On 20 December, there were 146 combat clashes along the entire front line.
The invaders continue to use aviation, in particular, dropping anti-aircraft missiles, and carry out attacks in all directions of the combat line. The defense forces are holding the lines and taking measures to prevent a breakthrough of the defense.
The invaders did not stop using artillery on the territories of the border regions bordering the russian federation. Velyka Pysarivka, Oleksandrivka, Vyntorivka, Yastrubshchyna in Sumy oblast; Tymofiivka in the Kharkiv region; Kliusy in Chernihiv oblast were under enemy fire.
Towards Kupiansk, five assault actions of the invaders were stopped near Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Zahryzove and Lozova in the direction; three more combat clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Lyman, the enemy is attacking in the viccinity of Yampolivka, Terny, Ivanivka, Torske, Hryhorivka, and Serebrianka Forest. In total, there were 11 clashes, four of which are still ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attempts to advance near the settlement of Chasiv Yar, and three clashes are currently ongoing.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy, with the support of aviation, four times in vain attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of the settlements of Toretsk and Leonidivka. The enemy also dropped an aerial bomb near Kostiantynivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 31 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Dachenske, Vovkove, Pishchane, Novovasylivka, Novoielizavetivka, Novooleksiivka and Ukrainka, five clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Kurakhove, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 clashes in the vicinity of the settlements of Sontsivka, Stari Terny, Andriivka, Kurakhove, Dachne, Dalne, Kostiantynopolske, and Kostiantynopol. Sixteen enemy assaults were repelled, and three more clashes are ongoing.
Towards Vremivka, 13 enemy assaults were stopped near Uspenivka, Dalne, Yantarne, Rozlyv, Bohatyr, Velyka Novoselka, Makarivka, Novoselka, Novopol and Novodarivka, three more assaults are continuing to this day.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one enemy attempt to advance near Mala Tokmachka.
Towards Kherson, in the vicinity of Kozatskyi Island, the enemy twice unsuccessfully stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders today.
Forty combat clashes took place in Kursk oblast, in addition, the enemy launched one missile strike and 260 artillery shells.
Towards Kharkiv, Siversk and Huliaipole, the enemy did not conduct any active operations.
Oleksandr Prokudin, head of Kherson regional military administration, reports that within an hour, russia massively attacked Kherson, about 1,000 shells fell. 2 people were killed, 11 more were injured of varying severity.
Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Minister of Justice, says that Ukraine has suffered the largest cyberattack on state registers.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Yesterday at 8:30pm, Cheremushne village of Zmiiv community, Chuhuiv region was under russian attack. A Shahed fell and exploded in the yard of a private house. The private household was damaged. A woman of 46 years old was injured.
At 3:15pm, Dvorichna village of Kupiansk region was under attack. A 54-year-old woman suffered as a result of the shelling.
At 3:14pm, Shevchenkove was hit. The shelling of Iskander-M damaged 12 private houses, the building of Nova Poshta, 3 outbuildings. 3 people were injured. Two women of 65 and 67 years old and a 33-year-old man were killed.
At 4:15pm, Orishanka village of Zolochiv community, Bohodukhiv region, was attacked. The shelling targeted the forest near Orishanka, there were no injuries or destructions.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions, but actively used aviation.
Towards Kupiansk, there were 10 enemy attacks. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Lozova, Zahryzove and Kolisnykivka.
As a result of intensified evacuation measures, 32 people were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova directions.
Donetsk oblast
Oleksandr Nevidomyi, Head of the 46th Brigade’s communications department, reported that towards Kurakhove, heavy fighting continues on the outskirts of Kurakhove and in downtown. The situation is difficult but under control. The occupiers are using attack drones and UAVs with drops, FPVs with fibre optics, they do not use special equipment, they move around on motorcycles and cars, there is no heavy equipment.
At 7am, russian troops fired artillery at Lyman.
According to Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office, a 51-year-old resident of the city sustained injuries on the territory of a garage cooperative. He was taken to hospital with mine-blast trauma, head and chest wounds.
At 4:40am, russian troops attacked Kostiantynivka.
