It has been the 1221 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 28 June, there were 71 combat clashes along the entire frontline.

The invaders do not stop striking at border settlements. The settlements of Myropilske, Pokrovka, Ulanove, Slavhorod, Petrushivka, Studenok, Hirky, Bratenytsia and Kucherivka in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery fire.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were six combat clashes, one of which is ongoing. In addition, the enemy launched six airstrikes, dropping eleven guided bombs, and also carried out 202 shelling of the positions of our troops and settlements, including six from multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, enemy units carried out six attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Vovchansk and Stroivka, two combat clashes are ongoing. Enemy aviation struck the settlement of Vilhuvatka with GABs.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the vicinity of Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka and Zelenyi Hai four times, two clashes are ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the aggressor attacked ten times in the vicinity of the settlements of Nadiia, Novoiehorivka, Ridkodub, Zelena Dolyna, Yampolivka, Torske and towards Serebrianka and Hryhorivka. Two clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the enemy tried to advance five times near Hryhorivka – all the enemy’s attempts to advance to the positions of Ukrainian units were repelled.

Towards Kramatorsk, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attempts to advance towards Bila Hora.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops four times in the vicinity of Kurdiumivka, Toretsk, Leonidivka and towards Yablunivka. Currently, one battle is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian defenders’ positions twenty-nine times in the vicinity of the settlements of Popiv Yar, Myrne, Myroliubivka, Malynivka, Kopteve, Promin, Lysivka, Udachne, Kotliarivka, Horikhove, and Oleksiivka. Battles are ongoing in three locations.

Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Yalta, Zaporizhzhia, Dniproenerhiia, and Shevchenko. Two more clashes are ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, Zaliznychne and Bilohiria were hit by unguided air missiles.

Towards Orikhiv, Kamianske and Orikhiv were hit by the invaders’ aircraft.

Towards Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Kherson, there were no clashes.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reports that russia attacked the oblast with 312 UAVs of various modifications. There were 12 airstrikes.

Yuriy Ignat, Head of the communications department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports that during the morning attack on Dnipro, russia launched the Grom-E1 hybrid bomb missile for the first time.  

 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

On the eve of the Constitution Day of Ukraine, activists of the Yellow Ribbon resistance movement held a rally in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. In the cities, they photographed leaflets with the text of the first article of the basic law “Ukraine is sovereign and independent”.

 

Frontline

 

Towards Southern Sloboda, russian units attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Vovchansk and Stroivka, two battles are ongoing. According to the General Staff, russian aviation struck Vilhuvatka with GABs.

 

Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the vicinity of Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka and Zelenyi Hai four times, two clashes are ongoing.

 

Towards Lyman, the russian army attacked 10 times, in particular, near Hryhorivka.

 

There were 153 clashes. Towards Southern Sloboda, the aggressor attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders seven times in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Fiholivka and towards Petro-Ivanivka and Dovhenke. Towards Kupiansk, there were five attacks. Ukrainian defenders stopped the enemy’s assault actions in the vicinity of Pishchane, Kindrashivka and near Novoplatonivka and Petropavlivka.

 

Shelling

 

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 3 settlements of the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes. 3 people were injured as a result of the shelling. In the city of Chuhuiv, men aged 53, 36 and 30 were injured. The enemy attacked the Industrial District of Kharkiv with a UAV.

 

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in the Kharkiv region:

▪️1 missile (type to be determined);

▪️4 GABs;

▪️1 UAV of the Shahed type;

▪️1 Lancet type UAV;

▪️1 Chornytsia type UAV;

▪️1 fpv drone.

 

Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️2 cars were damaged in Kharkiv;

▪️3 private houses and 3 emergency medical vehicles were damaged in Kupyansk;

▪️A civilian enterprise was damaged in Chuhuiv;

▪️A roadside bumper was damaged in Izyum region (Sukha Kamianka village).

