War in Ukraine today: latest news, 5 November 2025 (photo)

It has been the 1351  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On November 5, there were 205 combat engagements.

The enemy shelled the border settlements of Novovasylivka in the Sumy oblast with artillery.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk,  there were two combat engagements, including one still ongoing. The enemy launched seven airstrikes, dropping 16 guided bombs, and carried out 85 shelling attacks, including six from multiple launch rocket systems. 

Towards Southern Sloboda, the Defence Forces repelled seven enemy attacks. russian troops are attempting to advance in the areas of Vovchansk, Boholivka and Synelnykove. Five more combat engagements are still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the aggressor launched three assaults near Petropavlivka, Pishchane and Nova Kruhliakivka. 

Towards Lyman, the aggressor launched 23 assaults near Hrekivka, Novoiehorivka, Karpivka, Derylove, Myrne, Shandryholove, Zarichne, Korovii Yar and Drobysheve. Seven combat engagements are ongoing.

Towards Sloviansk, the Defence Forces repelled 13 enemy attacks. The enemy units attempted to advance near Yampil, Dronivka, Siversk, Serebrianka, Pereizne and Zvanivka. Two more battles are ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian troops repelled four enemy attacks near Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar and Stupochky.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the aggressor launched 29 assaults near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka and Rusyn Yar. Seven battles are still ongoing. 

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy made 84 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions near Maiak, Nykanorivka, Fedorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Myroliubivka, Pokrovsk, Lysivka, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Muravka, Filiia and Yalta. The Defence Forces are absorbing the enemy’s offensive and have already repelled 68 attacks, with 16 still ongoing. 

Measures are underway to block enemy forces attempting to infiltrate and concentrate within the city of Pokrovsk. Active resistance continues against attempts by enemy infantry groups to establish positions.

In Pokrovsk, Ukrainian forces are conducting search and attack operations. Assault units of the 425th Assault Regiment, Unmanned Systems Forces operators, combined groups of the Special Operations Forces, the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate are all involved. Military units defending the city have been reinforced.

Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy is attempting to disrupt Ukrainian defences near Zelenyi Hai, Ivanivka, Piddubne, Sichneve, Vorone, Sosnivka, Stepove, Verbove, Pryvilne, Novohryhorivka and Pershotravneve. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 23 enemy assaults; three battles still ongoing. 

Towards Huliaipole, eight combat engagement were recorded near Novomykolaivka, Uspenivka and Zelenyi Hai. Two more battles are still ongoing.

Towards Orikhiv there was one combat engagement near Stepove.

Towards Kherson, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy attacks near the Antonivka Road Bridge. The enemy launched an airstrike on Mykolaiv.


No significant changes have been reported in other directions at this time.

Eight Ukrainian children and teenagers have been returned from the temporarily occupied territories. Among them is an 11-year-old boy who had not left his home for four years so that the occupiers would not take him away, as his family refused to send him to a russian school.

An 18-year-old young man was also returned — collaborators had threatened him with deportation and forced conscription.

Additionally, a 17-year-old boy and his 15-year-old sister were brought back; they had been humiliated at school for speaking Ukrainian, while their parents were fined.

Moreover, a 21-year-old man who had been tortured by the occupiers to force a confession of “collaboration” with the Ukrainian military was successfully evacuated.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the Regional State Administration, 136 defenders and their family members have already benefitted from the state programme ‘Grant for Veterans and Spouses’ and received funding to develop their own businesses in Kyiv oblast since the beginning of the year. Thanks to this initiative, new coffee shops, bakeries, service stations, construction companies, agricultural enterprises, and training centres are appearing in communities.

According to the RMA, Kyiv oblast is launching mobile operator support teams. The new mechanism involves strengthening the work of telecommunications operators with mobile teams of technical specialists who will be involved in servicing base stations, transporting and connecting generators. 125 such mobile teams have already been created.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko announced that the Kyiv community has sent another 2,000 FPV drones of various types and 300 Mavic 3T drones to the military of the 225th separate assault regiment, subordinate to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, residents of the capital can apply for monthly assistance online through the Kyiv Services Portal. This initiative applies to residents whose homes have been destroyed or damaged by russian shelling to such an extent that living in those is impossible. From now on, the processing of payments will become faster and no longer require a visit to the Administrative Services Centre.
The photo exhibition ‘Touches of Support’ is travelling around communities in Kyiv oblast. The photographs depict the lively emotional connection and embraces that help people survive even in the most difficult times. The residents of Kyiv oblast, volunteers, military personnel and internally displaced persons became the heroes of the exhibition. The exhibition is currently on display on the main street of Brovary.