A multi-storey building was hit by a munition, probably a FAB-250 from the UMPK. Rescuers unblocked the body of a 75-year-old woman from the rubble of the destroyed building.
Three more men were injured in Pokrovsk as a result of russian attacks. They were diagnosed with head injuries, cut wounds to the body, shrapnel wounds to the shoulder and thigh.
Yesterday police documented 3,048 hostile attacks.
9 settlements were under fire.
50 civilian objects were damaged, including 31 residential buildings.
Two people died in the village of Shevchenko as a result of an enemy strike.
Russians attacked Katerynivka with a drone, killing a civilian and injuring another. A car was damaged.
In Siversk, one person was killed and another injured as a result of artillery shelling. Five private houses were destroyed.
The invaders dropped two FAB-250 bombs on Mykolaivka, wounding a civilian and damaging 13 private houses.
Pokrovsk was under artillery attack and a drone strike, damaging three apartment buildings.
In Kramatorsk, the enemy launched two FAB-250 bombs, destroying 7 apartment buildings and a business.
The Coordination Centre reported that the bodies of 503 fallen soldiers have been returned to Ukraine. Most of the killed were from Donetsk oblast.
Luhansk oblast
Major repairs of apartment buildings in the so-called “lpr” will be carried out at the expense of the owners. By 2025, the occupation “ministry of construction and housing and communal services” will develop a regulatory framework for the introduction of a capital repair fund. In particular, the minimum cost of the overhaul tariff will be determined. Residents of high-rise buildings will have to pay these funds on a monthly basis in addition to the “rent”. When the required amount is accumulated, the possibility of starting the work will be considered.
Residents of the cities of the occupied Luhansk oblast close to the frontline cannot use mobile phones because they have been switched off by the russians. They are forced to travel 30-50km away from their homes to call their families or take care of business.
From now on, one of the operators has introduced a per-minute tariff for residents of Lysychansk, Siverskodonetsk, Rubizhne and Kreminna.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that Kyiv oblast was attacked by enemy UAVs and missiles at night and in the morning. As a result of the falling debris, warehouses in the Boryspil district of Kyiv caught fire over an area of almost 15,000 m². As of 4am, the fire was contained. The debris also damaged 8 private houses in three districts, two cars and a shop. No one was injured in the fire.
The State Emergency Service of Kyiv oblast reported that by 15:45, a fire in a warehouse in Boryspil district, caused by an enemy drone attack, had been extinguished. No one was killed or injured. The fire was extinguished using 24 vehicles and 72 people.

KCMA reported that at around 07:00 am, the russian armed forces launched a combined missile attack on Kyiv. As a result, debris fell in several districts of the city. The missile attack killed one person, wounded 13, and hospitalised 5. According to the Air Force, five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were fired at Kyiv. All russian missiles were shot down.
A fire broke out in a non-residential building in the Solomyanka district of the capital as a result of falling debris. The fire was extinguished. In Shevchenko district, a fire broke out in a non-residential building.
In Holosiivskyi district, an office building, road surface and a gas pipe were damaged with subsequent depressurisation; 5 cars caught fire. At another address, the facade of an office building was damaged, followed by a fire on the roof, and the fifteenth floor was destroyed. The city has set up a headquarters where residents of the affected buildings can seek help.


Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that a city heating pipeline in the centre of Kyiv was damaged as a result of the russian attack: 630 residential buildings, 16 medical institutions, 17 schools and 13 kindergartens in the city were left without heat. As of 19.00, experts had localised the damage to the pipelines and Kyivteploenerho promptly restored heat supply to over 600 buildings. As of now, 18 residential buildings, a hospital and 13 departmental buildings remain without heating and hot water supply.
Embassies of 6 countries were damaged in Kyiv as a result of the russian attack. These are the diplomatic missions of Portugal, Argentina, Albania, Montenegro, Palestine and North Macedonia, which are located in the same building. Windows, doors and ceilings were damaged. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that there were no injured ones.
