The russian army does not stop trying to advance deep into the territory of Ukraine, the defense forces of Ukraine are holding back the invaders, causing them significant losses. On 29 December, the number of enemy attacks was 133.
The border areas of Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts continue to suffer from russian artillery shelling. A number of settlements, including Tymofiivka, Bachivsk, Senkivka, Berylivka and Oleksandrivka, were hit by the terrorist army’s shelling today.
Towards Kharkiv, the invaders stormed the positions of our units near Hatyshcha.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions six times. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Kucherivka and Lozova. One clash is still ongoing.
Towards Lyman, enemy units attacked in the vicinity of Hrekivka, Zelenyi Hai, Platonovka, Pershotravneve, Nadiia, Makiivka, Terny, Yampolivka, Ivanivka and Bilohorivka. In the Pokrovsk, the invaders made 26 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of Zelene Pole, Vozdvizhenka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Dachenske, Novyi Trud, Vovkove, Solone, Novoolenivka, Novovasylivka and Novoielyzavetivka. The defense forces, restraining the enemy onslaught, repelled 22 enemy attacks there. The enemy is suffering significant losses in manpower.
Towards Kurakhiv direction, the invaders attacked Ukrainian units 16 times, trying to advance in the vicinity of Ukrainka, Slovyanka, Petropavlivka, Kurakhivka and Dachne. Four battles are ongoing.
Towards Vremivka, the invaders carried out 17 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the settlements of Kostiantynopolske, Yantarne, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopol, Dachne and Pryvilne. Four clashes are ongoing, and enemy aircraft also carried out guided bomb strikes on the settlements of Zaporizhzhia, Rozlyv and Komar, dropping a total of nine guided bombs.
The enemy did not conduct active operations towards Orikhiv, Huliaipole and Kherson.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
170 russian guided bombs hit Kharkiv in 2024. According to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, 50 people were killed by GABs, at least 10 bombs hit residential buildings directly.
Kharkiv regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that two people were injured as a result of shelling of Zahryzove in Izyum region at about 03:00. The wounded, a 63-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital.
Oleh Synehubov, Head of the RMA, reports that no strikes on Kharkiv were recorded during the day.
The day before, at 18:00, the village of Dvorichna was shelled. A civilian were killed as a result of ammunition being dropped from a UAV.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy unsuccessfully stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Vovchansk three times.
Towards Kupiansk, the aggressor carried out offensive actions near Hlushkivka and Lozova. Ukrainian defenders stopped three enemy attacks. Another clash continues.
As a result of intensified evacuation measures from Kupiansk and Borova directions, 26 people were evacuated.
Specialists continue repair work to restore the heating plant. After the massive attack by the russian army, more than 500 thousand consumers in Kharkiv oblast were left without heat.
Currently, the restoration of heat supply in the communities of Kharkiv region is underway.
Donetsk oblast
The Khortytsia military unit said that the russian federation is attacking unsuccessfully towards Lyman, fierce battles continue towards Kramatorsk and Toretsk.
The General Staff said that the Defense Forces repelled more than 130 attacks on the eastern front in the past day. The hottest are towards Pokrovsky.
Towards Pokrovsk, the russian federation troops carried out 54 assaults.
The Defense Forces continue to restrain russian units towards Kurakhove. In the vicinity of Petropavlivka, Ukrainka, Kurakhove and Dachne, the invaders tried to break through the Ukrainian defense lines 22 times.
Andrey Polukhin, Representative of the press service of the 24th brigade, says that russian troops towards Kramatorsk are trying to storm the city of Chasiv Yar, but they are not succeeding, the russian army has no advances. The 98th Airborne Division, also one of the mechanized motorized rifle brigades, is fighting against the Ukrainian military in this direction. These are usually fighters trained for battles in urban areas and in the field.
There are currently 314 children from Donetsk oblast, aged from 3 months to 18 years old, staying in orphanages. More than 200 of them are waiting for their families. The institutions themselves have been evacuated to other regions of Ukraine and abroad. This was reported by the Children’s Service.
Sergey Gorbunov, Head of the RMA, says that the russian army shelled Kostiantynivka during the day – one person was wounded. A 47-year-old man died under the shelling, a 63-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were wounded. Anastasia Medviedieva, Spokeswoman for the regional prosecutor’s office, reports that on December 29, russian troops shelled the cities of Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka.
Operational situation in the region as of the morning of 29 December:
Pokrovsk region. 1 building was damaged in Mirnohrad. A house was damaged in Pokrovsk; a person was killed and a house was damaged in Kotlyne.