Zhytomyr oblast

Over a hundred residents of the Olevsk community have joined forces to form a volunteer team called ‘Olevsk Kikimori.’ For three and a half years, they have been making camouflage nets, costumes, and other necessary items for the military, according to the founder of the volunteer team, Larisa Furmanets, who goes by the nickname ‘Military Mum.’ The volunteers work every day at the city market in Olevsk.

On 5 November, the exhibition ‘Rebirth from the Ashes’ by Zhytomyr resident Inna Libovich will open at the House of Ukrainian Culture in Zhytomyr. The artist conducts art therapy classes in drawing for wounded defenders and mothers of fallen soldiers. According to her, these meetings help participants distract themselves from pain and anxiety and find joy in creativity.

Sumy oblast

On the morning of 5 November the General Staff reported that over the past day, towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, russian forces carried out eight airstrikes, dropped 15 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 163 attacks, including ten using multiple rocket launch systems.

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office informed that Aat around 3:30pm on 5 November, the russian army attacked Seredyna-Buda community by drones, hitting a civilian vehicle delivering bread to local residents. A 34-year-old driver was killed and three civilians were injured.

At 3:40pm on the same day, russian forces launched an FPV drone strike on a tractor conducting agricultural work in Znob-Novhorodske community, injuring a 26-year-old tractor driver.

Between the morning of 4 November and the morning of 5 November 2025, russian troops carried out 53 attacks on 28 settlements across 14 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy, Shostka, and Okhtyrka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (nearly 20 strikes), UAVs (up to 10 strikes), multiple rocket launchers (10 strikes), and also conducted FPV drone and missile attacks. The air raid alert in the oblast lasted 20 hours and 11 minutes during the day.

The consequences of russian attacks on Sumy oblast as of the morning of 5 November are as follows:

  • In Sumy community, apartment buildings, a private house, a commercial facility, and a civil infrastructure site were damaged;
  • In Seredyna-Buda community, a private car and a tractor were damaged;
  • In Mykolaivka rural community, a private house and a non-residential building were damaged;
  • In Krasnopillia community, a private vehicle was damaged;
  • In Trostianets community, a civil infrastructure facility, retail buildings, and cars were damaged;
  • In Hlukhiv community, a civil infrastructure facility was damaged.

During the day, 14 people were evacuated from border communities through the joint efforts of local authorities, the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that during the night of 5 November, russian forces attacked private residential areas in Novhorod-Siverskyi town by two Geran-2 strike drones. Three people were injured — men aged 77 and 79, and a 73-year-old woman. The fire damaged a summer kitchen and an outbuilding. Eight households and two cars were also damaged or destroyed.

The Regional Military Administration informed that Korop community in Novhorod-Siverskyi area was attacked by a guided aerial bomb, damaging power lines.

According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, throughout 4 November, russian forces attacked Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities, with up to 40 explosions recorded. The enemy carried out artillery shelling, launched FPV drone strikes, and dropped explosive devices from UAVs. Nine settlements came under fire.

According to the State Emergency Service in Chernihiv oblast, in Koriukivka region on 4 November, sappers neutralised warheads from russian drones that had fallen in open areas without detonating. The danger was particularly high as residential buildings were located nearby.

Larysa Kravchenko, Head of Chernihiv kindergarten No. 53, said that on 3 November, the institution resumed operations after being damaged by a russian drone explosion on 6 June 2025. Ten of its sixteen groups have reopened, welcoming back 179 children, reported. The remaining groups are planned to reopen next year.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Air Defence Forces were active in the oblast, destroying two enemy UAVs.
Synelnykove region: The enemy attacked Vasylkivka and Dubovykivka communities by drones. A 41-year-old man was injured. Fires broke out, burning a private house. Six private homes, infrastructure, and a gas pipeline were damaged.
Nikopol region: The enemy repeatedly attacked Nikopol by drones and shelled it by artillery in the morning. Updated reports confirm that two men, aged 52 and 56, were injured in a previous drone strike on Pokrovske community. A private house and a car were damaged.
Pavlohrad region: The occupiers struck Ternivka community by a drone, damaging infrastructure.