The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications reported that the Roman Catholic Church of St Nicholas, an architectural monument of national importance in Ukraine built in 1909, was damaged in the centre of the capital as a result of the fall of rocket fragments. The church’s facade and central stained-glass window in the shape of a Gothic rose were damaged, as well as the concrete frame, external and internal glazing. The blast wave also destroyed the window frames of the stairwells leading to the spires known as the Cruciferae.


Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko announced that the units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have received thirty more DJI Mavic quadcopters from the community of the capital. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the capital has donated 85 new Volkswagen minibuses, dozens of trucks, special vehicles, buses, as well as drones of various types and personal protective equipment to the SBGS.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr City Council reported that on 19 December, the funeral of soldier Serhii Mahdebur was held in Zhytomyr. The defender served in one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was heroically killed on 1 October 2022 while performing a combat mission. Only 2 years and two months later, the Hero on the shield returned to his hometown, where his family could pay their final respects.
The fifth office of the Made in Ukraine platform was opened in Zhytomyr oblast. This new business support platform has started its work in Malyn. It is located at the Korosten branch of Zhytomyr Regional Employment Centre.
Sumy oblast
Shostka Mayor Mykola Noha reported that on 20 December, russian forces struck Shostka community in Sumy oblast. The russians carried out an airstrike, reportedly with a Shahed drone, targeting Voronizh and Makivka of Shostka community. Several infrastructure facilities were destroyed, and three multi-storey residential buildings, along with other social infrastructure objects, were damaged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to Roman Bublik, Head of Chernechchyna village council, during the night of 20 December, the russian army launched several Shahed attack drones targeting Chernechchyna community in Sumy oblast. One of the drones struck a private household, causing damage to a car and shattering windows. Farm buildings were damaged by shrapnel, with the most significant impact on a barn, where part of the roof was destroyed. Additionally, private homes sustained damage, including broken windows in some areas.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that on the night of 20 December, russian army launched a missile strike on infrastructure in Sumy. The branch of Sumy Forestry Enterprise came under fire. The attack damaged a utility building, shattered windows in two cranes, and caused significant harm to a vital operational cable, rendering the equipment inoperative. A fire broke out at the facility due to the strike. No injuries or casualties were reported.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that volunteers have supplied FPV-drones to border guards in Sumy oblast. Fighters serving as part of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Sumy oblast, received a batch of drones donated by Blyskavka, the international charitable foundation.
Chernihiv oblast
On 19 Desember, the russian army attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:

Kozeletsk Settlement Council and the Ichnia City Council reported that on 19 and 20 December, Chernihiv oblast paid tribute to Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen Serhii Remez and Oleksii Moiseiev.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that late last night, the enemy launched a missile attack on Kryvyi Rih. Six residents were injured, including one child (men aged 49, 38 and 75 and women aged 30 and 82). Rescuers pulled out a 15-year-old girl and a man from the rubble. Psychologists helped 4 people.
A two-storey residential building was partially destroyed, 3 apartment buildings, a social institution, a hospital, 17 private houses, and 21 vehicles were damaged.
Also at night and in the early morning, the occupiers shelled Nikopol region with artillery and Grad systems. They targeted the region centre and the Marhanets community. An outbuilding was damaged.
On 20 December the enemy attacked Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih regions of the oblast. During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region about two and a half dozen times. They used kamikaze drones and artillery. They targeted the region centre, Myrove, Pokrovsk, Chervonohryhorivska and Marhanets communities.
Enterprises, infrastructure, 6 private houses, cars were damaged, an outbuilding was completely destroyed, and power lines and a gas pipeline were hit. The occupiers attacked the Zelenodolsk community in Kryvyi Rih region with kamikaze drones. Two private houses were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast
An action ‘The pain of waiting is stronger than the holiday’ was held in Vinnytsia in support of missing defenders of Ukraine. The event was organised by the relatives of the missing defenders from the 14th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine ‘Chervona Kalyna’.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, said that last night, mobile firing groups practised targeting Shaheds over the Kirovohrad oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that the Air Armed forces destroyed one attack UAV in Cherkasy oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
On 20 December, russian forces attacked Vasylivka region with drones. A woman was injured and is currently in the hospital in moderate condition. The russians used four FPV drones, one of which struck a car the woman was in.