Luhansk oblast
Neither on weekends nor on holidays do the invaders reduce the pressure on Luhansk oblast. In particular, yesterday they attacked in the vicinity of Hrekivka, Nadiia, Tverdokhlibove, Novoiehorivka and Makiivka, trying to knock Ukrainian defenders out of the occupied positions. The enemy continues dense shelling along the entire line of combat contact. Thus, artillery fire was opened 12 times. 126 drones were directed towards the fortifications of the Ukrainian troops.
Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk RMA, says that the invaders are implementing long-term, but almost fruitless projects in the so-called “lpr”. They approved a program for the gasification of housing and communal services until 2033. Over the next nine years, it provides for gasification of 800 subscribers. The program, which is large-scale in name only, will be implemented with state funds.
Luhansk RMA reported that residents of Siverskodonetsk who have a russian-style SIM card that is not yet tied to a russian passport with local registration cannot change the tariff. A call to the operator is also unavailable. The problem will be resolved only at the representative offices of mobile operators in Starobilsk or in Luhansk in person.
The Intelligence reported that in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk oblast, 4 facilities with telecommunications equipment of the illegal communications operator Phoenix, which is used by russian occupiers, burned down.

Kyiv oblast
Kyiv oblast has handed over 7 new Toyota Hilux diesel all-wheel drive pick-up trucks and other equipment to the 114th separate brigade of the Special Forces. The aid was purchased at the expense of the Bila Tserkva community, which is one of the leaders in supporting the military. According to Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, this year the communities of Kyiv oblast have donated more than UAH 1 billion worth of aid to the military.
This week, a team of instructors from the Ukrainian Women’s Guard conducted a series of training sessions on the risks associated with explosive devices for students of a Kyiv lyceum. After the training, all participants received certificates of completion.
The Regional Military Administration reported that Kyiv oblast has been recognised as the most active oblast in the implementation of the Active Parks project for the second year in a row. 148 project coordinators work at 71 locations in 66 oblast communities.
Among those, 10 are war veterans and combatants. Even in times of war, oblast creates spaces where everyone can find time for physical activity and energy recovery.
Kyiv City State Administration reported that in the capital, compensation of up to 75% of the cost of generators for high-rise buildings can now be arranged online. To participate in the programme, you can submit an online application for partial reimbursement without leaving your home. The amount can range from UAH 100,000 to UAH 300,000. The platform has a calculator to help calculate compensation according to the cost of the equipment.
The book ‘The russian-Ukrainian War as Seen from Kyiv. Living with War’ by Takashi Hirano, editor of the Japanese-language version of the Ukrinform website, was presented in the Ukrainian capital. Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome took part in the presentation. The book was published in November by the Japanese publishing house Seikaisha.
A light installation created on the site of the destroyed Romanivskyi Bridge in Irpin won the LIT Lighting Design Awards, a competition headquartered in Switzerland. Zhytomyr oblast
The Communications Directorate of the Command of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the largest Trident in Ukraine, made of didukhs, is presented in Zhytomyr. Its height is 7.41 metres. This symbol of Christmas, made of three varieties of grain, is officially listed in the National Register of Records of Ukraine. The trident is the result of the joint work of paratroopers of the 80th Brigade who, after being wounded, joined in the creation of this unique masterpiece.

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that the Volunteer Coordination Headquarters at the Ukrainian Center in Baku, supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which unites representatives of Ukrainian communities, volunteers, as well as Azerbaijani and Ukrainian entrepreneurs and businesspeople, announced a fundraising initiative in December to provide generators for Sumy oblast. The first 11 generators have already been sent and will be distributed to hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure facilities in the Sumy region to ensure alternative power sources.

Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
Buchky: 2 explosions, probably UAV discharges and explosions, probably NPP discharges from UAVs.