 

Other

 

Two children were injured in an explosion in the village of Stavyshche, Shevchenko community. Previously, an unknown object that the boys found near the yard detonated. The injured are 12 and 15 years old. The younger boy received an open craniocerebral injury, a 15-year-old teenager received a burn on his hand. Both are hospitalized.

 

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the russian army is pressing towards Novopavlivka. Over the past day, russian troops stormed Ukrainian positions near Shevchenko and Fedorivka 19 times, and also attackednear Yalta, Zaporizhzhia, Komar, Mirne and Perestroika.

 

The largest number of battles during the previous day was towardsf Pokrovsk – 56 attacks, 17 assaults were carried out towards Lyman and Toretsk.

 

Shelling

 

After midnight, russia struck Pokrovsk – one person was wounded.

 

Over the past day, there were 2,802 enemy shelling along the front line and residential sector, the police reported.

 

11 settlements were under attack: the cities of Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Rodynske, the villages of Vesela Hora, Volodymyrivka, Hryshyne, Zapovedne, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Kamianka, and Stepanivka.

 

37 civilian objects were destroyed, including 25 residential buildings.

 

russians attacked Kostiantynivka with Smerch MLRS and drones – they killed a civilian, damaged 12 private homes and an administrative building.

 

One person was killed and one was wounded in Ivano-Pol, which the enemy hit with Smerch MLRSs. Three private houses were damaged.

 

The occupiers covered Lyman with Grad MLRSs, damaged a private house, an outbuilding and a garage. Vesela Hora in Kramatorsk district was shelled with Tornado-S MLRSs and Geran-2 UAVs – 2 private homes, a non-residential building and a car were damaged.

 

In Illinivka, a russian drone damaged a private house and a car. In Stepanivka, Illinivka community, 4 private houses were damaged as a result of shelling.

 

A private house was damaged in Rodynske. The occupiers attacked villages in Pokrovsk region with drones: a private house was damaged in Hryshyne, a culture house in Zapovedne, and a civilian car in Kamianets-Podilskyi.

 

Other

 

The Ukrainian State Intelligence Service reports that Ukrainian intelligence officers congratulated the occupiers in Donetsk oblast on the Constitution Day of Ukraine by dropping informational greeting cards from heavy drones.

 

Petro Andryuschenko, Head of the Center for the Study of the Occupation, says that temporarily occupied Mariupol may be left without drinking water in a year due to the shallowing of the Starokrym reservoir, the water reserves of which have decreased by two-thirds.

 

An agent of the ATES” movement set fire to a relay cabinet near the temporarily occupied Yasynuvata in Donetsk oblast on a section of the railway that the occupiers use for military logistics. The sabotage delayed the delivery of a train with fuel for the Russian army.

 

Luhansk oblast

 

The RMA reported that there were 20 artillery attacks. They directed 51 drones towards the Ukrainian defender. Nine enemy FPV drones also attempted to carry out combat missions. Towards Lyman, the enemy launched assault operations near nine settlements. In Luhansk oblast, in the vicinity of ​​Hrekivka.

 

The RMA reported that Luhansk engineers have developed a mobile television and radio broadcasting station that can cover broadcasting within a radius of up to 30 kilometers. The complex was created by specialists from the Innovation and Information Center, who in 2017 and 2021, respectively, designed and built the Bakhmutivka and Komyshuvakha television towers in the Luhansk region.

 

In Dovzhansk, occupied since 2014, russian security forces have intensified checks on the population. This week, those who intended to leave this city or return there were subject to a thorough inspection. Special attention was paid to men. They checked Russian passports, vehicle documents, and military registration.