Later, Synelnykove region came under further attack from drones and guided aerial bombs targeting Vasylkivka and Mezhivka communities. Two market kiosks were destroyed, and a children’s recreation centre, a post office, a farm, and local infrastructure were damaged.
In Nikopol region, more than 20 attacks were recorded. The enemy used artillery and drones to target the regional centre, as well as Marhanets, Myrivka, Chervonohryhorivka, and Pokrovske communities. In Nikopol, a 50-year-old man was injured in shelling and received medical care. Ten private houses, an apartment building, four outbuildings, three greenhouses, a petrol station, a car (destroyed), a garage, power lines, and a gas pipeline were damaged.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of Regional Military Administration, said that Kirovohrad oblast received 31 residents evacuated from Donetsk oblast. They were accommodated in Oleksandrivka community. Since the evacuation from Pavlohrad hub began in August, the region has welcomed 337 displaced persons, all provided with housing, food, and essential supplies. In total, 6,528 displaced people have arrived in the oblast this year.

Oleksandriia and Onufriivka communities paid tribute to  Oleksandr Fomenko and Oleksandr Lukianenko.
Oleksandr Fomenko was killed on 27 October near the village of Novomarkove in Donetsk oblast during a combat mission.
Oleksandr Lukianenko last contacted his family on 5 February 2024 after taking position near the town of Pervomaisk, close to Avdiivka. He was later declared missing. DNA testing confirmed his death, officially recorded on 21 March 2024 in the settlement of Pervomaiske, Pokrovsk region, Donetsk oblast.

In Kropyvnytskyi, 85-year-old pensioner Lidiia Dombrova has been supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, raising UAH 100,000 for the military. She donates funds and other assistance through the volunteer organisation “Caring Residents of Kropyvnytskyi.”

Poltava oblast

Memorial plaques were unveiled on the facade of Poltava Secondary School No. 11 to honour two fallen defenders of Ukraine — Roman Slipych and Petro Protsyk — both alumni of the school. Roman Slipych was killed on 24 September 2022 near Ozeryanivka village in Horlivka region, Donetsk oblast, following an explosive injury. Petro Protsyk was killed on 28 February 2024 during a battle on Tendrivska Kosa Island. He saved the lives of his comrades by ensuring their safe withdrawal.

In Poltava’s Administrative Services Centre (CNAP), a new “Veteran” service has opened, offering military personnel, veterans, and their families access to support from the Pension Fund, the Department of Social Protection, the Employment Centre, and CNAP specialists.

Cherkasy oblast

In Donetsk sector, 40-year-old serviceman Serhii Rudenko from Shpola region was killed on 26 October near Shakhove village, Pokrovsk region. Cherkasy community paid tribute to serviceman Andrii Bohovyk, who died during a combat mission in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

Fallen servicemen from Cherkasy oblast were posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage.” The medals were presented to their families. Those honoured posthumously with the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, include Mykola Borodienko, Ihor Borshchuk, Serhii Vasylchenko, Stanislav Kryvoshyia, and Roman Chalyi.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, 5 November, russian forces attacked the Zaporizhzhia region. Four rescuers were wounded. A russian FPV drone struck a minibus traveling on a road. The vehicle was destroyed.

Yesterday, 4 November, the occupiers carried out 658 strikes on 14 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted four airstrikes on Ternuvate. 457 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Kushuhum, Malokaterynivka, Chervonodniprovka, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Six MLRS attacks hit Stepove, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Novomykolaivka, Novouspenivske, and Charivne. There were 191 artillery strikes on Chervonodniprovka, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Authorities received 36 reports of damage to homes, infrastructure, and vehicles.

According to the State Emergency Service of Zaporizhzhia oblast, on 4 November, fires broke out in Kushuhum, Orikhiv, and Ternuvate due to russian shelling. There were no casualties or injuries.

