thermal power plants in Lviv oblast, Ukrenerho and Lvivoblenerho – were awarded honorary awards for their diligent work during the full-scale war, especially during the period of massive attacks on energy facilities in Lviv oblast.

Rivne oblast

Volunteers from Rivne oblast continue to restore buildings damaged by russians in southern Ukraine. Last week, a team from Sarny region worked in Zahradivka village. Volunteers from Rivne are currently rebuilding Orlovу in Kherson oblast.  The work of such teams is coordinated by specialists from the Department of Construction and Architecture of Rivne Regional Military Administration. Such assistance is part of the all-Ukrainian  Side by Side project.

According to Rivne Regional Military Administration, 50% of border schools plan full-time and combined education. Since the beginning of September, almost 90% of educational institutions in the region are planning to organise full-time and combined forms of education. 45 of the 89 institutions near the northern border are also planning full-time and combined learning.

Ternopil oblast

“Help for Army from Ternopil” was sent to Ukrainian soldiers towards Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts. According to the headquarters of Ternopil Defence Council, anyone can send a parcel for free to their relatives and friends of the soldiers deployed in this area.

The title of “Honorary Citizen of Ternopil” was awarded to 13 more servicemen (posthumously). According to the headquarters of Ternopil Defence Council, these are Boiko Serhii Vasylovych, Harmatii Volodymyr Mykhailovych, Hnidyi Anatolii Dmytrovych, Dankiv Viktor Bohdanovych, Klym Oleh Mykolaiovych, Misiura Oleksandr Yuriiovych, Nychyk Oleksii Oleksandrovych, Petlovanyi Andrii Mykolaiovych, Petrov Dmytro Valeriiovych, Seniuk Bohdan Olehovych, Stusiak Roman Oleksandrovych, Furla Yurii Mykhailovych, Shevchuk Bohdan Tarasovych.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The architectural reserve reported on Facebook page that on 19 August, a 16th-century architectural monument, Medzhybizh Fortress, was damaged as a result of a Shaheda attack. At the time of the attack, a leadership school with 300 students was operating there. After the air raid was announced, they went into shelter. The blast wave partially destroyed the windows, doors of the museum and the roof of the Knight’s Tower.

Chernivtsi oblast

Ruslan Zaparaniuk, Head of Chernivtsi Regional Military District, met with Lucian Mincu and Marian Stoica, Romanian businessmen, to discuss attracting investment to Chernivtsi oblast.  

Ruslan Zaparaniuk, Head of the RMA, also held a working meeting with representatives of the Estonian Reserve Storage Agency and the International Defence and Security Centre. The main topic of discussion was the experience of Ukrainian regional authorities in the formation, storage, protection, logistics of operational resources and the exchange of experience in the humanitarian sphere.  

According to Chernivtsi Regional State Administration, the 10th anniversary football tournament in memory of the outstanding Ukrainian football player, Andrii Husin, has ended at Karpaty Stadium named after him in Putyla. Entry fees from the participating teams and donations from football fans and tournament partners, worth a total of UAH 70,000, went to help the 93rd Battalion of the Chernivtsi Territorial Defence Brigade, which is currently carrying out missions in eastern Ukraine.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU has provided Ukraine with another tranche of financial assistance worth €1.5 billion

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. They discussed the Ukrainian Peace Formula.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Montenegro Jakob Milatović. They discussed support for the Peace Formula and preparations for the Global Peace Summit.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković. They discussed a new defence support package, grain exports, including through Croatia’s Danube and Adriatic ports, and humanitarian mine clearance.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevski. They discussed the development of defence cooperation.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić. They discussed the prospects of cooperation.

In Copenhagen, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska had an audience with Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and members of the royal family – Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. The President expressed gratitude to the Danish people, government and parliament for the powerful humanitarian, financial and military assistance to Ukraine.

On August 21, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Nikolai Denkov. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Bulgarian Prime Minister discussed further cooperation on the protection of Ukraine.

In the framework of his working visit to the Hellenic Republic, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The Presidents discussed the current state of affairs on the frontline and the security situation in the region in view of the continuation of russian aggression against Ukraine.

Greece will join the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. This was announced by Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint briefing with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsatokis. After a visit to the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, the Head of State left for Greece, where he will take part in the Ukraine-Balkans summit.

The President of Ukraine informed that Luxembourg has joined the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Ambassador of Ukraine to France Vadym Omelchenko reported that France has decided to triple the rate of production and supply of 155mm ammunition to Ukraine. Enterprises have switched to a 24/7 emergency mode of operation. 

On 21 August, Ukraine received a record amount of emergency power from the Romanian and Polish power systems. Ukrenergo was forced to use emergency assistance from the power systems of Poland and Romania to meet demand from 18:00 to 22:00.

Atlas, a Latvian drone manufacturer, has opened an office in Ukraine. The new office will focus on customer support and the development of new products and technologies.

General Milley discussed russia’s war against Ukraine with Pope Francis. The Pope is very concerned about the hundreds of thousands of people who have been killed and wounded, as well as the casualties among innocent civilians.

President of Hungary Katalin Novak arrived in Zakarpattia on a working visit. The parties discussed humanitarian support, assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons in Zakarpattia oblast, organisation of summer recreation for Ukrainian children in different parts of Hungary, and implementation of joint environmental, educational, cultural, and other initiatives.

Japanese retailer Uniqlo has left the russian market. The company terminated all lease contracts with penalties, fired all staff, paying them 11 salaries each, and transferred Japanese managers to other countries.

In the final of the Women’s World Cup, the goalkeeper of the winning team, the Spanish national team, wrapped herself in the Ukrainian flag before receiving the cup.