Yesterday, the occupiers carried out 399 strikes on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched 4 airstrikes on Stepnohirsk and Piatykhatky. 240 UAVs of various modifications attacked Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Malynivka, Olhivske, and Novodarivka. Five MLRS strikes targeted Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, and Novodarivka. Additionally, 150 artillery strikes hit Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Malynivka, Olhivske, and Novodarivka. Fourteen reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure were received.
It is reported that the occupying forces attempted one assault on the Defense Forces’ positions towards Orikhiv direction near Novodanilivka.
Today, 20 December, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) again lost connection to one of its power lines due to russian shelling. According to the Ministry of Energy, in November, the ZNPP lost access to a single power line three times due to russian shelling.
Mykolaiv oblast
On 19 December, the enemy attacked the city of Ochakiv four times with FPV drones. Around 6:00 p.m., the waters of Ochakiv community were shelled with mortars. No casualties were reported.
Additionally, on 19 December, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community twice with FPV drones and twice with artillery. As a result, two private houses, a utility building, and a store were damaged. No casualties were reported.
Residents of Mykolaiv oblast received compensation for damaged property amounting to over 381 million UAH under the eVidnovlennia program. Since the program began, 8,379 applications submitted for compensation for damaged property, and 1,575 applications for purchasing property. First payments totaling over 362 million UAH were made to 4,083 homeowners. 177 homeowners received the second payments amounting to over 19 million UAH, and 1,050 homeowners received compensation through housing purchase certificates worth over 1.3 billion UAH.
Volunteer Dmytro delivers food for cats and dogs to the war-torn village of Blahodatne in Mykolaiv oblast. Like the others in the settlement, his family home has been destroyed. Dmytro notes that Blahodatne has many abandoned animals, with many households leaving behind multiple cats and dogs. As of 18 December, eight families have returned to the village, each with about 15–20 cats. Dmytro highlights that the situation for providing aid is challenging because few organizations focus on Mykolaiv oblast. He estimates that about 98% of the work is done independently, including searching for support, as he lacks sponsors or donors.

Odesa oblast
As of 6:00 am, 13 enemy ships were present in the Black Sea. There were 6 enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, 3 of which are carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a combined volley capacity of up to 25 missiles.
During the past day, one vessel passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in the interest of russia, and 7 ships entered the Sea of Azov.
Kherson oblast
This morning, russian forces carried out a massive shelling of Kherson, resulting in 11 injuries and two fatalities. Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that two medical facilities in Kherson were damaged in the attack, with facades, premises, and windows shattered.
The shelling left up to 60,000 consumers in the region without electricity. Damage to critical infrastructure caused outages in the Shumenskyi, Zhytloselyshche, Tavriiskyi, and Ostriv neighborhoods of Kherson, as well as in the villages of Bilozerka and Komyshany.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., russian artillery struck Bilozsrka. An 82-year-old man who was indoors sustained an explosive injury, a concussion, and shrapnel wounds to the back of his head.
Yesterday, the enemy shelled Antonivka, Sadove, Stepanivka, Chornobaivka, Prydniprovske, Komyshany, Bilozerka, Oleksandrivka, Rozlyv, Tomyna Balka, Stanislav, Shyroka Balka, Kizomys, Beryslav, Novovorontsovka, Rakivka, Mylove, Dudchany, Novooleksandrivka, Zolota Balka, Vysoke, Kostyrka, Burhunka, Mykhailivka, Monastyrske, Molodizhne, Inzhenerne, Ivanivka, Novoraisk, Vesele, Virivka, Veletenske, Tomaryne, Tiahynka, Lvove, Poniativka, Kozatske, Tokarivka, Olhivka, Osokorivka, Ukrainka, Zmiivka, Zymivnyk, and Kherson city. As a result of these attacks, 12 apartment buildings, 7 private houses, utility structures, garages, and private vehicles were damaged. The assaults caused 1 fatality and 18 injuries.