 

Due to the lack of doctors in Severskodonetsk, local residents are forced to violate the curfew established by the occupiers, risking being detained. But the only way to get an appointment is to get in line in the middle of the night and stand for several hours with a fever, bleeding, or a fracture. Such lines are becoming the norm and are forming in the entrances of nearby high-rise buildings. Due to the lack of mobile communication in the city, it is impossible to call an ambulance.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, together with his wife Olena Zelenska and the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, honored the memory of Ukrainian defenders. Andrzej Duda arrived in Kyiv on June 28. This is his farewell visit, as he is leaving office in August. Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the Polish President the Order of Liberty for his contributions to strengthening Ukrainian-Polish international cooperation and for his support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In the center of Kyiv, relatives of missing soldiers from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi held a rally to draw attention to the issue of searching for servicemen who went missing after completing combat missions. Families of soldiers from other brigades also joined the demonstration. The participants placed a table, chairs, and a tea set in the middle of Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) to symbolize that those missing in action are not forgotten — they are loved and awaited at home.

Rescuers in the Bilotserkivskyi district helped bring a female raccoon down from a tree. The animal, frightened by Russian shelling on June 23, had escaped from a local zoo located within the Oleksandriia State Dendrological Park and climbed high up a tree seeking refuge. She was unable to come down on her own. The terrified animal, injured in the paw, was safely rescued by the emergency workers using a fire truck ladder.

The city of Slavutych received two cogeneration units as part of an international technical assistance project from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). These units can simultaneously produce both thermal and electrical energy from a single fuel source, ensuring increased energy efficiency and reliability of the city’s heating system.

Zhytomyr oblast

In nine communities of the Zhytomyr region, a Community Action Day titled “Psychological Practices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs” was held. The aim of the event was to establish close cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the MIA system and organizations and institutions that provide mental health services.

The event program included psychoeducational activities, an introduction to the “Psychological Practices Point” project, and practical sessions on behavior in crisis situations.

Sumy oblast

The 21st separate mechanized brigade reports that in Sumy oblast, 10 servicemen from the 810th Marine Brigade of the russian Black Sea Fleet, stationed in Sevastopol, were taken prisoner during the battle. Among the prisoners are those who were forced to sign a contract in prison, threatening to extend the term for “treason to the Motherland”, as well as those who only 10-12 days ago served in the occupied Crimea, and then were thrown into the assault.

In Bilopillia community on June 27, a man born in 2000 was injured as a result of an attack by a russian UAV.

During the day, from the morning of June 27 to the morning of June 28, Russian troops carried out more than 90 attacks on 40 settlements in 15 territorial communities of the region. The largest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used the dropping of VOG from UAVs (30 strikes) and guided aerial bombs (up to 10 strikes) on the territory of Sumy region, and also carried out strikes with FPV drones and UAVs.

Private residential buildings were damaged in Burynska and Stepanivska communities, 3 apartment buildings in Seredino-Buda community.

The RMA reported that local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations from border communities, evacuated 41 people.

Mykhailo Melnyk, Head of Sumy RMA, reports that more than 29 thousand people have left eight communities of Sumy oblast, including 2,560 children. These are Bilopollia, Vorozhba, Krasnopoliaa, Mykolaivska, Myropilia, Yunakivka, Khotyn, and Richkova communities. According to him, about 6 thousand people remain to be evacuated, of which about 100 are children.

Oleg Hrygorov, Head of Sumy RMA, informs that emergency medical care in the region, which works in the border area, will receive an additional UAH 250 thousand per month for development and improvement of working conditions. These funds can be used to strengthen the material and technical base, create better working conditions for teams and ensure a more efficient response to calls.

Sumy oblast received 30 buses from KOICA and UNOPS. Transport will be transferred to 15 communities to meet the needs of residents of settlements that are under constant threat of shelling. The buses were purchased with financial support from the Government of the Republic of Korea. The project is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv border detachment reported that russian troops attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novgorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy fired mortar shells (12 explosions), struck with FPV drones (19 explosions), dropped explosive devices from UAVs (20 explosions). 16 settlements were under enemy fire, the .