As of 16:00 on 5 November, there were eight combat engagements towards Huliaipole, in the areas of Novomykolaivka, Uspenivka, and Zelenyi Hai, with two battles still ongoing. One combat clash occurred towards Orikhiv  — the enemy attempted to advance near Stepove. Over the past day, 4 November, the Defense Forces repelled six russian attacks towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv. 

Mykolaiv oblast

At night and in the early morning, the enemy attacked Mykolaiv with Shahed-type UAVs and guided aerial bombs (KABs). Industrial infrastructure was targeted. Air defense forces in southern Ukraine shot down or suppressed five strike UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and drones of other types.

Yesterday, the enemy twice attacked Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities with FPV drones. There were no casualties.

Kherson oblast

A resident of Bilozerka, whose house was shelled by russian forces the previous day, sought medical help. The 49-year-old woman was diagnosed with a blast injury and a concussion.

Yesterday, the russian forces attacked Antonivka, Blahovishchenske, Zelenivka, Komyshany, Prydniprovske, Sadove, Bilozerka, Dniprovske, Kizomys, Rozlyv, Tomyna Balka, Stanislav, Sofiiivka, Oleksandrivka, Ivanivka, Mykilske, Novotiahynka, Poniativka, Tokarivka, Beryslav, Novooleksandrivka, Zolota Balka, Burhunka, Dudchany, Novokairy, Osokorivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Vesele, and the city of Kherson. As a result of the attacks, an apartment building, 13 private houses, a utility structure, an office building, and private vehicles were damaged. Three people were injured due to Russia’s aggression. Ten people were evacuated from the liberated communities in the region.

As of 16:00 on 5 November, Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy attacks near the Antonivskyi Bridge towards Kherson.

Kherson oblast received a mobile hospital from German volunteers. The vehicle was donated in memory of Savita Wagner, a German combat medic who served in Ukraine’s Defence Forces and died in action in the east of the country.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

On 31 October 2025, the heart of Vasyl Savych, serviceman from the village of Yelizavetyn, Rozhyshchensk community, stopped beating in a hospital in Kharkiv oblast. Days of mourning have been declared in Rozhyshchensk community – 5, 6, and 7 November.

Zakarpattia oblast

An online meeting was held on the implementation of the Carpathian Integration Initiative, a strategic project aimed at deepening cooperation between border regions of the Carpathian region. It aims to create a platform for deeper interaction in the areas of infrastructure, economy, innovation and culture, and may later become the basis of a new EU financial instrument.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that today, 109,775 displaced persons are registered in the oblast, including 4,222 people with disabilities, 17,167 pensioners and 28,932 children.

Lviv oblast

Deputies of Horodok City Council have additionally financed the Defenders Support Program by another UAH 12m. Over UAH 1m in subventions were directed to military units and over UAH 2.8 million in drones were transferred to defenders.

Over UAH 1m was raised at the charity auction of unity With Ukraine in the Heart held in Pustomyty. The village of Polyanka, Pustomyty community, hosted a patriotic song festival Our Song is Our Weapon, during which UAH 19,000 were raised.

A charity fair was held in the village of Lanivka, Strii community, where the hostesses of the parish community Metanoia treated guests with their delicacies and raised funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On the eve, rallies for the needs of the defenders were also organized here.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast continues to actively participate in the Side by Side. United Communities national project. Within the 4th wave, it is planned to create 20 more pairs with communities from frontline regions. 12 pairs have already begun consultations on establishing cooperation.

Ternopil oblast

A Fair of Opportunities was held in Ternopil for internally displaced persons and all those looking for work. Over 120 people participated in the event.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

As part of the RETURN project, a Mental Health Center for military personnel, veterans and their family members has been launched on the basis of one of the regional medical institutions. The new Center will offer a wide range of services – from individual and group psychotherapy to crisis intervention, psychiatric care, rehabilitation after traumatic events, and support programs for military families. The project is being implemented synchronously with the state mental health support program How are you?, launched at the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi oblast is an active participant in the Side by Side: United Communities national project, initiated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine. Currently, 40 communities of the oblast have established a direct dialogue with outpost communities of different oblasts of Ukraine, 30 have already concluded Memorandums of Cooperation