Two residents of Beryslav sought medical assistance after being injured in a russian drone attack on 15 December. A 60-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman suffered explosive injuries and concussions. Additionally, a resident of Bilozerka wounded in last night’s shelling sought medical help. The 58-year-old woman sustained an explosive injury and a concussion. A man injured in the shelling of the Dniprovskyi district in Kherson on 18 December also required medical attention. The 52-year-old man was diagnosed with an explosive injury and burns to his arm and is currently under medical supervision.
In the morning, as russian forces shelled Kherson and Antonivka, a russian sabotage and reconnaissance group attempted to cross the Dnipro River near the Antonivka Bridge. According to Vladyslav Voloshyn, Spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, russian troops continue to attempt crossings in the Prydniprovske direction. Over the past day, russian forces made four unsuccessful attempts to cross the river.

Zakarpattia oblast
During the session, over 20 local residents and relatives of fallen Heroes were awarded new joint awards of the RMA and the Regional Council – the Honour and Valor of Zakarpattia badge. Among the awarded are soldiers who defended the Ukrainian state, as well as combat medics, chaplains, and border guards. Several badges were awarded posthumously. They were handed over to the relatives of the fallen Heroes.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that on the facade of the lyceum in the village Vovchynets, where Andrii Kupetskyi, Oleh Koiliak and Dmytro Havryliuk studied, opened commemorative plaques to the Heroes.
Lviv oblast
25 veterans and their family members will receive a grant to open or develop their business. Each of them will receive up to UAH 100,000 from Lviv City Council and up to $5,000 dollars from the Man in Need Czech humanitarian organization. Veterans and members of their families became the winners of the 2nd competition within the framework of the Courage for Business: Grant Support for Entrepreneurial Activities of Veterans and Their Family Members Program. A total of 35 applicants took part in the competition.
In the village of Boratyn, Brodivska community, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the school in memory of Ivan Prokaziuk, scout-machine gunner of the 93rd Brigade Kholodnyi Yar. He was killed while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast on 27 October 2022. The soldier was posthumously awarded the III degree For Courage Order.
Rivne oblast
Representatives of the Coordinating Humanitarian Center CF of the Eastern Region got acquainted with the activities of Rivne Sustainability Center. This Center is one of the best in Ukraine. High attendance (over 21,000 people in 9 months of work in one center alone) indicates the demand for such initiatives.
Ternopil oblast
From the balance sheet of Ternopil City Council, glass with a thickness of 4 mm in the amount of 104.4 sqm was transferred for a total cost of UAH 15,242. With the help of this material, damaged windows in common areas of buildings (staircases) are restored. In Ternopil residents, damaged windows have already been replaced with metal-plastic structures.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community joined the Zero Waste City program. The City Council held a press conference with Jack McKibban, Head of implementation in Zero Waste Europe and Sofia-Yulia Sydorenko, Head of the Ukrainian Zero Waste Alliance public union. The Zero Waste City program is aimed at helping cities and communities to transition to a system whose key principles are not wasting resources and preventing waste.
Khmelnytskyi City Council approved amendments to the budget for 2024. Property worth almost UAH 60m was once again handed over to military units.
Chernivtsi oblast
During the internship in Hungary, the delegation from Bukovyna visited the 1st Hungarian-Ukrainian school. The school is financed by Hungary and is under the auspices of the House of Ukrainian Heritage Foundation. 310 children from different oblasts of Ukraine study there.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Switzerland allocates almost €48m in winter aid to Ukraine. In this way, Switzerland will help Ukraine to cope with the challenges of winter, because due to the strengthening of russian attacks, a large part of the population of Ukraine suffers from interruptions in electricity and heat supply.
Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor, announced that the country sent another IRIS-T system to Ukraine.
Denmark allocated over €281m to strengthen Ukrainian air defense. The new aid package includes a financial contribution to strengthening Ukrainian air defense and the functioning of F-16 fighters. The country’s Defense Ministry also reminded that together with Sweden, 40 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles will be handed over to Ukraine.
During a working visit to Belgium, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with leaders, heads of government and other representatives of European countries. The key topic was the issue of strengthening Ukraine and strengthening its position both at the front and in diplomacy.