During the day, the occupiers carried out about three dozen attacks on Nikopol region. Three people were injured in Marhanets community as a result of a kamikaze drone strike. A 77-year-old man is in serious condition, and a 38-year-old woman was hospitalised. The target was the region centre, Marhanets, Myrove and Chervonohryhorivka communities. An enterprise, 7 private houses, 2 outbuildings, a petrol station, 2 cars, 3 power lines and the same number of gas pipelines were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
In the week from 23 to 29 December, 14 defenders from the Vinnytsia oblast were reported killed.
Kirovohrad oblast
In Kropyvnytskyi, relatives of captured and missing soldiers came out to hold a reminder rally ‘Holiday without holidays. Do not be silent. Captivity Kills!’ The aim of the event was to remind the public about the defenders who are now in russian captivity.
Poltava oblast
Seven business ideas of veterans from Poltava region won the grant programme “Worth 11.0” grant programme of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund. The winners will receive funding to start or expand their own business – from UAH 500,000 to UAH 1.5 million.
Cherkasy oblast
An action in support of missing persons and prisoners of war was held in Cherkasy under the slogan “Don’t be silent – captivity kills”. More than a hundred people joined the event.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
Yesterday, the occupiers carried out 331 attacks on 9 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 198 UAVs of various modifications targeted Stepnohirsk, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Five MLRS strikes hit Kamianske, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, and Charivne. Additionally, there were 128 artillery strikes at Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Four reports were received regarding the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure facilities.
There is a shortage of medical personnel among local doctors in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast. The Center for National Resistance reported that due to the refusal of most local doctors to cooperate with russia, there is a significant staffing deficit in the healthcare sector. Even the allocation of housing previously belonging to displaced Ukrainians to russian citizens does not resolve the issue, as those offered the opportunity are unwilling to relocate.
The occupation authorities demanded that school and kindergarten administrations in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast replace Ukrainian Christmas carols and traditional songs in children’s New Year performances with the russian national anthem and propagandistic songs. According to the resistance movement “Yellow Ribbon,” Ukrainian carols and traditional songs are being replaced with russian propaganda songs in children’s New Year performances in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol.
Mykolaiv oblast
On 28 December, at approximately 11:40pm, the enemy attacked the city of Ochakiv using Shahed 131/136 UAVs. The debris caused fires in three utility buildings and a vacation house in a recreational area. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fires.
Additionally, at 12:50am, the enemy attacked Chornomorsk community with Shahed 131/136 UAVs. The attack damaged an unused building, and falling debris caused a fire in an administrative building at an energy infrastructure facility. The rescuers promptly extinguished the fire. A 49-year-old employee of the enterprise was injured; his condition is reported as stable.
During the same night, air defense forces destroyed nine Shahed 131/136 UAVs in Mykolaiv oblast.
Odesa oblast
As of 6:00 a.m. on 29 December, there was one enemy carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles in the Black Sea, but no missiles on board. There were eight enemy vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, three of which were Kalibr missile carriers with a combined salvo capacity of up to 26 missiles.
Over the past day, four ships passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea, and two vessels entered the Sea of Azov, serving the interests of the russian federation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Popovych from the Odesa-based 126th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade with the “Cross of Combat Merit” for his bravery and heroism in combat missions. In November 2023, during a battle, he eliminated five russian occupiers and wounded two others. Earlier, in August, Oleksandr participated in crossing the Dnipro River near Kozachi Laheri. Under his leadership, more than a kilometer of trenches and communication paths were built, along with several strongholds and platoon support buildups, which remain strategically vital for holding positions.
The Alley of Glory was inaugurated in the village of Serhiivka in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi region to honor local community members who died defending Ukraine. The memorial plaques bear the names of 18 fallen defenders. During the opening ceremony, attendees observed a one-minute silence and laid flowers at the memorial.
A weekly peaceful rally was held in Odesa in support of prisoners of war and missing servicemen. Over 50 participants came with banners and flags to draw attention to the defenders’ plight. This was the 15th rally since September.
A training session was held in Odesa for military physical and sports rehabilitation specialists. The goal was to prepare specialists to assist comrades in restoring physical health directly in military units. Over 20 participants attended, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The training emphasized rehabilitation methods tailored to the specific injuries and psychological conditions of soldiers who had been wounded or experienced stress.
Kherson oblast
It is reported that a resident was killed in a russian drone attack in Tyahynka. The occupiers dropped an explosive on a civilian car, causing fatal injuries to the man at the scene.

Nearly 4,900 objects were restored on the recently liberated right bank of Kherson oblast. According to Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the regional administration, 4,593 residential buildings, 242 critical infrastructure objects, and 52 social sector facilities were repaired.
A mobile team from Kherson Regional Blood Center recently visited 11 settlements in the region, collecting donations under challenging conditions. Over 370 donors outside the city contributed blood.
The Caritas Berislav UGCC charitable foundation once again delivered humanitarian aid to residents of Beryslav region. This time, over 2,700 hygiene kits were distributed to Mylove, Novoraisk, Velyka Oleksandrivka, and Borozenska communities.

Chernivtsi oblast
New mobile X-ray scanners for customs control will be installed at the Porubne-Siret checkpoint thanks to the Economic Support of Ukraine USAID Project at 5 checkpoints on the border with Romania, Moldova and Slovakia. The goal of the project is to modernize checkpoints in order to improve trade and increase export volumes.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Ukraine received over €150m million from Denmark, France and Lithuania. Denmark provided €111m to Kyiv, France – €29m . And another €10m was allocated by Lithuania to strengthen Ukrainian security and defense. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports that these funds will be directed to the production of missiles, deepstrike drones and artillery installations.
From the EU, Kharkiv received 6 cogeneration plants for energy supply of critical infrastructure. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, with the support of the governments of Norway, Sweden and the European Union, handed over equipment that should ensure stable water supply, heating and drainage for about 800,000 residents and 47 hospitals of Kharkiv.