In Novhorod-Siverskyi community, a private house in Gremiach was damaged as a result of an explosive device dropped from a UAV. In Semenivka community, a private house in the village of Chornozem was damaged as a result of FPV drone strikes.

Chernihiv Region State Emergency Service reported that in the village of Oleksandrivka, Koriukiv region, an 11-year-old boy was injured on the afternoon of June 28. He picked up an unknown object, which exploded in his hands. The child was hospitalized.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk oblast council, says that in the evening and in the morning, the occupiers continued to attack Nikopol region. They launched drones and fired artillery. They targeted the regional center, Pokrovske, Marhanets and Myrove communities. A fire broke out, a private enterprise and a private home were damaged.

A month after his release from russian captivity, serviceman Vitalii Petrenko was met in Dolynska, Kirovohrad oblast. The soldier was captured on October 20, 2023, in Bakhmut region of Donetsk oblast.

Poltava oblast

President Volodymyr Zelensky presented the honorary For Courage and Bravery award to the 17th Poltava Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. The award ceremony took place on Constitution Day of Ukraine in Kyiv on June 28.

Cherkasy oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled in the village of Tovmach, Shpolian region, to serviceman Yurii Mikhalchenko, who was killed in the war. The defender fell on July 13, 2024 near Toretsk, Donetsk oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to analysts from the Institute for the Study of War, russian forces advanced near Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Geolocated footage published on 27 June indicates that russian troops recently progressed along the E-105 highway (Vasylivka–Kamianske) toward the centre of Kamianske. Analysts noted, based on geolocation data, that russian troops advanced southeast of Mala Tokmachka.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that a 16-year-old girl was injured by a russian FPV drone strike on one of the villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 3 russian assaults near Kamianske were repelled by Ukrainian Defence Forces on Orikhiv region, while no active assault operations were recorded on Huliaipole region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that a woman was injured in Polohy region due to russian shelling on 27 June.

On 27 June, 459 attacks were carried out by russian forces across 12 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. This included 276 drones, mostly FPV, targeting Stepnohirsk, Lobkove, Kamianske, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka and Charivne.

Mykolaiv oblast

As reported by Mykolaiv RMA, on 27 June, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by artillery and carried out 11 FPV drone strikes.

In Solonchaky, one of the drone strikes damaged an outbuilding and ignited a fire.

In Dmytrivka, a private house and a truck were damaged and dry grass caught fire. There were no injuries reported in either incident.

Odesa oblast

Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA, informed that on the night of 28 June, civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings and cars, was damaged in Odesa and surrounding areas due to a russian drone attack. Emergency workers recovered the bodies of a married couple killed when a russian drone struck their apartment. 17 people suffered injuries and acute stress reactions, including 3 boys aged 3, 7 and 14. The drone strike caused a fire on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors of a 21-story residential building. Several people were trapped inside.

According to the Air Command South, air defence forces destroyed 21 drones over Odesa oblast during the night attack.

Kherson oblast

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that as of 6pm on 28 June, 7 people were injured due to russian attacks in the oblast. Criminal proceedings have been opened for violations of the laws and customs of war.

According to the City Military Administration, in Korabelnyi district of Kherson, a russian drone struck a vehicle, injuring a man and a woman with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.

Around noon, a russian drone dropped explosives on a minivan in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson, injuring a 66-year-old man who suffered a blast injury, traumatic brain injury, concussion and shrapnel wounds to his chest, forearm and thigh. He remains hospitalised in serious condition.

Earlier in the day, a 38-year-old man was injured by a russian drone in Korabelnyi district, sustaining a blast injury and shrapnel wound to the shoulder.

In Darivka, a drone hit a vehicle, injuring a 59-year-old man with a traumatic brain injury, concussion and shrapnel wound to the thigh.

Referring to the State Emergency Service, 8 fires broke out in Kherson oblast on 27 June due to russian attacks, burning houses, outbuildings, cars, wheat fields and dry grass. All were extinguished despite the threat of renewed shelling.

The CMA informed that 2 educational institutions were damaged in Kherson during evening attacks – one in the city centre, the other in Korabelnyi district.

The RMA reported that in Molodizhne, russian troops dropped explosives from a drone onto a vehicle, injuring a 46-year-old man. He sought medical help the next day and was diagnosed with a blast injury and concussion. He has been hospitalised.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 27 June, russian forces shelled 42 settlements across Kherson oblast. The attacks damaged gas pipelines, a high-rise building, 26 private houses, garages and vehicles. 1 person was killed and 3 injured.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Another veteran business fair “I could do – you can too!” was held in Lutsk. Visitors had the opportunity to support Ukrainian veteran manufacturers by getting acquainted with the various products they presented.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 40 packages with necessary things for children under 2 years old and 60 loaves of bread. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (1,750 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Spletinnia Kosice, Valentyn Stefano and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade received 10 DJI Matrice 4T quadcopters; 5 sets of products and electronic warfare equipment Shelter 6A worth over UAH 2.7m. It was purchased with funds from the regional budget as part of programs to support military formations in the Carpathian region.

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that with the support of the Dutch government, the Children’s Medicine Center in Lviv will equip neurosurgery and neurooncology departments, a multidisciplinary operating room, and a research space.

Partners from Poland – Sebastian Bursakowski-Irzykowski and the team, with the support of the Andrii Kwiatkowski CF, provided humanitarian aid. The aid was sent to the East to defenders.

The “Shkidnytsia Summer-2025” charity event was held in Skhidnytsia, which managed to raise over UAH 12,000 for the needs of the Defenders. The leadership of Skhidnytsia Village Council handed over 2 Mavic 3T drones to the 4th Separate Detachment of the Special Purpose Center OMEGA of the National Guard of Ukraine. Zolochiv community sent 50 drones to the Kholodny Yar unit.

Rivne oblast

Over 400 participants from different communities of Rivne oblast took part in the Day of Community Action, which took place within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and dog handlers traveled together with consultants to Dubensk, Sarnensk, Bereznivsk, Hoshchansk and Zoriansk communities to reach more people with psychological support.

Ternopil oblast

41 defenders will receive one-time financial assistance for treatment and rehabilitation in the amount of UAH 15,000. This year, such support has already been provided to 170 fighters.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, awarded with the III degree Order of Merit to Roman Kashpur, veteran of the russian-Ukrainian war, athlete and motivator from Khmelnytskyi. Roman Kashpur volunteered to defend Ukraine at the age of 19. At the age of 22, during the fighting near Maryinka, he was blown up by a mine and lost part of his leg. After prosthetics, he continued his active life: he won the Hero Games, set a Ukrainian record by pulling a 16-tonnes An-26 military aircraft, and even defended the country on a prosthesis after a full-scale invasion. Today, Roman is engaged in volunteer activities and popularizes adaptive sports. In 2025, he became the first Ukrainian in parasport to overcome all six marathons of the World Marathon Majors series.

Chernivtsi oblast

In the center of Sadhora, relatives of prisoners of war and missing soldiers took to the streets for a peaceful rally in support of their relatives and acquaintances. Most of them have no news about the fate of their sons, husbands, or brothers.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Great Britain announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth £70m. The funds for it came from the interest that Britain received from frozen russian assets. For the first time, these funds have been used for the direct purchase of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. What is included in the package: 350 modernized British ASRAAM anti-aircraft missiles, converted to launch from the ground in just 3 months and 5 new Raven launchers, a total of 13.

Norway has joined the new EU sanctions package against russia. The restrictions include 189 “shadow fleet” vessels that russia uses to circumvent sanctions, as well as 17 individuals and 58 legal entities that supply the russian military complex with drones, weapons, ammunition, military equipment, critical components or logistical support.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that the 18th package of sanctions by the European Union will be tough and painful for russia.
